Title: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Post by: Diddly on July 28, 2006, 01:38 AM
Teaser Trailer (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/823/823668/vids_1.html)

Holy crap... this game looks insane! I've always wanted to play a SW game where you just use Force powers to unleash hell. Looking forward to this one very much...

They showed the teaser at Comic-Con looks pretty cool. Loved the bouncing Stormtrooper part.

Pretty cool!  I'm guessing the story is centered around some remaining Jedi after ROTS.  Is this just for the PS3 or will there be a PC version?

All they said at CC was it was going to be with the nextgen machines. No mention of a PC release. But Im sure they will. Lucasarts is good to the PC gamer.

True....but there have been a few "console only" games like Obi-Wan.  I think they came out with a PC version of SOTE, but it came out so late and in such a small production amount, that I never picked it up.

Never mind, I just uploaded it to youtube, and then I can embed it in my page.  :D

The look of a game is empty without a good story behind it...I play CS and DOD because I have great clan mates that spend 90% of the time talking and 10% playing, but these are a paradox.  Honestly, I like Jedi Knight and Rebel Assault II a hell of a lot better than Battlefront and Battlefront II. The stories for the BFs, honestly, were lame. I can only take so much of sensless aiming and firing. At least the old games had stories and *gasp* live action cinematics. This game could very well be one of the greatest ever released by Lucasarts, but according to me (whatever weight this carries) the story is so much more important than the new graphics and force abilities.

EDIT: I also  seriously doubt that's what it's actually going to look like, in-game.

Wow,looks awesome & they use OT Trooper voices instead of Jango's! Can't wait for this! How that guy tortured that stormie didn't seem very jedi-ish. :P

JK,

I don't think we really have to worry about a good story coming from Lucasarts, their track record is pretty good when it comes to putting forth a good story line in a game.  Check out any of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games as well as the KOTOR, Rebel Assault, even Force Commander and Empire at War.

I don't know if any of you watch Attack of the Show, but they showed this clip at the end of yesterday's show.  They said it was more of a technology demonstrator for the HD/Next Gen systems.

Man I hope they make a PC version.   :o

Lucasarts seems to have a thing for Microsoft since alot of their games have been for XBOX & PC only.

That means it's coming out on all Next Gen systems (PS3, 360, Wii) as well as PS2, PSP, and DS. Basically, it'll be on every game system except PC.

I'm liking the look of this game, especially after seeing the action figures from Toy Fair.

If they're porting it to the PS2 (why?), it's disappointing there's no port for the X-Box since it's amuch more powerful system than the PS2, and where the hell is the Wii port?  Man, who doesn't think the Wii controller isn't the ideal to play a game where you kick the **** out of people with the force?

I think they're missing the boat with that, but there's been rumors of a completely separate SW game for the Wii so maybe I'm jumping the gun...  I just think TFU is going to be fantastic on next-gen systems so now I'm more intent on getting a 360.

I hope the "Apprentice" you play isn't customizeable for the figure line accompanying it...  I prefer a story with a set line and characters.  I'd love a figure then of who you play as.

This game looks fantastic, so far, I am curious to see how it plays, what the real style of the game is, and if it's not too over the top.  I don't want it to really stretch the precedents the force have set for them within the films somewhat.  I can see it being more a tool of destruction and all...  I just don't want it to go over the top like in the CW toons or something like that.  I'm hoping for "realism" (using that term loosely obviously).
Title: Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Post by: Matt on February 15, 2007, 11:35 AM
If they're porting it to the PS2 (why?)

Because the PS2 is still the best-selling home console out there, and they'd be losing out on a ton of sales if they didn't port it to the PS2.  That's why.  Whereas the original XBox is all but dead (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/763/763259p1.html), with nearly all of it's support having already gone over to the 360.

I bet there is still hope for the PC folks, it will just take a while longer.  Hell, Gears of War (awesome game btw), is also coming to PC.

I am glad I have a 360 now.  ;D
Title: Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Post by: Jesse James on February 15, 2007, 08:32 PM
I'd think the work porting it (It has to be substantial to dumb down the engine and things) to the PS2 wouldn't be worth it...  I can see not taking it to the X-Box for that very reason of course, but seriously if your'e going to dumb the game down for a last gen system, why not for the two that did well?  There's as many XB owners not owning 360's as there are PS owners not owning PS3's I'd think...  Equal money lost despite the XB abandonment.

Either way I'm actually not interested in owning a copy of this for a last gen system...  I'd want it for PC or a 360 god willing I can get one.

I really hope this lives up to expectations.  I'm thinking the hype is going to be very Phantom Menace-ish. :(

Oh, no.  At this point, a lot more XBox owners have made the jump to the 360, than their PS2 brethren have with the PS3.

Yeah I honestly can't afford it.  I got a camera last year and that's still getting paid, though near done there.  Don't want to do a pile-on of electronics so I'll live without this.  FU isn't due till the end of the year anyway.

