Crap.

Do we know what time?!

The D23 stuff is supposed to go live on DisneyStore.com on August 12th at 8am PT.

I love this thing so much...what a toy! But I don't have any ollusion i would be able to jump through the hoops to get this release...I will hold out in the hopes that there will be a more mainstream Disney Store release in the future.

Okay thanks.  I’m going to try to be Johnny on the spot with this one.  I’m more worried about the exclusive figure but if I’m going to pay hundreds of dollars I might as well get the ship too.  It looks huge.

I regret not getting the original Starspeeder 1000 Vehicle / Playset back in the day.  It's a really cool offering!  And on the secondary market the price of it has just exploded!

This new version seems like Disney has leveled it up - the electronics, the screen - all of it!  I'm not crazy about the price, but that's still half of what the Starspeeder 1000 will cost you these days.  And now I'm wondering if Disney might also offer an update to th-is box set to have some figures to populate the vehicle?

It sounds like this is going to be a little more complicated offering than initially thought.  There's 3,000 of these, total?  And for D23?  THEN, on August 12th the remaining ones get released to the Disney Store online?

Something makes me think that this is an exclusive edition, and a more basic version might be coming to the Disney Parks.  Because I cannot see Disney ONLY making 3000 of these in the course of their production run.  It seems really out of character for them.

Yeah I have no idea but there’s also chatter at Rebelscum that Jayson quoted someone who talked to a rep who said that even for online orders you’ll have to be a D23 member to order one after the event.

I’m actually considering a $100 membership just so I can be sure I get this, which seems absurd… but if it goes aftermarket only they’ll be a lot more than $300 + $100.
Title: Re: 2024 Disney Star Tours Starspeeder 3000
Post by: Nicklab on August 5, 2024, 10:27 AM
That just seems completely unreasonable to me.  I've wanted the Starspeeder for A LONG TIME.  But spending $100 on a membership FOR A CHANCE at spending another $300 just seems like too much.

I'm taking my chances that a less intricate, non exclusive version will land in the Disney Parks in the event that this doesn't land in the Disney Store on 8/12.
Title: Re: 2024 Disney Star Tours Starspeeder 3000
Post by: Rob on August 5, 2024, 11:00 AM
Yeah I'm probably not going to do that...

I'm actually more concerned about the figure than the vehicle. I don't really consider it canon, and with the invention of Haslab and Hasbro's realization they can sell $200 Slave I's, there are a lot of big vehicles taking up a lot of space right now.

I'd be smarter to roll the dice on getting one for retail and then just overpaying for the figure if I can't buy the ship the regular way.

I have the 2nd version, and I'm content with it. This one looks a lot nicer. I would definitely have pulled the trigger if I didn't have a different rendition.

Update:
D'oh.The photo of the back of the box says the ship has an  LCD screen. That just might've turned me.

The virtual queue had me concerned when I went to the Disney Store site.  But I was able to get the Starspeeder as well as R6-D23.  I think the $300 price tag might have deterred a lot of potential buyers.

People on Rebelscum reporting that it's sold out.  I'm still 10,378 in line to get out of the waiting room.

It might be worth waiting to see what happens.  Once I was able to get into the Star Wars section of the store I saw the QUICK SHOP buttons.  When I clicked on the QUICK SHOP button for the Starspeeder the pop-up led me to believe it was already sold out. But then I clicked on the full listing and was able to place an order.

I was mired in queue hell for almost 30 minutes.  Then, no matter what I did, whenever I clicked on the "add to bag" button, I always got the "sorry, this item is out of stock" pop-up.  I gave up after 20 minutes of trying.  I guess it was not meant to be.  I will just have to be happy with the old version.

Yeah same.  I honestly don't care about the vehicle... but those figures I do need.  I am wondering if I'll be able to track them down without the vehicle, or if my best bet is to buy the whole thing then resell the speeder?

Can't justify $600+ for this...

One kind of fun thing about this little debacle... I think I found a figure I don't have and need to get:

I never knew the old Starspeeder came with a removable Rex.

