Title: 30AC Wave 5 - Expanded Universe
Post by: David on April 11, 2007, 10:01 PM
So it seems like Wave 5, which is bound to be revealed soon, will consist entirely of EU figures.

What's rumored:
Darth Malak
Anakin w/Tattoos
Yoda w/Kybuck
Roron Corobb
Pre-Cyborg Grievous
and Fans Choice winner darth Revan

Sounds great! The Mcfigure scheduled for this wave is the girl-Luke.

I for one cannot wait for Pre-Cyborg Grievous and Roron Corobb. Kybuck is bound to be disappointing. Anakin is destined to pegwarm. Malak and Revan will disappear in a blink of an eye.

I wish Voolvif Monn and Nelvaanian Warrior were also in this wave, but oh well. Maybe next year. This wave sounds great regardless. Lets hope more info comes to us soon...

I am all for EU, but I can honestly say this will be a wave I skip.  Might get Girl Luke if that is what McQ figure is, but until that is solidified, I'd say, much like Wave 1, this is a save money and time looking wave.

The only characters I've even heard of in this wave are Yoda, Anakin and Grievous (who I thought was always a droid, that is why he was their general....)

and Grievous (who I thought was always a droid, that is why he was their general....)

After he was injured in a shuttle crash orchestrated by Count Dooku, the Intergalactic Banking Clan paid for a lifesaving operation that replaced much of the Kaleesh warlord with cyborg parts of Geonosian design. Then he was made the general of the CIS droid army because the operation made him stronger and faster than ever.

And I cant wait to get this figure!!!

I said scheduled, not confirmed. I got all of this off of that otheR Site's rumor lists, which are usually quite accurate.

These are basically synonymous terms.

Even www.thesaurus.com (http://www.thesaurus.com) agrees.

There was one list that leaked out from Hasbro's French subsidiary.  Hasbro reps at Toy Fair pretty much acknowledged that this particular list was dead-on.

If this list does prove to be true, I'd be interested in Anakin with Tatoos and the McQuarrie female Luke, maybe the Yoda with Kybuck.  The rest do nothing for me, especially Revan and Malak (Vader would eat those pansies for breakfast :P).

Malak and Revan together is nice...  I was a little bummed at the thought of one without the other.  In general, I'm hoping for more KOTOR figures since I find only a couple figures from a "series" of EU is a little sparse and weird.  Doesn't look right in the old set-up to me.

I'm hoping for some of the heroes now though...  Sith are cool but the other characters were too.

Definitely want Anakin, Roron, and Yoda, even though the kybuck will be underscaled if it's to fit on a basic card.

Might get pre-cyborg Grievous and probably girl-Luke.

I have no attachment to Revan and Malak, so my decision will be based solely on them looking cool or not.

But synonymous words don't necessarily mean the same exact thing.  Scheduled can mean confirmed, but it doesn't have to. The difference between the right word and the wrong word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.

As far as the wave is conserned, this would be a perfect wave if as is, as I wouldn't necessarily purchase an opener set. However, Hasbro has nailed down the "one army bulder" per wave pretty well, so I'd guess that the list could be figure short.

Can Roron, Anakin and Yoda really be considered EU? They were in the Clone Wars cartoon which for the post part i consider part of the official story line. I am not saying that I am not happy geting these, just an observation.
Title: Re: 30AC Wave 5 - Expanded Universe
Post by: ddschneider1972 on April 12, 2007, 12:29 PM
I'll be getting a pre-cyborg grevous because i'm sure it will be based on one of the conceptual designs and really be a concept figure with a different name like the SOTE Imperial Sentinal, Obi & Qui gon in Jedi Training gear, some of the clones (colored 3 pack clones) and the 2 Sith training Mauls (tan vest and red striped).

I'm betting it's not girl luke but the scuba luke with a standard coin. As I (and others) said in the Con Excl. thread Hasbro:
Hasbro never makes exclusives new sculpts because (as THEY even say) the cost of tooling, they are always rehashed/kitbashed/repaints. so the chance of them doing THREE new sculpts is slim to none.

Plus stupid people would complain if a toy Luke was now a girl...

Thanks for the pic Nate.  I had no idea what he looked like even though he looks pretty much like a cyborg Grievous minus the clothing of course.
Title: Re: 30AC Wave 5 - Expanded Universe
Post by: Nathan on April 12, 2007, 02:03 PM
No problemo. Incidentally, the "face" in these pics is still a mask--his cyborg mask was modeled after it. His species, the Kaleesh, wear masks and I don't think we've yet seen what their real faces look like--although they're apparently some sort of reptilians. They also have a tusk protruding from each side of the jaw, which may be what the "vanes" on Grievous' helmet are supposed to represent.

Jeez. I really should go do something productive....

The only figures I'm buying for sure from this wave are Anakin, Roron, Yoda, and the Concept figure. I'll wait and see pics of everything else before making my final decisions.

I think this sounds like a great wave, though I wouldn't be surprised to see some pegwarmers out of it.

Darth Malak - Count me in for at least two, one for a custom

Anakin w/Tattoos - I like this for the mere fact it's so different - a human w/out a shirt.  I could use a few for customs probably.  Cool.

Yoda w/Kybuck - Finally, a Yoda with what could be a great accessory.  If the Kybuck is cool, I might get a few of these.

Pre-Cyborg Grievous - Sounds fantastic, I've seen some great customs on ebay.  I'll most likely get a few and make a fan fic Separatist army with them.  Awsome, now give us a to scale ROTS Grievous!

Darth Revan - Pics of it look nice, but I'll probably only get 2-3 of them.

