Title: Target "The Battle of Christophsis" UBP
Post by: Jesse James on March 28, 2008, 02:35 AM
Clone Wars Ultimate Battlepack: 087-06-2070 $59.99

As per the front page story, a new Ultimate Battlepack, but for Clone Wars...  I'm wondering if this'll be animated stuff or what?  Probably I suppose, but still it seems like it's possibly cool news.  :)  Maybe it'll be worth buying the set for the accessories and selling off the figures if they're animated?

Any speculation on this one?

it'll more than likely be animated.  There has to be a vehicle with that price tag, but I haven't a clue to what it could be.  This is pure fantasy but I'd die if it were a Durge & lancer droids vs. Obi-wan and clones w/speeders joust!!!! Non animated of course

I'm hoping it's animated, just so I can leave it off of my "to buy" list. However, give the Legacy wave, I don;t think we can say for sure until we get more details. I like Bikerscout's idea though.

I would think it would be animated as well, given the big push for the movie and the kick off to the weekly series - but its hard to say.  With the $60 pricepoint, something larger would need to be included most likely - along with re-releases of the previously made animated figures.  Or they'll stick one or two new figures in there, just to rope in collectors (the ones who care about the animated stuff anyways).  Again, these UBPs do make nice gifts for kiddos if parents spend that much, so it could be another "holiday time" endcap deal at Target.  Hopefully it doesn't mean there are three UBPs this year, eek.

ATT
A few Spider Droids
A few Super Battle Droids
A few Battle Droids
A few Clones
Maybe a Jedi/Sith or two

Doesn't matter to me though, I'll be passing since it will most likely be animated.

I don't think this will be animated.  I see them packing in figures we already have from the realistic lineup.

Here's my guess, an AOTC set based on the Battle of Geonosis -

Separatists
- Destroyer Droid
- Super Battle Droid
- Battle Droid
- Battle Droid
- Hailfire Droid

Republic
- Mace Windu
- Yoda
- Clone Trooper (yellow)
- Clone Trooper (red)
- Forward Command Center (new)

Just wondering - Jesse do you know if the source who provided this information the same one who informed RS of this yesterday (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=3149491&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#Post31517023149491)?

Not a clue...  I got it in my JD email yesterday morning from someone I do not know, nor who wanted to be identified.  Nobody on the boards or I'd think I'd have gotten a PM.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Ult. Battlepack Rumor
Post by: CHEWIE on March 28, 2008, 03:43 PM
Gotcha.  The only reason I was asking wasn't to question the source, but just wondering if it was something that pops up at all Target stores in their computer at the same time, or if it's something their HQ gets early access to.

Wow, imagine if someone were to make up a DPCI and send it in saying it was listed as $199.99 Death Star.  I think I'd be out for blood.

This would be a good opportunity to make the Swamp Speeder vehicle....
Title: Re: Clone Wars Ult. Battlepack Rumor

Target's computers are updated, I think, through their corporate HQ's...  So I think once it's in the system at one store that means it's in the system at all stores...  That's why price errors and things are universal across stores like Target and Wal-Mart (like the Wave 1 2008 figures that all weren't ringing up at any WM store across the country, etc.).

I don't work there to know...  I've talked with some people who do, but never about how a DPCI shows up in the system and if it's in nationally once it's found.  The source that emailed me the # yesterday morning was in the South...  I don't want to say the state, but it's south.

Clone Wars battle pack:

My guess:
Capt Rex
ClonetrooperX3
Battle Droid X3
Battle droid commander
2 speeder bikes

All of the animated style of course.

I come to this assumption due to Hasbro penchant for rereleasing figures and ships. No new figures in this set though the Battle Droid commander is technically new due to the new paint scheme to make it look like a commander. Rex may have different batle damage on him and the clones may have battle damage on them. Just enough to make them different.

A good army building set to be sure, if you're buying the animated line.

If Hasbro has to have heroes in the set then take out a clone and put in Obi, take out a regular battle droid and put in Greivous.

Really I'd ALMOST be tempted at that pack. But I'm sticking to my guns and not buying this line, with exception so far to maybe Greivous once I see him in person.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Ult. Battlepack Rumor
Post by: CHEWIE on March 29, 2008, 12:35 PM
If the last two battle packs are any indication, we're going to see a mid-sized vehicle in there too.  Speederbikes alone with 8 figures, 4 of which would be Battle Droids (which now come as 2-pks) I don't think that would be nearly enough to justify a $60.00 price tag... but who knows.

Looking at the two previous ones, they had two things in common outside of figures - the each had a walker, and something new.  So maybe we'll see a red painted AT-AP (rather than Kashyyyk green) and some sort of new Separatist droid or something (like the Annihilator Droid).