The video I just posted on the front page though...  My god that looks like fun.

Here's another tech demo that's been making the rounds (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2731194268578183897&hl=it).

It's not as fun as seeing stormtroopers getting tossed around, but we do get a look at the Felucia environment, as well as a look at a giant Rancor skeleton, Indiana Jones on a rope bridge, and a certain hated Gungan character encased in. . .  Jello?

That's what I thought, as well, but apparently, "next gen systems" just means the 360 and PS3, for now, anyway.

Agreed--especially since it might find a wider audience on the Wii than it will on the PS3.  I bet we'll see it officially announced for the Wii sometime in the next few weeks or so. . .

If not, I'll stick with buying PS2 games to play at my friends house.

I don't know if any of you picked up the latest issue of the SW Insider, but they had a pretty good article on this game.  Most of it is stuff we've already uncovered, like the AI, the way the environment will react, etc, but they also went into some of the story behind the game like:

You have a pilot ferrying you from mission to mission by the name of Juno Eclipse...she will be a potential love interest for your character ala Jann Ors.

Some of the worlds you will go to will be:
Raxus Prime: a junk-ridden planet that was in the Clone Wars video game.

Felucia:  Where you will have to fight Shaak Ti as well as force wielding Rancor Riders

Kashyyyk:  Where you will embark on a campaign to enslave the planet

TIE Fighter construction facility: Not really sure what will be going on here.

In addition to Shaak Ti another Jedi you must hunt down is  a Jedi Master Koto.

It's an interesting article for anyone who is interested.

Title: The Force Unleashed game delayed again??
Post by: jedi_master_sal on January 18, 2008, 10:14 AM
What the fark? Again?

It's being reported by another website that the game's release has been pushed back to as far as August 26.

The only significant reason I can see for this is them trying to adapt the game to the Wii, what with the lightsaber controller.

In the meantime though the toys are going to hit mass retail in a month or two with the main thing they are tied in to NOT at retail. That may mean lackluster sales at first.

Yes, collector interests will coax the line along, but it remains to be seen if we will be able to carry it through until the release of the game.

Wow, it's been almost a year since we've seen the toys and photos and trailers from the game.
I can't believe there is yet another hold-up with the game itself.

I WAS excited to play the game, now-not so much. My interest has cooled off on these. It will probably pick up when we get a HARD confirmation of the release date of the game, but by that time the toys will have been out for awhile and my interest in getting more TFU related toys will have wained.

This is a significant screwup on LucasArts. Once okay we can forgive easily. It happens even with the best of franchises. But twice now?? And so long after we have basically been told to look for an early spring release. Shame shame LucasArts.

While I'm disappointed the game is being delayed, I'm not complaining about it.  Just remember what happens when they try to "rush" a game out **coughcoughkotorIIcough**.

I think a little patience will pay off and we'll get an awesome game.

Don't forget, they aren't just using an old engine and slapping some fancy graphics on it and sending it out.  They are creating some serious AI and physics engines for this game and that takes time to work it all out.

I'm not shocked at this...  A friend in the industry mentioned that he thinks the game's got bad omens around it, and that it might be a flop at retail...  I'm fearful now, more than ever, that he's right.

"Guaranteed arrival for the official retail shelf date of September 16, 2008! Get it the same day as your friends and foes, without the long wait in the store lines!"

That's all I needed to hear.....ordered.

Yeah, I'm sure the lines won't be that crazy, but I'll be working until 6:00pm the day this comes out, so this was the best option for me. It will be waiting at home for me when I get off work. Can't ask for much better than that! Plus, this will end up being cheaper than buying it for $60.00+ tax in the store.

The big news on Spike's airing of Force Unleashed crap between E2 and E3 this evening was basically that you play as Vader for the first level while you find your apprentice...  Which is cool, but they were acting like that's the end-all-be-all for Star Wars fans...

Am I overstepping by saying that I don't feel that most really will care?  I didn't think that was a big deal anyway.

I dug some of the new footage...  It went by so fast though that you really couldn't critique it.  I just noticed an AT-ST variant and a whole lot of shocking **** and throwing it around.

I've heard the 360's graphics are top-notch, but probably comparable with the PS3's...  I also hear the Wii wins on controls.  I dunno, the only really big difference would be the controls and possibly some content differences.  I don't own a Wii or PS3 so I'm sure which I'm getting it for. ;)

I am not sure if this has already been mentioned, but apperently the Wii and PS2 version of the game are supposed to be different from the 360 and PS3 version. Maybe that is why there was a delay? I don't know. Either way if the game is supposed to be different I might just buy it anyways.

The new trailer sorta opens up the plot a bit (if you're spoiler-worried), but that sounds actually plausible and interesting to me.  I dig it and look forward to playing the game.  The Wii version sounds interesting but I'll stick with the XB360 one when it comes out.  The Wii's fun for the game play though.