Roron Corobb - I did a custom of him that I do like, but this could be the winner of the group for me.  If it's well done I could get 5-6 of them.  Here's the custom I made -

While I do like my custom it's a far cry from looking accurate.

What this wave really needs is an army builder like the Lancer Droid!

Darth Malak- I'll pick one up.
Anakin w/ Tatoos- I'll pick one up. This isn't anything speacial
Yoda w/ Kybuck- The Kybuck is an immediate sell. I hope Yoda has the hood up.
Pre-Cyborg Grievous- Either this or Rorron will be the gem of this wave
Darth Revan- Pretty nice, could of used a cloth skirt though  :-\
Roron Corob- Hopefully he'll be SA & not a re-hash like his friend Foul.

I have limits on my EU, so I'll only be getting the CW figs from this group.  I never play the games, and Grievous isn't interesting enough to me to be going this far with him.  Watch him be cool and I buy him anyway.   ::)

Post by: DoctorPadawan on April 13, 2007, 09:09 AM
The KOTOR figures don't interest me at all, so this will probably wind up being the first wave where I try to trade for just the coins.

The Clone Wars figures are a definite, though.  I just hope they pack in a Yoda with the Kybuck that was done from scratch so he can interact with the beast, and not just repack the one that came with the Can-Cell and try to force it to interact.  As much as I am interested in the figure, Anakin stands to be the potential pegwarmer of the bunch, especially when there will be a movie-based Anakin on the pegs at around the same time in the Legends line.

Tough one this.

None of the figures interest me *that* much, with the exception of Raven and maybe Grevious, but I *really* want to complete the coin album.

Not sure what to do to be honest................

I dig Hermi Odle and Rorronn Corrobb.  The new Salacious looks sweet!!  I'll get Yoda on the kybuck too.

All the other ones, Darth Revan and anything else that's from KOTOR or wherever it came from (never played it) I'll likely pass.

This is by far the coolest wave of the year without a doubt. I think Roron Corobb looks the best, he is awesome. Hermi Odle will be super, he looks wonderful!!! Boobs Luke should be cool, too! Ok, wow. Everything from the OT and the Clone Wars cartoon looks friggin fantastic. I was a bit skeptical about Grievous and the KOTOR figures but they look great. Not sure if I'll skip them or not. Hopefully we'll see better pics at C4.

I'm most interested in seeing pics of Yoda. Hard to tell from this picture if he's all new or a rehash.

Ok Stormtrooper, Darth, Jabba's guy, 3P0  and a Hammerhead in Pajamas? on the Top row,

second row is Yoda, Anakin I guess, Darth something, Darth Bozo, a mouse guy and Luke as a girl...

hopefully this will be the wave the Stormtrooper is more than 1 to a case, cuz the rest of those will be definate skips for me.  And I like EU, so it is not an Anti-EU thing.

Very cool wave all the way around.

Hermi Odle...tough to tell.  He definitely looks pretty bulky, but it's tough to figure just how he measures up with other figures in the wave.  The coloring seems a little weird too, but I think it's best to see it in person before being really critical.

Threepio reminds me of the SAGA Gold Ultra version that came with the escape pod.  Mainly because of the finish.  But I definitely see some telltale indications that this is a ROTJ Threepio.  On this one you can see that the wires in the midsection are pretty straight up and down.  That only really happened with the ROTJ Threepio costume.  It looks like the knees might be articulated, too.  Salacious is an improvement too.  The previous versions have all been the same, totally preposed.  This one actually appears to have some articulation.

Roron Corobb looks interesting.  They've managed to blend some of that cartoon elements with what we know of the Ithorians from the movies.  It also looks like Hasbro is reusing that McQuarrie Stormtrooper lightsaber again.  Articulation looks decent and well camoflaged.

Yoda on the Kybuck is probably my favorite piece from this wave.  The Kybuck looks interesting, especially since it had never been seen in the live-action SW universe.  And Yoda looks appropriately scaled with some cool Clone Wars gear.  The SG brown cloak looks really cool.

Anakin seems alright.  But there seems to be something of a paint error here.  Shouldn't his pants be brown?  What I'm also wondering is if he's going to have an alternate burnt up robotic hand.  Beyond that, I see the articulation and it looks pretty well hidden.  The final product should be interesting.

Revan's been talked about ad nauseum.  But Malak?  Looks cool, although the coloration around the eyes seems a bit strange.  I think seeing it in person will tell a great deal more.

Grievous looks interesting, but I had always seen him with the mask on in this form.  I want to see a better photo.

Starkiller Hero?  It's not quite what I had pictured from the original McQuarrie image, but it seems interesting at the very least.

The real thing I like in this wave?  That we're getting some genuine variety.  The themed waves are cool, but sometimes they lock Hasbro into some character choices that aren't necessarily the best figures/characters we could get.

I have an action figure erection...  B:::::::::ID

-Hermi Odle...  Friggin' sweet and about time.  Can't tell scale but he's actually not huge/towering as much as he is broad/round.  I think the way the image from EE is photoshopped though makes it much more difficult to tell scale.  I'm happy so far, look sweet to me...  Wishing he had a basket of apples, but I vow I'll get that for him myself (thinkin' dollhouse store or something on that).

-McLuke...  Very cool, very fem...  I've been loving the McFigures all year and they really are just outstanding sculpts and articulation to boot for the most part.  Very happy with shim.

-Yoda w/Kybuck...  LOVE IT!  Fantastic realiistic style sculpting, the Kybuck looks to have some articulation, love the hood/cloak...  Perfect looking.

-Ani w/Tats...  Again, loving it.  Hasbro's kicking ass with CW stuff so much that I'm just simply that much more pumped to see the NEW CW toon and what Hasbro does to accompany it.

