Title: Iron Man 2 Toys
Post by: Brian on January 26, 2010, 05:28 PM
For those interested, it looks like Hasbro announced its line of Iron Man 2 (http://www.marvelousnews.com/index.php?catid=23&itemid=12747) products today.  More info and pics at the linky.

Wow, very cool lineup of basic figs.  Interesting to note that there is a Movie Series line and a Comic Series line...I wonder if they will ship in different assortments.  I'll definitely grab most of the IM figs.  My only complaint is the lack of non-armored characters.  It would be nice to get Tony in a business suit, Fury, Potts, Black Widow, etc, (I think BW is coming in the Universe assortment though).  thanks for the link Brian!

Yeah, I agree. This is a great looking line. I dig the Deep Dive armor and am very glad to see Crimson Dynamo. Whew, and War Machine, sweet! (Though I still don't like Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard.)

Anytime I can get Scarlett Johanssen! Er, Black Widow, lol.

I agree there should be at least a few non-armored characters. Col. Rhodey would have bene nice. BUt not the Don Cheadle version. So if they make Rhodey, I hope they'll consider making the original one as well, since they'd likely make the Cheadle version first. And what about Jeff Bridges? lol

I picked some of these up from TRU last night for $6.99.  So far I nabbed the following:

Crimson Dynamo
Mark I
Mark II
Mark III
Iron Monger (not sure if I am keeping due to size)
Power Assault Armor Iron Man
Hypersonic Armor Iron Man

I didn't see War Machine or Deep Dive (on the fence with that one) - someone beat me to it.  I left a bunch of the Stealth, Classic Armor, and Original Iron Man hanging.

I recall hearing about coupons packed in with these figures (I haven't opened any of mine yet  - and don't plan on it for some time) - iirc they sounded similar to how the clone cash worked.  Anyone have anymore info on this?

I haven't heard about the coupons.

In this wave I'm really only interested in Mark I and War Machine.

As far as Iron Monger goes, it's a nice looking figure, but actually the 6" Iron Monger is the correct scale up against a 3 3/4" scale Iron Man.  That's how I have mine displayed and it looks awesome.

As you can see, Hasbro's 3 3/4" Iron Monger would be embarassingly small when displayed with the Marvel Universe figures.  It's good to put somewhere else, like a desk that has no other 3 3/4" around.

I thought I read somewhere that the official "street date" for these is supposed to be March 1st, although that might be wrong.  I think our local TRU had these at some point as well, but all I saw were the Super Hero Squad 3 packs when I last visited.  Are both the movie and comic figures showing up now?  I'm debating how many of these to get.  There are a lot of cool Iron Man armors from the comics that would be tempting (and some villains), and I know I'll at least get the Iron Man and War Machine from the movie line (and maybe the Iron Men from the previous movie, we'll see).  I noticed that WM is supposed to get a 6" line (exclusive), so I may look to those instead (or in addition to).

Dang, I knew I should have posted a thread on this...lol

Anyway, earlier this week I found some of these too. Not the good ones like shmashwitdaclub found.

I only found the classic IM, stealth, crimson dynamo and 1st appearance IM.

I'm getting one of each one of these. I want to make an IM hall of armor and these will fit very nicely into my idea.

When I make dioramas, I tend to deal with the disparage of scale by making the dioramas "skewed" perspective. That is to say that larger items will be in the front and smaller ones in the back but the diorama made in such a way that when you look at it, it still looks as though the smaller items are in scale. Angled elements help greatly with this effect and it's something I'll use for the IM Hall of Armor.

Yeah, I am very frugal in my collecting since I buy so much (I collect SW, GI Joe, and Marvel all in 3 3/4 scale - used to do IJ too) - so I gotta watch out for overlapping releases of figures and I don't open most anything until months after I get it and keep all my receipts - its hectic - but its how I role.

For this line I am watching out for those IM2 exclusive whatever light up base things that Target is going to have.  IIRC the models in wave 1 (implying the possibility for further waves?) as shown on the TF slide were Mark IV, VI, and Warmachine.  So, while I am not certain how different, or if I want Mark IV, or VI, Warmachine may very well be a duplicate - so I am not certain if I will get/keep a single card release.

I picked up a couple of IM2 toys at TRU as well about a week ago.  No sign of the comic ones, but I nabbed IM Mark I, II, III, Hypervelocity and Stealth armor.  I think I got a 6th - Extremis armor maybe?  I could not bring myself to buy the standard red and gold because the paint was so bad and the underwater armor was just too silly for me as well.  I'm most looking forward to War Machine and Crimson Dynamo.

I'm hoping to track down the Target Exclusive armor cylinders as well.  Even if there are only 3 figs, it would be cool to buy extra and display all the armors that way.  DR - I like the idea of the 6" Monger displayed with these - I may have to nab one of those.

I ahven't opened mine yet, but didn't see anything from the outside that resembled clone cash or any other coupons.

I picked up the Mark III Iron Man, Iron Monger, Crimson Dynamo, and War Machine today at TRU.  They had the other movie, concept, and comic series figures from the initial waves, but I passed on them.  I may have to eventually get the Mark I Iron Man.

I got the opening **** pit version today - thats the one you want to go with - he is the SA version.  The other Iron Monger from that line has some stupid sqeeze leg kid feature - mine didn't work and he is going back to the store.  Anyway, I grabbed him at Target - where these toys (Iron Man 1 figures) are on clearance now for around $5.50.

I picked up a couple of the new Iron Man 2 figures tonight. Grabbed War Machine, Crimson Dynamo and Mark 1 armor and I must say I'm very impressed with the quality of these in comparison to most of the other Hasbro Marvel figures I own. They feel sturdier, the paint aps are solid, the sculpting is sharp, the joints are all tight and they're nicely articulated. Compared to the Wolverine Origins figures, these things are masterpieces, had the WO figs been done this well I bet they wouldn't have stunk up the pegs quite as badly as they have in my area. Very happy with them, hoping to score a few more later. It would be great if they give us a business suit Tony Stark eventually.

I think this will be one of those movie releases where TRU will have a HUGE Iron Man 2 display right where you walk into the store.

So far I've only seen them at TRU just once, but as far as I know the official release date is in March.

That would be correct.  March 1st, to be exact.
I picked up a couple more Iron Man figures this morning from a local Target.  I used the DPCI and had them pull a case of Collection I.  I grabbed the Mark I, Mark II, and Deep Dive Armor for myself and an Iron Monger for a friend of mine.

what are your thoughts on the Deep Dive?  I have yet to seem him and I am on the fence about him even when I do see him - but I am leaning towards "yes".

Also, I could have swore I heard that War Machine's head is swivel and not a ball joint - can anyone confirm either way?  If its swivel its not a deal breaker of course - the figure is awesome looking.  I just want to know.   thanks in advance.

I'm a die-hard IM fan, but could not bring myself to buy the deep dive armor.  All of his armors are air/water tight, so seems ridiculous to me that he needs to take the GIJoe approach of a specific armor for fighting underwater.  It also just looks silly.  Haven't come across War Machine yet, but that is the one I'm ost looking forward to.

I think War Machines head is a ball joint, just not a very good one, and behaves more or less like a swivel, but there does seem to be some slight tilting up/down, side to side movement going on with mine.

I like the look of the Deep Dive Armor (though I haven't opened it yet).  I bought it specifically because it's different compared to the other Concept armor that is currently available.
War Machine's head is a ball joint, but as mentioned already, it's not a very good one.  His head can barely tilt.

I ended up seeing and buying Deep Dive last night -  I like the look, though I do agree with your argument Jedijman about the air/water tight armor - I guess it doesn't make too much sense.

One of my local Wal-Marts did a semi-reset (which, as is typical for WM, means cramming all the existing stuff closer together to make a small spot for a new line) and put out a whole shitpile of IM2 stuff.  Most interesting was that there were figures from the second film, which I hadn't even seen photos of online.  Then again, I wasn't really looking.

Anyway, the figures I saw were:

-Mark IV Armor (same general design as Mark III but a bit bulkier and a different chest piece)
-Mark V Armor (kind of a minimalist silver and red design with a rocket-firing suitcase)
-Mark VI Armor (the one with the triangular arc light chest piece)
-Mark VI Armor "Power Up" (press on his head and the torso lights up)
-War Machine (film version)
-Inferno Armor (Concept Series "Firefighter" armor)

I picked up Marks IV-VI (but not the light up version) and War Machine.  They're nice figures, and I'm really impressed by the level of detail in this scale (as many have said, the Mark I outshines the 6" version from 2008 by a mile), but some of the joints have been either stiff or loose, particularly on the Mark IV's "waist" joint.  Mine wobbles around like late 1970's Tony Stark on a bender.  My only other complaint is that of about 26 figures on the shelves, 24 were some version of Iron Man, with only two villains (Dynamo and Monger).  Oh well, I really hope that Hasbro doesn't make Scarlett Johannsen look like crap.

Yes, I think TRU is on board for a 6" version as a 2-pack.  I haven't seen very clear pictures, but it was in the Marvel presentation and looks much improved over the prior Legends version and this smaller one.

Had to really chase these down the last 2 days, but finally caught up with them this morning and bought:

2 x comic War Machine
1 x Mark I
1 x Mark II
1 x Mark III
1 x Hypervelocity armor
1 x comic first appearance
1 x Crimson Dynamo

My Targets actually held these until the March 1st release date.  I was at one last night and they told me they're in the stockroom, but can't sell them yet.  Promptly showed up at 8 AM and waited 20 minutes for them to bring them out.

Also, $6.99 for these is nice - considering they're as good or better quality than MU and those are $8.67

The comic version of War Machine is so good that I don't even want the movie version.

wow - I will have to do a comparisson when I see them in person.  I would have never suspected that.

edit:  just saw a pic of the comic version online at HTS (if you click the borken links the pics show up) - and yeah, he does look real nice.

and if this thread gets any more pictures of Scarlett Johannsen in it - I won't be able to work for the rest of the day.  she is so hot....

edit:  just went to HTS to see if they have these up yet - and they do.  no pictures of the product yet - but it looks like they will be holding on to their toys for this line, as they all look to be priced at $7.99.

Sorry HTS - you won't be getting any order from me as I am sure these will be plentiful at retail.

ps - how much is WM selling IM2 figures for?

Get it ... trust me.  Right now, I consider the Comic Series War Machine my favorite 3 3/4" figure from any of the Marvel lines, but it's still worth picking up the movie version.  It's a great figure and it goes better with all of the Movie Series Iron Mans that you've already picked up.  I don't think you'll regret the purchase.

They put out a boatload at the TRU I went to today.  I'm guessing 20 pegs crammed full of basic figures.  I'm pretty impressed...there are some nice looking figures in these lots.  And it's nice to see the drop from $8.xx for MU figures down to $6.99 for these.

I checked WM and TRU for the Iron Man stuff today.  WM had a small selection, all comic figures, but not a ton of stuff.  TRU had a pretty big display in the action figure aisle with a mix of movie, comic, and concept series figures (and the other stuff like the exclusive Mighty Muggs, the larger Iron Man, Super Hero Squad packs, etc.).  Unless I missed them though, I didn't see any of the figures from Iron Man 2.  TRU had the Iron Man 1 figures (Mark I, II, III, and Iron Monger), but that was it for movie stuff here locally.  Target didn't have anything out yet.

Went on a toy hunt yesterday since these were supposed to be officialy released:

Target:

Comic version WM.  They also had all of the figures I had previously purchased at TRU days before.

WM - they probably had 8+ pegs jammed packed with every figure I had previously seen plus the new ones I got below:

Movie WM with from what I can tell has red eyes and a red circle around his chest thingy - there are reports of there being a blue variant, and I also got Mark IV, V, VI.

when I got home I had a kinda buyers remorse type feeling on all the Mark figures - how many IM suits do I need?  Especially when on 2 (Mark IV, and Mark VI) of them the only difference is the center of his chest?  So I dunno if I am gonna keep them.  I am really kinda waiting to hear more info on those Target armory light up base packs I think before I make a final decision.

