This news dropped this morning on Gizmodo.
Ahsoka's E-Wing Is Flying Into Hasbro's Star Wars Toy Line (https://gizmodo.com/star-wars-vintage-collection-e-wing-ahsoka-hasbro-price-1851216654)
Hasbro is playing on FOMO with these details on the availability:
The Vintage Collection E-Wing will cost $100, and is set to release sometime in fall 2024. Preorders begin later today, February 7, at 1 p.m. ET on Hasbro Pulse, for a limited-time window closing at 11:59 p.m. ET on March 5. However, if you miss out, the E-Wing will also be available at Disney Stores and Disney Parks this fall. Click through to see plenty more pictures of the fighter and KE4-N4!
-
Oooh, nice. That looks pretty solid.
-
lol, I don’t even remember this thing. Was that what Shin was flying?
-
It's from the first episode of AHSOKA. The E-Wings are patrolling Lothal, and try to get Sabine to the ceremony. And in true Sabine fashion, she plays chicken with a parked E-Wing.
The article teased the possibility of a New Republic Pilot figure at some point.
-
$100 feels reasonable based on what we've seen for things these days. I'll probably pony up for one and just sneak it into my Rebel Hangar table next to Poe's X-Wing.
Jayson is also reporting that a New Republic E-Wing Pilot figure will be a separate carded release (https://twitter.com/yak_face/status/1755247290082619858). Nice to know that someone will be available to put in the cockpit.
-
Looks cool, love the droid (and it's a carded release). I don't understand why they could not announce this in the livestream.

I agree! Some surprises are welcome. Especially following the reactions to the last livestream. So many people were disappointed with the figure reveals because they already knew that each one was coming. Granted, that was compounded somewhat by the figures that were pipelined at the end of that livestream. But overall I think a surprise announcement is a cool thing.
I'm not usually one to take Hasbro's side on the way they do business, but it didn't go unnoticed how they're structuring the preorders for this E-Wing. A preorder window of under 1 month plays up on collector FOMO. And it's a big middle finger to the clearance vultures. It's funny, some people at the SW The Vintage Collection FB group were commenting about buying the E-Wing on clearance. What magical thinking led them to believe that Hasbro will put it on clearance before March 5th? And they seriously believe that the Disney Parks would put this on clearance before 2025?
Clearance vultures REALLY hurt the vehicle segment of Hasbro's Star Wars line. Any time an exclusive vehicle got announced there would be a chorus of people saying "I'll buy it on clearance". And they wonder why Target won't offer exclusive vehicles anymore? It seems like Hasbro is forcing an uncomfortable conversation with some of these people.

And bravo to Hasbro for doing so. Why should a group of people ruin it for the rest of us? The clearance vultures are a vocal group and now we are starting to hear them say the same things about figures in both scales: "Hey! If I can get these at Ross or Ollies down the road for 70+% off, I might as well wait." That's not going to help us get new figures in the line, nor is it going to instill confidence in the product if the retailers can't sell it in their stores.
It's funny, some people at the SW The Vintage Collection FB group were commenting about buying the E-Wing on clearance.
The group should actually encourage these people to wait for the E-wing to hit clearance and then laugh at them when they realized they've shot themselves in the foot.

Honestly I kind of miss the days when Hasbro would just announce a ton of stuff at Toy Fair, and then a ton more at Comic Con and that was that. It always felt like a huge event, and you always had big announcements to look forward to when your list started dwindling. Now it's like 2 things here and 3 things there and it's usually underwhelming - although a lot of that is probably because they put out so much underwhelming pieces...
-
Absolutely fantastic to see an E-Wing is finally coming to the Vintage 3.75” line! Good news on the pilot as well… Price point is to be expected. But I’m laughing at myself all the same as a few months ago, I bought a 3.75” scale 3D printed E-Wing kit (original non-cannon EU variant) and it almost seems like a moot point to build it now, lol. I think I’ll preorder a couple of these.

