NEW YORK - A New York Police Department spokesman says the actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan residence.
According to TMZ.com, Ledger, 28, was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 p.m. ET Tuesday.
The actor has a two-year-old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. Ledger was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film "The Dark Knight." He received an Academy Award nomination for his work in "Brokeback Mountain."

Holy ****.
Guess I'll ask the obvious: Did they finish filming all the Batman stuff?
-
Whoa. Sad news indeed.
-
Whoa! Didn't see that coming...
-
The place was strewn with pills, recent split up with the wife - screams suicide.
-
That's what I'm gathering too after reading a bit more...
-
OH ****! I think the filming for BM wrapped, but I know he was signed to be in the 3rd movie also, which is going to be about the trial of the Joker! :o
-
Yeah, the new Batman is in post production.
-
CNN is reporting that he was found in Mary Kate Olson's apartment, that the police stated they were over the counter meds. They are also saying that Ledger himself said that he was having trouble sleeping and was taking medication. Ledger said he was extremely stressed out over the role of the Joker and how dark it was and that he felt it was overwhelming him. I don't know if they are referring to interviews or heresay.
-
so clearly Lance Armstrong was involved, then.
-
Wow, this was very unexpected. Sad.
-
Dam that was one that was totally unexpected.
My thoughts go out to his family.
Such a waste................
-
Wow.
-
This sucks. I just heard about it on the way home from work. I'm pretty shocked.
E...
-
Man that sucks, he had such a promising career ahead of him. I feel really bad for his daughter.
My friend told me he read that Dark Knight is going to be delayed I have yet to find that anywhere myself though, so if anyone can confirm that, I'd appreciate it.

Holy ****! That's a loss.

Wow, shocking news. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was Hilton, Spears, Lohan or any of their ilk, but this death really caught me off guard. I was apprehensive about him playing the Joker, but from what I've seen so far, Ledger nailed the part. And the worst part is there is now a 2 year old girl with no father.
RIP Heath.

I was very suprised by the news. I was in session with a client and i got a text from my girlfriend about it. Its really too bad, i really liked him as an actor. Perhaps evil of me, but i did say to myself, i hope they finished filming Batman.
-
I hope they finished filming too. Not so much for the sake of the movie, but for his sake too; if that makes sense.
And very sorry to hear, especially for his daughter.
-
As Chris mentioned earlier, The Dark Knight is in post production & Heath's post work was complete.
Regarding Heath's work as The Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35367)

My friend told me about this earlier and I was like "Haha, very funny" and waited for the punchline. :(
RIP.

Holy ****.

It's confirmed, he did finish the filming.
-
I feel sorry for his daughter, not him.
Drug overdose.... That's his fault. Did he have any drug problems before?
-
It's a shame that he passed away. It's a bigger shame that the media shamefully rushed to the story that he had a drug problem, when there was no evidence of one like other celebreties out there...and the facts seem to point to an accidental death to mixing perscription drugs.
I've been eagerly awaiting the release of The Dark Knight and think the film will be a nice tribute to his acting work.

Ledger's death caused by accidental overdose (http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/02/06/heath.ledger/index.html#cnnSTCText)
-
In a statement released through Ledger's publicist, Ledger's father, Kim, said Wednesday: "While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath's accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage."
Any bets as to how long it takes the family to cheapen his death by bringing up a law suit against the doctor(s) that prescribed the medications?
