I'm running a little late here in getting this up and running, so we're gonna have to move quick on it folks... That said, it's time for the 3rd annual JediDefender Secret Santa gift exchange! Sign-ups will be ending at noon on Dec. 7...
We've had a lot of fun (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=5819.0) with the prior two (thanks to Wayne/Reconsgt for the original idea), and exchanged a lot of cool SW (and non-SW) goodies, so if you're interested in partaking in the festivities this year, then go ahead and give us a holler here, and we'll sign you up!
This is pretty much just like most Secret Santa games you've probably been involved with in the past. We're gonna have a sign up list, and then I'll draw names out of a hat, at which point everyone will be assigned another JD member to send a gift to. It usually helps if everyone gets their trade list wants up to speed and bumped in the trading forum, so your Secret Santa knows what may be of interest to you. No real dollar limit perse. Anything from $5 to $50 is just fine - whatever you feel comfortable with. We probably averaged about $20 - $25 a gift in the first two gift exchanges, if that helps give you a ballpark amount to roll with. I'll go ahead and take down everyone's addresses too, and will PM them to whoever gets assigned that respective person.
I should add that if you feel particularly inclined to send a gift to a specific person (perhaps you have something that you know that they really want), feel free to let me know and maybe I can "fix" a name or two... ;)
Feel free to browse folks' trade/want lists here, or have another member do a little "third party investigating" on your behalf, or just find some fun stuff all on your own. So with that said, let's get the sign ups going here, and have some fun! We'll probably run the sign-up for about a week. I think that's everything for now, but feel free to give us a shout if you've got any questions about the gift exchange. So without further ado...

Oh, please... Don't exaggerate like that you doof. We barely made it past Valentine's Day (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=5819.msg104580#msg104580) last year before we were all wrapped up... ::)
Our resident TV star was just a little busy with autograph appearances and what not last year - that's all. Besides, it's always better to take one's time and get it right, than to rush a Christmas gift that sucks donkey dork.

BTW, I meant to state this before (and just edited it into the first post), but I know that occassionally folks have someone specific in mind that they'd really like to get paired with. Perhaps they have something they know the other person really wants, or they just really want to repay them for some help they've gotten from them in the past... Whatever. But if that's the case, and you have a specific member in mind you'd like to give a gift to, feel free to LMK and I just might be able to coerce the hat into spitting out a particular name for you... ;)

Matt, I suggest you hook those two up with each other so we don't need to deal with customs (International shipping & Canadian mating rituals) this close to Christmas.

Nope, not yet. Sign-ups will end at noon on Dec. 7th (Wednesday), so maybe we can lure a few more stragglers in here before then. I'll send around PMs to everyone with their Secret Santa assignments later that day.
Also, everyone should PM me their addresses, if they haven't already done so. I'll be keeping them private of course, and only sharing them with your Secret Santa. So try and get the rest of those in folks. Time's a'tickin'!

Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be new or unopened SW toys, and you don't HAVE to get something off of someone's want list. Folks are just posting those to give their Santas a hint as to what they're in the market for, or what type of stuff they collect.
Most people (who are openers) always love extra Clones, or army-builders, even if they're open. Heck, it doesn't even have to be Star Wars related. You could give gift cards, CDs, DVDs, books, whatever...

That's true, one year I couldn't find anything on a guy's want list except for a couple of movies he listed. It was scary, but I managed to find some stuff.
And though it hasn't been mentioned (or I missed it) you need only spend as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. The real intent here is the spirit of the notion not that somebody buys me a trilogo vintage boba fett. Not that I wouldn't be happy if I got one, but that's not what it's about :P

Yeah like Matt and MorgBug have said you don't have to send SW stuff. I know I have gotten a Movie from Brent the first time we did this since he didn't have access to anything on my wants list. I have sent out all star wars stuff to my receipent only because of the easy of what they needed, one was an army builder and the other one was tougher but mangaed to get something that he needed after a little digging. As far as how much you spend I usually only spend around $25 or so not inculding Shipping.

What a wonderful idea this was....probably the ONLY way I'll get anything this year(maybe). I've been very very BAD this year. Sure giving's easy but at least this way I GET something!!!! Hey even if it's a half-eaten sandwitch-that's still getting SOMETHING...Yes!!!!!

OK folks, all but several of the Secret Santa assignments have been sent out now! Jeff's gonna shoot the last few out, just so my Santa remains anonymous to me... ;)
I'll send everyone their respective addresses tomorrow night though, since I'm outta time right now, and have to search through a gagillion PMs to find them now.
Don't forget to send me the rest of your addresses for me to pass along, and to bump your trading/classifieds lists up with some Wants. Good idea to include some CDs, DVDs, books, etc. as well, just in case your Santa can't get ahold of the elusive SW stuff that you need...

