Title: New Deformed Figures from Japan

It looks like the Deformed figure craze will continue with a new series to be released in Japan in May.  It looks like I have yet another series to collect, I love this deformed stuff.  ;)

Any difference between these and the Palm Talkers?

I will say yes, different sculpting I guess looking at the prototype pic Jesse supplied & the pics of the Palm Talkers archived on RS tho not sure what size (scale) the new ones are. I'm sure in time we will know more.

It would be damn cool if they are the same scale as the Palm Talkers, they'd all display nicely together.

I agree Jesse, I still have my POTJ Boba Fett. 12 pieces per box & $45. so that would be $3.75 each. I have a funny feeling that these are tiny, SD = Super Deformed?

I think you're right about them being quite small.  I found a listing at BBTS.com (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TOM10022&mode=retail) that says they are blind boxed, so I don't think they'd be very large.

Robby.jp has a preorder up for these little guys. Wholesale 3744 yen or $31.15 US or $36.82 CDN.

Winner is RoBBy again.

That's a pretty sweet price since that's the cost for a box of 12.  I imagine there will be some sort of regular box breakdown like with Kubricks and Bust-Ups, so I gotta find out what that will be.

These look pretty neat and being blind boxed is cool which means that there will probably be a chase...

The last 2 waves talked. Each had @ 3-4 lines to say. Do these talk? Maybe they are less money because they are just figures and don't talk?

I'd say you're exactly right - they're too inexpensive to be as large as the previous waves and likely don't talk either.

Judging by those pictures (which is difficult) I would guess these are no bigger than 3-4" tall. About the size of the burger king toys, maybe even a bit less. They are pretty cool, and cheap, but I just don't know that I need them.
Maybe if my Kubrick dealer is ordering some, I will get in on it.   ;)

I was looking at the listing for these from Robby.jp (item code 10082542 if you happen to be a member) and noticed they list Hasbro as the manufacturer.  It may just be an a mistake - it seems strange that Hasbro would make a product for release only in Japan.

These look pretty neat and being blind boxed is cool which means that there will probably be a chase...

Methinks you're right.  The listing at Robby describes them as follows: "5 kinds items contains 12 pcs randomly".  A box contains 12 pcs, and a carton contains 2 boxes (24 pieces).  Perhaps one of the figures in the pic will be a chase...

Some potentially bad news for those interested in this line.  My order was cancelled by the Robby.jp (a Japanese wholesaler) -- if they can't get them, I don't think it bodes well for the future of these figures.

Strange, HLJ still has them listed & for a Dec release.

Title: Re: New Deformed Figures from Japan

I think Robby is losing interest in its North American customers since Ryo left.  I got boned almost completely by them on a large order of TAC figures.  They were going to be the same price shipped here as I could get locally, plus they were supposed to arrive about a month or two prior (Japanese retailers have exact street dates for figure release).  So far I got one figure and they've cancelled a couple, but I want them to cancel the rest since they've long since been released in Canada.

I think they'll be fine still for Kubricks but since Ryo left I've not been impressed with the service. :-\

The latest batch of the deformed figures are now listed on TOMY's Japan Star Wars Site (http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/starwars/) with a February 2008 date.

Also, it seems as though there are definitely two chase pieces:

K-3PO and R2-Q5

At the risk of continuing to derail this thread.... so what exactly are those little figures?  They look sort of like a combination of the larger superdeformed figures and Galatic Hero figures.  I kind of like them.

EDIT:  Now that this thread was properly moved my post doesnt' make as much sense.

For those of you that actually got some of these.  Where did you order them?  I'd be interested in getting a Yoda for sure.

My friend in Japan sent me the Stormie.
I also ordered a box of 12 from BBTS.
The Stormie was about $5 plus shipping from Japan.
The box of 12 from BBTS was rounded out to $74 shipped USPS, so when you think of how much shipping might be from Japan, this price didn't seem so bad...unless anyone out there knows of a better deal I missed.
I saw HLJ mentioned when I checked this thread out for the first time today but didn't hit the link.

So I take it these don't talk or light up at all like the last set of super deformed figures that were available from Hasbro (mainly at K-mart)? Do they have little speaker holes in the back...like the mold might originally have been meant for a speaker?
Title: Re: New Deformed Figures from Japan

These are much smaller than the palm talkers, about half the size.  So no modifications of the sort.

I got mine for about $5 less from Robby.jp.

Didn't know about the R2-Q5 chase piece.  Daggnabbit, now I have to go looking for that.

I can fire off a set to someone for about $40 shipped.  No chase.

I got mine for about $5 less from Robby.jp.

I ordered a box from Robby.jp too, but they've pretty much stopped sending me anything I order.  I guess I can understand that since I'm small peanuts compared to real store orders.  It's probably just as well since I don't really need another line to collect.

But if anyone has an extra Vader I'd be interested. :)

Amazingly they haven't turfed me out just yet.  But I do occasionally buy other things from them and they might feel guilty because they royally screwed up a couple of my orders.

Jesse, I just don't want to break up my set, otherwise I'd send you the Vader but that'll leave me with five lonely deformed figures with no real homes.  I'm sure I could move Fett and the stormtrooper, but after that it gets iffy.

My buddy is looking into the deformed shadow trooper for me.  He's telling me it'll run about $10 after all is said and done with the magazine.  Not sure if he's pocketing a couple of bucks or not, but it doesn't bug me that much.  He's saved me so much on Kubricks it's easily worth it.

Case Break down for my box of 12:

Stormie x2
Vader x2
Fett x2
R2-D2 x2
C3-PO x2
Yoda x 1
R2-Q5 x1

I promised the Yoda to my neice's husband to be, so I'm after that one for myself now and the K-3po if I can find it!

Title: Re: New Deformed Figures from Japan
Post by: Morgbug on May 23, 2008, 05:04 PM
You know what?  I checked and it looks like they pop out the Yoda in each box to put in the chase figure.  So I don't have an extra Yoda or a set of six at all.  What I have is the following:

Vader
Fett
Stormtrooper
R2-D2
C-3PO

One of each of those.  $5 for each.  Shipping extra or we could trade maybe instead. I'd prefer to offload them all to one happy home.

So Jesse, since Doc mentioned it first, if he can help you with a Vader, go that way.  If my not having a set for him puts a damper on it, I have a spare, lonely Vader and you have first dibs.

Well they sent me a box of 12 when I ordered and the box looked just like that one they link to.  It was a full set of six, then K-3PO in the second Yoda box and one of each of the rest (so second full set minus the Yoda).  Set of 6 + 1 chase + 5 'extras'.
