Title: Hasbro 3.75" Deluxe Figures

Here's some (http://i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?mode=album&album=Hasbro%2FIndiana_Jones%2FDeluxe_Figures%2FWave_01) carded and loose pics of the Deluxe figures from Indy, courtesy of TNI.

Man, I was so looking forward to what they could do with the new Ark, but after seeing these pics, I'm a little disappointed.

The sculpt is great, spot-on, perfect, no problems there.  But it looks like the lid and the base are two different shades of gold, which looks a little strange.  They also didn't include the poles to carry the Ark with, but you gotta have the poles, because everybody knows that if you touch the Ark, you'll die.

Maybe we'll see it released again with some minor improvements made, on down the line.

I could've sworn I've seen pics of an Ark with poles somewhere.  ???

I'm more disappointed with the face sculpt than the ark.

The deluxe Marion looks way better than the action figure!

It does?

Looks like the same exact sculpt, just with some slight paint and accessory differences (you the monkey instead of the big Staff of Ra medallion relic).

************

That 12" Ark looks fantastic.  Too bad I don't care about the 12" scale.
Title: Re: Hasbro 3.75" Deluxe Figures
Post by: speedermike on February 21, 2008, 11:50 AM
The 12 inch Ark had the poles.  Yeah, it's one of the odd cases where the Kenner one is much, much better.

I can't believe that they made two Marions in that outfit.  That 2-pack one is great.  The single carded figure should have been her Napal outfit.

Everything else looks good, but I will be passing on the non-movie stuff.

I love the Indy w/Ark figure and the Cairo thug, which I was really hoping we'd get at some point.  It's going to really suck trying to get extras of him with that Marion though.  I really figured we'd just get a single-piece Marion that was like the one with the Streets of Cairo set, that you put in the basket.

The Indy's only flaw, to me, is a lack of a removable hood...  I have learned to basically deal with face sculpts not truly representing actors at this point.   :-\  They're all over the place with every Indy they've done it seems.  The Cairo thug looks to share some Swordsman parts?  Still a cool looking figure and I'm glad we're getting him.  We need the Gestapo guys from Cairo now to go with them and the funky-toothed guy she smacks with the pan.

The face sculpts are really disappointing with this line.  It kind of puts me off of them too, which sucks because these are Indy toys and I have been wanting these forever.  Now, Hasbro Han Solo face sculpts kind of range all over the place sometimes, but man.   :-\

What really bothers me Spuffy are the eyes.  It seems the heads aren't too bad, but the paint job on the eyes on some of these is just terrible.

They're probably prototypes too, so at least there may be some hope for straighter eyes on production pieces (or at least some variety to look through).  Sometimes a sculpt isn't as bad as the paintjob, I learned that early on, so maybe there's some hope...

I don't think these Indy headsculpts are worse than Han headsculpts...  So to that end I'm not upset.  Disappointed maybe, but no more than I was to see VTSC Han's goofy pinhead.

It looks like HTS now has a deluxe section in their Indiana Jones area, with most to all of the deluxe figures listed.  The shipping date is 5/28, according to their site, but it does give an idea of what to be out looking for on May 1st.

Can someone remind me if there is any major difference between the Dlx Marion and the basic figure Marion?

I think I'd prefer the extra monkey with the DLX version instead of the pack-in thingy with the basic version...
Title: Re: Hasbro 3.75" Deluxe Figures
Post by: Morgbug on April 16, 2008, 04:33 PM
Jeff in one of the other threads it was basically stated that there is no difference, aside from a dirtier paint wash I think.

From the ROTLA thread:
Not only that, but the single carded Marion, and the Deluxe one seem to be the exact same figure.  Has Hasbro ever done that with SW?

Sharp eye, I went back and looked, and it looks like that set uses not only the basic Marion (with weathering), but also a repainted/new head Cairo Swordsman as well.

Same thread had this post:

Deluxe Dirty Britches Marion is the way to go.  No reason to go with the basic Marion unless you have to have the clean pants and/or whatever relic she comes with, for whatever reason.

Thanks, that's what I was seeing, but wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything. (I've not stayed on top of this line hoping to resist it...  ::))

Same thread had this post:

Must... resist... temptation...   :-\

Uh yeah...  :-[

To make a long story short, I'm come to terms with the fact that I am most likely "in" on the Indy line.  Not completeist mind you, just hoping to stick to Indiana Jones and the People He Killed.  :D  That will get me the big Indy variants (Hovitos Temple, Streets of Cairo, Tux, Crusade, KotCS, Yound Indy, etc) as well as some baddies to go with him (German Mechanic, Cairo Swordsman, etc).

As such, I need the Cairo Henchmen, since Indy killed a few of them... Marion is just a bonus I guess.... or maybe a curse since having her will mean I need more of the basic figs like Grail Knight and Henry Sr. and Short Round and etc...

Ugh, I don't know why I insist on pretending like I'm not going to just give in on May 1st when I see them all hanging there...   :-[

I think you can take solace that the line is probably not going to be that long lived.  A couple of years likely and it will die out is my guess.  As a fan of the line and the movies I hope for more, but I haven't convinced myself it's going to do much better than any other recent movie line release (Superman, FF, Batman, Hulk, etc.).
Title: Re: Hasbro 3.75" Deluxe Figures

I doubt I'll be able to resist.  I've already squirreled away a little extra because of this line...  I'm hoping it's longer-lived than you think Brent, but at the same time I'm not hopeful either.  I'm really wanting some obscure **** and just know that my tastes probably won't get met...

