Title: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
Post by: Paul on February 1, 2009, 07:48 AM
I know freedom isn't free, but is it Tax free? And if not what rate?

On a less serious note....

Saw some pics of movie figs at the tank.... WOW how UN-visually impressive is the ALL BLACK "Terra Viper" is...the only think they can mess up is the silver bracelets..  oh and it is a croc master prepaint...  I won't go so far as to say death of the line, but this plus the combo of Hoth Rebel Troopers could swing my interest back to SW...might even just buy or start my own SW website, since I'll be saving so much $$ on Joes.

I will admit the Shipwreck looks decent for a DDP-esque Shipy

Oh man...that stuff's just terrible  What's the possibility that those are just poorly done mock ups?  I mean, are they really trying to get away with molding Croc Master in all black and calling it a Terra Viper (of course, this might explain why Croc Master's been so scarce at retail...).

IMO Hasbro should worry more about getting new product to market, not backtracking to help out latecomers

I saw the same revision case at a local Wal-Mart this morning.  This same Wal-Mart has not received any GI Joe figures since the Snow Serpent assortment back in November, and they got two cases of this wave 4 revision.

Normally I'm all for older figures that people had difficulty finding being cycled back into assortments, but when assortments of all new (or even repainted new) figures are being skipped over entirely by some retailers in favor of more rereleases of more figures that everyone has their fill of, it's ridiculous.

I'm just surprised that Wal-Mart and/or Hasbro didn't try to raise the prices on the basic Joe figures along with this assortment, given that that seems to be the modus operandi out there right now.   ::)

Mole Pod?  Mole Pod?!  What the **** is a Mole Pod??!!

If the toys are any indication, I'm standing by my comments in the GI Joe movie thread.  I'm dreading this film.

You're right, though, Shipwreck doesn't look so bad.  Still...

I dunno. As a 17 year old looking back at the 80's stuff, I'd say that the movie stuff is no more ridiculous than the old stuff. I'd say they had the right idea for the movie... try to make the military stuff crazy and futuristic looking to appeal to kids. If it worked in the 80's, why not now? I'll admit that the first year Joe stuff was kinda neat (what they started remaking in 2007) but a lot is downright weird. Vipers, Iron Grenadiers, and Jet Packs probably would have seemed as stupid to an adult in the 80's as the G.I. Joe Super Suits and Mole pods seem to you guys now. I'd say don't get too worked up over this film unless it kills the Joe line. It could be a good thing like the Clone Wars series for Star Wars.

This is all ******* gay.  I'm glad the 25th got born and will hopefully live alongside the movie crap or be brought back after, but I'm not buying the majority of the movie crap.  I really don't even like the 3 Resolute figs I have.  I think they're terrible.  Just not my cup of tea.  Hopefully I can return them back to Target.

LOL - wow... I actually "laughed out loud" reading my last post.   ;D  I've grown to accept my Resolute figures since last year, but ya - my opinion on the movie stuff holds true (for the most part)

Anywhoo....I picked up a $25 Pit today which I may end up regretting, but I just couldn't leave it.  Also picked up a $12 Ice Dagger at Kmart - I've been eyeballing this thing since it came out for ROC, but I never wanted to dish out $25 for it.  I dig it.  Can anyone tell me what the VvV version was called?  Was it a Hiss?  I'm a sucker for repaints and would like to pick that one up.

It was called the Ice Sabre back in the VvV days. That's the one I have, and it was only $15 at normal retail then.  :)

Wish I could have found the Bravos on clearance at my local K-Mart. They only had that 4-pack, so I got that for $10. Not bad, I guess.

I think the only thing that I haven't picked up yet, and kinda want from the ROC line is the Wild Bill/Dragonhawk.  But I don't want it enough to pay $25 - so I am holding off.

As for the $25 Pit, I debated getting it if I ever saw it go that low - but I decided I would rather save the space/money for the AT-AT.

Thanks Ben!  Off to eBay I go.  These were only $15 back in the day?  Nice price.  Only one of the three of my local Kmarts had the clearanced Bravo vehicles, but this is the first week I've been hitting those stores since a few months ago.