The only figure I have opened so far is Mark I.  I kinda regret doing it for the reasons stated above.  I am thinking Target will be doing a pack for all the armor models, and it would be pretty sweet to have them displayed that way.  I would return all of my single cards for those exclusives - given the right price of course.

Only complete passes, no double takes,  so far are animated Mark I, Classic IM, Stealth IM, and yuck - Inferno IM

Did many of you see the figures from the new movie?  I didn't see any here locally (Target hadn't put them out yet), but I was wondering if they might be on the way a bit later in some cases.  I saw movie stuff from the first movie, as well as comic stuff (and concept stuff at TRU), but I was sort of hoping to pick up the movie (Mark VI) Iron Man and War Machine.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

I think the first wave is the first movie stuff and the comic series, while wave 2 is supposed to have the mark 1V, War Machine and Whiplash, plus a few other variant armors, so it's possible that the 2nd wave hasn't hit in big numbers yet.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

I was half expecting to see Whiplash out in my hunt yesterday and today but no dice.  I went to a WM on my lunch break and while they only had 3 pegs jammed packed with figures in their respective plannogram space, I also noticed after walking around a bit that they also had a ton of figures on several side endcap spaces.  So, you may wanna check those areas for "overflow" figures at WM.

The comic version of War Machine is so good that I don't even want the movie version.

I found some of these yesterday as well (mainly the comic series so far), and I have to echo the sentiments that the figures seem really well done.  I picked up the following:

Iron Man (1st Appearance - Comic Series)
War Machine (Comic Series)
Crimson Dynamo (Comic Series)
Iron Man Mark III (Movie Series)

All were very well done, and as it has already been said, War Machine in particular is a very nice figure.  I have to say, after a bit of a rocky start, it seems like Hasbro might be starting to hit their stride with this 3 3/4" stuff - or at least getting much better.  I thought the Universe line was sort of hit and miss in the first few waves, but after receiving the new wave recently (Extremis Iron Man, Modern Thor, Luke Cage, Black Widow), these Iron Man 2 figures, and also the "Super Poseable" Spider-Man from the new Spidey line...all are very well done, solid figures.

Wave 2 of the Movies Series, which contains Marks IV - VI and War Machine, only hit one Wal-Mart around here, so they seem to be in less supply at the moment.

I was half expecting to see Whiplash out in my hunt yesterday and today but no dice.

Whiplash doesn't make his first appearance until Wave 4.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I have all of the IM2 figures that are out right now.

Movie Series:
IM Mark I
IM Mark II
IM Mark III
Hypervelocity Armor
Deep Dive Armor
Power Assault Armor
Iron Monger

Comic Series
1st appearance IM
IM (Classic Red/Yellow)
Stealth IM (Same sculpt as above but now in a deep blue/purple-ish deco)
Crimson Dynamo
War Machine

Deluxe:
IM-Juggernaut Upgrade (Same as Mark VI but better articulated and paint app is a little different-more gold)
IM-Negative Zone Upgrade (Same as Mark VI but better articulated and paint app is a little different-sap gold for silver instead)

And finally the IM car with IM Mark VI

Here's a link to reference each currently available IM2 figure: http://www.advancediron.org/forums/index.php/topic,3348.0.html

A note about the Deluxe and IM Car figure. These are all the same sculpt. However the deluxe figures have decidedly better articulation. If you are looking to make one of these the Mark VI armor for your collection go with the "Juggernaut" version. The IM from the race car set has very basic articulation. (Head, shoulders, hip ONLY) As well the plastic for the race car IM figure is softer. This figure is hard to stand straight and with the lack of articulation it's near impossible to correct it.

It clearly was made to fit inside the car as its legs are so tight to the body.

Unless you REALLY want the race car (which I did), I suggest passing on this set.

The deluxe figures are decent, though I do not think they are worth the $15 price tag. Since the regular figs are $7, these deluxe shouldn't have been more than $12 for what you get. The "Negative Zone" armor IM is cool for the different deco, but the large accessory that goes over the armor is very wonky. It's this huge chest missile launcher that just doesn't look good at all. Though this set does include snap on forearm armor than differentiates this figure from the other two Mark VI designs. So it looks different enough.

Since I'm a big IM fan, I was compelled to buy each version. If you're a casual fan, you might want to pass on the deluxe figures as well, or risk buyers remorse.

Other than those three, I'm VERY happy with the basic carded figures. Well made, great articulation and paint app and all for a decent price. I think this line will be a success.

Personally for me, I'm excited because I've wanted to build an IM hall of armor diorama for sometime and just didn't have enough IM figures to do it. This series had made that possible and I greatly look forward to finally making this dio happen.

Respectfully,
Sal

I stopped at the WM across town from us today, and they had the best selection of IM2 stuff yet.  I think they had most to all of the current figures, so I was able to pick up the movie versions of Iron Man (Mark VI) and War Machine - both look very nice.  This really has the makings of a good line so far.  Iron Man lends himself to multiple versions so much better than a lot of other heroes, since he literally does have several costumes.

You know, looking at this War Machine stuff, that character has a chance to become quite popular with a new generation who hasn't heard of him (kids in particular).  You've got Iron Man's armor, but with tons of guns and everything, and its black - what more could a little kid want? :)

NM, I found links. Dang, okay, so I saw the pics for the Mark 4 and Mark 6 but not Mark 5. Also there is another deluxe that looks sweet. Shockwave armor. He's mostly red with silver. Faceplate is red on this one, I LIKE it!

Man, add those to the Marvel universe figs, and there are already plenty of variations. That Hall of Armor is going to look great!!

My Target put out theirs today.  I have to say I'm really impressed with the line overall, even if it just a bunch of Iron Men.  Didn't see much beyond the first wave (no sequel figures) but I was glad to pick up the original suit (Kirby) version.

I saw these today, nice line of figures - even if, like Darby said, it's a bunch of Iron Man figs.

I saw a pretty good mix between the three stores I hit before going into work. I've see the movie line Mark I - Mark VI suit figures, plus three or four different Concept series suits, War Machine, Comic series versions of Iron Man, Crymson Dynamo, War Machine and the Kirby version of the suit. As well as Iron Monger. I think that might be all that's out right now.

I'm not sure if this is going to be in the movie or not (although it's part of the movie series, so it might be) - but I was reading the back of the Mark V figure and it indicated that this version of the suit is a portable "suitcase" version of the suit. Is this something new they created for the movie or is it something that has been in the comics?

I saw some of the Iron Man comic figures at WM the other night and then tonight found both the comic and film figures at Target, which just set a huge section for them (nearly a quarter aisle).  The figures look pretty good.  The comic War Machine is really nice, I almost bought him.  I never read any issues with him, but I've always liked that armor.

The $6.99 price is much nicer than the $9 that the Marvel figures were selling for.  I didn't pay much attention to all the various oddball items, I just looked through the basic figures so I don't know if they had the Hall of Armor exclusive.  Is this in the 4" scale or 8"?  I might have to look for that either way, sounds kind of cool.

I went again to Target yesterday to take a look a round because I am interested in the premise of these sets.  I looked all over the but it seems these sets aren't built into the plannogram yet.  I kinda figured/had a feeling for some reason that these would be available upon release - but it doesn't seem so at this point.

I guess I just kinda had this feeling because I think Target would have had a better chance of selling through these now than if they wait.  Parents might spring the couple extra $$$ for a light up base now, rather than going back and buying the same figure over again just to get a light up base - collectors too.  Perhaps they aren't going to be out now until the movie releases?

This is one of the reasons why I am pretty much waiting to open any of these.

In the olden days of comics (80's Iron Man), Stark carried around his armor in a business briefcase.  I always thought it was a little goofy as that would never fit in a normal case, but it was basically just the helmet, chest-plate, gloves, and boots.  The golden layer between those parts was either super-thin stretch metal or extended out from the other parts.  Would be kind of cool if they were able to fit something like that into the movie.

It would also be really cool if they could work that concept into one of the figures. Great way to give us a business suit Tony while still giving it kid appeal due to the snap on armor.

I think most of these figures look great, and did pick up a few (for custom fodder).  What gets me though is why they don't put some more variety into the character selection.  Why not more bad guys?  Or other people from the film?  I think it's Iron Man overkill when basically every figure is of him in a different suit.

What, and break the record set for most Spider-Man variants released without a villain set in 2004?   ;D

I don't know why they do this either.  It's no fun to have a bunch of heroes with nobody to fight, especially when they're superheroes.  But look back at all the companies that have done hero lines and you almost always have huge amounts of the good guy(s) and the villains are always rare and hard to come by.  Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk, Justice League Unlimited (for the first year or two) now Iron Man.  I'm sure there are others but those are just off the top of my head.

That's one thing I like about the Star Wars and Joe lines, you almost always have a bad guy on the pegs at the same time you have your heroes.

I don't understand why they always hold back the bad guys with these comic book movie lines either, and then when they do release them, it is often in smaller numbers.  I can understand, to some extent, the various versions of the main hero.  Iron Man in particular works pretty well for this (both movie and comic), since he changes his suit a lot (or, in the case of comics, has had multiple versions).  But the lack of supporting characters or baddies I don't get.  I know they are coming eventually, but I think they should at least have Whiplash out there a bit earlier.  I guess there is an Iron Monger from the first movie, but still...even kids like to have the bad guys I think, particularly in this "1 on 1" scenario of hero vs. villain.  Otherwise Iron Man just has to fight a different version of himself.

Now, can anyone recommend good movie versions of Iron Man and War Machine? I'm really only looking to get one of each, and preferably the better figures currently available.

If you're going MU scale then the Mark III is good. It's from the first movie. Retails right now for $6.99. Just be a little careful about your selection as it's in a little bit of a funky position so that it's lower right leg may be a smidge warped. Not bad mind you, just be mindful of this when you pick it up.

Currently in the MU scale that I know of there is only the Comic Book version of War Machine, and it is excellent! So I'd recommend getting that one if you can find it. It seems that figure has already grown in popularity and has become scarce already.  I've seen two in the wild and got one of them, the other was scooped up by another guy who was right behind me eyeing up the figures.

Cool - thanks for the answer.

I think it would be funny if right after he testifies before congress in the movie if he wipped out the suitcase with the Mark V suit (as seen on the figure), puts it on and goes "later suckers!" and proceeds to jet straight out of capital hill... hehe....

The lack of villains in these superhero lines makes no sense to me either. I remember as a kid I collected ninja turtles, and had wanted to get into the Batman Animated stuff as well. I wasn't interested in having 20 different versions of the turtles and batman, the figures I wanted most were the bad guys and other wierdos. They were generally much more interesting looking to me anyway, but maybe most kids these days don't think the same way? Either that or toy companies are very out of touch with what kids actually want, but who knows for sure. On that note, i'm happy to see the Iron Man line actually does have some non Iron Man characters coming, we've got Whiplash, Nick Fury and Black Widow from the movie line and comic Iron Monger, Titanium Man and Guardsman from the comic series, pretty weak as far as numbers go, but still not terrible compared to a lot of other hero lines I've seen over the years. Hopefully we'll see it continue a bit and expand the supporting characters and villains a bit more. A comic version of Whiplash would be cool, seeing as he is in the movie and all.

Snagged comic regular Iron Man and comic War Machine tonight. I only planned on getting War Machine but I saw Iron Man and realized he is about 10 times better than the Marvel Universe version, and at just under $7 why not? Also the foot flames are kickass.

And I agree on the Hero to Villain ratio. I never did care for the "Different Colored Suit with Random Exciting Accessory" variants of heroes, I was just happy with the "original/boring" version and wanted villains to fight.

All of the stores in town seem to have a pretty good supply of these now, the comic ones in particular.  I'm going back and forth on whether or not I want to pick up some of the concept ones.  With all the different armors Iron Man goes through, almost anything can fit in with a little hall of armor display or something.  I'm holding off for now, although I did pick up the Mark 1 (movie) armor today - and saw a bunch more comic War Machines.  The one figure I haven't seen very regularly is the movie War Machine.  So far, I've grabbed:

Movie
Mark I
Mark III
Mark VI
War Machine

Comic
First Appearance Iron Man
War Machine
Crimson Dynamo

Also, although not in this line, the Marvel Universe Iron Man (the newer, Extremis one) is a really nice figure if you're looking for a more modern comic Iron Man.  Very well done, and much better than the first one done last year I think.

