Title: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: McMetal on January 24, 2012, 10:13 AM
MTT FTW!

Props to JTA for breaking this story with some juicy details.

3 feet long?  :o

20 battledroids included?  :o

Wowzers.

3' long w/electronics + 20 battle droids for $100   ???  It will have to suck for that price.  Heck that's $200 right there in figures alone.

Sure sounds like Hasbro is going to unveil this much-rumored ship at UK Toy Fair today.  The MTT rumors have been flying since NYCC, so while that part really isn't news it will be nice to have it "officially" confirmed I suppose.

Heck that's $200 right there in figures alone.

It's $200 in figures IF you assume they are giving us 20 of the new SA Battle Droid sculpt.

There is every chance they will cheap-out and give us something like 10 non-articulated folded droids and 10 non-articulated unfolded droids.  Or maybe something in between like 20 of a different older and cheaper battle droid sculpt? :P

Wow, it sounds like a amazing item. I can't see getting it myself, unless it goes crazy clearance like the shuttle did. While it will have a lot of buzz going for it with the movie out, it is still a big rounded brown terd that carries nameless battle droids...

As a star wars geek, I can see wanting one, but as a parent looking for something cool for $100 or more, I'm not sure this thing has much curb appeal. the turbo tank looked like a monster truck, the AT-AT is a mechanized dino, and the Falcon is the Falcon. This one needs spinning rims, air shocks, and a subwoofer to be cool.

The only new thing I saw for SW was this year's big vehicle - the MTT. It's quite big, the main gimmick is the opening droid tray. It has the slow opening mechanism that the previous big vehicles has. It includes 20 battle droids and a crappy Obi Wan. Only four of the droids are articulated though. The rest are pre-posed ****. Kind of a con really as the blurb says "includes 20 figures" Unposable blobs of **** are not figures, Hasbro.

Darby/Diddly came back at us with the MTT rumor at NYCC, so this is kind of neat that it's what they're actually going with apparantly, and really big.  3 feet?  Much larger than the AT-TE.

Do I get bonus points for being close?  Everyone had to know there was no way they were putting 20 SA Battle Droids in there... :-X

100 bonus points awarded to Jeff   :)

I don't really care about the unposable blobs of ****.  I'm more for the 3' long blob of **** myself.  This thing would have been $300 if they included 20 SA figures.  The droids will likely stay couped up in their stall once I get my mitts on this.

Why would Obi-Wan be included though?  He had no interaction with this thing..

You nailed it Dan.  Neat, but would my kids play with it?  No way.

I'll probably pick it up if it gets sub $60, but likely not drop $100 on it.

Seems kind of odd that we would get this ship before a Rebel Troop Transport - I know it is a TPM year and not ANH year.

I still think an Ewok playset or something else would be a helluva lot cooler than a battle droid troop carrier *yawn*.

Between TPM3D and Clone Wars cross-over (even ifi t's not in the series) it's a smart way to go I think, but yeah...

I think that "3 feet long" is fudging the numbers there too...  3 feet when the droid compartment is out, but not when it's all put together.  Just my guess there.

And yes, bonus points to Jeff.  Or partial credit anyway. :P
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: CHEWIE on January 24, 2012, 03:20 PM
The play value seems good for what Hasbro could pull off with a TPM based vehicle...  and I'm sure my son will think it's neat - I'll be getting one for a shelf display for sure, and if he indeed likes it, then one for him too.  And I'll certainly support this at full price.  It's nice to see Hasbro figure out a way to make a "Big One" for TPM, without rehashing the Queen's ship.

Well done Hasbro, well done.   Even as a display piece, this thing will be awesome.

It should be pointed out that if Jeff's getting bonus points, then Darby won the game outright. :)

He actually posted that he was hinted at strongly that the MTT would be this year's big vehicle, back in early January, and he mentioned it to me right after NYCC actually.

http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=21308.msg528104#msg528104

Good scoop for him.  I'm honestly a little surprised, but at the same time, it has that dual value in fitting in with CW ala the way the AT-AT did, and then also fitting into the basic line and TPM focus of course.  Cool stuff.

Actually, it looks pretty fun.  I avoided the clone wars ship this year, and don't regret it.  But this looks to be pretty unique and playable.  At least we know that somehow, the numbers on these big ships work well enough that Hasbro keeps making them.

Yeah, this is a HELL of a lot better than the Clone Wars Attack Shuttle, in my opinion... best thing in the line sine the Turbo Tank!  Well, Jango's Slave I isn't too shabby either.

Fake press kit. The Bongo sub is coming!   ;)

So odds are the Battle Droids from previous years probably won't work with this.

I like the line "The most iconic vehicle from Episode 1..." Yeah, right.

Why would Obi-Wan be included though?  He had no interaction with this thing..

Probably so on the box they can show him, and try to help make that a selling point... on the LEGO sets, they sometimes throw in another figure that isn't all that relevant... I think it's a good move... you know, some parents might be on the fence on this, and then see Obi Wan, and think "Oh, it comes with a good guy too, now Jimmy will be happy for Christmas."  After all, it probably doesn't cost Hasbro much at all to throw an Obi Wan in there, and apparently it's a really cheap version... so to have on the box "With Obi Wan Kenobi" might be their strategy behind that.

I think Hasbro did their homework on this one, and it sounds like for what it is, this is about as good as it gets for this vehicle.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: iFett on January 24, 2012, 04:23 PM
Good point...I do the LEGO sets so perhaps Hasbro is finally taking a hint from them, plus ya adding a hero type guy to this would likely sway parents to buy one for lil Jimmy.

Let me ammend this post too, to include our own P-Siddy as well, as he was the first to mention an MTT (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=21769.msg522856#msg522856) to me after NYCC this past year!  But yeah, that's two actually right after the show.  I wasn't shocked at the announcement for sure, but I was a bit surprised at the figures/size of it.  I figured it'd be closer to the Republic Shuttle in size, and more miniaturized.

Likewise, Sandtroopers.com also got less of a hint, but they were certainly on the trail of, the MTT back during their SDCC Coverage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9N8GJJ4PiEY).

I don't buy LEGO stuff, but I do think LEGO has got things really orchestrated well with how they manage their pack-ins.  I love looking at stuff at the store and think it's cool how they integrate so many "extras" when they can.

Called it!   ;)

This is cool to see, especially as this is one piece I had wanted them to do from '99.  The non articulated droids was kind of expected, but 20 of them all together... wow.

FYI according to Daryl this would (will) be at Toy Fair, as that's what started the whole discussion - where is the big ship???

Still very surprised that they took a shot on this one.  But if Hasbro can apply some of the R/C and electronic concepts that they've used in the Hailfire Droid & Republic Fighter Tank, maybe they'll give it enough play value that can really bring around the more casual buyers.

I'm guessing anything "motorized" on it is going to be a tension type thing ala the deploying doors on the AT-TE and not much else.

