Title: Legacy Novels
Post by: Artoo on September 4, 2006, 06:29 PM
Let's discuss the new book series.
I haven't read any yet, but I plan to. This Jacen dark side thing sort of makes the OT useless though. :-\

not really, i think we only haft to take half of what Lumiya says as truth, its quite frankly the return of the sith. Lumiya was always a hothead and i guess she finnally learned to chill out and think up a plot. or so were to believe. but Jacen turning to the dark side seems natural to me,but i really hope he turns out to be Darth Krayt.

my moneys on Nom Anor OR Asajj Ventress. otherthan that it had better not be the Emperor(again) or Darth Maul or i'll burn all my eu.....

Darn! I'm so far behind in the novels and Comics too!

I'm drooling to read them all, time to get a library card!  oh and finished the 4 books I'm reading at the same time...gosh that's an annoying thing to do!

Im about 2 books away from finishing NJO, then Im going straight into Dark Nest, and Legacy.

Jacen Solo has become a favorite of mine, I like his darker edge. I'm still not quite sure about some of the rumors that I have heard about Legacy thus far. I have puropsefully stayed away from spoilers, but every now and then one slips past my radar. I beleive he may be Darth Krayt myself, but that remains to be seen. I will comment more on this as I read the series.

I hope Asajj. She seemed to disapear w/o a death. Yes if it is Maul or Palps I will be upset.

Maybe Grievous! Grievous is one of my favorite characters. Maybe a Nemodian or Geonosian cloned him.  ;D

Gotta be Aurra... I'd love it to be her.... small possibility that it could be Asajj... as far as I've read in the comics, she hasn't been confirmed dead.   I don't see N-K in it at all....

Maybe a clone Nute Gunray! Would that be a shocker. Of course he'd probally never want to get mixed up in war again.:P
Long ago....hmmm... HK-47 would be cool too, since he's supposedly still running on Mustafar a little bit after ROTS.

i gotta say i was really psyched about this book, but in the long run (including the exile preview) it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, in the sense that i've kinda lost all hope for the rest of the series topping this first trilogy. and this really felt more like a middle chapter than the conclusion of the first trilogy of this series. there are many upsides here many great battles, way too many near misses, and nobody really important dies(SPOILER: Lumiya has rejoined the ranks of dead unseen bodies), regarding exile i'm extremely underwhelmed by this preview. after the tempest preview in Bloodlines was expecting to be counting the hours before its release as i was with tempest, also read it in one day. aside from the Crowning jacen as a sith lord(Darth Emo, to think i once hoped you where darth krayt!) in the 5th Sacrifice(i guess he's gonna kill someone? could it be his parents whom bought him every werid pet they could find while evading the imps all those years) there isen't really that much shocking and or interesting stuff supposed to happen in exile. Tempest i'm sure with a second sitting will be alot better, especially when i read all three in order after i finish the swarm war (3rd read)

ps, lumiyas mention of other sith kinda seems like a retcon patchjob to link up with the Legacy comics.

another sour note is the mirroring our real depressing world with the starwars universe. hopefully exile is that final of note music before the wicked witch busts outta the floor in the wizard of Oz, a last shining of hope before the Sacrice......

I'm currently in the middle of Bloodlines. I wonder how Fett will get an appearance in the future novels.

is it me or does mara Jade look more like Famke Janssen than Shannon Baksa, not that i'm complaining. i think Famke would make a great mara jade, its just kinda werid after we hear ford was offered a starwars spinoff(probably 7,8,& 9) and now we get a book cover with her clearly based after Famke Janssen.

I just finished book three.  I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not read it yet, but I did enjoy it.

The series is great so far.

I'm really looking forward to read this series. I have book 2 and 3 BUT i haven't been able to find a paperback version of betrayal. Is it only out in hardcover? and if so does anyone know when a paperback copy will be released ? :-\

I finished Exile last night.  Another excellent book.  It will be very interesting to see where the story goes from here.

{spoilers}

personally i must say i feel that Ben went into his Sith test a total novice and came out a JEDI!

for me that was just great. having hated Ben since dark nest, this was a real treat after having to read about Luke skywalkers blithering idiot son for like three books.

I've stated many times that i was not excited about Exile in the least bit. but finding it four days early really made me enjoy it all the more, another great thing to me was the way that unlike Tempest it jump started the story and actually went somewhere.

but when it comes to future editions in this series i don't wanna even try and figure out where its going. because quite frankly its gone everywhere I've not expected so far, and I'm generally pleased with that sort of thing making a return to the Starwars mythos.

