I have been placed in the team leader positon for the custom figures and vehicles portion of that project.

Heres where you come in. ;D I'm looking for capeable and qualifiied volunteers.

I'll gladly contribute several custom townsfolk, as well as some of my VOTC/SAGA2 troopers for the Imperial army. SO you can add me to your list. :)

Hopefully we will know something about the theme by weeks end, and we can get started from there.

I will be gathering up the info from all of you regarding Emails and Addresses and what not hopefully by the end of the week as well.

Feel free to start brainstorming about what you would like to see. And be sure to check out the other threads on this topic, and tell the rest of the guys what you would like to see.

I know this is way down the line but after seeing Chewie's Rykrof peasent.I had a thought.  No matter what the local,  I think we need to ensure that JD's most famous reoccuring character, Rykrof Enloe, makes an appearance somewhere in the diorama.

Don't worry guys I wouldn't dream of having this dio without him. So Chewie what do you say. Care to do a special edition Rykroff for the cause?
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.

Count me in for at least 2 or 3 townsfolk or whatever type of denizen we'll need.
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: CHEWIE on June 27, 2006, 10:52 PM
Well I'm extremely honored that you guys would consider that.  If you want, I could perhaps create a Rykrof and Freelo in peasant gear or something.

 :)

Damn, I'm so excited about this now that I made a custom fig today for it!  I just need to pick up some super glue to put on a couple pieces and he's done!  He's a sort of miner or other kind of physical laborer.  I'm pretty happy with the paintjob, as I combined a wash with a drybrushing to get an effect similar to the great stuff Chewie does!

Edit: does anyone think it would be a good idea to standardize which vehicle base(s) people can buy, and then customize different models from it?  For instance, everyone who will make a vehicle for this project could each buy the same GI Joe vehicle or some other currently available toy, and customize it to their heart's content, but it would still be recognizeable among each version since it has the same base.  Kind of like on Earth we have multiple types of 4-wheeled cars, but they're all recognizeable AS cars.

Sorry, I can't agree with this idea because I belive it stifles creativity. I say once we've decided on the types of vehicles needed. We let people run with it and come up with different concepts and then we can decide which concepts will be used. Remember not ever member has the same skill level so it would be nice if we had some simple customs that some of the less exsperienced members could work on. Another thing we might consider, is contributing fodder to memebers who may be more skilled at creating the type of customs needed. For instance if some one has a nack for making peasants, lets send him some farmboy looks to work with. LMK what you guys think.

Ennis what am I supposed to be making/doing right now? We won't even begin to work until they finalize the planet and how it'll look right? I haven't really been keeping up but it seemed a week or two ago everyone was just throwing out lots of random ideas and not really doing anything yet... Will you make sure to post when they give us some ideas on what kinds of figures to make and kind of assign a people to do certain things?

You are out of the loop. Didn't you read the Newsletter I PMed you. We decided on Glassmans Design. So go and read his description again, and start on things that would fit in. Laborers, peasents Rich folk. We also are trying to determine the Secrurity force. That is July's MCC, UGP securtity force. :) There is plenty to do. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

yeah CK, Smarty pretty much summed it up. But since he's the secretary I guess thats what hes for. :P (J/K)

As far as anything official is concerned the Security force is pretty much it right now. All the info is in the CCC thread. We will also probably be doing a Customs of us type of thing as well. For the "Jedi Defender" Cantina.

Other than that you can pretty much work on anything you want to.

I also want to back Fritzkreig on the UGP parts needs idea. Excellent idea there Fritz. BTW Fritz, my offer still stands anytime you want to take me up on it. Drop me a line.

I will be posting more info as soon as it becomes available.

Lol of course I'm out of the loop. I'm never good at staying up to date on things... but I still dont know what kind of figures would fit into a Datooine feel place because I don't know what Datooine is... uh yea. So any help?

And I'll try to come up with some kind of security personel but I don't have any of the common fodder bases like cloud car pilots/rebel dudes with helmets and stuff. Maybe my kind of security force has mando helmets ;D lol

I think before people start rushing out customs, we should wait till we have a set design on what certain factions will look like, I.E. Imperial Troops, unless I missed where it has been decided on what the storm/clone trooeprs will look like ;)

That was kind of what I was saying Joe. But everyone else is starting work so I guess Ill just do a plain street citizen and then once things geta  bit more clear on exactly the types of customs we need then Ill change work to those types.

This month's customizing challenge is to decide the winning security force design of the UGP.  Any citizens, though, should be fair game.  I do agree that the Imperial forces should have a set look though, and I'm thinking less color than the clones of Ep3.  Miseria, I like the look of your security team!
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: Commander_Miseria on July 10, 2006, 10:22 AM
except the security force, they were customs i was already making (the clone just happens to look terrible cause it was done at 3am  :P) No it hasn't been decided, but my theory was that individuality would be phased out and not abruptly pulled. At the last chat we were kinda talking about it and we also thought that if vader is overseeing the planet he would probably have the 501st there with him.  As for the Jedi, i was already getting an idea for the "ancient jedi/sith" challenge that didnt happen and i managed to get everything together so i just finished him.  :-\

Well, since I'm the one that told everyone they could start brainstorming customs I'm not really sure where the confusion is.

Now granted, the Sec force guys should have been posted in the Custom Challenge thread, I don't see a problem with them being posted here. After all, this is what this thread is for.

I like what ive been seeing so far. As a matter of fact, I may take that 501 idea he has there and run with it myself. Its a nice design. Good work on that CM.

As was stated before we discussed all of these things at the chat. If you didn't know about it, it means that you weren't there and that you should really try to make the next one.  ;D ;) :P

Well, I had to work last thursday and I work almost every sat... with that said, I think if certain ideas are agreed apon in the chat, then they should be outlined and posted somewhere so people can see them, not everyone is able to make it to the chat, and I'd like to really be a part of this, seeing I'll be at C4...

I personally would like to see cleaner clone/Stormtroopers with almost little to no "legion" paint markings... if there are then maybe a small group of the them, kinda like the last of their kind.. and then the rest all clean and white(of course, battle damaged and dirty cause of the environment would do too, but I just meant as far as "legion" markings).
Again, I wasn't at the chat, so could someone recap, I didnt' know Vader was gonna be there either :p

If you read, Glassmans background on the planet, Vader is in charge of the planet, so naturally the 501st is there.
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: Joerhyno on July 11, 2006, 11:40 AM
I guess I read it differently, as if Vader was just incharge of making sure the planet stayed under Imperial rule.. not an Appartment there with his homies for the 501st, lol.. but that's cool.. guess someone can put one of those 4,000Vaders to use that's come out after RotS  ;D

I think I prefer regular white Stormtroopers... preferably VOTC but I'm not sending mine!   ;D

We could use SAGA2 Sandtroopers though.

I think about 15-20 Stormtroopers sprinkled throughout the diorama would be best.  I really don't think it should be overcrowded, or it's overkill.  And if we have OT Stormtroopers, having clones mixed in will make it look kind of sloppy, at least in my opinion.

I prefer we use some OT Stormtroopers and a security force, and leave it at that.  A few Imperial Officers/Death Star Trooper type officers would be fine too.

 :)
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: Ryan on July 12, 2006, 01:23 AM
I'm with Justin on this one, I thought we wanted to set this much closer to ANH because of the 30th Anniversary. Meaning the troopers would be in plain old Stormtrooper armor with no markings or anything. The SAGA2 Sandtrooper would be a perfect choice for our basic troopers. We could mix in a few Scouts and NCOs here or there too.

I think 15-20 troopers won't be enough. I understand we need are going to have a small number because it isn't a strategically important planet and the local police take care of most of the work. But depending on the size of the diorama we are going to need a platoon of troopers or so. A platoon is 3 to 4 squads, for those of you who don't know. And a squad is made up of 8 to 12 troopers. So we are talking somewhere from 24 to 48 troopers. I think it'd be best to have a mid sized platoon with either 3 squads of 12 troopers (36) or better yet 4 of 8 (32.) I suppose it wouldn't even have to be even squad number, we could do 3 squads with 10 troopers and a fourth squad with 8 scouts that can be broken down into 2-4 teams. Or something like that.

As for officers and NCOs, we only need one officer, a lieutenant, as platoons are led by a single lieutenant. And each squad is led by sergeant. I think we could maybe base their uniforms off hemble's Imperial field officer from awhile back.

We can also have a few pilots and naval troopers if we really want to have a small naval presence. But based on what we are talking about, it doesn't seem like that will be the case. I'm kind of a military buff, so this kind of stuff really interests me. I think it be pretty cool to have a militarily accurate Imperial force. I've got several more ideas on how we could set all things military up, but I'll hold off for now and see what you guys think so far. :)

I made a very comprehensive concept for the security force officers last night. Unfortunatly a lightning storm took out my nieghborhoods phone lines and DSL. I'm told they won't get the problem fixed until Friday. I put the pics and the recipe up as soon as my DSL is back up. I tried to keep the design simple and used parts that are fairly easily obtained or substituted so that the custom can be easily replicated. I figure we are going to need a small squad of these guys to police the citizens. I'm also working on a Patrol Speeder.
which I'm  hopeing will be easily replicated. I get those pics up soon.

Joe that's a nice custom but really seems sort of GI JOE to me... kind of like a GI JOE Viper.  Is that where the idea came from?

Ryan, I remember Hemble's custom of that, it's great.  I made a Rykrof kind of like that a while back, but his version is better.

Good ideas so far guys and customs.  Let's be sure to add security force ideas to the Monthly Customizing Challenge thread.  I am also thinking about extending it into August if we don't have enough entries.

For the number of troopers, I think 24 or so would be great, as long as we can get them to be the same version.  I'd hate to have 5 Commtech Stormtroopers, 10 SAGA2 Sandtroopers, a VOTC Stormie and several of the buff versions.  It would just look so terrible.   :P

This is my concept for a security force officer for the UGP. I decided to keep the concept simple, using easily accessable parts, so it can be replicated. I wanted the Security Force Officer to have the look of a cop with some Imperial elements.

I like the Backstop Joe helmet (white one). Only problem with that one is you would have to make or have someone make casts. Where did the body armor come from? That might have to be cast also. Other than that I think he is a winner for security force IMO.

I'm not in the loop for everything we're doing for the UGP, But it's to my knowledge that it's taking place in between episodes 3 and 4, right? And as such, the imperial occupation will consist of troopers with clone trooper bodies and stormtrooper helmet, right? I think we should keep it this way, as This video retcons it :D. Watch it, it's so freaking sweet! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC3bqyq9QQY)

As far as the local security force; it's going to be very difficult to choose, as everyone has come up with such incredible ideas for it!

I was reading an article about how it works and they're using the latest technology for it. no loading times, no freezing up, and no sacrificeing of graphics to do so. no word on anything else about the game other than just that trailer. the running name for it is "Force unleashed", but it's not officially the name.

So I will be without a computer ofr at least another week, unless I can actually find the time to get out to the library. :'(

Ill try to keep in touch as best I can, but I hope to be up and running again sometime next week.

I do want to congratulate every one on the excellent Sec Force submissions, they all look great, I really cant pick a favorite. I will post more when Im not as pressed for time but this library computer has a time limit.

Cool Wookiee!  Today I finished an Ithorian missionary assigned to Udde to promote the message of peace.  Let's call him Worlon Loral.  He would probably be found in the city streets preaching the word to locals and visitors.

Edit: added some more brown to drybrush on, since he was a little too grey for my tastes.

Recipe: POTF2 Momaw with a grey painted skin (to appear old) with a slight wash and light brown drybrushes (tough to see in the pics unfortunately!)
The staff is the Saga2 version painted with details and the cloak is a Tatooine accessory set version soaked in green and cut down a bit.

Here was my idea for the native species to the UGP. I was thinking of a larger type humanoid. I picked up some base figures for my idea. They are Van Helsing figures and are about 5 inches. Here are some size comparison pictures with some figures I think everyone has:

They don't look all that bad together, but I was thinking on changing the heads for a more alien look to them. Would anyone have ideas for a look of the head to use on them?

If this sounds like something you guy want to do. I could even change the body or other customizers could help. I got a total of 7 figure for about $10 from ebay, so they are cheap to get. Even got a female figure, don't know her name. They also had a figure that was almost nude, which would make a good base for anything, slaves, add some armor for a guard, etc. Let me know what you guys think?

