Whoa, the Padme Maquette seems to have gone through the roof on eBay.

I have been watching the auctions for awhile and they have been around the $162. to $210. mark.

I wanted this set since they were announced, but I was putting them off thinking they would stay around retail price for a while.  I got Yoda as soon as he came out, but had yet to get any others.  A couple of weeks ago I started searching for them and realized that Padme was impossible to find, and that I should probably give up hope of finding them for a reasonable price.  To my surprise I found an auction on ebay that hardly anyone was checking out.  I think it was because the seller titled the auction Clone Wars Maquettes.  Personally I always search for Clone Wars Maquette.  Anyway I won the set of five for $287.00 plus shipping.  They arrived today.   ;D

Nice collection there Jon!  $287 sounds like a pretty decent deal for the lot of them, but I don't seem to recall what they originally retailed for now...  Any idea?  I assume you'll be adding the several new ones that were shown at Toy Fair a few weeks ago too, right?

Definitely a tempting set, but I've got to lay off of those higher end maquette type of collectibles.  I'm already stretched too thin as it is, and delving into a nice looking, but expensive, line like this would probably put me over the edge (with the Mrs. anyway)...   ;)

BTW, I seem to recall some folks discussing a rather incorrect paint scheme on the ARC Trooper there.  Any idea what that was about?  Or have I gotten my facts mixed up...?

Thanks Matt.  I'm not positive what the SRP was, but I believe that Yoda was $49.99 and the other four were $79.99.  Although it seems that Yoda was easy to pick-up in the $35-40 range and the other four varied from $60-80.  Of course Padme went through the roof shortly after her release.  As for the new ones I will probably pick them up as they come out, instead of getting them all in one shot.  Makes it seem cheaper that way.   :)

The error is going around.  Check out this article (http://thejawa.com/nuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=838) with some info from Gentle Giant on the subject.

Very nice pictures Jon and and a great deal for $287.   8)

The error on the Arc Trooper was something I hadn't heard about.  It looks like mine is an error version.  Kind of sucks, because I think I like the correct version more, and I'm not about to try and paint it.   :-\

BTW mine is #754.

Everyone that has posted about these figures (besides that article picture) has had the error version.  The number on my trooper is 1360/2500 so I'm thinking the rare piece is actually a corrected one!!

I've been looking around the web and it seems that toynk (http://www.toynk.com/catalog/star_wars_clone_wars_general_grievous_statue_4217806.htm) has the best price on both Anakin and Grevious when you include the shipping cost of $4.99.

bigbadtoystore (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/toystan.asp?Queryid=pr594) had the same price but shipping was two bucks more (which is not bad).  I've ordered from both places and never had any trouble.

AFX (http://www.shopafx.com/stwacwaansk.html) is actually a buck cheaper on the figure but shipping is $12.99.

Other sites seem to have it at the retail price of $79.99 plus shipping.  I'm not as thrilled about these two as I am about getting Barriss and Luminara but I'm sure I'll order them anyways....damn completist in me :-\.

This place has some great pre-order prices up.  I have never ordered from them before, but know a couple of people that have and they had good things to say.  I'm not sure how much shipping is.

I actually picked up Grevious last week.  I am on the fence about this one.  They could have done so much with the pose but opted for this lame one.  The arms are not attached so you have to do that yourself and I am not so sure that the heavy left arm (with the saber) will stay in the hole forever.  It certainly wasn't a tight fit by any means and I am waiting to see if it will start to slip out.  It does look cool with the other figures but I wish they would have used a more "dynamic" pose.  I'll take some pictures this weekend and post.

Well,  my Bariss Offee and Luminari Unduli (spelling is probably off) have shipped from sws.com.  I forgot I even ordered this one from them.  I sure paid way more than I would have elsewhere but at least it is on it's way.  I still have to order Anakin from someplace.  I'll post pictures with a review this weekend (if it arrives by Friday like Fedex states).

Wow...just unpacked my figure last night and it is by far the best of the bunch!  This thing is much larger than the other ones released and the detailing on the facial paint is fantastic.  I'll have pictures posted tonight and drop a line in here when I do.  It was well worth the extra cash I ended up paying and now I have to track down an Anakin to make this collection complete.

Sites not updated but should be soon, they list this thing as 2 feet tall!  :o

So is this all the maquettes so far:

Assajj Ventress
General Obi-Wan
ARC Trooper
Yoda
Padme
General Grevious
Anakin
Luminaria and Barriss (sp?)

Not counting the two foot tall Yoda, of course. Is that all? Are there any plans for more at this point? The only one I'm missing is the stupid Padme, since they changed it to an exclusive and I didn't know until it was too late >:(

I was wondering the same thing about this line.  I haven't read anywhere that they are doing more.  I really have to order Anakin before it is too late.

PS:  I never knew Padme was an exclusive??!!  I think I ordered mine from starwarsshop.com so I assume that was the only place to get it?

Yeah, I know.... she sat at my house for a few weeks before I shipped it out. I should have told you it was broken and just kept it  :P

Originally, Padme was solicited just like all the others, through Diamond Comics and GG direct. Somewhere along the way, it was changed over to a SWS.com exclusive. A buddy of mine owns a comic shop, and gets me all my GG stuff, and I had no idea they had switched it over to an exclusive. Then one day I find out AFTER it had sold  out and started shipping, and was too late. No way I'm paying $500 for it on ebay now.

As of last month I completed this line with the purchase of the Padme for $375. I think this is my favorite line outside of the 3 3/4 stuff from Hasbro. I did preorder the to scale animated Yoda before the confusion about the pricing. I hope the price doesn't change to over $1000 but I have a feeling it will. If that's the case I will not be ordering it.

Just received and opened my Anakin maquette and he does NOT fit in his stand.  There is no way to get those pegs in his feet in the holes in the stand, no matter which way I turn it.  It is such a noticable difference in the peg alignment to the base holes, I can't believe that this even made it out the door of the factory!!
I already sent Joel an email at BBTS and am hoping for a replacement.  This bites... >:(

Today I tried one more time and finally was able to force the legs inward enough to get them in the pegs.  I have no clue how to explain  how it finally worked but it did.  Anakin will never come out of his base, I can assure you that!!  I am just hoping that he doesn't crack or anything over time.  Jay (my husband) thinks Anakin just needed to warm up a bit and maybe he's right (of course, I will never tell him that  ;) ).

