Title: Clone Wars 3D
Post by: Scott on June 1, 2005, 09:41 AM
So, we already know most of the Clone Wars stories from the first parts of the Cartoon.  Do you think this new show will try and flesh out some of the stories in between the end of Attack of the Clones and the capture of Palpatine at the end of Clone Wars?

Seems like a silly idea to me as the bulk of the story has already been told....but the cartoon was so well done I wouldn't mind seeing what they have in store

I'd like them to hit rewind and just start right after the Battle of Geonosis, like you say. Different fronts, different planets, and not entirely Anakin/Obi-centered, just like the previous ones. It's the perfect opportunity to make Jedi like Ki-Adi Mundi, Shaak-Ti, and others into full-fledged characters along with their named Clone Commanders. It would make their final moments in ROTS all the better.

What I'm wondering is: will the 3D animation be cartoonish style, or will they go the Final Fantasy route and try to do photorealistic humans? I hope it's the former.

I, too, hope they focus on others besides Obi and Ani, since their exploits are already well-documented.

We know that the creators of the upcoming series are reading the existing Clone Wars books, comics, and other materials. (This is a good sign, for the third season outright contradicted a number of books and comics. In terms of EU continuity it was a total trainwreck; there's really no nicer way to put it.)

Does Anyone have any info. on the new 3D Clone Wars cartoon. For example
The Date  for the First Day on the Air?
The Channel?
How long is each Episode?

There's really no concrete info yet.  I believe that clips will be shown at Celebration 4 and that they will anounce the schedule and station at that time.  However, I don't think it will hit before November 2007.

I was listening to a podcast this afternoon (SW Action News), and they mentioned that they had it confirmed to them that the Yoda pic shown in this pic (advertising the animated series in 2008) is actually a shot from the animation - so we have some idea of what it might look like.  Kind of cool:

gotta say i was really hoping that wasn't a sneak peak at the cartoon, but the fett helmet for the tv show is great news!

hey maybe we'll get to see concord dawn and Sintas & Ailyn Vel (well atleast as a baby)....

either way the cartoon & indy IV sound like dung

and the live action will probably be awesome. hell maybe it'll even legitimize the work of all the various EU authors whose work is widely disregarded, while the majority of the fan-base flocks to the clone wars cartoons forgetting that there EU as well lol

always loved that massive hypocrisy....

I didn't think the cartoon sounded bad myself...  I was hoping they were going with the same creative teams for it, that's my huge disappointment, but I think that Yoda looks kind of slick myself.

Fett's helmet is intriguing...  Will we be seeing why he's kind of desintegrations? :)

I have high hopes for both...  The Young Indy show wasn't bad, and had great production values.  I think with modern effects capabilities that the live action show has a possibly VERY bright future.

I LOVE that Yoda design.  Very, very unique and stylized.  If the show looks that good all over, I'm really looking forward to it.  I hope it really just looks like the CW Cartoon in three dimensions.

I'm excited about the animation release.  Nice depiction of Yoda on the poster.  I really liked the CW volumes.  I would have liked them more probably if they were longer.

Sounds like Lucas was talking about both the Animated Series and Live Action version this past weekend, you can get some info HERE (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31763) and HERE (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=19183).  From what I gather from this info, there is going to be 100 episodes produced of the animated series - and they are still looking for a network/venue to air them.  I thought originally the "100 episode" thing had been said regarding the live action series, so maybe someone is mixed up - or maybe it applies to both.  He also says the live action series is "years away", and that there might actually be another animated series going by the time the live action one comes around.  As someone who really enjoyed the initial Clone Wars "shorts", I'm really looking forward to the new animated series.  If there does happen to be another animated series after that, I wouldn't mind seeing them tackle the OT a little bit - if it is done well.

funny thing to me is, the poster is already ruined by the lack of force unleashed this year.

i'm really starting to wonder if donald rumsfeld is now in charge of lucasfilm.

I think it's good that Lucasfilm pushes things back if they're not ready.  I'd rather have a great game in 2008, than a crummy one in 2007.

I am...  likin' it.