Personally I still don't like the idea of mixed scale figures at all. The base figures don't fit in very well with the Star Wars figures. The sculpts on them just aren't good enough and don't match up very well. The articulation style is different. It would take a whole lot of customizing to get them to fit in, and wouldn't be worth the extra effort IMO. Plus that means all the doors of the buildings will need to be built bigger.
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: roron corobb on August 9, 2006, 04:15 AM
The articulation is like the POTF2 style and now that bad. I think my pistures are bad. Anyway the sculpt is detailed, but I don't like the heads. That is what I think they need to be changed. About the doors on the building, only select few could stay the small size (Imperial only buildings). The doorways wouldn't be that much bigger, and as most doors are about half a foot taller than the user anyway in really life. I don't see that being a problem.

I can't remember if it was in this thread or in the monthly challenge for the sec force character, but someone suggested we can still use rejected designs in the UGP somehow.  I love that idea, and suggest we alter them somewhat so they don't appear to all be police people.  I think mine can easily be an engineer, starship technician, or maybe a radiation expert- especially without the gun in hand!  Due to the proportions of the POTF2 Garindan figure, he appears to be wearing a thick protective suit with the gloves and the chest blast shield I made.  Here are a couple more pics:

Hi, sorry if i haven't been involved in this project.  Just wanted to let you guys know that I like everything I see so far and to make an offer to the project.

How would you guys like some noghri citizens/warriors/assassains for the UGP (donated, up to four),  I am working on a custom sculpted and casted generic SA Noghri warrior.  So far I am in the sculpting stage and it will take 2 months or more to complete, but I gaurantee a quality product, with 2 head variations, a head styled after the Dark Force Rising version and the more recent short snout version seen in the clone wars graphic novels (bly, aayla secura on honogar)

The articulation is as follows

Ball jointed
Torso
Elbows
ankles
knees
head
thighs

swivel wrists

I have figured out how to cast ball joints and will share the technique later.

It would fit with the ROTS ANH timeline cause Vader vsited Honogar after the clone wars but before ANH.

If you are interested please PM me to work out arrangements, even if you would like some just for yourself (these will be sold however).  I'll try to post picks of the WIP when possible.

Just let me know your guys thoughts on this.

Thanks alot,

Just finished another for the UGP.  This guy is some sort of bounty hunter or soldier of fortune.  I imagine he'll be holding someone at gunpoint in a back alley of the town diorama.

Very cool bounty hunter there. I like the sculpted beard and the greedo outfit is nicely colored. Its very much like a new figure. I don't like the gems for eyes. If I were to do that, I would add a little bit of wire to make them look like sun glasses. From far away it just looks a little freaky to me.

Thanks guys- I may alter the hair a little so that he's less recognizable as a Luke head, and the gems were a way to further alter his look.  I can certainly change it though.

Psychedelic even! ;D

That guys is a great mix of parts & paint! And I'm diggin' the gem eyes - like a LOT, man. Like every time I look at them, they look cooler, man. Like they're sucking in my soul....

GAAHH!  Ok, maybe they do need to be tamed a liitle... I think the glasses / goggle idea is a good one. Either that, or I might try to embed them a little further into the skull ... so they have ... eyelids or something ....

Ok, here's a  newfigure I made for the junk yard idea we have been discussing some - I figure he might be the owner, or be a customer shopping at it.

head - POTF2 Bith
hands - POTF2 Bith
arms - Pirates figure
jacket - POTJ Rebel Fleet Trooper
torso - SAGA Elan Sleezebagano
legs - SAGA Elan Sleezebagano

Not sure how I feel about the length of this guy's arms... but I really like the leg choice (love the rips on his left leg), and the paint job rocks. I really like the soft dark tones of the vest & cuffs. Tho they kinda make me look for something that matches them on the legs....

Over all, he looks like he'd be right at home in dirtier areas of the city. And in a good way ;)

Yeah, the arms are kinda long.  I really don't even like the paint job on this guy.  I might scrap him and start over.

As promised, I worked on a couple more things for the UGP over Christmas.

Early Rebel Medical Droid

parts used -
head - SAGA2 Firespeeder Pilot Backpack
torso - SAGA Research Droid
left arm - SAGA Research Droid
right arm - SAGA Research Droid, two FX-7 appendages
legs - OTC IG-88

Early Rebel Probe Droid

parts used -
- two ROTS clone pilot "radar" dishes
- bust up Darth Maul base
- Y-Wing thruster
- vintage Sandcrawler droid

Rebel Trooper

- ok, I didn't make this guy... I got him from Jedistyle as part of the Secret Santa customizing thing we had going at Yakface.  Very cool figure, I think he can go in the UGP as a Rebel - what do you guys think?

Rebel Tank

- I didn't make this either - Owen D. made it for me a while back - I thought it would work out well for an early Rebel tank.  Do you guys agree?

These are all items (and many more) that I am planning on sending to Phruby in April, which I would like to get mailed back (I'll pay for shipping of course).

 ;)

great customs chewie!

-that early medical droid is awsome.

-the tracked probe droid is very cool, nice and bulky. looks very primative and hard used, definetley somthing the rebels would have to make work.

-the rebel soldier he's woking on is still cool, though the ammo on his bandolier would be more visable if they where a darker color, but still an awsome figure.

-that owend rebel speeder is just sick. owen does great work and that is a prime example, very nice.

-glad you got the rebel trooper for the secret santa. i've been wanting to know if you had gotten him yet or not. haven't really been able to check with yak being down!

The Rebel Trooper is AWESOME.  I also really like the backstory you created for him... I'll have to write it up and post it.  What a great figure... I always love your customs, but even more in person.  Wow.  Really outstanding work, I think your painting puts mine to shame.

I agree on the Rebel I made, I need to paint his bandolier thing better like you suggested.

Sorry about the Yakface forums.  It's out of our control right now, hopefully we'll have them up sometime this week.   :-\

Early Rebel Medical Droid
I actually really like the arms & color on this one - it looks like it belongs on a back-water world, in a good way ;)

Early Rebel Probe Droid
While I REALLY like what you did w/ the tracks & the radar dishes, I actually don't care for the color on this one - I look at it & keep finding myself expecting it to be painted up in multiple shades of brown, rust, and gray & gray/pink. Like a car made up of parts that all had primer applied by different people...  hope that made sense...

Rebel Trooper
Nice work 'Stylez! I dig the trooper mixed with arm & shin wraps. He's kinda dark, but still looks like he'd fit right in with some rebellious, down & dirty guerrilla fighters. Please do post the back story!

Rebel Tank
Er, actually, I hate to say it, 'specially seeing as how I usually like Owen's work, but I don't really care for it... I guess it's that the sides look too flimsy, and the over all shape it a little too simplistic for my taste... It's nice, but were it mine, (which it aint, of course), I'd maybe put some railing on the out side wall, (2 pipes, full side length, wrapping around to the back, one bigger than the other, smallest on top, just bellow the current side/back-handles), a canopy cover over the front, and maybe some comm equipment here & there...  But that's just my 0.02$

Over all, awesome stuff, I can't wait to see it all in action!
Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: CHEWIE on December 27, 2006, 04:22 PM
Thanks Pendragon... I think you are right, the probe droid looks too bright.  I think a lot of it is the flash.  Maybe if I take the pic of it against a lighter background, the droid itself won't absorb so much of the flash.  It's darker in person.  If I can't get it to look right, I might repaint it.  I appreciate your honesty!   ;D

On the tank, I personally love this thing.  It's so cool in person.  Maybe these pics here will illustrate it better, maybe not.

http://www.owenscustoms.com/rebelarmoredspeederpage1.html

I'm not too good on making vehicles, so to me this is really cool.  I like the simple look to it. If you guys don't want it as part of the UGP though, that's ok too!

 ;)

I appreciate your honesty!   ;D

:-[ I hope I wasn't too brutal there...  I do actually like these pieces  ;D And you know I think your paint jobs are top notch. I can just get lost in commenting on the details that catch me off guard.

And speaking of details,
This: (http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7259/ras1vn8.th.jpg) (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ras1vn8.jpg), this: (http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7178/ras5nt8.th.jpg) (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ras5nt8.jpg), and this: (http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7568/ras6oj5.th.jpg) (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ras6oj5.jpg)

To quote myself from the Yak:

Quote
HOLY CRAP. :o

Er, I mean, nice work Fritzy! :D

What a GREAT squad!

Rapid Repeating Blaster Rebel Trooper
I love that bash - what a killer mix of tech.... Just screams heavy duty repeater!
On the trooper: I like the use of the bbi legs, and the head you used (which I can't place) works pretty well - specially with the Endor helmet. I also like the placement of the Solo blaster. Very cool. Only thing I don't really care for is that particular assault vest. It seems to fit the torso fairly well, but I guess I just don't dig the style on the vest?

Rebel Sniper
Perhaps my fave outta the bunch. I love the guy's outfit, and the choice of that bbi head damn near perfectly conveys the right feel for your figure. Nice use of that gun too (tho I might add a little detail, or perhaps a black wash to it - again, just my preference). The sling looks awesome! Where'd it come from?
The outfit could make a great uniform for a small squad - like a militia made from the remnants of some planetary guard unit or.

Or hell, that could be the uniform of Judde Lulos' Guard Units, and this guy could be a deserter after the Empire came in and conscripted them....

Heavy Ordinance Rebel Trooper
I like everything ('cept the LAW - couldn't tell you why, it just bugs me a tiny bit - bulkiness maybe?). Anyway, I like the head choice, like the use of the helmet, like the pack, love the uniform (again), and love the shoulder pad & detail - truly awesome!

Great work here Fritzkrieg. I hope we get to see them at C4 8)

I need to see these guys with Chewie's droids - I think they'd go great together....

W :oW Fritz that is some excellent stuff. These guys look great. But nothing that I haven't come to expect from you. ;D I cant wait to see what else youve got coming. You really went above and beyond for these guys.

The Heavy Ordinance trooper is my fave of the bunch.as soon as I stop having issues with my photobucket account, I'm going to post all of the stuff I've made here.

I love them all fritz, they look awesome, But the heavy weapon launcher is a Javelin rocket launcher that the US military uses, it just look too earthy but there are several rocket launchers that can be  made from a marker and styrene.

In the the years following Emperor Palpatines formation of the First Galactic Empire, many Rebel groups began to form small resistance pockets across the many world of the Galaxy. Poorly equiped and under funded these groups had to make do with the raw materials at hand. Much of there equipment was liberated from Imperial garrisons. This Rebel speeder was nothing more than a burned out shell, the reminants of a Rebel ambush. Being resourceful, the Rebels on Judde Lulos refurbished the wreckage and added a few upgrades. Now a capable combat vehicle Dubed "Rusty Girl" the Rebels utilize her in quick strike and fade attacks on Imperial supply convoys.

This is a concept vehicle for the UGP, LMK what you think.

Here are two more UGP Rebel Concepts. I thought the idea of a Rebel Genral being the master tactician behind the Rebel insurgence on Judde Lulos would be a neat idea and add to the story behind the diorama. I also figured this guy would be very important to the Rebel Alliance so I gave him his own personal Wookie Body Guard. LMK what you think.

Genral Venron Graybel is a master battlefield tactician. A veteran of the Clone Wars he has seen more combat than any off the Rebel Allaince's Commanders and remains undefeated in his battles against Imperial forces. Because of his experience and battle field prowess Genral Graybel was deployed to Judde Lulos to mastermind the Rebel insurgence and free the planet from the Iron grip of the Empire. Always at his side his 300yr old Wookie bodyguard Kronaaca has seen a lot more combat and has the honor of being one of the few survivors of a confrontation with Lord Vader. He bares deep scars from that battle in wich he lost a hand. The Genral and his small band of Rebels have few resources but through determination and superior tactical skill they will give the Empire one hell of a nose bleed.

Here is another vehicle concept for the UGP. LMK what you think.