Not bad, looking forward to seeing better pics of it (likely at Toy Fair).  I've been far more selective with PT-era vehicles because of a lack of space, but I might end up picking this up as well.  Pretty good choice for a "big" vehicle from TPM, and I hope that it does well enough that we continue to see something big from each of the 3D releases - lots of potential there.  It will be interesting to see how it does with kids/parents - it all depends on how much of a draw the TPM re-release really is I guess (or if that "prequel generation" does still collect toys like the OT generation does).  The fact that it is likely a Fall release might hurt things then since kids will have moved onto things like Avengers, Spider-Man, Batman, or GI Joe by then (with Hobbit on the horizon).  Anyways, pretty neat though.

My kid loves the battle droids and this vehicle.  So, I will be adding it to the collection.  It sounds good to me.  I did not think they were going to give us 20 poseable droids to begin with so that's fine with me.  I look forward to seeing it of course!

So is that a Clone Wars battledroid in there or are my eyes just messing with me?  I was guessing it's just a mock-up placeholder figure, but stranger things have happened for sure.  It'd just be kind of disappointing if all the folded ones were made to look that way.  The animated droid is pretty distinct.

Of course if it is, I'd still lean more towards it just being a figure holding a place in mock-up packaging and not the final figure you'll ultimately get in the set.

It also didn't seem like it was made for the vintage droid, not CW, due to the effort to make the vinty one fold (the Legends ones folded fine too though)...  But I could see it happening that the poseable figures, at least, are Clone Wars ones.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: Jayson on January 24, 2012, 11:38 PM
I think that it is a mockup as evidenced by the blank call out circle on the front of the box. My guess is that is where all of the main features (in different languages when applicable) will be listed. That battle droid shown there does look like the CW version. It seems a little flat so I think is it a placeholder graphic. I suspect that Hasbro will cross advertise the MTT stating that it works with Movie Heroes/Vintage and Clone Wars figures like they are doing on other packaging.

That is pretty cool. I guess only four droids are articulated. I like that it is an actual vehicle instead of just a big storage case that I thought it was going to be. Now I need a Rebel Troop Transport with some kind of internal playset like command room and brig.

An interesting piece to be sure, but I think I'll pass initially.  Mainly because I just don't have the space.  If I tried to put it on my Naboo battle shelf, it and the Fambaa would take up all the space.

Also, didn't Obi Wan run around these things in the Naboo swamps?  Just trying to throw out the tie-in.

QGJ and Jar Jar met as one was coming after them...  I don't recall Obi-Wan ever seeing one though.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: efranks on January 25, 2012, 02:21 AM
Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon stowed away on the dropships to get to Naboo.  It never really specified where in the dropships they hid so maybe they hitched a ride on an MTT to get off the ship unnoticed?

As for the toy.  Eh.  I'm not completely disappointed that they tackled this one.  I've never really argued against any of the large vehicles other than pointing out why some might not be a good choice.  This was one of them.  It'll be interesting, once we see all the features, to hear what people think of it.

From the tiny pics it looks like it could have playset features in some sort of combination of the AT-TE and Attack Shuttle along with the droid deployment feature.  Plus you have to worry about pricing.  It could generate a lot of "Maybe, on clearance" response.

   E...

Neat.  I am sure a lot of long-time collectors are happy now.

Let's speculate on the future...

What are your picks for "big vehicle" for the rest of the releases?
AOTC: Not sure here...  Maybe Padme's ship?  Not a lot of fun there...
ROTS: Same here...  Padme's ship is all that stands out to me...
ANH: Tantive IV for sure
ESB: Rebel Transport
ROTJ: Perhaps... at long last...  Jabba's Barge?

Yeah that's going to be a tough one to move at that price - especially for the casual collectors/parents.  Wasn't the BMF somewhere in that price range?  This is not a Millenium Falcon.

Honestly though I'll still buy one - at full price if I have to, but will hold out for a sale as always.  I don't collect much SW stuff anymore, but it's nice to have 1 large vehicle to look foward to each year.

This is the coolest thing in the line since the Turbo Tank, so there's no way I'm not going to support it.

Especially considering how much I've spent over the years, the fact that it's going to be $130 and not $100 isn't going to break the deal for me.  I'll just eat lunch at my desk a few times one week, which makes up the difference.

Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: Brian on January 25, 2012, 02:18 PM
The price isn't unexpected I guess, but it will be interesting to see how this thing moves.  Like it was mentioned, the Falcon (which is iconic even to non fans) was just a little bit more than this originally ($150 I think?), and it didn't always move the best.  The AT-AT even sat somewhat, and it was probably the most popular offering in the big vehicle line (or the AT-TE).  I think many will wait for a sale/clearance on this at that price, and I might do that too.  It all depends on the timing of the release (and what I have budget wise), because I do like to support stuff like this so we see more of it later.  Come to think of it though, all of these BMF vehicles have hit clearance at least in some capacity haven't they?

It is interesting to think about what could come about down the road.  There may not be a lot of good options from the prequels that haven't already been done (Turbo Tank, AT-TE, Slave I, etc.) so maybe we'll just see re-releases of that type of stuff.  The Tantive would be very cool, and I do think we'll see that ESB repaint of the Slave I at some point during these releases as well.  Might be a shot at some sort of Death Star during ANH, since we know they've at least had plans for it along the way (and this may well be their last shot at putting it out).  Sail Barge for ROTJ would be a nice way to cap off the big vehicles, if that is the big SW send-off down the road.  I agree though, I do like having the one "big" item to look forward to each year in the SW line.  I haven't bought them all, but I like that the line has had them each year.

Yeah I've not bought anything for full price in the "big" series since the AT-TE so I'm not going to with this either, especially at any kind of price-hike.  I'd do without it ultimately, first.  It's neat, but not a necessity to me even at $100.

Oooooooh.  Crap.  $130.   Mmm I will still buy one of these MTT's at $130 but it better be very big.  And then I will buy another one or two if they go on clearance.  The first one I will buy at $130 because with these things you never know when they will get to be HTF these days.  The prices for the AT-TE on eBay are pretty high.

The rumors were saying 3 feet but by my eye that is 3 feet with the rack extended and I'd guess 2 feet (about the size of teh AT-TE) closed.

This is the coolest thing in the line since the Turbo Tank, so there's no way I'm not going to support it.

That's like saying someone is the tallest midget.  Sorry, I wasn't overly impressed with the Turbo Tank.

I think the MTT is an interesting choice, and I want to see more about it.  But I really don't know how I'd incorporate that thing into my collection room.

Yes.  Cosign.  Probably the most underscaled vehicle ever.  The vehicle is 90 feet tall in the movies, or 15x taller than a clone trooper.

But the toy is only 3x taller than a clone trooper.  Which means it would be perfect if the figures were an inch or less in height, rather than 3.75".

There are some vehicles and figures that are so out of scale it completely ruins them.  And for me, this was one of them and I passed.