I should probably just be happy we're getting what we are.  It's outstanding looking so far, aside from a paintjob or likeness here and there.

I probably have the same tastes...but even with the most obscure characters, unless they go hardcore into the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, this line doesn't have more than 2 years worth of figures in it.  And like you guys, I am hoping to be wrong.

I want the monkey man's motorcycle...  I mean, come on.

And the funky tooth guy Marion actually slams with the pan (though I'm extremely happy we got the non-descript thug army builder too).  I want Indy in German DAK uniform from Raiders, and Indy in German Officer uniform from Last Crusade...  I want Marcus, and Sallah in a Fez...  I want the German Pilot for the flying Wing, and I'd love the Cairo Gestapo agents in the light colored suits with fedoras and MP40's.

I want Chinese pilots, Chinese Gangsters, Indy in tux, Indy's Chinese sidekicks (not just Short Round), and British Colonial soldiers from India...  I want the dude getting his heart ripped out.

I guess I want this line to last and know it isn't going to.  :'(

That's very cool that they used the white Schleich tent for a couple pics.  I've got that tent too (on clearance after Christmas at Target) and was planning on building around it for a diorama.  It looks great with the Indy figures around it... wish I had picked up more than one.

Someone I know got a German on bike and was telling me about it...  It's pretty nice and is gonna go well with the 1:18 military figures.  Removable helmet's great, and other than his Luger holster being a bit oversized I like most everything about it.  He needed the cloth to sit on the bike right so I'm ok with that.  I have some Germans with longcoats already that are vinyl and look better, so I'm not bothered.

I'm anxious to get DAK repaints of the bike, and hopefully a sidecar, for the Raiders chase scene.  And of course one with Indy and Dad.

Well I have some good news, there is a new DPCI # showing in the system now....   087-06-2069 Indy Battle Packs $19.99
I am REALLY looking forward to finding out what these are going to include!
There could be the motorcycle chase in TLC, maybe the Ark ceremony with an Ark ghost or better yet, the rope bridge scene from TOD with battle worn indy and temple guards!
If these are anywhere as nice as the star wars battle packs, we are in for a treat!

It all depends on what's actually in them... if we see a new figure or two, and a couple army builders, then I'm all for it.

Personally here's a couple I'd love to see -

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Idol Chase - Indiana Jones, Beloq, and three Indians chasing Indy

Cairo Chase - Indiana Jones, Marian in basket, German Officer, and two Cairo Arabs

Temple of Doom

Club Obi Wan - Indiana Jones, Willie, Lao Che, his two sons

Last Crusade

Venice Chase - Indiana Jones, Elsa, Marcus Brody, two Grail protectors

Indeed it does and this may put a severe stop to me buying anything at all until we know what's in them.  Hasbro got me a bunch of times with the SW stuff, but with a little warning, I can wait.

Totally! That Club Obi-Wan battle pack idea is outstanding.

I think unless it's in a battle pack, I can't see us getting figures from scenes like that.

I'm still having a hard time believing that this line will last much beyond the ToD wave.

Now that you guys have started buying them, can anyone do a quick compare between the single carded German and the 2-pack Germans?

Any differences or are all three figures just repaints of the same sculpt?  Three different heads or just repaints of the same head?

The head of the single german soldier figure is duplicated in the 2-pack but the color of the uniform is different. The second figure in the german soldier 2-pack has a new head.

It's a great figure. The individually carded German Soldier comes with the Shankara (sp?) stone relic and since I'm aiming to send away for three of the mail-away figures, I picked up a couple extra German Soliders so I now have three of the stones, and some extra guys to man my Troop Car and the Truck.

If I get more German Soldiers it will be via the 2-pack though, that is a great buy if you ask me.

I haven't gone through everything I picked up yesterday, but I was just curious, is there supposed to be a "ticket to adventure" form with the deluxe figures.  I found them in the Adventure Heroes and basic figures, but I didn't happen to see one in the three deluxes I've grabbed so far.  Just wondering - maybe there wasn't a mail in for this line and I'm just forgetting that.

The promotion is actually two parts. The first part is advertised on all of the products and that's the "My Indy Adventure" contest sponsored by National Geographic. The grand prize is your own Indiana Jones - type adventure to exotic locations.

The second piece of the promotion has three sub-pieces and is tied specifically to getting an exclusive mail-away item for the line.

So while the Deluxe figures do advertise the contest for the "My Indy Adventure" piece of the promotion, they do not come with any mini relics or relic stickers which are needed for the 3.75" mail-away part of the promotion.

Hope that helps explain things a bit better.

Did anyone buy the Indiana Jones with Temple Trap (ROTLA) deluxe figure.  I pulled mine out and before opening I was looking it over.  It looks like he doesn't have a thumb on his right hand.  That's a wee bit too much of an homage to the vintage line for me.  Anyone else have this problem?

I'm certainly not opening it until I check some other versions at stores.  The pain is this is the only jacketed Indy I could find without moogly eyes.   :-\

Oh and I haven't opened any figures, so I don't know if the mail away promo even exists in Canada.  There's no marking on the packaging and the packaging is trilogo.

The thumb is there, but it's bent down against the palm as if the hand is holding a gun.  The regular ROTLA jacketed Indy has the same thing, so does Dovechenko.