Hasbro just posted a video reveal of the E-Wing with Chris Reiff. He gives a tour of the vehicle, along with a pipeline reveal for the pilot - Lt. Callahan

Thanks for the Hasbro Pulse link! Ordered my two… A bit of a wait until the December 1 ship date, so I’ve got time to build my 3D printed kid after all

IMO, It's nice to have some surprises.
I totally get your point, and generally I agree. But they had a very lackluster livestream and then drop this information a few hours before the pro-order went live. Why not give us a little time to build hype?
That being said, I missed the opening of the window, and just now went in and put in my order. Went through just fine.
-
Looks great! This wouldn't have been at the top of my TVC vehicle list, but I've always liked the design and am very excited to get this in the line. I preordered two for now, not sure if the droid is carded, but also wanted a pair of the fighters. I'd have to think we are getting both pilots eventually.
-
not sure if the droid is carded
It is.
-
I was tempted to buy a second E-Wing in order to get the droid carded. But then I was just able to find the Mandalorian that's packed with the N-1 for sale on eBay for under $40. I'll probably do the same for this droid. And hopefully Bib Fortuna, as well.
While the preorder window from Hasbro Pulse is limited, it looks like Shop Disney will be carrying the E-Wing when it arrives in the fall. I'm just wondering if it's going to be in the parks before I receive my order? Because I have a trip to WDW planned for the fall.
-
I really do like this one... I expect we'll see it in more shows, and repainted several times over the next few years.
-
Yeah, this vehicle is sexy as ****. This is why I love when Filoniverse uses things from the EU, because we have a shot at getting them in the line. Really hoping we get a Headhunter at some point too.
I ordered a pair of these things. I hope Hasbro leans into this selling model, so maybe we can get some ships again. **** the clearance vultures.
-

Definitely. Even just looking at the main two shown in Ahsoka, the wing markings & blue accents are different (just like the Rebel X-Wings). Even if it only appeared in Ahsoka, there is already another on-screen version repaint that Hasbro can get out of it.
Captain Porter's E-Wing:
The markings are most noticeably different on the ends of the wings.
-
Surprising that Hasbro's coming out with it and happy they're expanding their portfolio. I considered getting a second to customize but i figure this ship will be re-released in all sorts of deco.
-
It's interesting that Chris made a point of highlighting the cargo space in the aft section of the E-Wing's fuselage. And he seems to be aware that we need some storage for accessories. It's nice to see it here, but I think that concept would be better explored with crates and containers in the deluxe figure / worldbuilding part of The Vintage Collection.

I took him explaining the storage space more as a function of him having explain the big hole he had to expose as a step in plugging the astromech into the socket. He also explained the front landing gear didn’t work as intended on the model while showing us how the rear gear retract. For once using the designers as video presenters made sense and allowed for some insight.
-
I'll have to go dig out my Dark Empire comics but I believe there was supposed to be a cannon in that storage space.

The design in Ahsoka was modified, the original EU version had a third canon over the cockpit:

-
I like it better without the top cannon.
-
Thanks for looking that up Ryan. I also agree with Rob, the version we got in Ahsoka looks awesome and I prefer it without the cannon.
-
Agreed on the cannon. How would the pilot be able to get in and out of the ship with that thing mounted right above the cockpit?
-
The canopy slides forward to open as opposed to lifting up like the X-Wing, so it's not that impractical...just have to mind your noggin.
-
Oh, I know the mechanics of how the canopy opens. It just struck me as something that probably wouldn't have been designed that way if it was being made as a miniature or a full sized mockup. The art department as well as the model shop at ILM always took a lot of cues from current and classic aviation in terms of design. And that cannon just would never have been something that aircraft designers would incorporate in that particular position because it could have a negative affect on crew survival in the event of a bailout.

Ejecting would be a bit of a problem.

Just a bit!
Not to go off on too much of a tangent, but the whole reference to older aircraft as inspiration for new ships made me realize that another recent ship seems to have been inspired by some WW2 era fighter planes. The fighters flown by Shin Hati and her squadron are really a lot line some of the radial engine fighters of the second world war - the FW-190, the P-47 Thunderbolt and the F-4U Corsair all have some similar lines to that new fighter seen in AHSOKA.