I also picked up the Mark III and movie War Machine today, because I have no self restraint.  The biggest difference to me in the armors is the chest symbol (round vs. triangular).  The Mark IV-VI appear to be roughly the same body type, but with varying differences in paint jobs.

The Mark IV and Mark VI armors are almost exactly the same, except that the IV has the round arc reactor piece and the VI has the triangular arc reactor piece.  Though the Mark III and IV both have the round arc piece, they are different in many, subtle ways.
The Mark V armor is meant to be a lightweight, portable armor, and is noticeably different than all of the others.

Do it - grab the coupons and go to TRU this week, you will get a heck of a deal!  The only disappoinment you may experience is that there is only a minor difference between Mark IV and Mark VI.  The arc light of the Mkrk IV is a circle, the arc light of Mark VI is an upside down triangle - otherwise, unless I am mistaken, they are the exact same.

Don't miss out on Hypervelocity armor as well.  While I haven't really opened any of mine yet, I think that one might be up there with one of my favorites.

Oddly enough, the Hypervelocity armor is probably my least favorite of the Concept series.  I really like the look of the Deep Dive Armor, and the Power Assault is cool because it looks like a jacked up Iron Man.  After opening the Hypervelocity, I liked it ... but I wasn't blown away by it (relatively speaking).

Thanks to my wife paying for these (I don't get paid until tomorrow), I scored the following at my local Wal*Mart:

Mark IV
Mark V
Mark VI
Mark VI (light up)
Movie War Machine
Inferno Armor

I haven't yet opened them all up yet. The Mark V looks SICK! (in a good way of course)

For the moment I'm going to keep the Mark VI light up and the Inferno Armor carded. I wasn't completely thrilled with the paint apps on these two and that AFTER having gone through the whole on-peg inventory. I checked at least a half dozen of each figure before finally deciding on the ones to buy.

Woot, so now I think I'm currently cuaght up.

But I also know there is coming:
Comic Blue Iron  Monger
Movie Whiplash
Movie/Comic Black Widows
Nick Fury
Helmet off Iron Man
Helmet off War Machine

Seen here: http://www.popeater.com/2010/02/26/iron-man-2-action-figures-unveiled/

Picked up some non-Hasbro Iron Man 2 toys this weekend.

Megbloks has some sets out as well as "magnetic" Iron Men.

Megabloks is similar to LEGO.

I got a small set that had the Mark IV in it as well as this nifty carrying case that includes a base magnetic figure with 3 IM armor sets. Those were Mark II, Mark IV, and Mark V. Though the Mark IV was mislabeled as the Mark III. THe case itself if cool. Similar to the one if the movie that Stark carries that becomes the Mark V armor.

Good for you man. Yeah it's a little bit of a departure from what we know as Iron Man.

But the good thing is Iron Man is KNOWN for tinkering with his armor and making variants, so this isn't too far out of the realm.

About the Movie War Machine, I've only been able to find this at WM. And then only once. I saw 4-5 of them and should have picked up two. Man they went FAST. I want to get a second one to make both shoulder guns match (using the smaller ones).

I check how much I've spent on IM2 vs SW and man it's practically a tie. While Hasbro is losing money on me for SW, they are getting it right back for IM2 toys.

I wonder if this is their evil plan...LOL.

Seriously though we have seen in the last couple of years where Hasbro has opted to hold back SW in preference of other movie toy lines only to come back to SW once those other movie lines die down or fizzle out entirely.

I understand that thinking, but I'm not excited about it. I'd still much prefer new SW all year 'round.

Of all the figure I bought only one was a little warped. The lower left leg on my Mark III was warped towards the left side. I just took a small rubberband and lightly wrapped that around the lower legs. I waited a few days and now it looks just fine. Other than that there has been no warping.

On the whole these figures are great. I had a couple of paint issues with the Mark VI, Mark VI (lightup) and the Mark IV. Other than those the rest were stellar.

I've been very satisfied with the quality of this line so far. I only wish we would get more villains. Though I know Whiplash is on the way. I hope the Iron Drones are too.

I also finally saw the Iron Man figure with the light-up feature.  Kind of cool, but the head feels kind of flimsy and easily breakable.  Anyone that's opened it feel the same way or now that you've had them for a few days does it seem like a decent feature?   I would have thought they could have hidden the button in an armor panel instead, made it sturdier.

Saw these tonight as well. For those who are wondering, there are three versions of War Machine out there right now:

1 - Comic Version (still my favorite)
2 - Movie Version with Red Eyes
3 - Movie Version with Blue Eyes

I saw equal amounts of these at Target (2-3 of each), so not sure if any are more rare than the other.  I am finding that good paint jobs are relatively rare though.   :-\

The movie War Machine figures I saw were at K-Mart and both had red eyes.  I also saw the movie fig at Target but didn't pick it up and look so I don't know about the eyes.

I thought that the paint apps on the comic version of WM were excellent but there were some issues on the movie version.  One had some misses on the top of the helmet while the other had a screwy mouth/lower jaw paint app like the head turned in the mask when it was getting painted.  The white numbers and lettering on the movie version looked pretty crisp, though.

when these first hit at retail all I was seeing was red eyed movie War Machines at all three of the big box stores - so the blue was rarer from what I was seeing.  Then I went to Target earlier this week and they received new shipments and all they had were tons of the blue eyed version.

If you look at the back of the card you'll notice that it doesn't even have a particular color - the War Machine on the back of the card has blank eyes and chest.  It makes me wonder if we might see it both ways in the movie...

Anyway, this "variant" to me doesn't seem like much of an intended chase style variant where there is only a limited release of one version - I kind of equate it too the Rise of Cobra, Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes, with black or white Timber.  Both ended up being plentiful.

I used one of Hasbro's $5 coupons last night to pick up 3 Iron Man figures.  I got the movie Mark III IM and both comic and movie War Machine figures.

The Mark III is a really nice figure and after I was able to break the hip joints loose, it really turned into an excellent figure.  I don't know about the extra piece of armor, but otherwise it's nice.  Rather than that extra armor piece I would have liked to have seen an extra set of hands so you could pose him with his hands out behind him as stabalizers.  Still, nice figure.  I even like the 3-part card that these figs come with.

The comic War Machine is also quite excellent.  I like the way they handled the should cannons and the removable blast effects work well.  The articulation is also nicely done and I didn't have the hip problems with him that I did with the Mark III.

Movie War Machine, though, is my least favorite of the three and is mostly due to the articulation and shoulder cannon, specifically the missile launching one.  He has some issues with the hip balls only he didn't seem to sort out as well as IM did.  His chest articulation is also loose so he's a little floppy.  Otherwise, I like the arm/shoulder and added ankle movement on this vs IM.  He had doesn't move very well either, but well enough.  I'd again have liked replacable hands over the shooting missile.  The fig I bought has the blue chest, hand and eye paint vs the red I saw at KMart on Thursday.

The IM2 figures are on sale at Target this week.  Basic figures are $5.99.  Some of the others are on sale also but I didn't bother to detail all of them.

They also put up an end cap which was packed with more of all three sets, movie, concept and comic.  Everything we've already seen, though, from what I could tell.

I nabbed a blue eyes movie War Machine at my local KMart.

Also, is anyone else collecting the MegaBloks Iron Man 2 toys? I have the complete line so far for what is out, with exception to the two Techbots, which I'm not a fan of.

I've got five of the $5 off $20 purchase coupons printed and I keep almost pulling the trigger on some of this line, but I keep stopping myself at the point when it's time to take the figures to the register. I was thinking about picking up the Iron Man Mark I through Mark VI suits, movie War Machine and move Iron Monger to essentially have "everything" that was in the movies. Of course, I'll want to pick up Whiplash, Nick Fury and Black Widow if I start this too, so it's more than just picking up three or four figures.

So I have to ask - for those of you who have picked up a couple of the Iron Man figures or War Machine - are these figures nice or do they feel flimsy? Are they worth getting at a point like now when the figures are $11 for two at TRU and combined with the coupon they would be $17 for four?

Same here.  I have found some paint errors and avoided those at the store, but all the figs I've opened are crispy tight and well articulated.

I have a Gambit from last year's Wolverine line and don't like it because it's lacking some articulation and feels somewhat flimsy to me.  The three Iron Man figs I bought don't feel the same and have much more articulation.

I got the IM Mark III armor and both War Machine figures.  They're all pretty solid figures and look excellent.  And they were over a $1 cheaper than Gambit.  I don't think you'll be disappointed with them but I can't speak to the IM figs that I didn't actually buy.  I'm assuming the articulaton and solid feel work across the full line.

I bought these three at $6.99 from Target and used the coupon and felt like I got a good deal so getting 4 and, with the coupon, paying less per figure than I did is an even better.

Not trying to sound like a wet blanket here, but is anyone else thinking this line isn't moving too well?  I am not seeing many holes on the pegs at Wal-Mart, Target or TRU - and I'm also not seeing them being restocked to fill holes either... could it be that they didn't include enough variety of characters in the line?  I know that for myself being more of a casual collector of this sort of thing, I find it a lot more interesting when there's more characters than a dozen or so different suits of the same guy.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

When Target first stocked these they sold some, I think that was probably the local collectors.  Then they slowed a little until they added the end cap last week and had the $5.99 sale. Some moved, but nothing is hard to find.

Now, so far this week, I don't see much movement.  I'm guessing we won't see much move till the film opens and when we see the waves with the bad guys in them.  But if those don't hit close around the film opening, IM could be in for a problem.

I do think Hasbro came out with too many versions of IM this early.  I think they should have stuck to the film versions of figures in this format and maybe added the comic line where they could have not only IM and War Machine but the Crimson Dynamo and a couple other villains.  Having all the concept armor stuff also, kind of overkill.

I'll echo the earlier comments of the Iron Man figures being of pretty good quality.  I've seen some iffy paint apps here and there hanging on the pegs, so you'll want to pick them out, but otherwise I've gotten each of the "movie" figures so far and they are all very well done I think.

I'm not sure how much the line is moving right now either, although we'll know better once it is actually in theaters.  Some has definitely sold, the War Machines and Mark VI Iron Mans in particular here, but nothing is really hard to find locally either.  I remember for the first movie, the stuff sold like crazy once the movie was released, and Hasbro had a bit of a tough time keeping up it seemed.  That was a much more conservative approach for a movie line the last time around though, and they seemed to go all out this time - it will be interesting to see how it does.  Iron Man is one hero that it actually works a bit for him to have a dozen different outfits/versions, unlike Spidey, Batman, Superman, etc.

I do realize there's a ton of different outfits they can do, but I think it makes sense to sprinkle in some other characters too, or of Tony Stark in a business suit or whatever.   Looks to me like too many armored figures or the same guy right off the bat, but that's just my opinion.

Jeff made a good point about the IM line at one of our monthly meetings a couple weeks ago. His theory was that the reason for the armored figures being released first was that the factory needs time to ramp up to meet full production and work any paint apps issues out of the system first. Masking errors would go virtually unnoticed for the most part on these characters whereas wonky facial paint apps on human characters would surely draw ire from collectors as it happened with the initial waves of Indy figures.

As for the IM product not moving, surely when the movie is released we'll see a lot of turnover and possibly empty pegs depending on its reception.

Not sure I agree with that seeing that Hasbro has such variety of characters in the regular 3-3/4 Marvel line.  If they can control quality there, I don't see why that would be an issue with Iron Man figures.  They also had a lot of variety right out of the gate with the ROC GI JOE line as well... so, I'm not saying that the theory is wrong, but I don't know if I see a big company like Hasbro making character selections and investing so much tooling on armored masks rather than human faces based off a fear of poor face paint applications.