Played the demo some more, figured out that you can play a different difficulty levels and played on the hardest. I love the challenge. I also love that the game is designed for you to figure out how to do the most damage in one action.

I've played it once, and it's a visually impressive game but I'm not totally sold on it yet...  The controls are a little wonky.  It falls prey to a slightly bad camera system it seems.  Reminds me of Bounty Hunter and the camera system in that game, which wasn't a deal breaker on that otherwise excellent game, so I'm not judging FU by that.  I just definitely am not sure on this one yet.  It had a cool feel to it, the story sounds intriguing and that's like 80% of a game to me usually...  I just don't know if I'll get used to the controls enough to enjoy playing it through.  I felt like it was sort of out of control for some reason.

Again, I played it once so I have more to do to give it a fair shot.

Graphics were pretty stunning though, and not knowing how large the level you get is, I played till I got a little ways into the open hangar where the TIE's start shooting at you.  Which was a little lame because they're shooting at you towards the side somehow even though they're not really facing you...  Hard to explain but I just wasn't seeing how they could train their guns on you without stopping, but I digress.

Throwing **** around was fun though and I liked the little stuff like the windows blowing out and blast doors shutting to seal them.  That's cool to see in the SW universe.  Seeing the functionality of everything in action, ya know?  Bulkheads sealing and whatnot.  Again, graphics/environment is great, it's the controls I'm iffy on.

It's a SW game though so who am I kidding?  I'll probably ask for it for my bday or something.
Title: Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Post by: Darth_Anton on August 25, 2008, 09:40 AM
The demo doesn't go on for too much longer after the TIE's are shooting at ya. The last thing you have to defeat gives you an even better idea of the game difficulty.
Title: Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

I got to the AT-ST and don't really get the button flashes they keep showing.  The game's not too hard if it's set to normal (one step above the easiest setting).  Set above that though, I can't get out of the first hangar.  It's disgustingly hard with no health replenishment.  Lame.

Q&A we had at Yak with the developers -

Q #1: Are there anymore major surprises in store or has most of it been revealed through Hasbro, Lucasarts etc.?
-Submitted By Paul Skywalker

A: Definitely!  We’ve revealed a lot, but that’s just the beginning of the story of The Force Unleashed.

Q #2: Are there unlockable characters that we can play as once the game has been "beaten", like the Emperor etc.?
-Submitted By Jayson

A: There are unlockable characters in the game, but the only one we’ve officially announced is PROXY the holodroid.  Astute searchers will be able to find cheat codes for other characters if they look around, though.

Q #3: Did you lobby Hasbro for specific characters to be made into action figures, or did they just choose which ones to make on their own?
-Submitted By Darth Kikinou

A: It worked both ways.  We presented the story and characters to Hasbro, with suggestions about what we felt would make the coolest action figures. They took many of these suggestions, and then also looked at all the concept art and picked a few additional characters.

Q #4: Many people of my generation grew up playing games with only 2-D perspectives and have a very low attention span for anything 3-D. How do you feel this game will appeal to players like this who had a difficult time ever getting into the more recent titles like Battlefront I & II? Moreover, it seems that game aesthetics have become more of a priority than the "fun factor" for games of this sort these days, do you have any comment on any efforts that were made for TFU on this front?
-Submitted By Darth Kikinou

A: First and foremost this game is about kicking ass with the Force. From day one, everyone on the team – including Art Director Matt Omernick – agreed that gameplay would be king, and would dictate everything. We certainly don’t feel like we skimped on the art at all, but whenever we had to make a decision between aesthetics and gameplay, we chose gameplay. Accessibility was also very important to us. We focus tested the game numerous times to ensure that the controls are as easy to understand as possible, and that players can jump in and feel powerful from the first button press. You can grab the demo right now for Xbox 360 and PS3 to try out the game.

Q #5: Are there any OT characters that will be shown in the game that we haven't already been made aw are of ? Such as General Dodonna, Riekken, or others?
-Submitted By Chewie

A: We can’t reveal everything!  Princess Leia, Bail Organa, Darth Vader, and the Emperor are definitely in there, but we do have a few other surprises in store…

Q #6: Are there any Stormtroopers from the game that aren't being made by Hasbro? If so, can you share a pic of one of them?
-Submitted By Chewie

A: I believe so – we have about a dozen stormtrooper variants in the game, including a fearsome new version of the dark trooper.

Q #7: Can you say whether there is any validity to the rumor that the secret apprentice is Quinlan Vos's son? He was found on Kashyyyk, where we last saw Vos in the Republic comic series, he was grabbed by Vader as a child and raised by vader, so the timeline seems to work......
-Submitted By Jedistyle

A: All along, we’ve tried to keep the Apprentice somewhat mysterious and actually not reveal very much about him – even in the game. In fact, the team really wanted to avoid naming him, preferring to just use his codename of “Starkiller” instead. This was based on some direction from George Lucas, who stressed that a bit of mystery is part of Star Wars and we should avoid revealing everything. We don’t ever name him in the game, though he is named in the novel.

