Title: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Scott on January 28, 2011, 10:09 AM
So far this is rumored to be:

(http://www.jedidefender.com/lobotsdup/hanbespin.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/lobotsdup/barriss.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/lobotsdup/rebelfleettrooper.jpg)(http://www.endorsystem.com/celebration_iv/autografos/mikeedmonds.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/lobotsdup/fordo.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/lobotsdup/bomvimdin.jpg)

Bespin Han Solo
Barris Offee
Rebel Blockade Trooper
Logray
Captain Fordo
Bom Vimdin

Very solid wave and probably my most looked forward to part of Toy Fair and 2011.  Bom Vimdin has been my #1 want since they made Hermi Odle...

If this lineup holds true, this will be an awesome wave.  The Bespin Han Solo has been on my wishlist for a good 5 years plus.  The Rebel Fleet Trooper looked pretty good from the ToyFare imagery, too.

I'm a little disappointed that Hasbro would revisit Logray before getting around to offering Lumat.  However I think they're deliberately trying to space out the remaining Kenner vintage reissues since those are quickly nearing completion.  And that POTF2 Logray does look a little out of place with the more current Ewoks sculpts.

Ditto!
I want every figure in the Wave even the boring Clone. I also plan on getting x10Han Bespins and at least x20+ RFTs.
I really hope the rest of this wave is on display next month at TF.

If this lineup holds up, this is definitely the wave I'm looking forward to the most this year as well.  A new Bespin Han has been my most wanted figure for awhile, and I really hope it isn't that kitbashed version from the abandoned comic pack that we saw a peek of awhile back.  The rest of the lineup looks great too, as a new Barriss Offee is much needed and the new RFT goes without saying.  I'm always glad to get another ewok (and the POTF2 Logray looks pretty out of place now), and Bom Vimdin is probably my most wanted Cantina alien at this point as well.  Fordo could be a pretty cool figure as well, and maybe our last from the previous CW series (which I still think was pretty great).

I just really hope we see this wave at Toy Fair.  I'm a little nervous that we'll only see Wave 6 (which, while great, we've already seen a bit of), and it would be nice to see something "all new".  I know the Toy Fair displays have been smaller and smaller lately, as they hold back for SDCC, but I worry we might just see the AOTC wave, Wave 5, and Wave 6 on display.

As someone else pointed out, Hasbro doesn't plan to have the annual "SW Spring Hiatus" this year, so there will be more prodcut between TF and SDCC.

Cool, cool wave.

that is news to me and good to hear.  I think what really helps out the showing at this TF is that there isn't a Celebration this year - so they are not holding anything back for that.

Good figure mix.  Bom and Fleet Trooper are obviously really high on my want list, but Captain Fordo has been up there too for ages.  Bespin Han Solo had better be an out of the park home run.

Amen.  After the abomination of what they tried to pass off as "Yavin Ceremony" Han, they owe me big time on Bespin Han.   >:(

Nope. No Wedge on single card released at retail. Orders from Lucas himself.  Ha-ha.

Wonder if Logray comes with removable beard to simulate the EWOKS cartoon version that sucked. Beards and 'staches on bear creatures...wha?

Bwaahahaha...."Fordo" is the Phase 1 Clone style. What a let down to those expecting the Battle of Coruscant version. The rest look nice, though. Unexpected (by me, anyway) accessories with Han are cool.

Man, really looking forward to this wave (and seeing some clearer pics when the slideshow is available - and hopefully they'll have them in their booth at some point).  Bespin Han has been my most wanted figure for awhile, and of course the RFT is a big highlight.  Not to mention a new Logray, Bom, Fordo, and Luminara.  Just a strong wave all around, can't wait.  Glad that it is supposed (hopefully) to be coming in May, and we don't have to wait until the Fall - at least if the slides are accurate and the dates hold up.

Bwaahahaha...."Fordo" is the Phase 1 Clone style.

Nope - they said he will come with TWO differnt clone helmets and two differnt style pauldrons so you can pick the one you want to display (or buy two to have both).  They also said he's be called "Clone Trooper Commander" on the card since he's not technically Fordo due to some licensing stuff.  He's also rocking a faux-hawk hairstyle under his helmet...

Other thoughts on this wave.  I LOVE BESPIN HAN.  So so sososososos nice to see a SA kick-ass Bespin Han.  He comes with the welding goggles and a welding tool.  He's great.  Thuis whole wave actually kicks a lot of ass.  Bespin Han and Bom are two of my most wanted and neither let me down.

So glad to hear that the Bespin Han is great.  I was worried after all this waiting we might get some sort of retool mish-mash, but it doesn't sound like it.  Do they have this wave out on the floor, or just in the presentation?

Yeah we've seen really goofy paintjobs on the prototypes at times.  You can tell some of them are rushed to the show.  I'm sure it'll be average prfoduction which Hasbro has improved eye aps since about 2005.

Love Fordo...  I like these EU Clones where they play with the hair some.  I like that we're getting two helmets too...  Reason to buy him twice I guess.

Bespin Han: at last this version corrected the saga tlc  torso, the stance seems better, it would be necessary to see an isolate pic of him stand, to learn if the legs are already corrected from that very thin shape of tlc saga versions.

Rebel Fleet Trooper got all necessary item for display. As with the Echo base trooper, his pants pockets made his legs look more realistic than with a simple knee ball joint.

Is the Han jacket a separate piece or is it sculpted to the torso?

That Fleet Trooper looked brilliant. I'd have to buy at least one or two out of sheer respect for its awesomeness. The accessories just seal the deal.

Post by: Jesse James on February 12, 2011, 11:41 PM
Dare I say the most solid, awesome wave of 2011?  Yes I do.

Here's why...

Bespin Han Solo...  First you have your cool anchor, an all-new Bespin Han Solo.  Super articulated and FINALLY ditching that damn ball-jointed torso for something much better.  Looks like it'll be a good headsculpt though production shots will tell the tale on likeness.

Getting the goggles is a nice plus, however if there's one gripe it's the thigh-strap...  Will Hasbro have one sculpted to the holster when the production figure arrives?  Right now there's nothing.  I'd rather that than the sculpted-on one to the thigh, however I'd most appreciate it attached to the holster.  I'm guessing the production figure WILL have it.

Barris Offee...  Next you have your Jedi flavor of the month update, and it's a good one.  She's been the only arena Jedi besides Pablo Jill that needed a pretty decent upgrade, and they got her just right.  Outstanding.

Logray...  Now you've got your Ewok update.  Hasbro has steadily chipped away at these guys, and we're now getting one that's been almost as long as Wicket between new figures.  Teebo needs it more, but I suspect he'll get an update soon enough too.

Captain Fordo...  And then you get a clone, because every wave of every year gets a Clone now.  But you don't just get some random bull****, oh no.  You get the EU Captain Fordo from the ORIGINAL Clone Wars, and you get him with both brain buckets to boot?  Why buy one when you can have two at twice the price?  He's outstanding, and I love his gear.  Can't wait to add my two to the old Clone shelf, which is overflowing at this point.

Bom Vimdin...  Now you get your alien freak.  Every wave should have one of these guys too.  The random sideshow of the Cantina delivers another fantastic collector-figure, and this was my most wanted alien so I'm obviously especially happy to have him.

But...

Rebel Blockade Trooper...  Hasbro went pretty above and beyond on this guy, and yes I am accepting full credit for its greatness.  ;D  12 or 13 years of incessant bitching since Hasbro never did the original figures justice has finally paid off!  I can now basically quit the hobby with some level of peace.

So he sports an EU cap from (I believe) Rebellion (or Empire)?  I actually was going to do these myself, now I don't have to!  I even had the perfect cap lined up for them from a model kit.  Very nice Hasbro.  And he also rocks some EU Leg flares?  I can't quite place where RFT's wore the leg flares at, but I'm down with getting them for this trooper to wear anyway.  The blaster may be new, can't tell, and that's fine.  I like blaster upgrades.  The helmet looks like a more snug fit.  And lastly you get a scanner gun too?  Nice.  I was hoping for that.  The Pike then becomes just gravy.  I have about 90 of them but I'll take another dozen.

There are two issues...  The vest is non-removable, a step backwards from the last figure, but not one that'll make me care.  The extra bits kind of make up for it I think, as they're really unnecessary (well, the hat and leg things are anyway).  The other one, and I may just not be seeing it, but where's his holster at?  That seemed odd that it's not there.  I hope it's included as every Trooper had one on pretty much.

I'm loving this.  It's the best wave to me, and the RFT is the cream of this wave IMO, though I know Jeff leans towards old Han.  :)  Thanks for the RFT Hasbro...  Now when I review it, don't make me list how hard it is to find, or that it's now up to $10 a figure.

I don't want to be "Debbie Downer" here but let's all tap the brakes for a minute....

Maybe Jeff or Rob could tell us if he seemed Vader-esque in his stature?

Jesse detailed this really well already, but I agree, it looks like the strongest wave of 2011 so far (and everything looks pretty good).  Sure, the Han alone could have sealed it for me, but like Jesse mentioned, it is such a nice break down for a wave.  One main character, a Jedi, a Clone, an army builder, an alien (Cantina or Jabba's Palace), and a POTF2 update.  That would be a decent template for most waves I think.  Can't wait.

Wow, I don't usually buy Han figures, but this one just looks so great! The Hoth Han is gonna look pretty lame right next to Bespin Han. Hasbro finally fixed the leg problem by giving him ball-joints!

A question - press release shots of Barriss Offee show her with a soft goods cloak. The displayed version shows her with a plastic cape - and it actually doesn't look half-bad, I actually hope that she comes with the plastic cloak. Has Hasbro said anything about which version will be released?

I believe Hasbro has said it's going to be plastic, not cloth, which I like the cloth one pictured too.  I'd rather they didn't replace that.

I totally agree on the Rebel Trooper's height Scott.  I'd forgotten that possible issue, but he looks, if anything, a tad shorter than Han even since Han's actually in the background a short distance.  Now that you bring it up though, I think his height is going to be just fine.  I'm really getting pumped about picking up a decent army of him.  Wish I could've thanked Darryl in person for knocking out such a good figure. :)

One thing I love about Bom too is he has a rifle, for no real reason.  Love that.