Basically, I think it's more to do with their marketing strategy being more like they did with the HULK figures - tons of different HULKS right off the bat and not much of anything else.  They clearly thought that's what the market would be wanting... personally I don't think it's as likely to succeed as a line with more variety of different characters would be, but maybe I'm wrong.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

Well, it certainly does make sense to get any kinks out with armored figures versus face paints.  You're a bigger customizer than most of us Chewie, but I am guessing a good face painting is much more difficult than just armored heads.  If not a quality concern, it may have at least been a timing consideration to get product through production faster.

I actually think these are selling pretty well around here given the amount of stock that has come in.  My local TRU has had to restock a few times and even Target seems to be selling some figs despite having 2,000 pegs dedicated to Iron Man right now.   ::)  The real test will be when the movie hits.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys
Post by: CHEWIE on March 31, 2010, 09:01 PM
It certainly is plausible, I just think the more likely case is that Hasbro felt there would be more of a demand for different versions of the main character in the initial launch.  That's all I'm getting at.

So I've gotten four more Iron Man figures, all from the movie line. I got Movie War Machine, Iron Monger, Iron Man Mk. 3, and Iron Man Mk. 1.

War Machine is cool, but I think the comic version is better. However, it's neat that the missile firing cannon attaches to the figure. It looks ridiculous, but it makes the toy fun. The figure is also very detailed in both the sculpt and paint apps.

Iron Man Mk. 3 is nothing special. A faithful representation of the movie costume. I like my MU figure better.

Iron Monger is freakin huge! He's probably my second favorite figure, right behind comic War Machine. He looks like he could demolish the Hulk. I really appreciate the well-hidden ball joint wrists.

Iron Man  Mk. 1 is also a solid figure. It's not huge, but it's very bulky. Great paint apps and a great sculpt. I only wish there were some Ten Rings terrorists for the figure to "fight".

Getting a few more figures has really gotten Iron Man fever to set in. I popped in the Blu-Ray for IM 1 this evening. I had forgotten how awesome that movie was. I'm really excited about the second one, and I cannot wait to see it in May. I don't think I'll buy any more toys until the IM 2 waves come out, but some of the current figures do look pretty cool.

MOVIE SERIES
-Mark 4 armor
-Mark 5 armor
-Mark 6 armor (lightup)
-Iron Monger
-War Machine

I'll probably pick up the Mk 1 & Mk 2 armor, too.  And I couldn't resist one of the concept armors.  So I picked up the Hyper Velocity armor, too.

Well, I saw something recently that seemed to back up what I was saying in this thread last week.  Just an isolated incident perhaps, but it definitely didn't surprise me one bit.  I pay very close attention to what people are looking at in the toy aisles these days because I find it interesting to see what is making kids tick with toys they want.

So on Monday I was at Target, and there was a family in the SW section, with a boy around 8 years old all excited about getting a couple figures... he ended up wandering down to the Iron Man 2 figures after his mother pointed them out... the boy was looking for a "bad guy" to fight Iron Man, and seemed confused by all the different Iron Man outfits.  The mother even commented something to the effect that all it was on the pegs was different versions of Iron Man and it was a bad selection... there were a LOT of different figures, but really it was just about nothing but different suits of the same guy.

They walked back over to the Star Wars section and the kid ended up getting a couple Star Wars figures - couldn't tell what they were but I am pretty sure it was an ARF Trooper along with a Zuckuss.  The kid even commented how Zuckuss was a bad guy, which I assume helped curb him back to Star Wars... either way Hasbro gets a sale here, but something tells me that Iron Man 2 figures could use those sales a bit more than Star Wars which has a much broader toy audience.

I'm happy you saw a kid in the action figure aisle that didn't buy Bakugan (or similar) but went for the action figures.  Still, that's one of the problems I think the IM line has right now also, no bad guys.  Well, there are two, at least, mixed in but they look basically like Iron Man and if you don't know the characters well enough you might not pick them out.

I saw a kid in the SW section the other day, on his own, must have been 14 maybe, going through the CW figures and he walked away with two of them (didn't see what figs).  So, kids are still buying that type of toy which I think is excellent.  It gives me hope that maybe some of them are still using their imagination to play.

Well, I'm pretty much in agreement on this one.  From a playability stand point it is silly that there are so many "good guys" vs. bad guys in these assortments.  They could have easily stuck with armored figures and still released more badies in the comic lineup.  There is an Iron Monger and Crimson Dynamo in the existing assortment, so they're not all Iron Men, but they could have thrown in Titanium Man, Iron Patriot, Kang, Dr. Doom, Ghost, Spymaster, or a host of other armored bad guys.  That may have helped in the situation you mentioned.  On the flip side, I'm not sure many kids would know about any of these bad guys.  Yes, they could have put in Whiplash in the first assortment, but he's still only one bad guy.  There's also...

SPOLIER WARNING

...apparently a host of different Iron-Drones in the movie that they could have released as bad guys, but I'm betting they don't want to spill the beans on these to the general public until the movie hits.

What I don't understand is the need for so many different Iron Man figures in the early waves.  Yes to Mark I thru Mark VI and the War Machine, but that should have been it.  Then they could have put in Whiplish and Iron Monger as bad guys and called it a day until the later movie waves hit.  Crimson Dynamo was unexpected surprise and I like him in here as well as an alternate baddie.  Instead, we have Hydro Armor, Fireman Armor, Hypervelocity Armor, Basic Red & Gold Armor, and on and on and on - it's just too much of the same guy and pretty pointless versions of the armor.  Heck, I think I even saw a Mark VI Armor and a different MArk VI Light Armor...was that really necessary?

Imagine a star wars release where your first few lineups include 1x Vader, 1x Boba Fett, 1x Han Solo, and 22 versions of Luke in different outfits.  Fail.

Well Iron Monger is a big "bad guy" and I'd consider War Machine as a bad guy (for kids and moms since he's grey/black) but that's just my opinion.  Ya - waaaaaay too many Ironman suits though.   :-\  I have a feeling these are all going to fly off the pegs once the movie hits - unlike what happened last year with ROC figures.

I'm happy you saw a kid in the action figure aisle that didn't buy Bakugan (or similar) but went for the action figures.

There are more figures on the way in the movie assortment.  Specifically, Whiplash, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Iron Man with removable mask & War Machine with removable mask.  These were shown at the Toy Fair presentation.  But I agree, there are more than enough versions of the Iron Man armor available at retail right now.  I think what adds to the perception about all of the different Iron Man armors at retail is that they've done three different assortments:

-Movie Series
-Concept Series
-Comic Series

IMHO, the concept series only has a couple of really strong pieces in the Hyper Velocity armor and the Deep Dive armor.  Everything else in the concept series seems like a variation of the Mk III armor.  But the concept series does blend well with the movie series.

The comic series has more potential.  But again, there really haven't been that many bad guys offered.  The only comic series villain I've seen so far is the Crimson Dynamo.  There's also supposed to be a comic series Iron Monger, Titanium Man and Guardsman on the way.  But the line definitely favors Iron Man and all of the specialty armors.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys
Post by: Brian on April 8, 2010, 11:44 AM
Yeah, aside from "keeping movie secrets" I'm never quite sure why they hold back the bad guys in these super hero movie assortments.  I mean, it has pretty much always happened I think.  I remember seeing a sea of Spideys with no sign of Goblin/Doc Ock/etc. for the first couple Spidey movies, until later on anyways (Spidey 2 might have been a worse offender of the two).  The same can largely be said for other movies like Fantastic Four, X-Men, Batman, Superman, Hulk, etc.  They always seem to load up the good guys and let the bad guys trickle into later assortments (and even then, often shortpacked).

I do agree though, I think some of these figures will really start selling once Iron Man 2 hits (Marks III, V, and VI in particular, along with War Machine).  I'm sure some of the other "concept" type stuff may sit, but we'll see - parents/grandparents may not know the difference if the kid just asks for "Iron Man".  I read an article yesterday saying that ticket presales are showing that breaking Dark Knight's opening weekend numbers may be possible - so IM 2 could be pretty big.

Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys
Post by: jedi_master_sal on April 8, 2010, 01:49 PM
I think these still could have all come out, just a much better mix.

Let's assume each wave is 6 figures.

The break down could have been:
2 Movie Iron Man figs
1 Concept fig
1 Bad guy
2 Comic fig (either both IM, or one of him and another a bad guy)

The "Hammer Drones" as seen in the trailer, could have been in the first wave. These would have (and hopefully will be) great army builders. If there are variants to the Hammer drones, then those could be put in the mix for Movie bad guys.

While I happen to be a huge IM fan, I do agree that there are too many different IM figs on the pegs and not enough enemies.

Later waves should feature other characters like Black Widow and Nick fury. I'm getting a few of Fury since I want to make customs of him. He'll make a great Jedi...  ::)

With the Toys R Us sale winding down at the end of this week and the fact that they set up the Iron Man 2 display in the front and brought out a bunch of cases, stocking the display with pretty much every Iron Man figure released so far, I decided it was time to pull the trigger and use a couple of those coupons.

For the first purchase, I picked up:

Iron Man Mark I
Iron Man Mark II
Iron Man Mark III
Iron Monger

For the second purchase, I picked up:

Iron Man Mark IV
Iron Man Mark V
Iron Man Mark VI
War Machine

With tax and after the coupon, both sets of four figures rang up for $18.52 - so basically, I picked up eight figures for $37 - not a bad deal if you ask me.

I've opened them all and they seem pretty nice. Not sure I'm going to go for the Iron Man and War Machine figures w/removable face masks/helmets, but I will probably pick up the Whiplash, Black Widow and Nick Fury movie figures just to finish up having all of the various armors and characters from the two movies represented. I'm sure those drones from the trailer will be released as well, may pick up one or two of that figure as well...

The one interesting thing was that Whiplash is pretty big in the TRU display - when I walked in, I was hoping that they might have gotten some cases with him in it, but unfortunately, no dice.

That, and the fact that Whiplash is such a royal screwup and loser in the comics who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, yet he's the main bad guy in the movie.

seriously awaiting other figurs fromt his line other than Iron Man.  At this point I have one of every figure available - far too many Iron Man figures - yet I am loving just about each of his other suits that are on the way and wil; be adding them to my armory.

But I really do want other characters - can't believe the portrayed main bad guy from this movie isn't/wasn't available in these first waves.

My stance on these is that for these Target light up base sets to have had the best potential for selling them out - they should have been available at the launch of the line.  I could be wrong, and they could sell very well when the movie drops - I just really doubt that will happen.

I already bought one of every figure for like $4.25 plus tax each from the TRU 2 for $11 plus using the coupons - I am not going to rebuy the figure for $13 just to get a light up base.

sad to say but clearance at 75% off - for $3.25 each is probably going to be the only thing that motivates me to possibly grab them.

I stopped at TRU over the weekend to see what they had, but things were pretty well ransacked.  There will still some Iron Men available, but anything else (War Machine, Iron Monger, etc.) were long gone.  I was thinking about taking advantage of the sale to get another Iron Monger (the one I had has two right hands) and maybe another version of Iron Man, but oh well.  I will say that sales seem to be picking up a little bit here locally, particularly at TRU with this sale.  We'll see how it goes beyond that.  I hope the later figures like Whiplash, Black Widow, and Nick Fury aren't impossible to find due to a sea of Iron Men :).

Anyone have any pics of the light up sets?

I had already planned on making a diorama of these on my own. So the lightup sets had better knock my socks off if I were to buy them at full price. Like others here, I already have one of every of the currently available figures. I highly doubt I'll rebuy them just for the bases. (Though a clearance sale buying binge isn't out of the question.)

I was in a Target store today and price checked the Hall of Armor pieces.  Sorry, but a light up base paired with a figure that I've already bought is NOT worth $12.99 to me.

Yes ... Borders also is selling a Marvel Select of the Mark IV Iron Man.

I noticed this weekend - although the pegs are far from empty in many of the stores, the Iron Man 2 sales are starting to pick up here locally.  In particular, I didn't see a single Mark V or (movie) War Machine at Wal-Mart, Target, or TRU this weekend.  There seems to be plenty of most everything else, although Iron Monger is a bit tougher to find as well.

