I watched this last night for the first time in at least 10 years (it was on ESPN Classic) What a total schlock fest, Daniel-San still brings a small tear to my eye when he knocks out Johnny with "The Kick"

I also like breaking out that move around my brother, its unstoppable

I watched it on ESPNC as well :) Great flick

Yep, one of those classics that'll always be a little cheesy, but will still be "moving" to most people (not that I'd admit that :P). I still find myself saying "paint the fence, wax the car" from time to time. ;)
I liked Karate Kid II a lot as well. The Japanese girl (don't recall her name right now) in that one was very cool... :-* :-* :-*

Funny, and here I thought you'd be saying wax on, whacks off :-*
Sorry, having a bad spelling day.

Ahhh yes grasshopper. Classic indeed. I haven't saw that in atleast 10 years as well.
-
I remember watching DanielSan quite a few times one summer, it really got to me how cheesy Ralph Macchio must have felt playing this 16 Year Old at the ripe old age of 23!!!

Um...that would be "the Crane kick" (if do right, there is no defense). Show some respect to the man.
:)
So...did anyone catch Hillary Swank in the Karate Kid 4? I unfortunately did, and still wonder to this day who would win in a fight. Daniel-San or Julie...san.
-
Look eye, look eye! Always look eye.
Bonzaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...........
-
The Crane Kick, excellent, its always good for a laugh as well when you move into the position.
I'm still wondering how 23 year old Daniel-San was able to pull off a 16 year old wimp
-
I ran into these guys on Halloween last year in Vegas at Comic Con.
Apparently, they were having a bachelor party, so the bachelor is Daniel San in the white...and the rest of the guys were Cobra Kai. There were like 15 of them. They also had ANOTHER Daniel San in the shower-costume.
Pretty cool idea.
Keeping the movies alive. :)
(I've got pictures, but the stupid link isn't working today for some reason).

Oh man do those look HORRIBLE!
-
FYI...William Zabka aka Johnny was nominated for an Oscar for his Short Film "Most", just like in KK he got a shot to the chops as he didn't win ****
-
I own this movie on DVD, and I love it, great movie. I remember going to see it at the theater when I was a kid.

Good job picking the gayest possible pic to represent the flick! :D
-
I'm glad someone finally commented on that, I'm wondering if Miyagi and Daniel-San were practicing Wax On Wax Off in more ways than one??? (Not that there's anything wrong with that...although D-S was only supposed to be 16)

Caught this again last night on ABC Family I think. Like The Goonies...they just don't make movies like this anymore :'(
And...Elizabeth Shue...wow what a hottie!

We caught this on ABC Family again last night too. Its funny, the Mrs. and I were saying the exact same thing - movies like this, and the Goonies, are so great and it just doesn't seem like they make them like this anymore. I know my family/friends enjoyed movies like that when I was growing up - even into teenage years, but if they were made these days they would probably have to target a much younger crowd. Teenagers now are often too cynical to just enjoy movies like these it seems. This is one movie I always mean to pick up on DVD, but never have, but it was nice to see it again last night.
-
With Rocky, Rambo, Die Hard, and Indy all being revisited, can a new Karate Kid be far behind?
You should definitely pick up the DVD set...My kids love watching the original...II was a fun trip down memory lane...III is worth having just to see how horrible a movie can become. IV is more like a made for TV movie....but entertaining.

The success of this movie was its argument as a bildungroman or learning novel, the skill is the martial art which lets the hero grow.
The music was incredible with songs like "cruel summer", "moment of truth", "you´re the best"
parts I and II were the best.

I saw wear Ralph Macchio (sp?) is now in his fifties. That makes me feel really old.
-
Sad to say there is a NEW "urban" Karate Kid on the way. they showed the trailer on the Alvin and chipmonks movie.
-
Macchio still looks like a kid. He was in Beer League a couple years ago, and honestly he doesn't look like he's aged much. Good for him I guess.
-
Wasn't he close to thirty when he made the first Karate Kid?

Ralph turned 23 (born 11/4/1961) the year The Karate Kid was released (1984).
