If the past is an indication of anniversary sets I doubt we will get anything SA or VOTC/VTSC style.  These set are usually robbed of articulation.  Most likely they involve a small stand or diorama of some sort (AKA cardboard cut out).

The upcoming clone in the Windu pack dosen't looked robbed of articulation.

Chewbacca (VOTC)
Han Solo (TSC Carkoon)
Boba Fett (VOTC)
Lando Calrissian (Saga)
Accesorie:
Sarlacc Pit

Exactly.  I was talking about Anniversary BPs and 2-packs not regular BP.  Lets focus a bit more when we read ::)

Dont forget the Demise of Boba Fett so I would not expect any other than Luke figures from that pack in this one. My picks:

Luke Jedi with Hand burn deco
Gammorean Guard or Pote Snitkin
Sgt. Doallyn
Slave Leai
Mr. Crumb
R2 D2

I think Hasbro already has figures in mind for this set:

Battlepacks are, to me, a great way for new collectors to get a whole scene at once but does nothing for me since I have all of those figures anyway.  I'd like to write a big ol' PASS on this BP, but objectively I think this'll be great for new collectors.

I agree.   The problem I have is Hasbro's tendency to resculpt or add one new (figure or accessory) to these.   They did the same thing with Cinema Scenes and other multipacks since then.  I think ruiner nailed it on the head with the link to Hasbro's pics.  To get me to buy this, I would need either a repaint (blond Wequay) or resculpt any of Jabba's Skiff Guards (from the Cinema Scene) with knee and elbow articulation.  Or... for that matter, Lando skiff guard with articulation.

The RS rumor said,
Quote
Not unlike the previous Battle Packs, the 2007 assortments will feature four figures and a few small related accessories, and will utilize retools, repaints, and maybe even a new sculpt or two.
Wequay could definitely use an all new sculpt.  Make him articulated and I would get this set.  Then they could reuse the sculpt to make a carded figure and even a deluxe/utra figure of Ak-rev with his drums.

Yeah, but to get one worth having, would take something bigger than an accessory in  a BP.   Maybe it would work, but I would think with the mouth coming out and tentacles, it would need to come in a bigger package.    I would be glad to provide my own sand, though.

It figures.  Most of the speculation here was somewhat unrealistic and optimistic.  Hasblow has never put amazing figures in a BP.  True that recently they have been getting better with SA clones in there but that is only b/c the SA clone 41 mold was a basic fig not a VOTC/VTSC.

I wish we get more bang for our buck but the advantage is that if the BP sucks then you do not have to buy it.  After all we have free will, well sorta.  Out of those crappy BPs that came out last year I only got the Coruscant one and now the Senate one, the rest I just ignored. :o

who else, fromthe first fuzzy pictures,  was so hoping that it actually came with the skiff?  wait sorry it's hasbro.   >:(  this is one of the better presentations/boxing of a battle pack though, make good for display.

Yeah, if this came with the skiff I'd definitely be picking it up.  One of the OT "vehicles" I'm still missing.  As it stands, I have all of these figures so I'll pass as well.  The battle packs aren't a terrible idea, but they need to spruce some of them up a little bit with a better figure selection and/or accessories.

I really hope that Hasbro plans on rereleasing the Skiff now.  One of my main gripes with them over the last few years, selection-wise, is the large amount of pilot figures without ships to pilot (Cloud Car Pilot, AT-TE Gunner) or ships without the corresponding figures that go with them (No Pilot Anakins or Maces, or my main offender, no Zam Wesell that would fit in that horrible Saga 2002 Speeder).

For them to put out a box set of five figures, in packaging that blatantly uses a vehicle not currently at retail in any form as its backdrop, is basically a big "**** you" to not only collectors but moreso toward casual buyers and kids who will see this and be looking at the shelves for that nonexistent Skiff to go along with it.