I've noticed that the IM figures have had a steady, if not high, turnover at Target.  I don't go to my WM enough to notice.  I also didn't look to see what specific armor models were moving, or if War Machine was selling, just paid enough attention to see that the pegs have been emptying out.

I think this line has a chance to really pick up in the weeks right around the movie but one thing that I think will be important is for Hasbro to get the movie villains onto shelves to coincide with the film opening.

Yes indeed!

Whiplash and any Hammer Drones.

Also (and although not villains), I'd like to see Nick Fury and Black Widow (movie version, not the Universe versions-though I do need the blonde variant of this one too).

It's been a fun line to collect so far, but yes, it is severely lacking in villains.

I've noticed the same here, particularly recently.  Target has been moving through more IM stuff, and stocking it the most regularly of the "big three".  TRU here was nearly cleared out right after their 2 for $10.99 sale, although there is still some on the pegs.  WM seems to be the slowest mover, but some are still moving.  I agree about getting those villains/supporting characters out there soon.  I think they want to "strike while the iron is hot" right after the movie comes out, as it could really be a successful line for them then I think.

Target moved some items around either yesterday or Sunday and now has a larger display of IM2 figures on a shelf unit that had Bakugan on it up till now.  They put out the Hall of Armor figures.  They look pretty cool but I don't think I'm going to pay double for any of the figures to get the light-up base.

The display they had on the end of the end cap is sweet, though.  With the three armor systems, backdrop and case.  I guarantee people are going to be looking for that after this promo is over.

I am really confused about when new figures from this line will be available - this is what I am seeing so far over at ee.com:

Wave 4, due out in May, is going to consist of all (11) repacks and only one new figure Whiplash - only one of him!!!

Supposedly this will be the same thing in Wave 4 revision 3, also due out in may - except this time according to EE they will all have "Revised Packaging".  Anyone have any idea what that could mean?

Am I missing something or is this how it really is going to be in terms of never seeing the new product for this line?

I was looking into this as well.

Now that they have even released a good amount of the racetrack scene with the fight between Whiplash and Tony in the Mark V suitcase armor, I am even more shocked than I was before that the Whiplash figure based on this scene isn't out yet.

I was extremely surprised when I saw the case break-downs for these two Wave 4 cases - not to mention the fact that there is a Revision 1 and Revision 2 version of this case, that is nothing but re-packs.

Thankfully, my primary focus with this line was to score all six versions of the Iron Man armor, War Machine and Iron Monger - which I've done.

Minimally, I'd love to add a couple of those Hammer Drones (or whatever they're called) to my little mini-collection of Iron Man 2 stuff. I'd also love to get Whiplash, Nick Fury and Black Widow, but if I have to track them down at a rate of 1-per-case, I'm afraid that just ain't gonna happen - especially if next week I'm able to find the remaining Star Wars items I need before the re-launch in August, over the next few months, I'm just not gonna be wasting the gas to hit that many toy stores.

Did the Star Wars team loan the Iron Man 2 team the guy who works on case assortment pack-out ratios? Cause this 1-per-case nonsense with new figures is something that only that idiot would do.

Finally found myself a movie War Machine and Mark V today, great little figs. Word is the 6" figures are starting to hit as well.

I hear yas on the messed up case assortments and it's a bit worrisome since this is a line that could potentially last a while if handled correctly. I can certainly understand Hasbro wanting to keep Iron Man out there, but I really don't understand their (and apparently many other toy companies) aversion to having villains available at all times as well. I know Whiplash isn't the most exciting looking baddy from a visual perspective, but what kid wouldn't want a bad guy for his Iron Man to fight? I suppose maybe some kids are content with simply an army of Iron Men so they can have a little Tony Stark fashion show, but I would think most kids like to have the whole good vs evil dynamic in their play patterns, I know me and my siblings did as kids. I'm really hoping Hasbro didn't miss the boat on this front too because from what I've seen there's a number of different Hammer Drone designs that would make great additions to this line and provide some bad guys for the kiddies as well and I just have to wonder why they aren't available or even announced?

My biggest concern though is how similar a lot of the Iron Men on the pegs are, between the Mark III, IV and both versions of the VI there's the potential for a huge glut of red and gold armors on the pegs. I can't see too many parents or kids seeing the need for more than one of the gold armors, since the differences probably aren't that noticeable to a casual buyer. Hopefully this isn't the case, and I have hopes since the first Iron Man line sold so well despite all the crazy armor variants. Time will tell, really hope they make some of those hammer drones though, maybe even a Titanium Man in the smaller scale like the one in the 6" line just to flesh out the Rogues Gallery a bit.

I found the 6" Iron Man and War Machine today, I hear these are out in Canada and the US now if anyone is interested. They're quite nice if you can find one with good face paint apps. I'd like to see them do a Whiplash as well. I bet they could nail the likeness in this larger scale.

What really is going to suck imo, from the sounds of it, is trying to find the 1 per case Whiplash on the pegs amidst an ocean of Iron Man repack figures.  I guess knowing his collection number would help since they are displayed on the side of the package - but that really only helps if you have a side view to look at...

I agree on the Black Widow figure - I think her pics early on really do her no justice.  I do suppose that I may pick her up though from a completionist aspect - since I already have and intend to buy just about everything else from the line - in a really good sale (ie TRU's 2fer sales)

The 4" Iron Man and War Machine figures have been pretty cool so far.  But when it comes time to find figures like Nick Fury, Whiplash and Black Widow?  I've got serious reservations.  The Marvel Universe figures have been a little hit or miss in terms of the likenesses.  At that scale I have little faith in Hasbro being able to translate anything close to Scarlett Johansson's hotness.

BBTS hasposted a wave 4 case with the following...

1x Air Assault Drone
2x Iron Man Ultimate Armor
1x Mark IV Iron Man
1x Mark V Suitcase Iron Man
1x Mark VI Iron Man
2x Mark VI Iron Man Version 02
1x Stealth Iron Man
1x War Machine
1x Weapon Assault Drone
1x Whiplash

Once again way too many repack Iron Men, but I see a couple drones on that list. Whoo!

Can we discuss the movie yet? Or is it still off limits?

With the final battle of the movie, I am extremely perplexed as to why at least one of the Hammer drones hasn't seen release yet - there were four different ones - one for each branch of our armed services, it seems like a no-brainer to me that they should have included one of these types of drones in the initial waves.

Also, with sites like Yahoo Movies getting almost the entire Mark V suitcase-suit scene (it only lasts another minute at most after the clip they posted ends) why wasn't the race-track Whiplash figure included in the the initial waves as well?

Sure, you want to hold off of revealing Black Widow (she doesn't see action in her outfit until the end of the movie) and you want to hold off on Whiplash's second fight with Iron Man, I'm all for that since it would/could be a major spoiler to the movie.

Lastly, where are the photos of the Hammer Drones that have been announced?

Sorry if I seem a little impatient with this, I'm just starting to get worried that this line is going to die a quick death and the glut of initial product is going to prevent from the later waves from being easily available.

Very good questions, and I wonder about them myself. It seems to me like Hasbro is taking the usual "villains don't sell" mentality with this line or something, and trying to get as many different Iron Men out there as possible. I realize he's the main character but he's not the only one. Most of my local stores are flooded with Iron Man variants, those same variants they keep repacking in every subsequent case. I had hoped the stuff would start moving after the movie came out but they seem to be going slowly. I was in the store the other day and saw a family there complaining about how there was nothing but Iron Men on the pegs and no bad guys. Their kid wanted someone for Iron Man to fight.

I think the first wave was solid for the most part. The marks 1-3 and Iron Monger, and a few of the concept armors, sort of a sneak preview wave. Good, makes sense. Then wave 2 came along, Mark 4, 5, War Machine and 2 different Mark 6's, and a ton of repack figures. Whiplash should have been in this wave as well, and maybe a drone as well. Did we really need 3 different red armored Iron Man that are barely any different in the same wave? And it might be more if they repacked the Mark 3 in this wave too, I'm not sure if they did or not. Having all those similar armors in the same wave is just excessive.

For the record though I'm rather happy with the comic series line.

I can't wait to finally get the WHiplash, if for nothing else but for iron man and war machine to fight with. Now WM is a very cool figure. But in this 4" size I hope we eventually get a regular Tony Stark, Pepper Pots, Rhodey, Justin Hammer, and Agent Colson. I know Blackwidow and Nick "I'm Mace F'n Windu" Fury will come out soon. And definitely want a bunch was hammer drones.

I kind of like the Holographic armor but I just have a weakness for clear figures for some reason.  The Recon War Machine also looks cool in that paint job.

I haven't even bothered to look at the pegs in Target, they've been packed since early last week after a flurry of buying over the opening weekend of the film.  I don't have much thought that any other waves will hit my store before these hit the clearance aisle.

Walmart?  I don't know.  My local store doesn't have a huge amount of stock but they're going through a big construction project to turn the store into a supercenter/impact store.  They haven't been getting new stock of anything much this year so far.

I am starting to feel the same way as E posted above.  Target is packed with the initial stuff still.  WM is pretty barren due to the same store modifications E posted about, and TRU, despite their 3-4 2 for $11 sales they were having are still jam packed with the initial stuff.

I haven't been to TRU snce Friday, hopefully they sold a bunch since then because today is truck day here though I am kinda doubting it.  The pegs towards the back of the store where IM toys were planno'd were packed and the egs at the front of the store were pretty empty until they decided to empty out the floor shipper to get it off the sales floor and pack the pegs.

Thanks for the link to the new figs Greedo, sounds interesting though I cannot see them at work - Movie Style Hulkbuster?  Nice....   :)

edit:

Just saw the pics on marvelousnews.com  I dunno about these...  They most certainly could be real - but the Nick Fury he is selling has me kinda skeptical.  The head on him looks custom - his mouth doesn't look "open" like the pics at CTR show off.  Pretty meh on the "realistic style hulkbuster" Iron Monger painted red/yellow with hulkbuster head.  Meh on the camo Ware Machine since I already have the one from the K-Mart pack.  The holographic see through blue one is kinda interesting to me though

I actually was just in WM tonight and they had some room on the pegs for IM figures but nothing new was out yet in the 3.75" line.  I did find the Mark VI and War Machine 6" exclusives though.

Both of those are really nice with alternate hands and weapons (for War Machine) and they looked like they had plenty of articulation.  I was a little surprised by the $13 price though.   I passed for now but I may pick up the WM later on.

Got my son for his birthday last weekend the Mark2, Mark 6, Hypervelocity, Inferno Mission and Crimson Dynamo. All very cool figs, to say the least. He likes them all. Already had gotten him the War Machine fig last month. Only issue to watch for is the soft plastic used in the knee joints, some are a little mis-formed causing the legs to appear slightly twisted or bowed. All have great arm, leg, torso articulation but the heads are very tight and some don't move as good as others.

Well, now that we're a little over a month out from the movie (and over 2 from the launch of the line), how do you think this line is doing at retail?  I have to admit, I don't look at it really closely right now, as I've been caught up for the time being I think for a little bit.  I'm not sure if shipments are still filling the pegs or not, but if not, stuff has started to sit quite a bit now.  I do think that the movie War Machine is a little bit tougher to come by, but I think most to all of the Iron Men are in pretty decent supply.  I'm not sure what's next in the "comic" side of this line next, but otherwise I think I'm caught up with what I want until some more of the movie figures show up (Black Widow, Nick Fury, Whiplash, and the drones).  I don't know when that is supposed to happen either, and with the way retail looks around here right now, I'm not sure if they'd get stocked anyways with the pegs being pretty full.

That's not to say nothing is selling.  I do see people/kids looking at IM stuff a lot, and it does seem to sell somewhat frequently.  The 6" WM exclusives in particular flew here (first War Machine, but Iron Man has dried up as well), and some of the role play stuff seems to do well too.  I don't know if the line is struggling or not (as many movie lines do), or if tastes have already moved on (which happens particularly in kids).  I do think it is a pretty well made line though, but - as we've already discussed - a little Iron Man heavy.  Having some of the supporting characters and villains out earlier might have helped some, as is often the case with these movie lines.