I just like the fact that they even made another big vehicle.  It's gonna go to clearance of course.  So, I don't know what they are going to do to offset that?  Make it an exclusive?  I think it's a good choice for a big vehicle myself.  There was no way they were going to make the Trade Federation Battleship.  The Royal Starship had already kind of bombed for them the first time around.  They were not going to make the Landing Craft.  The Fambaa is not that exciting.  I thought perhaps the Sith Infiltrator had a chance with it being Maul's ship and all but they probably figure they sell more $25-30 underscale versions anyway.

The MTT has a cool little scene in the movie with deploying the battle droids.  If you have been collecting Naboo battle stuff over the years like the ATT, battle droids, Destroyer Droids, Gungans, Fambaa, STAP, then this is a nice addition to that diorama IMO.  I look forward to getting it myself.  My son will go nutty for it since he actually likes that battle droids and in particular the scene where they are deployed, folded, unfold, and grab their guns, etc.

Yeah, with what is available from TPM, it is probably the best choice available.  There will always be some other ships that we want from each of the movies, but many that wouldn't sell...at all (although I think at $130 this one will be a challenge too).  A larger Sith Infiltrator would have been cool, but I can see your point about them figuring they can just sell more of the smaller version.  I never picked up the last one, although I was tempted this go round (or pick up the older one on ebay cheaper).

But for me, I bought several.  In Hasbro's eyes, I made up for both of you!

And it's not always about the 30-40 somethings anyway, remember kids love this stuff.  If you could only see how much my son loves the Turbo Tank... and they aren't cheap on ebay either.  If everyone thought it was lame, you'd see it cheap like the GI JOE Pit.

I think they included far too many collosal Republic ground vehicles in ROTS that could never realistically be made in 3 3/4". Didn't they know the movies were made to sell toys?  :P

While the Turbo Tank may be out of scale, I would agree that is by far the best *TOY* ever made in the modern Star Wars line.  The lights, the missiles, the ruggedness, the launching speeder.  My kids love playing with it and have quickly set many of the other toys aside and always go back to the Turbo Tank.

I think most, if not all of the ships are out of scale.  That's just something I've come to accept with these figures.  I'll get it if the price is considerably lower and it has some cool features, but it isn't a must have like the Turbo Tank, BMF, or the AT-AT.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: Jesse James on January 30, 2012, 01:23 AM
You'd be amazed at the ships that are to-scale or VERY close without them actually probably trying for it.

I hated the Turbo Tank when it came out, and its name is right up there with the worst I can think of (How much cooler is "Juggernaught"?  I mean seriously here people!).

I got one super cheap at K-Mart during their clearance of it since they always do that cool "extra 50% off", and so I had to cave, and I appreciated it more.  It's pretty slick...  I wouldn't say it's better than the other BMF type ships but it's got a lot going for it for sure.  But yeah, being a scale nut, I'll never buy the undersized (or oversized for that matter) vehicles till they're on a pretty hefty discount.  They're not practical to make to-scale, of course, but I can only be enticed by them for a low price then too.

I will say I've found that my Turbo Tank has made a fun project and I'm turning mine into sort of an armored command car...  just a smaller version of its larger cousins, that accompanies a squad of AT-TE's or something.  I liked it enough to crowbar it into the collection anyway.

Post by: CHEWIE on January 30, 2012, 05:41 PM
Yeah, Juggernaught is a much cooler name... I guess they went with "Turbo Tank" to appeal to kids more... I kind of see it as a scaled down tank too.  And I'd gladly shell out a lot more for one about twice as big, but for Hasbro I am sure that's not practical.

If I remember correctly, at Toy Fair that year they hinted that it was much easier to call it "Clone Turbo Tank" than sift through the legal tidbits of selling a Juggernaut, which has plenty of copyrights/trademarks attached to it already...

It is small compared to the AAT's...  The "3 feet long" thing was all about it with the troop compartment opened/deployed.  That's a little deceptive IMO.  It's closer to 2 feet I'd guess.  I find it a bit too small even for $100, but that's me.  I'm certainly going to wait on it...  If I get one later great, but if I miss it I won't be shedding any tears either.

I was thinking maybe the final product will still come with folded droids too, and those are just there for the picture.  Just a guess.

Honestly, it looks pretty crappy. The deployment rack just kind of slides out, and they're standing there. It's definitely not a revolutionary bit of toy engineering. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting Hasbro to perfectly copy the deployment mechanism featured in the movie, but this is really phoning it in.

I really feel like the attention to detail they put into the AT-AT and Millennium Falcon has been lost with this.

And with the price going up on Vintage figures, who wants to spend $400 to fill one of these with posable battledroids?

After looking at some of the pics and videos of this from Toy Fair, it does look kind of neat.  After seeing TPM this weekend, it sort of makes me want to pick up this and some of the other vehicles I missed, so we'll see.  I'd like to get one of these, but honestly, this is one that's going to have to hit a discount/clearance I think.  I just can't justify $140 for this, and it would have to get under $100 for me to start thinking about it.  If it got to some "super sale" like some of the other big vehicles have, I'd jump at it though.  It is getting difficult to find a good place to display these big vehicles though, my AT-TE is still just sitting on the floor next to display cases.

I think JACK maybe meant TPM3D flopped?

The original TPM was a big money-maker, but the toy sales were ultimately a bad thing.  Overproduced.  I don't think anyone's arguing that really, but TPM the original release did well...  3D, I think it did well enough I guess, but I think Star Wars is wearing out its welcome some.  It has been doing that for a while.

With all the features on the MTT I do think that it's a really fun toy.  The folding rack is pretty cool and seems to work well.  Eventhough not all of the Battle Droids are articulated (16 are static, 4 have articulation) they look pretty good coming out of the vehicle.

Is $140 worth it?  That's up to the individual. I think there's enough toy there to make it worth that price, but I don't know if there's a market there for a $140 toy.  I don't have the money or the space for it, but I do like it well enough that if those two strikes against it were removed, I'd buy one even at full price.

Having a 13-year-old movie open to $23 million in February? That's pretty good, actually.  It'll be interesting to see what kind of staying power it has this coming weekend since it's a holiday and kids should have a 3 day weekend.

I don't think the MTT will kill the Star Wars toy line, but it could kill our chances at a 2014 large vehicle.  The Shuttle may have already done in the 2013 release, but it may be too early to tell on that.

The shuttle was just flat out a bad choice.  I've been collecting Star Wars figures for 32 years and I flat out don't even know what a Republic Shuttle is.  I'm guessing it's from the Clone Wars cartoon but have not even taken the 30 seconds needed to google that yet.  I passed on it all the time at full price, and there have been a pile of them in the clearance aisle at my Walmart for $30 or so and I still don't want it.  If those were AT-TEs or AT-ATs or something iconic that size at $30 I'd have put the entire pile in my shopping cart.

I will actually be buying one MTT at full price the first time I see it.  I will consider additional MTTs after price reductions.

It's annoying that they'll risk so much on something nobody has ever heard of, but won't make an iconic Death Star playset that even some grandmothers would recognize.