Yeah, Frostbite wasn't the best figure from the VvV days. I remember scoring the one w/ Torch and the snowboard, and being amazed at how awful he was.

Though $15 for that vehicle beats the holy hell out of the $25 they want for it now.  :)

Has anyone else seen WM raise the price on basic figs to $6.88? I noticed my local establishment raised their price to that recently, and I was wondering if it's nationwide.

These things didn't sell at $5; I can't imagine sales will be any better now.

Add Target to the mix too- I noticed a $7.89 price at one of my local outlets.  ::)

I was in Target yesterday (Saturday) and the figures were still $5-something on the pegs but were ringing up at $3.99 as of the middle of last week (I picked up Scarlett).

They barely moved here at $4 at Target, it doesn't make any sense to bump them back to movie price point since there's nothing new due for 3 months (or more).  I'm actually surprised Target has any shelf space dedicated to it right now, it's all old stock anyway.

I did actually see a little kid buy one of those digital camera/headphone jobs today at TRU.  At least I assume he got it, he told his mother he wanted it and was heading out with it when I left.  Oh, and TRU in Horsheads, NY has the Doc and Shipwreck exclusives.

Sadly what will happen is somebody that counts beans at both Target and WM is going to say.. "SEE we sold just as many figures at $5 as we did at $7, so those complaining customers don't know a thing"...

But they won't factor in that the figures they had available at $5 wouldn't sell at $2.

I don't pretend to know more than the folks with business degrees at these very successful companies, but I am afraid they might have 'incomplete data"...

Yeah, same deal here.  At $5 each, I was buying 1-2 each week the past couple months - but at $6.88, I think I'll pass.

Back up to $5.04 at my Targets.  I don't think a single figure moved at $3.99 at any of my local stores.  Maybe they'll just let these continue to rot until it comes time for clearance?  All I'm seeing are Destros, Turtle Vipers, and Baronessesss - so not much of a selection.
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
Post by: CHEWIE on April 26, 2010, 05:21 PM
Yeah, the selection here at the Targets is terrible.  They didn't move much of anything around here at the $3.99 price eitehr, but that's because of the selection.  Very few people need an army of Desto and Baroness... the Viper though?  I'm surprised he's sitting around so long.  I've pretty much had my fill though, with about 7 or 8 of them (and my son has 4).

Ya the Viper outweighs all of the Destros and Baronessesss out here by far - at least at Target.  It's too bad they didn't put the MARS Trooper on a card as he's pretty sweet and I would have bought a ton more of him for $3.99.  Well maybe not a ton considering I got 3 sets at HTS for like $18 a few months ago.  I think he was the only figure I saw online that actually made me want to cave on ROC stuff before the line came out.

Target here has Joe at $5.04.  Mostly Destro, Vipers and a couple each of Baroness, Duke and Scarlett.  There may have been a Snake Eyes in there as well as a SS, but I didn't look closely.

If they'd found some more Pit Commandos for that $4 sale I probably would have picked up a few more.

Oddly enough I went there yesterday and not only did they have more figures, but they also put up more pegs for these figures.  Of course all of the figures are all from Wave 1...

I got around to opening the Crimson Hydra last night from this line and I am not certain why, but I am not liking this one as much a I like the Cobra Hummer ride or the Gunship that I have opened so far.  Perhaps it was because it seemed like it took forever and a day to put the stickers on...  (I don't really care too much for sticker application process)  The cockpit hatch, or whatever you call it, on my Hydra doesn't snap shut - so it is always flopping open and that is pretty annoying.

I still have to open the Ice Dagger from this line and I have on order being shipped as I write this the Dragnhawk.  I am pretty excited about the Dragnhawk - but that might be only because of the Resolute style Wild Bill.

I'll have to check our Target, although they haven't had much there except the usual pegwarmers.  I noticed that Wal-Mart has raised the price back to $6.88 here locally (it was at $5).  Those will continue to sit.

Found an endcap full of clearanced ROC figures at a local Target. Helped myself to 3 Desert Ambush Dukes and the lone Ice Viper there.

I'm going to guess that all of these will sit until they hit $1.24.