Looking at the old (and rare) Galoob Star Wars Action Fleet E-Wing vehicle from the late 1990s, Galoob designed the canopy with a larger rear portion to which the 3rd gun was mounted and which allowed the canopy to open in a manner similar to the X-Wing (the gun was in essence part of the canopy). Not sure how accurate that was per the old EU, but it’s a practical solution on the Galoob model. See here:

Nevertheless, I also really like the omission of the 3rd gun on the Ashoka version of the E-Wing as well as the sliding forward canopy…
And the influence of WWII era uniforms, vehicles, and equipment on Star Wars is without question! And I’m glad to see Dave Filoni and others continuing that tradition in the various new series…
-
That's an interesting detail! And believe it or not, but those Galoob designs have roots at ILM! I was really surprised to hear Adam Savage mention that he had a hand in helping design and build the Galoob Action Fleet Y-Wing back when he worked for ILM. So it seems very likely that someone in the ILM model shop probably had a hand in designing that E-Wing as well.

Nicklab, I didn’t know that concerning ILM’s involvement with the Galoob Action Fleet line - or that Adam Savage had a role in the development of their Y-Wing model! The products were obviously licensed by Lucasfilm (as all Star Wars merchandise is) just I didn’t know that ILM had more direct involvement in the design of the ships. However, at the same time, I’m not surprised by it, either. I was a big fan of the Galoob AF line back in the day and it still holds a special place with me, kind of tied with all the excitement and surge of renewed interest in Star Wars surrounding the release of the OT Special Edition films and Episode I TPM in the 1990s. Their E-Wing model visually is near spot on to the schematics that appeared in the old 1996 Technical Manual book as well as in some of the EU comics. With the previous discussions on the canopy design and 3rd gun, just thought I’d bring up the Action Fleet model as it’s currently one of the few mass produced models of the E-Wing that’s been made to date.

Had to go back to page 3 to find this thread...
Jayson says (https://x.com/yak_face/status/1835472060245577907) these are now starting to hit the US ports. If the recent pattern holds, that'd mean they will start shipping to us in 3-4 weeks.
I wonder when they are finally gonna reveal and take pre-orders for the E-Wing pilot (Lt. Callahan) that they pipelined back in February (https://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=25652.msg635302#msg635302)?

I’m hoping there will be a sale on this thing between now and the holidays. Was one the fence before but I am definitely interested now…
-
Great news on the E-Wings 8)
I’m really looking forward to this ship and hope my order from Hasbro Pulse isn’t too long in coming.
-
In stock NOW on Disney’s website. Just picked one up with Free Shipping. :)
Yeah, I probably should have waited for a sale but I have a feeling this may not stay in stock forever. Better safe than sorry, right? :D

Just saw this as well and ordered a couple! I’m gambling they’ll ship and arrive before my Hasbro Pulse order, in which event I’ll then cancel that order. I’ve received no updates on my Hasbro order other than it saying the item expects to ship in December. Nevertheless, I’m excited about the E-Wing as it’s a ship I’ve wanted in the 3.75” scale since the late 1990s.
-
Hasbro Pulse charged me this morning for my E-Wing. I suppose it's probably going to arrive in a week or so.
-
Same.
-
FedEx says this will be here Thursday. Can't wait to get this... I might just end up posing it with the Dark Empire/Dark Empire II figures until Lt. Callahan gets here next year. :P

My E-Wing came via the Disney Store today 8)

It’s a great toy/model! I’ve wanted a 3.75” scale E-Wing since the 1990s and Hasbro did not disappoint.

It is highly detailed, well painted, though not much weathering. I love the sliding canopy and fully retractable landing gear. Detail levels compare with the TVC Poe Dameron T-70 X-Wing. The KE4-N4 droid looks great. I’m using one of the New Republic pilots from the X-Wing Pilot 4-Pack figure set. They look the part and are easy to fit into the narrow cockpit.

I didn’t get my Hasbro pulse order cancelled in time and so will be getting a couple more… Now to decide what to do with them. Nonetheless, I’m glad to finally have a completely new starfighter in my collection!
-
Great photos. I can't wait to get mine.
-
Agreed, great photos tman! I will probably use the same pilot for mine as well until we get Lt. Callahan next year. I'm really looking forward to getting these.
-
I got mine from Disney yesterday and it is awesome. Looking forward to getting Callahan to complete the set.

Entertainment Earth is now taking pre-orders for a number of past Hasbro Pulse/Disney exclusives. If you missed out, here's another chance.

These have been bouncing between 10-14% off recently. If it makes it below $80, I'll probably start thinking about buying a second.