I received an e-mail from Comics Infinity, my Barriss and Luminara Maquette has shipped.  8)

This is my favorite one.  It was more than the rest of them (at original retail) but is well worth the price.  The post is perfect, I can still picture the cartoon scene right before the attack, everytime I look at them.

Interesting Classic Trilogy animated statues done in scale with the Clone Wars maquettes.

For some reason, I really like these too.  Kind of a neat idea.  I've always thought I wouldn't mind seeing a Clone Wars-style cartoon set in the OT times, and this is a great example of what the characters could look like.  It depends on the price, but I wouldn't mind being able to pick some of these up.  The Leia/R2 statue looks good, and I'd be anxious to see a Han/Chewie one as well in the future.

Taunting bastards >:(

Sorry, I didn't realize it was just a single picture. I'd mistakenly interpreted it as meaning something by Jesse placing them side by side when in fact it's just a damn picture doing what you indicated Jeff.

I'm not overly disappointed to not have the Padme maquette anyway, other than for possibly selling it for big $$ ::)  But I was curious if they were going to really irritate people and re-release it.

I think the only one I may buy is the Leia/R2.  Those pictures of Vader and Boba don't do that much for me.  Maybe if Jared had taken the pictures I'd be more interested ::)

According to the info GG posted yesterday, Boba Fett should be the first one and he will be released in the fall (September 2006).  Vader and Leia will follow after that...

One of each, please!

I had skipped the CW maquettes, but will buy a few of the second series while the prices are still retail. I hope to see a lot more OT characters done animated style, especially Han & Chewie.

These are very cool (especially Leia and Fett) but space is definitely an issue for me right now.

Kudos to LF for letting GG go ahead with these animated OT statues.

After seeing the OTC Animated statues coming out this year I decided to collect a few of the other still avaliable at reasonable prices on Ebay.
I think I'll only bother with these ones until the new ones are released as I'm not too keen on the Barriss Offee & Luminara Maquette and the others are out of my price range as my priority at the minute is the Sideshow statues and GG busts.

I'm waiting on talesofwonder.com  They have the Boba up for only $63.99 and I've ordered a couple of times from them before.  Also have $5 of shipping on your first order.  Leia isn't up yet, but if you order over $99, shipping is free.  Otherwise shipping is around $10.  Hopefully they'll put Leia up shortly and I'll order both with free shipping.

I'm awfully tempted by these, but they are what is usually out of my price range.  I might have to figure out a way to justify purchasing these, they just look pretty cool.  Also, just wanted to note, I picked up the latest issue of ToyFare (with the Leia/R2 on the cover), and there is a small blurb within an article on them that says they are also doing a Lord of the Rings line in this style.  They picture Saruman, and I'm sure we'll see more at Comic Con.  Kind of neat.

Did you notice that the article also had a picture of the drawn design for a Stormtrooper or Clone trooper?  I couldn't tell which one it was, but it's in the background of the picture with the production Leia sculpt.  I don't have any of these, but a Stormtrooper or Clone trooper would be a must have  ;)

You really cant tell is its a Clonetrooper or a Stormtrooper. But i think they were telling us it's a stormtrooper without actually confirming it.

I have all of the classic ones on pre-order and cannot wait for them. A little back tracking still to be done on the clone wars line, but not too much. I don't want them all.

How big are these things?  Where would I display them?

Post by: Morgbug on July 21, 2006, 10:54 AM
Thanks for the clarification Scott.  No way is wifey going to be pleased about a life size version of that  :P so no sense contemplating cost anyway ;)

Same deal here, love the looks of these things, but where to put them?  I have Leia ordered and will get 3PO as I mentioned above, but I've been waffling on Vader and Boba.  They both look great, but where to put them and why do I need them?  I don't know the size either and haven't seen any pictures to give them context.  Plus I have multiple busts from Gentle Giant, so I'm not sure I want to drift into more of this stuff really.   :-\
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Brian on July 21, 2006, 11:16 AM
I really like these as well, but have the same issues as you guys - cost and space.  I know if I got one, I'd want all of them (the OT ones anyways), and I really don't have anywhere to put them now as it is.  I would probably need to do some new shelving/display case or something.  Plus, the price was always a little out of range - especially with Leia, Vader, and Boba all shipping in a 2-3 month span.  I had them all preordered, then told the Mrs. about it, and they are now cancelled :).  It would have been a little too pricey anyways, especially with Christmas around that time as well.  It would be sweet to have a whole display of these though.  I just don't know if I can branch off into something else like this - I'm having the same problem with the Sideshow 12" line.  If/when they make a Han/Chewie setup for these though, I'm on board.  And then I'll regret not getting the first few ;).

I did actually re-preorder the Leia, and we'll see if I can leave that or not.  It just seems like it might be one of the harder ones to pick up down the road, although the edition size is much better than the Padme.  As far a size, according to Gentle Giant's site they are 1/6 scale and they list the Leia as 6" tall, Fett as 8.5" tall, and Vader at 9.5" tall.

As Master Yoda said "Control! Control! You must learn control!"  ;D

I'm also super disappointed (yet financially relieved) by the Stormtrooper. The pose does nothing for me and I think the helmet / eyes look a little too wonky. Maybe they'll take a cue from the bust line and do a couple of poses on different Stormie statues?

I'm checking through the boards and realize that there is no thread for Gentle Giant Clone Wars or Animated Maquettes!  Can that be for real???  I figured I was obligated to start one as their absence should just be illegal.  I started collecting these about one year ago, and can say that I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on each of the original Clone Wars maquettes, including the coveted 'Snow Bunny' Padme.  I have since turned my attention to trying to acquire PROMO versions, but this is really taking a toll on my pocketbook.  I can't say enough about the shear sweetness of these bad boys.  What do y'all think?