I think I moved the last of the Ice-Vipers in my store at $2.46 but I may even break down and get a Duke and the Commando Snake Eyes at $1.24.   Maybe even one of the original CC.

I wish they had other characters than just these 5 or 6.  I'd love to pick up some Breaker, Pit Commando or Torpedo figures for that price.

Same here, at least so far.  Most are at the $3.52 price, but one is still up at $5.04 (and WM is back at $6.88).  Honestly, I don't think they're really moving at any of those prices locally though, although the selection is pretty lacking.  Looking forward to when there is actually new Joe stuff out there this Fall.

I was pissed that WM put the price back up.  I had just decided to pick up the Arctic Snake Eyes, but I don't want it enough to pay that much.

The Joe figs at my Target are still marked $3.52 but they are scanning for less so if you're just looking at the price sticker it may be worth a trip to the scanner just to see.

So, how many people actually enjoyed this line? I know it got a lot of flack, but for myself, I thought it was really well done. Good crisp sculpts, solid paint, and articulation and lots of accessories. I think I actually picked up the majority of them (nearly all of them at sales prices too, which probably helps my overall view of the line) I also thought they had a nice expanded collection beyond the on screen characters, like Shipwreck, Kamakura and Charbroil. I can't really comment on the quality of the film itself (having still not gotten around to seeing it), but as far as the toys are concerned I thought they did a pretty good job.

Don't anyone kill me, but I thought these were the most unique Joes we've gotten since 1990. I bought all the figs except the Nano-Viper, and while some were better than others, it was a good line. Overpriced as hell, but still good. As much as I liked it, the 25th line was kind of running out of steam, so it was nice to see Hasbro try something new.
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
Post by: efranks on June 12, 2010, 01:13 PM
I liked quite a few of the designs but didn't necessarily like all of the head sculpts.  There's just something about having Channing Tatum in my collection that I don't care for.  I really liked the design on a few characters like Ice-Viper and Scarlett (head is okay), Helix and the Pit Commando and the PP Snake Eyes is a nice new take on that character.

I was not a fan of the various Viper releases and Heavy Duty (didn't like the face sculpt).  The Ripcord figures were fine but I ended up not buying any of them.  I did like Shipwreck and Breaker but, again, didn't buy any.  Baroness is nice and I did like the Dr. Rex version of Cobra Commander but didn't care for the Destro figures.

The main thing I didn't like about the line was the price.  The only figures I paid full price for were the Pit Commandos and one Ice-Viper.  Oh, and City Strike Snake Eyes.  Everything else I've bought on clearance prices or with coupons/sales/gift cards.

As much as I like the classic designs, I only had a handful of characters left on my short list that I waned out of the 25th line and one of them we're getting next year with Low-Light.  The 25th line was starting to get too bogged down with repaints anyway, so the film figures actually made a nice jumping off point to kickstart a new direction for the line.  I think the upcoming POC figures are some of the best looking GI Joe toys out of Hasbro in the last 10 years, because they're a nice mix of classic characters and new imaginations.

I pretty much disliked the movie for the most part, so I didn't care much for any of the figures - including the turtle viper who should have been replaced by the trooper from the 3packs that never showed up at retail.  Love that figure, but besides those 3 or 4 3packs I picked up..I must be at 11 or 12 ROC figures...Mainly most non-movie versions.

Still stuck with 6-7 carded figures I picked up during the TRU sale that have no place to go but Toys for Tots.

I thought it was a great line, just a bit overpriced.  Hasbro did much better with it than I expected them to.  And given what they had to work with through the film, I'd say they did about as good of a job as could be expected with the figure quality.

The distribution wasn't the best, but overall I really liked the figures.  More in fact than most 25th stuff.  About the only other thing that irked me was that the only way to get Destro like you see in the film was through the exclusive.

Title: Re: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra

I was overall pretty happy with this line - but that is because I nabbed every single pack figure at a sweet price.  Pretty sure I nabbed most every one of them, except for the final wave, during a TRU sale - it was 2 for $10 and for every $20 spent you got a five dollar gift card that was usable like "x" hours after your purchase.  So, I just made several stops there throughout the week and in the end I was basically getting 4 figures for $15.