The SC-ST(Sentinal Class Security Transport) is used throughout the glaxay by terran security forces to patrol their cities. Not considered robust enough for military applications the are primarily used for police actions. Although it is a walker transport, the SC-ST imploys two jump jets to hop over city traffic and buildings for quick response when a situation arises. The armaments of the SC-ST include two side mounted blasters and a multifunction non-leathal modular cannon that can be fitted with a quid net despenser, stun cannon, or an ion cannon. The Security force on Judde Lulos deploy several antiqueted SC-ST's to patrol their cities and maintain order. They are sorely outgunned by the local Rebel insurgence and are quick to call in assistance from the Planets Imperial Garrisons when thing get to hot.

Jedistyle- those are awesome!  I especially love the Yak Face!  Just wanted to leave a note that I sent off my first 6 figures to Master Phruby today.  He graciously offered to store them until C4.  You other guys might want to contact him about sending your figures if you're not going.

Hey y'all
I don't mean to take up to much space but I just wanted to show you what I've bee up to. The first is part of my contribution to Niub's workshop. I casted it myself but I screwed up the paint job. I got to fix the right hand eye. Personaly I think the pic is too good in that it also show a lot of flaws but I know I can do better. The other pics you will recognise are that of an orray. 95% sculpey,3% paint 2% leather.

Don't get too down on yourself, the UGP stuff hasn't been stirring much lately, plus most people have been busy with the Toy Fair news.

The Orray looks AWESOME!  Is that scratch built?

I had a few bears last night. It does not mix well with forums.

Damn dude.  Bears?  I wouldn't think they'd mix well with anything except other bears.  If I were to resort to the animal world for love and companionship, I'd probably choose something a little more docile than a bear.  Like, an alpaca or donkey or something.

Did you come away with any injuries?

And, were you to the left, or right of this camera view?  Or, God help us all, beneath!?

 :)

Okay, okay.

PS:  That orray is fantastic.  It makes me want to grab a hunk of clay and sculpt a couple myself so I can mount some geonosians on it and prod the Reek and Acklay into the arena.  Nice job.

I really liked a similiar recipe I saw for a Jedi Weequay, and thought it would make for a great UGP Denizen. I thought about Modding the gun but I really liked it just the way it was, and it looked bizzar enough to fit into the Star Wars Universe, I figured, so I left it alone. LMK what you think.

good looking weequay fritz. simple but cool and would be great for a street walker or cantina chiller. i also like that gun for some reason.  :D

here is another jedi i put together. she wasn't done for the UGP but chewie suggested at yak that i submit her for one of the fugitive jedi in the ugp. so here she is. i do realize that she is very "traditional jedi style", no pun intended, so if she isn't quite right for the UGP, my feelings won't be hurt. so let me know what you guys think! :)

Jedi master Bii-Trow was in the Jedi Temple when "Order 66" was issued. She is gifted with remakably powreful healing skills and was tending the wounds of several Jedi that had just come back from battle across the galaxy when Darth Vader and the 501st marched into the temple. Master Bii-Trow fought bravely against the clone trooper of the 501st, trying desperatly to evacuate the wounded Jedi she was tending. Despite her best efforts and all her Jedi skills, she barely managed to save her self and 2 of the 6 wounded Jedi. Master Bii-Trow and her Jedi bretheren made thier way through the crumbling temple and hoards of troopers to escape to the underbelly of Courosant, where they were able to barter passage of planet before the Jedi were denounced as "traitors" to the Republic. The current whereabouts of Bii-Trow and her fellow Jedi are unknown.......

Thera Yarint was a Jedi Padawan during the fall of the Republic. Here Master was killed on a Critical mission and she was transported back to the Jedi Temple. During her Treatment at the Jedi Temple, Thera was assited by the hands of Jedi Master Bii-Trow, an incredibly gifted Jedi Healer. During her recovery, the Temple was attacke by an ominus dark cloaked jedi who Therawas unable to identifiy and the 501st. Clone Trooper liegon. The Healer Master Bii-Trow fought valienty against the onslaught of Clone Troopers and was able to save the lives of a small group of Jedi, including Thera. after escaping the Temple Massacare, the remaining Jedi parted ways and left Courasant. Thera scavanged her way across the Galaxy in a hard life, finally linking up withan Anti-Imperial Group on Dantooine. She became a hardline activist , participating in military action against the Empire including sabatoge and raid mission. She is no on the Empire's Black list of Rebels, though her current whereabouts are unknown..........

Fritz, the parts look great!  I wonder if painting over the striping on the Rodian will make it just a bit less Pirate-ey.  Maybe even a different hair color for the Orlando head (that IS Orlando, isn't it?).

I just finished an Imperial officer for probably the inner city.  He's made from a ROTS Tarkin body and a Veers head, and I painted it all black.  I think it worked well because it has the boots from ROTS era, which phased out sometime around UGP time probably.  I also have a Sandtrooper to donate which I painted with some terrain wear; hopefully it can fit in outside the city walls with the other troops and Fritz's great Imp customs.  Side note:  I have 2 citizen WIP customs I hope to finish this weekend.

Thanks Deanna and Patreek.  No primer, just 2 full coats of black!  I'm going to try to get the 2 citizens up by tomorrow.

Edit: here are the 2 citizens.  I hope you like her; I thought she could be a Judde Lulos native upper class denizen.  You can't see it in the pics, but she has a light wash of green on the lower cape suggesting someone who likes to take strolls outside the city walls  ;D.  The recipe is POTF2 Endor Leia with her skirt rotated, a POTF2 Garindan cape, and a ROTS Mothma head crown.  Everything is re-painted of course.  The man could be an early rebel leader (he started as a Yavin leader and I repainted him) or just a citizen.  He's made from a POTF2 Bespin Luke body, POTF2 Endor Han cape and head, and sculpy hair.

I like her a lot - and the guy too, though he seems a bit POTF2-ish.  But that's probably ok.  You did a good job with the hair sculpting, looks nothing like a Han head now.  And I like the neutral look these characters have - very much what I'd expect to see on this planet.

Also - I'm working on what I think will be an awesome Jedi to face off against Vader...

 :P
Title: Finalizing Decisions on Figures, Vehicles, & a Plot Line - READ ASAP FOLKS!!!
Post by: CHEWIE on March 29, 2007, 03:47 AM
Hey guys, I would like to discuss with you some final decisions on some specifics with the Rebellion theme that is going to go in with the UGP.

JEDI FIGURES

There will be three Jedi in the diorama - all facing off against Vader.

First, this one by Jedistyle -

And second, this other Jedi by Jedistyle (if he is willing to send it) -

Here's the two Jedi I plan on contributing -

--------------------------------

REBEL FIGURES

I have talked with Ryan about this quite a bit, and we are thinking we only want about 6 or so Rebels in the whole diorama.  This diorama is for an Imperial dominated world that has a firm grip.

That being said, the Rebels are there for a reason - have we established this reason yet?  I'd like to work on a small plot line that we can add into the website description, with a mission a small group of Rebels is working towards completing - to steal plans for a rumored Imperial super weapon (but not to mention the Death Star).  A while back we had talked about having Rykrof Enloe in the diorama - I'd really like to add him in as leading the Rebel group - but no other photonovel characters from my series, just Rykrof...

...then, while the Rebels are trying to break in and steal the plans, a group of Jedi are sent in to distract the Imperials and Vader, giving the Rebels a chance to find the plans (which obviously they don't - they are either captured, die, or escape).  The Jedi squaring off against Vader will be in one part of the city, while in an alley the Rebels fight for their lives against a group of Stormtroopers... thoughts?  Then we have an actual plot line behind the city... and we can even print this on sheets and laminate them and have them in front of the display.  Of course we'd want to word it a lot better than I have!

As for the Rebels, I would like to incorporate the following Rebels into the diorama that Fritz has made -

(http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u27/Order66Customs/Rebels2.jpg) (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/Fritzkrieg/MonCalAdv3.jpg) (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/Fritzkrieg/RebelSniper.jpg)

Fritz has made some GREAT Rebel concepts and I think should be applauded... on the other ones not shown, I am not saying they shouldn't be used, but personally I think these four are the best ones - it's the color selection used and I just see them as fitting in better than some of the others that have so much more green to their outfits (almost like they have too much of a GI JOE feel to them?).

Now this guy I like too - but without all the extra accessories (I'd just give him an Endor helmet) -

What do you guys think about those 5 being the main Rebel Force, and adding a Rykrof Enloe to the mix as part of the group?  Fritz, if I send you a head of Rykrof, could you make one in this outfit -

Now, for Security Forces - I believe Fritz has really made the only Security Forces so to speak -

I say we stick with these guys... Fritz, any chance you can make two more of these guys?  Four altogether might be enough.

--------------------------------

REBEL VEHICLES

For the Rebels, the leaders have chatted some lately and we're considering either NO rebel vehicles, or just one, because the Rebel presence is so small... which should it be if we go with one rebel tank?

OR

I suppose we could throw those two guys in the tank if needed?  Remember that the tank would be out in the woods - not breaching the city walls.

--------------------------------

IMPERIAL FIGURES

Unless something falls through, for all intents and purposes, Darth Anton is providing the entire Imperial troops (to my knowledge).  There is no need for anyone else to bring Imperials at all, other than this custom Imperial by Daigo-Bah - which will go next to a Vader that I am providing -

--------------------------------

IMPERIAL VEHICLES

Now, here's what we think we need:

MECH WALKER - Now, I can send mine, or maybe Fritz can send one of his.  But I think only one of us should - our painting styles are very different and would cause a lack of uniformity in the Imperial ranks.

Here's mine -

And a recent one by Fritz -

Fritz - this is your call - if you want to send yours, I won't send mine.

IMPERIAL HOVER TANK - Again, Fritz and I have very different styles and I think they are too differnet to mesh well.

Here's my version -

And here's one by Fritz (Rob, I'm not sure if you have any of these still or not though) -

So, if you have one you want to send, I won't send mine - just let me know.

We also need an AT-ST - I kind of want two in the diorama, one in the city and one out in the terrain.  We prefer to use this one from the POTJ line, and don't want one with pealing off stickers... wondering if Darth Anton will let us borrow one of these -

Finally, looks like going to go with 6 BARC Speeders, a bit of a throwback to the Clone Wars era instead of using speederbikes.  I have 6 that are from the new Saeulimaci (sp?) battle pack that I'll be sending.

--------------------------------

NATIVE SPECIES

I have a few of these creatures, they are a little smaller than a Star Wars figure - they can sit on the city walls.

--------------------------------

CITIZENS/DENIZENS

We have lots so far... but keep cranking out more folks if you can!  We can definitely use some more Arcona species!  Also maybe some Gran, Ishi Tibs or Hammerheads.

--------------------------------

PUBLIC TRANSPORTS

I can send this and it can be a regular citizen speeder instead of Imperial -

However it doesn't have the droid head anymore (but still looks great without it - it was never glued on).  There are Imperial markings, maybe the residents there use Imperial public transportation.

--------------------------------

That's it for now... PLEASE POST YOUR THOUGHTS ON ALL OF THIS GUYS!  We can't diddle daddle any more on this... I've been committed to what I can for a while, and still am, but as for me constructing much more, after I finish what I am doing on the wall and the large tower, I'm pretty much out of the construction phase.  I've known this for a while and have been up front about it - I'll still be around for questions/ideas/promotions/etc.

Wow, a lot to digest...

Jedi -

I agree with everything you said Chewie.  I say use the 3-4 figures mentioned

Rebels -

I agree - the rebels from Fritz should be used (exclusively).

Rebel Vehicles -

I vote for NO rebel vehicles.  I just think with only 6 rebels, we don't need a vehicle.

Imperials - I like all the imperials you mentioned.  If I selected one troop "tank" I'd go with Chewie's design.  I'm just not crazy about the big tank gun on Fritz's piece.  I love all the Mech Walkers.  I also think that Darth Anton had a significant Stormtrooper and Imperial allotment that he was going to donate.  We need them all.

AT-ST - I'd love to see these in the diorama.  It would be nice to borrow them from someone local.

Something not on your list - Inhabitants.  Do we need to start a separate thread with inhabitants?

Well the first 2 Rebels have already been designated as Order66Customs projects. So unfortunatly they will not be available for the UGP. I would be more than happy to make a Rykroff Rebel but I'll need another pair of the BBI Legs if you want that recipe. The Rebel Heavy Ordanance Trooper looks like he's been cut in half without his gear I'd rather not use him with out his gear. I do have another head like that one and can use it on one of my other UGP rebels in his place. I would also really like to see at least one rebel wearing the Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet to mix it up a bit.