Naw, it exists, it's just cleverly hidden away is all. (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=11740.0)  All things clone wars are in the clone wars forum, but that's much less obvious than it was even a couple of months ago, now that it's tucked away inside the Saga area.  I can certainly see how it would be missed.

Wouldnt it make more sense to move the clone wars maquettes thread here? I've seen several people make the mistake of posting about them somewhere else because they can't find the thread :-\
Surely it would make more sense to have it in the other collectibles section?

The other Maquette thread is now in this section.  ;)

Boy this B & W Fett is going to be a bugger to get, I wonder if RoBBy.jp or HLJ will carry him.  :-\

Sorry, didn't answer that question.  My general impression is that no one has any information on this, at this point.  It's been strange, for sure, considering Boba Fett has already been listed, sold out and has arrived at the customers door in Japan, yet hasn't gone for sale in North America.  I don't even know if it's been confirmed that GG's website (heaven help us all) will be the location for the sale, or another retailer.  It would be nice to know.

There are some reports of breakage on Fett's cape from the black and white editions so be wary if you're chasing that.  Also something to check quickly on the colour versions as well.

Just wondering if they'll follow the same trend with a Vader and subsequent releases.  If so, Vader should go on sale around the 14th or so.

I agree, they just don't hold any appeal for me.  The big appeal to the maquettes was the unique look including the bright colours.

I picked up the Leia/R2 Maquette this morning. Yet another great statue!

Totally agree on the Black/White versions. I will not shell out $500 each just because of the edition size. I think they're pretty bland compared to the color versions.

Ray, how much was the Leia/R2?

I paid $80 (retail). Appearantly they're getting pretty severely allocated on this statue too so the dealers seem pretty solid on the price. Most of the dealers are only getting 1 or 2 of the 20 or so that they ordered. Didn't think this would too hard to get given the 8500 run... There was only one dealer that had them at Frank's, the rest either didn't get theirs yet or had sold out.

In general, I agree with these statements.  The black and white versions are somehow off to some degree.  They just aren't as vibrant as the colour versions.  But when you see them in person, that feeling fades just a little.  I'm not sure it will be quite so with Leia/R2 and a b/w Vader is going to be kind of silly when they release it, considering the main version is mostly black too.

In fact, having opened this and taken a couple of photos, I'm genuinely turning into a fan of it.  I think Boba does well in black and white.  I've not taken the styrofoam blocking off him because he'll be going into storage for a while now, so no sense unpacking.  My friend in Japan that helped me with this has indicated he knows of at least five that have had breakage issues, predominantly with the cape.  That should apply to the colour versions as well, so watch out for that.

FWIW the price on blister.jp after shipping puts these things at around $100 USD so they are more expensive than their colour counterparts...  Sizewise, if you haven't seen them yet, they're roughly the same size as a bust in terms of space required and around the same height, so pretty small.  As I don't own any of the Clone Wars maquettes these seem smaller than expected, but I am pleased with the size and that they'll require less display space.

Post by: bamaker on November 9, 2006, 07:36 PM
I posted this over at GH, put I'll post it here too...

When the OT animated maquettes were first revealed by GG, that was the most excited I'd been about a Star Wars product in a very long time. I couldn't wait to start collecting this line (especially since I'm quickly losing interest in all Hasbro has to offer, but that's another thread). Anyway, I ordered the GG Animated Boba Fett Maquette through Entertainment Earth, placing the order way back on 6/10/06. They're a little pricey, but I've used them before without any problems.

I got a confirmation email from EE on 10/30 saying my Boba Fett had been shipped. The package arrived on 11/2. I thought the box on my porch seemed a little thin, but didn't worry too much. I wasn't able to open the shipping box until the next day. When I did, I found not my Boba Fett maquette inside but rather a framed film-cell from the movie Serenity and an invoice for some guy that lives in Connecticut. WTF! I live in Texas!

I checked the box again, and the shipping label had my information on it, but the items inside all coincided with the invoice inside. So my shipping label got put on some other guy's box, and I'm sure my Boba Fett is somewhere in CT.

Anyway, I sent an email to customer service, and received a reply that I needed to call them. I did that this a.m., and was told that they're all out of Boba Fetts and that they would refund my $$ as soon as I returned the film cell. I told the rep. (she was very helpful) that was unacceptable; I wanted my refund now. I will return the film cell, but I believe EE should refund my $$ simply due to their error -- I ordered a Boba Fett, my cc was charged for a Boba Fett, they no longer have any Boba Fetts, so give me back my money. After that very simple explanation, she emailed me a claim form that I have to mail back (well that's gonna cost me another $.39) to process the refund.

I had all the other maquettes on pre-order with EE, but this experience, coupled with their higher prices, finally convinced me to switch all my preorders over to RazorsEdge today. As soon as I get my refund I'll be cancelling all my orders with EE.

But now I'm left scrambling trying to find a Boba Fett maquette. RazorsEdge wasn't offering them anymore. I'll probably just end up using eBay, unless anybody else has a suggestion. Hmmm? Any help?

One other thing: I received an email from Northsidecollectibles.com that their shipment of Leia/R2 maquettes was delayed due to issues at Gentle Giant.  Perhaps the same thing happened with toynk.com.

I have to say, I've had nothing but good luck with talesofwonder.com.  Always shipped fast, well packed and never a cancelled order.

Strange.  I put my order in through my comic shop (Diamond distribution), and I got my Leia with R2 this past Wednesday.

But then Diamond may have dropped the ball on the Boba Fett.  I heard that they were sold out on the pre-orders for the Boba Fett maquette.