Q #8: I have read that there are 3 ending for this game, 1 canon, and 1 each of dark and light side. Does this game sport the light and darkside point system like the KOTOR RPG, allowing players to choose to attempt to remain in the dark or light side of the force?
-Submitted By Jedistyle

A: While we’re all big fans of KOTOR, The Force Unleashed is definitely a very different type of game. The Force Unleashed is very action-oriented with some light RPG elements.  You’ll face a decision in the game that will result in different endings, but it isn’t a meter that runs while you play.

Q #9: Will the Secret Apprentice be able to wield a blaster at any point, or will he be relying solely on this lightsaber and Force abilities?
-Submitted By: Chewie

A: We really focused on the notion of the Force unleashed, so your primary offensive weapons are Force powers. We consider the lightsaber another Force power and put just as much thought (probably more) into making it as versatile as possible.

Q #10: Though it may be too early to ask, Are there any plans for a sequel to the game? If so, can you share any details at all? Any target release dates in mind?
-Submitted By: Epsilon Jedi & Darth Stringield (Question Combined)

A: It’s definitely too early to say what’s next after The Force Unleashed.

Q #11: Is there anything special you can tell us that nobody else knows about the game yet? Any secrets that you can finally reveal to the public or something surprising you'd love to share with the Star Wars collecting public? We're all ears!
-Submitted By The Yakface.com Staff

A: We definitely don’t want to give away any other major spoilers.  I will say this – through the story of the Force Unleashed you will learn exactly how the Rebellion is started…

Special Thanks To Developers Adam Kahn and Haden Blackmann for arranging this Q & A! We look forward to bringing you more YAKExclusive Q & A's from LucasArts in the future!

REMEMBER: The Force Unleashed debuts on all major gaming consoles on September 16th, 2008!

So far, it's getting some lukewarm reviews I see/hear...  A friend in the industry actually said not to expect greatness, and that big frequent delays like that are usually a HIGHLY negative sign.  I'm a little cautious now about buying the game right out of the gate.

The story sounds intriguing and that can often be enough for me to overcome other small disappointments in the game, but there really is some negative feeling out there among the industry in regards to this game I guess.

I can't say the Demo wowed me either...  It's ok, don't get me wrong, but I can't say it floored me by any means either.  I also don't care for the way it controls and I find it somewhat complex really.  moreso than it needs to be.  I dunno...  I'm losing steam on this one right now.

Has anyone come across a review for the Wii version? I've read the ps3/360 reviews where they complain about the combat system. The Wii version is suppost to have a completely different combat system via the wii remote. It probably won't look as nice as the other two but I can live with that. Could the Wii version be the one to get?

So I put down a pre-order on a PS3 version tonight.  Not much of a pre-order since it comes out tomorrow.

So I was able to get a Wii tonight.  My wife was always against gaming systems, especially since we have young kids.  She doesn't want them sitting inside all the time playing video games.  Anyway, we were at a friend's place this weekend and our boys were playing boxing and bowling and having a blast so I convinced her that we needed to get one.  Thankfully a relative of mine came across one tonight.

I think I'm going to be obligated to now go out tomorrow and pick this up.  We'll have the sports game for the boys and TFU for me!

I can't believe the massive screwjob caused by the Stormtrooper Commander though.  That's easily the biggest mess revolving around this.  I'm still reluctant to buy the game immediately.  I may wait for a sale, may not.

Wow! That was fast Ryan. I'm in the middle of the second level now. Swinging the wii remote around is exhausting. However, I've got to say using the wii remote is alot of fun for combat even if it gets a little hectic at times trying to do force powers and lightsaber at the same time but I'm getting better at it.

The only thing so far I can complain about the wii version is the crappy cutscenes. They are animated real time by the wii's engine and look terrrible. The lips barely move during talking. There is no motion capture at all. I've seen better looking cutscenes on the original playstation. Too bad they didn't just show a video of the 360/ps3 cutscenes instead.

I'm up to fighting Shaak Ti on Felucia.  The "boss" combat can get pretty intense and drawn out.  And getting those control sequences to beat the bosses takes a little getting used to.  My only complaint with the game is about the save settings.  It allows you to save at the top of a level, but not at any one spot in the level.  That was one of the things about KOTOR that I really appreciated.

I got past pulling in the Star Destroyer, once you figure out what to do, getting it done isn't so bad...just know that the faster you take care of the TIE fighters the better.

I'm not in the Death Star trying to free the rebels.  I'm kinda stuck in the big room before where you have to activate the lifts to get to the Emperor's observation room.  I just haven't quite figured out what I'm supposed to do yet.

Ryan, that was fast.  Do you always play through games that fast or is this on just short?   Are you playing on the PS3?

I'm still on the fence on getting the PS3 version or the Wii version.