Yeah, I think it will be really interesting to see how this thing does at $140.  It seems like a cool enough toy, but it is pricey and I don't see any average joes/parents really wanting to pick it up at that price - for Christmas or otherwise.  I'd like to get one, but honestly it is going to have to be on a sale/clearance most likely.  Like others have said, it doesn't exactly look super aggressive or awesome from the outside either - not likely to draw a lot of kids' eyes.  I'm sure kids of collectors - who are more entrenched into SW - may think its cool, but as far as the average kids go, I don't know.  It sounds like less and less of them are watching CW even these days, let alone an "old movie".

As far as the 3D release, I think it did well enough.  I read somewhere that Fox had hoped it would do $20 for its opening, and it beat that.  It will be interesting to see how it fares this weekend with more new releases.  That's a big reason I went opening weekend, I wasn't sure how long it would hang around.  I do wonder how much Star Wars fatigue there is at this point too, hard to tell.  It would have been nice to see them lead things off with A New Hope instead, but I guess I understand why they did it numerically.

Hasbro sales were through the roof in 1999...they just mass produced the hell out of it...to the point where retail got super duper pissed (Freeze Frames anyone?)  I wish digital phone cameras were around back then, I still remember 30+ pegs of Freeze Frames in the Target clearance aisles

There wasn't enough time between the shuttle release and MTT development for the sale of the former to impact the release of the latter.

Yeah, they missed a golden opportunity...

TPM3D has NOT done well...  20.5 is the minimum projected for them to progress with other 3D releases, no?  Not the ammount they were really hoping for.  That isn't a good thing, really.

Now, that said, TPM crap was selling well this weekend...  That I did notice and I can't imaginei t was different anywhere else.  My stores sold through a LOT of figures in all 3-4 lines over the weekend, all the packs and vehicles...  Shelves aren't cleared out but a lot of stuff sold (especially DTF and Vintage).

This would've been a good time to have MTT's out.

I'm still nto sold on the MTT as a value though.  $140 is pretty outrageous for this IMO.  The ship is smaller than the AT-TE and AT-AT from what I can guess by pics, and I find it a little boring.

Half price is even a rough one for me to justify the purchase but I'd at least consider it at that point.  Not before though.  I'd do without it otherwise.  It's underscaled, the pack-in droids suck IMO and the price is way too much for me.  Other than the AT-TE, i haven't bought one of these full price, and actually I haven't bought one of these for anything more than 50% actually.  The scale alone is enough for me not to care ultimately.

The price of this thing is baffling. While $100 seems perfect for the big vehicles, I could have understood $120ish considering most prices seem to be up by about 20% this year compared to 2010 and 2011. $140 makes it seem like Hasbro wants this to fail. While I really like the look of the MTT, I will definitely be shopping around for deals.

I would have to imagine the reason it isn't at retail right now is because retail didn't want it now. :P You'd essentially be asking them to take a risk on a $140 object at their slowest time of the year.

Yeah, I know the movie is out now, but what does that really get you in terms of casual (parent/kid) buyers?   Anyone honestly think the average parent in this economy would drop $140 on a non-holiday present just for the hell of it?  OK, maybe there are a few kids out there with February birthdays, but that's it.

Sure if it were out now you'd get the hype and maybe a few collectors would bite now, but probably not enough to off-set the parents who have no reason to buy this until Christmas...

In all honesty the prices on all of the SW merchandise is way to high right now.  $30 for Pod Racers?  $10 for figures?  Now $140 for this?  It's not a very bright move in my opinion.  Maybe it's out of necessity?  Greed?  I don't know, but it does not bode well in my opinion.  I guess it's good for being able to find items though!

Yes, I'll get one of each big item at full price, regardless of what it is.  I feel with as much as I've spent on this hobby and as much as I push for these bigger items, it would be hypocritical of me to wait for clearance - and if people like me aren't willing to pay the retail price, then I'm not sure we're going to see the big items continue into the future.

Perfect.  Now I'm thinking that a 3 way between Optimus Prime, a BAT, and a Battle Droid would end very badly for the 2 smaller droids.

Ditto here.
I really want a Sailbarge and Tantive IV in my collection one day so I always support the Big Guys as well at full price when it hits. While I think this is a weal choice when compared to what big ships should get made first it's still cool they actually made this. If they made this they can make the Sailbarge!

Buying these big vehicles at full price really is necessary to keep the line going.  It stings the wallet to plunk down $100 plus for a single item...especially since the online collecting community has educated everyone about the clearance process at major retailers.

If anything, I think doing this is advisable:  buy an MTT/Turbo Tank/Shuttle for yourself at full price.  After that if you want to fleet build, then shop the clearances.  And keep in mind that clearances are also good for scoring some trade bait.  I wound up being able to get some good stuff because I had the foresight to buy some clearance Republic Gunships back in the day.

I'm of the opinion that, if it's meant to be, it'll happen.  If not, it won't.  I'm not much for the "grassroots movement" in an effort to get more when these I think aren't always sound choices and moves by Hasbro.  $140 is, to me, outrageous for anything "big" they've made in the last several years, and this looks like less than the AT-AT in terms of toy (just my opinion) in every way.  With that in mind I just feel that if it's meant to be it'll work out and people will support it.  If not it won't.

I'm also of the opinion that if I never got this, I wouldn't care probably...  So the risk doesn't bother me.  The guy waiting on clearance because he feels it'll be inevitable is the one taking the real gamble...  I think 99% of people will buy it if they seriously want it though and not wait for price drops.

At the moment my son wants this very badly.  Though he is on a Star Wars super high at the moment.  It would have to be a X-Mas or birthday present.  His birthday is in November.  So, there is lots of time for him to change his mind about it.   I like the vehicle myself.  I am glad Hasbro has actually made it.  However, I don't think it's really worth $140.  More like $100.  If that.  So, yeah.  I may end up waiting for this thing to hit the clearance aisle.  I have been kind of pissed off about the increasing prices of SW toys lately.  That is across the board.  $30 vehicles.  $10 action figures.  $18 deluxe sets.  $25 figure packs.  I don't think it's justified either.  So, if that helps lower the prices it's fine by me.  If they end up discontinuing items they can look in the mirror.  I know they will blame it on collector enthusiasm, but you kill that enthusiasm with ridiculous prices in a crappy economy.  Just my opinion.

I disagree on that...  I think price hurts it far more.  I've seen every vintage wave, multiple times, just as I have in every year prior, and while some were harder to get (a lot harder) Hasbro is bringing many of those back out to retail this year.

What I've noticed though, is the sharpest decline in collectors ever, since 2008.  Since the major hikes in price, collectors have jumped ship like it's the titanic.  Retail seemed to slow down a bit...  Prices go up, people stop buying as much.

Don't get me wrong, distribution isn't perfect, but I don't think that issue makes people bail on the hobby like pricing them out of it does...  Pricing them out affects everybody too, parents/kids/collectors.  The first two don't notice the distribution as much as the collectors, since they of course monitor that with a microscope. :)  Both can drive people away, but I think price ultimately forces a much broader group to avoid the line.

Usually people finding what they want works itself out.  You see that all the time on the forums.  It starts with days, then weeks, then a month or more of people being vocal on what they cannot find, then they find it usually.