Don't feel like you guys have to send the gift out this weekend though! Still plenty of time, and as some folks have done in the past, going a little beyond Christmas isn't the end of the world (though Valentine's Day is pushing it :P). Some folks may need a day or two to get their Wants list updated and in order, so keep an eye out for them. I know I still have to do mine as well (hopefully tonight).
Another thing is that it's up to you whether you want to try to remain anonymous when you send your package out. That's a little tricky though, since most of us could probably figure it out from the return address/postage stamps. But still, you don't have to advertise yourself as their Santa if you don't want to, though most of us generally do...
And again, the dollar amount is up to you, and can range from $5 on up to $50 - whatever you feel comfortable with. We've probably averaged $20 - $25 per gift in the first couple go-'rounds though.

Sorry to be so late in writing you.
I've been looking over the toy room trying to think of a few things to put on my wish list. The trouble is, I've managed to pick up almost all of what I've wanted all year long. I've passed on a lot, and I'm feeling like I might be difficult to help out this year. That's really not new, my wife has been telling me that for years.
Let's get the really big one out of the way first. What I want for Christmas / life in general is a shot at being on Survivor. I know, it's nuts, but it is a goal of mine. I've been working really hard on it and if there's anything you could do to help out I'd really be grateful.
Now that that is out of the way, there are a few Star Wars items that would round out the collection.
You probably know I have three kids. We open everything and we play with it. We set stuff up and we knock stuff over. There are a lot of lightsaber fights with the figures and each other. We've been sticking to the 3 3/4" line for the most part, and a few of the little Galactic Heros guys. My daughter has the 12" Leia w/speederbike, the 12" Biker Scout w/speeder and the 100th Luke, but I think she's all set with those (ie doesn't play with them much).
I bought my son the Sam's Club Mustafar set for Christmas, and I should have the Space Station finished by then as well if the CNC guy gets me the parts I need. Check out the sketches here (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7034.msg117383#msg117383). Something to put into the Space Station would be cool, if you're of the customizing nature. Control panels, benches, rebel hanger transports - anything cool that makes it more playable.
What we could really use are lightsabers for the figures. Any normal saber is great. The ones with the detachable handles seem really fragile, so we play with the solid hilt ones and some figures just go without in big battles.
We don't really build "armies" per se, but with the amount of clones released this year we find ourselves with quite a few. One place we're a little understaffed is Jawas. We bought the Sandcrawler this year, and they have trouble keeping the droids in line. We also like astromechs, but we've picked up all of the ones so far except for the EE sets...

One more thing Secret Santa, will you please write a short note about why you're still here doing what you do with Star Wars and include it with my package? You don't have to, but I'd be really interested to read what you get out of Star Wars in general and Star Wars plastic toys specifically.

Actually it's a bit creepy. I was going to include those as well, but damned if I could find them in my office :o :D After Scott sent them on up, I was waiting for a place to send them so I put them in the drawer that I keep my trading toys (Star Wars, gutter minds) in until a suitable recipient, such as Mikey, was lined up. Well, I finally get around to boxing up Mikey's gift and you think I could find those damn things? Not a ******* chance. I can FINALLY weigh in on this thread!
I received my package from Tom some time ago, but refused to allow myself to open it until I got my ass in gear and got my package sent out. As of 12:30 today, my package is finally in the mail on it's way to a very patient receipent.
That said, I ripped open my gift from Tom and now have 2 more SA Clones and Clone Pilots to add to the army. Thanks dude!! Sorry I suck so bad at this! At least I beat Valentines Day.

Yes, my valentine gift arrived a few days ago, or at least that's when I was able to get out of the house and go to the post office and get it. It may have been in there for a few days for all I know. But it actually included a "Razapplemagic" Wonka Fun Dip Valentine, I'll have to scan it. It's funny.

DS, I'm guessing it's probably one of us five(?) that you sent yours to. You may want to think about breaking the bad news to that person. Either through Staff or personally. Just so that person can have some closure (i.e., stop telling his kids to 'expect a package any day now!' ;) ), or just so they don't have to check this thread and can be crossed off the list.

Bob, your Secret Santa/Leprechaun sends word that your loot will definitely show up within the next week, and that you have not been forgotten. He also apologizes profusely for the ridiculous delay due to some of his personal issues going on right now. So stay tuned, and hopefully your patience will be properly rewarded.
I'll check in on the rest of the slow pokes too, but I'm sure eventually everyone will get their stuff. Just some unusually lazy/busy folks this year, for whatever reason. I'm mildly concerned about Hemish's package though, since his Santa supposedly sent it about a month and a half ago... :-\

As Hemish is probably keenly aware, overseas mail can be ridiculous in terms of delivery time. There's indeed potential for it to be lost, but I've had items sent via airmail from Europe take 10 weeks to arrive! It's absurd, but it can happen. And yes, I always check the postage date stamp to be sure if the sent date is accurate. After all, Scott's package took six weeks to go five hundred miles due north. Dog sled was tired or some such crap.