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed in Barriss Offee not coming with a cloth cloak.  I really wish they'd stuck with that, as I much prefer it, however it appears they sculpted it so it wouldn't interfere with the character's posing much at all, and so that's appreciated.  If that's the route they're going to go I like the effort to not make it obtrusive to playing with the figure.

Lumat needing resculpted...  Which one is he, exactly?  Or has he not had a modern update at all?  When it comes to the POTF Ewoks, I wind up getting confused because they were kind of generic ones, more or less.  And I agree totally on the AT-ST Hijackers.  As a matter of fact I'd really love seeing the AT-ST put out with an even better deco, specific to THAT AT-ST (it has some really specific blast marks on it), and maybe packing them and Chewbacca in.  They're probably my most wanted Ewoks, even ahead of Teebo getting redone (and boy howdy does he need it).

And on Fordo's Kama, he's actually the 2nd...  The Gelagrub Star Corps Trooper/rider actually was the first, for better or worse.  I actually like it, but there's something slightly off about it.

On thing thats been fairly consistent about Hasbro lately, they've been making drop dead perfect figure of highly wanted figures. That RFT is just awesome. I sincerely hope they make and ship a lot, because I will pick up more than a few.

I am agreeing with Jesse that this could be the nest wave of SW figures ever. I am really likening everything here and the extras included are outstanding! The ball cap on the RFT is so awesome! I want to see Han Bespin production shots, I am a bit concerned on the legs they look skinny but I like the figure overall and I really hope they do add the leg strap on the holster.

Count me in for x3 cases and many extras of Han and RFTs. Love it

Great pics!  This figure does not disappoint.  The articulation looks awesome.  And the accessories are pretty awesome.  Just running through those...

-Helmet
-Cap
-Blaster pistol
-Staff
-Rangefinder/scanner
-Ammo belt

This is all going to fit on a TVC card?  But then, you can mix and match so much of these that it'll be cool to make each trooper a little different.  And I think that the cap is gonna be a great addition for the Rebel Honor Guards from the 30AC line.

Yeah I was wondering that myself, and I guess nothing was mentioned at the show.  At least i've seen nothing.  Every Trooper had one pretty much, between both sequences with them.  Kind of odd it's missing then.

It's kind of odd it's missing at all even, considering every Cantina guy gets a holster even, snuck in somewhere whether it was on the costume or not.

Post by: Jesse James on February 17, 2011, 09:51 PM
That and the removable vest.  I think the images at TF proved he's not going to be too tall at all, but the vest is actually somehow a step backward from previous versions.  It's my only gripe at this point though...  I'd do without the holster even (I'd rather none at all than one that didn't function), however I somehow think it might get added in at some point.

The staff I can live without since I have dozens from the Guard, but the holster?  Wow...  Lame.  I hope they repack the figure in some capacity with a holster at some point.  Every RFT had the holster, so it's a pretty glaring omission from the figure.  Disappointing.  I wouldn't yet call it a dealbreaker to me, but disappointing for sure.

Lots of accesories for the RFT, missing the holster, but perhaps is due to show a better sight of the legs sculpt, which depict the wear of loose pants.

I like this version of Han, taller and slimmer than previous. Then it could be say that the thin legs are reflex of the tight pants.

Logray is represented as a cool evolution of this figure. Like the paintjob.

No "Captain Fordo" name and an incorrect size bubble template RUINS the ARC Commander!
No extra pack-ins RUINS Logray!

(funny how a few weeks can change everyone's perspective on things  :-X)

[Hasbro Apologist Mode]
No holster strap on Han is forgivable to me.  Sure, it would have been nice if he had one but if he really does re-use the General Lando legs, then I get why he doesn't have one.  Since Lando doesn't need a sculpted strap, there isn't one on the leg.  And, since the Lando legs apparently have ball-jointed hips (to ensure they fit in the new BMF cockpit), then I get that too.

So, I'm going to believe that Hasbro left off the holster strap to ensure that Bespin Han and holster fit in the BMF cockpit.  I can live with that.

(I got no defense for the missing RFT holster though :P)

I just can't see how Hasbro would miss this, ya know?  They ALL had holsters, even the guys at Yavin base, haha.  I can't honestly recall one guy without them except possibly at the ceremony since they're harder to see.

On the Tantive IV though, I'm pretty sure everyone had them.

I'd agree with this Paul.  Every detail is pretty much there on the RFT in the 12" figure.  They didn't miss much at all, if anything.  It's one stellar item I need to bite the bullet on and pick up.

I just watched SW again and I have a question...where exactly do the RFTs wear those caps?  Or is that just a bonus to give out to the honor guards etc?  I was also really surprised to notice how many of the techs (which is coming with the sled) there are...tons and tons of those dudes all over the place with and without helmets
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on March 10, 2011, 04:58 PM
Here's an interesting thing on the techs Scott.

Watch the scenes at the Command Center closely, and the dude with the headset communicating with the pilots directly.  He's actually wearing a completely different uniform.  Instead of a jumpsuit, he has a shirt that's cut exactly like the Fleet Trooper's (or han's at the ceremony), and pants that I'm not sure you can see.

I've always considered him a "Technician Commander".  He's one of the only guys in this uniform you ever see.

Techs are everywhere though, for sure.

As for the hat, I am not so sure it's in the movie at all.  In the Expanded Universe, either Rebellion or Empire comic series, there's a story that involves Leia's ship and the troopers are wearing grey caps when they're not in a combat situation...  Kind of like our own military.  I love that detail though as it makes sense they'd have a cover for their downtime.

I've scanned the ceremony sequence for a while now and never noticed grey caps on any Fleet Troopers.  There are TWO distinct types of "Officer" uniforms who are wearing caps though, and they have a red/yellow/black design on the caps in some cases (with a shorter brim).  These guys are in a more relaxed style of uniform.

Then there are other officers with a longer-brimmed hat in a more fitted uniform, and ascots.  The best shot of one of these guys can be seen behind Leia for sure.

The only place I've seen the trooper with the "Flare" band on his leg is standing in the front row at the medal ceremony which is kind of odd.

Those things on the leg were on pilots legs in WW2 and had flare cartridges in them.  If I can find a pic of a 1:18 pilot with them I'll post it.  There are some German figures with them I know.  I like the extra gear...  The pike would've been nice too but like I said, I'll live without that if it's nixed.  The extra bits like the scanner gun, leg flares, and cap are really nice though.  I just wish he had a friggin' holster, haha.

That's dreamy JACK, thanks.  And the eyebrows do look very much like the old vet leading them in the Tantive IV, but so far most images/protos have implied a fairly generic looking younger guy...

I wonder if they'll give us the guy with brown or white hair then?  The holster really bugs me though, and the non-removable vest.  The vest thing should've been old hat at this point, and the holster is really just perplexing why they'd not do that.  I'm anxious to see a production image of the figure though.

This will probably be the last army builder I actually buy in quantity.  Due to the price hikes I'm really going to be avoiding buying extras now, except this dude.

I think it'll be a little more subtle in the final figure.  The proto at Toy Fair seemed more accurate, however the shirt is a little brighter than the movie generally has shown...  not much though, and it is a little bright on those images.  I'm betting production will be right though, regardless.

Very interesting...  I prefer the younger, but could the Pello Scrambas sculpt be part of something else like a battlepack or something?

It's pretty clear regardless though, that these are two different headsculpts.  One's very young and worried.  One's a bit older and concentrating looking (like a lot of the recent Jedi headsculpts).  I like both, but prefer the younger more generic headsculpt.  Pello would be welcome though considering he's one of the first characters seen in the entire Saga, who makes you wonder who he is and what his story is.

Head variant would be awesome. The eyebrow's look different enough. I really hope this figure becomes a main-stay, because at minimum I'm getting 8-9. Might go for a whole company of 38.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on March 15, 2011, 11:20 PM
It's not just the eyebrows Anton, look at the expression...  Look at the lines on the face, the placement of the eyes between the two, the mouth's expression...  They're actually very different.  The Scrambas face is noticeably aged and "angry" or concentrating...  The original head is much younger/smoother and a little more neutral or "concerned" looking.

I'm really hoping this is a sign of head variants making a comeback in some capacity.

For some reason I thought Hasbro said something about the Endor Rebel and other Revenge carded figures wouldn't be different, but I may just be misremembering that.

While it does look like 2 different sculpts in the comparison images I wonder if this could just be the difference between a prototype/paint master versus a production (or at least close to it) figure? Case in point: look at the antenna on helmets - they are different as well. If we are to assume that there is going to be a head variant, can we also assume a helmet variation as well? I suspect no for both but stranger things have happened in this line.  :P

The helmet on the older sculpt seems to me to be the last RFT helmet we got (Capt. Antilles was the first to sport it) I believe...  I'm wondering if it's what we'll get (it was quite nice IMO), or if we'll get an updated bucket like on the other trooper then?

The helmet could just have been a placeholder for an image though...  The heads are very different sculpts though, and why sculpt two heads if you're not planning on using them both?  I lean towards yes on the heads, and possibly yes on a new helmet.  Or at least the two heads were sculpted with the intent of using them but one maybe got the axe.

But I 100% believe those are two sculpts...  I've sat and looked at them a lot, and they've got huge differences between the two, such as the lines in the face, the angle of the eyebrows/eyes, the placement of the eyes/nose/mouth is different...  I'm positive they're not the same sculpt, but one maybe wasn't ever intended to be the final one I suppose.  The first one almost looks like the old Capt. Antilles figure but the mouth isn't open at all I don't believe.

Or that Hasbro was going with a younger/generic sculpt and possibly Lucasfilm got on them to do the older trooper or something.  I hope we get both though...  I prefer the younger to the older, but getting Pello would be nice for sure.

Either way as long as the body is great there will always be heads from other figures to fit onto it. I am really looking forward to this figure and the rest of the wave! On side note they need to redo Captain Antilles too...
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on March 16, 2011, 07:51 PM
I agree completely on Antilles.  He was sculpted to look too young before...  I was always a little disappointed in that, but I generally enjoyed the original figure and still have a pile of extras of him I use for customs.

I'd gladly buy a new one though, with updated articulation.  Dude deserves it, and who wouldn't want SA Officers to go with the grunts?

Now...  I'd like to see the Honor Guards put out again, but with ballcaps and a more brown color to their uniform (a new headsculpt would be nice too).  I'd buy more of them.  I still buy them when I see those guys cheap as well.

