PenDragon has donated his time and energy to create an official web site for this project. This will be a place where we can archive all our pictures and news. The forums will of course stay here. The site will be used mostly for advertising, picture galleries and donation collection.
This is from PenDragon....
OK, web space is go Ya know, if you want the ULTIMATE GROUP PROJECT to have it's on web site, and all....
My little 'company,' the JackPoint (t-j-p.net), has just upgraded its server & I can go ahead & create the Domain Name any time y'all'd like.
Master P's given me plenty of ideas to work on for the lay out & content. So now, I just need to know what you'd like the name to be (<insert name here>.t-j-p.net)!
Oh, and when you're going to want it up by. Cuz, damn, I'm gonna be busy as all heck for the next 3 months. So if anyone want's to help with the coding, lemme know, k?
-
so... are you asking us on input for a name for the site?
-
You betcha. ;)
-
Yes please! ;D
And sorry I didn't post that here too. I'm not even sure I sent you a PM about it, M_P (very sorry if I didn't!). I've just been quite sick for the last few days. My was not, not so much "in the game" as it were. More..."in the toilet." :-X
But yeah, if you guys give me a name, I'll make it happen. And it can be anything! From something as simple as 'http://UGP.t-j-p.net' all the way to 'Wicked_Killer_ULTIMATE_GROUP_PROJECT.t-j-p.net' (though shorter names might be easier for folks to remember...). As long as it's got the '.t-j-p.net' on the end of it, there's no chance that someone else will have taken whatever name you so decide upon.
So, a Website Name, a Time Frame, and offers of help with the coding would all be apprecited.
-
I say number 2 Pendragon. HAHA
-
Here are some possible names I posted over at yak.
ulitmategroupproject.t-j-p.net
or
ugp.t-j-p.net
theworld.t-j-p.net
JuddeLulos.t-j.p.net
phrubyspipedream.t-j.p.net
GeorgeDontSueUs.t-j-p.net
MyNameIsMudIfThisDoesntPanOut.t-j-p.net
-
I Like This One:
JuddeLulos.t-j.p.net
-
how about
the _(insert name of planet here)_ project.
example
The Endor project or the Ord Mantell project.net
-
The name of the planet is Judde Lulos.
Judde_Lulos_Project.t-j-p.net
I think I still like UGP.t-j-p.net instead.
-
I Like This One:
JuddeLulos.t-j.p.net
I like this too, mainly cause I think it'd help all around, before C4, and after, people will ahve a name to attach to the project, and in turn attach to the site.
-
Good point.
-
weneedhelptopayforthis.t-j-p.net
Just kidding :P
-
there WILL be a PayPal donation function built into this site.... ;)
And, as sort of a 'heads up':
For the webmaster & officers of this project, I can give you each an '@thejackpoint.com' email addresses to use on the website (or, really, any way that you see fit). And we can even set it up so that the '@thejackpoint.com' addresses just forward emails to your regular email addys.
The reason I offer these up, is so that you won't have to put your real addresses on a web site - which normally attracts all kinds of crap to your inbox.
Either way, if this is a 'C4 only' thing, then i'd like to suggest the name:
projectC4.t-j-p.net
-
Yah, I like that. Lets call it projectC4.t-j-p.net.
-
UGP.t-j-p.net
The fewer leters the better....
Then on the main page ULTIMATE GROUP PROJET
"JUDDE LULOS"
-
I rather like ProjectC4 myself.
Now that my self imposed exile is over Ive got a lot of catching up to do. I thank everyone for their patience. :-[
-
YEAH, ENNIS IS BACK. Great to have you back buddy.
-
w00t! Glad to have ya back man.
-
We need to completely decide on the UGP's official web site name. Here are some suggestions. Please pm me you choice. Your welcome to name a new one in this thread.
UGP.t-j-p.net
Wicked_Killer_ULTIMATE_GROUP_PROJECT.t-j-p.net
ulitmategroupproject.t-j-p.net
theworld.t-j-p.net
JuddeLulos.t-j.p.net
projectC4.t-j-p.net
-
what, no george don't take us to court??
Um i say UGP.t-j-p.net
-
ulitmategroupproject.t-j-p.net
I like this one the best because it's what I've been calling it in my head. UGP could be a lot of things, so it's nice to see it written out.
-
I can go with either of these.
UGP.net
ultimategroupproject.net
Juddelulos.net
though I am partial to the second one. Im a lot like Jediknight on that.
-
There is an actual vote counter over at Yak if you want to use it. Otherwise, just pm me your vote.
-
ulitmategroupproject.t-j-p.net
This is my vote.