As for the rest of this line?  I'm giving up on it after my current pre-orders are fulfilled.  I'm ordered up through the Stormtrooper and after that there's got to be a damn good offering from this line for me to buy anything beyond that.  Hell, I don't really like the Luke all that much and I may just sell that one off.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Morgbug on November 14, 2006, 11:28 PM
I agree entirely Nick; I didn't even order the Luke at all and the Stormtrooper isn't nearly as well executed as I think it could be.  I think there's potential in the line still though:

OT Ben with hood up
Han Solo
Chewbacca
Jabba w/Salacious crumb
Emperor
Jedi Luke (or Death Star version from 1st movie with blaster)
Tusken Raider

Essentially the usual cast of characters.  I've really liked when they have combined two figures (Leia/R2; 3PO/Jawa) so I think it would be neat if they'd combine Han and Chewie.  I imagine that one would have to be a bit pricier, but I'd consider that acceptable personally.  I wouldn't buy all that I listed above but I would pick up a couple for sure depending on how they looked.  The fanboy in me would love to see Jabba with a Slave Leia. :P

What I do hope is they spread out the releases more.  This fast and furious release schedule feels a bit Hasbro-esque, like they're trying to tap the license as much as they can, as soon as they can.

I'm not overly surprised that Boba might be oversold.  I dragged my feet on it and ordered quite late.  I was pleased to find one at BBTS at all and a little surprised when I got the email asking me to pay for it.  Even more surprised (and pleased) when I got the shipping notice with tracking number.  My guess is certain retailers might have oversold more than anything else, as per your suggestion.  I've ordered every piece except Fett from TalesofWonder.com and when I went back to order the Fett from them they no longer had it listed and that was maybe three weeks after initially putting it up for pre-order.

As mentioned above my Leia/R2 has already arrived and my local comic shop is suggesting he's getting his Fetts this week too (Diamond).  We'll see if that happens.  He's a good guy, but he got screwed by Diamond on the ROTS Vader bust of all things, so something even more rare makes me nervous to order from him.

I understand entirely, but I was talking with my buddy in Japan (he and therefore I both missed out on the Vader b/w, which sold out considerably faster than Fett or Leia did) and there's a different appreciation in Japan for the b/w stuff.  According to him and considering he's Japanese, he should have a far better grip on the situation than I, there's an artistic appeal in the b/w versions that is more appealing to that culture than are the colored versions.  Different strokes and all that.  Many of them end up on ebay of course, but it seems many are still staying in Japan even when sold on ebay.  It's a cultural thingy.

Usually I've got to have anything Vader-related, but I think I'm going to pass on this one.  I really like the 'animated' style, but his pose is just so bland -- if it was an action pose like Fett, maybe I would have gone for it.

That being said, I've only ever seen pics of this, it may look a hell of a lot better in person.

While these are really cool, I just don't have the room (or funds) for statues.

In regards to the B&W versions, at first I thought they were just "double dipping," but after examining the Vader one, I've come to like them - how cool is that white lightsaber with translucent blade?

I picked up the Boba for $60, which is a nice piece, but happy I am not a completeist, these B&W versions with really low production numbers would be a real bite in the wallet to keep up with.

I recently received a B&W Leia and was devastated to find that her blaster barrell was bent posteriorly at about a 30degree angle.  A quick Google search under 'polystone' and 'repair' revealed a few helpful sites.  With the newly found information from those, I made the leap of taking a blow dryer at a medium setting to Leia's blaster.  After gingerly heating on all sides for a total of about 20 seconds, I carefully applied tangential pressure to the barrel while supporting its length every so carefully.  I then repeated this process two or three times more.  Now Leia has an (almost) perfectly straight blaster with apparently no ill effects.  Just thought I'd pass on the tip, if anyone else finds themselves in the same predicament.

I received two Ikea Detlof glass display cabinets for X-mas and am planning on showcasing my animated maquette collection in them.  They were a pain to put together, but the aesthetic effect is very nice and the quality cannot be beat for twice the price.  The Detloff glass shelving does seem sturdy, but I guess I'm concerned that one of the top shelves will break leading to financial and emotional destruction below.  Ikea web-site says these will hold up to 13 pounds, and that seems a tad wimpy for two to three maquettes per shelf.  Does anyone have any experience with these?  I am considering reinforcing the glass shelving although usure how to accomplish that.

THe maquettes are light INHO. I have these three on one top glass shelf and have had no issues to date (knock on wood).

I have two of these curios already and will be purchasing one more in the near future. They are A+ in my eyes.

I have seen many people, and have done this myself, put 4 to 5 maquettes per shelf with no problem. I wouldn't worry about just a few maquettes....now some statues like the Vader or Chewbacca I am not sure off.

I broke down and ordered a Boba Fett from New Force Comics a few weeks ago and it arrived today.  I absolutely love this piece.  The only drawback was that one of his braids (the blonde one) had broken off somewhere along the lines.  It wasn't any fault of NFC and probably happened in transit, but still...  :'(

Anyone know of a good adhesive to "fix" this break that won't leave a mess or damage the piece's appearance?

You could use liquid super glue. Just apply a little dab and hold in place with some pressure. I've fixed a could of pieces this way. I would try to exchange it with NFC first though. I would imagine they have some kind of exchange or something for damaged products.

We posted that news 10 days ago in this article at The Jawa.com (http://thejawa.com/nuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2240).  It's slated to be the last piece in the Clone Wars animated maquette line and it's going to be a Star Wars Shop exclusive.

And yeah, like Nick said, all the info I've heard says he will show up as StarWarsShop exclusive...
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Nicklab on February 20, 2007, 12:43 PM
And the fact that it's a Star Wars Shop exclusive could be VERY significant in the long run.  The last SWS exclusive Clone Wars animated maquette was the Snowbunny Padme which has just exploded in price on the secondary market.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Morgbug on February 20, 2007, 01:16 PM
Maybe, maybe not.  It's a combination of edition size and desirability.  Padme was only 1000 pieces and the fanboys went nutty because as silly as it sounds to say it, the maquette was hot.  Mace is definitely not going to have the latter quality going for it and there didn't seem to be the same general love of Mace's character in Clone Wars or the movies.  Padme snowbunny?  No brainer.  Perpetually crusty Mace Windu?  Not so much.

A limited edition size is the key, but even at 1000 pieces I'd be surprised to see his value top $300.  Ever.

If I'd known I was the controlling factor I would have shipped her long ago.  Actually, I would have shipped her long ago if not for the damn post office rules about liquor boxes ::)  That and the car accident.

