Title: My uncle just died....
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on August 14, 2003, 07:07 PM
Or at least that's what my grandmother would have had us thinking...

I heard a pounding on the door, sounded like someone trying to break in it was so loud. Went to the door, by the time I got there, grandma was running to the neighbors house already. She doesn't run.

"Grandma! What's wrong?"

"Greg (my uncle) just called! He said "Hi, how are you" and started screaming, and then his phone cut out! OH GOD OH GOD! Get your mother!"

I went to get mom, she came out, grandma started yelling

"SOMETHING HAPPENED TO GREG! He was on the phone and he started screaming! Then the phone cut out"

"Maybe he was just yelling at some kids" (trying to calm her down)

"OH GOD NO! SOMETHING BAD HAS HAPPENED OH GOD NO!"

"Just calm down, we'll go check on him" (A family of firemen and EMTs, but nobody EVER calls 911)

"OH GOD HE WAS SCREAMING OH GOD!"

(Me) "Mom, I'll come with you" and I turn to my neighbor "Can you watch grandma"

(Neighbor) "Rene, why dont you stay here with me"

"OH GOD NO I HAVE TO CHECK MY BABY! SOMETHINGS WRONG OH GOD!"

She and mom hopped in the car, mom told me to call the chief of the fire department (like I said, nobody in this damn family calls 911). I called up the fire chief, explained what happened, and he dispatched the fire trucks, ambulance and contacted the police. As soon as I hang up, the phone rings:

"Adam? Is mom over there?" (Greg is on the phone)

"No, she's on her way out there, She said you started screaming and the phone cut out"

"What? No way. The phone cut out, but I was just talking to her"

"Well, you're going to have a lot of company in a few minutes"

Needless to say, he was PISSED off. He's in his mid-late 40's, but grandma still babies him and tries to treat him like he's 12. She obsesses over him and constantly worries, she's practically turned him into a hypocondriac, always thinking he's sick and needs to go to the hospital. Basically, she's nuts. This little instance really took the cake though.

So what was he screaming about before the phone cut out that made her think he was dying?

Very Intresting... I thought my Father was bad about that kind of thing,  I see though some people have it worse off then I do.  Although as I reading it I was haveing Flashbacks.   ;D

Thats precisely it, he wasn't screaming. Either she imagined it, heard his (or her) TV, or a line crossed over.

Im surprised we didnt have to take her to the hospital after this little ordeal

Kinda sounds like how my mother acts at times...

Random thoughts:

- Given Grandma's reaction, a more appropriate title for this thread might have been, "My uncle was brutally murdered by rabid baboons!"

- Grandma watches too much Matlock.

- Give your uncle my deepest sympathies on his impending demise.

- So does she SEE dead people, too?

- 9-1-1 is for civilians, not emergency professionals. Duh.

The funny part is, she refuses (despite him telling her otherwise) to believe that he didn't scream.

Thank goodness nothing did happen, for the obvious reason I dont want anything to happen to my uncle, but also because my mother would have been there alone with both of them, trying to help him and fend her off at the same time.