I just opened up my Temple Pitfall and Temple Trap deluxe figures - these are great sets. I would have preferred that the Indy figures had better articulation, but you can always substitute the figure you get with a regular jacketed RotLA Indy figure.

I also opened up the German Soldier w/Motorcycle - not only is the motorcycle fantastic, but the figure is great too, if you are picking and choosing what you buy with this line, I HIGHLY recommend picking up this deluxe set before any other.

  • For the 3.75" line, you collect any 6 relic stickers (this is akin to the VTSC/VTAC UGH silver sticker concept) and send away for a Crystal Skeleton Figure on a Throne (I'm assuming this is a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull figure)

Yep, I used to have a picture posted of it but Hasbro sent us a request to pull the image.

The line's got nice figures but I'm with Brent thus far.  The paintjobs are iffy at best.  The arabs tend to have better paintjobs and I felt the Germans were nice (I hate the genericness of their caps, but whatever).  Marion's a so-so figure overall, and almost eveyr figure has bad paint aps.  Some of the KotCS figures are better overall but really the Indy's are the worst for whatever reason, and it doesn't matter if they're deluxe or basic.  I got a passable basic SA Indy tonight at WM...

I used the coupon at Target to get some Deluxe and a SW figure, so that was cool.  Now they just need to put out the German truck and German car...  I'll pick those up and hopefully some basic figures to use the coupon and then I think I'll turn to WM which has better selection around here so far.

I just picked up an Indy and Sallah at a Wal-Mart in New Brunswick and Canada does have the promotion as well, it's written on the back of the card in small print. What I'm wondering is if it matters if you combine tri-lingual stickers with the normal english ones as I'll likely end up with a mix of both.

As for the figures themselves, they're both great! Looks like I've got yet another toy line I've been hooked into.

Ah cool, thanks Greedo.  I didn't notice it yesterday and the sticker isn't on the deluxe it seems.  TRU corrected their error on the deluxe up here and are now up to $16.99.  Bummer too because they had out Indy w/horse and the motorcycle too.  Would've been nice to snag those at the $9.99 price point I paid for the other deluxe.

I spent a chunk of time tonight looking at the figs really closely and I've come to the conclusion that Indy is definitely the worst.  I did find the whip action basic figure without googly eyes but in searching I noticed that the paint apps around the mouth on Indy figures are pretty generically awful as well, so I had to watch for that too.  I found the jacket ROTLA Indy basic fig that wasn't too bad, though he's got a lazy eye versus the googly eye.  I'll keep him carded for now in case they bring out something with better paint apps.

I've also noticed the German soldiers, including the motorcycle version, all have monstrous heads.  Anyone else feel that way?  Plus the non-motorcycle German soldiers are suffering from some bad eye paint apps too - really bad.

I agree with Jesse that the Arabs seem to be the best of the bunch, but I passed on the Sallah figures there because the eyes were shoddy on them as well.  Even the Monkey Man figure was super variable.  I sort of started breaking my rule of waiting to get these in the US for $3 less per figure because I really feel I need to see the paint apps.  There isn't a consistently well done figure, so ordering online is a really iffy proposition.  So I snagged the Monkey Man, Cairo Swordsman and the whip action Indy tonight.

While I'm griping, I thought the whip action Indy had a pretty major sculpt issue too.  It's pretty clear you're supposed to see his chest with the open shirt.  But they sculpted the collar into the flesh part as well.  Then they did the neck indentation as well.  Paint apps I can understand, but that's just brutal quality control on that sculpt.  I know no kid is ever going to notice, but collectors definitely will.

Finally got around to opening up the Indy w/Horse set. This is also a great set. The horse has some pretty impressive articulation and stands very well. Indy also sits very well on the horse.

The two deluxe sets where it's a figure and a vehicle/animal to ride are by far my favorite two deluxe sets.

So given Jeff's, Scott's and some other reports, it appears that decent looking ROTLA-jacket Indy's are out there.  With that in consideration is there any point in keeping the temple trap Indy figure?

I originally bought it so that I could have a decent looking Indy, but if they aren't all googly eyed, I have no real need of the temple trap feature.  Is the sculpt any different (better or worse) than the other sculpt.  Obviously I don't want to open it up to compare, but if I can return this and pick up the Indy with horse instead, that would be preferable.  I've no need of being complete on this line.  Opinions?

The Indy w/Horse figure is definitely your best bet in terms of getting a good Indy figure.

If you can't use the spare Indy figure in a diorama or display, then I'd return the Temple Trap set.

Yeah, I really like the ROTLA Indy I picked up.  It does not have the whacky paint apps on the eyes.  I bought the Indy/Horse set and there are no problems with the paint apps on mine either.  Good thing because it was the only set on the pegs.  The horse is great.  You can put into all sorts of poses with the articulation.  The whip does not stay on the loop the best but if you let it alone it will stay there.  The Indy is pretty good by himself except that he does have the wider legs that will look funny standing him up.  But he's fine for draggping under the troop car and hanging on the truck grille and sitting in the truck.

I finally found a few German 2 packs and bought 2 sets.  I finally got found the Cargo truck after 5 stores did not have them.  God that thing is great!  It looks awesome with all the Germans on it.  Of course I need to buy a few more single pack Germans to fill it.  Of course the German/motorcyle set is again great for $10.

The Marion/Henchmen set is great for the price.  Same Marion plus a repainted Cairo Swordsman for $5.  Marion does not really have a good likeness of Karen Allen but it serves the purpose well.  No crappy paints apps on her that I saw.