Definitely keeping some of the 2D look but upgrading.  Sleeker, more adult looking...  I'd take some figures from this.  Hell I already would dig that ARC Trooper as a basic figure. :)

Damn. That is pretty sharp. I really how it looks like a hybrid of the Clone Wars 1 type animation and Toy Story (Pixar) styled animation. Visually it looks like the show is going to be fantastic. Hopefully the story is up to par. I've got high hopes for CW now. :)

Post by: Brian on May 18, 2007, 10:37 AM
Its nice to finally get a little more of a look at what this series could be.  I think this poster looks pretty sweet, and I like the look of the series overall.  In the past, I haven't necessarily been a fan of "CG-toons", but these designs look nice.  I'm not sure who the Jedi in the back is, but did Lucas mention a "new" character that was the same species of Shaak Ti?  A padawan, if I remember correctly, but I can't recall the name right now off hand.

I'm actually surprised this isn't getting that much buzz at the moment, but maybe people are still finding their way to the pic/poster and forums.  Hopefully people at C4 will get a look at some of the series in action, and we'll see how things are looking.  I know I'm looking forward to it, and wish it was coming this year yet.

I noticed at the Official Site (http://www.starwars.com/) today that they have that Clone Wars Yoda pic with the caption "Come Back Sunday at 11:30 AM Pacific Time for a MUST SEE SURPRISE!"  Maybe we'll get a look at the upcoming series online - that would be nice for those of us who can't make it to C4.

still more excited over force unleashed and the continuing legacy series(book and comics).
this however looks like it could be really good, if it keeps a serious tone throughout, however the voice acting seems to be about as bad as it was on the 2-d version. anyone catch the death star laser prototype nod, wonder how there gonna retcon that, like i think something that scary would have everybody still stammering over in it ep3. I'm really wondering if were gonna get durge, quinlan vos and sora bulq as well...but indy 4? ppl are actually excited over that? lol...anyone read the spoilers? sounds like supershadow has been hired by lfl.

but this really has potential.

I think this looks pretty cool as well.  I keep re-watching the teaser, and I'm glad we are able to get a little bit of a sneak peek at the series.  They could probably make a heck of a fun action figure line alongside this as well (hopefully/likely "realistic" style), with vehicles and all.  I thought I had decided I'd have to give up on prequel vehicles (because of space), but after seeing this, it makes it more difficult :P.

I was just reading through some of the discussion from the panel (http://starwarsblog.wordpress.com/2007/05/27/the-clone-wars-panel-discussions/) for Clone Wars.  Everything sounds good to me, and I can't wait for the series to start.  Unfortunately, it sounds like it isn't scheduled to begin in fall of 2008.  I realize this fall might have been a little unrealistic, but the beginning of 2008 would have been nice :).

A fall release is more feasible. A mid-season fill-in/debut is not very Lucas-like.

This does look cool, but I really cant help thinking this is a missed opportunity, I mean we all know how the Clone Wars end, who lives in the series etc. Why they didnt do this series in the Old Republic is a mystery to me, it would have been filled with so much potential for some truly great stories and NEW characters. Clones Wars should have been Tales of the Old Republic, still I can hope, if this takes off maybe they will make something like it.

I don't know that a KOTOR series would've held up though.  Kids and really adults too need those main characters to keep their attention.  KOTOR would be learning a whole new cast of characters and for many that's just not an option.

I dunno, Most kids see lightsaber and think Jedi, for us older kids we would be the ones getting into the characters, they could have the robots, The mandoralians - kids think fetts, baddies - sith. I just checked that theory with my kids 6 & 4 and those were the responses I got, lightsaber = jedi, red lightsaber = baddie. Oh well I have high hopes for this and hope they have decent voice actors, or all the eye candy is wasted.

This article (http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2007/08/27/monday-mousewatch-is-disney-getting-ready-to-send-in-the-clones.aspx) discusses some rumors that Disney is really hoping to land the new Clone Wars animated series, as well as the upcoming live action series in the future (it also discusses further Star Wars presence in the "tomorrowland" section of Disney's parks.  More info at the linky.  It sounds like the others making strong bids for the Clone Wars series are Fox and HBO.  Personally, I kind of hope its not HBO, just because we don't get it and I'd hate to pay for the channel just to view these shows :P.

I would not mind Disney getting the animated series.  I actually like the fact that Disney does the Star Wars weekends and other merchandise throughout the year.  It will give me something to look at when my family goes to Disneyland next fall :)

I think the live action show would go to Fox.  I would really be upset if HBO got it.  I won't be paying an increased cable bill for HBO.  I would think Fox would have the inside track on everything with the history of all 6 films via 20th Century Fox.  Oh well, time will tell.  It's nice to be talking about future Star Wars projects at least.