I finished Sacrifice the other day.  Very good book, although rough ending.

I read Sacrifice today and it was a really good read. The death in the book was really well handled and sad. It was also nice to see Ben becoming more of a man and less of a whiny little kid ( it's reminiscent of Luke's Journey throughout the OT). My only crticism of the books as a series is tha there is almost too much going on. I feel like all that stuff about Fett could be it's own separate book. In the future it would be nice to see the focus be on maybe 4-5 characters as opposed to what feels like 7-12 (Like Tatooine Ghost which just focused on Han and Leia.)

I read Fury in two days.  Great book aith lots of action.  Alston also did a great job with Ben halping Luke still dealing with his grief over losing Mara as well as the Jag and Jaina storyline.  I have a feeling that they will be a couple again by the end of the series.

I also enjoyed it quite a bit.   Hopefully Jag/Jaina can hook up again... anything but Zekk!   I really like Alson's writing style

"Do you even know how to use a lightsaber."
"I know lesson one."
"Don't grab the glowy end."

Great Line!!!!!!!!!

I loved that line as well.  I like how they've evolved Jag's character where he is still very rigid, but also, he's allowed a few cracks in his facade due to being exiled from the Chiss ascendancy.

I finished Revelation yesterday and it was another enjoyable read.  The next paragraph will contain spoilers so read on at your own risk.

I liked the idea of Jaina going to Mandalore to learn fighting styles from Boba Fett and the rest of the Mandalorians.  In the next, and final, book I look forward to her using that berserker technique she learned from Beviin.  It was also neat to see the Mandalorians in action as a fighting unit in the battle of Fondor.  That entire battle was really cool how it unfolded with Admiral Niathal getting Fondor to surrender and then Caedus continuing to press his advantage and preparing to bomb more cities.  Also using Tahiri to kill Admiral Paelleon (I'm going to miss that character) and putting the the Imperial remnant into a civil war.  It was also cool to see Admiral Daala make an appearance and kick quite a bit of ass with her fleet.  I have  feeling we haven't seen the last of her in this series.

It was also interesting to see Ben and Shevu put together a case for Mara's murder against Caedus.  I'm glad too that FINALLY we see a force ghost when Mara appeared to Ben at the crime scene and then again to Luke at the end of the book.  I have been hoping for this since Anakin was killed in the NJO series.

It's going to be a long wait for the final book in June.

Agreed on the long wait for Invincible. (and more spoilers to follow...)

These writers seem to have it in for Tim Zahn's characters...first Leia's Noghri bodyguards, then Mara Jade, and now Pellaeon...and I'd wager either Jacen or Jaina will have to die in the end. Thankfully Tallon Karrde decided to sit this series out, or I'm sure he'd have died by now.

Aaron Allston's books were a pleasure to read thus far (I love his take on Lando, and the humor he brings to the situation...ie the Looooove Commander.) Troy Denning's entries have been a real chore, though, I absolutely couldn't take one more Alema Rar POV passage, so I'm hoping Invincible is worth it.

Karen Traviss has been the middle of the road for me. I haven't really gotten excited about all the Mando stuff, and unfortunately she got the character of Pellaeon completely wrong. I found myself really brought out of the story quite a few times with his reaction to Jacen's control of the fleet. Seeing as he was on hand for (and very outspoken against) Thrawn's use of C'Baoth's fleet coordinating skills, I found it completely unbelievable that he would be so surprised by Jacen's actions. I was hoping for at least some acknowledgement that Pellaeon was aware of the power of a Jedi gone dark, but I guess Traviss didn't read those books to know. At least know the characters you're killing off.

I agree a lot with what you say Muftak however to say that they "killed off" Pellaeon doesn't make sense. I loved his character and will miss him, but he was 92ish years old. He had to die soon and I'd much rather he go the way he did than to find out he had a stroke two years later.

And I miss Mara but big characters have to go sometime otherwise there is no drama when they are in bad situations if you know they will always make it through.

I enjoy the Mando stuff, but felt it would have fit in its own book better than cramming it into these books ever so often when Traviss was the author.

And anything is better than the Killik books!!!!!!!

I picked up and just finished the final book in the series Invincible.  It was as good read with an odd ending, I'll talk more about it after more of you have finished it.