Post by: Jedi Idej on August 12, 2024, 02:49 PM
That was an usual experience. Around 18 min after the site opened I finally finally got in. Got some weird “blocked” message when I clicked on the Starspeeder. Futzed around the site and eventually was able to click onto the starspeeder page, only to get a pop-up that it was sold out . After spending another 25 min looking for gifts, seeing the “blocked” message a couple of times, geting knocked off the site and having to re-queue, I went back to the Starspeeder, and again, got the “sold out” pop-up  multiple times after trying to add it to my cart. But then… added!

Maybe someone had it in their cart all that time and decided not to buy it?  ???

If only I put half  as much effort when I was in school that I put into this hobby…  ::)

Oh damn, looking at it maybe you're right.  It does look very light on detail.  I need to look up the right sized one, maybe that's why I never bothered getting it.

Does anyone know if the R2 from this set is something new or just a re-used R2 from earlier?  Trying to figure out my approach for tracking down RX-24 and R2 if needed, but I'm not 100% sure on that part of the equation.

Does anyone know if the R2 from this set is something new or just a re-used R2 from earlier?

Hard to say.  It is a basic R2-D2 using the Disney BAD parts (no wires on the feet).  I'm not quite sure if it's going to match up to something Disney has released before or not deco wise.

I was watching this review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmzzUkvC83U) earlier and was a bit surprised at just how huge this thing is compared to the old StarSpeeeder 1000 version.  Watching this video makes me really bummed that I didn't snag one of these as this looks like a very cool and fun toy with the lights and LCD screen ride effects.

Also very cool of Disney to include a loose RX Droid in the package so that you can leave the limited edition carded RX on the card and still have one to pilot your StarSpeeder.

Seeing the double-RX pack-in here makes me think that they could do a second run without the carded Rex.  That would give more people a chance to get this ship but still leave the uber-collectibility of the D23 version with the limited 3000 piece carded RX droid.

Post by: Matt_Fury on August 14, 2024, 11:36 PM
I think you’ll see a re-release of this without the carded Rex and possibly the light up stand.  This thing is too cool looking and too in demand for them to just make 3,000 of them.

According to my tracking number, mine will arrive at my house Friday afternoon.  I’m out of town for work and won’t get in until Friday night.  Also a friend in the UK shipped the one he got to my house as well…potentially, two of these things c=are going to show up at my house at the same time and I’m not going to be there to explain all this to my wife!   ;D

Post by: Nicklab on August 15, 2024, 09:42 AM
I was STUNNED by how big this thing is!  Truly stunned.  As big as the Razor Crest?!?!?  REALLY?!?!?

I really thought I wanted this.  But between the size and what people are getting for it on the secondary market?  I decided to put mine up for sale.  Ironically, the funds will go towards the Disney vacation that I've been planning for my kid's 12th birthday!

I think I will keep searching for a *REASONABLY* priced Starspeeder 1000 on the secondary market - AFTER the Disney trip, of course.

I managed to buy the R2-D2 today... by all accounts it's the same as the old Droid Factory R2, but I don't think I ever had that because I didn't consider the droids you can cobble together out of parts as actual figures I was going to buy.

So now that one's secured... I at least have the option of just buying an RX-24, or buying the whole thing depending on how things shake out over the next few weeks and months.

Title: Re: 2024 Disney Star Tours Starspeeder 3000
Post by: Matt_Fury on August 19, 2024, 03:12 PM
I'd be patient if I were you Rob.  Disney is going to release a park version of this...most likely without any of the bells and whistles this thing comes with (and the numbered carded RX-24.)

I saw the carded figure alone on ebay for the price of the entire StarSpeeder!  That's just as ridiculous as people listing this thing for 6 times the retail price.
Title: Re: 2024 Disney Star Tours Starspeeder 3000
Post by: Rob on August 19, 2024, 03:57 PM
Yeah that’s my plan right now.  The R2 was very reasonably priced all things considered.  I’m not going to end a complete collection over an expensive Rex, but I’m going to let it play out for awhile.  I don’t NEED the Starspeeder, space is limited, but if I can’t get the Rex for less than half of the current market I might as well wait and see if I can get an entire ship later.

