This is interesting news if it's true:

Yet another exclusive to fight and scratch over :-\......sigh.  Looks cool, I love the "Vader's Fist" banner and Imperial base.

I'm sorry, but that's the lamest fan-wank ever.

Hasbro needs to stop ******* around with exclusives and sell their good product, like the SA vTOC Stormtroopers, so that consumers can just walk into a store and buy what they want. This dangling of their good sculpts in limited, increasingly overinvolved and time consuming ways is getting obnoxious.

So, if this is true then there will be an exclusive at the Hasbro booth (this one) and then another at the SWShop booth (Shadow Stormtrooper)?  That seems strange...

I think it kicks ass and would love to have a couple.  I wish these cool exclusives weren't such a pain in the ass to get!

I just wish these exclusives didn't cost so friggin' much.   >:(

I mean, no matter if I grab them from SWShop or a member here who is nice enough to offer extras to the rest of us, the cost is crazy!

$30 - 2x 2006 SDCC SWShop Exclusive Shadow Stormtroopers (loose and carded)
$30 - 2x 2006 SDCC Hasbro Exclusive 501st Stormtrooper (loose and carded)
~$10 - Shipping

I'm looking at $70 for four exclusive figures!   ::)

I agree with what Jared mentioned in his post, why doesn't Hasbro just make the SA Stormtrooper available at retail, instead of continually using it for these repainted exclusives that cost $15 or more?  I know I'd really like to build up an army of SA Stormies (more than the 2 that I have), and I'm sure there are plenty of others out there that would too.  Kids too for that matter.  It boggles my mind how popular Stormtroopers (or most/any troops in general) are, and yet they are never released in various assortments anymore.  Sure, we see some clones now - which is great - but aside from a few commtechs that were scattered out in the OTC line, we hardly ever see basic Stormies on the pegs anymore.  They should pretty much always be out there I think.

Anyways - back on topic - I have to admit I do kind of want one of these if it turns out to be true.  I'm going to have to rely on help, or the SWShop for both this and the "Shadow" Stormtrooper.  I just want one of each, and I hate paying $15 for them, but I do kind of like them.

Easy.  Marketing.

They'll "make" you dish out $15 a pop for these versions of the VOTC stormie, then a few years down the road charge you $15 for the plain version via EE.com or some other outlet.

If they sold you all the white stormies you could swallow now, chances are you wouldn't come back asking for more.

That's why the VTSC Biker Scout is only packed 2 per case.

I'm just not believing this to be an accurate report. It looks cool, which makes it even less likely. But Hasbro making two stormtrooper figures for exclusives in not only the same year but at the same shows? Methinks not.

Should it be true, I need 4. And a background story to go with them.
Title: Re: 2006 SDCC Exclusive 501st Legion Stormtrooper?
Post by: stormie on April 19, 2006, 05:25 PM
The word exclusive has become all too inclusive.
How many "exclusives" are there now at SDCC?

Though I really like this figure (I'm a sucker for anything Stormtrooper), I'm really irritated at how many hard-to-find or otherwise ridiculously expensive exclusives there are. And this is essentially just a rehash of the VOTC Stormie with a wittle tiny emblem on its chest. Oh yeah, and a flag. Worth $15+? No. But I still want need one...or two. Hopefully they'll be available online like the Shadow Trooper.

I agree with you ruiner but as far as the VTSC Biker Scout being 2 per case. All the VTSC are 2 to a case. (10 figs. total per case)

Easy enough to pass on because for me not movie accurate or EU accurate. Looks like he belongs in Vader's section chearing for the Dark Lord of the Sith at a Sporting Event. Being a non-completist, I'm back on passing on figures I don't want or that I cannot justify the cost on.

I'll pass... the Shadow Trooper is cool enough to get my money, this isn't. This figure is a bit similar to the first Target clone, with nothing changed but a small logo painted on. The stand is nice though...

Too bad this couldn't be a repainted #41 Tac Ops Clone. That would go great with the base and the Vader's Fist banner.

Why is it that the flag is in Enligh rather than Aurebesh? This guy looks pretty good other than that one little detail, I may get 1, and only 1. If this guy had been at retail I would have picked up around 20.

As long as they keep making it EU, I don't give a **** what they do.

If this were a Galactic Marine or Kashyyyk BARC trooper, I'd have a beef.

HA! BlackDog this made me laugh out loud.

You're right, it looks like you should push that base and it will say in Temura's voice "Vader, Vader, He's Our Man, If He Can't Kill Him, No One Can! YEAH!"

Of course, I need two. Unlike the Shadow Stormtroopers which was an easy buy from SWShop.com today, this one is going to be a major P.I.T.A., I just know it. Now I have to hope that Matt will take pity on me again this year...