I skipped the Indy/Ark, Temple, and Pitfall sets for now.

Is anyone else having a tougher time finding the Indy/Horse and German/Motorcycle deluxe sets?  I know that I've seen a number of you that have found and picked these up, but I haven't seen any sign of them.  I was looking forward to these the most of the deluxe sets I think, and preordered some on HTS as backup (not shipping until July according to them though), but hopefully they'll start popping up at retail here soon.  Honestly, as far as I remember, I haven't seen the Indy w/trap sets either - just the German soldier 2 pack (which sells out), Indy with Ark, and Marion and Cairo thug sets.

I think they sent all the deluxe up here Brian.  No problems here with any of the deluxe you mentioned other than the Indy/horse set has those damn eyes.  Honestly, if I saw a good one (or a marginal one) I'm buying but I looked again early this am and nope, great googly moogly.

On the other hand, for the most part aside from one store we haven't seen any KOTCS stuff.  I did score both Indy's from that movie, but only Mutt was there after that.

I haven't seen that second half of the Deluxe sets yet but I know my WM had them on May 2/3... one guy in town wiped them out.  Target hasn't had the Horse/Pitfall/Motorcycle/Trap sets yet but has had the first three restocked at least once since the initial sellout on May 2nd.

I'm really looking forward to the Horse and Motorcycle sets and I still need to pick up one or two of the German 2-packs to go with the truck when I get it.

I've seen all Deluxe, and should've bought some of them when I had the chance.  The "playset" type sets are all gone, as are German Bikes, and Indy w/Horse.  You see a smattering of Marion/Arab but it too goes quickly, and I see German 2-packs (ironically) the most.

Which is nice because I'll take probably two more of those and a figure to use a coupon.  Fill the truck up with them schmucks.  It displays well with a couple hanging on the sides and a couple getting out the back to do the same.

But man, none of the rest of Deluxe since that first day.  I'm surprised too because I'd have thought the "sets" would've pegwarmed.

I see Indy w/Ark sporadically with the Marion/German sets, but he's sort of like Marion in that he goes fairly quickly.  It is one of the better Indy figures I suppose.

I have seen all of them but the motorcycle and horse sets seem to be a bit more scarce than the others.  Then again there a zillion Targets and Wal-Marts in my area so it's easy to find this stuff.

Picked up the Indy w/ Ark at TRU. Good set, although I felt a little underwhelmed in terms of value. This could've easily been released as a basic figure. The figure is really nice though, love how the whip clips on to his belt, and the soft goods are actually done very well here.

I'm thinking of picking up the German 2-pack, now that's a good value.

I checked a couple of Targets and a TRU this weekend to check their deluxe sets, but there wasn't much new.  TRU didn't have any (still), and Target had a mix of the Marion, German 2-Packs, and Indy with Ark sets.  I still haven't seen the trap sets, Indy w/horse, or German w/motorcycle sets at retail yet.  The deluxe do seem to be selling the quickest overall around here though, although everything seems to be doing fairly decently.

Yeah, I've thought about stopping in there again.  I went to WM on May 1st, and they just had the same 3 I've been seeing elsewhere, and I've been back there once since then and they were sold out.  It might be time to check them out again, I just hate going to Wal-Mart :P.  I'm sure these will all show up in nice numbers throughout the summer, but with the SW drought right now there isn't much else I'm looking for (except maybe the TRU TIE, which our store hasn't had yet) so I've been on the lookout for these.

I finally found the rest of the Deluxe figures while I was out of town this weekend.  I found them at TRU and a couple at a Wal-Mart.  I picked up the Indy w/ horse set along with the truck at TRU.

One Target I stopped at actually didn't have any single carded figures at all and they had stocked Deluxe on every peg but all they had were the Marion/Arab, Indy/Ark and German 2-pack, none of the rest.

My experience as well, however it expands to pretty much every store I visit...  No Motorcycles around since the first couple days, no Indy/Horse, no Indy/traps...  Just the 2-packs and Indy/Ark.  Not bad sets, but I would have really liked to see those other ones at Target, ya know?  :-\

It really seems like the Deluxe portion of this line might be the most popular - at least in my area.  All the stores are either sold out, or near it, and I noticed at HTS this morning that every single one of their listed deluxe sets are "out of stock".  With the basic figures sitting at $7+ each, maybe people are just looking for the better deal :).
Title: Re: Hasbro 3.75" Deluxe Figures

The Deluxe line is definitely a better deal.  Two figures or a figure and a huge accessory for $10?  It's a no-brainer.

I bought Marion on the first day half because I wanted the figure and half because I wanted the relic.  Still haven't opened her and I'm really thinking about returning her and just getting the 2-pack with her.  Honestly, I can't see why anyone would really buy that figure instead of the Deluxe set.  I guess a complete set of carded figures is the best reason...otherwise why bother?

Same with the German figures.  I thought the German would sell through because he's an army builder but when compared with the 2-pack, again, why bother?  Spend $20 and get 4 German figures, way better deal.

I followed CHEWIE's advice and hit our WM, and found the Indy/horse and German/motorcycle deluxe sets.  They also had the trap sets, which were tempting just because the face/paint on the Indys were pretty good.  I might pick one up eventually, we'll see.  I hit TRU after that to grab some baby formula, and they had the new deluxes as well.  It looks like both stores have restocked pretty well with Indy stuff.

