Title: Shamrock Shake Lovers Unite!
Post by: Reid on February 27, 2007, 06:52 PM
It's that time of year again, time for the Shamrock Shake to rear its delicious green head! Fortunately, a close Mickey Dee's had them last year, and I can only hope they'll carry it this year. So who else is a fan off all things Uncle O' Grimacy?

Grimus was probably determined to be too fat.

I've already had one Shamrock Shake.  It's my favorite thing about March.

I'll put a vote in for best shake ever...I make a point of getting one while watching at least one NCAA tourney game.  BUT...the Shamrock was soooo much better at the time the McRib was also around.  There was something about that molded pork BBQ taste and the wholesome goodness of the Shamrock washing it down.  Yum

I've never experienced the pleasures of a Shamrock Shake in my entire life.

Also, (and I don't know if I've ever mentioned this, but) I haven't eaten a McDonald's "hamburger" since April 2001 at a McDonald's inside a Wal-Mart store in Renton, Washington (final resting place of a certain Mr. Jimi Hendrix--the town, not the McDonald's inside the Wal-Mart).  And even that was under duress.

Perhaps I should rectify both sometime soon?

I think I've had a grand total of one McDonald's hamburger in my entire life.

I guess I've always been a McNugget man myself.

I've never had the shake either - didn't know it existed until I saw this thread... I generally only get McDonalds 2 or 3 times a year, and only when I'm traveling.

I might go find myself one of these this weekend.

I have probably eaten more McDonalds in my life than I probably should have, but I too have yet to try a Shamrock shake.  I always get the chocolate shake.  Maybe I'll have to give it a try this March.

Oh man, the Shamrock Shake. I haven't had one in at least 2 years. Last time, I bought the largest one they had (32 or 48 oz) and drank it in about 5 minutes. Words can't even describe the sickness I felt after that. Though i'm oddly craving one now that I think of it.  :P

Never had a Shamrock shake until last year. Made it a point to go out and get one since I never eat at Micky D's. It was... okay.

I have the fondest memories of consuming Shamrock Shakes when I was a wee lad in the '70s. Those were definitely the best.

I remember trying to get one several years ago, only to receive a rather blank (blanker, I guess) expression from the zitty, porcine-faced McD's cashier. Then, only like two years ago, my wife, after hearing my endless bleatings of how this delicious green concoction wasn't available any longer, told me there was a McD's up the road that had them advertised. Needless to say, I jumped in the truck and picked up the largest size they had.

It was totally not how I remembered it.  :-X

However, I may have to try to get a hold of another one this year just to make sure it wasn't just an off-day for the Shamrock Shake machine.

Well after reading all of this, I decided that I'd compromise my diet, as well as ignore my doc's orders to cut out the sugar, and try one.

My corner McD's didn't have them.  But since I'd already decided to cheat, I came back to the office and ate a piece of the homemade fudge that someone brought in.

I FOUND A SHAMROCK SHAKE!

Sure it's two days late but what the hey? Found it at my local Mickey Dee's that I've been checking every day for the past 4,000,000 weeks, but they just got 'em in today.

Excuse while I continue to enjoy Uncle O' Grimacy's minty shake.

I have an aquaintance who owns a few McD's here locally.  Asked him to hook me up to the green...he said he doesn't carry them because he has to throw away more than he sells every year.

Bummer.

I think it might be worth dropping by to try the shake.  As for rectifying the situation regarding the hamburger, why bother?  I eat there far, far too much (small towns along the highway always have one and I have lots of windshield time) but it's a matter of convenience and I seldom opt for the burgers these days anyway.  I may not be a fan of SuperSize Me or Fast Food Nation, but it doesn't mean I'd actually suggest the food is good.

Anyone ever have Arctic Orange shakes at their McD's?  I much preferred those over the Shamrock shakes anyday, but they were never around as dependably.  I always wondered if it was a major initiative or just some weird Manitoba thing.  I am a huge fan of fake orange flavoring though, in chocolate most notably.

Arctic orange. Ok, I too have not eaten anything at McDonalds in at least 7 years so i am out of the loop. My girlfriend wanted something from burger king last week so i had some onion rings and that was the first time in at least 2 years there.

Oh, I've eaten other McDonald's food product over the years (the fancy new Chicken McNuggets, whatever they're called, the fancy new chicken snack wrap thing, whatever it's called, and assorted breffast sammiches), so it's not like I'm boycotting them or anything--just their "hamburgers."

(But that doesn't preclude me from doing other things with them. . .)

I've never heard of the orange shakes.  Sounds like it'd be good, though.  Kinda like a push-up pop.