I read somewhere today that the first three episodes will be released theatrically in the UK

You all know about the Clone Wars animated Series coming out, right? Well it's hitting this September, and will kick off (in the UK at least) with a cinematic release of the first 3 episodes (note this was confirmed by a couple of Star Wars licensees other than Hasbro). The rest of the episodes will then come out on a yet undecided TV channel.

I wonder if they'll do the same thing here?

We need to feature a hot cartoon Jedi so lets make up a Jedi that is not Shaak Ti but looks like Shaak Ti and will be Anakin's Padawan even though he himself is still a Padawan at the start of the Clone Wars...this is about as dumb of an idea as I have seen in a long, long while

What I really don't get here is where this whole thing fits in the continuity of the EXISTING Clone Wars stories, let alone the movies.  Seriously, this is dumb

What I don't get is why Lucas hates us.  This... thing... is clearly a punishment.  Maybe we should get together and apologize for building him an empire on a foundation of nerdiness instead of leather jackets, hot rods, and being cool?  I don't know.  He just hates us so freaking hard.

I read somewhere today that the first three episodes will be released theatrically in the UK

http://www.action-figure.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=22558

Quote
You all know about the Clone Wars animated Series coming out, right? Well it's hitting this September, and will kick off (in the UK at least) with a cinematic release of the first 3 episodes (note this was confirmed by a couple of Star Wars licensees other than Hasbro). The rest of the episodes will then come out on a yet undecided TV channel.

I wonder if they'll do the same thing here?

That's what the rumor has been since that Hasbro meeting later last year, and I really hope that it turns out to be true.  It won't be exactly the same, but it would be nice to look forward to a "Star Wars movie release" again.  I'm really looking forward to this series overall, and hopefully it turns out (and is received) well.  I thought I heard the rumored date for the "movie" release was in August (8th?).  Hopefully we'll hear something at Toy Fair.

Wow, in theaters on 08-15-08 (http://www.starwars.com/theclonewars/news/announcement.html#hljs) and then in 30min episodes on Cartoon Network and TNT in the fall.

Nice to finally get that "theater release part" officially confirmed.  :)

TNT is one of the stationed owned by Ted Turner  like TBS and a few others, the good thing about that station is they play everything a few hundred times in a week.

TNT is on almost every Basic Cable package in the US.  I would be surprised if you don't have TNT.  They're a premier platform for syndicated programming, and have gotten into original programming and even sports.  They air NBA games, so they're in a lot of markets.

Its great to finally get "official" confirmation on the movie being in theatres, and now we know where Clone Wars will be airing.  Glad to hear it will be on Cartoon Network and TNT, which I think are pretty common stations for most people (both are part of our basic package here anyways).  It will be great looking forward to new Star Wars each week, and as much as I enjoyed the previous series, it will be nice to have full half hours and an ongoing show.

To be honest, I'm a little surprised there isn't more excitement on the forums about the series (although we just got official announcements last night).  Usually when there is a new announcement/pics/trailer, there are screen caps, speculation, etc. all over the boards.  Of course, this is a different beast altogether I guess, with it being animation and all of that.  Personally, I'm pretty excited that we'll have another chance to see "new" Star Wars on the big screen.  With the family market for animated movies these days, it could do quite well.  The fact that we'll get an ongoing series is even better.  From the trailers/clips so far, it looks pretty cool I think - hopefully people like it.

I just went over and read the offical sight,  For our freind in the great white north,  the announcement says international detail would be released shortly.  So if you don't have the cartoon network or the many Ted Turner neworks, I am sure you will be getting it on one of your stations.  GL to want your money too.  Don't worry.  It is worth more then the greenbacks these days.

I am sure as we start to see more advertising and promos pumping the release and offical timeslot on TV. I will be more excited.   these days with all the pushing back we are hearing about Star Wars.   I am getting numb to it all, When it gets here it gets here.  Just like The Force Unleased, Wave 3, Comic Packs, Episode VII, etc.