Kronaaca didn't make the cut! :-[
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/Fritzkrieg/wookie6.jpg)

I currently have no Imperial Tanks but I can make another one for the UGP. I do however have an Imperial Speeder if you'd like one of those in the dio.

I have fodder for several more Strike Mechs but none a ready yet.

On the Security Force I have enough Saw Viper helmets to build an army of these guys but as stated before, I need more Saga Imperial officer or AT-ST Driver bodies to make more.

I am a little disapointed in the lack of Imperial Custom figures. I was really hoping this project would showcase the full spectrum of the customizing community and Imperial customs are a huge part of our body of work. How about adding some diversity to our Imperial Forces. Some Imperial commandos or some unique field commanders would make for a more interesting Dio.

Hey guys - we can definitely discuss this more - these were just my personal preferences, and I talked with Ryan a bit about it the last couple days at we had come to some basic agreements - but if anyone wants to give other views - please do...

Pendragon - The thought process behind the small size of the Rebels is that the Imperials are in total command of this planet, though maybe we could increase the number a bit.  If we add on the Wookiee and General that I refer to below that Fritz made - that increases us to about 8... think that will suffice?

Fritz - that Wookiee was supposed to be on the list of Rebels - I screwed something up.  There was a pic with him and another Rebel that I thought should both go into it...

Here it is -

PLEASE add them to the mix... they are awesome!  I really didn't mean to leave them off at all.

For the guy that has the cannon, can you paint the cannon some?  I think that's what's throwing me on the figure - If it were black or gray, I think it would look less like a GI JOE weapon, which is the only thing that bugs me about it.  Is that ok?

On these guys, is there any way to replicate them at all?  If you need the parts I'll send you some money or I might even have the parts you need (I have a lot of BBI figures).  I think they are by FAR the best Rebels you've made, just truly great.  I might even have to make a bid on them.   :)

For you wanting to make more Security Guards - I can send you two POTJ Imperial officers... sound good?

On vehicles, do you have a pic of the Imperial Speeder?

Also how about I send my Imperial Tank, and you make a mech walker or two, and I'll hold onto mine?  Would that be ok with you?

For Imperials - I think that some of us are wanting to really get a feel of what we see in ANH - very strict, standardized Imperial uniformity in terms of troops... meaning that there's not commando Stormtroopers or anything like that... this planet, after all, is for all intents and purposes a purely Imperial world - commandos and the sort would probably be deployed more on worlds that are at war/etc.  Make sense?  I hope it does... we will have lots of Imperial Officers, Scout Troopers, and Imperial Technicians at least.

For City Denizens - Brent is right, we need to discuss some more.  In about a week I should have a good idea on what I can send - anywhere around 50 custom background citizens perhaps... and I'll take new pics of everything and post them before I mail them off.

Another thing - the DROID JUNKYARD that we had discussed some... do you guys want this included still?  I think it would be really cool.

Chewie,

Thanks for the fooder offer, I'll PM you my address so ypu can get that stuff to me.

Here the pic of my Imp Speeder
I moded the Top Gun though
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/Fritzkrieg/ImpcarA4.jpg)

On the heavy ordanace Trooper
I have no Problem Modding the Gun, I'd love to see this guy posed taking a Shot at an AT-ST.

It's funny that you prefer the Rebels I through together with leftovers in 20 mins over the ones I spent more effort on. If you can get me more of those BBI pants I can replicate this pretty easily. I'll have to double check and see if I have enough Endor Helmets. Do you guys like the guns? They are just cropped SAWS.

I'm going to test the waters with a couple of Standard uniformed Imp. Customs and see if you guys want to use them.

I love the Idea of a driod Junkyard!

Sorry for the lack of picts, but since there's no real challenging customs you can get the mental picture. ;)

I'll be submitting 2 Platoons (72 troops)

1st Platoon (36)
- Stormtroopers, Votc
2nd Platoon
- 1st Squad,  Imperial Troopers (9) TAC wave 2 (if I'm lucky by C4 time)
- 2nd Squad,  Scout Troopers (9) Vtsc
- 3rd Squad,  At-St Drivers (9) Saga 2
- 4th Squad
- - 1st Team,  Black jumpsuit officers (4) POTJ Imp officers
- - 2nd Team,  Grey jumpsuit techs (4) Han At-St bodies with Imp officer heads
- - Commanding Officer,  Black tunic officer (1) similar to Chewie's custom above.

Right here Glassman -

They're only $4.99 each, so it might be easier to just buy a few?

I was thinking of modifying them a bit to make them more starwars alien and less dino.

Maybe horns or spikes done the spine, or one eye or a second head.... something?

Personally I think that they are fine as is, but maybe there could be some sup-species that have evolved slightly differently and would have the horns or spikes. A couple differt ones could look good. Maybe we could have 1 in a tree, one by the cliffs, 2 on the city wall, and one on a building somewhere?

Well, maybe we don't even need firefighters, it's not like there's going to be a fire in this that they're putting out...

Here's my latest for the figures -

JEDI MASTER CARTAS AURELIUS - a Jedi Surivivor that will square off against Vader in the UGP diorama at C4.

head - 21st century (I think)
hood - Bust Up Darth Sidious
torso - Pirates Sao Feng
arms - Pirates Sao Feng
tunic - SAGA2 Kitik Keedkak
legs - POTJ Darth Maul

I hope he looks ok, and enough "Force Unleashed" style.

Everything looks so great!  I think upping the rebels to 8 is a great idea, and that wookiee NEEDS to be in there!  If we go with Chewie's green rebel transport, then perhaps Fritz's imperial colored vehicles can be utilized within and outside the city.  We are going to need a similar thread for buildings and structures, by the way.

I thought the rebs were in the midst of attacking? Did I miss something? Cuz this is where I was getting the Q about only having 6 (or even 8 for that matter) rebels. And all but 2 are human? And those all ware the same uniform?

I guess, the more I see of this plan, the more it feels like (except for some anachronistic jedi) post-Hoth rather than pre-Yavin.

I think it seems very pre-Yavin still... I'm sure there's some non human Rebels defying the Empire prior to Hoth.

There are some Rebels in the midst of attacking, that's not being taken out by any means.  Just not a full scale assault.  It's more of a rag tag group of Rebels, and they're not all in the same uniform - I'm seeing similarities but not a consistent outfit like we see the Rebels wearing in the OT.  Did you want them to all be of the same uniform or different?  I'm not sure I'm understanding what you're aiming at here - uniformity or individuality?  Right now it looks like only a couple of them are in the same uniform.  If they were all to be the same, it looks to me like we'd have to make up a whole new batch of Rebels.

I agree, the Wookiee is a must for the diorama (I think the Mon Cal is too).  And I'm thinking 8 or so Rebels in the city is the way to go, along with 4 Jedi in a different area facing Vader.

If we go with the green Rebel speeder, it would definitely need to be outside the city walls like you said.

Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: PenDragon on March 30, 2007, 04:11 PM
;D Sorry - trying to do too many things at once. I'll try to keep my thoughts a bit more ... cohesive ;)

My first concern is that most of the rebs are human. (The human to 'other' species ratio has nothing to do with the feeling of post-Hothiness. It's more the uniformity of the rebels' looks & use of an ATST/ATAT that's giving me that take on it.) I'd love to see more non-humans. Especially ones that didn't look similar in dress to the Fritz's rebs.

This brings up my second concern. This being that the humans & calamari all look enough alike. It feels like they might as well be from an established millitary. I could get behind the exclusive use Fritz's rebels if they didn't look like they all came from the same former military organization (in that they may have different ranks or different jobs, but they all seem to have the same colors & style). So, way more individuality would be something that I'd love to see.

These guys just don't scream rag-tag, assembled from different back-grounds, proto-rebels to me. As a force unto themselves anyway.

The exceptions here being the Wookie & the 2 commandos. They, at least, look different enough. The wookie is wicked awesome - I agree he should definitely be part of it. But the rebel commandos look far too much like comic book Rebel Commandos (in fact, I have two comic-book inspired rebel commandos on the back burner that use a similar recipe to what Fritz has here). So, as different as they look, those 2 just don't do it for me.

My third, final ("thank god, maybe he'll shut up soon"), but most nagging concern is that I can not seem to make myself believe that a band of 6 rebellious military types would ever bring on a mini-assault. Even when backed by 4 Jedi , they'd use stealth, not a hover APC. (On a side note, I thought that 3 jedi was a little much. 4 seems like it's starting to wander into overkill - to me anyway :-[ )

The only way I can seem to make this work in my head, is if a huge group of rebs got together and staged an all-or-nothin'  "lets destroy the Imperial Command Center" kinda shindig.

Unless maybe the Rebs were being held prisoner & the Jedi staged a hit & run rescue. Or, vice versa. Or perhaps your Beat-to-heck Jedi is the prisoner, and the rebs busted down the gate with the help of the other Jedi, and are making a hit & run rescue.

Anywho, there may be a lot of words in my post here, but it's still only my 0.02$ so take it for what it's worth ;)

Well,

That was a lot to digest. When I designed my Rebels I kind of invisioned them as a small harrassment force put together by a newly formed Rebelion. This groups main function was to disrupt the flow of resources to the empire. They don't have to be a large force because their mission is not to completely rid the planet of the imperial garrison but to bog it down using guerilla tasctics. Just another wrench wedged in the cogs of the Imperial machine. The speeder was designed to be an improvised peice of equipment salvaged from a wrecked Imperial speeder not a piece of standard issue Rebel equipment. When the idea of a Force unleashed theme was introduced I had to reimagine how my Rebels would fit into this theme. Considering there mission I figured, they could have learned that a Jedi or a small group of Jedi was pinned down or captured by the Imperials and the Genral decides that rescueing some of the few remaining Jedi in the Galaxy takes priority over there current mission.

That's how I imagined the Rebels fitting into this project. But I'll go along with the majority on how the would best fit in.

Well, personally I really like look of the Rebels that have been made and like the fact that they have a somewhat uniform look - but there are some differences.  We could just say the Rebels were from Correlia or something and that should cover why they look similar.

Ryan and I have had a few discussions about this, and we are thinking we only want a small group of Rebels in the whole diorama.  This diorama is for an Imperial dominated world that has a firm grip.

That being said, I started thinking that the Rebels are there for a reason - I don't think we've 100% established this reason yet?  A couple days ago I started working on a small plot line that maybe we could add into the website description and also have laminated and mounted on all sides of the display (at the bottom of it)

The description I was thinking of is something like this -

It is a period of darkness.  The Jedi Order has become all but extinct under the might of the Galactic Empire.

A small band of Correlian Rebels, allied with a group Jedi survivors, have infiltrated the Imperial stronghold JUDDE LULOS.  During the attack, the Rebels have attempted to steal secret plans to a new Imperial super weapon, rumored to be nearing the final stages of construction.

As the Rebels find themselves surrounded by Imperial Stormtroopers, the Jedi are confronted by the Emperor's apprentice, the dreaded Darth Vader.  It soon becomes clear to the small band of freedom fighters that their efforts to restore liberty to the galaxy have failed....

Of course we could change the words a lot, that's just what I came up with just now.  I think it would be great to have something like to describe what is actually going on in the diorama... make sense?

Well,

That was a lot to digest.

Yeah, I can get wordy ;)

Oh, and for the record, I think your rebs are beautiful looking Fritz  ;D

Anywho, I just got to thinking about the already established story - the one that (I thought) won the rights to the Official UGP background in the Vote for Planet Story (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=12943.msg240330#msg240330) thread.

And I've been trying to keep with in that paradigm. I mean, heck, it's the opening scroll to our web site (to be launched Monday if all goes well). To bring it back & also try to answer your question, Chewie:

Story 9:

Judde Lulos (The Empire's Jewel)...
When Separatists got word of the existence of this world, they secretly provided the native rebels with weapons and training to hopefully overthrow the imperial command center. Doing so would provide a great resource of credits for the growing rebellion against the Empire….

