Check out this Mando Mania reveal! It's a Deluxe TVC version of the Tusken Warrior including a newly tooled Massiff. There's no need to dig through your 2002 figures to find one now.

Classic Hasbro #doubledip
Going to cancel my single carded Warrior and get this instead... I should just cancel the single carded TBOBF Luke too since a dlx pack with him and backpack Grogu is likely coming too according to Jayson.

Classic Hasbro #doubledip
Was just going to say this... :(
EDIT: ... and Target exclusive, too. Double Whammy! (Feel like I'm on Press Your Luck)
-
Is this Tusken Warrior any different than the other single carded one? They look the same to me and I'd prefer to just cancel my initial preorder and buy this one once.
They should have just made a fifth generic Tusken out of the parts from the 4-pack and then I'd have bought both.
-
They look the same to me.
If Hasbro was smart they’d release the Massif separately and charge you $17-8 so you’re spending $35 instead of $28.

Don't worry, I'm sure they will double-dip this new Massif again with a generic "The Mandalorian" Tusken Raider - or even Mando himself from the Season 2 Mando/Tusken arc. ;)

I agree with the general sentiments - there should have been a more generic Tusken Raider in this set. The double dip would have been more acceptable in that instance. If anything the inclusion of the Tusken Warrior is going to hurt the basic figure sales. Still, I say that in the full knowledge of the Ahsoka (Corvus) basic figure being a similar situation, and that sold quite well.
This is supposed to go up for preorder tomorrow at 1:00 pm ET.

They probably just split the production into two buckets, one with the massif and one without and the profits are huge on either so they don’t care too much.
-
Today's going to suck around 1 pm....or closer to 2:30 pm knowing how Target operates.
-
Well it showed up 30 seconds after 1:00... after a minute of it saying sold out, I managed to order one.
-
It's live now! Good luck!
link. (https://www.target.com/p/-/A-87449953)
-
I was surprised how easy it was to order this time. I guess I should cancel the single-carded Tusken now.
-
It says sold out again. So it was there for what, 3 minutes?
Maybe it's bouncing in and out and will be back in a minute?!
-
If their track record is consistent they should repost this in a few months either for more pre-orders or when it finally hits US shores.
-
Definitely. Target seems to keep initial preorder quantities pretty low.
I only managed to order the Kenner colors Fett like five days ago.
-

I was stuck in a work meeting and missed the pre-order. I added the set to my favorites list in the Target app so I can keep an eye on it and watch for one of those magical windows where it is available again sometime in the next 6 months.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not too disappointed though. I have the basic figure preordered and there isn't a ton of extra value included here. If it comes back in stock or I see it in stores, I may eventually swap out the preorder of the basic figure for the deluxe version.
The Massiff looks good and is definitely an improvement, but I never disliked the Saga version, and I have a few of those around. I'm not sure the beast itself is worth an extra $10 to me. Put me in the camp of preferring another Tusken repaint/retool over the straight repack of the new Tusken Warrior. I wish they at least had included an addition unique accessory in the set.
-
Back in stock. I managed to grab one!
-
I attempted to order 2 when they came back into stock later in the afternoon. But the Target app only let me order one. Thankfully the friend I was trying to get one for was able to order his own.
I'm kind of shocked that Target limited these to 1 per customer. But in a way I think that's more fair for everyone.
-
I was able to order two. Looks like when they went back in stock later they limited it even more.
-
Got a weird email from Target this morning saying they’re holding my order for this but that I need to update my payment. When I go into the app, it’s got no release date listed, and is being paid for by my perfectly good Red Card. I guess I’ll have to call them.
Have any of guy guys seen this before?

No. That sounds like some kind of scam.
-
That was my first thought but the link takes me directly into the actual Target app.