The price alone kills it for me.   Honestly the $15 price tag on exclusives lately just turns me off so damn much.  At least this one is just a VOTC stormtrooper for the most part.  I can live without it.  Sorry to be negative I don't like to be but it really is getting my boxers in a bunch lately.

My opinion too Ryan...  I'd have liked it all spelled in Aurabesh, but at the same time I'd have bought a TON of this figure at basic retail but as an overpriced exclusive I'll stick with one I guess...  If it's not horribly hard to find and priced, I'd get two.

The Nazi-ish look of the standard bearer accessory and stuff really is kind of unique and neat.  I like the match to real-world history there with Imperials, and this figure taking that a bit further.

Of course it's going to be ungodly priced though, so I'll get one and that's it.  The banner is quite neat though.  That's a nice accessory.

RS updated the link that was initially in the first thread:

http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/UPDATE_501st_San_Diego_Comic_Con_Exclusive_Figure_98083.asp

As if collectors didn't have enough on their plate with San Diego Comic Con exclusives for 2006 already, up pops this new mysterious image along with the following text...

"As per the 501st Merchandising Officer:

"Hasbro is making a 501st Legion action figure to be sold exclusively at the Hasbro booth at the San Diego Comic Con. The figure will have "501st Legion" printed on its chest and include a 501st Legion fabric banner.

What the figure doesn't show is the packaging. Assuming they haven't changed the design since we first spoke, the packaging will include a special trading card, using the 501st trading card artwork, that is removable without opening the package so you can insert your own trading card.

It will only be available at the SDCC Hasbro booth for $15."

Stay tuned to Rebelscum.com for more news as it hits!

*This item has been confirmed. We're looking to find out more as soon as the parties involved do, and can pass along that info. Things like production numbers, availability after the show and daily limits if any have yet to be determined. We're also awaiting the final packaging design as it will be unique to this figure alone from what I hear. As usual, keep it tuned in right here for more soon as it comes across our desk!

Yeah,
RS updated the link that was initially in the first thread:

Yeah, I had a few e-mails in the in-box this morning from some of the 501st members.  It sounds like the cat was let out of the bag a little early as the card designs are not final, but this is pretty much confirmed at this point.

Should be at the Hasbro booth at this year's SDCC.  It will be carded in a style similar to the 501st trading cards and will run the same as the other Stormtrooper ($14.99), but no word on when/how/if it will be available after SDCC.   :-\

I am simply posting this image for comparative reasons.

I wouldn't be surprised if the flag included with the figure was altered more as to not so closely resemble the Nazi staff/flag

Surprising to see so many of you guys getting your panties in a bunch over the price of this.  It is only a few more dollars more than the VOTC Stormtrooper and it IS an exclusive.  I'm willing to bet if this cost a few dollars less all of you haters would be all over it.  For people who spend so much money on children's toys to get so uptight over a few dollars is just too funny.

Since I'm not a member of the 501st legion, I think I'll stick a different card in there...

I like it. Not enough to army build them, but I'll be happy with one to keep MOC and if possible a second one to open.

The Shadow Stormtrooper on the other hand - 6 man squad here I come!

I almost view this piece as akin to the Celebration III Vader.

Deep down, I'm not thrilled about stuff that is meant to be exclusive to a specific event as not everyone can travel and I personally don't feel like I should have to travel all over the US or internationally to get a complete collection of a toy line. So I'll resort to either (a) an assist from someone here; (b) an online site that MIGHT have them after SDCC or worst case (c) eBay.

Yeah, I'm underwhelmed by this... a plain stormtrooper with an imperial logo on his chest and a flag.  Nice packaging, though.  I don't remember seeing any flags in the movies, much less with English words on them.  Although, I guess it's probably okay to have a so-so exclusive for these types of things because it's difficult for people to get without going to the convention.

Well I guess everyone has done their homework and know by now that it seems this figure is not a joke (although the price is, lol) and the Shadow Stormtrooper will NOT be at SDCC.

I hate the pricing too, but since HasBLO keeps starving us, we keep buying.  So, I'm wanting a couple of these myself.

Does anyone have any information as to whether or not this figure will make it to an online seller (most likely StarWarsShop.com)??

I'd prefer not to miss out on this piece.  :)

Well, nobody went crazy over Gree because, the SA sculpt is awesome...  for an SA Trooper, but for Gree the SA sculpt just sucked.  It wasn't accurate to his character, lacking the leg holster(s), the "suspenders", etc...

For the 501st Exclusive Trooper...  Eh, I don't know.  I'm stoked that they did use the SA sculpt since it surpasses all others.  This is just a Stormtrooper with some "flare" so I'm glad for the sculpt in that regard...  It's the best sculpt for the job, but the price will kill the figure from being affordable, and the exclusive label will hurt how available it is I'd assume.