I was also able to get many of the other things at low prices during other various sales.

Now, with all that said, and being pretty happy with the ROC - I am very happy with what is coming out in the POC line.   One thing I may argue though is that I kinda grew used to the Tatum head, and I think I like the new Duke head less - especially on the upcomming jungle figure, I feel it has weaker paint apps on the head.

I stopped in a WM last night while I was out on the road for work.  Found some Joe figures I hadn't seen in a while, including Shipwreck, Zartan and Sgt. Stone.  Stone was one fig I had passed on that I'd been looking for so I decided that I'd drop the coin on him, $6.88 per the pegs.  But, he rang up for only $5 at the register.

Not sure if that's an isolated price or if WM dropped them again.  I probably should have gone back for the Shipwreck and Arctic Snake Eyes but didn't, I was too lazy to walk all the way back through the store.   :P

88cent figures at Target.  Caved on a Baroness.  Shame I'm not a fan of the turtle Viper - was about 20 of him and 1 Destro left.  Good price to army build that ugly thing.

Stopped in Target tonight and the GI Joe figures were $0.88 each.  I picked up a PP Snake Eyes, the first Cobra Commander and 4 Duke in Reactive Armor.  My plan is to use that Duke figure as a base for some head swaps and the SE jacket somewhere.  I picked up CC just because I hadn't before.

They have a few Duke figs left and a bunch of Storm Shadow figures that I'm not interested in.  Maybe one or two of the Commando SE and a Scarlett or two.

The $15 vehicle line was marked $10 and change but all they have here are a couple of Mole Pods.  I'd have picked up a couple of the other vehicles from that line but don't have much interest in that.  No sale on the $25 vehicles but we have one of the HUMMERs and a couple of the Cobra Gunships, which I'd probably pick up, but not for the asking price.

If ANYONE is buying that Baroness figure for customizing, I REALLY could use:

-Sunglasses
-Mars Container Briefcase thing & the 3 little tube things that go inside it
-Green Flair thing

Weird, I know, but I can use any of that stuff if people have nabbed her for customizing bits, and don't want any/all of those parts.

My local TRU just put out a case of wave 3. This is SO typical of that store. They haven't received any figures since they stocked Arctic Doc and Shipwreck back in February, and now, a matter of weeks before POC is supposed to hit, they put out a case of that stuff. It's flabbergasting.

Scored a Steel Crusher at Target today, on clearance. I didn't get this vehicle last summer, and around September, they disappeared locally. Glad to have it, finally.  :)

Now I just have to find Bench Press, the last wave of ROC Combat Heroes, and the Destro exclusive and I'll be done with ROC.

Great vehicle and driver.  Shame they couldn't have made it a 4-door vehicle though.

Is anybody finding these particular sets of Combat Heroes? I just cannot find these for less than $15 a whack on ebay...

Arctic Snake Eyes/Ice Viper (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=230434597134)

Duke/Para-Viper (http://www.toysrus.com/product/prodpop.jsp?LargeImageURL=http%3A//TRUS.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-5745060dt.jpg&displayTab=enh&productId=3502211&totCount=0)

I've scored some of the last waves at Target on clearance, but these two elude me. If you're seeing them in your neck of the woods, could anyone drop me a line please? Thanks.

No luck on those in my neighborhood Ben - sorry.

Anybody know what WM is going to do when all the new product is supposed to be stocked???  They still have tons of old SW/TF/Joe at full price - oh and not to mention a new $9.67ish price I saw today for basic Joe figs at one WM.
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
Post by: efranks on July 18, 2010, 07:35 PM
I wouldn't count on WM to have these on whatever the street date is for them.  They didn't put out the ROC figures until the film had opened where pretty much every other retailer had beaten the film opening by a couple of weeks.

I guess that may not be true in some WM stores, but was like that in two of them here.  I've read about, and what I've seen seems to back this up, that WM has completely passed on their focus on toys.  Apparently they're no longer focusing on putting TRU out of the toy business and have moved on to focus on other areas like electronics, and taking Best Buy down a notch.