I'm really glad there is some form of new Star Wars coming to theaters. One of my friends (who isn't really into SW, but incidentally really liked the first Clone Wars cartoon when I showed it to him) and I are already planning on hitting up the midnight showing. I'm cautiously optimistic about the show at this point. Because it is Star Wars I'll be giving it the benefit of the doubt and watching the entire first season no matter what. Beyond year one however will be entirely dependant on the quality of the show. I usually judge quality on whether or not the story involves complex characters that I feel emotionally involved with and whether or not there are intriguing, complex, original plot lines. If this show is nothing more that GL showing off what his guys can do with a computer, I'm out. I'm still not really thrilled with the idea of Anakin having a padawan. I guess we will have to wait and see how that one pans out.

I'm a little confused on the Cartoon Network/TNT scheduling. Do new episodes air first on Cartoon Network then re-air on TNT, or do the plan to air new episodes on both networks simultaneously?

Well... I have mixed feelings about this. Sure I'll see it, but I really doubt it'll make a lot of money at the theaters.

Also, glad to see TNT is taking 30 minutes out of their 24/7 lineup of Law and Order reruns to air something interesting.

I read an article on TF.N this morning saying that in recent interviews both Samuel Jackson and Hayden Christiansen said they would be happy to lend their voices to the animated series.  I'm pretty sure they've already got the voice actors lined up from the previous Clone Wars series, but it would be cool to hear these two voicing their characters.

"I usually judge quality on whether or not the story involves complex characters that I feel emotionally involved with and whether or not there are intriguing, complex, original plot lines. "

I find this comment really odd.  To me, the whole point of Star Wars, is it not complex.  It's simple.  Bad guys, good guys, blow up the Death Star, y'know, get some kicks while your at it.  The whole reason SW became a phenomenon in 1977 was that is was simple characters and stories set against a visual style was was more complex than anything ever put on screen.

Thanks for posting that Rune.  Kind of cool that he may show up in the series.  I can see it now, Hasbro finally does an all-new Jabba, but it will be in animated style ;).  Just kidding...I hope.  To be honest, I've said it before, but I wouldn't mind seeing some OT era stories in the (or another) animated series - so its kind of cool to see a primarily OT character (like Jabba) in this animated form.  It sounds like Lucas also confirmed that Boba Fett will appear in the Clone Wars series as well, from what I have heard/read.

ToonZone (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=22716) has coverage up of the Cartoon Network upfront, where it was announced that Clone Wars will anchor a Friday night "action block" of toons for the network.  No official date has been given, other than "fall", but it will appear alongside a new Batman cartoon (The Brave and the Bold), as well as a new Ben 10 toon.

Also, it sounds like a new theatrical trailer (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=43472) for Clone Wars will premiere on May 9th with Speed Racer.

I was actually just coming over here to post about that as well Jesse.  I was able to catch it while it was online, and I thought it looked great too.  I'm surprised at how little talk the upcoming CW movie and series gets right now.  I know its animated and everything, but it still looks pretty sweet to me.  The trailer did look really cool.  From what I understand, its supposed to be released on May 9th with Speed Racer, so hopefully a nice quality version will pop up online then.

There's so much ass kicking with Clones I can't help but dig it...  Very military-feeling (or at least the trailer is), so I'm pretty geeked over that.  The new Trailer really lays out a bit of the storyline for you too.

If you find a good link to it, it's "spoiler-ish" if you're really trying to avoid all info on it.

I'm wondering now if that "Clone Shuttle" listing in toys that's come up from time to time is actually a Clone Shuttle and not a mistake for the V-19.  Anakin's B-Wing-ish looking ship appears to be a shuttle packed with Clonies in it.
Title: Re: Clone Wars 3D

It looks like the trailer is still online in some places, and after watching it again, it really does look spiffy.  Like Jesse said, a very military and "war time" like feel to it.  Although it isn't live action, it does really open the doors for them to do a lot in this area.  I wonder if this is the only theatrical release that we'll see, or if there will be more movies done in this style.  Either way, I'm looking forward to it (and the series) quite a bit.

Just another side note after watching the trailer, but doesn't that really sounds like Sam Jackson's voice for Mace (in the holo transmission part)?  Its always tough to tell, because the voice actors are pretty good at sounding close to the original actors, but to me it really sounds like SLJ for some reason.

I'm still not keen on the new "Ahsoka" character, but the rest of this thing is absolutely sick.