-Roron...  Lookin' very nicely articulated, love the scowel too because he didn't look anything but pissed off in the toon.  Great sculpting though, and it's nice to have an Ithorian that isn't Momaw now.  May be my favorite of the wave with him.

-Malak/Revan...  I can see Revan customs coming now.  Not to spoil the game for anyone but YOU are Revan in the game, you just don't remember being him till late in the game.  I sorta did my character's look up so he resembled me as best I could, so self-customs using the Revan figure are quite likely...

Malak is just outstanding though.  Two great characters from a great storyline.  Now I'm hoping for just more from the game at some point.  Nice articulation, details, paintjob...  Too much good stuff to take in at once.

-Prevous (pre-Grievous?)...  Not something high on my list, yet I still gladly will take something this "odd" and unique.  Easy to slip into a Cantina, but also nice to stand with your favorite Grievous figure on the display shelf...  Now all we need is a good to-scale movie Grievous to accompany him.

-3P0 w/ear-hump Salacious...  Very nice again, and finally looks like a Crumb that might not melt over time.  Will his eye go into his socket?  Will he have articulation like the throne 3PO or the ROTS 3PO (hard to tell from the photo but I'm almost leaning towards ROTS 3PO).  Not a figure I had a huge demand for, but as 3PO's go it's one of the only routes left to take the character so I'm happy with it.

Figure overload for sure...  Is C4 ruined now thanks to EE?  :)  Who gives a ****?

So eloquently put Jesse, ha ha.

I too have an action figure errection.

This is an excellent wave. I'll buy each one. Jesse, I thought about the possibility for customs as well with the Revan, but more from Commando type standpoint (Mandolorian) rather than game character.

I agree with pretty much everythign you said, with exception to Anakin maybe. I'm not so excited for that figure. I'll paint the pants the right color, then maybe I'll appreciate it more.

Still, I'd say Hasbro scores a home run with this wave. There's certainly something for everyone here. OT, EU, CW, Prequel. Good Job Hasbro!

Strangely enough, I think I'll probably buy several Kybucks. Might be neat to see several in a diorama. Of what I'm not sure yet. Maybe racing similar to horse racing? I wouldn't just have them grazing in a pasture as that's a bit too boring for a diorama. I just want something different. (So if you see someone else do a Kybuck racing diorama, just remember where you hard it first, ha ha.)

This wave looks like the cat's pajamas.

I'm generally not into EU, but if they make it to this quality level and avoid the fluorescent paints, I'm a-okay with it.

I have to disagree. Although theyre pretty cool, my vote goes to Roron Corobb.

Ya know after looking closer, I think I spoke too soon when I said they are 'all great' and 'its the best wave ever', because Hermi Odle and Darth Malak concern me after looking closer, they really do. I will be really looking forward to seeing these a lot closer from JD's CIV coverage.

Of all of them I am still the most excited to get Hermi Odle.  Just because I have wanted a figure of it for quite awhile.  Especially after they made Ephant Mon.  That will almost complete the Jabba diorama for me really.  I will be happy whatever else they release in the Jabba's palace but that's a big one in my book.

Hermi!  Hermi!   ;D  Love him.  And Roron, too.  This wave has a lot of figs I've been waiting for - and a lot I never cared about.  KOTOR guys and Tatoo Anakin, I'm talking about you.  Getting everyone but the game dudes.  The McLeia/Luke is fantastic, but this really should have been the C4 exclusive, not the breath mask Luke we all want to accompany our McVader's.

Hermi is awesome and so is Yoda  :).  Getting all but the game guys. I might order this wave ?

McLuke/Leia is awesome but I wanted the mask Luke to come on the card and could live with McLuke/Leia on the C4 Exclusive.

The McQuarrie figs are becoming an pain in the neck, I probably have to spent about 50 dollars just to get 1 x Mc3PO & McR2. and 1 X Mask Luke UGH  >:(

Wow, this was a nice surprise to see this image pop up over the weekend.  Hopefully we'll get a look at Wave 6 (or beyond) at C4 still this week.  Anyways, I think this wave overall looks great.  Hermi and 3PO/Salicious Crumb are of course welcome.  I'm really looking forward to those.  The Clone Wars figures might be my favorite of the wave though.  The Kybuck with Yoda is so cool, and something I always enjoyed from the toon.  I was looking forward to a Roron Corobb figure, and its nice to see it isn't just a Momaw Nadon rehash, and looks to be a great figure.  Even the Anakin with tats looks pretty nice, and like Jesse mentioned, seeing these figures makes me look forward to the new Clone Wars series even more.

I didn't really have any expectations for the pre-Grievous figure, but I have to say, it looks pretty nice.  I don't care much about the video game figures, but those two look pretty nice too, and I'll probably pick them up.  Another McQuarrie figure is always welcome too - overall the wave just looks nice.

I wonder if Hermi will be as hard to find as Ephant Mon was.  To date, Ephant is still one of the only figures I have never found in a store.  I got mine off of E-bay.  I always suspected that they made him in lesser numbers because so much more plastic was involved for the same price as other figures.  I'm assuming the same will be true of Hermi.   ???

You're spot on. But they also mentioned something about Ephont catching them off guard, so it was produced in lower numbers by default. I don't see the same thing happening with Hermie since Hasbro has greatly improved the way they distribute toys since the days of Ephon Mon.

This wave is just incredible. I love that Salacious Crumb has some articulation. Yoda with the Kybuck is a suprising hit, probably one of the best figures in the wave. They are all great. Pre-Grievous was not what i was expecting, but happy they included the mask. Great wave, best of the year so far.