Eh, I guess I just go through them quickly. Assassin's Creed I beat in about two days, including getting all the flags and whatnot. Halo 3 I had beat on Heroic within like 10 hours of starting it. Rainbow 6 Vegas I had done in a few days on realistic. It helps when I skip class when some of these games come out though... :-X

I bought it for 360 rather than PS3. I've got to say I still like my Xbox more and I really like having the achievements for each game. I think any non console exclusive game that I want I'll be getting for 360. I'm mostly only going to buy exclusive titles for PS3.

Not having played the Wii version I think I'd have to recommend you get the 360/PS3 version. The story is such a crucial part of the game and in game movies are great. From what Paul said, it seems like you'll miss out on that with the Wii version.

Because pulling the ******* Star Destroyer out of the damned sky is impossible, that's why. >:(

Yup that garbage took me at least an hour or so. Easily one of the most frustrating parts I've ever played in a video game. Whoever designed that part needs a swift kick to the balls. For anyone still struggling this is what I did:

Make sure you have your Force lightning powers set to full and if you can Battle Meditation, Max Force powers, and any of those. You can either take cover behind the two indestructible cover pieces or move back and forth between the two. Any time there are TIE fighters I would go to the middle jump up into the air and blast them with my lightning. The camera view/targeting system is frustrating so unless you really have the hang of it they will have to circle by several times. once you start using the force on the Star Destroyer I found it is best to ignore the joystick diagram on the screen, just pay attention to the color. You need the destroyer to be level with the ground and looking right at you, then it has to sit there for a little while until the green light has been on several seconds, then go to town with the pulling. As the next wave of TIEs comes you can usually keep pulling until you only have half of your health or so. Then you have to try and kill the TIEs as quickly as you possibly can. The Star Destroy does tun back to its original heading but I don't think it regains altitude, and if it does it does it much more slowly. Just keep chipping away at it, it may take two or three waves of TIEs before it comes down.

Like Robb said, just avoid the guys all together. Those snipers are too high up to target with the crappy camera angle and there will be too many purge troopers before long. Just run to the blue panels in the middle of the room give it a quick Force Repel and drop on down.

I guess I didn't make it so clear as to where I'm at.  I'm past that big hangar room, and beyond the long tubes where the planet killing beam is coming out.  There's a large room that you have to get to the top of and if you fall to the lower portion there are two AT-ST's and a large glowing (force field maybe?) piece of equipment that I can target, but I cannot get to move when I use the force to try and pull it off the wall, electrocute it or anything.  I've only spent about 15 minutes on it so far, so I just need to figure out how to turn on the lifts.

Ryan, neat strategy of electrocuting the TIEs.  I just grabbed them with the force and threw them into each other.

I tired that first but I could NEVER grab them, I got lucky occasionally but the Star Destroy would completely turn back by the time I killed them all.

Ah, that part is pretty easy too. You can kill the AT-STs if you want but if you sprint around down there you don't have to. That blue thing on the wall you see, grip it and push it in, don't pull it out.  :)

There is a box on the bottom level with the 2 ATST's(Sounds as if you found it).  This actually has to be pushed in, and not pulled out.  Try that and that should activate the lifts.

The game was short, but alot, and I mean alot of fun to play.  I need to go back and do Dark Side tonight!

Cool.  I thought I tried moving it in every possible direction, but maybe I didn't push it in.  They highlighted it in the cutscene so I knew I had to do something with it.

As far as the beginning of the level goes, I was able to kill everyone including ths snipers.  There's a way to jump up to the ledge where the snipers are hanging out.  I ran to the rooms on either side as to not be targeted by them and took out most of the troops and AT-ST's on the floor, but then jumped up and dealt with the snipers.

I caved and bought this tonight...  So far, I'm as unimpressed as I imagined I would be...  Not that it's horrible and I like the story well enough, and that's just how I'm looking at the game right now.  The mechanics of it are NOT good though, and the graphics aren't on par with the more top tier 360 games I own.  After the long waits, to be disappointed in ANY aspect of the game is a frustration to me.  LA could've done a lot better...  I've seen them do better.

Well, I bought my PS3 along with TFU and I'm really enjoying the whole thing! It's my first next gen console and game, though, so I don't have anything to compare TFU to, but nonetheless I really like it.

I'm planning on buying more titles, like Assassin's Creed and Resistance: Fall of Man, which are platinum now. Guess TFU will drop below those on the list then, seeing the reviews and reactions of members  ;)

I beat the game yesterday, but did not see a decision point where you could go light or dark side.  Did I miss something?

You either go save Kotta by attacking the Emperor and finish with the light side ending OR you go try to finish off Vader and get the dark ending.

Sith Lord is fairly annoying. It isn't one of those games where it just the harder difficulty makes you take more damage and it puts more bad guys on. It is the most annoying kind where all the ******* guys are suddenly 10x as strong. I just played Paraxis (or whatever the junk Jedi's name is) several times and I barely even took off 1/10 of his health before I died. He blocks everthing. Lightning does almost no damage. Throwing **** at him seems to be the same. I either miss or it does very little. Has anyone here beat him on Sith Lord?