A new Antilles would be outstanding, and I think a new General Dodonna would be great as well... not sure how well that old man would do as a basic figure priced around $10.00, so "maybe" Hasbro could get creative and make a battle pack with the following:

- General Dodonna (new)
- Rebel Fleet Trooper (new, head variant)
- Princess Leia (retooled arms VOTC version)
- C-3PO (B.A.D. sculpt)
- war room table

Just an idea.

Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on March 17, 2011, 03:33 PM
Chewie I would love that pack! You do not even need to retool Leia's arms just use the ones from the Medical Frigate Leia, they are ball jointed. I just swapped heads heads to update my ANH Leia. I would prefer the retool the ANH head, it looks nothing like Carrie Fisher and way too young. The Medical Leia head has the most spot on likeness in my opinion.

Maybe if they retool Dodonna they can make the "Safari Joe" looking General and the others with the body so they get more mileage out of it. If Q&A's ever come back maybe we can ask/seed the idea to them.

Yeah, I actually did the same thing with my Leias, I have two of the Medical Frigate ones with the VOTC head.  I'm guessing Hasbro's going to use those parts for a basic figure, but the Battle Pack would be fun I think.

Thanks to Jayson & 501st for sending me a link to the figure first...  I was out this evening and have been working since I got home, and this was a cool surprise to see once I got back. :)  I can't wait to army build the crap out of this figure.

Interesting to note...

(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/011TVC_FleetTrooperHeadVariant_TN.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/011TVC_Wave7FleetTrooperLoose01_TN.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/011TVC_Wave7FleetTrooperLoose02_TN.jpg)(http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/files/gallery/Conventions/Toy_Fair_2011/Hasbro_Star_Wars/tn_TF2011_StarWars_0098.jpg)

They both have a gauntness to them, but the eyebrows, eyes, and mouth are so distinctly different...  I see detail in one that isn't there anymore in the final figure.  I'm wondering if Hasbro altered it to be more generic?  I'm really intrigued by the whole thing.  If I ever wished that they'd do head variants again, now is the time I wish they'd get to it.  It won't happen of course, but it'd be the ideal time to give us variants of a soldier.

Looking at all of them including the proto at Toy Fair though, the TF one is the obvious youngest, the original "Official" Hasbro image is next youngest, but his looking up screws up my perception some maybe, more Pello though.  Then the second Official Hasbro image is very accurate to Pello Scrambas...  the final figure looks like a little bit of a hybrid then, at least to me, but it doesn't look like the super accurate portrait of the old RFT Dude that Sideshow did for their 12" figure.  At least not to me.  It's generic enough I'm pretty happy about that.

Love it and love that we get the EU hat.  Too cool.

Great looking figure though, really.  I think this is maybe the only figure I'm truly geeked about that's coming soon, and I hope I can get as many as I can.  I've waited way too long for this figure to be rare, haha.

Another observation...

-Still no holster that I can tell.

-The underarm has a noticeable splotch of blue...  could the vest be removable afterall, or is the cut of the vest itself just with very large armholes and Hasbro painted the armpit region blue?  Tough to tell by the photo.  I'm still of the opinion it's not removable right now.

Painted antenna on the old style helmet too I noticed.

The thought alone was nice.  I'm just so giddy to see a good one, finally, after I've been collecting seriously since my teens (about 13 or 14).  It was one of the first involved customs I made using Endor Han, a Death Squad Trooper head, and some plastic bits.

I wonder if the RFT would come with the staff of the Yavin Honor Guard
I dont remember if there was some kind of photo at sdcc 2011.

The two heads variants are a plus for the figure, as the painted antenna.

The blaster charges strap anticipates a virtual evolution for rebel pilots, maybe some time, they would come with that detachable piece, so the sculpt of legs must become more exigent. (You may say Im a dreamer but Im not the only one.)

Death Star Gunner's got the most accurate one, aside from the color...  If it were brown, that'd be pretty spot-on.  I don't know if it fits a RFT style pistol well though.  It fits the Impy blaster perfectly, but just not sure on the RFT style one.

Do not feel too bad, I checked three times a day since the first posting and then he reposts just as I shut my computer down. I knew this figure would be popular but not this popular. I want to order some other figures but I am trying to hold out for what will hopefully be round 3. If he raises the price again I will wait for online retailers to get them carded. sometimes his figures have flaws. I also noticed if you order a lot of figures from him in one order he usually messes up and is not the best at making good on fixing the issue. I still like him but I am stating my many experiences with him, it happened several times.

Jayson, good eye on the Fleet Trooper hat...  They didn't color it tan ultimately, but they're definitely there.

I can't find it on Wookieepedia but Leia's troops from the Tantive IV had hats on too, in I believe either Rebellion or Empire series.  Theirs, I thought anyway, were grey.  I'm wondering if this is a hybrid hat then, and that's why the toy's is grey?  Or if Hasbro just liked grey better maybe and decided not to go with the tan?

Ultimately it's probably a situation where they ran out of helmets, but still neat to put an image to the hat at this point.

I get why they went with the plastic cloak, the cloak is so essential to this character. If it did not sit right it really would throw off of the character. The only aspect that I am not digging (but is easily fixable via pop/swap) is the off color of the cloth dress compared to the rest of the outfit. Otherwise I think this figure looks great. I will order some if he gets more RFT I can get to....

I think Barriss looks ok too, I'm just a little disappointed we'll now have this one Jedi with an immovable robe.  I would've much preferred softgoods I think, regardless...  A little poof would've been appreciated I think, just to have a figure not hindered by a robe.  I'm really surprised they went plastic this once now, when the softgoods robes are pretty standard.

Well my box of Wave 7 Rebel Fleet Troopers came from Hong Kong today.

This figure is great.  Even Jesse will think so mostly, I'm sure.

The figures from Hong Kong though are not coming with the baseball cap!!  It came with the regular RFT helmet, blaster, radar gun, and ankle ammo hoster dealio.

Yeah I'm gonna email him.  I checked the auction, picture #2 does show the figure with the cap on, so, I feel like he owes it.

Not that I would have passed on the auction if it only came with the helmet.  The figures are really really nice.

Also, not to tweak Jesse, but it does not look all that different from a POTJ RFT.  The articulation on the new Vinty one is far superior obviously, but just for looks, don't throw away the POTJ's.  They blend really well.

I'd take pictures but I am just too lazy.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on April 23, 2011, 05:03 PM
I got mine too...  And I've never criticized the aesthetics of the POTJ Fleet Trooper, just the pre-posed sculpt, the lack of attachment for the holster, the lack of function for the holster, the ****** tiny pistol, the lack of a removable helmet, and the lack of articulation...

Oh, and the inability for the figure to stand easily.  Mine all fall over because even the ankles were sculpted pre-posed.  It's as useless as any arena Jedi, or the Naboo Security Guard guy, or damn near anything from 2002...

Did it look like a Fleet Trooper though?  Absolutely.  Did it look better than the POTF2 Fleet Trooper?  Absolutely.  But as my argument went in 1999, and today, it was still a ****** toy at the end of the day, and below Hasbro's precedents even for the time.  It's even ******** today.  Mine have been sealed and put into the "retirement" copy paper box.

Long live the new one...  Though...  He's definitely not perfect by a couple of issues.

Also I did not get the hats as well Matt, so chalk this up to being pretty standard.  I'll be shocked if we get them, to tell the truth.

Well, as far as the hats go, we didn't get something we paid for, so we do have the power to leave negative feedback.

I'm not saying I definitely will, but that's an option available to us.  Sellers really try to avoid that.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Scockery on April 23, 2011, 06:58 PM
Always try to resolve the issue first, of course.

I've never ordered from Tunghori, but my experience with a similar Hong Kong seller was getting a replacement free. One of the Shadow Stromtroopers (the Force Unleashed version) I ordered had a tear through the right ankle by the joint. I sent a picture of it, and he mailed a replacement. Though the replacement didn't have a blaser and  it, like half of the other figures I'd gotten, had one leg longer than the other. But I didn't pay that much to begin with. I almost never win those auctions because I'm reluctant to invest too much money based on a stock photo.

One time I got a scout trooper with two right lower legs, but didn't notice until after I left feedback.  :-[

Yeah I already emailed...  It was a little bit of a shock to open the box, then no hats...  I mean, they were pictured.  But I'm thinking there wont' be much good come of it, and I doubt I would leave negative feedback over it.  I'm more just annoyed.  If I got some of the shipping cost back I'd even be content on the hat thing.

In other news...

I posted a review of the new Vintage Collection Rebel Fleet Trooper.
(http://www.jedidefender.com/jmccracken/VintageFleetTrooperReview/011Vin_Wave7FleetTrooperReview016_TN.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1303613986,62431,)
Clicky To Read The Review!

Basically it's just as I imagined...  A couple things annoyed me, but nothing soured me on this figure.  He is what I expected, and I was pretty satisfied.

The sculpt is really detailed, the likeness is a mystery (It's like the sharp Pello Scrambas features were sort of worn down, almost rounded off) but cool and neutral enough, the accessories are small yet they all appear to be new, the deco is on-par for what it should be (the blue is correct CHEWIE, fear not!), and the articulation is what it should be.

Other than the vest, and holster, I'm pretty much completely happy... other than the hat, haha.

I can't tell if the hat is grey or tan by the photos, but it's a cool accessory regardless.

And sorry for the photos.  I'm using my camera, and don't have anything too fancy, plus I'm doing this from my gf's house and not my own, so my set-up is even more limited.

I can't wait to buy, wel, another 100 of these guys? :)  Maybe not that many...  or maybe I will over time, I don't know.  Depends on how long I'm still collecting.  Either way I'm in on an army of these Fleet Troopers.  I waited too long to not buy them now that they're here.  Even if I quit tomorrow I'd still army build him.

I just hope he's really easy to pick up in quantity.  :-\

I did not receive hats but am not worried, already left positive feeback and have no issues.

Agree though most ebay sellers do their best to avoid neg feed and tungi has always backed up any errors well (of the two he's ever made with my purchases in the past - out of more than 35 sales) so I'd say he'd send out hats if he has them and people ask for them.