-
This is great! Thanks for setting it up, MP - and thanks everyone for voting here & at YakFace!
BTW, how long do we have the voting open for? And how will we reconcile the the votes here & at Yak?
Perhaps just limiting the voting to the Yak Poll (http://cgi.denpetersen.com/YAK1/viewtopic.php?t=777) might keep thing cleaner?
-
Let's say until monday for voting. Send your votes to the counter at yak or PM me.
-
It looks like the official web site name will be:
ulitmategroupproject.t-j-p.net
-
UPDATE:
Ok guys, it looks like one of my commitments MIGHT be fading out soon. And the UGP site is next in line :D
I don't want to make any promises I can't keep, so I won't commit to this right now, but i'll keep y'all updated as I find out more.
Also, Chewie made some nice banners over at Yakface. And I'll be working on a few things here & there when I get the chance, but if anyone would like to offer up some help with the ArtWork, or Web Site, that'd be awesome! ;D
(http://www.yakface.com/toyguide/dioramas/chewie/092606UGPred.jpg)
-
I LOVE that banner- very clever!
-
It is our destiny!
-
Don't worry Pen. I'm working on some graphic ideas too.
-
We are in desparate need to get the UGP web site up and running ASAP. I'm having difficulty dealing with the LFL and Gencon burocracy and I need to show them something besides a series of threads on two web sites. I would suggest that all work stop on diorama and figure design and we put all of our efforts toward getting this site up and running. All we really need is a main page with a description and pictures of our work in progress buildings and prototypes.
-
I second this - however I have no idea how to create a web page. If someone has time and knowledge we really need to get this on the ball. I know that Pendragon had been wanting to get this set up, but I do not think he has had the time to get it rolling.
:)
-
OK, it's official. I can say that next week, I will have .... spare time(gasp!)!
I'll start doing some work on it 1 week from today.
-
I went ahead and merged all the website talk into one thread.
I'm glad you have got time to start on this soon Pen, I'll do what I can to help though I know almost nothing about coding.
-
I've got some Illustrator experience, so if it's a logo or sorts that you are in need of to make the site flashy, perhaps I can work on one for you.
-
Gah, if this had been 2 years ago I would still remember how to HTML coding, curse my short memory.
-
We now have a deadline for getting the web site up and running. (even initally)
NOVEMBER 17, 2006
This is the day fan group submissions MUST be submitted for C4.
-
GAH!!!
Er, no worries mate, I begin work tomorrow night! ;D
And it seems that we have at least 4 others willing to share their talent & time on this. So I'll be contacting folks as soon as I get a solid plan together.
We WILL, at very least, have a front page designed, hosted, & visible before the 17th.
Guess this makes me the web team manager, huh?
I don't mean to appoint myself, and if anyone else desperately wants this, by all means, go to it! But I think we're gonna need some organization to this, and I've finally got the time to devote to it, so I volunteer. 8)
-
I guess you just kind of inherited the job. ;)
-
Welcome to the UGP Staff team Pen. :P Did you get my PM???
adam
-
yes I did - and thank ye! i mentioned a little more on it at Yak, and i'll be doing some follow up on it sometime this week. 8)
-
Any chance we can get a simple screen up by monday? Maybe just chewie's banner and a description of the project?
-
I can help with the webpage as well Haven't been that involved in the UGP yet, but I help with any of web building if needed.
-
Any chance we can get a simple screen up by monday? Maybe just chewie's banner and a description of the project?
Absolutely 8)
Phalanxx, thanks for the offer, man! I'll be contacting you & others this week :)
-
I wish I knew anything about web design. I feel so useless. :-[
-
No worries man, yer doin' enough already 8)
Anywho, whatda ya think of the following? - I'm kinda new to Flash, so any constructive crit is welcome:
opening banner (http://thejackpoint.com/banner4.html)
-
Drop RS from it and it's fine. There isn't any activity going onm over there so they shouldn't get any credit for it.
-
I think it looks awesome. But I agree with Ryan, drop the RS from it. They havent contributed a damn thing to this. Provided thet they are still going to sponsor us, I'd suggest replacing RS with Good To Go customs.
BTW are they still going to sponsor us?
-
Well, I'll come from a different angle. I know the past issue and agree with the addition of GTG, but I think the RS should be kept. I saw the flash as an "invitation" for the pitch, a kind of reaching across party lines to secure a spot for the project. What happens after approval and securing the spot at C4 is another issue. We are looking for approval for the booth at the Star Wars Fan Celebration, not a statement on the past, right?