Funny, I'm skipping the Luke and getting the stormie.  I think the former is going to be easier to pick up cheaper on ebay.  Actually I'm mostly regretting all my preorders as these have been almost all cheaper after the fact.

Are there pictures of Yoda/R2 out there?  I'm not really sure I want another statue with R2 in it but I'd have to see it to make the call.  I do think these are great pieces and I'm wondering how many exclusives Gentle Giant will put out at CIV?  Anything in this line?

Obi-Wan Kenobi (similar pose to Vader)
Luke Tatooine

Being a nostalgic wonderboy, I can't resist these. Though I do admit, I do not like the Luke as much.

But in reality, I would not like to see a bunch of Lukes come out. Just one per. To make it a nice collection in my eyes.

I would not mind a Snowtrooper though !
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda

Thanks Scott :D   I'll probably end up getting it, it looks pretty neat.  It's pretty darn small though, comparing size with the bustup to the right.  Hope they reduce the price accordingly.

I expect to cave on the Han/Chewie as well.

I'm not sure what else I'd like to see.  I think a Ben would be great, especially with a hood up version.  But I'll start passing on some pretty quickly if they keep coming out at this rate.  I don't think Lando would appeal but I could do with a better Luke, maybe Tatooine, maybe Jedi.

Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda

I think if there was one "high end" line I could get into, these would be it.  I just like the animated style of these, and like Scott mentioned, it would be nice to have the VOTC lineup represented this way.  At their price, I don't know if I can sell the Mrs. on them though.  It also depends how many there are each year, if I could keep up.  Hopefully they won't be another line that is impossible to find after they are released (at least to find at regular price).  Once the Han/Chewie ones get closer to release, they'll be awfully hard to pass up.  I like that Yoda/R2 set up as well - is that one exclusive to somewhere?  I thought I had heard that before.  For those of you who have the initial offerings of this line, what do you think of them?  Are they worth the pricetag?

For those of you who have the initial offerings of this line, what do you think of them?  Are they worth the pricetag?

I really think they're worth the pricetag, but do some shopping around to get the best deal.  I had the first 5 maquettes on pre-order with EE for something like $79.99 per piece.  After talking to some other collectors that turned me onto razorsedgecollectibles.com, I was able to get them for $64.99 per piece, and quickly cancelled my orders with EE.   I've been extremely pleased with each maquette (with Boba Fett still being the best and most dynamic).  Sure they can now be had for cheaper than retail on eBay (except for the Black&White variants), but we all know that eBay's a crapshoot.  These maquettes do have a lot of delicate features, i.e., the wookie braids on Boba Fett, that can snap off pretty easily, and if the maquette arrives broken, I appreciate the peace of mind knowing that I purchased from a reputable retailer rather the some Joe Blow off eBay.

I didn't bite on the Clone Wars maquettes (no regrets except that I could've resold some of them to pay for several more OT maquettes that will hopefully be produced later on), but I couldn't resist the OT pieces.  For the old school trilogy fans these are a real treat.  I'm even moving away from the Hasbro-centric mindset and starting to pick up more of these high-end collectibles and I think in the long run I'll be more satisfied with my collection.  If you're on the fence, I'd say pick one up and see if you like it (I'd recommend the Fett), as the first three can each be had for under $50 with some work on eBay.

I'm already in.

Boba Fett raffle runs this week.

Leia/R2 runs the following week.

Vader runs the week after that.

The raffle approach was what was the rumour over at Scum and so it appears to the way the club will go.  I guess they'll approach the same way as this for the busts also.  I'm only really looking for the B/W Vader out of this bunch, so if anyone in the club wins that and would prefer one of the others, assuming I win one, I'll trade it.

I'm not overly fond of the raffle, but it has more appeal than random, unannounced online sales as they did for the Shocktrooper bust and Mara Jade bust.  Or at least that's the way I feel about it right now.  Ask me again in November and we'll see how many times I've been successful ;)

Any sources for pre-orders on promotional AP versions of these maquettes?

I'd always sort of assumed it was a crap shoot to get AP versions.  Am I mistaken to think the first 10 or so are usually APs and the rest are just sequentially numbered from there?

I guess my answer means you're on a whole other level of collecting from where I am.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: gasman034 on March 5, 2007, 12:05 PM
I believe 50 AP (or 'promo' or 'proof') examples were produced for each maquette.  I got into collecting these because I've found the paint applications to be superior in the promo versions.  The limited number produced just makes them that much more collectible in my opinion.  I need only an Asajj and Padme promos to be complete, but I wanted to get a head start on the Yoda on Kybuck and Windu.

You'll have to post your opinion of Luke.  That's the only one I passed on as opposed to the stormtrooper that you passed on.  I do really like them, no doubt about it.  If I can manage to get hold of the b/w Vader it would mean absolutely the only one missing is the Luke, so I may have to track it down.

Were sorry, your entry into the raffle for the chance to purchase Animated Princess Leia Black & White Maquette was not chosen. If you have any questions regarding the raffle please send an email to customer service.

0 for 2 now.

I wonder if anyone is 2 for 2.

Thirdsies.  Call me '0-fer' ::)

I guess I'll wander over to 'Scum and check and see what sort of duplication there is.  I'd not be surprised if GG managed to **** this up so the same people keep winning.  Not on purpose, just another glitch in their system.

That said, still not concerned about winning this week anyway as I have a b/w Leia/R2 already, so relative to Karma, this is good.  Next week I need to win because I don't have a Vader :-\

This one doesn't look right in B&W. I admit there was something interesting with the Fett and Vader, and perhaps even the Leia, but this one doesnt work for me.

Speaking of the B&W's i just got the Darth Vader lottery e-mail. I entered it.

Ditto.   ;D  Thankfully this was the only one I really wanted to win and actually needed to win.  My buddy in Japan has been good enough to get me both the Boba Fett and Leia/R2 maquettes previously from Blister but didn't get a Vader for me.  I was only hoping to win one of the others as potential trade bait for the Vader should I not win it.  But I did, so the world is one damn rosy place right now.