Why don't they ditch that Saesee Tiin JSF and the white TIE for the Starfighter assortment and throw the Skiff out instead?  Oh, that's right, because it MAKES SENSE.  ::)

Its true i mean how many more repainted jedi star fighters do i need i mean all they should have done wqas the 2 anakins and two obiWans they dont need like 8 diffrent ones. They should start having a variety og vehicles i mean im 13 but i stilll love to play and open with my star wars toys. I buy tons of them and if hasbro would at least put out better ships then the star fighters and repaints then kids, fans, and collectors would be more happy. The main reason hasbro probably just does repainted vehicles is that there just to lazy! To make some cool high selling ships like the skiff.
Dont get me wrong hasbro does make some good toys i realy like the basic figures and the new marine and air-borne,barc troopers that are comen out. I'm gonna by 6 of each of them but hasbro needs new vehicles and playsets! Did hasbro not see how good that king kong playset sold for. I mean if you play with your figs like i do sometimes we need good backgrounds and vehicles to go with it. I think that if they make playsets the dark illusions photo novel would have the BEST BACKGROUNDS!!! ( NOT THAT IT ALREADY DOES'NT) Same with chewies photo novel they would all be better so hasbro start listening to the fans and make BETTER VEHICLES AND PLAYSETS!!! ::)

That was the first thing I noticed as well. It almost looks like we are getting half a skif made out of plastic like the Senate Pod, but there is now way that's right. Maybe they just cut one in half to use as a mock up?

To me it looks like a plastic floor of the skiff with the plank sticking out, and the middle of the balcony is plastic.  Everything else I believe to be cardboard.

Those bastards.

Guys, it's all cardboard, it's just a very well done 100% scale photo of the toy.  There's nothing half-ass about it at all, except for the fact that it's five old figures in a fancy-pants box!

I am all for hasbro to re-release the Tatooine Skiff because I never got one, and it costs to much on ebay for it.  I would have been better to have the skiff come with the pack. The pack would have sold much better.  I dislike 5 repack figures that we ALREADY own, so it is a BIG pass.

oh know I agree with you, I'm damn sure it's just a nice pic printed on cardboard.  I'm just saying if they'd done it with a cut up version of a plastic one.

Somehow this has surfaced at a Chicago TRU already. Apparently it's actually TSC not 30th.

For me it's an easy pass, but it isn't a terrible set for kids or newer collectors who don't already have those figures.
Title: Re: Battle Above the Sarlaac Battle Pack
Post by: Dan on September 25, 2006, 09:30 AM
Well, if they released the skiff with the 5 figures, I know I would be one of the first to complain that I don't want to pay for 5 extra figures to get a ship.
I had the POTF2 skiff, but sold it some years ago. It really was a flimsy toy, and only makes the lack of Jabba's barge more apparent.

So I guess the battle pack is an easy pass, but if they re-tooled the skiff and added some paint upgrades I might be interested.

I would love to see a skiff with a plank.
The set looks horrid.
Maybe if it had a new SA Luke Jedi, Han(Repack), VOTC Boba, weequay, and maybe even chewie?
Then again its a bp and they never have good articulation, they always keep it to a bare minimum.

I know that some of us have complained that Hasbro is re-releasing a lot of old figures in the most recent Battle Packs, but I wanted to relay a story from last night.

I was shopping with my two sons yesterday for non-Star Wars related merchandise (I know, for shame) when I saw a 6-7 year old boy walking around with the Carkoon Battle Pack in his hands.  He had the biggest smile on his face as he was looking at all the figures and from the looks of it he couldn't have been happier.

I can't begin to explain how happy I was to not only see a young kid getting into Star Wars (especially an item from the OT), but to see him genuinely happy with what we consider to be re-hashed items we would just assume pass on.

This gives me at least a little hope that when my kids are old enough to play with the toys I'm buying, they will be as happy as the kid I saw last night.  So keep pumping out those Battle Packs Hasbro.  I for one will continue to buy them.

This put a pretty big smile on my face last night and I thought that I would share.   ;D

In case some don't check the variations thread, there's two versions of this pack. One with Han's staff in his right hand, holding it down, the other is with the staff in his left hand above his head.

That is an awesome story, and I am continually shocked when I go to the SW section and see a kid or two excited about the stuff.  I mean, I literally thought they couldn't care a bit.  It was almost annoying to see a kid excited about SW, as if I expect them to only like Naruto or some other cheesy Japanese toy line :P
