Title: LEGO Sales and Deals
Post by: EdSolo on November 10, 2006, 07:10 AM
I'm not sure if this was on every set they had (since there was Jabba's Sail Barge and UCS AT-ST available), but the smaller sets were available for 30% off at my local Toys 'R Us (Newark, DE).

I was at my local Target tonight and they had the Star Destroyer for $67 and Slave 1 for $35 in the clearance aisle.  Jabba's Sail Barge was still full price, but I'm sure that's the next one to go on the block.

In our front page story about Aldi's having the Deluxe Hasbro Figures available, they also have Legos...  The Snowtrooper troop builder pack, and the Freeco Speeder sets were both there, among some other theme sets (non-Star Wars).

Just a heads up to you guys interested in army building Snowtroopers.  They were like $9.99.
Title: Re: LEGO Sale
Post by: iFett on November 3, 2010, 08:08 PM
Target had the army builder packs on sale for $9-$10 for about a month or so and the Freeco is a terrible set even at $19.  It is a sale though so go get em kids!   :)  They also have some Lego city plane or boat for $40....and that's about it.

I placed my order this morning, but may be hosed. After placing an order for the Tantive IV, (on sale for $119), I went back and read the fine print on the arf offer because it hadn't shown up in my cart. Turns out the Tantive may be backordered (it doesn't really say, it just says it may be backorderd), and backorders do not qualify for the ARF. So shop carefully-

Post by: iFett on May 3, 2011, 10:21 AM
I think you're sol Dan.  Might want to call customer service to check, but I'm pretty sure freebies aren't included on backordered or may be back ordered stuff.  Kind of a lame sale for the most part, but I'm tempted to bite on the Tantive as well - don't really care for the ARF guy though so no biggie if I don't get him.  Free shipping is nice, but sucks about tax.
Title: Re: LEGO Sale
Post by: Dan on May 3, 2011, 12:43 PM
I called customer service, and they confirmed it would not be elligible. However, I called the Lego store at Mall of America, and they have the Tantive in stock, same price, and they have the ARF as well! So, the first order is cancelled, and I am taking a lunch run to buy some bricks!

(Edit- successful run! They had several on the shelves, and with some points left on my VIP card, it was $110 after tax!)

So I ended up cancelling my online order for the Tantive yesterday afternoon since some dude named Dan picked me one up locally and what did LEGO end up shipping me last night for free?  A Barf Trooper.  I'll stick him with my chrome stormies somewheres.

If people are curious, Target had a bunch of tags out that said a now out-of-stock Lego set that was on sale can be swapped with in-stock sets, and almost all the in-stock were Star Wars sets you could now get for the sale price.

Anyone else notice this?  Looks really good for getting some sweet SW Lego deals.

And man, the new Knight sets are everythign I always wanted as a kid...  Village **** like blacksmith shops and barns/mills...  Knights with classic medeival armor like norman helmets, chainmail, and that new Sugarloaf helmet is bitchin'.

I feel old but want to buy the village stuff so bad.  I have literally hundreds of mini-figures of the old knight sets going back to the yellow brick knights.  That was easily my favorite way to play with Legos.
Title: Re: LEGO Sale
Post by: JediJman on September 10, 2011, 08:32 AM
I loved the Knight sets as a kid too.  I had that very first yellow castle that opened up, quickly followed by a gray castle for them to do battle with.  The stuff they have today would have been pretty awesome to have back then.  The set I've had my eye on is that $30 catapult set.  How could would it have been to have 3-4 of those for an invading Lego army?

You know that yellow castle set goes for like $400 on Ebay?  I still have those sets at my mom's house.  I was digging through the tub of my old legos a month ago and decided to look it up.  Next time we're there for a few days, we're going to build it, then sell it.  Cool as the castles are, I'd much rather have a Lego Death Star!

Yeah I have that castle (yellow), the jousting set that went with it, and the pack of knights/cart thing from that same era, all either mint with their complete boxe/packaging, or mint with the box in some worn shape (smaller sets).  The castle is awesome.  Those knights rocked.

So I sort of stopped buying Lego stuff about 3 and a half years ago, but recently decided to try to get (reasonably) caught up on the OT stuff that I'm missing... of course, the longer you get from when something stops being on store shelves, the more expensive it seems to get.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting reasonable deals on older sets?  Maybe a forum with a buy/sell/trade for Star Wars lego (or lego in general)...  I know there's eBay... I've been checking Amazon and have found some pretty good deals there.  And I know you can generally do better buying open sets rather than sealed ones.

Just wondering if there was any other places worth looking I guess.

I ended up ordering the Death Star for my son direct from Lego.  They have 10% off and free shipping over $150, and included an exclusive holiday skating and horse carriage set as well.  I got 400the points for future purchases and Discover had 5%to off online purchases, so a pretty good deal overall.
Title: Re: LEGO Sale
Post by: Rob on November 21, 2012, 05:52 PM
Thanks.  I'll look into that forum.