It wasn't prices or distribution that hurt the line.  It was a Rebel Fleet Trooper without a holster.

Didn't help for sure.

If I had to put that to a finer point though, it was all the way back to 1999/2000 when they didn't even have removable helmets or articulation that the line truly was damaged.  I don't think it ever recovered fully from that, much like a wound from a morgul blade.

I have to agree. The stores around here are still full of the first bloody wave of TPM crap. I have not seen the deleted scene wave or anything. Its not like I havn't looked either. They were just never there. Also the price is a huge turn off for me. There is no way I'm buying from a online source and paying three dollars more than retail. Retail is expensive enough. Besides, I only want certain things but I haven't even seen the things I don't want.

This MTT is going to be a floater. It's too expensive and takes up too much space. I still see the y-wings at TRU that aren't going anywhere. I also see b-wings marked down that still won't go anywhere.

This deal is getting worse all the time.

The deployable droids have stands  permenantly attached to their feet...blech. And no backpacks. Suprisingly their guns aren't molded on their hands.

From Jedi Temple Archives:

Quote
The battledroids: 16 pcs. stationary ones without backpacks and 4 "pilot battle droids" with backpacks. The other 4 stationary droids are with Obi-Wan in the box window. Speaking about Obi-Wan, he is the Ep.1 version Obi-Wan without the soft goods tunic from 1999 replaced with plastic. His head still comes with the soft braid. He has no wrist articulation. The bottom of the feet has the 1999 stamp on it.

The 4 battle droids are newly made. The backpacks are molded together to the body. These droids only have 5 points of articulation, just like a potf2 figure would have. The 20 other battle droids all have molded bases (makes it easy to stand) bear 2011 LFL stamp markings. The biggest surprise for me is that they have only 1 point of articulation LOL. Only the right arm can move. The left hand is molded to the hip.

That's right the pilot droids suck, too.

Really for $160, all the droids should be at least 5 points of articulation.

Wow, after home runs on the BMF and AT-AT, this abortion ought to put the final nails in the large vehicle coffin built by the Attack Shuttle. With all the iconic vehicles screaming for the large scale treatment, Hasbro comes up with this? Who really wanted an MTT, much less one that sucks this bad? And for $160? I wouldn't pay $30.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on June 12, 2012, 12:52 PM
I agree this could be the death of BMF's, this thing will make the Sailbarge truly sail away.
EP1 still sucks as a movie and at retail. After 12yrs EP1 product has not lost its mojo as a king of pegwarmer product. This big brown turd will be the Queen's Royal Starship 2.0.

It's amazing how bad Hasbro has botched so many aspects of this line up. Any experienced SW collector (10+yrs) could have made logical and kid friendly picks betters than Hasbro could have. I give them a pass on the price increase and tough retail enviornment but the latter should have made them more cautious.

I will still buy one of these to support th eline but it has to be a fair deal. This space taker is the only hope of every getting a Sailbarge and it looks less likley.

Plus $15.00 shipping and an unknown amount of tax. I think online retail should be less not more. That is the whole reason we shop at Amazon.com verses brick and morter stores.

Star Wars is the other way around. Online stores charge more than retail because retail never has the product.

But yeah, f it.  I'll wait for clearance...  and if clearances don't happen, can't say I care.  I don't know off-hand any vehicle I would've gotten up and boogied about.  Maybe a scale Y-Wing or X-Wing...  definitely those actually.  Not much else.

Seriously, my stores have zero TVC or Clone Wars figures and are jam packed with Movie Heroes, Class I vehicles and the lame Class II repacks. And then whatever other stupid Pog/Jelly Bean type merchandise they are trying to get over this year. Absolutely no room for this one, and the Star Wars section is already really small and I highly doubt it's going to be expanded.

Personally I'm passing and spending the money on the repacked BAT-AT since I never got the original release

I'm willing to pay full price to get a pristine MIB one for my packaged collection. But unlike what I did with the Attack Shuttle last year, I'm definitely waiting for clearance/sale for my opener. No way is this half-assed effort worth $150. To me, the Attack Shuttle was a far better toy/offering and that was $80 out of the gate - that's the same price this turd should have been.

For this price, the 20 battle droids it brags about having should have been all the Vintage Battle Droids. Maybe then it would be justified.

Super lame.  Saw the video on JTA.  This is about the lamest, most un-fun thing I've seen Hasbro release in a long time.  I think my kids would play with this for about 10 minutes before moving on and never touching it again.

Its hard to see how I would pay more than $50 for this, and that is almost solely because I'm still somewhat of a completist.

Just as an FYI, when I checked the DPCI at Target last night (087-06-0846; Star Wars Droid Carrier), it was still listed at $129.99.  Granted $130 is probably still more than most of you are willing to spend, but at least it's less than $150-160 on-line is charging.

If I can find a nice 25-30% off sale at Target, I'll probably grab one then.  Otherwise I'll wait for the eventual 30-50% off clearance at Target before I pick one up.

I'm likely out on this one, barring a big clearance (which seems likely).  Just not too excited about it I guess.  In a way, I can see why it got chosen (with a TPM focus this year)...but personally, I've shifted more to OT-only with anything other than the basic figures, as space has just gotten too low for stuff like this.  If it hits some kind of ridiculous clearance price, I may bite, but I'll be playing the long game on this one.

It just seems like, aside from last year's Attack Shuttle, that most of these big vehicles have really been the "whoa, this is just an awesome toy and collectible", and this doesn't strike me as that.  The ones I have picked up (the Falcon, the AT-AT, and the AT-TE) are all pretty amazing in my eyes, and worth what I paid for each of them.  But, with display space and budgets getting tighter all the time I have to be more selective with the things I'm not super excited about like this.  Even the AT-TE, which is a great vehicle (and I got it during one of those $50 sales), just sits on the floor of our office because I don't have a way to display it any other way.

I have a feeling the Attack Shuttle was a bit of a dud for Hasbro, and this one seems to be heading that way too - and it is more expensive.  I hope that doesn't mean the end to big vehicles because of choices like this.  I still wouldn't mind seeing more new or redone vehicles from the OT eventually or along with the 3D releases if those still happen.  I'm wondering if next year's "big" items might lean more towards re-releases of things like Slave I or the AT-TE (if the AOTC release still happens).

Count me amongst the many who are passing on this until clearance.  I've gotten every "big" vehicle since they pretty much relaunched them with the AT-TE and Falcon at normal price upon release, but the MTT is just a case of asking too much for far too little.  I'd just assume they drop all the figures they currently have planned to include, include two repainted Vintage Battle Droids in the blue Pilot scheme, and drop the price by about 50 bucks, at least.  Sadly, I think that if this thing actually does make it to retail, it's going to be DOA in a way that Star Wars toys haven't been in a long time, if ever.

Of course, since pretty much everything past the TPM wave of vintage this year has been an online exclusive, the MTT being online-only wouldn't be much of a shock at all.  Even if it does get technically released at mass retail, there's no guarantee that it'll actually even show up anywhere.