And I really dig the intro use of the music "Tales of a Jedi Knight/Learn About the Force" from the ANH soundtrack which is, if memory serves, a deleted track. The new music in the middle is pretty tight as well. "Duel of the Fates" is played out these days, but it's the second or third best piece of music composed for the saga so I can understand why everyone always wants a piece of it.

Also, Brian, I'm 90% sure that's Sam Jackson as Windu. Although are we sure this isn't just a reused line from AOTC? (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y151/ValinKenobi/Forums/thinking.gif)

Anyhow, I can't wait. This thing is so ******* metal.

Yeah, it sure sounds like Sam Jackson to me, but you're right, it might be recycled.  I do remember during the press for "Jumper", SLJ said that he was interested in voicing the character in the movie/series, and he wanted LFL to know that.  We'll see I guess.

I didn't know if it was ok to discuss the trailer here or not (due to spoilers), but the story does look interesting to me - and the action looks amazing.

What does everyone think about the inclusion of Jabba?  I know some may think the "Jabba's son" think is hokey, but I'll admit I thought it was kind of cool to see Obi-Wan standing before him in the Palace, in Jedi robes.  I've also read discussion online that some think that in the Mace/Yoda holo scene, they are talking to Tarkin (and another Imperial).  I wouldn't mind seeing few more of those OT ties, bridging things together.  One thing with the Jabba appearance in the movie (and maybe the series), maybe this will increase our chance of a new dais set (hopefully in realistic style).

Its surprising to me how little hype this seems to be getting right now.  Granted, its animated, so maybe that has something to do with it - but if this was a leak of the ROTS trailer, this would be the busiest forum here.  But, this has basically been online (somewhere or other) all week, and its only a few of us that have even noticed.  I hope that this movie is still well received when it is released, because it does look pretty neat to me so far.  Maybe people are Star Warsed-out, or maybe just not a fan of animated stuff (or the particular style), or maybe people are just waiting for the official release of the trailer.  I guess I've always enjoyed animation (Pixar stuff, and even TV toons), and Star Wars, so this is looking good to me.  And I'm not saying at all "everyone should be excited for this", because to each their own, I'm just a little surprised how little talk its getting at this point.

Normally I do everything I can to avoid spoilers, but the trailer drew me in quite quickly and I couldn't look away as parts of the initial plot were given away.  My initial reaction was that it was lame to see them using Jabba's son.  However, I can appreciate them trying to tie the trilogies together, and the more I think about it the more I enjoy the irony in seeing the Jedis assisting "the bad guys".

I'm not sure yet on exactly my opinon on Jabba but it seems fairly normal/fine...  His "kid" aspect sounds amusing and Jabba's history isn't really laid out yet that I'm aware...  The fact he has a son doesn't really bother me or anything.  I can see (if the Hutts are powerful) the plot-point with the Separatists wanting them to either ally with them or at least turn on the Jedi.  How they're accomplishing that I don't know...  I could see some cool manipulation going on though like kidnapping the little one and blaming it on the Republic.

Either way, I'm not bothered by him being in it really at all.  Sorta tired of Tatooine but that's neither here nor there.

Jackson were confirmed voices for the movie, but didn't mention for the whole of the TV series.  Also mentions in the article that if some of the stars from the movies are willing to be apart of the cartoon would it be possible for some post ROTJ cartoon at some point, with some of the OT cast viocing for their characters.  Lucas said there was no story for him to do that, it's been covered by the books and what not.  I personally found it interesting that Lucas didn't mention anything about in between ANH & ESB.

I watched it today. It was actually pretty cool.

A few things I noticed (if you didn't watch the trailer to avoid spoilers, you may not want to read my post...)

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

I LIKED:
The animation. The tri-droids, Kit Fisto, and Plo Koon in particular really stood out and most of the characters (with the exception of Dooku and Obi IMO) look really amazing in this style.
I think I saw Tarkin standing there next to the holographic message of Mace Windu, as well as a Jango clone in an officer outfit. If that was Tarkin it should be interesting to see his character in the PT era. I always wished he had played some kind of role in ROTS.
And the trailer overall just made me a lot more excited than I had been about this. Even though it's probably gonna end up being a mediocre, kid-targetted movie/show in the end with little regard for Clone Wars continuity (Ahsoka).