I'm gonna bet he doesn't have them though, is the problem.  Not much way to remedy that unfortunately.  It's like my last buy, I got a broken figure from him unfortunately, which wasn't a big issue for me but I'd rather not have had one, and ultimately he couldn't replace it because it was a fast seller.  Such is life though...  I wouldn't leave him negative feedback over it, but I also don't expect to get any fix for it either.  He's a good guy though, in any dealing I ever had with him.

I'm curious if we'll get the hats or not.  I emailed him regardless.  :)
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on April 24, 2011, 03:22 AM
By the way, and I didn't include this in the review...

The limbs on ALL my Fleet Troopers were incredibly stiff, and most had to be run under hot tap water to loosen them up.  I also had one soldier whose shoulder pin, and the shoulder itself, had fused.  I popped the arm off, and think I may have found why there's some issues going on...

These figures all may have a new pin style on the ball/socket joints.  In the past, generally the pin has been made of a rigid plastic, and ABS.  The limb then, surrounding the pin, is poly-vinyl, which is cheaper.  It's what flexes when heated with warm water, and the ABS stays rigid and only becomes pliable under more extreme heat.

Anyway, my Fleet Trooper's shoulder pin on the arm I removed was now, itself, a poly-vinyl material...  It seemed like it bonded to the poly-vinyl of the limb itself then, in the production process.  This could be something people see with all Fleet Troopers though.  When in doubt, run the joint under hot tap water to help you loosen it, otherwise the pin may snap if you try to force it.

I had to do this to virutally every elbow, knee, and a few shoulder joints on the 5 figures I bought.  Good luck to everyone avoiding a break.  I haven't taken a figure apart completely to tell if the pin material has changed or not though.  Once I have a significant army of them I'll have one or two set aside as sacrificial fodder.

And on a completely separate note, I'm kind of curious why, if they'd cut corners at all, they'd still make a new blaster and helmet?  Both those were really well done in the first place IMO, and the new ones are better to a degree but not nearly enough to bother with...  Not to me anyway.

But yeah, watch the joints on yours when you get them.

Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on April 24, 2011, 02:09 PM
Yeah CHEWIE, I think it's just a slight risk from some of the ball-joints, but sorta ****** it was on a RFT.  Ultimately this guy will just become one of the fodder troopers is all though.  I've had it happen once before as well.

I'm still weirded out that the pin is vinyl though, and not ABS.  I'm really curious if this is the same on every figure or what.

The other 4 are all decked out and fighting a mystery enemy now...  I love them.  :)  They really look great together.

Dressel, if Tycho and Yavin Techie fit, then the Hoth Rebel head should fit as well.  May wanna check that out if you've got those two heads available.  Not sure on the Endor Trooper's noggin.  He has a long neck and sometimes that changes how a figure's head sits.

Also a LOT of the Rebel Pilot heads should also fit this body...  the Red 10 guy, Ekelarc Yong maybe, any of the A-Wing pilots...  possibly even Dak if you wanted a guy wearing a little beanie hat (maybe he was chilly?).

Round up all those random extra heads though, so you can do some swappin' in the near future.

I didn't realize the Spacetrooper head fit those as well...  Which is kind of odd, but it'd work I guess.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on April 27, 2011, 02:17 AM
So I was fiddling with my Trooper(s) tonight...  :-X

I decided to swap out heads a bit.  In my experimenting, I found a ton of different headsculpts that fit the new RFT perfectly, or come pretty close to fitting.  Even the new Endor Trooper ALMOST fits, and is just a tad loose.  The McQuarrie Rebel fits, tons of pilots, etc.  Lots of head swapping is possible with this figure, which I should've mentioned as a positive to the figure since I think Hasbro  has acknowledged that (if they can) they're trying to make neck pegs reusable between figures ala G.I. Joe...  For some reason they say it's not a simple thing to do, but they seem to have accomplished it with this figure at least.

Of my five, I have 2 now with Hoth Trooper headsculpts (clean and bearded), and 2 with the original head.  Captain Needa fits though and he's pretty generic.  I even used the one guy with a pony tail from a Legacy comic pack, some of the random EU heads, various troop builders, even Clone/Jango heads sometimes fit this neckpeg pretty well.  Some are snug, some are a little loose though and just a hair away from fitting the neckpeg.  Regardless, lots of headswapping is psosible, so good luck to those wanting to do that.

Also was giving them different weapons...  I always envisioned the Rebels as organized, but with elements of "rag tag" to them.  Like the first organized U.S. military in the Revolution.  We'd have our "regulars" and our militia...  the militia have the ragtag look, and the regulars have a more uniformed look.  The things that cost the most, would have the most ragtag look about them though, weapons especially.

So I started giving them Stormtrooper rifles and things.  They looked neat with them.  They also look pretty badass lugging the typical Rebel rifle around, or some Clone Wars military surplus like Droid blasters or Clone rifles...  I can't wait to have a 1000 of this figure. :P

Also, here's a weird fact about the Trooper...

I took apart my messed up arm trooper tonight, and noticed that the way he's sculpted (his vest hangs down over his belt partway down his lower torso), there is a large gap underneath the vest where the upper/lower torso's connect, that would easily accomodate a separately sculpted belt/holster.

This is odd...  It's clearly a big gap beneath the vest, right at the belt-line.  I'm wondering if a belt/holster was planned, but got the axe?  There is definitely space though, regardless.  It just seems too perfect for a separately scuplted belt/holster for it to be a coinky dink, but yet it could also just be that way to add "depth" to the vest too.  If the belt did get the axe though, I really wish we hadn't gotten the leg doo-dads or scanner gun then.  Maybe even the hat.  :-\

It is all relative, with the price of gas and time spent, the fact the RFT is one per case and the unstable retail prices, I think paying appoximately $14 for a figure that will retail at $9 is not that bad.  Basically would I have bought them all if I found them at TRU or the Grocery store?  Yup.

Clicky

Logray looks like typical Ewok fare, pretty slick...  Kinda hard to digest at $8.99, but he'll do.  A definite pass for customizing fodder though because of the price.

Bom Vimdin...  Pure awesomeness to me, since he's the Cantina dude I've wanted the most now for a while (as Hasbro keeps knocking them out pretty steadily).  Love the deco, love the detail...  Loving that he has a rifle he totally doesn't need (and most Cantina dudes don't come with extra weaponry).  I forget but his background I think is a bounty hunter in the EU, so the gun makes sense from that perspective.

Han Bespin...  The gem.  Jeff's gotta love that!  My only gripe, obviously, is no thigh-strap...  Hasbro's got one on Bom even, and not Han.  They've mentioned looking into it in Q&A's, and it's totally doable.  I'm disappointed on that, the same way I'm disappoitned the Fleet Trooper lacks a holster.  :-\

That said, it's one flaw on what looks to be an otherwise flawless figure.  I mean that's some really sharp sculpting, and though the goggles obscurei t slightly, I think the likeness is looking like it may be Hasbro's best work for a Ford figure...  Love the welder/goggles too, though I'd have appreciated the holster thigh-strap more.

I'm already scheming how I could do the thigh-strap myself.  Round elastic would work, but finding it in brown may be a bitch.  It'd work great though if you just drilled a hole in the back of the holster and ran it into there, tied it, and voila...  Probably the most functional style that could exist.  I may practice that on another Han, just to see how it'd look.

One other flaw...  His blaster just doesn't seem right anymore.  The  Commtech pistol had its day, but I'd have dug an update to the gun with this figure I thinki.  Especially since it seems there's a number of re-used bits with this figure now.

Still great, but not flawless.  Not much is, if anything ever is, but the way things are priced I'm more much more aware of it I think.

Of course he's a bounty hunter. If not, he'd be a spy, criminal, assassin or a rebel sympathizer who later flew a fighter at the Battle of Endor. Nobody in that bar was a drunk who worked at the hardware store or an insurance salesman.

He's the must have figure of the wave for me. Because he's never been made and likely won't be reissued after this.

At least bounty hunter's a pretty common profession, whether anyone's good at it or not. :)

That is the EU's greatest downfall...  Even ICMG got turned into this super spy.  Pure horse****.

It seems like most of you are satisfied with Tunghori.  I am thinking of just going for a couple of his items the next time around.  I'm sick of retail and buying cases.  I'm not a fan of paying $14 for stolen warehouse figures or wherever he gets them from,  but it's better than nothing at all.

Despite having 3 cases on preorder I bit on a Han, i could not resist he looks better than I thought. I wanted several other figures and grabbed him along with x2 Barris's and others for some custom work.

On a unrelated side note I am also upgrading my EP3 Jedi Starfighters with real droids so I needed a Kit astro from Tunghori. The New Kit can actually fit in a EP3 Starfighter. I gave him Anakins Green post Darkside.

Dang, I almost never buy Han figures - but this one is definitely making it into my collection (provided that I can actually find it at retail and/or before prices hike up another $1-2)! I think the big problem with all previous Han figures is the weird-looking torso and hip area, mainly because of the swivel hips. Ball-jointed hips seem to have solved that problem.

Looks like Han has those hinge joint shoulders like the first attempt at Bespin Luke, I would have preferred the other kind, but it's by no means a deal breaker for me.

So I'm confused after reading the EE listings...are we not getting this wave now? It looks like they have Bom and RFT listed with Wave 8, but there's no mention of Barriss or Fordo. Are those 2 just carry forwards and somehow Hasbro just leapfrogged a wave? So we would actually see Barriss and Colt AFTER these guys?
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Scott on May 18, 2011, 08:32 AM
Barriss and Fordo are in Wave 7, Wave 8 is a refresh wave which introduces the Revenge of the Jedi figures.  Bom and RFT are carried forward.  Which is odd because I would probably only ship Bom once and ship Han twice.  Sounds like retail suicide to me.

Although judging by my local Target, the chances of waves 5-8 ever showing up due to the plethora of Wooofs, Sandtroopers and EIII Clones is slim to absolutely none.

Glad to hear the Revenge cards will be hitting retail. I thought they'd just be coming in that Comic Con monstrosity.  I'm shocked your Target actually has Woof!  The target near me has nothing but wave 1!!!

I also just realized there used to be 8 pegs of vintage and with the latest reset we are now at 4...so there are four pegs hidden in the back room of the same Clones, Troopers and Woooooooofs
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7

Wow, a reduction in the vintage pegs is a bad sign for the realistic liine right now.