Please understand that all of my concerns are all based on trying to stay true to Glassman's winning story. If that story is no longer the official story, or Glass doesn't care, then I must have missed something and should have read more carefully. And I apologize for rockin' the boat or causing any ill will.   :(

Thanks on the custom Jedi guys, but I have to say that Jedistyle made a Force Unleashed style custom Jedi that is just awesome -

Anyways, Pen - I'm not trying to change the theme of the diorama at all.  There's been a lot of discussions lately that I guess should have been done publically between a few of the designated leaders and we've come to some agreements on a few things, like a limited number of Rebels for example.

I don't know, I just think it's a lot easier to change a few things here and there and try and be as flexible as we can as we are creating physical pieces to this project.  It's a lot easier to tweak a general idea here and there to accomodate the physical aspect of creating customs, landscape, buildings, walls, etc.  I don't think we're getting away from the theme at all, I just think it is evolving some, and has to in order for us to get this project ready in time.  We have so much to do and need to have all the pieces in Phruby's hands by May 1st.  So going and trying to make more Rebels now when we have some that really seem to fit the bill to me, is a little bit hard - we need to concentrate on buildings and the sort at this point or I'm afraid we'll have a diorama of customs, not really of a "city."

Now if Glassman or anyone wants to try and stay completely true to the original vision, then by all means we should discuss.  But things have evolved quite a bit on this project and I am sure more things are going to change here and there each week moving forward as we realize what is and is not realisitic.  Really, the idea for the theme was almost an entire YEAR ago.  Some small things have changed - we also wanted to have a native species with 4 arms that are miners, but realized later on that we couldn't do that.  Some ideas are fantastic but may not be as practical as we'd like.  I totally understand what you are saying in your points, but I mean we're still doing the planet basically in the same theme, are we not?

Fritz - when you are talking about Imperial custom that look like THAT, I agree 100% with you.  The more stuff like that we have the better - but if we start creating fan fic designs of new troopers and stuff - that's what I think we need to avoid at this point.   That officer looks wonderful and would be a fantastic addition to the project - for sure!

Anyways, I'll jump on here again soon I hope to discuss further, but I am in the process of moving over 2,000 loose figures and vehicles, not to mention 7 giant metal shelving units to the basement this weekend (finally got the carpet put into the basement today, thank God).  I have to get it done and start on the baby room immediately.

Jesus PenDragon, you're a pain right in the ass.  ;)

I like CHEWIE's description, but I'm in the same boat that feels perhaps we should have 2 Rebel teams attacking. Perhaps a hit and run squad in a hover tank or on swoops, and then the aforementioned 6 elsewhere.

Pendragon - Phruby, Glass, Ryan and I basically shot each other a lot of PM's this past week, that's all it was.  Your points are very well noted though and we can certainly discuss and see what we can do for sure.  Thanks on the Jedi, I hope it looks ok for the project.

Famine - I like the idea of Swoops a little more than a hover tank just because this strike team would probably not have the resources to get a tank, or get it close to the city without it being destroyed before it even got close... maybe Swoops though on the outside of the city?

Am I the only one worried about the Citizen to Imperial ratio on this project?

Without posting pics, can we get an estimate on who is bringing what along the lines of citizens? We've got so many damn imperials I can only hope we'll have enough Joe and Jane customs to fill the streets and such.

I personally can guarantee 7 Citizens right now, without making any customs between now and then. I will be making more, though.

Who else is sending citizens, and how many?

That's a very good point that you are raising.

I've got a lot of sorting to do in the next week Kevin since I'm having to move my whole collection right now, but I think I can send anywhere from 30-50 custom citizens (most are just past customs I've made of generic background characters).  I know I've already got a lot boxed up ready to ship to Phruby.

I am. Hence my stance against using more than 6-8 Rebels, and against using any Imperial customs other than Daigo-Bah's and this latest one from Fritz. The way I see it the time spent on every Imperial custom is time that could have been a citizen or two. Part of the reason we took Anton's army was so that we wouldn't have to worry about any Imperial customs, the other part is so we actually have Imperials that look alike.

Just for reference: At the moment there are 483,791 Coalition and Iraqi troops in Iraq. Iraq has a population of 26,783,383. That's a ratio of approximately 55.4 civilians for every 1 trooper. We would need about 3988.8 civilians to match that.... Granted this right on the hub of the military base so we can get away with fudging that ratio a bit since we are concentrated on just this one heavily militarized area. There would be a bunch of civvies just outside the diorama, in the surrounding city. But we still need the civvies to outnumber the Imperials at least 2:1 better yet 3:1 or 4:1. Meaning we have to get cracking on civilian customs and stop all together on all Imperials. 4:1 means 288 civvies, which may be a bit unrealistic, but I think we can hit between 216 and 144. So anyone working on Imperials for this project needs to stop now at switch to civilians.

Also as to why I wanted so few Rebels...

It is estimated that there are 13000-17000 insurgents in Iraq, that makes a 1575.5:1 ratio of Rebels to Civilians and a 28.6:1 Trooper to Insurgent ratio. Based off that we SHOULD have 2.51 Rebels. But since that is ridiculously small we can have a few more. This small group would have no access whatsoever to heavy armor, and as such would have no business even attempting a frontal assault on the city. I could maybe see a rebel swoop or two, but no armor. The Rebels need to be able to blend in with the crowd, they don't stand a chance at any tactic other than guerilla warfare. And if this is still early on between Episodes 3 and 4, the Alliance has little to no organization and very little manpower. More reason to have no logos of any kind on the rebels. And their cloths need to be fairly inconspicuous as well, so I don't particularly like and of the fleet trooper helmets. They need every advantage they can get without the numbers or technology of the Empire. A big white helmet in the middle of the forest might as well be a bright orange vest that hunters wear. Not the kind of advantage they are looking for. I think a small party (3-4) ambushing a small Imperial patrol in the wilderness and maybe a few (3-4) in the city is plenty. There could be more rebels if this was part of a large attack but they would be in other parts of the city away from the main base here, avoiding the main gate. Perhaps they could be creating a diversion for the Jedi we will have who are attempting to get to the Imperial Command center, and destroy it. More rebels beyond the 6-8 is overkill. Oh and Fritz I agree with Chewie that the Heavy ordinance Rebel looks better without most of the gear. The accessories just look too GiJoe to me, I think it is mainly the heavy weapon; the other parts sans the white helmet are fine. Like Chewie said go with an Endor helmet here. And maybe you could remove the Rebel logos from all the arm pads.

I don't need to explain vehicles anymore as Justin did a good job presenting what we talked about and no one really seems to have a problem with those numbers.

I have several civilian types already made to contribute as well, at least 6 maybe 10. And I will be making more too hopefully I'll send around 15.

Oh, BTW, I vote on replacing jedistyle's first custom Jedi (The four armed one) with his newest Force Unleashed style Jedi. The four armed Jedi feels more traditional and pre-Order 66 style. It still is a fantastic figure I just think the new one fits what we are going for with the Force Unleashed theme.

We don't have any kind of species bans in effect I don't believe. Droids are more than welcomed too, as long as we don't have excessive numbers of them.

Good to hear Sarge. Some of those feel a little too much like GiJoe, or POTF2 figures, when I look at them, but that might just be me. Looking at all those I think we could use any of the following:

Alsowana D-Ukalero; Mercenary
Bria Tharen; Bounty Hunter
Ca Vel Gulad; Miner
Cam Bison; Bounty Hunter
Eeva Malkah; Moisture farmer
Grautoo; Entrepreneur
Kedim; Socialite
Lissa Karan; Smuggler
Clecur Piuta; Entrepreneur
Comac Jaroslav; Political Activist
Fee Decinus; Entrepreneur
Icyl Naquid; Senate Aide
Leek Madra; Confederate Operative
Norval; Opera Promoter
Rahel Gimsa; Industrisist
Dathagnde; Smuggler
Shors; Pilot-for-hire

Again that's just my opinion so we shall have to see what the others leaders think.

In spite of being ordered to do otherwise I decided to make some more  UGP Imperials. I really think that we need to add custom troopers as well. Lets face it Star Wars fans love troopers and we as customizers love to make them. Just look at the responses you get from a cool trooper custom compared to the responses you get from a Jedi or alien custom.

They are definitely very fantastic figures Fritz.

I just think we don't need them and we are wasting our time making them. We only have one month until all these have to be shipped. I explained this more in the Finalizing Decisions sticky thread but we need citizens. Darth Anton has been kind enough to supply us with a full army so we have more time to devote to civilian customs. If anything we shouldn't have ANY trooper customs and maybe we'd have a few officers. But based off the five custom Imperial officers we now have, we'd already be about done. We don't want more than 72 Imperials but we also don't want to break down the sqaud structure and have too many officers. We really need to do something about the Civilian to Trooper ratio, and building Imperials is going in the wrong direction.

I basically bowed out for a little while due to the extreme lack of response to just about anything I tried, and if you don't beleive me look at the challenge threads I started.

Are we gonna do this or not. And If I start something will I get any reaponse. If there is no cooperation then there is no point in me even being a group leader.

Well Ryan, like I told Chewie the Heavy Ordanance Rebel looks like crap without his gear so, I'd rather not use him at all. I have a head like that one I could slap on a Endor rebel body, since that seems to be what your going for. I no you've got all this real-world logic your trying to work into this thing, but real-world logic never much applied in Star Wars. I'd rather people say Wow! that looks cool, than worry about a Rebel insignia being to obvoius. Hell you've already taken all the creativity out of the Imperial customs, lets dilute the few actual custom figs we will have in the dio. It seems that this project is turning more into to a Diorama project rather than a custom project.

Post by: Ryan on April 1, 2007, 11:45 PM
I'm sorry you feel that way Fritz, I'm really not trying to be an ass or anything, I just want this project to be great. My main point against Imperial customs is that we really need a lot more civilians and working on Imperials means not working on civvies... And I'm not the only one of that mindset. Fact is we need civilians more than we need anything else. We wanted to create a world, that means terrain, buildings, markets, and lots of civilians, not just a big battle between Rebels and Imperials. Not that we didn't want that to a degree course.

Quote
It seems that this project is turning more into to a Diorama project rather than a custom project.

But it is a diorama project... If we wanted it to be all about the customs there would be no need to go into any detail on this diorama at all. We could just paint some cardboard boxes call them buildings, and then use a flat grass mat and a few random lichen bushes as the terrain and call it good. And then just load up with every custom we can possibly think of. And have a big battle with a few random people standing around in a town. There is no logical set up like that, and I think it doesn't even have the same cool factor. Hence the more complex thought out diorama. Which of course includes LOTS of customs. But there needs to be some sort of logical proportion to them. If not why would any of these civilians live in a place that is so heavily contested in a battle, I guess I should say live there cause there are people all over that live in war torn areas. But why would we even have any? They would at least flee the scene temporarily if there were lots of fighting in the area. We wanted a world not just a battle scene, I'm trying to stay true to that and the story, that's where I'm pulling a lot of this from.

I really think that people will still say 'Wow' while looking both at the diorama itself and all the customs that are in it, but at the same time we can have some form of structure and stay true to the story and both real-world and Star Wars universe logic. Even in the SW universe there are aspects of what I was hinting at. Look at Stormtrooper to Civilian ratios for example. Tatooine has very few troopers and a BUNCH of civvies, probably even a few Rebels, but you don't see them going around in uniform. And by that time the Alliance has size that is fairly significant, at least compared to the time period we are doing. On the subject of your trooper I think he looks fine without his gear. And I think he'd look fine with it if it was painted a black or grey (at least the cannon) and the missile was removed. That and the helmet was switched or maybe even just painted brown. I like the Hem Dazon shirt, a lot. He looks like he could throw off the gear and just blend into a crowd, which is what we want. People think the civvies can be just as cool as Imperials, I'm not trying to dilute those at all. But rather than just throw together every cool custom every individual customizer can make all on their own, I think we can have somewhat of a logical system to it but still keep that wow factor. Thus making it appealing to both your everyday average SW fan, and those who really get into it and like to look for the logical aspect, and how it could apply in the real world. I know we are talk SW here and that often doesn't really apply,, but it doesn't mean it isn't desireable.