Finished off the Wii version today, and it dose not give you the "choice" Only one problem the way it ends, dose not connect with what happens in New Hope totaly. For one that Leia and Bail are members of the RA in a NH even though its still kind of keep under raps. At the end of TFU its clear its not under raps any more and Vader and Emperor know they are part of the RA.

Leia was a prominent figure in the Rebel Alliance....just the Empire didn't know it.  Even when the Empire showed up to arrest everyone, Leia was only there via video conference through Proxy.

I thought the story was great, I just wish the game was longer.

Ya but she says she is a member of the Imperial Seante on a diplomatic mission.
Title: Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Post by: Jesse James on September 22, 2008, 08:48 PM
All part of her cover though...  She's trying to save her ass, and doing the "diplomatic protest" thing to basically say "nah nah, you can't touch me".  The Imperial senate itself seems to be an issue for Palps/Vader until the DS's construction is completed.  WIth the "ultimate weapon" in action now, they're planning on using THAT to keep everyone in check.  It seems to me that there's a good many years between E3 and E4 where there's political turmoil and in-fighting.  I guess the declaration of a new Empire didn't mean the declaration of a totalitarian dictatorship by any means, and that many planets were threatening to reopen a galactic-wide war if they didn't have their fair say in a Senate.

Palpatine/Vader must go through a lot of **** for a long time I'm guessing, and then in ANH the DS is built and Palpatine dissolves the Imperial Senate based on the news that it's ready to roll.  Tarkin, who seems to be quite high-ranking, takes it for a test-drive and uses it to A) make a statement to the galaxy as a whole by blowing up a core world in Alderaan, and then B) also is using it in an attempt to hand the Rebels their collective asses, and hopefully quell any other upstarts.

I've not played the game through yet but that still jives to me...  They know Leia's "involved" they just are having a harder time proving she's active.  Catching her stealing secret documents though and giving them away?  That's a good way to put the Rebel logo to her publicly and out her entire planet, perhaps justifying a full-scale invasion of Alderaan at the time?  What better reason to declare martial law than if that planet's leader is a clear traitor to the established government?  Destroying it is just an afterthought by Tarkin to get his point across and deal with a "problem" all at the same time.

Something cool about TFU that I was just noticing tonight as I got to the one Jedi...

I just find it very interesting how they're playing up the Jedi characters in this game to have sort of "gone off the deep end".  At least some (if not most) of them.  Especially the Jedi on the junk planet, who clearly is off his rocker after Order 66...  Marris Brood's off hers too, in her own way.

Anyway I just found it interesting how they play up some Jedi as going into hiding and slowly losing their minds over the events of Order 66 while others succumb mentally to the Dark Side, and likewise others become heroes making due and trying their best to fight back.

There's some very good storytelling in there to expand this untapped point in the timeline.  It's cool how some Jedi just couldn't take the Jedi Purge mentally and lose it.

Due to life being hella busy right now, I've only really played around with the first level.   Gotta say, it reminds me quite a bit of Galaxies with the scripted paths and the scenery.   An online multi-player force dueling element would have be aweseome.   Guess we'll just have to wait for the Wii dueling game

Was anyone able to get the lightsaber hilt up on the high ledge on Raxus Prime after beating the AT-AT? If so how did you do it? I couldn't get it at all. I couldn't get the force crystal in Cloud City that is high up in the room right after meeting Lobot.

The Force was indeed unleashed this September as the latest Star Wars title stormed the charts, knocking the competition out of the way like Bantha Poodoo.

by David Radd on Wednesday, October 29, 2008

No one would call Star Wars games rare or infrequent, but Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is special. Its story, set between the two Star Wars trilogies and crafted with the help of George Lucas, gives the game a higher level of importance than most others. While some may say this is the most significant release since Revenge of the Sith came out, we can think of a better parallel: Shadows of the Empire.

While many young fans may not have even been born when it was released, we can assure them that Shadows of the Empire was a big deal to the Star Wars faithful in 1996. It featured a video game, action figures, a comic series and a novel that all tied into a story set between Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, something that had until that point had never been done. Shadows of the Empire paved the way for the Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition release the next year, and ultimately convinced George Lucas that there was demand for Episode I: The Phantom Menace. While it's unlikely that George Lucas will be convinced to do more Star Wars than the current Clone Wars TV series [And some people would consider that a good thing! - Ed.], The Force Unleashed shows that's there's still a lot of demand for Star Wars mythology.

Go forth, my apprentice.

According to the NPD, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed occupied the first, fifth, ninth and fourteenth best selling slots overall for the month of September. This made it the fourth best selling title on Wii, third best selling title on PS2 and the best selling title on the PS3, PSP and Xbox 360 platforms. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sold over 1.15 million copies in the U.S. between the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions of the title alone during the September period.