On top of that, my buddy also picked me up the b/w C3PO/Jawa statue as well, so I'm 4/4 on those.  I think I'd actually really like to get a b/w Luke (assuming they do one) because I passed on the color version.  I presume they'll do a monochrome stormtrooper, but I'm unsure if it'll be different enough for me to really want.  I guess maybe from a completeist sense which is probably my motivation for wanting Vader too, as it's not dramatically different from the original, aside from the saber color.

Just received the Padme promo maquette.  To me, this is the holy grail of Star Wars collectibles and it took me forever to obtain it at a 'reasonable' price.  I am excited because this means I'm one step closer to the complete promo collection.  I only require Yoda (almost forgot about him) and Asajj now.  Drop me a PM if any of you have one or the other that you're looking to unload to a weary but thankful collector.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda

So... I am new to collecting anything other than the Hasbro 3.75" line.

I've been enjoying these animated OT maquettes.  So far I have all through Luke Pilot.

Now I see that the Yoda and R2 is an exclusive to the cons, and will only be an edition size of 2500.  Have to say, this pretty much completely kills the enthusiasm I had for this line.  I had hoped they wouldn't be pulling this exclusive crap with this line.

I don't understand why they think it's a good idea to make pieces that many people will not be able to obtain (without paying large amounts of moeny to third parties).  The only possible benefit I can see is if it makes the line appear "hotter" and that attracts people?  As I said, I have the exact opposite reaction.  Just makes me know that I will never have the whole collection so what's the point of buying any of the weaker statues?

Am I strange?  Does it not have this effect on other people?  Or do people just have enough money that they will buy it on eBay?

Any guesses as to what one of these will be worth on eBay?  I don't think I will be at any of the cons...

I really just wish they would make merchandise to sell it to fans, rather than pandering to people looking for an investment, or buying things just because they are rare and not eveyone can have it.  :(

Can someone explain this to me?

I'm thinking of cancelling the Stortrooper and only ordering the ones that jump out at me as very cool in the future.  Screw Gentle Giant.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Scott on April 7, 2007, 09:53 AM
I believe Han and Chewbacca were shown at Toy Fair (no pics allowed though)

As far as Yoda/R2 I'd guess around $100 on eBay and I really don't get why they do these popular exclusives either.  I'd be more mad at the Clone Commander Mini Busts than the Yoda/R2 maquette

Still not sold on the Stormie, I'll probably bite just for the sake of completeness

Holy hell!  :o

Classic Animation Boba Fett Maquette a Celebration Exclusive (http://www.starwars.com/collecting/shop/shopnews/news20070411.html)

Quote
This StarWarsShop Celebration convention exclusive, which will have an edition size of just 1,000, sports Fett's color scheme as he appeared in the Droids animated series from the '80s (actually, the colors were modeled after Kenner's action figure cardback artwork -- see pic). This convention-exclusive is a great way to celebrate Fett's legacy to both the Star Wars films and to the animated series they inspired.

StarWarsShop plans to offer approximately 700 of the 1,000 edition size at Star Wars Celebration IV in the US. While Gentle Giant will not be exhibiting, the the remaining quantity will be offered up at Star Wars Celebration Europe. Details on that distribution will be announced as Cel-Europe draws closer.

This isn't a GG exclusive though, is it?  The way I read it is that it's an exclusive to starwarsshop.

Yes, it's a GG product, but technically we can't blame them for bringing it to the show.

Darth Malak Bust
Commander Gree Bust
Holo Yoda Bust
R2/Yoda maquette
Luke/Han bustups

and
Animated Fett maquette

So six items at C-IV, but only five of those are at the GG booth if I read it correctly.  the comments on GGs blog are mildly entertaining (https://www.gentlegiantltd.com/blog/2007/4/62/star-wars-animated-boba-fett-classic-animation-maquette) :P

I'm guessing that starwarsshop.com will have a separate booth inside the display hall that's NOT associated with the general mayhem of the "store" where you will be buying these.  Throwing them into the general system would mean they'll be gone before any of the general public even gets into the store.  Wait, why wouldn't that surprise me?

I personally don't get it. Animated ... To me that brings to mind colorful images... Not B&W.

If i am lucky to get the Droids Boba Fett, which i think is great, i would like to get the B&W Boba Fett.

Pass on all these B/W versions, I have little room left as it is, so I really dont need to double up on these, So far though it seems only the OT ones are getting the BW treatment, I wonder if the new Yoda and Rorron will also get the BW treatment?
I also got my Stormtrooper yesterday, this is one of those that are better in person than the pictures suggest. I was abit surprised to find it had a gloss finish as opposed to the matt finish the others have.

I think they're keeping the black & white treatment exclusive to the OT animated maquettes.  They have yet to do a single Clone Wars piece this way and I can't see them starting with 2 of the 3 last pieces in the Clone Wars line.

Yes, thank goodness GG is there to ensure that you are properly punished for having any other priorities in your life.

I would love to have both Droids Boba and Yoda/R2.  Too bad GG doesn't want me to have them.

The black and whites are exactly what limited exclusives should be... products whose appeal is not that great (zero in my case, I don't get it), but certain people will want only because of its rarity or because it has special meaning to them (like a con exclusive that signifies the event).

I still feel these hyper limited high demand new sculpts are insane.

I have to say i'm quite impressed with the Stormtrooper, I thought from the early shots that the pose was all wrong, but it actually works. My only gripe is the size of the thing, it needed to be a smidge taller.

Well I have not seen mine yet (still in the box), but I think it works (in scale with Boba (clone), etc) and it gives Vader the menacing look he should have (slightly exaggerated being animation style too).

Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Nicklab on May 29, 2007, 02:52 PM
I scored one on Thursday.  Some of the people on line were going nuts about it, because the Star Wars Shop booth was probably one of the most disorganized of the entire show.

I'm currently waiting for it to arrive at home since I had to ship almost everything I bought at C4.  This is really the only one of the special versions of a previously released animated maquette that I've wanted to keep.

Do you know if they sold out? I have been checking the starwarsshop non-stop hoping they go up for order today.
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Nicklab on May 29, 2007, 02:59 PM
Not sure.  They sold at least 350 on Fan Club day and I didn't really have time to check back after that.  I was trying to get the Gentle Giant Yoda & R2 after that so I didn't have time to focus on going back for Boba Fett.  It got to be very rat-race like in the exhibit hall with the exclusives.

