I wasn't sure exactly how to title this, but I was just curious for those of you who have a vintage collection (or are actively pursuing one), do you have it displayed? I'm still in the process of completing a loose vintage collection (my overall collecting goal for now), but it is something that has gotten put on the backburner recently with losing my job, working part-time, higher prices, other interests, etc. I'm hoping to get back to picking a few more figures up here and there this year, and started thinking about how to display them. Right now, the figures I do have are just baggied and in a rubbermaid box for now. I get them out and look at them every once in awhile, but don't really have them set up and on display.
Ultimately, I'd like to (down the road) have a display similar to some I've seen on here (Scott's comes to mind, and I think there are others) where you have the vintage lineup and then their best-made modern counter parts next to them or opposite them. I've often thought that if I had to pack up all this stuff some day, or sell some off, that if I only had a small display I'd like to have at least that stuff out. The vintage line is what started it all for many of us, and still holds the most nostalgia for me. Anyways, just wondering how many of you have your vintage stuff on display (or if you want to share pics, that's great too).

I have all of mine displayed on a shelf in my room... nothing fancy, just one little shelf to remind me where it all started.
I'd love to steal Scott's "Collect All 92" Idea/display though and buy some sort of case to display all of them standing next to the best modern equivalent. The main reason that I haven't done that yet is that I'm afraid that I'll get it all set up, realize these 92 are all I really need and want to sell the rest of the collection. :-X

I had all mine out for a few months then had to pack them away to stage our house for sale. Once we dump that place and move into a new house, they are definitely going back out, along with all the vehicles, playsets, etc.

I swear I said I was doing that long before Scott ever mentioned it. ;) Of course I modified it by wanting to include the Kubrick versions as well (damn you AT-ST driver)
But that's pretty close to what my plan actually is. I was delayed not insubstantially by the demise of the Bertby shelf from Ikea, but I'll still do something quite similar in time. I expect I'll end up building my own display cases in the end.
Right now though they are indeed displayed and have been for a while. Actually I've always had my stuff out. But the biggest issue I've run into is simply too much stuff to fit it all in the only room (9 x 13) that I have. I think it's an ideal sized room to just display vintage but I've too much modern stuff and other stuff as well (diecast, McFarlane, Simspons, GG, etc.)

I was also contemplating using three of the 'original 12' action figure stands with the X-wing background and putting together three separate collections of the original vintage 12, a set of the 'He-Man' styled early POTF2 counterparts and then the best actual modern versions of those 12 as well. I do want to have a display of the early POTF2 stuff though, hideous as it is.

I do, and you can see it in the collection thread....but I keep it somewhat separated from the modern stuff.

Morgbug, what shelving display are you using to display those? Is that just foam board stacked one on top another?
It's one inch styrofoam cut and glued together. There's about an inch and a half space for width. I just painted it grey (same as shelf) after it was glued.

A custom based on a prototype for a canceled vintage figure. In my opinion, it's the best one out there. Fits right in with the regular vintage line. Here's a photo of the original wax sculpt:

Ryan Shaw did about 20-25 of them a few years ago. I had emailed him about one back when I was in college but was too broke to buy it. A few years later I emailed him again and ask if it was too late and he remembered our exchange and agreed to make one more. He said the molds were no good after that. I don't remember the exact price, but it was worth every penny. The only way to get one would be to find one of the 20 or 25 people who bought them and convince them to part with it.
I also have a pretty awesome vintage-style Sandtrooper from him that you can't really see in the above photos... (he just sent the torso, the rest was up to me) :

It's a thing of beauty. There were also some older ones... he made a Stomrtrooper Han that was pretty cool. There was a Bith that I think was made out of an Imperial Officer... I think he did a Vlix too.

There were people not pleased I guess because of it being a duplicate of a figure that exists, more or less... Some folks were pretty peeved at a replica being made, kind of like how the Rocket Fett annoyed some folks too. He did a Rocket Fett before Hasbro did and some folks weren't happy IIRC.