The Dark Side is fun

The game's success has been truly meteoric, and LucasArts reported worldwide sales of 1.5 million units of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed in only five days. This gave the game the heady title of "fastest selling Star Wars title ever." With well over 4.3 million copies of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed already shipped, LucasArts is planning more good news for the title in less than a week.

"The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games," said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts in a release. "We're blown away by the response to the game."

You don't know the power of the Dark Side!
The basic concept of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has been described by the team at LucasArts as "kicking someone's ass with the Force;" a crude approximation, but accurate. To put it in comparative gaming terms, The Force Unleashed is like a Star Wars analog for God of War. Starkiller, the game's protagonist, uses elaborate lightsaber combos, powerful Force abilities and even engages in the odd quick-time event for larger enemies (like slicing an AT-ST in half, to use a particularly cool example) making for a truly modern 3D action game in the Star Wars universe.

Drawing many people to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, however, is the story. Featuring a collection of characters both familiar (Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Bail Organa) and new (Starkiller, Juno Eclipse, Rahm Kota), the story deals with hunting down rogue Jedi and ultimately forming the Rebel Alliance. Consultations with George Lucas and his staff made sure the game filled the gap in established cannon properly.

Critics regarded Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as something of a mixed bag. The controls for the game were admonished (Zero Punctuation said lightsaber combat was like "trying to follow an aerobics routine with both your arms tied to different windmills") along with the general lack of deadliness of Starkiller's lightsaber. While the physics for the game were impressive in some ways, they were also criticized as buggy and "loose." The acting was generally praised, but the story itself drew mixed reactions, some saying it tied together the two trilogies in an unintuitive, contrived manner. The review averages for most versions of the game generally hovered around 70 percent on GameRankings.com.

"After the credits roll, Force Unleashed isn't the end-all, be-all interactive Star Wars experience but it manages to showcase some interesting new game technology and is a mostly fun virtual slugfest that's worth killing a few hours to experience," reads GameDaily's 7-out-of-10 review by Libe Goad. "It will at least inspire you to dust off those Star Wars DVDs and relive the magic all over again."

Claim your destiny
As LucasArts' biggest release of the year, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was heavily promoted across all media. The marketing included a fairly extensive TV campaign, emphasizing the role as Darth Vader's apprentice and your Force abilities, along with subtle measures, like Starkiller's inclusion in Soul Calibur IV. The game's release also came during a heavy promotional period for Star Wars in general, as the Clone Wars animated movie and accompanying TV series were debuting in roughly the same time period.

While the long worked on Force Unleashed is out and is already a bona fide success, it's unclear what future there is for the franchise. Reports have suggested mass layoffs from LucasArts, and the company may look to license out future projects to outside developers. The story for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed also does not lend itself to a direct sequel, unless LucasArts is willing to wander into the realm of "non-cannon." However, we're confident of one thing: so long as there is Star Wars, there will be Star Wars games.

Though it's fun unleashing the Force, wouldn't it be better if you could unleash the Force while pretending you're a good Jedi that has completely lost his mind? The people at LucasArts seem to think so: They'll be releasing new costumes for The Force Unleashed's single-player campaign this fall, including Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Kit Fisto. We've put an "in-game" picture of Fisto after the break, but he looks more like he's been pasted in from the cover of a Star Wars novel.

And later this year, look for a new mission in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where the Apprentice will "learn more about his father, and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building he must confront his inner demons."

Neither the price nor specific dates for either of the DLC packs has yet been unlea-- err, revealed. We'll keep you posted.

My nephew got this game for the Wii and I played it a little....it's a lot of fun with the Wii controls, but I noticed some little differences in the levels and such.

Started TFU on Saturday and finished up on Sunday.  Nice game, but blah - I won't be playing it again even though I couldn't get enough of frying up all of those Stormies.  Glad I finally got around to playing it as I now have a good connection with what Hasbro released and it makes me appreciate the figs that much more.  Killing Vader just seemed....so wrong, but somehow I managed to become the Emperor's new friend.

Did you play both endings?

Did you play both endings?

No - wouldn't the other ending just play out with me not killing innocent people?  Not sure I want to spend another 8 hours or so on this game.

You can just load the Death Star level over again. All you have to do is walk over to the Emperor at the end rather than trying to finish off Vader.

Not sure if anyone has else out there has been holding off buying this or not, but I noticed that Amazon has the Wii version listed for $19.99 now...

I guess it's worth $20... I've played through it twice, and I paid $60 + the cost of the extra mission and skins.

Some new downloadable content was released today, at least for the 360 (and maybe the PS3 as well, I don't know):

Jedi Temple Mission Pack ~ 800 points/$10

Quote
The Apprentice Mission Pack contains an entirely new single-player mission set in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant.  In this mission Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice turns to the Jedi Temple to learn more about his father, and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building he must confront his inner demons... Download this mission pack and you’ll also get 6 brand new characters and 3 all new Secret Apprentice costumes.