Sometimes this happens if your card is going to expire between the time the order was placed and when they are going to ship the item. That usually only happens if it is not a Target Red Card through so this is weird on the surface. Calling Target CS and asking what's up is probably best.
-
Expiration is 07/27. 🤷♂️
-
Just got the same email but regarding my Kenner Deco Fett. I guess I’m going to call them
-
I got the same email and ended up changing my payment to a regular Visa. The Red Card discounts stayed in place though.
-
Weird. I called and they said they were having a problem with their payment processor and updated my card to the SAME card and told me it would work.
I'm tempted to just go in to update to my Visa though, I'd hate for that Kenner colors Fett to get canceled after all these months of waiting.
-
Weird. I called and they said they were having a problem with their payment processor
It sounds like the issue is happening at some Target retail locations also. Some stores are not taking debit cards and some stores can't take any credit card payments today (cash only). I bet it's a fun day for my IT friends over at Target HQ today.
-
Weird. Maybe this is all just a temporary thing and not a big deal. I was just assuming that they'd actually tried to ship my preorders today and it hadn't gone through... but if it's just a system glitch maybe those emails were all in error too.
-
Now today I got the same email for an Indiana Jones Adventure Series preorder, tried to put my Visa on it, and it said the expiration date is no good even though it is...
So obnoxious...
-
The saga continues. Despite calling and being told it was all a glitch, I woke up to an email this morning that my Tusken with Massiff order had been canceled.
I was able to immediately reorder it.
I also got a new email saying my Luke with Grogu needed updated payment info or would be canceled.
I’m expecting them to cancel my Kenner Colors Fett any time now, and I am not so confident I’ll be able to re-order that one. I’d hate to have to turn to eBay prices for an item they said would be price matched to the clearance price of $16.xx.
-

Is this happening to anyone else or is Rob just really unlucky?
-
No, but I just got a Red Card payment failure on Luke and Grogu so I had to change my payment type just like I did with the Tusken.
-
Is this happening to anyone else or is Rob just really unlucky?
There are days I am so pleased I don't have Rob's luck! ;)
-
:)
All of this still beats me, but they just canceled my Kenner Deco Fett, and just like the Tusken and Massiff I was able to immediately order it again using the same red card. It was out of stock this morning but maybe they canceled tons of them and it opened back up inventory for fresh preorders…
Waiting for the other two preorders I have to do the same thing and then maybe this little ordeal will be over.
-
Now they canceled my Adventure Series Map Room Indy and I reordered it.
Luke with Grogu deluxe set is the last one… any time now.
-
I checked my Target preorders (all on my Red Card), and haven't seen any peculiar activity. The preorders for the Deluxe Luke & Grogu and the Deluxe Tusken Warrior & Massiff are still in place.
-
Like clockwork, the Grogu / Luke order was canceled overnight and I was able to re-order it this morning. So I guess all is well, despite it being a weird headache for a week or so.
-
Received an e-mail from Target and I should be getting mine around August 23rd.
-
Received an e-mail from Target and I should be getting mine around August 23rd.
Ditto. I saw the email from Target and was worried at first after all Rob's hijinks last week. :P
-
Ha, I also got the email with the ship date, same for Kenner colors Fett. It’ll be nice to have all this idiocy taken care of.
-
Same with the email for the Tusken Raider and massiff -- release date of Aug 23.
For the colored Fett with white sleeves, another email stated the release date is Sept. 4th. Saw this at a Target last week but it was priced $24.99. I can wait.
I missed out on the Vintage deco Fett when it went on pre-order. Twice I had the good luck of coming across it when the ol' bounty hunter was available online again. Both times I had the bad luck of someone else snatching it from my cart. When is Target going to treat virtual carts more like real carts? Mark the item "pending" and give the person with the item in their cart some time -- say 30min -- to buy it.
Next time I'll just follow Rob and pick up his pre-orders as they're cancelled. :P
-
After all of my Red Card issues I got a shipping notice on this today.
-
I've been seeing more reports of people getting shipping notifications for this. Currently I have a projected delivery date of next Wednesday, but no tracking information. Hoping to get that soon.
-
Currently I have a projected delivery date of next Wednesday, but no tracking information.
Ditto. No shipping confirmation for me yet either.
-
I just got my shipping info. Between this and the Tusken troop pack, I've got a nice little Tusken crew. I'm going to need to rethink that display shelf.
-
...and now it's backordered. I personally blame Target for shifting their online order fulfillment from distribution centers to having it done from store location inventory.
-
Mine somehow did ship, despite having my original order canceled and having to reorder the other day. Did they ship newer orders first?!
-
I think it has more to do with regional fulfillment of online orders than when your order was placed. It's a big cost saving measure that both Target and Walmart have been undertaking - fulfill online orders from store inventory rather than have these huge fulfillment centers. Best Buy was doing this, too.
If you use inventory trackers like Brickseek or Popfindr you might find when a store gets a particular item in stock. But when you go there you can't find it, and it's very likely because that item never made it to the floor - it got pulled for online order fulfillment. Cutting the overhead of those distribution centers, along with shipping something 50 miles instead of 500 probably cut a lot of costs for Target.
The most likely situation is that stores in my region just don't have this yet.
-
Makes sense. I guess I wasn’t thinking about it like that.
-
Nicklab, the theory makes sense, but how does it jibe with the stories of Target stores not even receiving full cases of some of the products at times? I understand stuff like the nonassortment packed Boba Fetts and Indiana Jones figures arriving in stores and being shipped out to fulfill online orders, but when the regular TVC and Retro figures show up in batches of 3s from the repack box it doesn't add up.
Especially considering their has to be a warehouse/DC somewhere putting together those repack boxes to ship out to the Target stores.

