Saw this earlier today at the otheR site.  It looks like the following lineup:

-Starkiller (cloaked)
-Darth Phobos
-EVO Trooper
-Jump Trooper
-Trooper TBD

I hope this time around Starkiller will actually look like Sam Witwer.

Gotta say I'm more interested in the Commandoes than more TFU...  Their choices for another boxed set seem rather weak ultimately.  The Commandoes are what I was waiting for though, despite having to rebuy something I should ultimately already have and be content with.  :-\

Hasbro's lineup for this box set (and to a lesser extent the RC set) makes it much more transparent that they're trying to keep costs down by repainting existing sculpts.  To that I give a loud and clear "BOOOOOOO!"  Especially since they're re-offering the EVO and Jump troopers AGAIN.  Why not reissue the Shadow Guard if you're going in that direction?  That figure was easily one of the more scarce offerings of the past 5 years.

They are, however, clearly trying to appeal to the video game generation of Star Wars fans.  I think that's an important direction for Hasbro to turn to in an effort to stay relavent.  But the fact that Hasbro has effectively done NOTHING for TFU II shows that they haven't been able to work effectively with LucasArts to market a line of video game based figures.  Is it Hasbro's reaction to getting burned by LucasArts because of the inordinate delays on the original Force Unleashed game, and the resulting delays for the figures they developed for that game?  Possibly.  Video games have been notorious for release delays.  But you would think that with a multi-million dollar licensing deal such as Hasbro has with Lucasfilm that SOMEHOW they would be able to work out the kinks on a release schedule for video game figures.

Yay, the Jump Trooper and Evo Trooper didn't do much for me the first two times. There's something too EU video-gamey about them (those shoulder pads for one), and Evo's elbow suck for two handed weapons poses. Maybe the other trooper is the one they pulled from last year, semi-transparent stormtrooper.

Looks like the Starkiller is this version.

Which is just one of the extra outfits. It's not even in the real game.

These are still figures from the first game, not the second one.

I'll probably get this set if the figures look good.  I'm more interested in getting the Delta squad set though.

I agree with what Jesse said, the set does seem very uninspired. I was shocked to see Darth Phobos in the picture, considering she only appears in the PS2 version! She's not even essential to the game/story. Isn't that outfit that Starkiller is wearing the outfit that he wears at the very end of the game, when he fights Vader and Palpatine?

I will get this set but I must agree that the choices are 'meh". I would have rather had a straight repack of Rahm Kota included that one of the 3 troopers. It's sets like these that make me despise clones. Hasbro has a good bandana tool from Joe that could have been used to make him blind, they could have used that tool and redecoed the eyes blueish white to pull it off without any new tooling to make a figure that fans actually want. Here is the Jinx figure it came with , it does fit Rahm:

I am really surprised they went with Phobos over Karzadan Praxious (I know I spelled it wrong but you know who I mean). Watch the other trooper be the Jetpack trooper from star Tours.

I feel like most of the Force Unleashed releases have been troopers, which is surprising, as they were the least impressive characters in the story. It would be cool to get a young Princess Leia and R2 double pack.

I guess we have to wait until tomorrow for the reveal on the TFU 5-pack.  The back of the package is only going to show us so much at this point.  I'm still a little disappointed by the inclusion of 3 troopers in this set, but that is what it is.  Most of all I want to see this new version of Galen Marek / Starkiller and Darth Phobos.

$34.99 Aug 2011
(http://www.galactichunter.com/absoluteig/gallery.asp?action=viewimage&categoryid=6694&text=&imageid=43133&box=&shownew=) (They have the Battle Over Endor packs shown with a tag saying $24.99!  :P )

Phobos looks a bit cartoony.  :-\

The new troopers look okay.
Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set
Post by: Diddly on July 24, 2011, 02:52 AM
So that means $39.99 by the time it hits shelves. :P

There's a .01% chance I'll pick this up. I liked the set last year that had the droid and other cool characters but there are just too many troopers in this set for my liking. I passed on those things back in 2008 and I'll pass on them again now.

The Phobos looks pretty sick and after playing the game a few days ago I recognized the troopers and they show up pretty frequently... I'm just puzzled about the Starkiller choice. There's so many outfits he wears throughout the game, so I wonder why Hasbro chose the look that he actually didn't wear in the story.
Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set
Post by: LandotheScoundrel on July 24, 2011, 11:08 AM
There's going to be pretty much zero leg articulation with those plastic robes on Starkiller...not sure why they didn't give him softgoods. I mean, they were saving money on this set by including that crappy Evo trooper again.
Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set
Post by: Jesse James on July 24, 2011, 07:46 PM
Yeah I may not buy that set at all...  Phobos looks like an alien from Avatar sort of, the troopers are so unnecessary it's not even funny, and the Star Killer looks ****** to me.  I'm not impressed by it.  I need to cut SW stuff out that sucks, and this is kind of it for me.  This type of stuff can sit.