Just looking at the pics again, and although you can't tell anything of size/scale from these, I would think that the Yoda w/Kybuck combo (as well as Hermi) are really going to be packed in those bubbles.  Its hard to see how Hasbro could sell us a little Yoda by himself for the same price after this (but they will).

Looking at the first five waves that we have seen now, as well as the vintage assortment and the battle packs/etc., this is really shaping up to be a great year for Star Wars collecting, IMO.  Sure, the McQuarrie figures have been a bit of a pain for many, and there's always the price/distribution issues, but looking at the quality of figures and the fact that we're getting more "new/much requested" characters, it just seems like a pretty good collection so far.

Looking at McLuke/Leia she might make a pretty good "rebel" female if one were able to find enough to make a squad or so, just change up the heads and ditch the saber.  Can't wait for this, it's been the ultimate year for Star Wars figs in my opinion, now if we can only get the Endoboo wave out of the stores we might actually see some of this stuff.  ::)

Maybe in a parralel universe where things that weird usually mean something cool, we would get a combo pack of generic random human heads of both genders with magnets, because in the game KOTOR Revan is you.  8)

But, that, of course, would only happen in the alternate parralel universe.  :P

I think the metal thing on Malak's face might be removeable, so you can see him without his lower jaw like in the game's cutscene. The crappy thing though, is that it looks like Malak is too short. He was kind of a tall, imposing, Vader-ish character in the game.

The thing with KOTOR, is that it was meant to give you a total SW experience without ******* with the continuity. That's why you have all the elements of SW without actually having the same characters you're used to. That's also why it worked so well.

Malak's jawpiece is removable.  Later on at C4 Hasbro took that off and had Malak holding it.  It looks pretty creepy for him to be holding the collar and to see most of his jaw missing, but it does serve to make him seem that much more menacing.

Well, thanks to a push from a fellow collector (thanks BrentS), I just pre-ordered this Wave from NFC.  This is my first case purchase and I'm having a bit of sticker shock, but I know that this is for the best as I want everything from this wave.  Considering that this Wave also comes packed with the Wave 4 Concept Vader and a Stormtrooper, it made pre-ordering it a no brainer.  And thankfully this won't ship until Sept/Oct, so I'll have enough time to save my pennies...

I just did this as well - also my first case order.  I decided that from now on when a case assortment has all new stuff in it, I'm doing it this way.  And I know it looks like a big chunk of change, but it's a hair over $7.00 per figure, even with shipping.  It costs LESS doing it this way than it would buying them in stores.

If this experience goes well for me, I'll definitely be ordering from them for all assortments that have new figures only.

Wow, now this wave is really sweet. I think wave 4 and 5 are the ones I'm really thinking of getting practically all of. All of the figures revealed appeal to my specific interest. It's also nice to see the KOTOR figures. Having played the game, I always wanted figures of some of the characters but never thought they would happen. The sith lords are a good choice, cool designs visually. Now if Hasbro would just make an HK-47 and T3-M4 I'd be one satisfied customer. Oh, and I'm digging that pre-cyborg Grievous probably the most.

I've given up hitting retail for these. Since Hasbro pretty much packs each fig 1 per case anymore anyway I'm just pre-ordering online. I preordered wave 4 and 5 actually because I'm tired of wasting gas to find the mcfigs. The extra cost for the figs outweighs what I'd spend in gas. In some cases higher shipping just balances it out. I figure let the scalpers fight in the aisles or leave more for those who can't order online, I'll just sit at home and get what I need and if I find anything at retail, bonus. As long as Hasbro is packing most waves at 1 ea it just makes sense unless you've got the solid hookup. But I'm not an army builder so this approach really works for me.

Very nice wave, I'm really looking forward to it.  It does appear that the 3PO is vac-metal, which is a nice improvement if the figure ships that way.  Hermi is of course welcome, and I really like the "realistic" Clone Wars figures included in this wave.  I hope that when the new animated series starts, they continue this way.

That's an excellent point about the Yoda and Kybuck, that's definitely nice that we're getting both for the basic figure price this year.  I was curious how they were going to fit all of that on a basic card.  One of the figures I'm looking forward to the most this year, for sure.  The card art is very nice on all of these as well.

Malak's expression honestly reminds me of those multipacks of "Frightened B-Movie Civilians" that Archie MacPhee (and IIRC Entertainment Earth) sell.  Even though I don't know a whole lot about KOTOR, something tells me Darth Malak was supposed to be slightly less amusing in his appearance.   ;D

I like how they put Grievous' actual Kaleesh name on the coin.  I am definitely considering ordering a case of these, because even though I have no interest in Darth Surprise Prostate Examination and Revan, every other figure in the case is seemingly, to steal Hasbro's buzzword, "awesome."

Title: Re: 30AC Wave 5 - Expanded Universe

Malak's really a bit of a sinister prick in the game, and since I'm playing through the game now actually I don't recall him ever having the bug-eyed look there, but whatever...  I'm happy to get him as a figure, since I like the game, but that is odd looking.  The hasbro pub photos usually are not production photos though, so I have hopes the eyes will be better.  Usually these seem to be hand-painted figures that use crisper paints and things, and the production figure looks much different.

Revan's quite nice...  They're both nice really, just those goofy assed eyes on Malak.

So am I the only one that's bothered by the fact that Hermie's green on the cardback and pink as a figure?  I think that the figure itself is great, I'm just curious as why there's such a color difference.

Also, I like the KOTOR figures, but Malak's jaw piece is way too big.  That's unfortunate because I was really looking forward to that figure.

I think Yoda is the only one whose actually color is represented on the card art.  The rest are all off, not just Hermi

Hermi's color maybe off... or maybe that's his normal color when not in the dark, dank slum of Jabba's palace  ??? Anyone else disappointed with the lack of Hermi's drool-maker?  ;)

This is reassuring...