Pegs around here are fairly full. Some room, but doubtful we're going to get the next wave anytime soon.

But I'm hoping so. I really want Scarlett...er Black Widow, Whiplash, Fury, and of course those drones!

It seems that few figs are still moving here but I haven't paid attention to anything other than the action figures.  I saw some of the newest figs at a TRU about a month ago but nothing in town locally, and definitely no movie villains.  We only have initial release stuff here, and when there are holes, more of it gets stocked.

I think the action figures are nice but I was comparing Mark III and IV armor figs the other day and the paint changes aren't enough to warrant a new purchase.  I think Hasbro ****** up and released too many Iron Man figs.  They could have been fine with one comic wave and one film wave, putting out Mark I - III and the Iron Monger figures in that wave.  Then come out with a wave of IM2 movie figs for the film release with the MIV - VI (or whatever) armors, Whiplash, Nick Fury and Black Widow.  There may be some sales, but the line is dying fast, and it's Hasbro's fault due to the wave mix.

I think the role play stuff is really cool.  If I was a kid I'd want the helmet, the chest piece, glove...the works.  All the other misc stuff?  I don't care much for it, but the race car does look nice.  If you want a 1:18 formula 1 race car, there you go.

Agreed. I hope to get those non-IM movie figures, but at the rate they are selling here, it doesn't look good.

They should have had at least one Hammer drone in each wave. There were 4 different ones afterall, so that easily could have been milked.

I hope to get those multipacks, but I really don't need the same IM many times over, nor Nick Furys. The Furys I might be able to trade/sell, but the IM I'll have to take a hit on likely.

I'd rather have had a 4-pack of Hammer drones. Or even 3 drones and a Shield field agent. A real army building set.

The movie stuff is overflowing pretty much everywhere up here. They sold well initially, but they've restocked a few times since then and they're just rotting on the pegs now. The only ones that are in short/no supply are the Mark I, War Machine and Iron Monger. The Iron Men are just everywhere though. The 6 inchers sold pretty well though. On another note, the comic series seems to be doing quite well in my area, I don't see too many of those, and really, I do think it's the better sub line. At least those Iron Men variants are fairly different from one another, plus there's villains. Sadly, I'll probably never see another wave of these things, which is a shame since I was really looking forward to the supporting characters. Ah well, I guess that's what e-tailers are for.

Found the Hulkbuster wave at Wal-Mart a few hours ago. Passed on everything for now because I knew I'd go crazy and pick up the whole wave, and I don't want to spend that kind of cash right now. There are two more Iron Men in this wave, one being the Pointy Mask Iron Man and the other being the Mark VIII, which I almost picked up as well. Would be nice to get some more villains or something but I guess Hasbro thinks we can't have enough Iron Man figs.

Of course Nick Fury and Scarlett...Natasha.

The availability of everything is just such a disaster right now.  I've almost completely written off retail as a means of reliably acquiring figures, opting instead for ordering cases from various online dealers.

I may pay a buck more a figure here and there, but my gosh I must be saving gallons and gallons of gasoline.  My daily toy runs have turned into barely weekly.  Ultimately, this has actually saved me money.

That's how I do it too. I used to go 5 days a week. During periods where I know it's going to be slow, I check maybe twice a week, unless I happen to be in the area.

It's not just gas, but time and frustration saved as well.

I've pretty much given up on this line. At this point, I'm not even sure I want to pick up that TRU battlepack that's gonna have two Hammer Drones, IM and Fury.

If I can snag a Whiplash at some point, great, if not, no big deal, I no longer care.

I think I would probably rather have the final-battle armored Whiplash figure instead of the race-track version anyway which would allow me to keep my Iron Man collection limited to simply "armored" characters - and there hasn't even been a whiff of that figure coming down the pike so I'm happy with my IM Mark 1 - Mark 6, War Machine and Iron Monger figs.

For me also, the issue is that the Iron Man window for me is rapidly closing - once the Star Wars stuff starts hitting and if I have to make a choice between picking up a new Vintage/Clone Wars item and picking up a Hammer Drone, the Star Wars item will win every time.

Hasbro really botched this line with so many Iron Man figures.

Hasbro really botched this line with so many Iron Man figures.

And you can substitute "Iron Man" with "Indiana Jones," "Star Wars," "Rise of Cobra," "Wolverine" and possibly even whatever the Transformer movie line was called last year.  When you have that track record over the past 2.5 years maybe you'd figure something out.

But, probably not.  I'm interested in seeing how the SW launch this fall is going to go.  Looking at the case packs for the first 2 Vintage waves, it seems to be more of the same for Hasbro.  And that's just one line, I'm not even talking about the CW line which has potential to be worse.

Well, based on case assortments for the Clone Wars line, it already looks like it is - out of the first 20 or so figures there are only four new ones. All of the others are repacks from the 2008-2010 waves.

For me, it's not a big deal since I want to get the game cards and stands for these figures too, so call me a sucker, but I am going to be picking up at least two of every Clone Wars figure - but that's me - the lack of actual NEW figures is going to mean a glut of the first two waves of the "Shadows of the Darkside" is going to be a serious problem.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about the later waves showing up as well.  Heck, I don't think online vendors even have them for preorder yet that I've seen.  I'm not sure when they are scheduled - maybe they are holding them off - but we'd have to have quite a bit sell here locally to make room for them as well.  I don't check the pegs closely anymore, so I'm not sure if they are selling/restocking or just sitting, but I tend to think they are sitting now.  I was looking forward to grabbing a Nick Fury, Whiplash, Black Widow, and some Hammer Drones, but we'll have to see.  The line seems to be being forgotten a bit now (much like the movie to some extent), which I guess is a sign of the way kids and even society is these days with movies, tv, toys, games, etc.

I was talking to a friend about this TRU Battle Pack, and was thinking how Hasbro should use that opportunity to do an end-line ditch for the IM2 movie figures instead of even producing any more single carded movie-based figures.  Have one BP be the Fury, IM (with the RDJ head/face as a swappable part), and two drones; have a second BP include Black Widow, War Machine (with the Don Cheadle head/face), and the two other drones.  That still leaves Whiplash out in the cold, but they could still do an exclusive single carded figure for TRU so it would at least be out there, or even have it as a FWP item if you buy both Battle Packs.

At this point, if anything else from the IM2 movie toys shows up at retail, I'll be shocked.  I'd go as far as to say that this line is an even bigger disaster than Indy, since there were 6 basic Indy figures across 4 waves of figures, and there have been...at least 18 Iron Men across the same number of waves?
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

I've only seen the Hulkbuster wave or remnants of it a couple of times.  And most of the time it's only been the Iron Man with the horned mask.  When I actually found some of the other figures in that wave I was shocked!  But the Guardsman looks kind of lame, and so does that wave's Iron Man.  The Hulkbuster armor was cool though.  And so was Titanium Man.  But those were the only figures in that whole wave that had any appeal for me.

As for Whiplash?  Still haven't seen that.  But then I hear that most people who are finding the new Iron Man figures are finding them at WalMart, and I don't go there all that often.

Has anybody else seen a lot of theft with this line? Maybe it's just the store near me (multiple figs from multiple lines have been tampered with) but there are many Iron Man figs that have had the figures ripped from the packaging... and the staff hangs the tattered card on the pegs anyway.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

I have not seen any theft on Iron Man, which I thought was kind of suprising compared to some of the other lines out there.

I found the Hulkbuster wave on my way back from Wisconsin yesterday.  Only picked up two basic Iron Men (horned faceplate and comicy Red/Gold) as well as the Hulk Buster armor.  That figure is sweet!  I am not collecting about half the line and couldn't bring myself to buy the Guardian, Titanium Man or others.  No sign of Whiplash, but I'm not buying him anyway.

Well - the new Star Wars has hit and that means I'm back on the hunt for those, so that means that this line is now dead to me.

If by some miracle, I stumble across the drones or they release Whiplash in his armor from the end of the movie AND I'm able to find it again, but just walking by the IM2 pegs, then I might pick them up.

Otherwise, I'm done.

I've seen some theft of this line.  But it hasn't been to any extreme level that's surpassed theft of figures or accessories from other lines.  I probably saw a good deal more theft when Toy Biz was doing the build-a-figure program with Marvel Legends.

will probably be getting an answer on that this weekend - but ultimately it will be smoke blown up the ass because we all know what Hasbro will say and what is actually going to happen with the line.

on another note, in the CTR interview Hasbro said they are going to be using the Guardsman mold to make another villain - could that be used for Mandarin?  I don't know too much about his character...

Some really cool looking stuff coming from this line by the looks of it. Theres a new 3 pack with racetrack Whiplash (thank god because no one is ever going to find the regular release.) a drone and a repainted Mark V, a basic Whiplash armor, comic series Whiplash and Mandarin. Just a shame that the glut of wave 1 stuff will probably prevent us from seeing any of this stuff. In any case, I really hope these get out there in decent numbers.

I don't care how/when the line ends as long as those gift sets get released. I'm glad that Hasbro is making some effort to make the other characters (Fury, Whiplash, Black Widow) easier to get. Such a shame too as this line is awesome. Just way too many Iron Man figures. Mind you I love to get them as I'm an IM fan, but for the masses, it's too much. They want movie figures and more villains for IM to fight.

I SO want to get those drones in all 4 flavors. Just want 8 of each as that is how many were in the movie.

Crossing fingers X

It would be great if they did something like what they're doing with that Mandalorians battlepack - four Hammer drones, one of each variety, all in one battlepack. I'd be happy with picking up something like that, and I think a lot of kids would as well.

Sometimes I don't understand the mentality of "we want a single purchase to be a play pattern" - why would you care about this, there are TONS of Mark VI Iron Man figs on the pegs, if you want your kid of have a "play pattern" what better way than to pick up a $7 figure and a $23 battlepack that gets you one good guy and four bad guys for him to fight - all for $30. It's not like there is a shortage of Iron Man figs on the pegs.

Yeah, it sounds like stuff is getting pushed out to 2011 for the "relaunch" of the line, so I'm wondering if we'll see anything new in the way of basic figures the rest of the year?  It looks like the majority of what I'd like to get from the movie line (Black Widow, Whiplash, Fury, Drones) is coming in the way of various multipacks anyways.

If they're smart, they'll pack in the Hammer Drones for 2011 wave 1 at least 2 per case. If they're smart. Not holding my breath though. The battle pack idea is equally good, but I really can't see them doing that. They'd have to throw another IM in there somewhere to justify it.

As far as I know, they're just in the film.

I missed the chance to order the drones at HTS, but I did receive that Fury box set via TRU.com this week, and the two included in there are really pretty spiffy.  Fury and the repainted Iron Man aren't bad either.  It really is a shame this line was sort of mishandled, because it does have a lot of potential with the non-IM characters.

Mishandling aside, I think by the time it's finished we'll have a nice little set of movie figures (not counted the concept and comic stuff) which is a pretty good little run for a movie line full of main character variants. It's definitely one of my favorite movie lines of this year.

Ugh. Found Hulkbuster at WM but he rang up at $8.00, which is consistant with rumors of them raising prices on everything. But still that price is painful.

I'm this close to returning it.

Weapon Assault Drone

Comic Series:
Classic Iron Monger
Advanced Armor Iron Man
Arctic Armor Iron Man
Silver Centurion Iron Man

Holographic iron man, movie version hulkbuster based off the iron monger buck, and another war machine.

Here's a pic I found on the interwebs:

The War Machine doesn't appear to be much different than the previous one in the 3-pack. Only part to the Hulkbuster IM that I like is the helmet. I am digging the Holo IM though.

I'll try to track this set down. I looked at what it's going for on the "bay" and it's ridiculous what people are asking for it and what people are paying for it. I can still find the first 3-pack on shelves.

Hopefully the set will go on sale just as the last one did.  Also don't forget about the possibilty of using a $5 off coupon on it should you want it.

On a side note - HTS is almost wiped out now of IM2 stuff...  I wonder if they purged stuff because new stuff coming soon perhaps?