Woof isn't a massive pegwarmer here because Wave 3 kind of came and went, but we did have one Woof at KMart that just wouldn't leave.  Someone bought him recently though.  He was, without a doubt, one of the pegwarmers of the wave though.

Now the only wave 3 figure I see is the Rebel Trooper that gets refreshed in other cases.  Just bought one the other day of him, but in general he sells too.

I saw WM doing an aisle reset the other day and couldn't get a look at where vintage was there.  The woman seemed like she was purposely pushing her cart anywhere I wanted to look, so I have no clue what's getting moved or what's getting cut back at WM stores.  I should probably check my Target now too, to see if they cut the # of pegs down.

This would really explain a lot of the lack of ordering at Target though.

My local Target has 4 pegs for the Vintage too but they also have a row of the Vintage 3 packs. Once those sell through I imagine that the pegs for those will be reallocated for TVC figures.

Wow, a reduction in the vintage pegs is a bad sign for the realistic liine right now.

Yeah, I always wondered how the sales for the line were.  There was so much talk in the Q and A's (from Hasbro themselves) about how the Legacy/collector/etc. line was struggling so much, while CW continued to sell very well.  Vintage was supposed to be them "pulling out all the stops" for collectors, and honestly, I think it has been a pretty nice run so far.  I noticed the reduction in peg space at our local Target after the reset as well, so it will be interesting to see what happens.  There is a lot of real estate dedicated to movies this year (TF, GL, Thor, Cap, Cars, etc.), so that doesn't help matters any either.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on May 18, 2011, 09:15 PM
To me, Legacy was more of them pulling out all the stops than Vintage has been...

Don't get me wrong, love the cards, but Legacy/BAD was cheaper, gave you basically 1 or 2 figures per wave extra with the pack-in parts...  Other than the card, it was really ideal, at least to me.  30AC was a really banner year for the collectors too, between the main line and Legends both really appealing to the collector.

That said, Clone Wars has the kids...  I know when I'm in the toy aisle and see kids or parents looking over figures, it's always the animated stuff.  I can't blame them, but the two lines (and I consider them separate) competing against one another has been the bane of the realistic line now for some time I'm afraid.  The clear separation means one line has the kids, with some collectors, while the other line has practically only collectors...  Collectors cannot alone support the line, and it's starting to show.

It makes me wonder sometimes, had the CW line been realistic styled from the get-go, and movie/CW figures were a little more integrated, would things be as they are today?  I don't know.

You make a great point here - and in a way, The Legacy Collection was in some ways better than TVC (don't get me wrong, I love TVC). As for pricing and availability during the TLC era, it was much easier to buy a figure from TLC, and yet the line still got the axe. TVC was to start the realistic figure line fresh all over again, and it did - for a while, at least. Once the time comes when TVC starts to take a dip in sales just like TLC did, Hasbro's probably going to end the line, whether or not there's a nostalgia to the packaging.

I still think the Vintage line is the best of the best in terms of the new figures sculpt/details/articulation. Value is definitley not there like Legacy and previous years offering. It's a sign of the times which a lot of it is out of Hasbro's control.

What is in Hasbro's control are the case packs, Wave 7 is a great example of this. They are reminding me of Mattel when it came to the 2002 Master of the Universe line that eventually sank it. I do not think SW will be sunk but the smaller peg space for Vintage is discouraging. (I do think it will slightly increase after the Summer Movie Blitz and the Blue Ray ramp up). There are so many avoidable mistakes that have been made it's frustrating to see. This cases assortment is really annoying with the peg rotting carry forward of the two Vintage culprits the Sandtrooper & White Clone, the only two figures besides Dengar and 4- Lom that you can find in my area. (The occasional CC Pilot still rots and certain locations.) At this point I would be thrilled to see a Wooof as so many are reporting. Gammoreans, Extra Fleet troopers,, extra EP2 Clones, Senate Duel Palps, Magna Guards, AT-RT drivers are clearly better choices to carry forward in Wave 7. I get Luke, Boba and Jango while I would love to see others instead I do not mind them as they are good sellers.

I wish this wave would show up already I am jonsing for some new figures.

Yeah, it is frustrating.  Hasbro cannot control petroleum or plastic prices, but they can make good decisions on figure choice, case breakdown, and distribution to some extent.  You'd think all the years of being in the business that they'd learn and things would be the best they've ever been instead of perhaps the worst.

I've only done it at Target, where each line has a generic DCPI so it's easy to get away with.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on May 20, 2011, 05:46 AM
Yeah, Target's DPCI system lumps everything Legends under one number, everything Vintage a number, CW, etc., etc.

Pretty much every other retailer uses a different system that has every individual SKU in their system, but it's how WM for instance runs into issues where an individual figure (or more) from a wave can't be sold because their SKU's aren't in the system while others are...  Lumping it all together is beneficial, but at the same time you can also manipulate it by returning stuff you don't want on the same receipt which can screw with stock/inventory issues obviously.

I will get a picture up and maybe somebody can tell me who they are... Once it gets past "Han, Luke, Chewie"...I only know them as Endor Rebel, Hoth Rebel, AT-At Driver and Pilot Guy...(which is why I am never good at wishlists)

Ok I do Know: Jodo Kast (no KMart for Miles but Tung sent me 4), AT AT Commander, Endor Rebel.... I will get the others up.  Basically I am using the same 10-12 head sculpts for all my Rebel Troops.  I can confirm they are all Star Wars, no Joes or Indiana Jones heads.
Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on June 3, 2011, 02:40 AM

Lots of heads fit...  Lots.

One of my favorites was actually Biggs.  Biggs is unique looking of course, however he doubles really nicely for the RFT walking around with a black mustache (he gets captured, I do believe, and is walking with hands on his head).  The Biggs head from the TIE Pilot costume fits perfectly, and really looks like that guy for some reason.

I received my cases last night this entire wave is just awesome!

- Captain Fordo is a really kick ass figure. I have a few to change the looks. Both look great!
- Han Bespin really delivers despite a few minor misses
- Logray is the best Ewok to date and
- Fleet trooper is a figure collectors will go nuts for. I am sad I only have 3. Need more, lots more ASAP!
- Barris is a solid Jedi and making the Cloak a 2 piece plastic was really smart to keep the aesthetic right.
- Bom Vidam is perfect! Lots of accessories, articulation and detail. He is perfect!

This wave is equal to the ROTJ wave! There is not one figure that falls short! FYI - This case also includes the Boba Fett with the corrected boot paint job that was in short supply back during the Xmas season. If you missed him before you will be able to find him. I have 2 available if interested in my trade list. yes, it was a plug and friendly info at the same time.

Oh man, I can't wait until my case arrives tomorrow! I have no idea how Hasbro is going to deliver on collector demand for the Fleet trooper. I really hope they keep him coming in a few waves, and release him in Legends.

And I've got to say, there's something utterly satisfying about adding a new Cantina alien.

Correct! It allows the head/hood to be move L/R without the cape itself.

Oh well, time to see if the shredder at the office can go through a useless clone or two.

So my Wave 7 Case arrived today from Entertainment Earth...

It's funny when an Ewok resculpt you really needed, and a Jedi resculpt you really needed, are the lamest two figures in the case.

Seriously, it's a good wave.  Here's a few quick thoughts.

-Logray (Ewok Medicine Man):

As Ewok resculpting goes, there's not a ton that Hasbro can screw up.  There's a pretty easy formula where you give the figure as much articulation as its short stature allows it, a good (scaled and detailed) sculpt and deco, and you try to accessorize him to the hilt these days because you only get one figure and you've gotta fill that packaging with something.

Wicket was a good example of what to do, and Logray is pretty good as well...  but not perfect.

He's got the first part down though.  Logray rocks 12 points of articulation on a figure that's like 2.5" tall.  Short of knee joints, which would be hard to do I think, he's pretty perfect.

He's got the sculpt going for him too.  Far better detailed, and shorter, than his predecessor, Logray is the right size and features the "serious" look to his face (for lack of a better term) that he seemed to have.  The fur's got a lot of depth to its sculpt, finger and toenails...  It's pretty detailed.

The accessorizing isn't bad either.  It's not amazing, not for $8.99-$9.99, but had this figure come out at $7.99 I'd be pretty impressed even though it isn't part of a 2-pack.  Plus all the gear has paintaps...  that's something the Ewoks can't really get away without, and it's added cost.  The spear itself is 3 colors between the grey spearhead, the leathery string, and the color of the wood handle.

His bag of Ewok Anti-Anxiety Pills is exceptionally detailed (compare it to the picture on the card, you'll be floored), and has a lot of different colors for the various animal skins on it and whatnot.  The same with his staff and hat, which have some bone details that aren't just painted white and left go, but rather have a wash to give them a little life.  I think there's room for more, he's just that colorful on his accessories, but what we got isn't too bad.

What isn't great is the paintjob on the figure itself...  the stripes are very straight/even on his arms and legs.  On the body, not so bad, but on the arms they're clearly applied even.  There should be a little blending between the light and dark fur of the striping.  It stands out, but it's nothing that would make me say "pass" here.  Plus he's got cool glossy eyes, a little teeth showing, finger and toenail paint aps...  He's alright.  Just needed his arms and legs blended between the light and dark fur a little bit.

-Barriss Offee:

A lot of people's opinions may be more shaped by whether they like softgoods or not, on this figure.

On my sample there's one major flaw though, and I've noticed that when there's one there is often more when it comes to this kind of "issue".

Regardless though, Barriss sports a plastic hood and robe, two separate pieces, which are nice, but I personally prefer fabric.  Being toys, and not statues, I'll always side with fabric in instances where the character is expected to do action-y stuff like fight.  Palpatine?  OK, plastic is fine (Unless it's bad Palpy), but for a Jedi, she should have the softgoods.

That said, she's got almost everything else going for her.  She's got a ton of articulation, 14 points to be exact, and can acheive just about every cool Jedi fighting pose anyone could want, plus she can still stop and take a break or just stand around.

She sports a saber with an oddly pale blade (will this too get fixed, like the Dagobah Landing Luke's saber?), and a hilt to snap onto a hole on her belt.  Also I've noticed Hasbro has extended the pegs on the saber hilts so they snap into the holes more snug and sturdy.  Cool beans.