The 501st them is a "fan wank" as they say, and nothing more...  I love the banner for reasons already stated.  I've seen custom banners like that for SW figures and I think they're a great touch of earth history to Star Wars life...  The 501st logo on the chest is cool, all part of the "fan wank" again, but I agree it should be in aurabesh, not English.

It's a cool figure...  It's not a cool army builder at its (inevitable) inflated price.  I still wish I had the ability to get one of these for every 10 Stormtroopers I have...  They're the perfect front line to a Stormtrooper army display.

I for one am boycotting this figure.
I met 10 501's in the flesh and they are all ********! The are also scalpers who work at Walmart & Target as stock boys. (100% confirmation they buy cases before they hit the floor to help out the other 501's or sell them on ebay. And the best part these fucknuts get a suck off from Hasbro. The figure is lame with the Vaders fist logo and flag.

I am all for helping people but darth Vader is not the symbol of charity. Vaders fist...dumb. He killed kids not helped Ronald McDonald house.

How about re-relaesing the real plain white stromtrooper instead.

Nah, I was not drinking last night, had too many bad run ins with 501's  at Walmart & Target. Dorks with attitudes. I am sure there are mostly good guys but life is based on personal experiences. So screw this waste of plastic.

No Kevin I am not kidding. I am serious when I say I am boycotting this figure. I think it a waste of tooling dollars on the flag stand and base.

Here is a short list of better exclusives using the tooling money they spent on the stand to make a worthwhile figure:

Ghost of Yoda using the OTC Yoda (To match the OTC Obi
Darth Vader Hologram POTF commtech vader with plastic cape from another Vader
New Biggs Darklighter head with Dutch Body
Saga Rebel Fleet trooper with new head sculpt
Saga Imerial Officer with new head sculpt
Unique painted R2 unit with Naboo ship charger stand.

Ya know, something that actually can compliment and truly fit with the continuity of the line. (Creating everything from the films)

Just my opinion. Yes I did go a little overboard on a rant. Ment no harm.

Ah, the good old Midwest Garrison strikes again. ::) I've spend a lot of time up in Chicago and yes, there are a lot of a**holes there just like there are any other major city. A vast majority of the ones I met were not in the 501st or for that matter, fans of Star Wars or anything else related to Sci-Fi or Fantasy. Some Cubs fans, White Sox fans, Bears fans maybe but not Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans. ;) At any rate, the fact that a couple of them are members of the 501st is not surprising since the group, like any other group of people, is a microcosm of the people and places in which they are formed. I sorry you don't like the figure or people in the 501st. Heck, I myself tend to dislike most of humanity in general because of all the frelling a**holes I met in nearly fourty years of life. Nevertheless, I still try, and sometimes fail, to take everyone as an individual and not groups in which they belong.

Heck, even the best of families have their blacksheep. ;)

My opinion. Those are very bad exclusives, with the exception of Vader. They would all make great basic figures, but as an exclusive they are horrible. Exclusives need to be nothing more repaints and rehashes if they are going to be offered for $15. They are hard for a lot of people to get and it is much better to have a figure out that most people don't want as a basic figure. Personally I don't mind exclusives like the Target lava Obi-Wan and Anakins, it saves me $30, and I don't miss anything really special. If that had been two of the ones on your list however I'd still save $30 but I'd miss out on two figures I wanted, Or I would have spent $20 more than I should have on two figures.

I still think I may get one of these, I've had nothing but good run ins with the 501st, especially at CIII. Stormtroopers directing traffic was on of the funniest things I've ever seen. :)

I do no totally disagree with you. I did not say they were the best exclusives, just better than that 501st. (I can think of better new mold exclusives, namingly some certain Ice Cream weilding idividual I would love as an exclusive)
Using exsisting molds is what I threw out above. I agree sometimes its actually nice to pass on exclusives like Lava Obi.
It a real pain in the ass to make multiple trips to Target right now.

Now if that was an army building pack of the VOTC stormtrooper that would kick major ass as an exclusive! :D

Nice Farscape lingo too. Its sucks that show is gone, great Sci-Fi.

Check out the front page here at JediDefender.com for our exclusive shots of the SDCC 501st Stormtrooper loose and carded as well as a packaging mock-up of it.

Looks pretty sweet to me...  I can't wait to get at least one but man the 501st banner makes me wish I could get a handful of them.

You and me both as long as it's VOTC and priced like the old Stormie army builder packs. :)

To me this 501st's coolest feature are the banners...  They're very earthy little items in that they remind me of the SS banners carried on parade fields during Nazi war rallies...  I like that element of Earth History influencing the design.

this exclusive just dosn't seem that great. i do love stormtroopers, but a little banner and a tiny decal hardly make it worthy of being an exclusive. i think the best part for me is the packaging, now that looks cool. i'd still like to have one, just one, because the idea is cool, but i was hoping for a bit more from this figure!

