Title: Magnifing glass?
Post by: Phrubruh on February 18, 2006, 10:55 PM
Does anyone know where I can get one these fairly cheap? I think it would be great for painting customs, holding parts for dremeling and clamping down parts as they dry. Does anyone use something like this for their projects?

I'm gonna make your silver pants blue!

Seriously though, I've been wanting that magnifier-holder thingy since I saw the show.

X-acto makes this, I have the Extra Hands Dual Alligator Clamp (http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/xac/xacx75140.htm) when I used to do plastic modeling back in the day.

They have the Extra Hands & Magnifier (http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/xac/xacx75170.htm) which is perfect for getting close up. Check out your nearest hobby or craft store to see if they have this.

This place, which we like to refer to as A.S.S.,  is where I buy a ton of customizing stuff from and they have the same one you are looking for.  It doesn't come with that 60's style blue base, but it comes in a nice Sith style black & the best part is they are only $9...

I have one of those but I almost never use it :(

Maybe it'll get more use after I set up my workstation in my Hobby Room next month...

Don't you think those things are in danger of snapping off?

HobbytownUSA may have one cheaper than MicroMark...

I also get a good hobby magazine that sells random stuff cheap, but now I can't think of the name of it...   ::)

I'd check out hobby stores first Paul, you may get something cheaper than MicroMark can deliver because I've found some of their stuff to be pricey at times.

Just incase anyone's still interested in these...

I just picked this up at Radio Shack for $13.00

It also has a soldering iron holder on the back that could be used to hold piant and/or brushes, if one were so inclined. :D

The almost unreadable part at the top says "Helping Hands With Magnifier"

When my wife saw that in the movie, she said instantly, "you need one of those!"

She had a ball with teasing me about that movie... There was a sceen where he was drinking an
Orange fanta soda, well, that just happend to be what i was drinking when we were watching it.
She got a kick out of that!
Even the fact that Six Million Dollar man was one of my favorite toys when
I was a kid... And YES i had Oscar Goldman and Bionic Big Foot!!

My only sad comeback... Well you know i'm not a virgin!  :(