Really Fritz, I think you are a good guy and a great customizer, I really like the Imperials you have shown. I'm not trying to single you out at all I just think that we already have an Imperial Army, so we need to focus on the customs that will really make or break the city, it's citizens. It's be one thing if I was the only one who felt this way, but I think there are enough others that it is a valid concern, based on what I have seen in this thread, and from a few AIM chats. Sorry to drag this on I don't mean babble, I just wanted to try and show you where I'm coming from.

EDIT: To clarify a bit more, I'm not trying to say don't make any Imperials at all until the UGP is over, I'm just saying as far as what need for the UGP, Imperials are not it.

You didn't think you were gonna do this witout me did you. ;D

Of course not. We have missed you Ennis. Shoot me, Phruby, CHEWIE, and Glass a PM and we can pow-wow and get you caught up on what we have done while you were gone.  :)

I think what Ryan was trying to say here, (and correct me if I am wrong at your own peril) is that we really need to start looking at the civilian to Imperial ratio, and while Imperial Customs are good and all, some civilians are what we'd really need and like at this point. I don't think Ryan is trying to stifle anyones creativity on this project. If an Imperial is all you can make, and if we have a place for it, we'll do our best to find a use for it. If you can get really creative and make some average or above average Tom, Dick, and Janes, he's love to use those for our project, because that's what we really need. Obscure droids are also welcome.

I consider this project 40% diorama, 60% customs. We need customs to fill up the diorama keeping with the plot we chose.

I hope this clears some things up, and we all get along. :)

Hey Ennis, good to have you back buddy!

 >:(I'm being a bit of a stuburn artist here. I get that we need more Civilians than Imps or Rebels, if you look at what I've made for this project to date wich is a lot, you'll see that I've made very few Imperials in fact these 3 are the only ones I've made. But I did make an entire squad of Rebels and at least 6 Civilians. My problem is that the figures that have been approved by 1 or 2 people for this project need to be altered to fit someone elses view of what Rebels in this situation would look like. I'm reluctant to make my customs look like crap to fit that point of view. I'd rather make new ones than alter the ones I've made already. The Mon Cal and Heavy trooper in paticular both look horrible without the gear and I really like the White Helmets and insignias. Yes I know the Heavy Trooper looks fine in the pics, but what you can't see is that he has a huge gap  between his pelvis and torso wich the gear hides. I agreed to paint the gun or he could just carry a rifle instead. If these two won't work, I'll make 2 more to your liking but not mine. I guess I'd rather you guys just tell me you can't use a custom rather than alter it to a point where I do not like it.

Fritz, I agree, I don't think you should have to change your customs. You worked hard on those and no one has the right to take that from you.

I also think that if you are making them FOR UGP, that there are certain needs that some people have asked to be met, and that maybe some sort of result could be reached using both your talent and the groups ideas. I hope you don't take offense to what people are suggesting and know we are trying to make this project the best we can using the wonderful talent of our customizing community and volunteers! :)

The problem is that no one had any guide lines. I have never seen any post suggesting no Rebel insignias or Fleet Trooper helmets until just recently. Besides I don't agree with the guide lines being set now. I feel I have a fairly firm grip on Star Wars cannon and I see no reason why in the star Wars Universe that the Rebels should look like Endor Troopers in this Dio. Infact if this Dio take place in the early stages of the Rebellion it would be more accurate to see Fleet trooper style helmets, They wore them on Yavin and that was a secret jungle base. Infact we don't see the Endor style helmet until the end of the Rebellion.

I guess it has never been wirtten in stone here in the forums. My thoughts have all been based off the backstory and what we have discussed in chats, both a long time ago, and more recently. These chats never got recorded like they were supposed to, so I suppose if you weren't there they don't work. I guess some of it comes from what I feel is obvious based off the back story and real world examples. And for the Rebels I was offering suggestions after the fact like I do with any custom be it for the UGP or not, no one is forcing you to adhere to those on your own customs, and even for the UGP figures it ultimately falls to CHEWIE or Ennis to decide on the figures. I just was voicing my opinion. I'm sure we can get into a nice long debate as to when and why each uniform type was used, but we don't have that kind of time. So a nice medium is something we need to find quick.

As far as the Imperials go though... Those guidelines WERE set in stone. Chewie had just said the army was accounted for and there was no reason to make Imperial customs specifically targeted for the UGP as we don't need any. The idea is we desperately need citizens more than anything so we need to all focus on them. Do you see where I'm coming from here?

I have designed all of my UGP customs with the backstory in mind. I gave very reasonabl explantions for how they aquired a speeder and explained there organization. As of right now given your new guidlines we do not have all the Rebels needed for the UGP. Only 3 of mine have been deemed usable, which is fine, but we need to figure out what other figures we can use to fill in the gaps.

Here are some other Rebels figs we should consider.

If I may weigh in with an opinion here...  there should definitely be some loose guidelines to follow, such as a range of # of rebels (like between 6 and 12) instead of saying there must be 8.  Same with # of Jedi.  But I think rebel insignias and hat choices being yay or nay might be too picky.  I mean, an argument can be made for either side about why this insignia or that hat is used or not used at this time in canon.  I think the visitors to the UGP will be stunned at the custom quality displayed, but if anyone actually questions the reps there about why the rebels are wearing this hat or have that insignia... well, I won't namecall, but I'd be shocked!  That said, we can't just make anything we want, it has to fall within a reasonable framework.  With citizens, pretty much anything is a go as long as it doesn't look too recognizable as another character or rather looks like a GI Joe figure.

There's no real rule Elmeaux, it's just that obviously sculpting prowess has evolved since the POTF2 days, so customs using new bodies tend to look much better as I'm sure you know.  Chewie's opinion was spot on (those were my figures) and I absolutely agree- but I'm hoping as random citizens they won't take prominence and can blend into the crowd so to speak  ;D

Lets just bare in mind that this is CITY NOT A BATTLEFIELD. Therefore, we need a ton of citizens, droids and aliens roaming the streets. We need small accessories such as little market baskets with fruit, tables, chairs and other things to help decorate the streets and make them looked lived in.

We do not need alot of imperial army guys. Infact, we don't need really any jedi at all. Maybe there will be one rooming the streets but this is suppost to be after ep3 and closer to ep4. Therefore, we wouldn't see a gang of jedi having a shoot out with imperials.

The thing is, we have only about a  month and half to get these buildings built and have lots of miscellanous citizens running around the board. Agruing over whether an rebel should have a certain insigna is stupid. We don't have time for this kind of discussion.

Everyone needs to start working on citizens, droids, aliens, ships and vehicles. These are in desparate need! Please start sending everything that you have to me. So far I have only recieved one small box.

This is all well and good but WE MUST START CREATING CITIZENS, ALIENS AND DROIDS FOR THE DIORAMA. So far this city looks like a battlefield and not a real working city. This is not a worn torn city like something in a battle zone. I know imperials and jedi and fun, but your going to have to make me pick and choose what figures are going to in the display. I really don't want to leave anything out but I will if 90% of the population is imperials with heavy machine guns.

Please start sending me what you have.

Ok, so citizens it is.

Lot's of POTC fodder out there, I've got more than a few ideas myself.

I beleive someone brought up a good idea, I would like to expand on. Why dont we give each character a little history and maybe a backstory that will determine what place in the doi he belongs.

Also ti would really like to see the driod junkyard that Chewie brought up, I would love to see a great many droids walking the streets as well.

A military presence is needed, and I love the idea to have a jedi or 2 roaming around, haveing Vader hunting them a la "Purge". I would love to have all of Fritz's rebels in Wookie included, a smalll shootout between tehm and the Imps would be great, but your right the city is not a battlefeild. But what's Star Wars without the War? ;)

If I may weigh in, and I admittedly didn't read everything by a large margin, haha.  I just wanted to mention my opinions/thoughts on the uniform details and whatnot, since I like to think I have some good thoughts on the Alliance uniforms and whatnot...

I think Fritz's choices are good for a small Rebel Cell on a specific planet that's largely insignificant (IE: It's not being fought over greatly by either side).  Which is kind of how I view the planet you guys are lining up...  It's small, it's maybe got a Jedi running loose on it and that's why Vader would be there...  But at the end of the day it's not a contested piece of land by much of anyone other than a group of locals who've banded together to fight them with maybe a liason Officer leading them sent by the greater Rebellion...

Anyway what's this all mean about the uniform choices?  Well, to me they'd be patchwork...  A mixture of styles and gear.

My personal take on the Alliance is that the Fleet Troopers ARE the uniform of the basic military soldier in the Alliance.  Endor styled uniforms are the gear of Spec. Forces, and as such is a generally more tailored and expensive equipment given to teh fighting force more heavily used by the Alliance whereas the "Fleet" uniforms are reserved for their larger (but less efficient) fighting body used for larger scale engagements.  The "Fleet Trooper" in the field may wear the standard packs we see on Hoth and Endor, or they may wear trench coats and poncho's for various camoflauge schemes on various worlds (a cheap, efficient means of camo, and seemingly evidenced by Solo & co. on Endor).  The "Endor Style" gear is the better stuff given to the better soldiers though, or that's my take at least on things, others may not agree with that but there's nothing "canon" to say either way on the matter.

I like Fritz's guys for that reason though, that they are a patchwork unit on a planet that isn't hotly contested...  Now, if that planet WERE hotly contested, and a large (hundreds, thousands, whatever) of troopers were sent by the Alliance to duke it out over it...  In my little SW world they'd need to look much more uniform, much more structured.  But you guys are going for the smaller group, so I think the patchwork looks decent.

That said, I also, obviously, don't adhere to the "Alliance uniforms evolved over time" theory as well.  I think the troopers on Endor are not part of the "Fleet", and so their uniforms are different and so is their gear...  The Fleet Trooper uniform is still the fighting body's uniform, the Endor uniform style is part of the Spec. Forces, and so on...

Just some thoughts though guys...  Maybe they'll help.  I know I'm not involved but wanted to throw in my $.02 here and there.

On the whole I like Paul's quote best though...  The diorama isn't intended to be a battlefield so remember to stay focused. ;)

Good luck again guys.

I've just spent about 40 hours over the last 3 days moving my entire collection, which is a necessity in getting things moved around for the baby room, so sorry I've missed the last few days of posts.  I'll read them as soon as I can and get more of an idea of what is going on.

What I can say is THIS though - we want this diorama to look as good as possible.  If the leaders on site receive some items that stick out like a sore thumb, or just don't seem to fit in, etc - they have they right to not display something.  I'll be sending close to 50 customs for this (citizens, which are what we need).  If only 10 of them get put into it because they don't seem to fit in or are not good enough, then so be it - this project is constantly evolving and we all need to understand that.

As for number of Rebels, anywhere from 8-12 - really anything more than that we get into a full scale battle, which isn't what this is going to be... if it was, the citizens would all be hiding in their homes!  I think we should go with a small Rebel strike force - either one team of up to 12, or two squads of 6 men each and a few Jedi facing off against Vader.

And I believe this project to be closer to 75% diorama, 15% customs, and 10% standard Hasbro figures.  There has been a motherload of work put into construction of the landscape, city, wall, etc. - and it's FAR from being done.

I was thinking that whatever we can't place inside the diorama can be placed on a table over at the official booth. We can fill it with additional customs and let PenDragon's Twi'lik strippers watch over them.

perhaps there is a comprimis that can be made on the rebel issue....

if there is oging to be a force of 12 rebels, we can make 6 of the from fritzkriegs rebel, to include the fleet helmets and insignia and make the other 6 dressed in civilian clothes and gear, to immply the they had been recruited for the rebel movment on that planet and are not yet ofited as the rebels.

it would be cool for people to get the idea of there being some rebels that look like average citizens, so that they could be spies and gather information and move freely through out the city, as the rebels with the insiginia and fleet helmets wouldn't be able to do that..

what do you guys think?

the numbers can be changed i'm sure, the idea of half clearly identifiable rebels and half citizen rebels was what i was trying to illustrate. so that we could use the rebels fritz worked so hard on and give it that small anti imperial cell feel to it. so hopefully this is somthing that may help to settle the rebel dispute..... ;)

here's another custom i've just finished. the back story is for my universe. if he is somthing that might be used in the ugp, he can ditch the lightsaber and just be a rebel in civilian clothes or he can ditch all the gear, just have the backpack and be a flat out citizen, whatever works.....