I got the Mark VI and War Machine. I think there was supposed to be a Mark IV as well.

I tried to use one, but got shot down due to the one cent.  Lame.  So, I bought two and used the coupon.  A friend of mine wanted the set, so it worked out.  Yeah, we're splitting the savings, but some savings is better than none at all.

Wow, I didn't know this was an exclusive either. Well, if anyone doesn't want their sea drones, let me know. I'll buy them from you.

I'm trying to get 8 of each type drone. (That's what was seen in the movie.)

If I find extra sets, I'll be happy to sell the extra Whiplashes. I don't have that one yet either, so the first one will be mine, but any after will be up for sale.

Still have yet to find the 2 single carded drones at any stores, and I check everyday a few times a day on HTS for them. They've always been out of stock when I looked for them.

I scored 7 of the Armored Assault sets today at my local Target. I had already won one Sea Assault drone, so this makes the 8 total I wanted.

Now, this also leaves me with 5 extra Whiplash (I'm keeping 2 of them), and 6 extra Iron Man Mark 5's.

So I'm putting them up for sale.

$7 a piece for the Whiplash
$6 a piece for the IM Mk 5
$12 a pair if you get one each of Whiplash and IM Mk 5

Shipping will be approx $2 for one fig (in a padded envelope). Of course combined shipping and it's only what I pay for shipping. You won't get gouged here.

I'm going to put up auctions on eBay for these case I just don't need the extras. So please, come get them from me first. I'd rather not use eBay. And I won't be scalping these there either. What I quoted for the price here is what they will be on eBay also. Like I said, I'm just looking to get what I paid for them.

Do the multi-packs come with stands for the figures like the individually carded figures do?

I've seen both the TRU 4-pack and the Target 3-pack, but I'm really only interested in displaying the armored characters and for consistency, I'd want the drones to have stands just like my six Iron Men, War Machine and Iron Monger....

I still contend that this line is "dead to me" - but both packs are too good to pass up. I wish the Target set had a second Sea Drone just like the TRU set has two Ground Weapons Drones (or whatever they're called).
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

Target finally stocked their end cap and the 3-packs were out as were some of the newer single carded figures.  That Hulk Buster Iron Man is huge, and really nice looking, but I've pretty much lost all interest in these figures.

The Drones look nice, though.  I wish I could buy a 4-pack of them, one of each military branch or however they differentiated them in the film.  I'd buy a couple 4-packs to build an army. They'd work for a few different things.

Edit -> Okay, I just checked out that TRU 4-pack on their website and that's a fantastic set!  That Nick Fury is excellent (based on a Joe mold) and it comes with two Hammer Drones and an IM version I don't have yet.  I may have to look that one up next time I'm in TRU.

I spotted the TRU 4-pack yesterday and almost bought it.  The Drones and Fury look great, but I saved my cash for now.

They did have a 4-way aisle display out with newer figures in it, included the first Whiplash figure I'd seen on a single card.  The Target 3-pack version looked better IMO.

Speaking of Target, that pack is on sale for $14.99 this week and the Hall of Armor figs are $9.99.

Here's a question; I had the Hulkbuster Armor version of IM in my hands the other day and was thinking about buying it.  The package said that there's a $5 coupon for IM stuff in the package.  Anyone have on of the coupons?  Is it good on only carded figs, all Hasbro IM stuff or some other type of restriction?

Ivan 'Whiplash' Vanko, A ground assualt and air assult drone, some repainted mark 4 with more silver as 'ultimate armor' and a blue 'fusion armor' figure. Just got home from Walmart with a comic Iron Monger, and the 2 drones from that wave.  They had put out 6 cases by my count.  My Walmarts have been really good in the past month.  With everything really IM2, Star Wars Vintage, Marvel Universe.

I was going to army build the drones, but honestly they don't look too great IMO.  So I will just add 1 of each of these "Marine" and "Air Force" drones to the "Navy" from the Target set and the "Army" from the TRU set, and call it a day with the drones methinks.

I thought I had gotten lucky and found the cases with the drones in it - there was comic Iron Monger and Silver Centurion, but all of the other figures were from previous waves - I opened the two cases I saw on a pallet and both were the same story, so either someone had already gotten to the cases, removed the drones and packed them back up or my store got a mix of these that didn't include the Hammer Droids.  >:(

I hear ya.

I need both the Weapons Assault and Air Assault drones.

Those should have been in the first wave instead of all the different Iron Men. I'm a huge IM fan, but even I recognize the need for villain figures.

I think it would have been awesome to get a four pack of drones, one of each kind. That would have made it immensely easy for us to find/buy, build up our army of drones. I'm hoping to get 8 of each and have the Land Assault and Sea Assault ones.

I can only hope Hasbro will see the outcry for these drones and make more of them.

BBTS has the newest (final?) comic wave in stock - the one with Mandarin, and also the newest movie series figures - the one with all of the concept colors.

I have read some reports that WM lowered their prices to $5 for this line - so perhaps that will clean off the pegs in an effort to make room for this new stuff.  Thats what I am hoping for at least.

Went to another wally and found more new figs, Hulkbuster, Enhanced Armor based on the Mark 6 then a blue-ish gray version called Arctic Armor.  Then the Silver Centurion and comic version of Iron Monger. It's intersting that the numbering on the figs lists Whiplash, and the two drones as 14, 15, 16 but they just now are shipping.
At least iron man and war machine now have villians to fight.

I opened some of my newer figures yesterday and there were a couple of surprises I thought I would share.

The Marine Drone - No real surprises here other than he comes with 2 heads.  I think it is supposed to be like blast shield up/blast shield down differences.  I bought 2 of these drones.  1 had both heads as it should the other had 2 of the blast shield up heads and only one of them had the blue paint on it - not a variant or anything, just a factory error.  I have one sporting both of the whips and the other sporting the saws.  I really like how easy it is to change the weapons on these guys along with how well they stay in place.

The Air Force Drone - I grabbed two of these as well.  I am not too keen on how the elbow articulation works on these guys due to the mold.  There was a suprise in the mold I didn't know about til I opened it - these guys have a ball joint in their wrists.  I will warn you though on both of the Drones I got these joints were froze (painted) and I had to wiggle them a bit to free them up.  1 of the wrists wouldn't come free without it feeling like I was going to break it - gonna have to try a hot water bath or something.  Also, on both of the drones I got their legs bowed outward from the knee down so they have an odd stance - will have to try somethings to correct that.  And on a final note, I really like how these guys look with the backpack/jet pack on.  Pretty snazy.  edit: I may be wrong on this, but from pics I saw at marvelousnews at NYCC it looks like the new modern war machine may also be featuring this same wrist articulation.  time will tell on that one.

Inferno Armor Iron Man - he has been out since the line started but I just got him.  His shoulder pads pop of wayyyy to easy - though he doesn't look terrible without them.  It was also kinda tough to find one of these guys with decent paint apps - mine is pretty close.

Finally Advanced Armor and Arctic Armor Iron Man - both of these overall use the same sculpt.  Iirc the only differeces in sculpting were on the shoulder pads and opened/fisted hands ie one has right hand open left hand fisted, the other version has hands sculpted the oppopsite ways.  The shoulder pads on these guys pop off pretty easy here too, the Advanced Armor having more issues than the Arctic Armor.  Another thing that I noticed in this sculpt different than the rest of the Iron Man figures from this line is the elbow joint seems a lot thinner/smaller/flimsier - but I don't think I will have any issues in the end.

On a final note - the biggest surprise in the above to figures was that they both sport the new neck articulation that is being used in the MU line in figures like SDCC Spiderman, SDCC Capt America, Colossus, Ghost Rider, etc.  Since Iron Man flies, this is a HUGE ++++ imo - every Iron Man from here out should have this form of neck articulation.

I won a slew of Drones, both Weapons and Air from eBay. I wanted to be able to buy these at a store, but either they're bought up before I get to them, or some stores just aren't moving product, so they won't put out new stuff...

No matter, with the amount of drones I won, I'll only need one more Air Drone and I'll be done with them.

EE has a new wave  (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HMV93763G) posted and I dont recall some of them being discussed/shown yet:

1x Light Up War Machine
1x IM Mark V(new version)
2x Quick Change Iron Man (Mark IV to VI)
1x Hammer Drone(concept)
1x Hypervelocity Redeco
1x Deep Dive Armor
1x Shield Breaker Armor
1x War Machine Mark II
1x Inferno Armor IM
1x Space Armor IM
1x Subterannean Armor

I keep looking over and over this set and I really think most of them are yet to be seen...
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys
Post by: jedi_master_sal on November 11, 2010, 03:23 PM
Hmm, okay of these I'd say the following are new/redeco/old

1x Light Up War Machine NEW
1x IM Mark V(new version) NEW...
2x Quick Change Iron Man (Mark IV to VI) NEW
1x Hammer Drone(concept) NEW
1x Hypervelocity Redeco REDECO...
1x Deep Dive Armor OLD
1x Shield Breaker Armor NEW
1x War Machine Mark II NEW
1x Inferno Armor IM OLD
1x Space Armor IM OLD
1x Subterannean Armor NEW-ish (if it's the same paint job as the larger IM1 figs, the while the figure is new, the deco isn't)

Still, I'm a HUGE Iron Man fan and will be looking for these! (Case in point my XBOX 360 is "RM Iron Man"- RM being the abbreviation for the gaming group I belong to)
Another example is my Halo Reach Armor that I think resembles Iron Man:

I STILL need one more Air Assault drone to complete my set of drones.

I missed the Door Buster part of the sale, but still took advantage of the Kohl's 20% sale on action figures and a $10 gift card that came in the mail to pick up Air and Weapon Assault Drones today.  Total after sale and gift card was only $8.19 for two figures so I'm psyched.

First time I've even seen them so it was a good pickup.  They had Clone Wars and Legends SW figs but no Vintage, which I went in looking for.  But I'm happy to have found these two.

They also both had the $5 coupons so I may use them to pick up the Target 3-pack and TRU pack with Nick Fury.

I got one of each drone at K-Mart today during the BOGO.  Not certain why I did since I already have 2 of each and I don't army build.  I think the reason I did was because the Marine seems like it had way more weathering/damage look than my other two did.  that is just going off memory.

I used one of the $5 coupons this weekend and finally picked up the TRU 4-pack with Fury and the two Ground Assault Droids.  Nothing particularly outstanding about the Droids, but I'm glad to have them.  Glad to have Fury, though, it's an excellent figure and the main reason I wanted the pack.  The Iron Man figure is okay, but I really didn't need/want him.

Now I just need the Target 3-pack to finish the Assault Droids and finally add a Vanko to my collection.

I think the only Iron Man figures I have any interest in are the Hulk Buster outfit just because it's cool looking, and the Holographic Iron Man from the KMart 3-pack.  Mostly beacuse I have a weakness for clear/clear-ish figures for some reason.  The Recon War Machine in that set doesn't look too bad either.

yeah, I kinda like that 3 pack from K-mart, but I dislike the price tag.  With the amount of Iron Man figures I now have in my collection I am in no hurry to grab those if I do grab them at all.

Well, I got my shipment of Iron Men in last night.

here's a quick review of each:

Here's what I bought:

Iron Man 2 Concept Series: Iron Man Hot Zone Armor- This one is Red and White, instead of the traditional Red and Gold. It comes with this neat set of wings. When you attach then and open them up, IM looks somewhat insectoid, but really good at it. If you like variance in IM armor like I do, then I recommend picking this up. Otherwise, you could pass on it.

Iron Man Mark V Stealth Armor- As I stated before, I really like this one due to the un-Iron Man like Black and Gold colors. Being from Pittsburgh, I'll just think of this armor as Pittsburgh sports related. On the cardback it says something about this armor being for publicity events and just because Tony Stark thinks it looks cool. But it's still armed in csase anyone thinks to strike at him.

Iron Man 2 Concept Series: Iron Man Stark Racing Armor- I wasn't sure if I would like this one or not. Not really being a fan of corporate sponsership on things. However, this one really looks great, IMHO. It's certainly a different look/color for IM and I think it works.

