Title: 30AC #34 Darth Revan
Post by: David on December 4, 2006, 07:36 PM
So, on that otheR Site they've got pics of the Revan sculpt from a recent Toyfare. If you dont remember, this is the KOTOR Sith Lord that won the Fan's Choice. It looks like a decent sculpt to me. Detailed, arm articulation in the pic is all I can see and it looks good. Your thoughts?

I love it! I'm actually playing the game again for the third time, and so far this figure looks excellent!

Meh.  I'm still disappointed that he was picked as the winner...  :(

The figure itself doesn't look too bad, but I guess I'm just not overly excited for it personally since I'm not familiar with the character (or game).  Great for those who voted for this figure though.

I am all over this figure!  Sorry to those of you that aren't interested in it/don't like it.  To me, the more bad guys the better, EU or not!  But here's to hoping that Hasbro goes the extra mile on this and does the coloring appropriately as well.  I'd hate to see them put out a great sculpt only to have them miss the mark once it's painted.

I'm really just glad that we are finally getting a 'Darth' that isn't the 4th or 5th re-release of the same figure...

'cough' 500th Vader 'cough'

He's a cool character don't get me wrong, but I'm just not familiar with his backstory.  I agree though, I'd rather have this guy than another TSC Vader...

As a 30 year old fan who hates the vast majority of EU and is only a casual gamer, I can tell you that this character has a very interesting back story. Any of you who has an Xbox or PC should play this game...its more like Star Wars that the PT at times.

I agree with Lando that, unless you really just don't care for EU in general, the game really does play out fantastic and you'll probably like the story...  I think it's worth playing through and getting to know the character(s) in it but that's me.

The figure looks fantastic I think...  hasbro has a real quality looking sculpt there.  When I do my reviews the sculpt is generally the first aspect of any action figure I start picking apart.  Not often does Hasbro drop the ball, but it does happen on occassion.  But this figure looks really to be above par in terms of little details...  Kudos to them for a fine job on that.

Articulation looks as good as can be too...  For the character, that's appropriate (and short of softgoods, which would need to be overly elaborate, this is as good as it could get I think) and I'm pleased...

I didn't want him to win either, and having ONE KOTOR figure bugs the **** out of me...  even just two would bug me.  You need more  to make it really count IMO, but at least what they are offering is looking like a good toy anyway.

Suspended animation will solve all your continuity problems, my friend! ;)

He'll look great on my Sith Lords shelf.

I think the KOTOR lineup would have been a much better choice that the Marvel repaint catastrophe that we're getting.

I've sadly never played any KOTOR but the characters look intresting (especally Hk-47 who seems funny & like Bender) I'll be picking this guy up.

Looks pretty good, but it'll be interesting to see how articulated he is from the waist down. I'm guessing there will be little to no articulation, but whatever.

I would have to agree with you guys. I'm not an EU hater... I just don't go too far outside of the movies. I'll be passing on him, but it means an extra one sitting on the pegs for you guys.

I don't know much about the character myself.  I know he is from the KOTOR video game...well I think so at least?  I thought he would be more articulated though.  I could be wrong but that dress makes it look like he may not be?  Eh, it's a proto so I should shut up I suppose.  Just saying.

I'm probably the king bitcher about articulation so I'm with you on that, but given the skirt on him, articulation from the waist down is pretty much waisted...  :(  I wouldn't (and I'm not by far) count on anything poseable below the waist...  The arms though bode well for this guy being about as super poseable as he can be.

Softgoods that ornate wouldn't be easy for that skirt piece and cape...  That looks pretty complex to me.

Sharp looking figure. I'd complain about the skirt, which I'm sure will interfear with posability, but otherwise, very cool (for an EU character.)

Just wanted to expand that I think it's great that Hasbro is branching out and doing some more EU for those that love it. I mean all the concept figures aren't techinically in the movie, but I love those... and I'm grateful to the Big H for that movie.

While I understand the purist in most Star Wars collecting, you'd gotta think that this Darth Raven is going to outsell the likes of your Gargas, Naboo "Soldiers", & Poggles all of which are canon, i.e. in the movies.  At my local Greatland Poggle is 3 deep on everypeg and all the other GH's are pegwarming as well.  So I have to think what kid or adult for that matter would pick up a Naboo "soldier" over a bad ass Sith.  I'm no means an EU freak I've never played the game the only thing I know about Raven is what I read on Wookpedia.  You also have to think a lot of the background characters like Cantina & Jabba's Palace are one step away form being EU anyway.  Half their backstories suck and the other half you only almost see waist up.  Most kids probably don't even remember them from the movie either.  Sorry for the rant :-\

The likeness seems pretty dead-on.  I definitely like the sculpt.  But obviously the molded plastic robes are going to limit the poseability of this figure.  Still it looks like Hasbro is trying to make up for that by putting in ball jointed elbows and shoulders.

Now that this figure is on the way, it's really going to need some kind of a KOTOR companion piece.  Perhaps Darth Malak or Bastila?

yes, it REALLY does, that may be the ONLY negative i have found so far on this fig. No KOTOR companions. pretty dum, especially cuz hasblo probably isnt making any other KOTORs anytime soon.

Hopefully, with Hasbro realizing how popular Revan & KOTOR is, they'll make more. At the BARE MINIMUM we need Bastila, Carth, & some Sith Troopers/Officers.

I could go for a full wave of KOTOR figures, though I know that's not a good idea market wise.  It's smarter to sprinkle in the EU in the line here and there.  I would absolutely love it if in 2008, if in each wave there was a KOTOR character.

 ;)

I'm pretty sure that we can write off funeral Padme.  I think Hasbro has said as much, but I cannot see them making a figure of a dead woman from her funeral procession.

So that leaves what, 14?  Personally, I don't know that we're going to see any of the NJO characters unless there is some kind of comic adaptation of those books.  And I don't see Dark Horse really scrambling to tackle those stories.  They seem pretty well entrenched with their current comic titles.  And then when you factor in that Hasbro has stated that while they want to make EU characters, they're trying to stay with characters with a strong visual reference, ie being featured in a video game or comic book.  With that in mind, I think the NJO characters aren't going to be in play for some time.

The sculpt got a nice paintjob it seems...  Slick looking figure for sure.  I just hope Malak (if he happens) is equally cool.  He's a much more impressive looking character design I think, than Revan, so I'm stoked to see what coudl come of a figure of him.

Again though I really hope the door's open on heroes from KOTOR...  Mission included in that list, but I dig some of the others more than her (if I were making a list).

I've been waiting almost 4 years for Hasbro to wake up and make figures from the Greatest Game of All Time and soon I will have the first of hopefully many in my hands.