So is this an exclusive (or maybe a Target UBP)?  There is a lot more in there than the "standard" battle pack would hold normally.  Kind of a neat pack though.  Not sure that its something I'll pick up, but I kind of like the repaints of both of those vehicles.

I'm thinking this is the second UBP for Target.  You have seven figures plus two $20 ships.  That would be a decent deal at $60 retail.

I believe you are correct sir.  The assortment on the box is also the same assortment which Hasbro identified for the Carkoon set from Comic-Con.  (And wasn't it a $50 retail last year?)  To me, that's a dead giveaway.

The AAT that we saw @ Comic con is a little bit different then what we saw @ comic con, but that could just be pruduction changes I guess.  This pack has the canons in black and the blue paint is darker then the preview.

7 figures? I just see 2 clones, Ani,2 BD, and 1 SBD. where is number 7?

I really like the looks of this set and depending on the price and release date I will try and get it. Only thing that sucks is that I will be stuck with 3 Ani figures by the end of the year at this rate :-\

I wish it could save me $20.  It's just different enough that I'm gonna want both tanks.  Which, combined with the 3 different ones I already have, is going to put the AAT mold in the running for the most repainted vehicle since the Jedi Starfighters.

I'm terribly lazy, so can someone post a photo of the upcoming SF assortment AAT alongside this one so I can see just how different they are from one another, and compare them both to how they actually looked in the film?  I'd rather buy the one that is animation-accurate, and for the life of me I can't find a photo of the individually-boxed tank right now.

Thanks for the links, Jayson.  It looks like the version that's coming out individually is the more accurate of the two (the detailing on the where the cockpit viewport would be is different and the one in the BP may or may not have the triangular lines under the CIS logo on the "shovel" section of the tank), but the one in the BP actually looks quite a bit more detailed and realistic.  The blue is a lot deeper and crisper on the BP version as well, at least from the photos.

If the UBPs are as easy to obtain as they were last year (being that Target actually has a lot of them for at least one week and has a set launch date for them), I'll probably just end up springing for the UBP.  I can always stick the extra BDs inside the tank.  The fact that the Clones are the version from the AT-TE with the little shoulder logo makes that a little more tolerable as well.

This is a great set. Glad I'll get two more of the Clonetrooper that is packed in with the AT-TE, that is definitely a nice bonus.

For me, the only change I would have loved to see is instead of us getting the Wave 1 Anakin figure again, we get the version of Anakin that's coming in the STAP battle pack - the one with the soft goods skirt. It would have been nice to have a second way to pick up another Anakin that could sit - something I'm going to want one of once we've gotten his new yellow Delta-2.

I've wavered back to the other side of the fence on this set lately.  I really don't need another AT-AP, nor do I need more Clones or Battle Droids.  Since the AAT is the only thing I really want out of the set, I think I'll just wait on the individual tank and pass completely on this.

One question, though:  Where is the long cannon on the AT-AP?  I thought at first that it might be packed inside the box, but seeing loose photos of it on target.com without the cannon, as well as the fact that all the figures (droids, clones, and Anakin) are holding their accessories, it makes me wonder if they dropped the large gun.  Or maybe it's similar to Hasbro's official Jetfire/Jetstorm combined mode photograph where everything is assembled incorrectly, making it look cheaper than it really is.

It's there, I grabbed two of these last night. I haven't opened it yet, but the long canon is atop the AT-AP and there's a Clone in the seat.

*EDIT* - Sorry I just looked at my open AT-AP and I think you mean the big long gun barrel that comes out of the "nose" of the AT-AP - yeah, that's there too - it's hidden behind the Trade Federation Tank in the packaging.

I was shopping for my son's birthday and came across this set.  The price on the shelf stated '$36.99' so I figured that was a definite purchase considering it has two vehicles and six figures.  Not realizing it was supposed to be $54.99, I went up to the register and was pretty taken aback when it was rung up for the full amount.  I pleaded my case and ended up walking out of the store with it for $37.

Nice.  I've tried that in the past with misplaced product/price stickers and always come up empty.  Nice score though.   ;)

Thanks man. But I have to confess, it really helps when you have your 3 year old son standing there with his big puppy dog eyes welling up with tears while you're trying to return an item and you're telling him we might not be able to get it...  Makes pleading your case a little easier...

After long last I opened this set up the other day and am still on the fence about selling off the figures.

Seen a few more in Target recently. Returns/leftovers perhaps?

Restock.  I have a feeling Targets still have a healthy stock of these in their backrooms sitting with the rest of the Sarlaccs.

Sounds like restock to me too... maybe once they make room for the Legacy Rancor, they'll move the UBP's to the clearance aisle.

I was surprised that Whorm Loathsom wasn't included in the set ... he could have gone with the tank! Anakin sports a darker paintjob that looks somewhat weird. It's a good UBP, as far as UBPs go.

Yeah, this set was very army builder friendly. I got 4 sets, and couldn't be happier.