Matt completely mixed up the lists. The uneven count was solved something like this:
For 5 members - A, B, C, D, E:
A has B, B has D, D has C, C has E, and E has A.
Everyone is covered even though there is an odd number of participants. ;)

Other than just saying the obvious, I'll add something more.
I believe I used the term Murphy's Law incorrectly. It's supposed to mean that if anything can go wrong, it will. So, this doesn't really apply to me not receiving my SS package after I said I hadn't received anything. I don't know if there's a law/adage that refers to just this type of thing; however, I'd like to nominate "Secret Santa Law" as it's moniker. ;)
And in case anyone wasn't able to deduce it through my verbose ramblings, I haven't received my SS package yet, either.

I'm really not sure why Deanpaul hasn't gotten his present by now, I entrusted it to my parents some time ago to have it sent off. From my understanding of the events after that time, it was sent off. I'll try to get to the bottom of it, though.
I would really like to apologize to Deanpaul in any case, however. Despite the circumstances that I've been thrust into recently and historically, there really isn't any excuse for the package not being sent off. I feel like a real jackass about the whole thing, because as I've said I find it inexcusable that it has taken so long for Dean to get his gift.
Once again Dean, I am so sorry, and hopefully your stuff is either en route or about to be sent off.

Hopefully all the rain we've been getting hasn't washed it away or blurred the delivery address. I guess I'll know for sure if it's been delivered to the wrong address when I see the "inmates" from the rehab clinic down the block reenacting the battle of Hoth with my figures. ;D All it'll take is some cheap wine and a pack of zig-zags and those toys will be mine once again.

I just worded it wrong! I should have said in my second post! If you don't want to let the board know who it was, just give the info to the persons themselves! Not really too hard to understand! I understood where JoshEEE came from so I offered a different solution. And it's not that I really care, just hate seeing anyone taken, especially since Hemish is one of the guys who hasn't received his X-Mas gift. He's a stand up kind of guy, and I hate seeing him not get a gift!

I think you like stirring the pot more than you really care about the topic in this case.

See, right there in that post, Hemish learns who his Santa was. His Santa mailed the box and it looks like the Post Office lost it.
Same goes for Deanpaul. His Santa has already revealed himself as well, in this very thread:

The only real "stance" I see you taking in those last few posts is that no one should get taken. Well, duh. No one in this event should get ripped off - not Hemish, Slothus, stormie, or Deanpaul.
That doesn't change the fact that I believe you're only posting in this thread in order to stir the pot a little bit (and apparently doing a good job of it since you got at least a few people to respond to you).

Seriously. I AM part of the staff here, and this isn't MY business, so thusly I stay out of it. Hemish is one of MANY stand-up people at our site... He's one of the entire membership here of "stand up people", and the staff in charge of this are handling this for said people.
Those of us not involved need not comment... Call me spanky, but that'd be MY "stance". Thank you.

I believe there were/are 3 people who have yet to get a gift (either lost in the mail or just plain stiffed) and that is just ridiculous - it's JUNE!
The 2006 event will most likely have stricter rules, a "mail by" deadline date and will most likely have some kind of punishment for not meeting the deadline (since it apparently has come to that).

That makes sense. Perhaps people who have been unsuccesful in sending gifts in the past shouldn't be allowed to participate, or at the very least simply not be assigned a Secret Santa until their recipient has received a package.
I know I've enjoyed it the last couple of years and would hate to see it go away because we have people that either lost interest, refused to send packages until they received one....or are just procrastinating a little too long.

That sucks. I've never lost a package yet, but I think I'll send with delivery confirmation and insurance when I do the secret santa packages, because I'm sending to someone who has no idea it's coming and that's really the only way to verify they got MY gift.
I'd recommend everyone spend the extra dollar to do that this Christmas, it'll help save you the grief. ;D

That's an interesting point. I considered it for about 2 seconds before shipping the package to Australia. After determining I spent over 40$ on a gifts then 14$+ on custom air shipping as it were I deducted I was done spending and didn't want to spend the 2+ more for DC. Since I was a 'new guy' for SS I guess that's why I got 'picked' to ship the farthest? All I could determine since I know alot of the pairings were not random. I guess I got a BURNing start with the SS program.

Some guys made requests for who they wanted to send their gifts to, so those ones weren't random. But the remaining guys who didn't state a preference were paired randomly. Jon, you didn't get pcked to ship the farthest because you were new, that was just luck of the draw.