There's been a lot of people at various forums suggesting that stores won't get these in, but I'm pretty sure we're going to see this as part of a reset coming here soon at most retailers.  It might tank at retail, but I don't see what's going to prevent it from being stocked.  It's not like it's part of an assortment that isn't selling that would prevent it from being ordered - that's why we see so much other stuff being available more online than in stores.

Our local Target has done their reset as well, and there was no sign of a spot for the MTT there either.  I'm really curious to see how this thing does.  The price is high, I think almost everyone (outside of SW fans) has forgotten about the 3D release at this point, and I just don't see many kids wanting this for Christmas.  It will be interesting to see how it does.

Absolutely a good thing, however, how retail orders and reorders is probably much more telling on how it did.  HTS + Free Shipping has to be the collector market for the most part...  and they maybe didn't go hog wild getting it in.

I'll be curious when it actually hits normal retail shelves, to see how it goes...  And what Hasbro says next year I guess.

As I was reading JTA's latest Walmart story, I noticed that their Fall planogram has a spot for one MTT (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=10327/#details). That shoots down the "this will only be online" theories.

I can see TRU having it as they love to carry bigger stuff like this...  still not sure about Target's plans though.  Must either have another reset planned for later in the year or they must be putting it on an endcap possibly.

I was thinking Target almost always did a post-Sept. or Oct. reset didn't they?  Maybe that's it.  The holiday reset?

I don't know what's up but I'll be surprised if this thing's considered a success ultimately.  It was a questionable choice back in January.

Although there are always "revisions" and endcaps, etc., I know our local Target is calling their recent toy reset the "Christmas Toy Reset".  I'm not sure how much things will change again, but there are always smaller revisions to the aisles.  Plus, the endcaps change out periodically.

I found two last week at one of my local WalMarts - I was gonna wait to get an opener on clearance, but the way things are going with this line, I'm starting to doubt there will be a chance for this to go on clearance like the Republic Attack Shuttle did.

So I pulled the trigger on both.

The vehicle itself is a lot cooler then I thought it would be.

The droids that come packed with it are rather weak. Same goes with the Obi-Wan - come to think of it, it just occurred to me that I might have accidentally thrown him away - oops!  :-X

Post by: iFett on August 22, 2012, 11:53 AM
Well at least you didn't throw the MTT in the trash   ;)  Droids and Obi-Wan aside - do you feel it was worth $130 Pete?
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: Pete_Fett on August 22, 2012, 12:53 PM
Yeah - it's a good size, not as big as it should be (obviously) but it dwarfs the Trade Federation Tank nicely so they fit together well in any Droid Army display you might have.

It will make a great display piece that I can stage all of my Trade Federation Droid Army on in my EP1 display case (once I move stuff around to actually FIT it)

Edit: Ok - so yeah - I did throw Obi-Wan in the trash, but thankfully, the bag with the packaging trash from this set and several other recently opened toys so I was able to "rescue" him...

It's still beyond my comprehension that Hasbro didn't get this beast out during the (failed) TPM 3D push.  Holding this non-iconic vehicle back so there's no decent marketing push to help boost it's sales along, while it's saddled with such a hefty price tag is a recipe for disaster - even moreso if it doesn't make it to all the regular B&M stores.  Further, Hasbro trying to coerce collectors into buying this by suggesting it's ultimate sales numbers will likely dictate the potential fate of a Jabba's Sail Barge being made in the future just sucks.  That's hardly an apples to apples comparison, if that's really what Hasbro will be basing it's decision on.  The Barge is a far more iconic vehicle, plus it's from the OT and is the basis for a major plot point's setting (with far more "play-value" built in).  The BMF's sales from a couple years back would be a far more valid comparison (or even the AT-AT's).  Considering these two are coming back to retail again next year, along with Boba's Slave-1, I think Hasbro must know that iconic OT vehicles are a far surer sale than what they're going to be seeing with this MTT.

With that in mind, I'm not too worried about nabbing this vehicle just yet, and will probably wait to get one until they drop into double digits, at least.  Hopefully Pete's concern isn't validated, and I don't get burned for my patience.  I definitely agree that the interactivity with the future mini-rig vehicle is an added plus for this set, but again, foresight and better planning would've really helped, as releasing the mini-rig the year AFTER the MTT's release (I'm assuming) is just flat out stupid beyond words.  Unless, of course, these MTTs are still shelf-warming next year, which is certainly a possibility.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: Jesse James on August 27, 2012, 05:12 AM
My guess, and this is just an assumption on my part, is it took them this long to get it to retail and it wasn't tied to them holding it back...  Maybe I'm wrong, but I think if they could've had this on shelves in Jan/Feb, they would've.

That said, I am seeing a boatload of MTT's at WM now.  Eveyr WM has 'em out on the shelves, just all of a sudden.

I too passed...  $130 is too much for this IMO.  Though I may be tempted if it dips below $100...  I think even $80 might make me move on this one, and just BS it as a smaller trooper transport and redesignate it or something.  $130's not cool though and I will stick to my guns with that.  It's a nice enough toy, just not nearly as nice as the AT-TE, TT, and AT-AT.

Yeah, I'd certainly agree with that.  I didn't word my post very well there.  Much like with the Naboo Starfighter and Tank that are now SOL, I know Hasbro would've preferred to get them into the TPM line originally.  They just failed in that attempt, miserably.  So I was meaning to bash their overall operational effectiveness more than their planning really.  Had they gotten that MTT into the line back when they should've, they may have sold a few more Battle Droids, Droidekas and Gungans.  Had they gotten that Naboo Starfighter in there when they should've, maybe that stupid Ric Olie and Naboo Pilot wouldn't have clogged the pegs quite as badly for the next 7-8 months.  Now they're going to hurt the sales of the MTT's respective mini-rig vehicle by not having that at retail simultaneously to the MTT.  Hasbro is just constantly hurting themselves on both ends with their sloppy organizing and managing of the line.  I'm sure there's outside factors that play into these delays far more than we can imagine, but still, Hasbro has lost the benefit of the doubt when it comes to problems with the line due to their poor decisions.  I blame them - not striking Chinese workers, Lucasfilm, or whoever else they'd like to shift the blame to.

I came across 2 of these yesterday at one of my local WMs, and despite my original thoughts (below) was about to buy one 'til I noticed both boxes were completely crushed on one end, to the point that it made me worried about the contents inside potentially being jacked up.  After a bit of thought and consideration, I ultimately decided to leave them both, which I think was a pretty strong indication to myself that I'm still not overly concerned about coming across these again later.  Man, I'll be kicking myself if that's not the case, and I never come across one again!  But at least they're definitely starting to trickle out a little more now.  It was definitely much heavier than I was expecting.  I might do curls with this thing once I finally grab it.

Oh no!!!  The world is ending!

8 days to jump on that one?  You're losing your touch, FG.  But since I’ve already answered that question several times, I won't bother to do so again here.  How about instead of being a troll, you just go start a thread asking folks here why they collect prequel figures/toys if they generally dislike the prequels?  I know there’s quite a few in the same boat.  You can even use me as an example, if you’d like.  (Yes, I know you honestly don't care one iota how/what others here at JD collect, but please, feel free to play along.)