Anyone have the Cobra Gunship thing?  50% off Bravos at Target here and I've always kinda dug the pilot, but not so much on the vehicle.  I guess HISS is saying that POC Bravos won't be part of the reset in the next week or two at Target.

I picked up the Gunship through BBTS when it was $14. It's OK, nothing spectacular. It's hard to fit figures in the back, there isn't any detailing on the vehicle itself, so it's just a gray ship, and it's pretty small overall. However, the Firefly that comes with it is pretty neat. Kind of like Hasbro does all the time- so-so vehicle, neat driver.

I'm waiting on the Gunship to hit at least one more discount at Target, then I'll probably buy it.  I may also pick up a couple more of the fig/vehicle sets that Target has.  After months of only having one or two on the pegs, they uncovered several cases of wave 2, including Snake Armor sets, and put them out at the $6 discount.  I think I'm safe waiting another day or two and getting them for 50% off.

Surprisingly enough, the 50% off sale at Target didn't decimate the Joe product.  There are still some Cobra Gunships and Steel Crushers there along with a handful of the fig/vehicle sets.  I don't think I saw any Snake Armor sets left, though.

Target got really sloppy on this round of markdowns, though.  They didn't tag half the items with the new discount so unless people scan them, I don't think they realize they've been marked down again.

All my local Target had left was Deluxes, and they went 75% off today too, so I bought another Serpent Armor. I thought about the Rip Attack things, mainly for the figures, but I passed.

I actually was looking for a Pit cheap at one point, thinking I'd just gut it into something very non-vehicle.  It actually went fast here if it went cheap.  Now I look at it as a waste of space for a project I probably wouldn't have finished anytime in the near future.
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
Post by: efranks on November 4, 2010, 01:40 AM
The Pit didn't sell well here but did move on clearance.  I don't recall how far it dropped at the various stores, but it didn't hang around too long.

The Night Raven surprises me somewhat.  It's not a terrible ship, it has some cool play features and is of a decent size, but it just didn't sell well at all.  Part of it, I'm sure, was the price.  It wasn't grossly expensive, but I think maybe there was some lack of perceived value.  I scored one cheap, maybe in the $10 range IIRC, on clearance at Walmart and I had a $5 gift card.  I didn't care for the pump action shotgun feature but it's not bad.

I see what Hasbro tried to do with the Pit and I think it's great that they took a shot, but I thought it looked kind of flimsy as a playset and too big as a vehicle.

For good or bad, though, I think that's a model that the SW team could have used for a Sail Barge.  Close it up, have some deck play features and then open it up into a couple of levels for your Jabba to hang out in, a band pit, bar for R2 to restock his drink dispenser from, maybe some prison cells.  Unfortunately, I don't think it was big success for Hasbro and they even stated in a Q&A that the Pit design ideas weren't something they'd try with the Star Wars line.  I don't recall if they were specifically addressing that to a question about a Sail Barge, but it's possible.

They are probably hoping with Christmas right around the corner to get some sales at the higher price point.

Anyways, I agree that the PIT format could have worked for a Sail Barge to a certain extent.  I almost bought one to convert into a fan fiction Sandcrawler design, but never did.  Too many other things were out at the same time.

Stopped at TJ Maxx here, and still no HOH or vehicles. They did have a couple cases of wave 10 from the 25th line, so I picked up Duke and a couple army builders. My store seems to be getting out of the basic figure game, since the 25th figs were $3 each and ROC were $4 on clearance. They had a ton of wave 2 Combat Heroes too, which surprised me. The TJ Maxx clearances have been great - picked up a lot of figures for $3.00 each.  If they mark down the basic vehicles from $12.99, I might get a few more of those too... also pretty much all this stuff goes to my son now.  Fortunately though he takes care of them and doesn't break the toys or even lose the weapons... My son opened his Pit Headquarters this morning for Christmas.

Putting it together only took about 30 minutes.  But the stickers look like a headache, so I'll look at tackling that later.

As a toy, it's not nearly as well made as the vintage stuff.  They just put too much effort into action features on the thing for my tastes, and the end result is a somewhat flimsy playset.  It's still cool, and he loves it, but this thing is certainly not what it could have been.  At least it's not all funky with red cannons and whatnot though.