Only reason would be the relic in the little box and whether you want them all or any of the specific ones that are in there.  Unfortuantely Marion comes with the headpiece to the Staff of Ra.  A not insiginificant piece relative to the Indy line.   :-\  Don't remember what's in the single pack German soldier box though.

I completely agree otherwise; I bought the Marion two pack and the German two pack and have yet to pick up the single carded versions of either.  I still think I might for the German because he's different enough (isn't he?) and maybe Marion yet unless someone wants to give up the piece?

The Sankhara Stone (from Temple of Doom).  Funny how two important props from the films ended up in those two otherwise undesirable basic figures, while the Indy figures came with generic "diamond" or "dagger" type things.   :P

I hate to say it, but I'm half tempted to buy the single carded Marion and German Soldier just for those pack ins as well.  Not that the figures are bad (I mean, having another soldier is no biggie), but I thought I was saving money by buying the deluxe packs.  We'll see I guess.  I think the only other "basic" figure I've passed on - off the top of my head - is the Mutt in t-shirt, but I'm thinking about grabbing that one now too.  We'll see.

Yeah, I'll probably by both.  Another soldier is easily manageable.  Marion though?  Yeesh.

My only real concern is that down the road they'll release a battlepack or different Indy figure (or Toht or bar Marion) that comes with the headpiece.  I'm 93.4% certain that if I buy the current single carded Marion that will happen.  If I don't buy the single carded Marion, it'll never be seen again and value will skyrocket on ebay.

If it's any consolation to anyone, the German is different from the two 2-pack Germans, so he's at least unique.  Makes stomaching the purchase a little easier.  Plus who is gonna sit in the German car?  You almost need 3 so one can hang on the side of the truck and 2 go into the car, right?

The thing with Marion, if anyone cares, is her head fits perfectly onto the Juno Eclipse body...  If anyone's interested, it makes a nice 2nd female Imperial figure.  Simple custom filler for the shelf if that tickles your fancy.  The Russian chick fits the same way, and her legs actually fit the grey Juno Eclipse sculpt perfectly without painting so you get the accurate jagdpur riding pants too instead of the straight-leg pants.

I've actually been wondering what else might make it into the Deluxe line.  Some quick ideas?

-German soldiers on motorcycle w/ sidecar - ROTLA
-German soldiers w/ crated Ark - ROTLA
-Willie Scott w/ lava cage - TOD
-Indy w/ mining car - TOD
-Thugee w/ mining car - TOD
-Young Indy w/ horse - TLC
-Indy & Henry w/ motorcycle & sidecar - TLC
-Mutt & Indy w/ motorcycle - KOTCS

The same thing showed up here E, as I popped into WM tonight.  Though I'm trying to do most of my purchases at Target, I couldn't pass up a German on the pseudo-BMW, so I nabbed one and a KotCS Indy w/Crystal Skull figure because it had decent eyes and I've not seen this INdy in a while.

They did put out some KotCS basic figures though along with the large allotment of Deluxe (Horse/Traps/Cycle sets).  If only Target would stock like this, however they've not restocked since Day 1 release stuff, and I think some still haven't got their Indy crap out on the pegs even.  It's sad.

I'm pondering trying to get a Coupon-acceptance at Wal-Mart at this point.  If Target doesn't want my cash, so be it.

That's just smart marketing on Hasbro's part.  They know everyone is going to buy the figures of Indy regardless of what relic comes with them.  At the same time, they also know that many people may decide to skip the carded Marion and German Soldier figures because the can get them in the deluxe sets.  So ... they give collectors an extra incentive to buy the carded versions as well.  In doing this, Hasbro has us by our collective balls.  Quite brilliant, actually.  Hell, I had no interest in the Irina Spalko figure, but I ended up buying one when I learned that it came with the crystal skull relic.

This deluxe line is seriously one of the best toy lines I think I've ever seen. Yeah, I'm passing on most of them (such as the Indy traps and such) but the value is just so great. You get so much bang for your buck, and it's really surprising to see in an age where less is more.

I've only picked up the Indy/Horse set and the German 2-pack and only plan on getting the German Motorcycle (and the Indy/Ark solely for the Ark) but still, with the quality of this line and the low price, I almost wish they just didn't even bother with the single carded line. I think the Horse is one of the coolest things Hasbro has ever produced. I was expecting a Kybuck style "statue" and was pleasantly surprised to find that the horse is SA. Kudos to Hasbro for this awesome line.

Well, 2 complaints, the hands won't hold the MP40 at all, but still I love this 2-pack and will be buying 2 or 3.

EDIT:

D'oh, nevermind.  The guy with Marion DOES have pinstripes, so the all white robes are actually a cool extra variation on that thug guy.  I may try to make them shorter though, somehow.  They're using the swordsman body which is taller and I just wish it had more articulation.

I'm just glad to get Cairo thugs though too.  I didn't expect them at all when the line was announced, let alone both striped and plain variants.

The Mutt does look decent, and might be one of the only Mutt's I buy if he's heavily articulated.  The bike doesn't look to be very similar to the German cycle.  I noticed a certain genericness to it that I figured would be for re-use as other bikes, but either this one's got a lot of extra stuff to fancy it up, or it's a new bike.

It's funny that I got my catalogue yesterday and didn't even notice the Indy figures in it...

I'm a little disappointed that this is only one new deluxe figure announced.  I was hoping we'd see a Raiders bike w/sidecar, or some more trap-like sets.  I suppose they're maybe not going to keep the Deluxe line running for very long though.