Republic Commandoes I got locked in at the show, and I like them so I'm ok with that...  This TFU set though, I'm personally kinda glad to just see TFU not in Hasbro's sights anymore.  I hope they make better figure choices with The Old Republic sets they said they're doing though.  There's a game that's going to be character rich, and if they just do a Republic Soldier and keep repainting him in each set, I'll be highly disappointed in stuff like that.

Especially at TRU who rape you for a little extra on the price, every time, by jacking things above the MSRP.

Okay, I take most of this back!

I am pleasantly surprised with this pack.  Thankfully the EVO Trooper is the only reissue here.  The Imperial Naval Commando and Naval Commando Officer are pleasant and welcome surprises.

Looking at a shot like this of Galen Marek & Darth Phobos (http://www.galactichunter.com/absoluteig/gallery.asp?action=viewimage&categoryid=6694&text=&imageid=43135&box=&shownew=), I get the feeling that the plastic cloak pieces are going to limit their mobility.  But pieces like that which are molded instead of softgoods are cheaper to do.  Also, I'd like to see Galen Marek without the cloak just so I can see the likeness.  Hasbro really hasn't been able to capture his likeness well thus far.  I'd like to see if they improved it this time out.

Is it my imagination or do these Navy commandos look a little plump? I mean they look like those plus size stormtroopers that wonder around Comic-Con.
Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set

Why do all of the stormtrooper helmets look like the 1995 POTF2 release?  They are awful.

It's like Hasbro took the last 16 years of progress to the top of a mountain, then went bobsledding down the evolutionary scale back to 1995.

And that's pretty bad, because Hasbro has never really nailed the stormtrooper helmets like they've nailed other figures like the Gamorrean Guard.

The chick was in TFU 1 and the other (at least to me) appear to be a mix from the two games.

Darth Phobos first appeared in the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, voiced by Kari Wahlgren.[8] Phobos was featured in one of the Jedi Temple levels exclusive to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo Wii versions of the game, which were developed by Krome Studios.

From the Star Wars Wiki: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Navy_commando

None of the characters in this set are from The Force Unleashed II - they are all from the first game.

Ouch.

Hopefully there will be a buy one - get one half off sale while these things are in stock. I took advantage of that kind of sale when the last two Force Unleashed sets came out. It allowed me to essentially army build the sets so I could get multiples of the troopers. May have to bite the bullet on at least one set to open and one set to keep MIB, and then hope that a sale comes along...

The Blu-Ray sets with 4 figures are $24.99...so that fifth figure is worth $15 it seems...at least in TRU's mind.

The Blu-Ray sets are all old figures. No new tooling needed at all.  TFU pack is 4 (?) new figures.  5 figures for 39.99 is still only 8.00 a figure, cheaper than TVC.

Then I guess the Revenge of the Jedi Carded figures will be cheaper than previous Vintage because they are all old figures.

I don't buy the tooling costs argument. Not from a huge company like Hasbro. Not even for an exclusive.

Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set
Post by: Pete_Fett on August 4, 2011, 11:19 PM
I think it's a question of exclusive vs. an assortment that is being carried by anyone who wants to order it from Hasbro. So all online retailers have it, all of the brick-and-mortar stores have it, etc... The volume of production and ordering for the BluRay sets is probably much higher than the Force Unleashed set. For the TFU set, I'd be inclined to believe that TRU ordered whatever the Minimum Order Quantity and that's it.

It's like that with everything. I get the clear stands from Marauder Inc. - if you get 25, I think it's like $0.35 a stand, if you get 50 it comes down to $0.30 and if you order 100 it's all the way down to roughly $0.25 a stand. Same thing is true with Star Cases from ProTech, the more you order the cheaper it is per unit.

Hasbro's accounting spreads costs out a bit too...  It's tough to compare exclusives and mainline product because exclusives are shopped around and whoever picks them up picks them up, sometimes they're developed specifically for too, but when it comes to mainline stuff the accounting seems to change a bit...  A wave's costed out across a wave.  I'd assume the BluRay sets are costed out different than an exclusive set too then.

Picked up this set today.  The Naval Trooper & Officer are pretty awesome.  And I like this version of Starkiller.  But Darth Phobos?  I'm REALLY on the fence with her.  It's as if they decided to turn Rystall from Jabba's Palace into a Sith Lord.