From Yakface:

"Q2: Any chance of the paint operations being reworked for Darth Malak's eyes? While the sculpt of the figure is excellent, his shocked, "deer-in-the-headlight" look is very distracting.

A2: Yes, the paint ops are being reworked (both Lucasfilm and our team here did not like the results from the first shots), and we are trying from piece 1, to solve the issue that you describe. "

Have we already done the Salacious Crumb is humping C-3PO's ear joke yet?

And why are Yoda/Anakin/Roron denoted as being 'expanded universe' figures, as are Malak/Revan?  Shouldn't they be reasonably denoted as Clone Wars based figures?  Yeah, I get it's technically not from movies, but the Clone Wars series was pretty substantial in it's own right, particularly when compared to a couple of comic book or game appearances?

Jayson got that one, I think. Something about green goo, too.

At least we have a to-scale Grievous now... just an EU one.
Title: Re: 30AC Wave 5 - Expanded Universe

I think Hasbro's just cloistering all EU together for a wave I assume, not breaking it up into its respective EU-titles I guess...  Clone Wars was substantial but still just another branch of eu ultimately.

Actually I think that might be pretty accurate.  The big delay we've had in the 30AC line had to do with Hasbro changing vendors on the pack-in coins, and now that they have the new coin manufacturer up and running I think they're back on schedule.

New Force always seems to have this stuff first somehow. I've pretty much stopped ordering any cases from EE and have placed all future orders with New Force. I'm just tired of wasting gas and since most cases are packed 1 per it just makes sense to preorder them if you're getting the entire wave. The way I see it EE will be shipping the wave 4 revision cases by the time NF starts shipping wave 7.  :P

For now anyway.  I hope it keeps up for Rick's sake, lord knows he's been hosed enough in the past.  That he's having tremendous success is a very cool thing.  I didn't order from them because I'm still scarred from the past.  Might be time to put that in the past too.

Interesting to see the Canadian sample.  It has been rumoured that there wouldn't be any further Canadian cards beyond Wave 3.  As an opener, I could care less, but I do hunt Canadian cards for two folks, one in Japan and one in the US.  They'll both be pleased should there be more than just samples produced.  It also bodes well for Canadian carded UGH.

I've got a case of wv5 coming to me next week. Ordered it online  and they already have it in stock. In fact had I the extra funds last Friday, I'd have already had them in my hands yesterday.

These might not be at retail, but I can see where people are getting them in their hands.

Sorry fellas, I won't have extras of this case either. (If I did, of course I'd sell them at cost. I'm not in this for the money, I'm in it for the fun of collecting.)

I got to open the first four figures last night.

Hermie's just awesome. His sheer size makes him cool alone, but the sculpt and the cloth cape make him one of my favorites of the year.

3PO is okay. Sure the eye gag is fun, and the ball jointed torso is a nice bit of articulation, but the standard protocol limbs are disappointing. Crumb is fun to have a nice variation of.

Roron is well done. Well sculpted, fine articulation, there's really nothing wrong with him.

Yoda is the surprise one for me. The Kybuck is kind of cool in and of itself, but Yoda is a well done tiny figure. The best part for me is the lightsaber holster (with hilt) slung across his back.

Anyone know when New Force usually ships?  This is the first case I ever pre-ordered from them and I was expecting it to get to me around the time they started showing up in stores, but really had no idea when it would be.

It depends on when they get their stuff from Hasbro...  :P

Lately they've been a bit ahead of retail and actually, New Force already started shipping Wave 5:

From the NewForceComics.com front page:

SW wave 5
August 30, 2007 | 4:39 PM | newforce1

We have received a very small quantity of wave 5 cases that will all ship out Friday.

I think they got about 20-30% of their order.  If you weren't in that first batch, it will be another 2-3 weeks or so at least.  Rick usually updates the front page of NewForce when they get allocations from Hasbro and then it's about 2 weeks after that they get them in hand for shipping...

If anyone has extra UGH let me know I have 3 for trade.

Damn!!!! Hermi kicks ass.  Just back from Walmart and scored one along with 2 Anakin's 1 Roron.  After reading that people here in SoCal had been finding them I decided just for kicks to see what was to be had didn't think I'd actually find any so late in the day but low and behold.  I don't know how many cases this wal-mart orders but damn there was a lot of Roron's, Anakin's & 3PO's.  They must've gotten wave 4 earlier in the week or at least ordered fewer cases of it, I base that on because there were far more of the wave 5 "pegwarmers"-using that term lightly then there were the leftovers from the wave 4.  And of course no Darth's, Grevious', Yoda's or McQ's in sight.

Opened the rest of wave 5 last night (Ani, Ravin, Mallak, Grevious and Starkiller.)

Despite not being an EU fan, I have to begrudgingly admit that these are all well done figures. The standouts for me in the entire wave are Hermie and Starkiller.

I've seen hide nor hair of Wave 4, so Wave 5's not really appreciated at the moment...

And, as much as I'm an army builder, even I can't afford to help "clear the pegs" of what's hanging around these days.  It's been a rough year because there's a LOT of good figures in general, there's a TON of good army builders (better than any year previous), and there's been **** you gotta chase down left and right on top of it all (McQuarrie, UGH, etc.).

Wave 5 surfacing is really a moment I just groaned...  And I love every figure in the wave too!  That's the sick part.