Unfortunately, yes.  I was able to grab this on Friday and the guy running the booth said they sold 400 on Thursday and the last 300 on Friday.

Was able to luck out an get the animated fett it's number 50. I was waiting at the door for the convention to open..somehow there was already a large contingent 100 people at the SW booth already inside -when they opened the doors everyone ran (including me) knocking down others and what not...I knew they sold most on friday already. Everbody else apparently did too, the 'line' if want to call it that went all the way around the booth then there was 100 more people in front of the booth. I stupidly ran to where I thought the line was, had to run all the way around and ended up on the fringe of the pile of folks. The Lady had 5 tickets left in her hand when I got mine-what a relief! I was nearby mere minutes later when they exclaimed over a loudspeaker they were sold out to ticketholders only. Then, they put a sign up. I really wanted this-it's my only Fett macquette now.

Yoda with Kybuck..says available July...is it a SDCC exclusive? Number is TBD like the Han and Chewie -was there a preorder for this and I missed it? Hope not! Noticed a Mace windu announced for this year too.

would like to see and would buy-- DURGE --GG didn't make him too did they?

Jon,
Yoda/Kybuck is a regular release Maquette for the Clone Wars line I believe.  It is not, to the best of my knowledge, a SDCC exclusive.  The exclusive maquette from GG for SDCC is still the Yoda/R2 OT maquette, same as for C4.  It's a "world tour" exclusive, so they are taking it to all the shows as the exclusive.

I don't know of a Durge maquette at this point.

I disagree with Mace being the last-especialy when they can do Dooku, Durge, Emperor, Saesee, Shakk-ti,
even Kit Fisto. Nope ..too much to gain by them for me to believe that just yet.

Anyway I put myself on a wait-list preorder for the Kybuck piece...what does that mean anyway? Does this mean I get to actually purchase one if someone cancels their order only??? Well, it doesn't sound as good as a guaranteed preorder anyway.

I know Jaydouble had trouble getting the Yoda piece you speak of Brent at C4. So, I better get in line for that one early, huh?

DS
Title: Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
Post by: Morgbug on June 11, 2007, 04:21 PM
I think the solution is to participate in the pre-order for SDCC like they had for C4.  People who pre-ordered were allowed to get one each of the pre-order items (Malak, Gree, Yoda, R2/Yoda, bustups) by just showing up with their order confirmation.  That's the best solution ahead of time, otherwise lining up is the option.   :-\
You need to be registered with them, but don't have to be part of the upper-crust/suckers membership group that costs money, just on their mailing list/fan club list I think.

I'm not sure where you ordered from for the Kybuck, so I can't say what the wait list is about?  Talesofwonder.com has the Yoda/Kybuck available for preorder (http://talesofwonder.com/product-exec/product_id/46179/category_id/127/sc/3,106,127).  I've ordered a fair bit (busts, maquettes) from them and they have yet to let me down, plus the pricing is decent.

There are definitely some good choices left out there for the Clone Wars animated maquette line, there's no disagreement there.  But Gentle Giant did announce at Toy Fair that the Mace Windu maquette would be the final piece from the Clone Wars line.

they say you have to log-in( to HS), then access the Starwarsshop link then once in there, log-in again (to HS)then it will work? They say if you're not logged in twice then a button won't appear.

Well after all that crap I went through to get a Mace maquette on SWS.com & failed, my Mace arrived today compliments of Jayson.  :)

Man this is one sweet maquette. The leg pegs were not lined up very well for the base but I did manage to get the pegs in very carefully but the bottom of his feet are not flush with the base.

Funny thing, on the box & the certificate Mace's number is 254/1000. But on the bottom of the base, the number is 154/1000. A big goof on GG part but I am more than happy the way things are with him.  :)

Box Number.

Is this emperor maquette an OTC maquette or a Clone Wars maquette? I thought Mace was the last Clone Wars one to be made, but this item could fit under either designation (although I'm not sure whether Sidious was ever shown in a non-holographic form in the Clone Wars series).

It's about $25 less than I paid for mine, so I would have too.

It seems the demand for all things GG (clone commanders and CW maquettes aside) has really waned in the last while.  Very few things are running even close to retail price.  I ended up with a second blackhole maquette in a trade and I don't think I'll be able to get retail on that piece even and it has an edition size of only 1000.  We either need a movie/tv show to stir some interest or things are going to continue sliding I'd guess.

I know I'm not paying retail for anything now in the way of a pre-order.

I was never planning on doing PT with this line in the first place, so with Maul being so-so it's an easy pass.  Obi is not really that exciting either but he's probably my favorite character so I might get that.  I'm behind though, having not picked up Han or Chewie from the regular line and having passed on the AFX Luke.   :-\

I am not really feeling the Maul maquette either. I was thinking about what PT characters i would buy in maquette form and i think its just 2, Qui-Gon and Jango Fett. I could probably see myself buying a Jar Jar maquette becuase i think they could make it look cool but other than that i don't see myself buying these.

I have the Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=GG10095&mode=retail) coming from BBTS, on sale for $41.99.

Ever so close to getting all the maquettes, down to Anakin, Chewbacca & Han. The Emperor is on preorder & still debating on the Obi-Wan & Darth Maul.  :-\

Wow, those look really nice Scott (I like that whole shelving unit in general).  I really wish I could afford to collect these, they are quite spiffy.  I had to opt for the less expensive character keys to get my animated fix, but those maquettes look really nice.  I like the Cap shelf there as well :).

I was pretty happy today as I had a parcel pick up at the PO. I have been after this baby for a long long time & he has finally arrived. The contents were sealed, never opened & everything was intact.  8)  #911/2500.

I daresay you will beat me to a complete set as I still need that dam padme and she hasnt been appearing on ebay for ages.