The thug 2-pack is great and I'll gladly pick up two of those.  Would like more arm articulation at least, but still it's a neat set.

D'oh!  Thanks.  I didn't remember ever seeing skulls at the bottom of the pit (or ever seeing the bottom of the pit for that matter) or seeing a free standing tree in the tunnel either, so I assumed it was from KOTCS.  I guess it makes sense from the rope on something and swinging over something to be ROTLA but it's a bit of a stretch to me.

It shouldn't be too similar to the German cycle given Mutt was riding a Harley in the movie.  I doubt that Hasbro went to the trouble of getting the license to put Harley Davidson on the bike, but one can hope.  Looks to be a V-Twin but I don't remember Mutt's bike having foot pads like that.  Nit-picky, yes, but I do like the bike overall.

I'm guessing the sunglasses don't come off (don't remember him wearing them in the movie) but that certainly resolves the issue about googly eyes (yeah, I'm obsessed).  I'll probably buy this one, as much for the bike as anything.

Also disappointed in not more deluxe variety.  Maybe they're being sensible and seeing how these sell first.  I know they've got some response from pre-orders by major retailers, but I'm not seeing monster movie displays like with previous movie (Hulk, FF) releases, so the stores are being cautious and Hasbro is too I guess.  I'm kind of wondering if they might not release the sidecar separately with another German soldier in the basic line?  A bit of a stretch in some respects given they could almost sell it as a deluxe, but they've done large accessories in the past in the basic line as we all know.  That could help explain the holes in the side of the current bike.  Then you have the option of having the sidecar or not having the sidecar.  Meaning you need at least three of the German soldier with motorcycle:
1. German with motorcycle, no sidecar
2. German with motorcycle to pair with the single release German in sidecar
3. German with motorcycle, single release sidecar, Indiana Jones to ride bike, Henry Jones Sr. to sit in sidecar.

Best to hop to it and buy up some more German's with motorcycle.

I'm a little disappointed that this is only one new deluxe figure announced.  I was hoping we'd see a Raiders bike w/sidecar, or some more trap-like sets.  I suppose they're maybe not going to keep the Deluxe line running for very long though.

I'm glad that they are making a Mutt w/Motorcycle figure, and I look forward to picking one up as well.  I'm a little disappointing that this (and the Thug two pack) are the only new ones shown, because - like Jesse mentioned - I'm guessing the Deluxe line won't go much past the end of the year (if even that far).  I just really hope we get a Indy/Henry Sr. with Motorcycle and Side Car pack at some point, so hopefully there is another wave or two on the way.  Short Round w/mining cart would be a neat pack too.

Yeah Brent, I don't see any similarities comparing the two bikes right now...  I would've guessed Hasbro to use one base and just add things to it in true Hasbro cheapness style, but it seems they actually tooled up a new bike.  Now I'm wondering what year Harley this may be based on...  Possible WOrld War 2 conversion bike is what I'm thinking here. ;)  How in the hell will I make the Tommy sheath on the right though.  Hmmm...

Pretty slick if it's all new as it appeared.

The thing I was thinking about was that the German bike isn't terribly accurate, but at the same time it's so generic that it really looks pretty decent still.  It's not a BMW or other make, you really just can't tell what it's supposed to be exactly, but it could be a BMW...  I figured the genericness was going to translate at some point to a Mutt bike actually, but it seems they did go the extra mile on this one.  Kudos to Hasbro then.

Now I want them to do the Monkey Man's bike.  Come on, you know you want it!

EDIT:  I'd add too that I'd be disappointed if they don't do a wholely separate German w/Sidecar in desert colors at some point...  The current bike's clearly the TLC figure while the Germans in Raiders had desert paintjobs, and sidecars (I don't recall if they had MG mounts or not).  I'd really like to see a repainted dessert bike with sidecar at some point...  One desert rider would be great and I'll buy a basic or two-pack to make the sc rider, but a rider with goggles on would be nice as a pack-in figure for it.

Indy/Henry w/sidecar would be nice then for the TLC release, but that'd be one hefty deluxe set...  Two figures, a good sized vehicle...  I almost expect to see battlepacks at some point.

Don't worry Jesse, I know historically speaking you'll know lots more than me.  I was more looking at the general shape of Mutt's bike and with the V-Twin in there, plus the tank shape they've done a good job on the bike even if no Harley logo.  Funny thing with the German bike I couldn't figure out the manufacturer based on any bike characteristics, so it really does seem generically done, though I'm betting someone has a reference photo somewhere.

I'd be ok repainting the sidecar if they released it singly, to match the grey bike.  Geez, I'd even repaint the grey bike if I had too, but the rider would be all sorts of whacked by not being in desert fatigues.

Battlepack?   :-\  I'm only leery because we see maybe half the battle packs released up here and when we do, they jack up the cost on us to stupid levels.  I'd be really, really pleased if they did some battlepacks with the bike + sidecar and 3-4 figures in each.  I'd prefer to see the four figures + bike w/sidecar rather than just three figures.  But who would you include beyond the obvious selections?

ROTLA: Desert fatigues German rider/sidecar companion, bike/sidecar and ________________
TLC: Henry Jones Sr., Indiana, bike/sidecar and _______________

I'll pick up the Mutt with bike, but I'll probably have to pick up the Jacketed version of him now too, if only for a headswap since I don't recall him wearing glasses (or gloves) in the movie either. Mutt figures are the only basic figs I see that always have a decent paintjob, so eh.