=Braz Kirez= Rebel Fighter/former Jedi Knight("order 66"survivor)

Braz was a Jedi Knight at the fall of the Republic. He was on a Repubic Gunship, full of Clone Trooper when "Order 66" was given. The Clone Commander on the Gunship tried to make quick work of him, pointing a blaster at the back of his head, but it didn't go as planned. Braz, getting a small force tremor that somthing wasn't right avoided the blast. He fought with all his skills and force ability to hold off the Clone Troopers, but with all the fighting in such close quarters, the gunship was damaged and crippled, crashing to a canyon floor. The crash killed every last trooper and nearly killed Braz as well. He SLummperd out of the crash and made his way to a downed V-Wing fighter, who's pilot was KIA. The Starfighter was operational and Braz made his way off planet. he went into a Jedi healing trans and flaoted the galaxy for 8 days. After he was well he made his way to Tatooine. There he met up with an old Quarren friend who filled him in on the recent rumors and holovid broadcasts. Always a man of action, Braz quickly utilized his resources, contacting others who resist the New Empire. He and his amll group of rebel friends prepare, plotting, arming themselves and organizing other resitance groups, so that they may stike back at the new evil empire when the time is right.....

Post by: CHEWIE on April 4, 2007, 12:13 AM
I think up to 12 rebels might work, but definitely no more than that... the way I see it, one good Rebel is worth at least 2-3 Stormies in a fight... meaning if we had 12 Rebels, they could easily take out at least 24 Stormies... especially that killer Wookiee that Fritz made.

Basically what I'm getting at is that I don't think the Rebels should have too heavy of a force; that if there are Jedi present too, 12 Rebels plus a few Jedi could really do a hell of a lot of damage.  I'm more leaning towards 10 Rebels, but I think that once on site the guys will set up as needed.  If once the diorama is up and in place it looks better with 12 Rebels, then they'll put 12 out.  But really, a Rebel tank I think is just giving these guys too many resources as they try to do what I consider a small strike.  If it seems like it's too many, they may take a couple out.  Things are going to possibly change in the number of figures on display on site.  It's just the way it has to be.

And I think Jesse hit the nail on the head, these troops are more of a special forces (though at this point the Rebellion is still a small band and not very organized).  I like the idea of more of an Endor look to them.  After all, they had to go through the terrain on the planet to get to the city, and would have probably been equipped to blend into the planet's environment.

Now, back to the Imperials - Fritz has made some absolutely BEAUTIFUL Imperials this past week, no doubt there and they all fit in well.  But at this point I really, really think we need to concentrate on non-military customs moving forward.  Aliens, humans, droids, etc. for the streets are what we really need.

Now for the other stuff - I will start finishing my section of the wall hopefully tomorrow night, I am a day late because I need a new bit for my dremel, my sander bit broke tonight, which really ticks me off.  So I have to go to Walmart and find a new one then I'll finish up my section of the wall and mail to Phruby.

Regarding the Gun Tower - Owen emailed me and said I'll have it sometime next week, then I can get it shipped to.  As soon as I have pics I'll update.

Also the bit tower that I have almost finished needs a touch up on painting, then I can send it (hopefully next week...) and I need to get rolling on the junkyard.  Man I wish I had more time.  I'm wondering if I make the "base" for it out of wood and mail it to someone if they'd be interested in painting it.  Any takers?

Regarding the collection room - I'm so glad that it's finally moved, now I just have a ton of junk to go through, see what I do and don't want to keep that was in plastic tubs, and get the baby room ready... I have no idea when I'll even be able to do another photonovel, which definitely won't be until after June.   :-\

At this stage of the rebellion, I have to think that the Jedi and the Rebels would be working independently.  Otherwise, I think Obi-Wan would have been pulled in much much earlier.

There is alway hidden cameos or easter eggs in the movies would'nt it be neet to slip a couple of non-Star Wars Iconic Droids or robots in as little easter eggs. I have a couple in mind.

Good point, but I think it's also possible that before the Rebellion really combined its strength, there might have been several independent Rebel groups.  Some might not have really been in contact with each other.

So far by the count I see in the threads so far here's what we have in terms of figures and vehicles, outside of the grand army that Darth Anton is providing -

- 17 droids (13 customs)
- 24 human citizens (all customs)
- 56 alien citizens (all customs)
- 8-10 Rebels (all customs)
- 4 Jedi (all customs)
- 2 Security officers (all customs)
- 7 Vehicles (all customs - though I'm against a Rebel Tank in any form, maybe swoops instead for them)
- 5 Creatures (3 pterosaurs, but you guys may not like the other two)

Of that, right now I'm sending 30+ figures, 5 vehicles, and 5 creatures tomorrow to Phruby.  Also 4 pieces of the wall, which is huge - almost 7 feet long, and is 8 inches tall.  Made from wood.

I'll finish up the tall tower, have Owen's tower to send, and try and make the junkyard - already committing to more than I really should moving foward, but I'll do what I can.  If I need help getting the junkyard done I'll raise my hand with questions on who might be able to help.

I don't know what you guys were thinking, but I think we need to target something like this:

- 25+ droids
- 40+  human citizens
- 75+ alien citizens
- 8-10 Rebels (all customs)
- 4 Jedi (all customs)
- 6 Security officers (all customs)
- 7 Vehicles (all customs - though I'm against a Rebel Tank in any form, maybe swoops instead for them)
- 10+ Creatures (3 pterosaurs, but you guys may not like the other two)

Does that sound about right?

That leaves about 8 or more Droids, 16 or more Human Customs, 20 or more Alien customs, 4 more security guards, 5 or more Creatures.  I'm sending a Nexu with one of my shipments.  He might look cool in the wilderness.

I wonder if someone (with more energy than me) would want to go through the various image galleries at the fan sites and list the various "normal" figures that could be included.  There are lots of random aliens, cantina types, etc that could easily find their way into the diorama.  That would help us figure out which normal figures could be needed and determine who could provide them.

- 40+  human citizens
- 75+ alien citizens
- 8-10 Rebels (all customs)
- 4 Jedi (all customs)
- 6 Security officers (all customs)
- 7 Vehicles (all customs - though I'm against a Rebel Tank in any form, maybe swoops instead for them)
- 10+ Creatures (3 pterosaurs, but you guys may not like the other two)

Yeah those numbers sounds pretty good to me Brent... maybe even more humans?  Humans really are what we see mostly in ANH.

I think that for the Security officers, we're just going to stick with 4, because of the fodder needed for them to all look consistent - however I did send Fritz the fodder today for them, and for two more Rebels if needed.

For creatures, if we add a few more pterosaurs (I think Glassman might) we are getting close.

Do you like the creatures that I am sending or are they out of place?

Regarding vehicles... I think we're pretty good there, if I send 6 BARC Speeders we're ok, I think.  Also I believe that Fritz is making two Mech Walkers, and we are wanting an AT-ST for the diorama too.

I don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to critique of customs. How about adding tusks, horns, Floppy elephant ears or even feathers like the boga that Obiwan had on Utapow. This might make them look less paleolithic or mesosoic

Any chance you could add some sort of packs to that 1 beast Chewie and amake it some sort of pack-animal?

On the Imp vehicles I've got an Imp speeder I'm sending and still have to make a mech. I don't know if I'll be able to commit two mechs, I have to fill some orders for them for Order66Customs.

I was considering making some sort of mounted citizen.

So much to do so little time.

Well I have no time to add anything to those creatures.  I'd say that the dinosaur one is fine as is, maybe the long snoot one could have a bag or something on it's back.

I just shipped a lot of stuff to Phruby -

- 30+ custom figures
- 5 vehicles
- 1/2 of the wall

This cost me $60.00 to ship - so be ready guys for some expensive shipping (I used priority mail) -

Plus I still have to ship the tall tower after I finish it, the large gun tower, and the junkyard once I finish it.  Found out today I owe over $2,000 in taxes too.  So I won't be able to buy anything else for the project unfortunately and am going to be selling some of my customs on ebay here soon.  I knew I was going to part with some, and would prefer to sell them cheap but I'm running into finanial issues so I have to do what I have to do.

Yeah the taxes really suck I just had to send out 3 grand for property tax.  :'(

South FL realestate is way over priced

I'm going to be shipping my stuff in 3 or 4 waves. The 1st set of Rebels and a couple Denizens shipped today.

My next Shippment will be mostly denizens.

I still have to work on some vehicles so they'll be shipping last.

I'm going to experiment with a building tonight.

I don't think the size is an issue, I just think it's a little too high profile for the Rebels... if the city is this much in Imperial control, I'd think that they'd spot a rebel hover speeder quickly and blast it before it even got within miles of the city... just my two cents.  It's a nice looking vehicle though.  If you want, you could always send it and if on site the leaders decide to display it, they will do so, but there's always the chance that some of the stuff that is sent, once on site, might not be chosen... which will probably be up to Phruby, Ryan and Glassman.

Patreek, those speeders look great for citizen type stuff.  But the cliffs cost you $75 to ship?  What the heck?  How heavy was the box, and what sort of shipping did you do?  I'm sorry that it cost that much...

My vote still is no. It is a great speeder, I just feel we don't really have a place for it. It doesn't belong in the city and attacking the front gate with something of that size, small as it may be by comparison, will get you noticed much easier than several footsoldiers ambushing a small Imperial patrol. The terrian isn't all that big either it is only two feet wide in most places, which is only 36 feet in scale, so that would put them awful close. If we had more terrain I think it might have fit farther out, but as is I don't know that it works.

Within miles sure, and given that the edge of the terrain is at max 72 feet from the wall, 36 feet in most areas... I can't see the rebels even considering it. And obviously it doesn't belong inside the city.

It doesn’t have to be used as a Rebel Speeder. Could be owned by a Big Game Hunter, Bounty Hunters, or something like that. Just take off of cover up the Rebel markings. It looks very used to me (very Star Warsy) and would look cool in the right setting. If the Rebels had something like that it would almost be taken from the Imperials. Much like how the Resistance took German weapons and equipment during WWII and use hit-n-run warfare. If anything was used for a long period of time, it looked civilian or was. I would like that this is what the Rebels would be like on this planet over like what was seen in the movies during full scale assaults.

That included the box and the peanut foam. It weighed less than noting but it was 2 feet x 2 feet x 1 foot.  Remember i'm from Toronto so It's cross border. That's why I was bitchy about shipping.

Agreed with Fritz, I own ONE Jake Loyd figure, and to be honest, I'm not even sure where he is, or care where it is at this point.

I do think we need at least 7 kids of some sort somewhere though.

Maybe kill 2 birds with one stone, and have the rebels be kids?

Keep in mind, also, that even if things can't be used in the UGP dio they can be displayed elsewhere as custom samples.  Niub suggested this with my sample structure that doesn't really fit into the UGP.  I'd love for Fritz' vehicles to be displayed in some form!

I saw in another thread that it was being brought up if we should have kids in this diorama or not. I say IF someone wants to make a couple, then do so.  But I wouldn't be too concerned with it.  Rarely do we see kids in the films outside of Mos Espa or the Younglings.

A possiblity though is to make a female woman holding one of the babies (Luke or Leia).

I feel obligated to ask, we all have different styles and whatnot, but how are we going to make sure we all get back what we put in? Aside from the obvious security risk etc etc.

I'm labeling my customs just to be safe ( small mark on the bottoms of their feet. :) ) and I'm curious of how we're making sure.

I'll be able to bring mine back home on the flight home.

What I would do is take pics of everything and post them in the forums, and label the bottom of the figure's feet with your initials if you want them back.  Also if you're not attending and want something back, you'll need to give Phruby money up front so he can mail it - he's also going to need to know what needs to be sent back IN ADVANCE - he's not going to be able to haul everything back home from the project.

Keep in mind your shipping times. I ship from South FL, so my packages have been taking about seven days to arrive. Another thing that I have been doing to keep track of the customs I'm sending is to make visual packing slips. I PM one to Phruby and keep a copy for my records. Any building I make I really don't want back. Do what ever you like with the buildings I send. For the record I want the Rykrof and the other similiar styled Commando I made sent to Chewie. Here is another Original Alien Design I created for the UGP. When I saw the Schleich mercat I could not resist making a Star Wars custom out of it. LMK what you think. I know all the Jedi have already been chosen for the project. I just could no resist giving him a Jedi Backstory. He'd blend in pretty well as another traveler.