The distribution of this has been so bizarre in my area. Only two out of I think five super Wal-Marts in the area have this. One store actually sold both that they stocked back in August, but they recently put out three more so I wouldn't be surprised to see the toy on clearance in after Christmas. I'm sure if they shipped just a couple to every store they would sell thru fine, but stocking up on an overpriced toy at limited locations seems like a recipe for disaster.

Just speculation, but I can see TRU having a 50% off sale and selling this for 90 dollars. Having it 50% off and under 100 buck might encourage Christmas mom shoppers to pull the trigger though.

Target is definitely carrying the MTT.  It's In-Stock at Target.com right now (http://www.target.com/p/star-wars-multi-troop-transport-droid-carrier-vehicle/-/A-14035307#prodSlot=medium_1_8&term=Droid) and it has an active DPCI - 087-06-0846 Star Wars Droid Carrier Vehicle $129.99

The last batch of Target intel* said this would be a holiday endcap item and not every store would be getting them.  If you want to know if your store will be carrying it, jump on that Target link above and click the "find in store" button.   "Out of Stock" means it's coming to your store eventually; "not sold at this store" means it's not going to be sold there (duh :P).

* this was as of Celebration VI - plans can and do change I suppose...

I saw this for the first time today (at TRU), at $180.  I'm sure they will be flying off the shelves at that price.  I'm sure they will have some sort of sale and/or coupon as Christmas approaches, but wow, that is a lot for what it is.  There are still AT-ATs sitting at our store for less than that, and that's a vehicle that most to all people know or want.

Ouch.  How much did you pay for it?  I'm sure it looks even cooler than the brown, but I would have a tough time customizing an expensive vehicle like that unless I had a spare.  You should post some pics!

yeah I know man

But what I did was took all of the parts that you have to put on it to assemble it, taped off some places I wanted to leave brown , took off the Canopy and the rear hatch and did it in a blue/ grey CIS livery.
I will post pics sometime, I havnt taken any pics yet.
Im also not the best customizer on the planet but its came out ok except one lil spot where I tried some fancy taping on the canopy to add a grey stripe down the middle so I fixed the fudged part with a "blaster mark"

An update on Target and the MTT -

We got the Target 2012 Top Toys Catalog in the mail this weekend.  On page 38, it shows the MTT for $124.99 (with the $5 off coupon in the catalog) and specifically says ONLINE ONLY.

Also, if you check out the Target.com link that I referenced above, you will now see that it clearly says "not sold in stores" and no longer has the "find in store" search feature enabled.

I'm guessing both of those are pretty strong signs that Target has decided to dump their plans for a special endcap for this thing...  I have a few emails out to some Target contacts, we'll see if someone can verify that change.    :-\

Probably a good idea on their part. :)

Wal-Mart has had it out for a while, TRU will obvioulsy have theirs for a while unless by some miracle it's the hot toy of the season because it's not as widely available as past BFVehicles...  Which I doubt.

Interesting news though Jeff.  I find it kind of neat to witness it flailing about in Target's system.

There's always Amazon I guess, if they have it.  Got my Rep Shuttle so cheap off them, plus free shipping, that I couldn't resist.  It was cheaper than a Class 2 vehicle at the time, right to my door free.

Plus WM clearances stuff (Got AT-TE clearenced there), and TRU may be forced to, to put out more silliness.

The Wal-Mart by my house has 12 of these.  I know they've sold at least 4 before they got in a big shipment.  I doubt these 12 will all sell at full price.  I'll keep an eye out after Christmas for them marked down.

Mine doesn't have 12 on the floor, but they have a lot.  So does my secondary WM, and one I don't get to often that I was at the other day.  They all had at least 4 except my primary store DID sell 1 it seems.

Just noticed Amazon sold out of these at the $129 price.  They are still available on Amazon but sold via BBTS and they are more expensive.

Just throwing this out there for those of you, like me, who are hoping Amazon gets a ton of these in stock and then slashes the crap out of the price as a "gold box deal" or whatever.

Yep... and as of today, from the display that had 12, they are down to 6-7.  This display is in a high traffic part of the store, which has to help.  My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw they had sold a few more.  I walked around checking to see if they had moved some to a different area for more exposure, but it doesn't look to be the case.

Finally caved on the MTT. :-[

I received a one-time use code for Target.com (25% off an item) this past weekend, so I decided to finally grab an MTT.  With the "Top Toy" catalog coupon ($5 off $19+ Star Wars) and my red card (5% off plus free ship), the damage was around $95 with tax.  I probably should have just waited for the clearance sales, but $100 was my line in the sand for these big ships and this purchase was under that, so I can't complain.  Plus, buying it now probably sends a better 'full support' message, which will help when they're deciding on the future of these big vehicles (*cough*www.bringonthebarge.com*cough*).  ;)

That said, this really is a fun toy.  Sounds, motorized parts, a ****load of battle droids (yeah, they are unarticulated junk, but there's a lot of them :P).  Glad to have it in the collection despite it's reputation as just a "big brown turd".
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: DoctorPadawan on November 11, 2012, 12:11 PM
I caved on this earlier this week as well, Jeff.  Given that my retail options are limited to a few Wal-Marts, a single Target, and one TRU, and since each WM only got 2, I figured I may as well bite the bullet.  It wasn't worth the 130 bucks by a longshot (and will probably cost me more as I try to get regular Battle Droids to fill out the rack instead of the statues included), but all in all, it is a pretty fun toy.  I think the timing of it was a huge mistake, what with TPM 3D pretty much disappearing quickly at the box office 8 months before it was released, the overall apathy toward TPM from the general public, and the horrible state at retail in general with SW this year making many people wonder if there were even new SW toys being released.

Toys R Us applying their infamous "Lego Tax" to everything these days isn't helping things either, but given how many of this year's "new" items are in the "see them once and they disappear completely" category, I figured I'd better buy it now and regret it temporarily than not buy it and regret not buying it if/when I never saw it again, clearance or otherwise, in 2013.  After all, TRU is the only retailer that seems to be getting it in large numbers, and they're not exactly known for clearancing things out on a timely basis.

Post by: CHEWIE on November 15, 2012, 11:05 AM
It's good to see a few more people picking this thing up.  I still think it's well worth the full $130 price tag.  By comparison, a case of figures costs about the same thing - and with Hasbro, that's usually more repacks than I can stomach.

So yeah, glad I have it.  If Wal-Mart has more after Christmas and clearances them out, I might grab another.  It will really depend on how the finances look at that point more than anything else.  My hometown Wal-Mart still had 7 of them as of last night.

Pretty good price on the MTT at TRU.com (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12937964).  $90 even with store pickup!  That's a lot easier to stomach than even the $130 it's selling for at WalMart stores.