Put me down for one if you are able to get one.

I feel the same way about the army builder pack. That would be too cool if they offered 4 VOTC Stormtroopers for that $20 some odd price. They would go like hot cakes.

No, I think the writing is odd looking also. I would have like it if they done away with the chest emblem. I don't remember seeing any Stormtroopers from the 501st with that chest emblem from any comics, books, etc.

Just FYI Brians Toys has this up for pre-order on their website (under exclsuvie figures in the Saga2 section) Its like 39.99 though. Just wanted to let you guys know.

That price is just ridicules. They are only priced at $15 or something like that at the comic con. Brians Toys is nothing more than a scalper with a website. I would never buy something from him even if I couldn't find it anywhere else.

C3 Vader came online at SWS.com a little while after the show itself.  Sacul did not though other than secondary retailers.

I'd suggest the odds are very good this will show up on SWS.com by September at the latest.  I'd prefer to have my hands on it prior to that, but if I don't get it, it won't be a huge deal.

Hasbros' shipping will quickly wash out the lower figure price if they even are lower at all. Its nice they are offering this mediocre exclusive.
The new Sandtrooper is the bomb you can make all the VOTC Stormtoopers you want. A little paint thinner cleans the up really nice and its have the price with worthwhile extra parts.

I managed to get in and get the order through, confirmation number and all.

If you're logged in to your account, leave the process you're in and go look at your account.  Then go to your cart and proceed through the check out steps.  I kept getting error messages while trying to hammer straight through the process and pages would fail to load, etc.  Changed the approach and it was "fairly quick" keeping in mind how busy their server is and how crappy our connection here at work is.

Received the order confirmation email while typing this message. 8)

Guess what?  OUT OF STOCK!  After two hours straight of trying to just get one figure, they go out of stock.  Thanks Hasbro, for once again proving why your website is completely useless.  >:(

Well I got shut out too... didn't get the order through.

I'm slightly less mad than furious because I have a friend who is at Comic-Con and left a message on my other friend's phone saying that he got 5 of them, but it was from last night.

Anyone know if they were already for sale at Comic-Con last night?

Well, that sucked.

After trying to get the page to load for an hour and a half, I ended up with squat.

Oh well, after shipping he would have been $21 anyway.

Too much for a $7 figure.

Good, then I have hope that I'm not screwed.

I'm still angry at how ****** Hasbro's site was and how they managed to sell out without me even being able to put 3 in a cart and checkout over the course of 45 minutes.

I wonder how it is possible so many people couldn't get pages to load and actually purchase the figure, only to have that figure magically sell out.

You'd think if so many people couldn't get in, that they wouldn't sell out so quickly, right?

Then again, this is Hasbro we're talking about...

She's probably misinformed.

I'm going to wait this one out.  If you wait 6 months or so, you can usually get one on the cheap on ebay.

Check out the completed auctions for holo Leia from last year - she's going for $10-$17 right now.

I got my 501st in the mail today!   (thanks Matt  :))

Overall, I like this figure.

Like JJ said previously, a cool "front line" trooper to place in front of a group of stormies.  Sure, the banner is in English, not aurebesh, but I can overlook that little detail.

I have no plans to army build him, but I'm glad I got one to open up.

I don't know why somethings just go over my head, but Darth Bonk raised a good point. Why is the text on the flag in English? ???

For display purposes, I may black one of them out.

'Scum potsed pix (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2006/hasbro_50sttrooper_nonsdccexclusive.jpg&text=Packaging%20variation%20of%20SDCC%20exclusive%20501st%20Stormtrooper) of the "regular" version.  It doesn't have the "Comic-Con Exclusive, San Diego 2006" text under the 501st Stormtrooper title on the front, and is missing the Comic Con logo on the back, which has just been replaced with an additional Hasbro logo.  That's about it though.  I usually track down most figure variants, but for an additional $20 (incl. shipping), I'm contemplating letting this one slide...

That's how it should be though, aside from price...  It should be a readily available item.  I'm not a fan of truly limited stuff.  The hobby's not about value afterall, or it shouldn't be in my mind anyway, so I'm glad to see this figure sitting there.  It may mean I nab another if I make a semi-bulk purchase there at some point.

At first I thought that this auction was ludicrous, and just another example of collector greed gone mad.  But then I got pleasantly surprised when I saw that 95% of the proceeds of the sale will be going to CHARITY (http://www.missionfish.org/NPMMF/nphomepage.jsp?NP_ID=1271).  I know that some of us may snicker and giggle at members of the 501st in some situations, but I know that a lot of what they do revolves around charity work.  And seeing them auction this figure off for charity is just tremendous.  Especially considering what someone was willing to pay.  Hope the check doesn't bounce, Phil.  ;D