Barriss rocks a pretty snazzy sculpt with a VERY tight, fine ribbing to her costume's upper bodysuit thing.  Her pants have a rougher texture to them, and she's sporting heels that no woman should have to do battle in.  Her belt has a cool heart on the buckle too, which should make fans happy to get that little detail.  And her hood/robe is sculpted very form-fitted to the figure's head, so there's no chance the hood will rest oddly on the figure.  Actually, you have to remove her head to get the hood on/off, it's so tightly sculpted.

Her likeness seems great, and her paintjob is even better.  There's no bleeding on mine, the eyes are perfect, and the little dots on her face are perfectly placed and even.

The one ACTUAL flaw my figure has, is that my sample's left leg is a great deal longer than her right leg.  The articulation lets you still stand her ok, but it's very, very off.  This disappointed me because A) I'd rather not buy a 2nd figure, so I'm stuck with this one, and B) I'm concerned this could happen a lot with this figure.  Lopsided legs usually aren't just a one-time-deal.

Oh, and the softgoods skirt...  It's perfect.  Great fabric choice in texture AND color.  It's great.

Otherwise, a really flawless update to me.  She's perfect...  I still want a softgoods cloak for her though.  Screw this plastic thing.  If you want something that looks perfect but doesn't move, 3.75" toys aren't the place for you.

-ARC Commander:

Love or hate Clones, this is probably one of the coolest that Hasbro has ever done.

First he comes from great material.  The original CW 2D cartoon is incredible IMO, and one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars crap.  What's better though, was that Hasbro actually gives you basically two figures with this one.  Like Zam Wessel in Wave 4, and few others, this is really a couple figures and worthy of buying a 2nd.

The figure utilizes the new Clone body with its uber articulation.  Score 1.

It's got a great paintjob, very crisp (though one could argue that they want battle damage, myself I'm ok with crisp).  Score 2.

You get a ton of gear.  Score 3.

What's even cooler though, Hasbro gave him a new Clone headsculpt with what looks like a mohawk that's growing out.  I like it because I like the idea of Clones individualizing themselves a little bit, or trying to, and so it just is neat to pop the helmet off and see a "seasoned" Clone with a cool unique hairstyle for a Clonetrooper in general.

You get instructions how to put the unique outfits onto the trooper...  Hasbro sewed the Kama with a piece of elastic as an interior belt, and so it keeps the Kama snug to the figure's waist.  All you have to do then is snap the pistol belt on, which has a very easy to use snap in the back (it's a long snap that plugs into a perfectly sized hole, so it's very easy to do).  The belts are made of VERY flexible plastic, so they fit really easily.

Also the holsters are actually slit on the side, so the character's oversized blaster pistols fit easily in and out of the holsters, rather than trying to do an extra-bulky holster sculpted around the gun.

The figure's only flaws are that he lacks paint on the bottom of his shoes (I miss that on Clones but it's something Hasbro is drifting away from on ALL figures anymore, not just Clones), and once again we have a figure with an antenna on his helmet that doesn't move.  Hasbro has done the movable "range-finder" on Fett helmets and so it's possible.  Honestly the range-finder is the only thing that actually annoys me here.

I mean, even his Kama has a red stripe on it, the fabric is again an excellent choice too in texture and how it stretches some and moves with the figure...  It's really just a well thought-out figure.  If I were a rich man, I'd try to buy up a decent little army of these guys just because I think it's one of the cooler figures I've gotten in a long while.

-Bom Vimdin:

And just when I get done gushing over one figure, I gush over the next one...

Vimdin is my most wanted Alien since the last one I wanted the most, and Hasbro keeps knocking them out and doing a great job.

Bom looks ready to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and he is out of bubblegum.  His costume is hyper detailed, with every spike on his leathery vest sculpted perfectly.  He's even prickly to hold, which is kind of neat.  I picture this guy taking some backtalker by the back of his head, and just smacking his face off of his vest to shut him up.

The costume has tons of detail, from wrinkles and folds, to straps and buckles.  His belt is a gunslingers, low on the hip, and adds a little extra "badass" to him.  He looks straight out of a Western really.  This is the original Cad Bane IMO, just without the hat.

He's got a ton of paint aps too, like gunmetal for buckles and the spikes on his vest, to a brown horn on his head, black eyes (like a doll's eyes...  farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies...), leathery washes on the vest, boots, belt...  He's got a lot of detail for a figure these days.  He's going to look great in your Cantina.

And plus, he comes with a ton of gear.  I guess he's a Bounty Hunter, so he should I guess have some extra weapons, and he does sport a nice rifle with a scope, and a cool little pistol.  Both feature some extra paint details...  And nobody is in the Cantina without a nice mug of something, so he's got a nicely painted cup accessory.

Here's the weird thing though...  His pistol and rifle are made of the most rigid plastic a Star Wars weapon has ever been made of, other than the metal hilts from 2002!  Seriously, these are oddly sturdy weapons.  They'd snap if you pryed on them.  Not common for SW weapons, but obvious proof they could give us less gummy **** too.

Add in another 14 points of articulation, and this is really just another great addition to the Cantina.  Seriously he's maybe one of the bigger badasses in the Cantina at this point.  The "wild west" look to him wins me though.  He just needs the hat, and he's perfect really.  He's my new top weirdo.  My Uncle Graper is officially out of a job!

Anything bad?  Well, paint's bleeding...  Hasbro's getting cheaper with their paint aps, not just in quantity, but in quality.  More paint bleeding now than ever.  Also a little bummed his eyes aren't glossy.  They're flat black and they used to give a gloss to eyes just to set them apart.  Otherwise?  It's pretty perfect as a Cantina alien goes...  Maybe include a chair for him or something?  Vintage packaging doesn't allow it so basically all you can do is cite it as a flaw and move on.

-Han Solo (Bespin Fatigues):

Jeff, hold onto your boxers.

Easily the finest Han Solo figure, ever made, vintage to now...  Seriously.

It's the best articulated Han figure, it's the best sculpted, the best likeness, and not poorly accessorized.  Paint on it is so-so, but nothing major.

First his sculpt, he's sharp all over.  There's great wrinkling to the coat in the sleeves, and at the belly of his shirt as well where it's tucked in.  It's really neat how they caught that.  The pants are just the right "tight".  They're not skin tight on the character, but they're not loose either, which is a classic Solo look.

The likeness is incredible IMO.  The hair from ESB is just perfect, and I think it's the best face sculpt of Harrison Ford they've ever done.  To my eye, it rivals 12" figures in terms of detail.  From the eyes, to the nose, to the mouth, it's really a good headsculpt in general.

Also his hands...  Weird as it is, they got the right one in a typical pistol grip, but his left hand is opened at the index and middle fingers, and it's just posed differently.  Why is this cool?  Well because it leaves that hand open so you can pose it like Han is bullshitting his way out of (or into) something.  It's a neat and very small touch (no pun), to have the fingers posed differently.  It strikes me as very intentional by the sculptor.

The pistol belt is a great separate sculpt, and all new.  It fits the figure's waist perfectly because of how it's sculpted.  My only gripe there, once again, no thigh-strap for the holster...  I don't get Hasbro's reluctance to give those to Han figures.  Seriously.  To me it's no different than the RFT's holster issue.  Bom Vimdin has the thigh-strap for God's sake!  How does Han not, in the same wave?  Weird.

Articulation is great...  Ball-jointed hips on a Han?  Perfect.  I think they should all have them now.  I would've liked to have seen Han get some articulated wrists here since he apparantly re-uses Lando's legs, but I can live without the wrist joints.  They just would go a long way on a figure like Han here.  Still though, 14 points and they're almost all ball-joints, so that's a spicy meatball.  I defy you not to instantly pose him in the valiant draw-on-Vader-in-the-dining-hall pose right out of the packaging.

Gear...  Not bad.  The goggles are neat and actually magnify his eyes goofily a little bit, and the laser welder thing is cool too.  It's new, smaller than Chewbacca's...  I guess it's for detail work?    The pistol is looking dated, but still holds up ok and got some paint aps so it looks better as well.

Paint aps aren't bad, but the coat is a little shiney and should be a bit duller.  That is the plastic, not really paint, but I'd have liked to have seen maybe a dull coat on it to just get it less noticeable.  There's the yellow piping on the pants, which looks great as well.  The eyes on my sample are pretty good (Harrison Ford's eyes seem sort of small/beedy, and they look good on the figure).  There's a little light brown wash in his hair too, enough to make it look better than just the one single shade of brown many figures have gotten.

Other than the thigh strap, my only gripe is that the coat is not separate of the shirt.  I think that was a step backwards the same way the vest/shirt are molded together on the Fleet Trooper.  it's sculpted with a bit of depth, but the paint aps show that it's not separate, and make it stand out a little.  It's not a deal breaker by any stretch, just a corner cut by Hasbro that disappoints me since older figures had the separate sculpting going on.  Hell that goes back to POTF2 days.

And lastly...

Well, I already did a review on the Fleet Trooper so nevermind.  Mine now has a hat.  I haven't even opened him because I may just keep him on the card.  I waited since I was like 14 to get a Fleet Trooper.  I'm 34-ish, so 20 years is a long time to wait and get the figure you wanted.

The Vintage Wave 7 though?

It's the best wave the Vintage Collection has had...  Knock figures down by a buck and I'd say it's one of the best waves of figures in the modern line.  I'm maybe a little biased though, but I'm loving every figure in this wave, hands down.

Order Your Own Vintage Wave 7 Case!  It's totally worth it. (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS97568G)

What gets me, and maybe is the neatest thing when i was going over them all, was Bom's wild west look.  I mean he's seriously badass looking.  He reminds you of Clint Eastwood's "Man with no name" so much.  He just needs the hat...  which would be odd because of his bulbous mellon.

Seriously though, best surprise of the wave IMO.

Easily the finest Han Solo figure, ever made, vintage to now...  Seriously.

Amen.  :)

I got one from Paul and one from my first (of two) EE case.  I've got one in the "Bespin intro scene" (Man, we need a ESB Lando upgrade, stat) and I've got a Mynock Hunt mask on the other (his hand makes a nice "I've got a bad feeling" pose with the mask on).  I figure I need about 2-4 more of these - Bespin Dinner Scene, Bespin Torture rack, etc.

Oh, and the rest of the wave is great too. :P  Love the ARC/Fordo and Bom.

After seeing the pics from vakface on facebbok about Logray, we appreciate his primary evolution rests on articulation, cause is teh more posable medicine man from the 3 releases.