Dang, I really thought Phobos would turn out as the cooler figure from this pack, but she's probably the worst! - the detail on her lightsaber is stunning though. Almost looks like real metal.

One reason to pick up the figure were it single-carded. ;)

I think someone on Yakface saw the Republic Commando set swapped out with the figures from the 2006 set too. Ridiculous.

I've seen more of this swapping happening in the last 5 years than I have in all my years of collecting. Pretty much any exclusive set or Battle Pack with an exclusive figure (such as Obi-Wan's hut with the awesome Luke) I've seen swapped out at at least one store. There's one WM here that has had figures torn right out of the bubble... and they continue to hang the empty boxes on the pegs front and center. But employees could care less (and honestly, I don't blame them, I used to work at Target).

Personally any time I see something like that I try to trash the box so that no casual buyers would even thing of touching it, an idea I stole from someone here I believe. My best work was done with that Target exclusive Wedge X-Wing a few years ago, which had the new SA Wedge swapped out with an older one. Stomped that box pretty good. :)

I've been seeing this a lot more since 2008, once all the price increases began.

I see lots of vehicles that have a pack-in missing the pack-in now, and sets like the one that features Cad Bane I've seen missing Bane now since he's the "draw" for that set.

That one though, that's pathetic.

My local KM was routinely getting hit by someone doing figure swapping though, and that really pissed me off to the point I took it to the front desk...  They were actually really cool about it too, and were surprised at someone even thinking about stealing an action figure.  It never even dawned on them that anyone would give a hoot and they just figured they were taking an opened toy back.

To this day (I didn't take this one back, but should) there is a COmmander Cody figure from TCW, but has the Vintage AT-AT Commander stuck in there (no rifle, but completely otherwise).  Go figure.

It's a shame...  If you can't afford to collect, quit collecting.  Don't be a dick.  Buy food instead, and focus less on little plastic men.

This is why I hate to use eBay or a secondary market. This is happening because people are getting top dollar for those exclusive figures, and when you combine the extra they make on the shipping even after they give you a break for multiple purchases they are sitting on a cash cow. Using this approach the seller has no or very little cost, and walks away with close to or sometimes more than the cost of the original item. The only way to stop this is to not buy opened items on the secondary market, but we know that won't happen.

Wow, that set is...mostly awful.  Sandtrooper and Clone Pilot arent worth anything.  The emperor isn't very exciting, but that's not a bad version and he hasn't been available for a while.  I don't get why Asaj and Obi Clone Armor are in there though...I thought those were kind of cool figures and a little more on the rare side.  Maybe the guy had a pang of guilt about returning pure crap on a stick and decided to upgrade the set a little?  I don't get the thinging behind figure exchange, and the figure selection here just proves further that the guy is mentally disturbed

I see this kind of thing all the time. I know of one TRU that at one point had nothing but swaps. I remember even buying one set because it was better than what was in the original packing.

Pre my constant use of the internet to know about all variations ASAP I bought a POTF2 Jabba w/ Han in Carbonite thinking it was a variation only to later find out it was just someone switching out Han's.

Check out the Front page story on the Swapped Figure Pack. what are your thoughts?

That's just brazen.  But then I've been seeing a lot more swapping in the past couple of years, too.  One of my recent favorites was a Geonosis Arena 2-pack where Shaak Ti had been replaced with Willrow Hood.

I think it's a waste of time to get angry over, because usually the stores don't care. And if they do notice, it adds to the (sometimes irrational) animosity that retailers (or their employees) seem to often have for collectors. (Like the dimwits who took a job at TRU ignorant to the fact that, yes, adults collect toys, and yes, they can be as annoying customers as anyone else.)

I think swapping  funny more than anything else, especially the weirdos who put customs in the returned item, like the now legendary Ponda Baba painted as Bossk.

Isn't that the better ROTS evolutions Clone Pilot? I'd considering keeping that over the Evo Trooper.

Since it's theft, I really don't find it "funny" myself...  Generally I don't think things are put back in that are superior to what was taken, and in my experience they don't generally sell either, clogging up more stuff from coming in.  I just look at it as sad more than anything.  Pathetic...  If you're that poor, you should probably just quit collecting and focus on things like food, utilities, and such.

I've found if you give it to management, point it out, it doesn't come back out onto the floor...  It's just sad that you're seeing it more and more now, and it seemed to really spike in 2008 I noticed, and has just continued from there.

I'm not sure I'd consider what's in that pack worth buying and keeping compared to getting the TFU set of figures it should have, but some of the figures are ok ones.  Nothing I'd call rare or even tough to find, but not all POTF2 stuff either I guess.  I just don't see it as good I guess, but that's me.