I finally pulled the trigger on the MTT! Ended up being $96.08 after tax, which I'm perfectly okay with! I didn't want to pay $130, but $100 was the sweet spot I was hoping for. I've wanted an MTT since I was 7 (I grew up with TPM, mind you) so I'm very excited to have it coming!

Yeah, that $96.08 price was tough to pass on.

Did you opt for shipping or the store pickup?

Oh, and this sale was part of TRU's flash deals (http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=16289616&ab=Tru_homepage_aspot:bottom:Flash-Deals-Online-Only-for-a).  They're updated pretty frequently, so you may want to check that page periodically.

I was going to do store pickup but my local store was listed as out of stock, so I had to ship it. And thanks for the heads-up about the flash deal thing, I didn't know TRU was running those. I thought it was weird that the MTT/BMF deals were only for yesterday, but it makes sense now.

Happy to help!  These flash deals are pretty nice.

I have a good number of TRU stores near me, but I had to do some searching to find one store locally that had them in stock.  But it's a weird arrangement.  You have to wait for an email from TRU stating that it's ready for pickup.  I'm wondering if I go into that particular store with my email receipt if they'll just give me mine.  Because part of the deal is that you have to make the pickup within 5 days.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: JediJman on December 10, 2012, 10:19 PM
I think you have to pickup the item within five days of notice that the item arrived in store - not five days from when you order.
Title: Re: 2012 TPM Multi-Troop Transport (MTT)
Post by: Nicklab on December 12, 2012, 05:15 PM
Picked up my MTT today.  TRU really needs to get on the ball about their store pickup system, because they never emailed me about picking mine up.  And after they totally failed to get me an email confirmation for an online order or any kind of shipping notice, I wasn't about to sit around for them to get around to it.  So I turned up at the store which had some 40 MTT's on the floor!  Oh, and the price at this store was $125.99.  It looks like TRU might be trying to get competitive this season when it comes to pricing.

It took a few minutes, but the TRU customer service people were able to find my order and got me hooked up with my $90 MTT.  Gotta love Flash Deals!!!

A Chinese ebay seller has the "rack" Battle Droids at 6 for $10, free shipping. If anyone wanted more of those.

Potential for army fodder but between the built in stands and only 2 joints. Also, no guns included.

I saw this today at Marshall's for $79.99 during my Black Friday travels.

I bought one of these things yesterday for an eye-popping $39 at Marshall's. I figured if nothing else I could at least flip it on the secondary market at some point, but when I got home I realized it was simply too massive for any box I had on hand. (yesthatswhatshesaid) I don't see how I could ever ship this for any reasonable price.

I kinda hate to take it back, but I don't have the space for it sadly.

Just wrap it in brown paper and tape it up real good.

I'll give you $40 and shipping for it if you decide to return it anyway. :)

I'm in Virginia.  :-\

Rob, were just kidding or would you really be interested? I haven't decided one way or another what to do yet.

I meant it.  If you're not looking to turn a profit and were just going to return it anyway and would be willing to do the work to ship it for cost, I'd take it off your hands.  They're about $90 - $95 shipped on Amazon and that's more than i want to pay.

You wouldn't need a box either, just a few brown paper bags to wrap it up in.  I'd be opening it anyway, so if it got banged up a little it wouldn't matter.

No pressure obviously, but if you decide you're not looking to turn a profit and don't want it, let me know.

I grabbed one of these from TJ Maxx for $39 as well.  He's right, this box is massive.

I grabbed one at TJ Maxx last night.  It was 59.99, but that's what I get for living in the North East.  It was kind of hard to find, and I almost missed it because Maxx is such a pigsty.  There was only one and it was standing on it's end behind some other crap on an end cap.  But my toy-senses were tingling, so I was able to sniff it out.

It's a fine toy.  My boys and I messed with it this morning.  However, I didn't buy it earlier because A)  It was something that I didn't really have a huge passion for, and B) was way too pricey when it first hit.  But for 60.00 it was good buy, and a nice once for my collection.

TJ Maxx near me is moving to a new location. All clearance was an aditional 40% off. So the MTT was about $34 + tax. Not a bad price for this monster. My son and i had putting it together this morning. I guess i gotta find the littler speeder thing that goes with it now...

Hmmm....I'd like another at that price.  Might have to hit up the discount stores to see if there's any left.

Rob - you still need one ?

It's still on my list, yep.  But I'm not in a hurry to spend a fortune on one.  If they're laying around for under $40 I'm interested even with the shipping cost.  If you stumble across more than you need, and don't mind wrapping one up and shipping it... :)

I'm going to run out to the two nearby ones to see if there's any left around here.

EDIT:  Struck out.

Saw one for $59 tonight and man, I can't do it...  Half that, maybe.

And thanks to my local buddy Jim, I now have an MTT for $31 which I intend to customize into a more believable vehicle for the size...  Something of a Squad level transport, or even maybe just basically a "cargo truck" type of vehicle.

I like the idea of a squad-size armored vehicle for the Separatists that would be sent into urban environments though.  Smaller, easier to maneuver, maybe a little zippier.  Maybe a little bit of a defense upward towards higher levels of buildings?  I have some ideas anyway.

Either way, for $31 it's tough to pass up any vehicle this large.

I'd love to see pics when you do this... I know projects like that take a long time though - I have ideas I've been toiling around with for years but haven't started on yet.

I've got two of these that I paid much more for, and am hesitant to customize one for some reason.  If I can score one on the cheap though, it could make for a great project this summer.

Yeah if I made a list of the "I want to......"'s I'd have one hell of a long list.  I have a ton of things on the table all the time.  Rarely much time to finish them.  I've had my Turbo Tank torn apart since I bought it.  I should put it back together till I'm finally ready, as I really just needed to see it apart first.

There is some precedent for this type of vehicle. An older video game (Clone Wars or Jedi Starfighter I think) featured this vehicle: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Multi-Utility_Transport

I was able to get a 3rd one last night - $39.00 was fine.  If I ever get around to customizing it I'll share pics.  My version would be a relic though of one during the OT era... some sort of battlefield graveyard.

I hit 4 of these stores this week and finally found my 2nd for $39.  Last one there - box was open and a little beat up but its all there.  I just might display it in the bathroom.  I think I got my original for somewhere around there on Amazon somehow a while back.  Now I need to find a 2nd mini-rig-thing-mobile.

Rob I have a couple more stores I can try before the well dries up.

Amazingly, I wandered into a TJ Maxx today and stumbled across a lone MTT.  Looked like it had been wrapped as a birthday gift and returned later (had a piece of tape with some paper on it).  It was open, but seemed complete.  I got it home and everything was in good order but there were no stickers, which isn't a big deal since I don't typically put those on anyway.  I'm going to email Hasbro to see if they maybe can send a sheet, but whatever.

Can't beat it for $39.

Well, it would seem that YES, YOU CAN BEAT $39.  Toys R Us stores are now clearancing out the MTT.  The current price?  $33!!!  I may pick up another now.

Impressive.  The TRU's near me haven't had the MTT in awhile.  It's all Endor AT-AT's and X-Wings.

I'd love to find one of those AT-AT's on clearance at some point...