This is a repost from another thread, just for you Jesse:

Jesse, you could always go in with me on an order for cases. The wave 6 case looks to be pretty good. This case includes:
2X McSnowtroopers
2X Hans/Torture Racks
2X Lando Smugglers
2X McRebels
2X 4-Loms
1X Death Star Trooper
1X Stormtrooper

I've already posted in our local forums as well as here that I'll have extras of Han, Lando and 4-Lom. However if you want a case for yourself, the cases are only $75, plus a little for shipping. If I order two cases shipping is usually around $11 total. So that puts the total case cost at only $80.50. That's still well below retail, which is $7 per fig plus another 50 cents for tax. That comes to $90 for the same 12 at retail. Heck a $10 savings with only a couple of extras that should be fairly easy to trade isn't bad at all.

Let me know and I'll put you in on my order for a case for yourself (or if you just want the extras from my case). No need to panic on the lack of product when you'v got a fellow local collector willing to hook you up.

I know you say you like the thrill of the hunt, yet I see you getting frustrated all the time not finding stuff. Why not take some of the frustration out of the equation? Plus the moeny saved on gas alone should make this worth it as well. Then there's the time that you are saving so you can spend it with your lady and her kid.

Collecting has become a lot better for me, since I've decided to buy cases.

Seriously man, just think about it and let me know.

End repost:
Now while that doesn't help you for Wave 5 (The guy is sold out of that wave already), it can secure you the figs from wv6. Let me know as soon as you can about your decision so I can let him know to hold another case for me or not. I know you like the hunt, but sometimes enough is enough. Let this work for you (buying cases from the net), instead of the other way around. (driving a car around, not finding figs and wasting gas and time and getting frustrated).

Jesse, my reaction was the same as yours: a loud and annoyed groan.  Having waves released this close to one another is just overwhelming, especially after months of little to nothing new showing up.  Granted, a lot of waves showed up on the first nights for TPM/AOTC-Saga/ROTS, but with those lines, it was all new product, all at once, with nothing to hold back the floodgates.  Now it's two waves almost simultaneously (not counting Saga Legends) that have to compete with the backlog of 2006 TSC and 30AC Vaders to find space on the pegs.

Since these are just showing up at Wal-Mart so far, I may as well not even bother as neither WM has stocked anything past Wave 2 of 30AC on what little peg space that isn't already occupied by Jerjerrods and Endor Threepios.   ::)

That's another idea. Since there are several heads out there to use and ones generic enough like the Rebel Honor Guard or Death Star Trooper, it's an easy custom.

Are there any pics of Reven figure without the robes?

I'd like to see the sculpt of that to decide if there are more custom possibilities.

Hands down this is the greatest wave ever! I just got my case last night and it just rocked. It even had McQ Vader in there! So many great figures I do not even know where to start. TAC blew its load on this one. The future waves are cool but are pale in comparison to this wave.

Yoda - Best Ever. Smaller scale too.
Kybuck - Very beast-a-riffic!
Grievous - Enormously awesome!
Starkiller - all around cool female figure!
Anakin - Great likeness and articulation!
Hermie - Huge and goofy but very well done!
Malak - Excellent job and great figure!
Revan - Superb figure but I would have like some soft goods but still an 9 out of 10 figure
C3Po - Boring but paint and eye are cool! Scene builders dream.
Crumb - Makes buying 3Po OK. Love him!
Roran - ******* sweet. I love how they painted pupils on him to look pissed.

I really have no complaints at all. Even the case packing is great! 1 of every new figure except Yoda he was packed 2 per case. then x1 McQ Vader & x1 Stormie. Superb!

I picked up these the other night too, and I'm generally impressed...

-Malak...  Fantastic figure in general.  Super articulated, the eyes are NOT goofy on mine at all (very menacing), and the removable jaw is really great.  If you played the game, you know the scene the jaw comes off, and it's really f'd up.

-Revan...  Not so fantastic, but still a great figure.  Lacks leg articulation below the hips, which is undoubtebly due to the skirt piece, however I'm disappointed we didn't get knee joints still.  They would work somewhat, if even in a limited capacity, and would allow for a little more dynamic posing.  Still, the upper body is great, and you see his sithy skull behind the mask.  Very cool.  I'm still pumped to do a Revan/Character custom from the game.

-Pre-Cyborg Grievous (or Prevous?)...  Great figure.  Very large, amazing sculpt, nice removable headgear and cloak, nice accessories in general.  I was slightly disappointed at the arm articulation, as he cannot hold his rifle properly, but the figure in general is pretty great, and even sort of worth army building if you want some of Grievous' people for your hypothetical Separatist sentient's army.  At least I'm assuming they're Seps, so I might nab a handful to use as Grievous followers/troopers.

-Yoda w/Kybuck...  Hasbro outdoes itself in terms of figure for the money.  The Kybuck has some assembly required, but it's a great (and articulated) piece in and of itself.  A cool little bio on the back describes the beast and its relationship with Yoda.  Yoda's softgoods cape is incredibly cool and I dig how it points up on his noggin'.  The bandoleer holding his saber hilt is removable and equally cool, and Yoda's articulation is decent.  He can't hold a saber 2-handed, my only gripe, but otherwise it's a fantastic Yoda figure in and of itself, and great with the Kybuck.

-Roron...  OUTSTANDING figure.  Super articulated, super sculpted, super detailed.  He's just a great figure, and really makes his Jedi Talz teammate look kind of shoddy by comparison actually.

-Tattoonakin...  Again, another outstanding figure.  Able to hold his saber with two hands, and the destroyed mechanical hand is a cool extra piece to snap onto the figure (though be careful, I've found that the peg could probably snap off easily.  Run it under hot tap water to soften things up if you're afraid of breaking it).  The articulation isn't as nice as Roron's, and the pants aren't the proper color either (annoying), but overall a fantastic figure again.