This is the Deal of the Week on XBox Live this week.  Half-off, 400 points, $5, whatever, for Gold members only.

There's also five new Achievements posted which indicate some upcoming downloadable content, probably revolving around original trilogy-era Tatooine:

Probably an announcement during Comic Con.

Interesting.  I figured they'd abandoned this game.

LONDON, UK– 24th July, 2009 - LucasArts today announced that their hit videogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will see further expansion this Fall through a new downloadable level for the Xbox 360â video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATIONâ3 computer entertainment system. In addition, the company also announced Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, a special new version of the game for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, that will show gamers the deepest, darkest side of the Force in a story that puts them on a collision course with Luke Skywalker himself. Available this holiday season at retail stores, The Ultimate Sith Edition will include all of the original missions found in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as well as content previously only available via download and an all-new exclusive bonus level*.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force and casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice,” unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy seen through the eyes of a mysterious new character armed with unprecedented powers. Originally released in September 2008, the game quickly became the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever, and has since sold six million units worldwide.

About the Tatooine Downloadable Content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Available this Fall via direct download from the Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network and the PlayStation®Network, this new downloadable mission continues the story of The Force Unleashed in a new “Infinities” storyline that takes the Star Wars Saga in an entirely new and unexpected direction.

The mission begins at the end of the story of The Force Unleashed and re-imagines the Star Wars Saga as if the Secret Apprentice had killed Darth Vader and taken his place at the Emperor’s side, becoming the most powerful Sith Lord in the universe. The story picks up as the Emperor sends his new apprentice to the planet Tatooine to dispatch Obi-Wan Kenobi — who has been hiding on the planet ever since the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. During their hunt for the reclusive Jedi, players will also explore the depths of Jabba the Hutt’s palace and encounter notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett.

The Ultimate Sith Edition will indeed include an all-new Hoth level which is exclusive to that disc:

Quote
LucasArts has announced that the "Ultimate Sith Edition" of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will hit this fall on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac, bringing with it two new levels in the Star Wars Infinity canon. One, set on Tatooine, will see Vader's apprentice hunting down and battling Obi-Wan Kenobi, making a stop at Jabba the Hutt's palace along the way. For the other, which takes place on Hoth, the apprentice has become the master, and -- wearing the Vader-esque armor seen above -- scraps with with Luke Skywalker himself.

The Hoth mission will be exclusive to the Ultimate Sith Edition of the game
; the Tatooine mission, however, will be offered as paid DLC on PS3 and 360 for owners of the less-than-ultimate original game. Additionally, the new edition will include all previously released DLC for The Force Unleashed on disc, including the Jedi Temple mission and various player skins.

I'm so glad I never ponied up for this game the first time around!

Wow, that's kind of lame. They had better not try to pass that off at full price. So I guess I'd better not buy the Tatooine DLC in case I decide to buy the **** Sith Edition. I guess I maybe should try to sell my existing copy then. ::)

Yeah, it's really lame.  I'm sure it'll be full price at first, but hopefully the sales will be horrible and it'll drop like a rock soon after.  I wouldn't be too surprised to see the Hoth level released as separate DLC sometime after the disc is released.

By the way, the current trade-in value on TFU at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_vg?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames-tradein&field-keywords=force+unleashed&x=0&y=0) is around $6-8 across the major platforms.  That'll probably drop pretty soon, too, as I'm sure a lot of people will want to unload their copies while they still can.

I'll buy the extra DLC, but no way I'm buying this game twice for an extra mini-mission.

Somehow I have a feeling the Hoth level will also be DLC a month or two after the Ultimate Sith Edition is released.

Target has TFU on sale this week for $19.99 and I was going to rebuy it for my PS3, but I guess I'll just hold out for the extra levels this November.

Amazon has the new edition for $35... great price if you haven't already got it. I'm waiting for the DLC to hit the PSN, as well. You know it'll be there, eventually. Meanwhile, I've gotten a handful of trophies - sort of fun replaying the game. Finally got the alternate ending - now that was neat.

Forgive me for my misunderstanding of the game

but does anyone know how to activate the duel mode in the pc version (tfu plus dlc 2009)?

Does this option need a cheat word / password?

or maybe there isn´t any duel option for characters in the pc version?

thanks in advance

I'm replaying TFU at the moment as well. I keep telling myself "30 minutes, that's it", but often I loose track of time and end up playing for 2.5 hours or so  ;D The trophies are a nice touch, but not really my kind of thing.

I´ve been playing Tfu PC version and I noticed that Proxy voice sounds like Leebo´s in SOTE.

this game takes 24.6 gigas of hard disc when installed

other feature:

you can´t play 2 different missions, the most recent one erases the first misiion you have been played.

I recently checked X-box live and both extra levels of TFU Sith edition are available.  It's for 800 Microsoft points each so about $20 total.

I played through the Tatooine level already and it's pretty fun.
