Title: Fringe
Post by: Jayson on September 9, 2008, 11:36 PM
Did anyone catch the series premiere tonight? I thought it was a very cool show... kind of an amalgam of House, Bones, 24 & X Files.

Thought the structure was off. Some of the cooler mythical stuff turned up at the end of the show that should have been reference at the head. Turned out better than I though it would though.

I saw about the first five minutes, but didn't get to see the rest.  Its on our DVR though, so I hope to check it out this weekend or something.

I watched it last night and enjoyed the show. It's got alot of potential even though the pilot had a few problems like being rushed but it should work out better in future episodes. I've got a season pass set on the dvr for it. I liked the lead girl and the mad sciencist guy. Everyone else was just kind of there. I could take them or leave them. I thought it could have used the Brent Spiner character from "Threshold" for a little comic relief. They missed a great opportunity to use another Oceanic airplane.

I recorded this last week and just watched it over the weekend.  I didn't know JJ Abrams was involved till the opening credits rolled.  Then I figured we were in for another "Lost" type show and, sure enough, first commercial break and they showed some symbol on the screen.  Before the show was even over I looked up Massive Dynamics on the web and found their site.

Then when, at the end, it showed the same symbol on a security pad as one of the commercial breaks showed, plus the in-show commercial for MD, I pretty much figured I wouldn't bother to watch this show if it's going to be another case of having to spend a lot of time off-air researching things in order to understand what's going on.

The show itself wasn't bad.  I liked Anna Torv and I've always been a fan of Joshua Jackson, even though he didn't have a huge part in the opener.  It's basically the X-Files meets Lost with a little Millennium thrown in.  In other words, it's not a new forumula.  I'll probably watch it again this week but once the new season really starts rolling, if something better is on opposite this show I might pass it up.

I watched the encore last night. I thought the writers kinda went out of their way to be weird. It was actually really dumb IMO. I might give it another try or two just to see if it gets any better. It does have a lot of potential, but it's no Lost. :-\

And who else thought that the floating letters in the sky whenever they went anywhere was kinda stupid looking and distracting? :P

I thought it was good.  I'm interested to see where the story is going to go.

I kind of liked how each location was labeled with huge floatting words. I kept expecting someone to run into one of them or to have a truck swirve around them. Maybe that is one of the mysteries they will have to solve?

Now we're getting somewhere. Last nights episode with the "pod" really worked. Simple and mysterious, that episode had a lot going for it.

I dug it a lot as well. The "Observer" is a cool/freaky character and Peter and Walter's character development gets better every week.

Scary thing is I know a guy that looks exactly like The "Observer". Walter rules!

So do I. And he's a SW collector. :-X

In fact, he's the guy who got hit with the scaffolding at comic-con this past year.

I think it put to rest the "where could it go after this season" speculation.

This show has really grown on me. It's sure got it's legs and has become as fun as it is cool.

For those who watched it tonight and got really confused as to why Charlie was alive, it was an unaired episode from Season 1.
Would have been nice if FOX said it was unaired episode beforehand...  ::)

Charlie's dead then? We just had that episode with the firestarting twin sisters  ;)

Yeah it took me about half way through to realize this was clearly an episode they didn't show before and just decided to dump on us now. Pretty worthless.

That one was pretty much "the monster of the week" episode. Tonight's episode sounds good though.

I really enjoyed this week's episode. What a scary idea. And to tie it in with the Nazis made it even scarier.

Well, now I know what happened to Charlie. I wonder how that shape shifter will adapt to being Charlie. I mean, he's got a wife, a job at the FBI...

Hm, if there's Nazis involved...... Indy's your man  ;D

I'm glad the last season of Lost starts only 3 days after it begins over there in the US!