His Vlix' were numbered & had no peg holes?- can't see a problem with that, but ...... ??? Didn't realise he did a rocket fett like Mark Poon- they are pretty neat. Let's face it not too many people will ever own a real one .

Ryan's Vlix is custom cast from an original Vlix figure. The head, arms & legs move & even has the Copyright on the back leg.
It is numbered & marked Repro with no peg holes.

I don't see what is the big deal...I see crappy custom Vlixes on ebay all the time. Many of them on repro cards too. I would never waste a cent on that shiite, but it doesn't bug me that it is out there.

Maybe "big stink" was a bad wording... Some people were bitching, generally the "If you can't afford one you shouldn't get one at all" crowd. I remember it causing probably more heated debate in customizing circles than probably the vintage world.
I say if you mark it, who cares? But I guess people who own Vlix's maybe feel differently. Fortunately they're so few, I guess their opinion is probably not really important to anyone.
I wanted one of his Rocket Fett's pretty bad but I'm not a big fan of buying customs in general (just not something I'm into), so I figured I'd just live without on that one... It was neat though, I was very tempted at the time. The Hasbro one will more than suffice to me though. I wasn't too particular on the details and intricacy of it... Vlix was never really that on my radar because I'm not into Droids/Ewoks at all.
I still think a modern Vlix ala the Rocket Fett would be a cool idea though, just for the weirdness of it.

Thanks for the history lesson.
I certainly don't see the problem with repos or customs that are obvious and won't get confused with the originals - and with any figure that costs thousands of dollars, repro is the way to go as far as I'm concerned.

Are those wall-mounted? Looks excellent, this is exactly the kind of thing I would be looking to install in the new house, except not in the wood grain finish.
I just wish the nearest IKEA wasn't halfway to DC.

I have one of those too. That is where I keep my vintage figures also. Too bad they don't have that color wood anymore otherwise I would buy a second.

The Bertby is discontinued, so color doesn't matter. You simply can't find it anywhere anymore. Right rather pisser that, I was just about to buy three but they canned them. :-\

Anyone have any tips for reattaching bubbles to cards that both keeps it sealed well and also looks good? I thought glue, but I see the guy who sells all the repo kits on ebay suggests double sided tape.

Great pictures. I have one of those R2-D2 coolers. Unfortunately the head and legs dissolved from being exposed to sunlight. Someday I have to find a new set.

I think the best pic is the one of you as a kid opening that Falcon. I love old photos like that. The magazine covers and photos leading up the stairs look great too.

So...after living in my current house for 5+ years now, I finally decided to do something about those 3 giant plastic bins that have been sitting in my man cave since we moved in here. :P
It's a bit tricky trying to figure out how much shelf space it is going to take to display a complete collection of everything loose, but I am committed now. Already put together the Ewok village and Death Star, and dug out the Shuttle, Rebel Transport and AT-AT. Aside from the Falcon I think those are all the largest pieces. Although some of those Rebel ships are pretty hefty too.
Just figured it was time, stuff was bringing me no joy locked away. Will try to post pics when done.

Please share pics when you get it displayed. I put most of my stuff behind glass, but it takes up more space than you'd think. My Falcon, B-Wing, Rebel Transport, Ewok Village, and most of my Hoth stuff is all on a separate shelf. Maybe this will give you some ideas. I put the figures along with variations and a few customs all along the top, but my hope is to eventually seed the ships with more figures, so they look kind of like the old school pictures on the vintage boxes.

I did finally get everything out, realized the Death Star, AT-AT and Imperial Shuttle are too tall for my shelves so they are lounging in front now, but everything else I was able to get squared away and it looks ok. Now I just have to put all my figures out...

Thanks guys. Still have some work to do on those displays, but I'm getting there. Can't wait to see some other pictures. I always get good ideas from other people's layouts.

Sadly, my vintage figures are all being store in acid-free bags in SW figure cases under my bed. I'd like to build a custom display case with some UV protection glass before breaking them out for display again.