I don't think the Deluxe line will end at the end of the year though... I recall Hasbro saying during a Q&A that they had "big plans" for the Horse sculpt, so I have a feeling we'll get the Joneses and Sallah and Brody on horseback from TLC, and maybe Vogel and Elsa? I think they got to the Grail entrance by horse as well, but I don't remember.

I like the Mutt w/Motorcycle and I'm glad their doing the Cairo Henchmen/Thugs 2-pack - I will get at least two of those.

I think there will be a good number more deluxe sets, even if it's just figures combined with previously released vehicles/animals.

I'm wondering if Mutt's bike could be converted into this easily. :)  Not for IJ of course, but for my own selfish need of a Harley in World War 2 colors.

Here's some German bike photos:

I'm not terribly familiar with the German bikes of WW2 as I think there were a couple manufacturers but they were generally similarly designed, maybe to a military specification.  I do know BMW's was probably the most common...  And that the models pictured above were almost never seen without the sidecar, at least not in use by the military.

I was just pondering tonight though all the deluxe possibilities...

The mentioned horse packs would all be possibilities.  I could see Young Indy with horse too, as didn't he pilfer a horse at the start of TLC?

I could easily see the motorcycle with sidecar for desert and "panzer grey" too of course.  I'd be cool with just getting Indy with the bike and "dad" with the sidecar or something, if that's what it took to work.

I'd dig getting more playset type pieces like the jungle traps though.  The swing is a tad dorky, but it fits to the other trap and that makes it a bit cooler.  A knights tomb would be neat though, that maybe connected to a catacombs hallway trap or something.  It doesn't even have to be film accurate, I just dug the way the idol trap is a functioning "puzzle" and a playset.  Even with inaccuracies, it's pretty neat to me.  I'd dig seeing that extended then to film settings as well as some made up stuff even.  If they could cobble together characters like Sapito, Indy's pilot buddy, or other minor characters as pack-ins, more the better then to me.

Post by: Paul on May 29, 2008, 10:15 AM
Glad to see Mutt getting his own style bike.  I had already pealed all the bags and blankets/overcoats from one of mine.

As far as German Bikes go, from first hand experience of having one at one time, there were at least a half dozen manufacturers of motorcylces the Germans used throughout the war.  It was not all Military contract either, they conscripted civilian bikes of all types and sizes to make Mobile War...

Not all bikes had sidecars in fact they were actually 50/50, even the big models went side car free.

The bikes in Indy are more likely Urals or Jawas (yes Jawa) they are post war bike made in the "Style" of the WWII German Bikes.  They even had the "Suicide Shifter" on the tank.  The only reason I don't think the TLC bikes are BMW or WWII is that they are too light.  NONE of these bikes had the torque or power to "Pop a Wheelie" and the wheels are too small (very Dirt bike)  I assume that is why they are covered with blankets/overcoats.

I think Mutts could very well be a WLA Harley, but I would guess it is an trying to be an old Panhead or Flathead or at least that is the look.

If they make a Horse Pack, though I would prefer a different head sculpt.  The head sculpt is suitable for an Arabian horse, small narrow, dog like, but if they do the TLC horse, that thing is an American Horse, most likely Quarter Horse or Morgan (the preferred US Cavalry Mount).

But I'll take what they give as long as we get different colors...I'd take a bay, a chestnut or a buckskin if they'll make color variants..

I was not holding out for that reason alone but it would have been a nice addition.  Especially to differentiate between the carded Mutt version.  I sure hope they make Indy and Henry Jones with the motorcycle/sidecar fairly soon.  That's the main deluxe item I have been wanting to buy.

I assume they will make some sort of deluxe mine car with some character from TOD.  I just hope they keep all the deluxe sets at $10.

I presume you're trying to do something like this?

Looking at Mutt's bike, it seems doable.  But there are plenty of military add-on parts that would need to be fabricated to get this kind of look.  The windshield was optional, but things like the Thompson holster are very unique to the US military Harley's of WWII.  This particular Army model has saddlebags, but the Navy version that I saw at the Art Of The Motorcycle exhibit had metal storage boxes.  Still it seems like an interesting project.

Temple of Doom
- Temple thug 2-pk
- Short Round w/ small elephant
- British Solder 2-pk

The Last Crusade
- Sallah w/ camel
- Indy w/ Sir Richard's casket/Grail tablet
- Indy w/ Grail temple spinning blades

Crystal Skull

- Indy w/ refrigerator & manakin
- Russian soldier 2-pk

Shorty or Thugee w/ Mine car (TOD)
Willie w/ sacrifice cage (TOD)

Im sure of everything you listed and I have listed, we are bound to get a few of them!  Hopefully Hasbro will give a glimpse of the future deluxe sets at SDCC...

The pic came up as a red x for me Nick, and I couldn't get it to load for some reason when I copied the link...  Still though about the project I'm torn on how low the handlebars will sit and other small details that may hinder my opinion of the final look of it, should I go through with it...

Maisto made a nice WW2 Harley I guess but I've never actually seen it.  People have been taking Maisto wheels to replace the Indy German bike's wheels with, as the spokes are separate and not that solid mold.  That didn't bug me much, it's only $10 afterall, but I see where people are coming from too on it.

I think combining the German bike (it's very generic) with parts of the Mutt bike may actually make a better WW2 Harley actually.