Justin, the last thing I ordered direct from Lego was the Sandcrawler - so it's been awhile, but that's another good idea, especially if they have 10% off.  I waltzed over to the Lego store today just to get my head wrapped around which items I skipped are in stores now and what is already long gone.  I thought that Death Star used to be $299, now it's $399?

I was shocked at some of the prices these sets are going for nowadays - especially in the box.  It's got me thinking that if I ever plan on getting caught up, it's best not to wait any longer.

I ordered the UCS Imperial Shuttle and B-Wing today from Amazon for $229 and $149 respectively.  With no tax and free shipping, it seemed like as good a deal as I could find.
Title: Re: LEGO Sale
Post by: JediJman on November 22, 2012, 12:29 AM
Rob - are you a Lego VIP member?  If you're planning to buy online or at Legoland, that's a great way to save some money.  Everything you buy direct gets you points, which are redemable for cash off future sets.  They have periodic specials like double points as well.

If you're looking for current sets, I would hold out for some of the TRU sales.  They often have buy one get one 50% off.  Even if the set is priced a little higher than other stores, that usually nets some nice savings if you're buying two big sets.  Good luck - hope you can find some good deals!
Title: Re: LEGO Sale
Post by: Diddly on November 22, 2012, 07:13 PM
LEGO VIP is an AWESOME deal, as every dollar you spend gains you a point, and for every 100 points you get you get a $5 off coupon you can use whenever. The only negative is that you're limited to buying from LEGO's website or LEGO Stores, and they don't put much on sale like brick and mortar stores do. But the points add up quick. I bought the UCS R2-D2 in May and that was almost $200, and with some Marvel stuff I bought, I have $10 waiting to be used.

As for getting old sets, it's tough, because once a set goes out of production it's pretty much gone forever and if you missed out, prepare to pay a bundle. So you're pretty much SOL on those.

Thanks guys.  I'll look into that too.  I checked Walmart, Target, and TRU this weekend just to get a feel of what's going on and what the prices are like... the TRU I went into was much more expensive than the other stores.  I was surprised by how much variation I found.  Sets that were $12.99 on Amazon were $16.49 at TRU... things like the Skiff that is $19.97 on Amazon, was $24.99 at Target, and $32 at TRU.  I bought the TIE Fighter at Walmart for $34.99 - it's $59.99 on TRU's their website and that's Amazon's price too).

So yeah, I'm surprised by the extreme variation here.  Maybe I stumbled into sales for the big shopping holiday?

Various sets on clearance at Target... Series 1 of the Planet/Figure/Mini Ship sets at varying prices. I snagged the Death Star and Tatooine at $6.99 and $4.99 respectively, no sign of Naboo. I also saw other clearance stickers in random places in the LEGO aisle but they were really picked over.

I'm guessing stock and prices will vary by store.

That's a great price for the B-Wing, but I was hoping for a better deal on the rest of the stuff.  I suppose 10% off plus VIP points plus Hoth Han is still a pretty good deal, but still not sure if I'll pull the trigger on this one.  Any advantage to going in store versus buying online?

Grabbed the May 2016 calendar when I was at the Lego Store tonight. The "May the Fourth" promotions actually are going to start on April 30th (that's the Saturday closest to the 4th). That will be the day the Assault on Hoth UCS set becomes available as well as the Stormtrooper Minifigure Polybag which you can get for free with Star Wars purchases of $50 or more.

Lastly, starting on the 30th and running through May 4th, you'll get double VIP points on all your Lego Star Wars purchases and you will get a Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie poster with every Star Wars purchase.

Stopped in a Walmart over the weekend and saw they were clearancing out a bunch of older LEGO sets from every line. For Star Wars, I saw the FO TIE Fighter for $49, Resistance Troop Transporter for $49, and the Millennium Falcon for $109. They also had the Buildable Figurines for $15-20. Now this store is smaller and didn't have any of those System sets, but it might be worth trekking out to your local store.

Target has a general 20% off sale going on right now for most Star Wars Legos.  They've also got a buy $50 and get a $10 gift card that applies to Legos, including advent calendars.  And you can add your 5% Red Card discount with free shipping.

I've placed three different orders this morning to keep cashing in on the gift cards.  Ultimately its allowed me to hit between 30-40% discount, which is pretty good for Legos.

Maybe its just me, but Lego sets seem to be way too expensive these days.  Either that or they're less interesting or I've just got way too many already.

I've got tons of Star Wars Lego sets (I'm a fan), but even for $90 this seems kind of expensive for a black tower, Darth Vader's TIE, and some mini-figures.

I've seen a bunch of other ones marked down throughout the year at 30% off, and often still don't feel like there is enough value.

Agreed. I get every set so I went ahead and picked it up at the $90 price tag which is A LOT better than the $130 price tag. I had one on backorder from Lego Shop@Home and I had it cancelled since they couldn't price match Amazon.

It's absolutely not just you Dave. I used to buy every set but I'm a year behind since most of the Last Jedi sets were too expensive, and then vanished from store shelves. The only sets I want from Solo are the TIE and the Falcon but that's like $250 total.