Iron Man 2 Concept Series: War Machine Munitions Armor- This one I was disappointed in. Not for the paint scheme of the armor, but rather the ridiculously HUGE shoulder cannons. I'd have preferred something a bit more realistic in size in comparison. The figure itself looks great and if you hide the shoulder nubs that fit the cannons on them, then it looks great.

Iron Man 2 Concept Series: Armor Tech Iron Man Exosphere Mission- This is the deluxe set. IM is Blue and White here. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this paint scheme, but again it seems to work well for the figure.

All in all as a IM collector I'm very pleased with these new repaints.  If you're a casual fan, you can probably pass on most of these.

Hope this helps.

He loves Cobra troopers though, Stormtroopers and Decepticons.  I guess he's a naughty boy.

The only thing that will help is if stores change things up.  For example, if Target assigns the new line different DPCIs, they can clearance out the existing figures and clear peg space for the new line.

While it is not definite, I am pretty sure that is what will happen.  Clearancing of the old to make way for the new "Armored Avenger" line.  I am just hoping Hasbro is repackaging the Mandarin wave to be included in the new line.

Was in Kohls today with my wife with the real intent to look at some bedding for a room we just finished and are setting up as a guest room. I took a side-trip over to the toys section and I was shocked to find several Ground and Air Assault Drones amongst the selection and to make it even better, they were priced at $4.39 each.

So I grabbed three Air Assault Drones to bring my total up to four and I grabbed the lone Ground Assault Drone to bring my total up to two.

In my area, these two drones have been extremely hard to come by so to find so many all in one place was kinda exciting.

It seems like my local WM got a case of this wave in Iron Man 2 Comic Action Figures Wave 3 Revision 1 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HMV93758C1).  It was nice seeing Comic Iron Monger on the pegs again.

Also, all of the dust covered MK IV, and VI, and other figures had the old sticker that said $5 off coupon inside torn off and were replaced by, I would imagine a Hasbro rep went through and did it, with $1 off instantly coupons.

Well, I got 2 out of the 3 of my Hasbro free give away things in the mail and it turned out to be Iron Man 2 figures.  I didn't really need anything at all from the give away so I went out on a limb and thought maybe if i put IM2 on the list I would be sent the final wave of comic series figures....  to bad for me....

Mark 2, Mark 4, Light up Mark 6 with inaccurate movie colors, and Hypervelocity armor.

No biggie though - I will have my son give them to some kid for their birthday or toys for tots at Christmas.

It's sounding over on the Hisstank.com forum that some guys that put Joe for their first choice got skipped and their second/third choice of IM2 toys got filled.

I did 2 Joe submissions but my back-ups were Star Wars fig/vehicle and SW Transformers Crossovers on both.  I did have IM2 down as my 3rd choice behind SW fig/vehicle and Joe fig/vehicle on 3 others though.

I'm hoping now that I don't come up with any IM2 stuff since it's sounding like it's all early stuff that I don't want.

I think I already posted this somewhere, but I'm not digging for it.  Anyway, I submitted 6 total requests.  Four of them had Star Wars fig/vehicle in the 1 slot, Joe fig/vehicle 2nd and IM2 toys in 3rd.

The other two requests had Joe fig/vehicle first.  One had Star Wars fig/vehicle 2nd and Star Wars Transformers Crossover 3rd while the other had the TF Crossover 2nd with SW fig/vehicle 3rd.

At this point, my worst case, I'd end up with all SW products, my first choice on 4 and 2nd/3rd on the other two submissions.  Since the Joe vehicles seem to be either the AWE Striker or Cobra ICE dealy, I won't be upset if I don't get either.  I have the AWE Striker and the Cobra vehicle didn't impress me that much.  Although, a couple more of the Night Fox figure from the AWE would be cool.

I did put the IM2 option for 2 iron man action figures not the deluxe or the other set.  So, at least if I do get IM2 figures, they should be single carded.  I might find something to do with them.

There's a new wave of figures that I have only seen showing up at Target stores.  It's got the Stark Racing concept armor, and a couple of other new pieces.

However, it seems that with these new figures Iron Man will be shifting to a new package design.  I guess they're about to wrap up the movie line.

I've seen that wave at Target as well Nick - it's got a Black/Gold repaint of the Mark V/Suitcase armor and it's also got a Red/White repaint of the Concept Inferno Armor with a new (?) jetpack.

I wonder what ever happened to the updated Mark VI and War Machine figures with removeable helmets that were shown well over a year ago... We know the Nick Fury figure that was shown with them ended up in the TRU Heavy Artillery Drone set, but those two and the Black Widow figures have been total no-shows, almost like we're supposed to pretend they never existed in the first place.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

There's also a red/grey War Machine variant in the new wave.  It's really not all that exciting.  But that new movie style Armored Whiplash?  I definitely want that one!

As for the disorganization and mixed messages?  Chalk it up to Hasbro's Marvel group not being totally on top of things.  At past Toy Fair collector media events they have been the group that seems a little disjointed.  As for Black Widow?  I'm kind of glad they waited.  Hasbro has generally not been all that great with female figures, but the Avengers Black Widow actually looks pretty good.

Are you not a fan of the Marvel Universe female figures?  I've been dissapointed in the paint jobs on many, but I like the overall design of most.   I do agree that Hasbro Star Wars female characters are pretty weak.

It looks like the Iron Man 3.75" figure line is back and kicking!  I found figures in the new packaging today that were first shown at NY Comic Con:

Notable movie figures?  A new electronic version of War Machine, Iron Man mk VI with removable chestplate & a carry-forward of the Mark V suit.  Most of the rest are concept armor designs.

The Iron Man 2 figure line has probably been one of the better selling Marvel 3.75" basic figure lines.  Are we going to get plenty of different versions of Iron Man in this line?  Sure.  That's always been something that's come along with Iron Man....different versions of the suit.

The one thing that's been pretty disappointing with the Iron Man 2 line?  They should have offered more basic carded Hammer Drones as well as the Movie Whiplash armor.  I liked the Army Drone, but the only way to get that was in the TRU 4-pack with Iron Man Mk VI and Nick Fury.  And the Navy Drone was cool too, but you could only get that in the Target exclusive 3-pack with Iron Man Mk 5 and unarmored Whiplash.  This is where this line let a lot of people down.

Do you have some inside information on this or is that just your assumption?  I've seen a lot of stores that have tons of IM sitting around and I never really saw the pegs empty.  I'd guess that the Marvel Universe has been a bigger success for them, but that's just based on limited observations in what I'm sure is a small percentage of their sales.
Title: Re: Iron Man 2 Toys

The Iron Man 2 line was able to pull off a 3.75" figure line with a minimum number of characters and still put out a line that was in reasonably good demand, and made it to a figure range that's gotten up into the 50's in terms of figure numbers.  Considering that the movie came out 2 years ago and the figure line still seems to be alive and kicking?  That's pretty impressive.  Especially considering that other Marvel movies like Thor and Captain America and their respective toy lines had a considerably shorter shelf-life.

posting this here since it was mostly an IM2 find:

I saw these at WM tonight.  I took one to a price scanner and the price was in the system for $25 so I thought I would check them out and see what the possibilities were.

I ended up grabbing a set that had the following in it:

Comic Mandarin
Comic War Machine
Comic Whiplash
Comic Ultimate Iron Man
Comic Iron Monger
Movie War Machine
Comic Captain America
Desert Concept Captain America

I thought it was a pretty decent set so I gave it a shot at the registers and it worked - out the door at $25 plus tax.

I could have switched figures around from other sets if I wanted to but I didn't want it to look like I was stealing or something and this set was pretty awesome as is.  All of the figures have a sticker on the bottom covering the original UPC saying that these "are not for individual sale).  The UPC for the set is on the back of the box.

ps - I probably could have even subbed in some of the Star Wars figures and it wouldn't have mattered.

So what did you all get in your sets?

Awesome early score! So how hard was it to swap out the figures? I'm very keen to see all the different asortments they will have for the Clone Wars set. Wonder if there will be any differentiation among the Avengers sets too...

That's a great set... I only saw 3 of those figures at retail (both Caps and comic War Machine)

Pretty awesome score!  I'm not crazy about that Desert Mission Cap, but the rest of the set makes up for that.

Also, is there any chance you could give us a closer look at that War Machine in the upper left hand corner?  I'm sure it's from the final wave of the line, but I had never seen that one at all.

Yeah that War Machine is cool with the Rhodey/Vonner head sculpt

I noticed that unlike the Star Wars packs, the figures in these could  be "swapped" out without great difficulty...some were loose in the store.

I saw 1 of these sets in two different stores and both times one of the figures were missing. Which is weird because you can't ring them up individually. If you're going to swap out in the store, at least complete the swap BOTH ways.

Saw a few of these today. Not sure if the store started out with as many of these as they did the Star Wars sets but if they did, they were selling a lot better.  Think I saw most of the figures in the set above but maybe not the exact mix.

I did notice that they had the Warriors Three, two were in the same 8-pack, but didn't see a Sif. Anyone find her in one of these sets?

I ended up coming home with a Movie Heroes set that had all of the Wave 2 figs, which I didn't have.

I did not see her in a value pack, but a TJ Maxx had Siff like a week ago for $6...who knows if she is still there.

@Nicklab you can check that War Machine out a little here:  http://www.blackactionfigure.com/?p=151

also, I didn't see, nor have I heard of anyone finding the Thor movie wave 3 or Wave 4 specific figures in these value packs - i.e. Sif, King Loki, Laufey.

the Warriors 3 and grey Destroyer dont count because they were carry forward figures from wave 2

Interesting.  So I gather it's a comic series figure based on the armor design.  I thought that there had been no-helmet movie versions of both Iron Man and War Machine in the works for the figure line, but I guess not.

I only hit a single WalMart yesterday.  I can't abide dealing with Black Friday crowds.  And I barely saw any of the value 8-packs during that single store visit.

Looking forward, I'm really interested to see what Hasbro has in store for the Iron Man 3 figure line.  Based on the trailers it looks like the number or armors in Tony's arsenal is going to increase dramatically.  I guess we'll see at Toy Fair since the new movie is due in May 2013.

For those stores that still have the 8-packs, does anyone know if these are SALE priced at $25 or will the price up?  I wasn't able to get to a Wal-Mart this weekend, but really want one of those Marvel sets.   :P

@JediJman, I am thinking this is the regular price.  I am only saying this because I got my set on Wednesday and it was $25 then.  If it was just a sale price, then I would figure WM would treat this set like TRU did their vehicle 2 packs - $40 first, $20 for sale, I am presuming $40 tomorrow.

@Nicklab there were movie, no-helmet movie versions of both Iron Man and War Machine in the works, check out the set that never made it to retail:  http://www.onepercase.net/2012/06/cancelled-iron-man-2-unmasked-stark.html

you can nab War Machine all over ebay:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=unmask+war+machine&_sacat=0&_from=R40

These versions of Stark and Widow have, for the most part, been no shows.

Ah, yes!  Now I remember these.  Looks like someone in the factory got a hold of some molds and decided to make their own.  I'm kind of surprised that Tunghori didn't get in on the action.

I'm guessing that since Target had that exclusive pack with Iron Man Mk V, Whiplash with lightning effects & the Naval Hammer Drone sitting around that they weren't keen to bite on this other exclusive.  But the Iron Man Mk V armor was EVERYWHERE, and the line as a whole didn't sell as well as Hasbro had probably hoped.  And I think that probably trumped the potential appeal of that Black Widow figure as well as the no helmet Iron Man and War Machine.

Were they the Iron Man 2 line or the follow up "Armored Avenger" line that featured the Concept Hammer Drone? That's the one figure I wish I could still get since it closely resembles the armor Whiplash wears at the end of the movie.

Oh.  I have no idea.  The packaging looked similar to the IM2 stuff and in one of the stores I found two of the Hammer Drones, green and silver (Forget actual designations), along with all these other IM armors I'd never seen before.

I found the concept armor Hammer Drone one time at TJ Maxx quite a while back but the other IM figures with him weren't what I was seeing over the weekend.