I'm trying to think if I've seen any good shots of a WW2 with the steel "boxes" on the rear, or if that's a post-war thing.  That's a good point to consider though that I hadn't thought of till now.  I was going to go with leather regardless, just as I know leather was common enough...  The Thompson holster will be something I'd have to craft from pleather I think, or sculpt/cast which I really don't know if I'd pull it off well.  I'd aim for the pleather first I think, especially so it was very functional.

Indy w/horse would be a good starting base to make a rider for it too I think, though definitely gonna need a fair piece of work too.  It's a solid project for some point I think.  Of course, by then watch someone make a 1:18 scale WW2 Harley and totally usurp the idea...  Eh, wouldn't be the first time that happened.  :-\

Are we even sure that Mutt's bike in the movie was a vintage Harley?  Nick's picture doesn't even look like it has a V-Twin in it and Mutt's bike would be 10-15 years newer anyway, wouldn't it?
Title: Re: Hasbro 3.75" Deluxe Figures
Post by: Paul on June 11, 2008, 05:01 PM
Nick, I don't think that is a Harley.  That photo has the oppossed engine like the BMW and the Post War Chinese CJ750 and not the V that Harley is known for.

WLA and WHA's looked like this:

I have not seen them with Metal Pannier bags before, I've seen German Bikes of several types with Metal ones.

Here is a CJ for Comparison:

It is possible that Mutt's could be made to look like a WLA but my guess it is a Panhead they are more low slung.  Also, lets remember this is Lucas and Spielberg, in the Indy movies certain Anachronisms don't concern them, the bike Mutt is on could very well be a 1977 Springer model or Road King with some mods and tweaks to look like a 50's bike.

While I was checking the status of my Kubrick pre-orders tonight, I noticed the following figures listed for pre-order at Robby.jp (a Japanese wholesaler website):

"Deluxe Figure Indiana Jones with Rocket Thread"
"Deluxe Figure Indiana Jones with Map Room"
"Deluxe Figure Indiana Jones with Soul Trap"
(sorry no pics available)

All three have an 8/31 release date and are listed in a case revision with Mutt w/Bike and Cairo Thugs 2-pk.

The "Soul Trap" is a new listing and is not one of the two "trap" sets we already have since they have those listed as well (with the 5/1 date).

I'm intrigued.  I dig hearing a Maproom might be on the way...  :)  The Rocket Sled, eh...  Not sure I'm into that one  yet.  The Soul Trap sounds interesting though, as I liked those little environment sets they made...  I thought maybe it would have something to do with Temple of Doom, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, good news on the Maproom.  I just hope they execute substantially better than Indy w/Ark because that figure's decent, but that Ark blows.  And Indy should have his satchel, his diary/book, and an accurately scaled staff of Ra too.  Gotta be perfect this time.

"Q2. Will you be making an Ark Ghost in the 3.75 inch lineup? The adventure heroes ghost is my personal favorite and I think it would go great with the basic figure lineup as well! You could include a rotating head with the peaceful looking lady on one side and the other have the angry skull face.

The bike doesn't look to be very similar to the German cycle.  I noticed a certain genericness to it that I figured would be for re-use as other bikes, but either this one's got a lot of extra stuff to fancy it up, or it's a new bike.

Just a note to say that I finally got around to opening my new deluxe figures and yes, Mutt's bike is all new.  It was nice to see that it wasn't just a kitbashed german motorcycle and was actually new to the Indy line. :)

Mutt looks the same to me other than the hands and perhaps a new head sculpt... I hope those glasses are removable...

Mutt is pretty much a kitbash of the KotCS jacket figure with the glasses on and painted hands/gloves.   Glasss are not technically removable.  They are glued on, so I supposed if a person was crafty, they could pull them off, paint his eyes and then rig up a way to get them back on... seems like a lot of work though since there are plenty of Mutt heads out there.

It shouldn't be too similar to the German cycle given Mutt was riding a Harley in the movie.  I doubt that Hasbro went to the trouble of getting the license to put Harley Davidson on the bike, but one can hope.

The back of the card calls it a "home-built motorcycle", so no HD symbol on the bike.   :P

It's amazing what licenses need paid out there too...  I know the military line I collect has had to pay for the "Humvee" name, or "Dodge", and even the likeness of General Patton was a licensed thing that had to be paid.  I'd imagine Harley would want a lot for their name/emblem.

Good score on the figures Jeff...  Something to keep an eye out for I guess but I think I'm only buying the Cairo thugs if I see them.  Love those thugs.

Grabbed the Thugs the other night too. No sign of the Mutt w/Motorcycle figure. I guess someone came in and snatched them all up or the WM where I found them got in cases where there weren't any Mutt w/Motorcycle figures in the ratio. I had thought the thugs were only packed at 1 per case while Mutt was at 2 per case. Since there was easily 8 - 10 Thug sets, does that mean that this store sold through 16 - 20 Mutt Williams figures in two days?! That seems highly unlikely to me considering how poorly the basic Mutt figures sell.

I guess this is kind of a cross-license discussion, but what do you guys think about using one of the German soldiers from the two pack as a stand in for the Battlefront 2 Rebel Smuggler?  All three wear tan baseball style hats, tall black boots, tan pants, atleast one of the Germans has a green jacket like the Smuggler and the Germans have suspenders sort of like the straps for the Smuggler's backpack.  I haven't really done a custom before, just wondering if anyone else thinks they are close before I buy the Germans.