I DISLIKED:
Anakin vs. Dooku? I don't like the idea of a duel between them in between AOTC and ROTS. Part of the 'effect' of the lightsaber duel at the beginning of ROTS was that it was a rematch from the AOTC duel, and that Anakin was finally getting his long-awaited revenge against Dooku. So I just think that's kinda lame. :-\
Ahsoka, because I just don't like the idea of Anakin getting a Padawan, as cool looking as she is.
Something about the way Obi and Dooku are animated just doesn't look right for some reason.

It was nice to see this trailer in crisp, clear quality.  I know that it appears the buzz for this isn't nearly what it was for the live-action "regular" movies, but I'm really looking forward to it.  It looks pretty good so far, and hopefully it opens the doors to seeing some other movies in the future.  Its too bad Lucas kind of put the kibosh on the possibility of post-ROTJ Star Wars, because I think it would be kind of neat to see the Thrawn trilogy - even if it was in this animated form.  Heck, they could probably get quite a few of the original actors in to do voices, aside from Harrison Ford anyways.  I personally would like to see some animated OT at some point, but I might be in the minority there.  Anyways, trailer looks good, looking forward to seeing this one.

So has anyone else caught the trailer?  Its funny how little discussion there is for a "new Star Wars trailer" compared to when the live action movies came out.  Granted, its not the same thing, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of excitement for this movie quite yet.  Although, like I said, its not the same as say...the ROTS trailer(s)...I have to say I'm pretty excited for this.  Maybe we should have started a new thread for the trailer or something.  Anything in particular you liked or disliked about the trailer overall?
Title: Re: Clone Wars 3D
Post by: Reid on May 16, 2008, 09:37 PM
Truthfully, I'm not that excited for the CW series or movie. I think it's a little too soon after the last CW series, and it seems in the last 3-5 years we've had an overdose of PT/CW era "stuff"- whether it be action figures, ROTS, comics, the said TV series, etc. If they made an animated series set during the "dark times"- or, better yet, right after ROTJ, where we would get to see the Alliance/New Republic dealing with the collapse of the Empire, etc, now that would be amazing.

I think it's because it's not a movie...  I caught the trailer online long before it was out too, and also it didn't really expand on the original trailer, which got much more attention.  It just isn't different enough I guess.

I don't know if it is still up, but there was a two minute clip (http://youtube.com/watch?v=dxyYCfvlGWk) up on YouTube from the upcoming Clone Wars movie.  It was apparently shown at Star Wars weekends or something like that.  This is basically the "cliff" battle that has been seen in the previews.

I watched it on youtube, and it's neat...  Grainy and poor sound though, so it's sorta tough to watch it with glee right now, but the action in it was quite neat, and I liked the dialogue for the most part...  Entertaining.  The droids seem like they'll be the same bumbling dolts as in E3.

Figures...

For those who missed it, it didn't show a whole lot of plot or anything, so no real worries there...  All mostly action, as noted, from the wall-scalling bits we see in the trailer.  Pretty cool stuff to view, but not much substance really.  It just made me look more forward to the toon...  Very nice action.

Oooh... I like this new trailer.  :)

That squid-y ship is pretty cool and I like the shot of the clone getting blasted by the SBD.  I also like the ship that looks sort of like a B-Wing precursor, it goes nice with that Y-Wing type ship they've got in there too.

Agreed - I'm seeing new droid types, new ships, new Clone Paint schemes, new background characters/aliens, etc.

I have to admit, with each new preview and tidbit I do get a bit more excited for this movie... it's funny how much it's really grown on me over the last few months since Toy Fair.

Yep, and I am hoping for a Sail Barge 3 3/4 vehicle.  Please Hasbro please!!!  Anyway I am pretty excited for the movie/series.  Do not get me wrong.  I would rather see a real Star Wars live-action movie/trilogy but this will do for me until the live-action TV ever sees the light of day.

Nice surprise with a new trailer yesterday.  Like Jeff mentioned, I get a little more excited each time I see more from this movie/series.  Its definitely opening up new options for characters/vehicles (that squid-y thing is pretty spiffy - and I hope this leads to a 3 3/4" Sail Barge at some point), which could be cool (lack of space aside).  Admittedly its only a couple of trailers (which usually look cool), but so far this looks like it could be pretty good.  I could see the same type of comments that came about with the original animated series: "this is what they should have done with the prequels".  I could see more focus on the Anakin/Obi-Wan friendship, lots more clones/battles/action, and time to develop supporting characters as well.  I'm looking forward to it.