See I wish my stores got hilarious swaps like those... the best I've ever gotten was a 30AC Assault on the Tantive Battle Pack that had the Stormies and RFTs replaced with POTF2 Ceremony Luke, Han, Obi-Wan and Palpatine. I might still have a pic of that on an old dead cell phone somewhere. But usually we just have figures stolen or packages broken into.

For example, I snapped these pics on a toy run today... the Stormie is at WM and the Hulk is at a TRU across the highway:

I mean, I can't believe this would even be allowed to stay on the shelves, yet there they are, and that's what really ticks me off. Obviously nobody is going to buy this, so why leave it on the pegs? I find it odd that every time I move all of the figures in a certain line onto one peg (to show how empty the pegs are) an employee rushes over to spread them out in less than a minute, while this crap stays on the pegs for weeks on end.

Yeah that's simply theft...  When I was out of school and did retail management, you'd be amazed how much of that type of stuff goes all day long.  Usually a kid too, sadly.  Even dumb stuff...  Cuff links.  Cheap cuff links.  Just goofy **** that kids are just compelled to try and steal.

Yeah - I see this kind of b.s. in my stores too and just like Diddly reports, if you sort the pegs to put the figures on their correct pegs based on assortment, you can literally walk around the aisle and by the time you come back around, an employee will have run over and re-fronted the Clone Wars pegs with Legends figures.  ::)

Slightly off topic but has anyone ever opened a vehicle box to discover something totally different inside?

How'd you resolve it? I'm interested to know how Toys R Us reacted.

I took it back to TRU the next day and explained what happened... much to my surprise, they put up very little fight about returning it.

Obviously, I ran over to TRU at lunch.  Customer Service was very understanding when I told them about the swaperoo and how I wanted an exchange and it was no problem.

I went back and grabbed the second Interceptor (which thankfully was still where I stashed it).  The CS gal had me open it up at the desk to make sure it was the right one and this time it looked to be OK - correct cockpit ball with ejector seat & control stick, correct color wings, correct EVO pilot pack-in.

Thanks again to the major prick out there who decided to screw over TRU.  Nice job, dickwad.  ::)  I really hope that someone from our group runs into one of these notorious swappers so that he gets the punch in the nuts he deserves.  >:(

True, and I'm sure you're not approving...  I just find it very distasteful I guess.  It affects everything ultimately.  It's like cheating on your taxes, or false insurance claims and stuff...  Just meh.

I can't blame the retail employees though, honestly.  They make nothing, and know absolutely nothing about what they're taking back.  To them, they see an opened package and ask if anything's wrong with it, and the person just says no, and they take it back...  One SW figure is the same as the next.

Hell, someone took a Vinty Vader, and replaced it with a candy container thing from the checkout aisle, of Vader, and KM took it back near me...  Pathetic?  Yes.  I pointed it out to them at the counter and they were happy to take it off the floor as a theft.  They were shocked.  To them, it was just a Vader on a card and the guy who returned it lied.  *shrugs*

If you're paid well, I expect a certain level of professionalism...  If you're making $8 or $9 an hour taking back a million different products in a store like WM though, what are you gonna do?  :-\

I'm with you on pretty much all of that Jesse.  Something like the TFU set - who knows what figures are supposed to be in there unless you're a collector or fan?  That said, I do think they could take 15-20 sec to scan the package.  Maybe some guys have expert sealing materials, but you can usually tell when something has been resealed.  Also scan the back of the package, which almost always clearly shows a picture of the figure inside.  I can see someone arguing that the figure was mis-packed or is a variation, but you should be able to tell the difference between a figure and a pez dispenser or a Tatooine hut and a tupperware bowl.  $8 or $9 an hour should still get you that much - this isn't India tech support we're talking about here.   ;)

I don't know...  It's hard to say that because we sort of look at it with rose colored glasses I think...

I mean, I'm sure it varies to by the employee, but I just look and see the "mom" there or the kid...  They probably hate their job, and if they're making more than minimum they're a rarity at the place.  I can't imagine it's hard to make it look sealed too.  I mean, It's just taped so taping over tape and hiding it isn't going to be hard.  I just don't expect much I guess and it's why I rarely go to "Customer Service" because the only service you get is blown off usually.
Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set

I worked at Target for 2 years.  I didn't hate my job...not sure where that comes from?  They teach you that the customer is always right, but I recall pushing back on customers a couple of times when I thought they were trying to screw the system.  Its kind of moot regardless, since retail isn't currently doing anything about it and doesn't seem to care.