I didn't get the Starkiller Hero.  In my neck of the woods, anything you find is usually lacking UGH and McQuarrie's all together.  Sucks, but it seems our Hot Wheels scum are starting to catch onto what's hot in SW, or so I'm hearing from the locals who run into them frequently.

I've also found a few Wave 4 figures...  Or, Hermi and 3PO anyway, and Hermi's one of my '07 favorites, easily.  I've waited on the Apple Eater for years, and he's great.  No LUke's, no CZ's, no McVader, no Umpass, and no AniFett's.  All in due time I hope.

Definitely that Roron beat my expectations - fantastic figure.

I also thought the Anakin was way better than I was expecting.  Malak and Revan are okay.  Threepio was a solid way to re-invent a figure we have 80 of, and star killer hero is pretty cool too.

Hermi is bigger than Ephant Mon and has a cloth cloak to boot.

That's what mine has. They're probably fine. I'm probably just looking for something to be wrong. I keep fussing over this little bit of red paint below his ear, trying get it off without scraping the plastic. I'm just ridiculous sometimes. :-X

Soo... my dealer hooked me up with a Wave 5 case last weekend for retail price, and I couldn't be more pleased with the new figures. Here's some mini-reviews for anyone who cares everyone to read and enjoy:
Yoda & Kybuck- After the TSC Tin set Yoda, I thought that the ROTS mold Yoda couldn't get any better, but I was wrong. The hooded robe (with ear holes!) is very cool, the figure has a nifty pose, and the lightsaber hilt/bandolier is a really nice touch. The Kybuck is just... wow. 2007 is definitely the year for collectors of Star Wars creatures. The Kybuck is very tall once assembled, but the articulation is very basic. Surprisingly, quite a few cool poses can still be achieved by this beast and Yoda looks great posed on top of him/her.
Grievous- Another great figure from this wave. The size and bulkiness of this figure (with all gear) reminds me of the Sneak Preview Wookiee Warrior figure. Arm articulation is not quite as good with this figure, and few poses can be achieved with Grievous using his sword or rifle. Articulation wise, this figure is the loser of the wave, but overall he is really, really cool with a great sculpt and a bunch of accessories.
Starkiller Hero- Not a very interesting or exciting figure, but it is still pretty cool. She is a great companion piece to the McLuke figure from earlier this year, and comes with a lot of removable bits and pieces. A great figure for a random spacer in a cantina setup/podrace scene or something like that.
Anakin- A pretty good figure with great paint apps, very good articulation, phenomenal sculpt, and nifty accessories. Downside: fragile wrist plastic. The hand on my figure snapped off right out of the packaging, but luckily my dealer has another for me, so it's all good.
Hermi Odle- Another highlight figure from this wave! The paint apps are a little odd to me (a bit too pink looking in some parts on the skin) The cloth cloak is a bit funny looking and hard to get to sit right, but the figure's sculpt, articulation, and weapon make up for that.
Malak- Malak is a very cool figure, and might be one of my favorites from the whole line. The articulation, weapon, and sculpt are all great, and he includes a neat little surprise with his head. Awesome figure for a Sep Commander or Dark Acolyte.
Revan- See Darth Malak
C-3PO&Salacious Crumb- Cool figures with neat paint apps, nifty features, and good articulation. Great combo and a good value for the price.
Roron Corobb- We need a new Foul Moudama figure. Hell, we need a new cantina Hammerhead figure. Roron is a great looking figure. Articulation is top notch and well hidden, and a better figure could not be asked for. Everything you want a backround Jedi figure to deliver is included. Now I cannot wait for Wolfman Jedi in December.

I got a chance to open this wave this week (via BBTS, not at retail around here yet), and it really is a nice wave.  The whole wave is pretty good, but I was especially impressed with the Clone Wars figures.  All three are great, and I hope we see more of them (like Voolvif Monn) in the future.  I usually get a little more jazzed about OT figures, but I think these might be some of my favorite figures of the year.  The Yoda with Kybuck is a great value for the price (and the Yoda itself is pretty nice too), Roron Corobb is an excellent figure, and even the Anakin was a pleasant surprise.  Anyways, just random thoughts, but I really liked the Clone Wars figures in this wave - stuff like this makes me hope that the upcoming Clone Wars line (next year) goes the "realistic/movie" style.  It really makes me hope we get an all-new Obi-Wan in clone armor eventually too, up to this quality.

Okay finally got around to comparing the ROTS version of Yoda and the Clone Wars version in this wave, just when I thought it wasn't possible Hasbro actually made Yoda shorter.  I knew the legs were different along with the hands but when compared to one another it's a whole new mold even the head, guess I just didn't realize that before so sorry if that was old news.  Great figure though, but I hope Hasbro eventually gives us a Yoda with ball jointed elbows.  I mean if you look at the concept Yoda, the TAC Jawa, even Ayala's knee joints & VOTC Leia's knee joints are all very very small so it could be done.
Title: Re: 30AC Wave 5 - Expanded Universe
Post by: Nicklab on October 8, 2007, 09:44 PM
I have to make note of this just because it's such a cool little detail.  And it's making me love the new Yoda in this wave even more!  It's definitely tough to articulate a character as small as Yoda, but he's got a decent level of articulation for his size.  And the accessories?  Very cool.  The softgoods cloak reminds me a lot of the vintage Jawa's cloak, which has really had some staying power in the realm of softgoods accessories.  And the utility belt?  Very cool!  Especially the lightsaber holster.  And I really like how it comes through the back of the cloak and that the lightsaber hilt accessory fits right in there.  Add in the lit lightsaber and Yoda's ready to go!