Phef a Mearkatian, was a promissing young knight in the Jedi Order when Order 66 devistated their ranks. Finding himself alone now in the Galaxy Phef travels from system to system in search of surving members of his Jedi bretheran. Diguised as a traveler this unsuspecting being has remained undetected for years. Small size and puppylike cutness betray the dexterous warrior underneath this visage.

phef- this one is great too. i really like post O66 jedi and this one is great. the spiecies is very creative and the look of this figure is very well executed. the backstory really adds to the figure. the shot of him fighting vader is a nice addition.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys.

Unless I get a sudden burst of inspiration, I think I may start winding down my UGP projects. If there are any urgent needs that you guys feel my talents are equiped to handle please LMK.

Jedystyle,

The paint I used on Arm Candy's Dress, was "Aqua Cool Pearl" from Delta Ceramcoat. These are available at Walmart.

Thanks again,

Great alien Fritz, I have the same XF head and had a similar idea for it...  It's too good not to use.

The Mearkat's a great idea.  I've putzed with some of the Schleich stuff but the animals are harder for me to find.  I was gonna nab some for indigenous wildlife or some such, but your use of that head as a Jedi is pretty cool unto itself.

Title: Re: UGP Custom Figures and Vehicles thread.
Post by: Ryan on April 25, 2007, 03:26 PM
No to the landing pad. There won't be a good place for it, and it looks a bit GiJoe-ish.

To be honest I feel the ship does too, mainly because of that green color. I think the color needs to be heavily muted, and maybe even made a different color. I'd have gone with a dull red and white like Old Republic craft, a greyish color, or something else that isn't that bright metallic green. The lights are pretty snazzy though, I do like those. Of course the ship's inclusion exclsuion is all up to Glassman so wait for the final word with him on the  ship itself.

I have to disagree with you on the ship color Ryan. The metalic Green gives it a Hot rod look. There is a civilian population and there vehicles will very in style and color. I was considering making a Vehicle or swoop in Metalic Blue, Kind of a Star Wars street Racer.

I like the bright green myself, but I would suggest weathering the engines and other hardware on it. More so as if a teen or young man is owner and keeps the finish looking good, but the mechanics would be dated. Think 50s street rod, where the engine is beefed and the car looks good (finish wise), but the wheels are stock and the interior is shot. Also would give it a weather wash just to age it a bit. If you remember Organa's speeder looked used and he could afford a gold plated one. Just some ideas.

Thanks for the support guys. I was actually going for something that did stand out. Like a Miata crossed with a Delorian. I want the pilot to have a smug smile. I wanted comething none military (low weponry). I believe this is a planet with lots of commings and goings so I would asumed that deviation from some of the drab colors (which are also cool). The platform is not painted and I thought it would have gone within the city as an extension of somebodie's Hovel. I seemed to recal an awesome speeder made out of a GI'Joe Water Mocasin. This is customising right? where we take something we don't need and turn it into something different and cool?

Not knocking anyone's vehicles, just being honest.

Personally, I like seeing custom vehicles that look more like Star Wars vehicles that aren't easily recognizeable as GI JOE or other military vehicles.... to me, just a repaint of something like this would make for a more realistic one man ship -

I really am not that big of a fan of the Joe water mocassins converted into Star Wars speeders, not that they aren't made well, they just scream GI JOE to me... and the new ship really looks like a painted up CORPS! ship.  Is that what it is?  It's not a bad custom by any means, just seems like it's not Star Wars... and the landing pad would be great, if we had the spaceport still, but that got taken out a while back due to the size we had to stick with for the diorama... just my two cents.

Remember, the leaders on site will have the power to not show something and nobody should take that personally.  This could happen to ANY SINGLE ONE OF US.  There could end up being TOO much stuff received, and choices have to be made as to what looks best on site.

So, if you send something and it's not displayed, please don't feel offended.  This was decided when the project first began in discussions and was made public.

Yeah there's been variety, heck a ton of it in the prequels.  I guess I'm looking at this as more of an OT era type thing which is why I showed those two POTF2 vehicles as examples.

Heck, one of the vehicles I'm sending really doesn't look Star Wars that much, at least not in my opinion... maybe it sort of does but I'm not sure -

If it gets left out, that's ok by me.  There might not really even be room for it.

We do have a couple similar to those actually too by the way -

It too bad we'll be without a space port - considering that we got so much space from Niubs.   :'( Sadness.

Not to slight Chewie (you ought to know by now that I respect you opinion, Justin my man, and can see where you're coming from), but I dig the ship. Granted, I don't really care about the CORPs body, and in my most humble ( ;D ) opinion, the city could use some more color - fer instance, your ship & Elmeaux's brass building.

So, if I was plannig on a Speeder with a nice Flame Job, I should scratch it?

The problem is, if we stick with painting every vehicle in Grey scale, we won't be able to tell civillian craft from the millitary craft. I work a lot with color and fashion at my job, I know you wouldn't think Optical work involved much fashion, but I am responsable for picking new Frame lines to put in our stores. It's very important to have contrasting colors. Contrasting colors catch the eye. A lot of times I'll buy frames in very striking colors just to catch a customers eye and bring there focus on the product line I'm trying to market. Sure they'll usually by something in Black or Tortise but the striking color served it's purpose in catching the customers attention. If everthing is dull and muted in color all the detail will be lossed to the casual passer by. This was one of the reasons I wanted custom troopers in the project. They grab the attention of on lookers. Sure we as customizers and Dio makers can appreciate the finer details, but most of the people who are going to see this do not customize, infact this may be there first exsposure to the hobby. I remeber the first time I was introduced to the world of Star Wars customizing. It was my freshman year at UCF in Orlando I went to the FX show with a Frat brother whom collected vintage Joes and Anime. As I was walking by a booth, a bright spot of orange (Contrast) caught my eye on a vintage Stromtrooper and next to it a Colbolt Blue face stared back at me from a White Vitage Imperial Commanders body (Again Contrast). Both customs were very amature by our current standards, but they caught my eye and sparked renewed interest in a hobby I had not thought about since I was 12, switching around Joe parts. And can you guess what the first Poft2 Customs were that I made, Stormtroopers with decal sticker to add Contrast to my little Army squad of 5 Stormtroopers.

I didn't mean anything against color selection at all - in fact I like the green metallic look and agree there should be some more colorful pieces in the diorama.  I just was referring to more of a design standpoint... I guess that when I see something that I can easily tell came from GI JOE or CORPS, it loses a bit of the Star Wars feel for me.  But, I'm not going to be on site to argue with anyone.   ;)

Anyways, with color schemes, here's a couple of speeders that have more colorful designs for reference - these look great to me because they have a very Star Wars feel to them -

Chewie,
Those are great examples of Civilian Speeder paint jobs. Although they do look a little too toyish for my taste. The funny thing about what we consider a Starwarsy speeder does'nt really make cut it in a more realistic enviroment. It seems about 80% of the population of the Star Wars universe rides around in sporty 2 seaters. Where are the sudans, trucks, and SUVs. I guess if you've got a load to carry in the Star Wars Universe you better get yourself a Bantha or Ronto.

My last post said Leaders. Who is the leader and what does that person think

Technically I am one of the "leaders" and I did tell you what I think and so did Ryan.  There's no reason to get mad about it if someone isn't 100% in favor of an item that has been made for the project - we've tried to be 100% honest and fair in every aspect of this project.  If you want to send the CORPS vehicle, I have no problem with it.  But if by chance it were to be decided by the guys on site that there wasn't a suitable place for it, then that's the way it is.  There will be a few "gametime decisions."

Basically, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the people on site might have to keep a few things from being on display for the diorama.  If we by chance run out of room or things start looking over crowded - then not everything can be displayed in the diorama.  If something sticks out like a sore thumb and brings down the rest of the scene, it's not going to be displayed.

I am in no way trying to disrespect anyone's work... but if for example, someone sends in figures that look like this -

Or like this -

They simply aren't going in the diorama.  Fortunately things have been to a higher grade so far that we've seen.

Anyways, Fritz - I agree that in Star Wars most people do seem to ride around in two seaters or the like.  There should be more small transports that can carry more than a couple riders.  Those ones that Owen made could use a bit of weathering on them I think... I think they were custom commissions he made for someone that wanted them "new" looking.  I prefer a little more "worn" look too.

I guess that when I see something that I can easily tell came from GI JOE or CORPS, it loses a bit of the Star Wars feel for me.

And that really is what I meant too. Colorful landspeeders, skyhoppers, or the like would be great. Color contrast IS a good thing. The thing is if you have a contrasting piece you want it to contrast for the right reasons and you have to make sure you want it to even stand out in the first place. Not comparing Patreek's speeder to this, but just as a for instance, I could eat nothing but spinach for an entire day, take a dump and it would bring some color contrast to the diorama. But that wouldn't exactly be something we'd want to draw attention to, or even have anywhere near the diorama.

So leaders what shall it be?  I thought customizing was all about taking something and making it better. Too GI Joe Too Pirates too Smurfy? We should call this modeling. What's wrong with corps I chopped of the nose and wings added panels like tie or EIII jedi fighters.

Patreek, I'm not denying that your speeder is a custom, or even relating it to fecal matter, it is a good CORPS custom, but that's all it is. Just because something has been customized and the customizer likes Star Wars doesn't make it is a Star Wars custom, especially not a good Star Wars custom. If I did a head swap and repaint on a GiJoe, it would still be a GiJoe. It isn't easy to mix fodder from other lines and get it to look "Star Warsy." It certainly is doable, as Fritz, CHEWIE, Brent, and loads of others prove regularly. The thing is for every piece that works there are 20 that don't. The CORPS line is one of those for me. I think I maybe have seen one or two vehicle customs that I have ever liked that used those as a base. And the figures, short of a droid head here and there, are hideous. The problem with paramilitary lines, ala Joe and CORPS, is that they often don't blend with Star Wars at all. The metallic green color in this case seals the deal for me. I suggested the dull colors because I think they would help camouflage the fact that it is a CORPS vehicle a bit and help it blend in more, while still including it in the diorama. I'm afraid that as is it will draw to much attention and it doesn't have the look we really want to draw attention to.

Brent's custom using this same vehicle, the one used in his PNs, is really the only one of these I've ever liked. He used enough other fodder, like the droid head to bring it closer to a Star Wars ship, and then used more of a matte blue and white to further hide it.

If you really want to include this try re-painting it and maybe even re-tooling it a bit. And then we will see. As is though I don’t think it will make the cut.

Well, I for one like the Speeder - I think it looks cool.  Sure its recognizable as a CORPS vehicle but it still has some nice touches (love the tail lights).  However, in the end I really agree most with Kevin (GASP!) that it probably doesn't match the overall theme we have with the city.  The buildings all really are drab and desolate like a city really coming under imperial grips.  The bright flashy vehicles would probably stick out too much.  In the early concept drawings with the space port and the high social class buildings I could easily see this fitting in.

The way I see it, if I can't phyiscally cram it into the table as part of the display and make it make sense, it will go in our booth area for display.

Actually, I kind of like that GH-style Ree-Yees. ;)

I didn't even think to take it badly  :)  (The "VERY" part was all about letting Pat know that I really don't have much of a say, seein' as how I'm only a leader for the web site, not for the customs or dios.)

Anyway, for a change: Instead of being difficult, I have a figure to add to this project ;)
I was so inspired by Johnboy_Walton's Gossam Air Corps (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2537198&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=&vc=1&PHPSESSID=) guy that I just couldn't help myself.

So, here's a Gossam (missing a few parts & colored in PhotoShop):

He's an x-Gossam Commando (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gossam_Commandos). And he's on Judde Lulos after managing to be captured & sold into slavery. If he keeps to himself & stays away from the heavily Imperial sections of the city, no one bothers him much. But today, he has a mission. He may not make it out alive, but it's imperative that he provide a distraction at exactly the right moment. Smack-dab in the middle of the Imperial sector.
If he fails, the rebel rescue operation cannot succeed.
Or whatever....

So he's either a civilian rebel-sympathizer, or a sleeper agent....  8)

Critiques & honest criticism welcome. I'll try to get it painted ... soon ... ish.