Still love you guys ;D
Mike
-
I like the flash animation especially the ending title and font. Very 70'ish. If you say we should remove RS from it then FFURG should be removed too since we don't have a presence there.
However, I've got to agree with Sarge in that this banner is a good invitiation to have others join us. As we get closer to C4, I would like to have news blips put on all the star wars fan sites about the project. Showing these home banners on our banner as an invitation promotes good will and inclusiveness. I know, no matter how much I can't stand RS and its politics, I think we need to include RS and maybe Commando Customs and the Custom Alliance on the banner.
I like the length of the flash animation. It gets the point across. Maybe there can be two animations that play randomly when someone opens the page?
-
I like the banner even with the all the other sites rolling through. However, Jedi Defender and Yakface should be the top two to start it off since that is where the primary hub of activity is located.
-
And I can agree with Brent on that. The main focus sites should be the starters.
MIke
-
Well, since you put it that way ( thanks Sarge ;)) I'm more inclined to agree. RS has certainly grown up a little in the last couple of months, and they have at least given us a few good people. So I think it should stay.
-
I like the banner... It ties the star wars customizing community together and shows that the project is bigger than just one site.
-
Just to let you guys know. The preliminary web site design is live and kicking. See it at the link in my signature. Send pendragon any problems you see.
-
INcredible Pendragon, it looks great. keep up the good work.
-
The web page is fabulous!! IT brought a tear to my eye. Man I can't wait to see the rest of it.
-
It looks great Pen. I still think either RS needs to be dropped from the banner or at least be put last in the rotation as Brent suggested, as they have absolutely nothing to do with this project. JD and Yak then should be bumped to the front. Personally I'd prefer having only JD, Yak, and FFURG on there, as they are the only sites that the UGP has a presence on. If we want to include the whole customizing community we'd have to add Galactic Hunter, TheJawa, and a few others. I think at that point it is overkill, and the banner would take too long to get to the point.
The background looks great right now. You did a real good job combining all the differnet elements to get one complete image.
Right now I'm noticing the text that belongs in the text box there is actually off to the right and is only about halfway inside the box. I tried reloading the page several times to see if it just goofed the first time, but it never loaded correctly.
Other than those two little flaws, it all looks great so far.
-

I sent Pendragon a PM about this issue. He said it is browser specific and he's trying to figure it out/correct it.
-
Hey there.
Ahhh shucks :-[ Thanks for the feedback guys! ;D I'm glad you like it!
As far as the off-to-the-right scroll problem goes, I'll be working on it tomorrow night. I just did a site last month with the same effect, and it worked fine in IE, so I'm not certain where the problem lies. But heck, if I got it to work right once, it will work once more, I'm sure of it ;)
For right now, FireFox does it up proper, and I'll add that disclaimer to the page.
Now, about the banner....
I added RS so as to include the fan site that the big H seems to be the most accutly aware of (hopefully that'll give us more clout). I also did it for a feeling of inclusion. BUT, I also placed it strategically in the middle.
I did this because, according to my psych & graphics proffesors, people tend to remember the first & last things they see in a series of like objects. And the last thing we see, we remember the most.
Also, Yak & JD last a few frames longer up on the screen, and JD has the most time - being that it's were everything started.
Feel free to shoot me down or back me up on this tho! I have no problem with changing things up. Nothing here is set in stone. Besides, I'm just going on half-remembered stuff from college - it's been a couple years, and I could very easily be wrong...
It happens - from time to time. ;)
-
UPDATE: The website, (u-g-p.com (http://u-g-p.com), ugp.t-j-p.net (http://ugp.t-j-p.net), or ultimategroupproject.t-j-p.net (http://ultimategroupproject.t-j-p.net)) now works on IE - at least from my computer ;D
Thanks for the heads up to evrery one who let me know about the InternetExplorer catch, and please let me know if you run into any more problems.
Thanks - Tom
PS - Elmeaux, Smarty, and Patreek, you got email - ya know... finally :-[
-
It's still off to the right for me... :-\
I'm using IE6 if that helps.
-
it does 8)
Have you tried hitting the F5 key or the Ctrl+r combo?
-
Much better. 8)
-
It's working properly for me now. Way to go!!
-
site looks very nice, but how about changing that frame into a scrolling text to tell the story just like the movies. ;)
-
Thanks DmG!
Great minds must think alike ;) I've been working on that very idea when I've had some free time.... In the end, it should be a nice little flash movie with the music & proper scrolling slant - when I figure out how to do it right 8)
Anyone got any tips?
ALSO, from the YAK:
it's looking even better Pendragon!!!