Now with the Luke pilot on the way as well as Han & Chewy, all that is left is Anakin & the set will be complete.  ;D

Thanks for the heads up on the sale price at EE, Dale.  I have always wanted to collect these (the Han/Chewie in particular), but just couldn't afford them overall.  Although I missed the Chewie, I placed an order for the Han - and for around $50 shipped I can't complain.  Looking forward to seeing one of these in person.

That's my plan.  Seems like my favorite retailer for pre-ordering caught on too.  Talesofwonder.com is no longer bringing in the newer maquettes and they were usually selling them in the $65-70 range.

About the only thing I'll pay full price on these days from GG is the exclusive or con stuff.

I'm really trying to decide if I want to carry on with these maquettes or not.  I'm behind by Chewie/Han/Emperor and haven't pre-ordered Obi either.  I like the Boba/Han carb version, but that would give me 4 Boba maquettes and I'm not that big of a fan.

Thanks for posting the info about the GG sale.  I couldn't resist ordering the Chewie maquette at $40 as well.  I have the Han coming from EE any day now, and always wanted to pick up these two.  Actually, I really wanted to collect this line in general (the OT ones) and some of those other ones available at GG are awfully tempting at $40.  Its a nice time to catch up on some for some good prices, but spending has been a little crazy the past month and a half, so I should probably hold off.

Yesterday, I received the Chewie (153/3000) and Luke (1686/4500) maquettes from GG that I ordered during that sale a little while back - and I have to say, I really like this line.  I'm hoping I can continue to pick more up here and there (I've been watching ebay for good deals), and continue to grab these.  I don't know if I'll ever be able to get complete with these or not, but I'm hoping to get as many as I can.  So far, I've paid $40 for each one, so I guess I can't complain too much.  A real neat line though, and I'm glad I was able to pick a few of these up.

Some pretty substantial savings on these at GG's website.

3PO/Jawa for $18
Luke pilot $18
b/w Luke pilot $40
Han $40

I bought the Luke pilot in the color version since I only had the b/w version (at full price  ::)) and the Han to round out the collection.  I guess I'm down the Obi and Emperor, but that should be it for those.  Crazy sales.

had to fix the b/w Luke price, it's $40, not $18.

I would guess that any store that has a wholesale account with EE will be able to buy it and resell it on their own site - BBTS, RE, etc.  It happens with some of EE's Hasbro stuff too - EE gives the etailers a discount and then the other places resell it to attrack more customers.

That Fett maquette sure is cool, and I'm considering preordering it as well.  I'm on the fence though, as my budget is considerably cut this year, and that amount would buy a lot of figure (or one of the big vehicles or something instead).  It seems a little surprising that a maquette like this, that is sure to be super popular with fans, is an exclusive (although its pretty much available everywhere it seems).  Anyone get an indication that this line may be winding down?  I like them, and they seem to have a pretty good following here, but most of the more recent ones seem to be blown out periodically at various online retailers (include GG's site).  It just makes me wonder what the future holds with this line.  I only have four of them so far (the OT ones), and I'm considering whether or not to try picking up others I've missed or not.  Anyways - back to topic - very cool maquette.

Gotta love RazorsEdge, I received an e-mail from Mike & everything is fine with my preorder. Once the Fett & Han Carb arrive instock then they will weigh the box & LMK on the shipping cost. Very good communication with them, not often you get that with other places.  8)

Unkown what the cost is at this time but it's $64.99 GBP so about $93.00 US on the Forbidden Planet (http://www.forbiddenplanet.com/products/38212/Star_Wars_Maquette_Coruscant_Guard_Forbidden_Planet_Exclusive/Science_Fiction/Statue/Star_Wars/Product.html) site.

I also seen this posted at the other site & it has been confirmed by VinylSquirrel (VP) that a animated Han Stormtrooper maquette will be coming out.  8)

Wow.  Nice catch.  Confirmation on this one, VS?

oooh, you caught a nice sneak peek!  Confirmed. Animated Han Stormtrooper.  This will be an AFX Exclusive, with a quantity set aside for GG.

Cool.  Thanks for the confirmation VS.

Surprised that AFX is taking this one given how the Luke took a while to sell.

Perhaps Luke will start selling a little more when Han is officially announced.  They go better as a pair.

He will be much more limited.

Limited... eek!  :-\

I also still need help from any PGM member on the Coruscant Guard Maquette from GG, please see my post above. Paypal is just a clicky away.  :)

Pass on both for me.  Han looks good, but skipped the Luke, so no point for moi.  Ewok?  ::)  I still need to pick up the Emperor and Obi and that'll probably be it for me unless something really catches my eye.

Those are pretty nice.  I'd like to get both, but I'm still on the fence with this line.  I really like it, but money is tight right now so I've been holding off a bit on picking up others that I've missed right now.  I was sort of wondering how much life this line had left, since it seems like they are often clearanced out online - but it looks like more are on the way.

I've pretty much waited to pick up all of the maquettes I currently have until they were $40 or less, but I broke that rule by picking up the Yoda/R2 exclusive from a couple of years ago.  I always really wanted to pick it up, and saw an auction on ebay and ended up winning it.  It arrived today, and I'm really happy to add it to the collection.  It just captures the spirit of the OT to me quite nicely.  I don't know if I'll be able to totally catch up on the OT ones or not, but I'm happy with the ones I've been able to get so far.  I see that prices have already come down on a number of the other ones, so we'll see.

Wicket is 11/09, so any day I would assume.

Boba/Han is 12/09 but nothing on Leia that I could find.  Those are just GG dates, so take 'em with a grain of salt.  I'll be passing on Wicket but getting the other two.

Knocked off the Emperor maquette on ebay yesterday.  Watched a regular auction go up to around $59 or so and then the $15 shipping after it.  Decided against bidding on that one and opted for the $49.99 BIN with identical shipping instead. ::)  I love ebay when I'm selling because I just don't get buyers.

Waiting now on the Fett/carbonite Han and Slave Leia maquettes to be up to date.

Ah. I see that too, and that would likely get me to pass as well.  I really like the statue otherwise, but I've stuck strictly to OT with these and if I can continue with anymore, that's how it will be.  Too bad though, otherwise a spiffy looking statue I think.