I think they're separate issues.
As you mention the Target exclusive stuff is pre-orderable and is often fulfilled from a localish store. I'm not sure what their algorithm is for balancing pre-orders with store density with geographies. I know I've gotten pre-orders shipped both directly from stores and from distribution centers. You would think their logic for making this happen is well within their control.
I think the case assortment and partial case shipping stuff is still totally baffling. That has been a mess for years and I don't get any of it.

Actually, the online order fulfillment model has been having negative affects on things like TVC basic figures as well.
Lots of people have pointed to the TVC Lando as a pegwarmer. In the process of that whole dialogue not a lot of people were talking about the other figures in that case - the Emperor, IG-11 and Teebo. In many instances the stores were receiving that full case of figures, but only the Lando was turning up on the pegs. Why? Because the others had been pulled from the case to fulfill online orders. Lando being packed 3 per case didn't help things, either. And it's not a theory - I got this direct from a Hasbro retail store rep (when they still had those) during a conversation with him during the spring.
-

I didn't mean to suggest it was an unsourced idea, just questioning the logic behind the practice of opening cases at the DC to send to stores while opening cases as the stores to send to online customers. I don't see where the savings is there.
The "only Lando shows up on pegs" point further proves my point. Especially when we all know Hasbro offers full cases of specific figures in an attempt to facilitate fulfilling online orders so that the assortment cases can be used for in store stocking.

https://corporate.target.com/videos/stores-as-hubs-overview
Target had to find ways to get stuff into the online buyers hands faster in order to stop losing business to Amazon Prime 2-day shipping. The Store-as-hub model apparently saves them tons in that regard. Filling the orders closer to where the customer lives is apparently driving a lot of those savings. I am sure there is probably savings in the fact that the retail store workers ($13-15/hr average (https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Target-Team-Member-Salary-in-Minneapolis,MN)) are usually getting less than the warehouse workers ($18-20/hr average (https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Target-Warehouse-Salary-in-Minneapolis,MN)).
In the case of little plastic Star Wars figures, it may not be saving them very much at all. I'm sure there probably is a better, cheaper way to service the niche "old men buying little plastic men" community, but not cheaper enough to any degree that it makes sense upsetting their giant store-as-hub strategy and $110b in sales operation.

Thanks, that really does add a lot of context outside of the action figure niche, which of course is their focus as a company, and may at long last help to satisfy my curiosity about Hasbro's switch to solid case packs (vs assortments) in the TVC World-Building boxed figures, the Retro ROTJ wave, and the TVC exclusive figures.
I appreciate the education!

My Target Tusken set arrived today. Pretty sweet set!
-
I'll have to watch it again later when I'm away from the noise of the lunch crowd.
Target needs to reinstate ship-to-store.
As for the Tusken set, UPS says Saturday delivery. Target has it scheduled for Friday. If the tracking number to my house stays the same, this shipment bypassed the store distribution model. Well see.
-
Mine arrived today as well. The Massiff is excellent, it's nice to see a creature (even just a small one) back in the line again. I had forgotten to cancel my single-carded Tusken Warrior, so she's just a duplicate but she is still a very nice figure. If these ever go on clearance I am down for a few more to get a couple extra Massiffs, even though we are sure to see the Massiff in some other sets down the road.
The only thing I am not happy with is the giant red Target UPC barcode sticker that was slapped on the front of the box. >:(
-
Just got mine too. It's a perfectly nice basic figure with a Massiff accessory. Good thing it wasn't a $28 'deluxe' set.
-
Mine should arrive today. Does me a lot of good since I'm in Colorado for work.
If target is using the store as a hub model...they did not use that for my order. It shipped via UPS from Minneapolis and went to Florida.

Meanwhile, I got a "can you please approve a shipping delay?" email from Target for my pre-order. #CharlieBrown

-
Bummer Jeff. Seeing as mine was probably just down the street from you at some point.
-
I got the same email seeking approval for the shipping delay. It’s annoying, for sure. I want this Tusken Warrior as my opener - not the carded version.
-

Mine appeared to come from a distribution center in Indiana, which seems odd as I live in the Minneapolis area. You would think they would ship from a distribution center in Minneapolis...
-
Glad to have received a shipping notification for this last night. Surprisingly my order is being shipped from a distribution center in Texas, and not from a store location in the northeast. It seems that Target hasn't eliminated all of them just yet.