Back on topic - I'm curious to know if people bought this and the Rep Squad set, or just one or the other?  I bought this one, but skipped the other....just couldn't bring myself to spend $80 combined.   :-\
Title: Re: 2011 TRU Force Unleashed Box Set

I'm sure there's plenty of nice people who are very helpful and happy they're working where they are, but I just think it's the exception and not the rule...  I worked different jobs in management for two companies right out of school, and in all the years I was with both, I found that the people who were "full time but cut just before 40 so they don't get benefits", and all while making minimum wage or barely above it, were pretty non-schelant about their jobs.

And like I say, I can't blame them...  For minimum wage, should you know the store inside out?  Should you know every item?

I'm sure it's not everyone, but there's also a high turn-over in retail stores too and I'm sure a lot of it is because the job's not really satisfactory for many, and they're looking to get better if they can find it.

I just know when I try dealing with the CS desk at WM, it's like they're all over-medicated.  And I'd say at least 50% of the time I try returning something at Target it's like they feel they're doing me a favor instead of their job, and that I'm getting the cash back from their wallet instead of the drawer.  Kind of annoying, and doesn't seem like they're all that pleased to be there...  There are some bright spots though, for sure.  I've had some very nice people wait on me, but they just haven't been the majority by any means.

So it becomes easy to assume they're maybe not taking the extra care to determine if this trooper belongs in the set, or if that's Darth Rectus or a Pez Dispenser I guess.  :-\

... were pretty non-schelant about their jobs.

It's "nonchalant". Unless they work on the planet Vulcan, then it's non-sehlat. (Uh-oh, making a Trek joke on a SW board is worse than correcting the webmaster's grammar!  :o)

A major reason I hate returning things. Those folks who just buy stuff willy-nilly only to return it because they changed their mind...I can't do that.

Clerk (7 out of 10 times, a hot girl you could never get even if you were rich): "What's wrong with it?"

Me: "[Sweating nervousy] Uh....nothing...I bought it for someone who already had it"

Clerk: "Oh, okay...I'll need this person's phone number, and your signature IN BLOOD."

Me: "My blood or someone else's?"

Clerk: "This blood...[pulls out fully sanitized  commercial contract blood]"

Me: "Uh...maybe I'll keep the item..."

I'm not the webmaster...  not that it's important.  We're not really that anal about spelling around these parts to quote it and point it out either.  ;D

I'm sure WM shoppers will now all be offended by this thread as much as retail employees.

Can't say I run into too many girls at the CSR desks that I'm left fumbling with my words over their beauty, but I can see the situation too.  I do see some cute checkout line girls now and again.  Usually the CS desks I visit are staffed by older people at my Target/WM stores...  It doesn't change their lack of knowledge on anything but simply returning merchandise or calling management over to handle anything worse than that though.

As much as I didn't like TFU2 as much as I liked TFU - I think they need to at least finish the story, obviously Darth Vader does not remain a prisoner of the Rebellion.

I really don't care if it's a game or a book or a graphic novel - something is needed to finish the story. I'd prefer a game, but that's just me.

If they weren't going to release a third chapter then they should have made it where the Dark Side ending was the canon ending, only instead of a perfect Dark Side clone appearing, Vader pulls the same move on you, that Palpatine pulled on Mace Windu ("power, unlimited power"), kills you, Juno and Kota, clearing the way for NONE of those characters to be around in the OT.

I really don't know what else Hasbro could feasibly do with KOTOR.  They've covered most of the principles:

-Darth Revan
-Darth Malak
-Bastila (on the way)

And of course we've also gotten HK-47, HK-50 and Darth Nihilus.

The next logical step (one would think) would be to make a Jedi version of Revan, Carth Onassi, Darth Sion and the Jedi Outcast from KOTOR II.  But the problem there is how do you do Revan or the Outcast?  They're both characters that the game player designs.  And in the case of Revan he hasn't been seen in other media without the Sith mask.  I think a lot of the other characters are great,  but would they make good basic figure releases?  They would probably make for a better boxed set release.

I agree.  I loved both KOTOR & KOTOR II.  But it seems that with THE OLD REPUBLIC they're trying to bring together the fanbase of both KOTOR from a story standpoint, and appeal to the MMORPG fanbase  of GALAXIES.  But there were still some loose ends at the end of both KOTOR games that could bear to get explored.  The whole disappearance of Revan being chief among those.

I would LOVE a KOTOR III, but I think all they're doing is the online game. So basically if you're interested what happens and don't play MMORPGs and/or you don't have a PC, you're **** out of luck.

Bioware did a much better job with the Mass Effect series anyways.