The paintjob is a very good update, giving special credit for the selection of colours.
But between potf2 and tvc Logray the bands on arms diminished from 4 to 3
the face of the character is predominently brown, seems they didnt follow strictly the photo
no matter, is an interpretation

when size diminishes they dimish stripes on the body too. In contrast the weapons and pack are better sculpted than ever.

See, I wasn't hyping him!  :)

He really is good...  I wasn't that giddy about a Cantina alien since the POTC Cantina Alien wave that had the cyclops, gotal, and the guy with the things in his nose.  Those 3 were pretty great, and all at the same time?  Tough to fight that.  All 3 were great sculpts though and decoes.  Lacking articulation of today, but their articulation is my "minimum for happiness"...  They set a bar Hasbro had to live up to, in my eyes, on just about every figure other than a Senator-ish figure.

Anyway, they were the best...  Bom's taken the lead though.

Something I want is the launch of Hasbro ultra paint jobs for the figures, not only SA
cause peinting matches the sculpt. Frequently they forget to paint badges, belt buckles, boot soles
dots and stripes on stormies armors, glasses of helmets, etc.

Returning to wave 7

I like Han figure a lot, one accurate detail is the big poket on lower back of his jacket. This is the taller Bespin Han also, so this lets to build new Lukes a bit taller (the new Hoth Snow Speeder pilot, we are waiting for)

In my best Professor Farnsworth imitation: "Good news, everybody!"

A fellow SW collector here in Richmond VA just called me to tell me he found all of TVC Wave 7 at a TARGET!!!

Yes, a TARGET store actually got in new figures!

To me, this is incredibly momentous news, because to my knowledge this is the FIRST confirmed non-TRU brick and mortar sighting anywhere in the US!

It's especially great because there are a lot more Targets around town than TRU's, and they get new stock in nearly EVERY day. LOTS of opportunity (and peg space) to find these over the next few days I am thinking.

We haven't had Wave 7 hit around here at all yet either. Shoot, enough talking, I'm going out to look for toys!

Good hunting!

I checked FYE too and not only did they have no Star Wars toys whatsoever, the guy who worked there had never even heard of FYE selling SW stuff, and could not explain why stores in one state would have a completely different inventory than stores in another state.

Weird.

Our TRU gets their truck tomorrow but I am stuck in ATL still and will be unable to be there when they open, which pretty much means no new figures this week either.

I am coming up empty at Targets too.

He wore that helmet in Season 2, during the attack on Coruscant (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/ARC-77). Scroll down for a picture.

Yup, he goes all Rambo on some droids wearing that bucket.  It was really a whole new level of cool to get two sets of unique looking belts/helmets for a trooper.  Early/Late War looks.  It's an interesting thought for future Clones, especially now that the 3D series is fleshing out how the Clones look earlier in the war compared to their looks in ROTS (or how one may perceive how they'll look).

Title: Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 7
Post by: Jesse James on July 18, 2011, 02:32 AM
I think since 2007 we've been getting pretty outstanding stuff myself...  I don't honestly look at the Vintage Collection being superior to Build-A-Droid, or even 30AC in most cases.  Hell, 30AC was such a collector-whore year that I'll forever favor it more...

Even Legends was aimed at collectors with a laser sight.  A couple figures snuck out with less than stellar articulation (Academy Biggs, the dude with the drum-half), but at the end of that year I didn't think it could get better, and I don't think it really has.  Prices just went up and paint applications got worse...  Articulation is a more standard now, but still, there have been drawbacks I think.  Not to say I'm disappointed with the figures of course...  It's tough to get Hasbro bad marks in a review anymore.  I just think things have been maybe "more fun" to me I guess.

The cards are the nicest ever though...  but I can't say I care enough about the packaging that I'd mind at all if they went to an ugly card, but the price somehow dropped by a buck or something.  I'll take ugly packaging in that case. ;D  Undecoed cardboard and heat-sealed baggies stapled to it would probably work for me even.

Whenever I look at the realistic Hasbro Star Wars line, I think TVC is the uppermost tier of quality we've gotten thus far. TLC/LC cut it close, but nearly all of the figures we're getting in TVC these days are flawless. I personally think that Fordo is perhaps the best action figure sculpt we've ever gotten! And figures are starting to include tons more of accessories.

Then again, maybe Hasbro realized that with the crazy prices we're paying, it's time they upped the game a little.

I don't know about that...  Paint aps are weak, there's small cutbacks like Han's leg strap, or the Fleet Trooper's holster...  Flawless?

BAD was absolutely the same way.  Same articulation count, sculpting I think 99% would agree was just as good, paiint aps between then and now are pretty spot-on with one another, and in some cases I'd argue the BAD were a tad better.  Plus the pack-in was obviously superior to, well, nothing.

2007 was a year so focused on collectors in every way, it's not even funny...  30AC had some figures that were inferior to Vintage, but I'd say the vast majority were as good or even better because paint aps at that time were better and the sculpting was just as good.

It's a matter of opinion, but I'd like to see something clear that says, "This is way better than what we were getting!" from then.

You may hold up the Gammorrean Guard, but I'll hold up Hermi Odle, or basically any of the McQuarrie figures, and say that 2007 was dishing out stuff as good as, if not better.

Much less getting into the fact the price was significantly better...

I think the nostalgia of the packaging has swayed a lot of folks, more than the toys themselves.  Not saying that the VC stuff is bad at all, as it's been pretty good with only minor flaws, but the line's been that way for a while now.  It started in later 2004/2005, and it's really plateaued.  Ball-jointed hips and wrists are cool, but I don't count them as such a significant upgrade to any figure that the entire line is now grossly superior to what we got in the recent past...  plus, things cost more, cool accessories aren't as plentiful, 2-packs are gone, paint aps are down, running changes are out...  I'm just saying there's a lot of things gone that made past figures truly great, and TVC hasn't countered any of that at all IMO.

That's absolutely true. If this were any other line besides TVC, it probably would have been canceled and rebooted a long time ago because of poor sales due to distribution problems.

Yeah...I was honestly all set to quit collecting packaged figures.  I went down to just loose on Deluxe, CW, most Exclusives, ships, etc.  But those vintage cards are just too pretty, so I'm sitting at 2x or more of each.  Whoever decided to return to vintage packaging needs a big fat bonus, Hasbro.

Nope.  I compiled a set of loose and carded Wave 7 figures with numerous trips to Target and Toys 'R' Us.

WM around me was the haven of Vintage till just about now...  With their Wave 6 shipments, they've filled up on ROTS Clones and are now pretty stagnant on new stuff.  Getting ROTS Clones off the pegs and out of the system would do a lot to get WM back into the game.  Even leaving Sandtrooper figures, Wave 1 dingleberries, and Obi-Wans of all flavors would still be ok.  Just the ROTS Clone is enough of a back-up to keep new from getting to WM now.

They've gotten in 3, 4, 5, and 6 in quantity, and all those ROTS Clone carry-overs in those waves really added up.  It's only stagnated in July though, to where they're really not getting nearly as much in, as steadily.

Yeah I didn't think this was widespread so far.  Only two figures, Fordo and Offee, but it was a sighting at least. :)

WM has consistantly gotten cases in though, locally.  A wave here, a wave there...  It was a deluge for a while, but it's slowed to a trickle (for me anyway).  This store had just gotten some six in a couple weeks ago, sold through them all but the ROTS Clone and Endor Rebel, and then I was in this weekend for groceries and they'd had something on pegs, and the Fordo rang up in the checkout which was nice too. :P  With a new wave, that's not always the case, haha.

After watching the databank of Barris on galactichunter, I discovered the good job on the rubber cape and hood. It was a concept almost forgiven on Hasbro figures, since the soft good evolved in high quality cloacks.
Dooku was the last guy with plastic or rubber cape, I wonder if this method could pass to new classic Vader and Obi Wan figures, as a variant, or as possibilities for battle packs.

The neck is too long on Barris, when taking a peek one can thing in ballerina proportions, but is far too long. And the head is slightly looking backwards, like the head position of the white bald tvc rebel commando.

So I was wrangling up some unopened figures last night and I noticed something on a Fleet Trooper I just bought at Target recently...

His helmet seemed a little dingey.

So I decided to compare him to my carded figure I'm keeping from my EE case back when the wave first shipped, and sure enough there's a pretty distinct difference.  I snapped a picture with my iPhone for a story on the front page, but it only shows a slight difference...  Let me assure you though, it's pretty distinctly different in person, and people will be annoyed I think if they compare.

I'm opening the yellowed one anyway and have like a billion extra RFT helmets around as it is.  Also, mine may be an isolated thing, but it's definitely yellow and still on the card.  I was quite surprised since Hasbro said they'd remedied the yellowing issue and we shouldn't see that anymore.  :-\

Me three... I bought one that had a green helmet. Luckily the eraser trick worked to fix the issue, but because of the design of the helmet it was hard to remove the green from the cracks and such. I've since passed on three more RFTs due to the same issue... not to sound pretentious, but if I'm paying nine bucks for a figure it better be perfect. I'm hoping the helmets will be white again when the RFT re-ships with wave 8, because I would like a few more.

I'll say, it's not cheap plastic if it erases off.  It's something in the mold that's leaving that film...  I'd guess it's a release agent.  Akin to pam in a cupcake mold, but for plastics.  It's a common thing, but the discoloring nature of it is not.  It can happen in batches though like this, so I'd guess it's a de-molding material.

If Hasbro was using a cheaper plastic their figures would melt, haha.  They're kind of at the end of their "cheap plastic" rope.

Yeah my EE case RFT is as white a dental whitening commercial's set of "fixed" teeth.  The one I got the other day was not.  Like I said, it's batchey, or so it seems, where one may be and one may not be.

Since I'm opening him anyway, not too irked.  My EE case one is pristine and unpunched, so he's my carded sample as a shrine to what I wanted to finally see done in the modern line after 18 or 19 years or whatever.  THat'll do then.

The yellowing one I'll just take an eraser to, ala the www.HansHideout.com Technique, and voila...  Or maybe he'll get an Honor Guard's helmet instead?  Hmmm.