As for the Kybyuck itself?  Pretty cool.  It's not well articulated, but it makes for a decent mount for Yoda.

McVader's are showing here semi-frequently Rob, with the wave 4, 5, and 6 blitz we've been getting.  All WM's in my area are at least getting cases in about one a day out on the shelves, some getting literally dozens of cases opened and figures dumped where they can find room.

Got my wave 5 case today - but it was a revision case.  So now I've got to go out looking for an extra Yoda and McVader to open.  Those two figures being something other than what I was looking for made the whole thing less cost effective for me.   :(

That's distressing.  I should be getting my case today and I really hope that it's not a revision case.  I ran across a crap load of McVaders yesterday.  I'm probably going back again today.  I'll try to grab you one if they still have them.

Thanks for the offer, but don't sweat it.  I saw him at 3 TRU's over the weekend and am going to run by one of them today at lunch to try to get it taken care of.  Hopefully no one had any reason to buy them all up.

I got my second Wave 5 case from NewForce today, and it was a Wave 5, Rev 3 case.

The first Wave 5 case that I got from them (back in mid-September), was the original case Wave 5 case.  Hasbro must have had to fill the second half of NewForce's order with the revisions I guess...  better this than nothing for most folks though I suppose.  :-\

Yep.  The only shame of it is that I passed up wave 5 in stores several times expecting this, and now I'm stuck with a carded Airborne, Marine, and DST that I don't want.  I'm going to see if Target will take them I guess since I've bought that stuff from them before.

I also got the 2 x Rev 3 case from NFC (one for me and one for IamSith).  Its okay since I already had one McVader but I'll need a second to open now.

Just noticed that StarWarsShop has most of this wave in stock for individual sale, including Hermi, Starkiller, Yoda, and Anakin.  Too bad they want $12/figure  :P

I knew months ago when I first saw pics of Hermi, that I'd douse him in water and get his cloak to drape properly... so that's what I did!  Here are some pics of him out of the package, then after water treatment.  His soft goods are wet here, but rest assured after drying they kept the shape perfectly.  The material was great for water treatment, much like the VTSC Tusken's robes.

So Daigo-Bah, all you did was soak the cloak (hah!) and shape it? Once it dries it retained the shape? That sounds pretty easy, what's the catch?  ;)

I saw this wave in abundance once, and only took a few figures thinking I could get the rest later. Now it seems 6 and 4 are everywhere, with virtually no retail sightings of 5. I wonder if the whole wave saw a lower run due to hermi-

All there is to it!  When it dries, it isn't quite as dark as in these pics, but it does retain the shape perfectly.  This only works for the type of material used here and in the VTSC Tuskens cloak; it doesn't work with the Vader capes or TAC Jedi Luke type of material.  Just hold him under a running faucet for several seconds until the material is completely drenched, then set him down and shape it as you like.  It'll dry after several hours and stays fairly stiff if you have to move him around.

Anybody know what kind of m,aterial that is anyway?  Or is it something in the material....dye or what not.  It seems to work best out of all the of soft goods that hasrbo has used in the past.

jedipurge, it seems to be more of like a gauze material that allows you to shape it.  It's very, very thin material - I'm pretty sure that it's just the grade of cloth that makes it so easy to shape it.

Doubtful. This still has to hit Target and is just starting to show up at TRU. I've also been seeing this wave shipping simultaneously with wave 6, so there should be no worries.

Wave 5 was the first time I ever bit the bullet and ordered a case. I am among the people that did get stuck with a revision case from NewForce. So he technically isn't from this wave but I'm really only in need of a McVader. It sure was nice not really having to worry about this wave, cause I haven't seen **** here in CO. It has been about as dry here over the last few months as it has been in years. SO I may be in trouble fining some carded doubles of Revan, Malak, and the McQuarries.

Overall I'm really happy with this wave. Revan could be one of my favorite figures ever. The detail in that sculpt is amazing. I think I may have to find two more so I can customize my versions of Revan, both light and dark. The arm articulation on Greivous was somewhat disappointing, since he doesn't even have at the very least swivel elbows. 3PO isn't really anything special, but at least they tried something new with him. I think this is easily my favorite wave of the year.

I would not go as far to say that. They both peg warmed for a couple weeks in my area, and they were in abundance at local comic shops. Hard to find at times yes...hardest..no. Your best bet to find these figures will be among the trading boards on this site or any other figure trading site.

I think you're situtation is a rarity JT.  I also found Wave 5 to be the rarest/hardest to find of the TAC figures.  I saw them at Kohl's and Target at various points, but they were never around long enough to warm any pegs in the twin cities area.  Shockingly, a local target just got a fresh case of Wave 5 last week, so its entirely possible that other Targets in other areas will see these flow through in the near future as well.  Could be an isolated case where they were just cleaning out leftover stuff from the distribution center, but maybe Hasbro is pushing more of these out now that we're in the middle of a multi-month lull.

You're correct Justin, in so much as the Wave 5 was rare in most places.  Except Canada, where Jangotat resides.  We saw wave 5 in abundance and I can still find bits and pieces (including lots of Starkillers) hanging about the pegs right now.  It seems that it was part Hasbro shipping a lot of it up here on trilogo cardbacks and this was also the last wave of TAC we saw, so those tend to get jammed up and overproduced.  I know that's contrary to the last wave theory in the US, but this is far from the last actual wave of TAC, just the last wave on trilogo cards.  JT still has to come to the realization that Canada has very little to do with reality in the collecting world ;)

Jesse, I think the only thing I've ever sent you was a red ARC.  Your US Customs people are all fussy about sending "food" in the mail.   :-X  Maybe if I labeled it as "fire water" it might go through more easily.