I don't eat at McDonald's often, but I did stop by a few times to get all the Shamrock Shakes I could.   ;D  I had lunch at Chili's in the middle of a shopping excursion today, but instead of grabbing a dessert there I stopped at the McD drive-thru and got another SS.  I also had a hamburger Happy Meal on Saturday with a SS as well.  Good times!

I really cannot fathom a McD's not having the SS.  Every one I ever been to in my entire life during the month of March has had them.  Weirdness...

LOL ... The previous time this happened, I think I got the last laugh. I ate half a sandwich, forgot about the other half sitting out for several hours while I studied, and before I went to bed I put it back in the fridge. I wasn't even sure if I would still eat it, but I figured I'd worry about it in the morning. Of course it disappeared--but I'm hoping the bandit got food poisoning.

Dilbert sucks.

I showed a couple episodes of The Office to my dad a few weeks ago (he had never seen the show before), and afterward, he said "that's kind of like a TV version of Dilbert, isn't it?"

That was just, like, such an insult.

This is the only time of year I eat McDonalds and it's because of two things:  The Shamrock Shake and the Filet o Fish for Fridays during Lent.  BTW, Scott, I have run into a few McDonalds around town that never carry the shake.

dude we clean are machines often. not sure about others stores though...however its not the machine that smells its the mix itself that smells. if any of it spills on you then you reek of it for the next 30 min-to an hour.

I always feel left out at this time of year.  I really don't like mint...  So I'm not into them. :(  Yet I want one.  It's like Eggnog...  It looks more appealing to me than it ultimately is, and sometimes I cave and have it, and then remember why I didn't have it before and feel left out.

It's a really vicious cycle.

another year and i don't think any of the local mcd's offer them again.  I've never tried one.

Shamrock shakes finally found their way to East Tennessee...tried my first one a few weeks ago while in Knoxville, and suddenly I'm seeing them here at home as well.

It tasted like green.

Only one I've had though, since I'm off sweets for lent.

Treated the family to a round of SS's this weekend.  They are my kids' new favorite treat.  They can't wait to go back there and get another one!

True story...I haven't eaten a McDonald's "hamburger" since April 2001 at a McDonald's inside a Wal-Mart store in Renton, Washington (final resting place of a certain Mr. Jimi Hendrix--the town, not the McDonald's inside the Wal-Mart).  And even that was under duress.
Pretty close to Renton right now...may go have a burger at MickeyDs for ole times sakes

Damn, I'm going to have to make a run tonight and check it out.  One of the only times during the year that I go to McD at all.

Back tonight (I like frappes) and the order window had a sign that said, "Shake machine is down.  No shake products available".

I expected a rampaging mob.

They seem to show up once the McRib disappears....coincidence?!

I've heard that's kinda their thing...  run short-run things here and there, can them, something else replaces it...  I dunno.  I loved Oreo frappes and then they took them away.  I felt like they stole a bit of my soul that day.

My local McD's don't serve them for whatever reason. My post from a few years ago, when I was out of town, was the first and only time I've ever had one.

Honestly I didn't even know these were a thing until this thread started.

Yeah, they were popular when we were kids in places with lots of people with Irish ancestry - places where Saint Patrick's Day was big.

I still remember the commercial:

Grabbed one dahntahn.  Kinda cold to be walking around drinking a shake, but it was tasty.

Had to drive to a few different places before I was able to find one, but found one last night.  Tasty.  Definitely going to have to make a run with the boys tomorrow after their basketball games as a treat.

I'm not a big mint fan so I hate them but I always alert my coworkers.  One in particular loves them.

Got one today...hold the whipped cream and the cherry #purist

I always hold the cherry.  That flavor clashes horribly with the mint.  Disgusting.

Grabbed my first of the season!  Shake machine wasn't broke or nothing.  Of course I did go at 3PM in the hopes I'd get one before the dinner rush killed it.

Awesome, glad to hear they are out somewhere but unfortunately not by me yet.  I had to resort to a mint shake at Culvers, just not the same.  My two sons are also waiting in eager anticipation.

I actually drove to the drive-thru on Wednesday and asked if they were available.  They told me they would go on sale Thursday at that location.  They hadn't posted any kind of signage as of yesterday.  So you might be able to call and check when your location to see when they'll be available.

In my post of Facebook, another guy who lives nearby said he was told "Late February" at a different McD's.  That's just preposterous!

I did that exact thing after I posted my response last night.  Went to two in the area and was told it would be a couple more weeks.  Grrr!  Guess I'm going to have to make up for lost time once they do come out!
