Title: Custom decals for dioramas?
Post by: BrentS on May 1, 2006, 01:44 PM
Other than Nuib Nuib's site at Galactic Hunter.  Does anyone know where I can get Star Wars themed decals for custom/diorama purposes.  I'm looking for things like control panels, instrument panels, etc.

Thanks!

Maybe try contacting Owen D at www.owenscustoms.com, I think he makes a few...

Also http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/index.html is a good reference.

Depends what all you're on the hunt for Brent...

Erik Stormtrooper's site there has shoulder and helmet emblems and such.  I have his stuff saved because it's great.  It'd be nice if someone handy dandy with drawing and such would do up new ones like those.  EU logos and stuff.

Anyway, share anything you come up with that you're able to find Brent...  May be helpful to everyone.

So far, Erik Stormtrooper seems to be best resource.  I'm still looking though.  I'm really trying to find a decent decal for the interior of cockpit control panel.

I've seen a Testors custom decal kit at wal-mart. It comes with decal sheets and software to make your decals.

I'd avoid testors like the plague...  Their stuff's way overpriced.

Testors stuff is, if I'm not mistaken, water-transfer decal paper...  It's better IMO than messing with stickers personally, but it's a little more difficult to work with since you have to seal them and things to keep them from bleeding and whatnot.

There's cheaper places to get water-transfer decal paper though, no doubt.  Micro Mark carries it cheaper than Testors little kit...

Do you get a discount on his commissions, every time you post his URL? ;) Just kidding.

I've been on the look out as well for paper you can print on with a Laserjet printer. I remember a guy at Rebelscum who made clone logos on plastic stickers and sold them. Never knwe how he made them though...

There's clear sticker paper you can get about anywhere.  I think even K-Mart had it if I recall.  Simple printing, but I'm not a fan of the raised stickers on figures.  They don't look perfect to me for some reason...  Works on other things though.

People make stickers all the time though for other lines.  G.I. Joe in particular I see guys making replica stickers for beat up vehicles or new stickers for customs and such.  Very easy if you have a printer and sticker paper.  Water transfer decals are more involved but result ina more professional production look, as well as a higher realism if you go all out with them.  They can actually be made to bond to the plastic flawlessly.