I knew my Target wouldn't have stocked the W3 figs since they just stuffed the pegs last week with W2 so I stopped at a different store on the way home and scored the Snake Eyes and Duke figs from W3.  No Cobra Shock Trooper, of course, but there were 6 SE figs on the pegs before I bought mine so that they had several cases.

I looked at Storm Shadow but already knew that I wasn't going to be picking it up.

Duke looks nice and I like the pulse rifle, but the other gun/backpack thing is ridiculous.  Didn't even put it on him.  I bought him for the fig more than anything else, I think it's one of the better Duke figs to date.  I'll just have to outfit him from the spare parts from other figs.

Snake Eyes is brilliant, however.  Love the figure.  I think the straps between the legs weren't needed but everything else looks great.  I even like the Commando head on this one, even though the visor head has historically been my favorite.  I like that the accessories all seem to work well, even the silencers for the guns.  I have to reshape the holster loop to hold the silencer but that's not a biggie.  Love this figure.

Now, bring on Low Light!!!!

Ross gets more goodies....Sand Serpent With Star Viper  (http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/gi-joe-movie-2/sand-serpent-with-star-viper-at-ross-10081/)  I don't really care for the ship, but never did catch a good image of the pilot.....Wonder what that store will get next ?

I bought the Night Raven on deep discount last year and didn't really like it.  Something about it I just didn't care for.  I didn't like the pump action feature and the landing gear didn't roll.

The paint scheme on this version I do like, but not enough to track one down.

And I also just realized I posted a POC find/review here instead of the other thread.  Heh.

My TRU had all the ROC Combat Hero packs on clearance for $1.98 tonight.  Was tempted (as always) by the SE & Ice Viper pack, but I just had to say no and walk away...

I wonder if GI Joe 3 will be called Revenge of Cobra ?  ROC ?  Just a stupid thought if they even make a third movie...

Received a set of the Target Deluxes and the Sand Serpent this week from someone on Hisstank. It's great to have them, especially since I thought they were lost in limbo.

I would easily buy four more of the Whirlwind w/ Range Viper. Hasbro really needs a $10-12 price point for GI Joe to get these smaller vehicles out there, unless they've used up all the molds they have.

No new Sand Serpents, but I found some weird Target exclusives at Ross:  A Jungle Terror Twin Battle Gun with Range Viper, black and red Cobra Flight Pod with Elite Viper, brown Ram Cycle with Sandstorm, and my favorite, the Air Assault Glider with Capt. Ace (really Slipstream).

You struck Gold... those were here in D/FW for about an hour.  The Twin Battle gun has a good sized fanbase and the Trouble Bubble does too.

I was just glad to get a Slipstream since I never picked up the Conquest X-30.  He's the only Joe from Utah, you know (which explains the pedophile mustache).

I wish they made him (and Tripwire, for that matter) with removable helmets.  And as a further digression, I wish they made Mainframe/Dataframe with a better head, if not a removable hat thingy or whatever he's wearing.

Here's the Lava Pod (the vehicle itself is lame but the Volcano Viper is cool):

(http://www.theterrordrome.com/mint/pepper/orderedlist/downloads/download.php?file=http%3A//www.theterrordrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/roc-lava-pod-with-volcano-viper-pkg.jpg)

Here's the Tiger Claw (he's a total parts-mutt, but it's the best Leatherneck they've made so far):

(http://www.theterrordrome.com/mint/pepper/orderedlist/downloads/download.php?file=http%3A//www.theterrordrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/roc-tiger-claw-atv-with-leatherneck-pkg.jpg)

Here is the Polar Sharc with some generic snow guy ("Ice Storm"?) but I am a sucker for snow guys:

There is also a Desert Rockslide with Dusty out there, but I haven't seen one yet:

(http://www.theterrordrome.com/mint/pepper/orderedlist/downloads/download.php?file=http%3A//www.theterrordrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/roc-desert-rockslide-atav-with-dusty-pkg.jpg)

I think it looks like crap, but I'd get it just to get the web gear for my 25th Dusty and to use the head for customizing the protagonist in my forthcoming photonovel about dirty sanchezes gone awry.