Cool!  Most of our time in Orlando will be mid-week, so I don't know how convenient that might be for you.  We're going to be staying at the resort, so I was not planning on renting a car.  WDW's ground transportation is pretty extensive.

According to the DisneyParks Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/stories/disneyparks/3454130831472670943/), the Star Speeder 3000 is coming to Disney Parks' Tatooine Traders store on September 13th (limit 2 per person).

It isn't clear if this is more of the "limited to 3000" version or if this is a new/different edition for the parks...  wait and see I guess.

Post by: Rob on September 10, 2024, 04:07 PM
Oh good, that should drive the prices way down.  Glad I waited on getting a RX-24.

EDIT:  On Rebelscum they're speculating that this will just be left-over stock from D-23 and not actually a consistently carried in-stock item for the parks...

EDIT:  On Rebelscum they're speculating that this will just be left-over stock from D-23 and not actually a consistently carried in-stock item for the parks...

Seems like a lot of needless overhead to save an allotment specifically to ship across the country for the Florida Tatooine Traders store after already selling out at two other times but maybe that was the plan all along so FL Disney didn't feel left out of the buzz.

Yeah I hope it's not like that and this will just be available now... if there was extra, I'd have thought they'd just put it on the website with all the rest that they sold out of that first hour.

Post by: Muftak on September 10, 2024, 08:07 PM
I really hope this is the start of open stock / beyond the 3000, but I am worried this was an allotment set aside for WDW from the beginning. From everything I have seen, there were only 700 set aside for the online sales, and those were staged in two different shipping spots (east coast and west coast) prior to D23, so it makes sense to me that there could have been a whole separate allotment for Orlando.

Entirely selfishly, I will be in Orlando in a couple weeks and if there should be Starspeeders available at that time it will really really tempting. So I am praying to the toy gods tonight!
Title: Re: 2024 Disney Star Tours Starspeeder 3000
Post by: Nicklab on September 10, 2024, 09:26 PM
Jake from 4Lom To Zuckuss is saying that what's landing at Tatooine Traders will be the last of the 3000 units.  If this is in fact the case?  Then I suspect that this could be a supply that was on hand in the event that people received their Starspeeder damaged, there were shipping issues, etc.

However, I still find it to be completely absurd that Disney would invest so much capital into this new Starspeeder vehicle / playset to limit the production run to 3000 pieces globally.  I think it's entirely possible that a pared down version that has fewer features might be offered for sale at the Disney Parks.  That could mean possibly without the base, or with just one RX pilot droid, etc.

I went to Disney Hollywood Studios and checked out Tatooine Traders today.  They had 31 of these all over the store with a limit of two per customer.

Almost criminal what Shop Disney did to people who can't make it to the parks.

Damn this sucks… I think I’m still going to just hold out hope that this will drive prices down to get the figure for say, less than $100, and skip the vehicle.  There are a few on eBay hitting $200 or best offer… maybe there’s hope.

I am two weeks away from my trip to Orlando...I really wonder if there might be some lingering that far out.

From the numbers on the cases I saw it looks like they had 1150 of the 3000 set aside for WDW. It is crazy that how they broke it out, online got the smallest allocation.

Well, I just bought an RX-24, found a seller who took $145 for it.  Thats’s still too much but is less than half of where we started.

They’ll be widely available before you know it.  You’re welcome everyone.

(In all seriousness I might leave it carded for a few months to see how it shakes out… resell the limited edition one if he’s released in another format).

Wow, I am surprised they sold you the carded sample that comes with the set, that is the only piece of the set with the limited edition number on it from what I've heard...that's something I would have a hard time justifying taking off the card. I agree you might want to hold out to see if that figure comes out some other way in the next year or so before freeing him from the packaging.

I'd leave it carded since they are numbered.  There's a bagged Rex that comes in the box with the Speeder as well.  I hope the folks at Hasbro are taking notes for future Haslabs!

I’d heard that but oddly enough haven’t seen any of those on eBay.  I wonder if something about my search is keeping me from finding them or if people just aren’t selling the inexpensive ones.

I do see one loose one up there right now but they are asking $230 for it.