The trailer was very cool.  Especially realizing that Christopher Lee is voicing Count Dooku.  A very nice surprise there.

The action was awesome.  That squid ship that takes out the Sail Barge must be ENORMOUS!  Can't wait for August to roll around so that I can see this.

I was just watching the trailer again (still looks great), and although it is unlikely, Obi-Wan's one line in there really sounds like Ewan McGregor to me.  Who knows, with some of the other cast returning (at least for the theatrical run), but if it isn't - it sure is a good sound-alike.

Again, this really looks pretty nifty.  I think Lucasfilm (and Hasbro) could have a real winner here with a weekly series.  Hopefully it turns out as good as it looks so far, because it would be really cool to have a weekly dose of "new" Star Wars to look forward to.

I may be out of the loop on this, but...

What are the odds CW-3D will be in IMAX anywhere?  My nearby theater has an IMAX screen (it's a new place) and the more I see of this, the more I drool at the thought of it being in IMAX...

Any mention of that anywhere that I missed?

It would be cool to see Clone Wars on it as well...but I'm sure it will at least be digital.

Saw the movie this morning and it was amazing worth seeing for sure. This movie had the star wars feel for me, good story, great new characters (Ahsoka, Captain Rex, more Ventress and Dooku.), animation is awesome, score was great and the action is bad a$$.

I think people that had issues with the prequels should go in with an open mind because this is the next generation of star wars. I think the live action show will be cool but with animation you have so many more options. If this movie and show go over well then the sky's the limit for what they can do with the franchise.

So in my opinion it was amazing go check it out.

Some thoughts...

-Kit Fisto's apprentice?  Pretty cool...

-Kit Fisto's Voice?  Matches his "ah!" he lets out in Palp's office when he's cut down, which I think is cool they made sure to try and match it.

-Armored Y-Wings...  Very cool, and will we ever see a (to-scale) toy?  If so I think I'd go nutty over that.

-Clone armament...  Very cool seeing the mini-gun dusted off and brought out of storage from the 2D toon.  If I may suggest, head on over to Marauder Inc. and buy their mini-gun accessory for your Clones NOW.  It rocks socks.

-Yoda...  Cool, badass as always, fights with his mind more than a weapon, and his talkign with the Clones seems very cool, like he truly wants to see them become more than they are.  It's kind of sad when you think about it.

-Grievous...  Way cooler than ROTS, and way more tough like he should've been in ROTS.

I loved the film, so maybe I'm biased, but the preview tonight has me excited for something to watch every week, finally.

I liked the preview.  I did not really care for the movie much.  However, the TV series looks promising.  The Mon Cal Jedi (or Padawan?) was pretty cool I thought.  I will probably like checking this show out just for little things like that.  Plus, McQuarrie's Airwhales are back.  The Y-Wing looked nice.  Plus it's nice to hear their take on what Plo Koon would sound like.  I am sure there are gonna be some groan moments to but it will fun to check out.  I like Yoda kicking some droids around and General Grievous dishing it out.  The little scene of Dooku and Grievous trying to get Anakin and the Jedi in the debris field was fun.  I even got a little kick out of seeing 2-1B (it's probably 2-2C but you know what I mean).

For anyone interested, it looks like the Clone Wars Web Comic (http://www.starwars.com/clonewars/comic/) is up at the Official Site.  Its also available to anyone (not just Hyperspace members) so that's a plus.  I think its supposed to be supplemental to the series itself, from what I understand.  I also noticed that on the StarWars.com front page you can see previews for each of tonight's episodes, both look pretty cool to me.

So, is everyone tuning in tonight?  I've got the DVR set, but I think we'll be home to catch them anyways.  Speaking of the series, should we start a fresh new thread to discuss the episodes each week (like an "Official Clone Wars: The Animated Series" thread, or just continue on here?  Definitely looking forward to tonight's episodes, it seems like early reviews have been pretty positive.

Pretty sure they said they'd rerun Friday's episode(s) Saturday night at 8pm.

I'm sure between Toon Network and TNT (and probably TBS) you'll see them at some point.

Though I hightly suggest a DVR if you can get one.  Man they rock.  Just got one a while back and they're godsends for convenience and quality.  Didn't cost much through comcast to rent it.

If you guys want a "Series" CW3D thread go for it.  I'm not gonna stop ya.