Would it be ok if I took a few pics of some of my customs I've made for it? ;)
Hells yes - and thank ya kindly! As soon as we get the team nailed down, I'll be asking everyone who's made something for the project if they want their stuff put up on the site.
And sorry Brent & Ryan, for not asking you first if I could put up the trees before the site went live... I meant to, and then, well, forgot ::) And they went so very well with the green/blue site colors...
In the end, I'd like to see the background change randomly with shots of the scenery, buldings, and concept art from Brent, Chewie, Patreek (that canyon is very cool), JoeRhyno, Daigo-Bah, Ryan, Glass' and whomever else would like to see their work up there.
-
well without having to use flash, there are java scripts that will do the scrolling slant. Flash sites are nice, but from what I hear they are a pain to build and maintain. Ive never made one in flash myself, which is why I stick to Front Page. 8)
-
well without having to use flash, there are java scripts that will do the scrolling slant.
Oh yeah, js!
Didn't even enter my mind.... you wouldn't happen to know that one off the top of your head would ya?
-
here (http://www.sterlz-web.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/zips.html) :)
-
The site looks great! Feel free to use any custom pics I uploaded for the site of course!
-
Hey Pendragon, I brushed up on HTML coding again, so just let me know what I can do to help
-
PS - Elmeaux, Smarty, and Patreek, you got email - ya know... finally :-[
I never got an email! :o
I've been wondering what was up with this, but the Yakface forum where I first chimed in is always so buggy I can almost never check it. Just happened to end up here today off of a link. Let me know what needs doing.
E>

the Yakface forum where I first chimed in is always so buggy I can almost never check it
I hear that! The only time I'm ever really ok on that site is when I'm using my school's trunk line access. My DSL just aint good enough...
Anyway, emailed & PMed ya, E> - Good to hear from you, man :)
On another note, work has set me back a little, but I've got Saturday free, expect new stuff by saturday evening y'all
-
Sorry about the Yak bugs - it IS a problem and we're working on it. Very sorry about it, once we get moved over to the real Yakface server it shouldn't happen anymore. I thought this was taking place two weeks ago, and it started but for some reason the transition is on hold for a bit. It's not something I really understand the technical aspects of, and I've asked for it to be pushed, and the guys working on it are going as fast as they can.
;)
-
It can be REALY annoying to move a forum over to a new server - if that's what you're Yak_folks are doing. So I can empathize completely the troubles you're having.
Though, maybe you want to ask the folks here at JD about it, seeing as how they apparently just moved everything to SMF (simple machine forums) and seem to have managed to bring over EVERYthing intact. Even the messages.
I could be terribly wrong, but I think the web address is different, and the old forums looked a lot more like ProBoards than SMF, so it's gotta be worth a try....
Anyway, I can't wait to see YakFace with a better forums. Things have really taken off over there despite any bugs, it has quite a bit of customizing traffic now (more than here)!
-
I really don't like to complain, but yeah, the Yak forums are kind of bugging me now. The Q&A had some really interesting questions, but the forums won't load for me to see them.
-
Pen did you see the web site that DmG made for the UGP? What do you think of it? I definately think we can use most of it.
What happen to our web site? It seems to have disappeared?
-
I really don't like to complain, but yeah, the Yak forums are kind of bugging me now. The Q&A had some really interesting questions, but the forums won't load for me to see them.
I've got to agree. The Yak forums are really bugging me too. They take forever to load and never let me post anything. They won't load completely for me.
-
Darn it happened again the site is stuck goign to the TJP main page it did that last week too, pen fixed it but it looks like its broken again.
-
Yup, just caught that earlier - it was my fault, but it's all fixed now ;D
-
I'm so sorry about the forums at Yak as of late, trust me, I don't think anyone has been more frustrated about it than I have been, or our forum creator, Brandon. We did just get some IT support from the host, and they moved it over to another server over the weekend, which should help a lot... or at least that's what they say. It's a temporary thing until the final move is made to the Yakface server (right now we are having a problem with moving that and can't do it for a bit) but I hope that this current one we just switched to works for the time being. So far today it's been great, but heck that's only one day so who knows. But I do have to say despite the problems we've had some good traffic and the customizing section has been really popular. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that most of the problems are in the past now.
Let me know when you guys want, I'll post a front page blurb at Yak and link to the site for some publicity.
;)

Not quite yet ...
We have to get the main page design nailed down, and the individual sections worked out (the navigation links don't work yet because the other sections havn't been made yet).
As such, I'd appreciate any honest comments/suggestions you have on the current homepage layout.
Thanks!
-
No problem, just shoot me an email or a PM when ready.
;)