I finally found this wave (except for Logray), and while Bom Vimdim is particularly fantastic, I'm pretty let down by Bespin Han and the RFT.  The sculpted jacket and vest are just weak--huge steps backward that significantly diminish the quality of the figures.  Drives me nuts...so close to perfect, and no reason to go backwards like this, but they did.  Bummer.

And what's with the removable ammo strap for the RFT?  Why is that necessary?  They give us that worthless extra (that could have been sculpted on just fine), but they can't give the guy a ******* holster?  Lame.

On the bright side, Bom is sweet.

I've been wondering the same thing - I found remnants the other night and all that was left was Han and Bom - not that Barris and Logray aren't also nice figures, but the Bespin Han was the top of my list of most wanted re-dos. I love that figure, I've picked up three to open so far just to put in various "scenes" I have in my ESB display cabinet.

Sounds like what a scalper  would leave behind...so the word "people" doesn't apply.

Why would a scalper leave Bom? Cantina aliens are rarely hot at the time of their release, only later do some appreciate on the aftermarket.

Not sure about Logray...maybe Wicket's scarcity made Ewoks resale gold.

I agree...  I really think the sculpted-on jackets/vests these days are a BIG step back aesthetically.  That now means paint aps, and paint aps usually screw up any good sculpting that was done because they're never perfect.

I miss removable vests and separately sculpted jacket pieces.  That stuff gave not just visual depth, but it was actual physically separate so there was just a higher quality there.  People have overlooked that on these two figures, a lot.  It's as big a step backward as not including thigh-straps on holsters and things.

Some folks disagree, but to me you're paying more and the figures are getting more and more corners cut.  Hasbro shouldn't be doing that.

And totally agree on the leg flares...  I like them, they're weird/neat, but they're such an obscurity.  To be perfectly honest, I feel the same on the hat.  I'd take a holster over either of those accessories being packed in.  You want to make a hat?  Re-release the Honor Guard with a more flexible "skirt" piece to his jacket, and pack a hat in with him.

Plus now that I have that hat, it's got hair sculpted to the back of it, and I don't dig that.  A) it's not painted, B) it's just meh.  Most of those hats didn't seem adjustable like ballcaps anyway, and to me they should've just made it a simple mold.  The Indy German Mechanic's hat is more appropriate, but that's me.

I'm not saying these things ruined the figures for me, but they knocked them down from being "top tier" figures to me.  Han's still the best Han, and the Fleet Trooper is still cool (and I'm picky on this guy as we all know), but the lack of a holster on a character who almost every single one that's given any serious screen time had a holster, is just BS.

Removable vests/coats should just be a given in the line too.  I mean, POTF2 figures had this done right, and it looked great characters like Ponda Baba, or Ceremony Luke.

I miss the seperate vests, too.  It was a great feature on some of the older figures.

But I think the tooling costs for this new Rebel Fleet Trooper were already running to the high side.  There's a significant number of accessories:  helmet, hat, blaster, range finder & ammo strap.  Plus there's all of the articulation.  So in this case it appears that Hasbro made a tradeoff.  Sculpt the vest on and get more value elsewhere.

Still no sign of this wave at any of the big 3 in my area.  I was expecting Target to put them out along with their reset, but all we have are the same Sandtroopers, ROTS Clones, 2 Dengars, and a CCP that we've had since at least January.  Literally the only thing that has disappeared in that time were the yellow helmet ROTS Clones that the Hasbro rep pulled.  Ugh.

I'm probably going to wind up buying two of the Fordo figure (to display in both configurations) when I eventually find him, but was curious as to how easily removable the kama/skirt piece was.  I didn't know if taking it off required ripping the material itself.

Doc P, while I haven't opened my Fordo yet, the pics I've seen online suggest it's a very simple process. The belts both snap on and off (best comparison I can think of is the belt from the original VOTC Luke) while the kama has an elastic band similar to the TVC General Lando cape.

I really don't want to succumb to douchebaggery, but I have to tell you how successful a particularly frowned upon technique was.  I call it the "Secondary Distribution System"  :P , and it works wonders at Target.  Reading about others who have had success, I decided to try it out.  One of my local Targets has had the same figures for who knows how long, with no wave 5, 6 or 7 showing up at all.  I went ahead and bought 10 of the oldest figures (primarily Dengars and 4-LOMs), and returned them to a Target well out of the way while on a mini vacation (now I know there's no real way to be sure you're not screwing another collector at that store you're dumping figures to, but I made SURE there was no one posting here or at RS that are anywhere near that particular location- I'm in southeast Louisiana).  Sure enough, 3 or 4 days later, my store gets in a wave 7 case (which is bought up by me and others), followed by a steady stream of wave 7 cases by need.  I got some more figures there again today.  Moral of the story is that two stagnant stores have been reduced to one.  We're talking no SW figure sales for MONTHS at both stores, and now, one of those stores has a steady stream of sales.  It works.  I don't want to resort to that, but distribution has never been worse, and perhaps Hasbro's figure selection and case breakdown is even a greater culprit.  So, I don't want to condone this (and I don't think I'll have to do it again) but it works.

Yeah, I'm not sure I really get all the uproar about this technique. In most cases, it's not like the store getting the relocated figures were stocking anything new anyway. And if the store you took them from is restocking consistently since then, that seems like a win-win for everyone.

I actually did the opposite - I had a Target near me that was not doing anything with TVC, so I returned a couple of Wave 7 extras I had to there, they promptly sold, and this Target has since gotten 2 full cases of Wave 7. It's like I had to trick their computer into hitting that sold units threshold.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but if you're dumping all the loser figures in another store that's trying to sell through stuff anyway, and the collector(s) in that area are trying to not do that and hoping things just move through natually, then it's not really a "win-win" for anyone at the store you dumped all those figures.

Again, not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying it's only a win-win for you at your store.  At the other store, it's really ****** for anyone who lives near/shops at that one and isn't doing the same thing to you.

Be nice to see retailers take a little initiative to move product on their own though, of course.  Sales seem to be few and far between anymore, yet they're clearly viable ways of moving things, while still making SOME profit, instead of just sitting with your thumb planted firmly up your bung for whatever reason.

My TRU's had literally a dozen or moreo f the new AOTC Clone...  the sale seems to have remedied that.

I think we're thinking of two different scenarios, Jesse. I do see your point, but I think we're not talking about dumping these at the BFE Target in some one horse town 100 miles from noplace. We're talking about dumping them at a Target, for example, that is probably within 20 miles of 5 other Targets.

The collectors in my area all hunt multiple stores, so putting one out of commission would theoretically free up all the other stores to order new inventory, and we all benefit. Hence my "win-win" comment. (But yes, this would require people branching out, which frankly everyone does around me anyway)

The idea being that it is better to have 5 stores with new product and 1 store hopelessly backlogged than to have 6 stores that are completely stagnant altogether.

I agree that in this scenario if some person were to only look for figures at the same store location over and over it would not help them in any way. But in my experience that is not how the SW geeks usually roll. They get around.

I have to say, I am not advocating anything one way or the other - I have never done this mostly due to the hassle and expense. But I don't think I understand how insanely angry some people get about this practice at other sites.

I think it's way worse to see things like that horrific TCW repack case shipping with the Flamethrower clone and a bunch of other garbage that should have been off the pegs months ago. That jams things up just as bad as any shady returns, only without the advantage for a benefit to other stores.

nuff said, I am seeing plenty of Wave 7 now so sort of seems like a moot point anyway, I guess.

I appreciate you guys not being hostile about it  ;), but I'll be the first to admit that it's not really a good practice to get into.  I've done this just once, feel a slight bit of guilt over it, but dang it worked!  Of course I mostly did it so I could get new figures, but I have to admit a big part of it is to benefit all collectors that frequent that store area (it's near the University at which I work).  I want our hobby to be healthy so that it has a long life to come (I always praise the army-builders out there like Darth Anton for this very reason!).  I wonder if a couple of those figures being re-purchsed at the dumping store would spark new case deliveries?

That's a possibility...  And I'm not really being critical, however not EVERYONE rolls like you (or I) roll.  I hit different Targets, but I hit one often because it's close.  Like I said, if you get everything dumped at your store, just so it's convenient for everyone else, you're not winning.  You're actually losing because you're going further.

BFE or on a highway with 3 stores in 40 minute stretch...  The scenario is the same either way.  Someone will have to branch out, regardless.  For some people, they can only hit that close store, often, and can't go hit all 5 stores in their tri-county area or whatever.

Again, I'm not being a dick, just pointing out that you really can't say for certainty whether your'e hurting someone or not.  There's a couple collectors around me because KM always sells out when a new case comes in.  Guys I don't know, never met, and don't know their circumstances.  Could be kids, who only get to KM maybe for all I know.  Just sayin'...  Someone gets the shaft, most likely.

I've taken things back to Target...  Can't say I've strategically moved things around for my benefit, but I do know those who have, and I'm not freaked out over it.  I know if MY nearest Target I visit got a ton dumped at it though, I'd be annoyed, since I don't necessarilly want to go the extra 15 minutes any direction it'll take to get to the next one.

You both have pretty good points here - I'm not sure that there is a right or wrong.  I know guys in my area who move product to other stores to get the replenishment going faster.  I don't think anyone in our group frowns on it, but we have the luxury of 40-50 Targets in the metro, so clogging up a store here or there isn't going to really hurt anyone.

I think if you can find a way to force one store to get new product, then you're helping yourself primarily, but you're actually helping Target to some degree as well.  If they didn't get those new items to the store, you might have eventually bought the figures at Wal-Mart or online.  They'd have the stuff you moved in one store or another, so it's not really a detriment to the retailer overall.  Likewise, if the dumped-on store isn't get anything new anyway, the additional figures aren't really hurting that store.

Not sure I would define it as a win-win for both stores, since the dumped-on store doesn't benefit and like Jesse said, you may be screwing collectors there.  But it is a win-win in that you're getting new figures at your store of choice and Target gets to sell you some product.  Besides, when was the last time you saw basic figures on clearance at Target?  Seems like pretty much anything will sell through eventually.

So, while I don't practice this method (mainly because I'm too time starved/lazy), I also don't fault anyone for doing it.

Walked in to Target today and for the first time since November I found newly-stocked TVC pegs - with the repaint wave (by the condition of the cards, it looks like they'd been in the stockrooms since January)! :-[ So if I'm lucky, and we're in August, another 6 months till I see Wave 7 on shelves? :D