I hate ROSS  >:(

Got a $35 (shippped) Sand Serpent off eBay - still too high, but the deco has really grown on me and I wanted the Viper.  Now to track down a black Hiss and I can bid farewell to ROC.
Title: Re: G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
Post by: efranks on March 4, 2011, 10:06 AM
I think the black HISS is technically a POC vehicle, but I get your drift.

I really liked the look of the Polar Sharc when I saw it at the GI Joe con last year (it was in a display at Hasbro), but after seeing loose shots of it over on the Tank, it's not that impressive.  Ice Storm isn't bad and would fit in with the new Adventure Team figures.

Other than the Volcano Viper, the rest of these kind of suck.  Well, Leatherneck isn't terrible, but I don't think I'm tracking any of these down.

So far I've been lucky, I got hooked up on the RAM and Flight Pod and the former Walmart exclusive Shockwave/Night Viper 2-pack.  I'd still love to snag a $15 VAMP, though.  Actually, at this point I may have to settle for any VAMP I can get since it never hit retail here.

In the GIJ vehicle w/figure line for the movie, was the Lava Pod thing hard to find?  It has a freaky Lava Viper with it...  Saw one this evening and hadn't really seen it before.  There was a Gung Ho with the Quad as well it seemed.  Another thing I don't quite recall.

The Lava Pod was quite difficult to find.  The pod itself is lame, but the Volcano Viper is a super awesome figure.  The guy with the Quad is technically Leatherneck, although he's got Gung Ho's head.

That wave of vehicles hit Walmart in Canada and then Ross in the US, but I think that's about it besides maybe some online stores.  It suffered the same fate as the third wave of Target fig/vehicle exclusives; cancelled.

I think we're lucky that Ross ended up with these, it puts them on the market and even at eBay prices, they're more affordable than if they only released in Canada or overseas.

Actually, Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Family Dollar, Five Below and even TRU Express (and maybe a couple other places) really helped the collector community out.  TJ Maxx, FD, FB and TRU Express carried a lot of the end waves of 25th and Ross pulled out all these ROC items that never hit normal retail.

It's sad that we had to rely on these types of stores, but I'm glad to have the chance at some of this stuff for a better price than if it were never released.

OK, let me ask then about a ROC Submarine with a GI Joe in a Tossle Cap...  that uncommon too?  I saw it this evening at ROSS, and the Lava Pod...  Saw the Lava Pod and quad with Leatherneck at Rose's, a store I believe is only east coast and new to Pittsburgh all together I think.

Yes, the Polar Sharc sub was also part of the wave that never saw mass retail release in the USA. The sub being irritating to some considering it was actually in the movie, and probably should've been released earlier.

I'd forgotten that Desert Rock Slide...a vehicle that makes no sense. Try using a ski mobile in any desert, see how far you get.

I opened one of the Lava Pods I got tonight...  That's a pretty badass figure indeed.  I'm giving my bro the Submarine though I may wind up taking that back if he doesn't want it.

That Lava Cobra is really neat though...  Very well done, and now I see where that Bio-Hazard Viper is from.

That's interesting.  I don't recall ever seeing any ROC toys at Borders back in 2009.  They had a lot of stock of the Avatar toys for a while but other than some NECA Harry Potter stuff, during movie releases, they weren't big on toys.

I was never impressed with this GI Joe line. I just didn't like the way the figures were adapted to represent many of the characters from the movie. They just looked cheap and easily forgettable among the GI Joe universe. The vehicle sets however were interesting and I did pick up a few of those.

That's not Beach Head, it's Sandstorm from the cancelled wave of Target exclusive sets.  He came with the RAM Cycle.  They showed up at Ross stores and may have been in Canada also but not positive on Canada.

To set a link without the long url you use an open brack [ url= then past in your link and close the bracket ].  Then type a word or two to describe the link and put a /url between two brackets [] to finish it.

Also, I should mention that it looks like he isn't complete.  He came with a helmet and some weapons also, although I don't recall exactly what accessories (other than the RAM) without looking them up.
