Yeah, this might belong over in the Other Collectibles forum, but since these have been all the rage with the 4/2 figure release, I figured I'd pop it in over here instead...
So, as most of you are probably already aware of, Target was offering a very cool exclusive collectible Target Star Wars gift card this past week. I'd heard about it, and had planned on grabbing one, but in my laziness I let it slip my mind most of the week. So today, in a slight panic, I scoped out our 3 closest Targets during lunch, and they were all completely sold out everywhere - long ago according to the cashiers and customer service folks I talked to. But I hit one more Target on the way home and asked their customer service people, and it turned out they still had a couple of them behind the counter. So I of course bought them both, for $5 each, which I turned right around and just spent on an extra deluxe figure that I still needed anyway, and wallah - 2 free gift card collectibles! 8)
Now if you haven't seen or heard about the specifics on this thing (like me), it's actually pretty thick - about the size of 6 credit cards stacked together. That's because it's got electronics built into it, and when you push an area on it, Vader's lightsaber lights up in red and starts humming, and then Vader's famous breathing starts up for several seconds (a windblown picture of Vader is on the front of the thing, in front of a bunch of spewing Lava).
It's a pretty fun and unique little collectible to add to the collection, so I'm glad I was able to track it down finally, before it was too late. I'd recommend folks try the same this weekend, if they haven't already. And ask behind the customer service counter for them if you don't see them in the store anywhere. That might help...
So, who else picked one of these suckers up?
-
Every Target I check, they're out of stock. Did you actually put money on it or was it a five finger discount? :P

I went in yesterday looking for them, and they just laughed at me.
Well, not so much that, but they told me they were long gone. Oh well. I probably would have lost it anyway.
-
Matt,
Thanks for reminding me. I went to my local Target and picked up the last two today.
The giftcard is tight, dope, rocks, ths bomb! Off the heazy for sheazy.

Fo' shizzle.

I had forgotten them, but saw them while shopping with my mom. She got me one and one for herself! Ha. And yes, I psent it immediately. Got this stationary thingy with a tin, notepad and light-up pen. And a red Vader telescoping saber.
-
I hadn't really heard of it until that morning at Target on April 2nd when one of the other guys in line mentioned them and the manager (?) started handing them out, so I ended up getting one. I used it on the Lava Vader I got, so it was basically two collectibles for the price of one.
-
I love this silly thing. I press it all the time just to piss everyone off at work. I made the mistake of putting $10.00 on one and handing it my daughter....which I will probably never see again :-\.
-
Yeah, this thing is great, the sound is phenominal.
-
I just scored one just 1 hour ago, put $7 on it because I was thinking... I buy 1 figure 5.99+ tax and have a little under a dollar left
-
I just about picked one up the first weekend, and probably should have since they are long sold out now. I told my wife I wanted to go check if they had those, and just put $5-7 on it to buy a figure and keep the card, and she laughed. It probably does sound a little ridiculous ;), but it is a neat gift card.
-
I got one of these in the mail on Saturday. :)
Very cool gift card. I was surprised at how thick it actually was. Very nice for a "free" gift card.
I think it'll make a nice addition to the Star Wars room...

I really enjoy playing with this thing, but I wonder how long the battery would last.

It's got screws on the back. Hopefully you can put a new button cell in it.
-
Yeah, I noticed that, but hopefully the battery in it will last awhile. Maybe I should stop pressing it :P
-
It's hard to stop pressing it, isn't it?! :P
I've put "Vader" on the phone a few times too...
**Hang on just a second, my friend wants to say "hi"... <press button> saber lights up, heavy breathing, geeky fanboy status further solidified...** :-[

Stopped at Target yesterday, and they had a few of these back "in stock", so I decided to pick one up. Really good light and sound on such a small card, and kind of a neat little collectible. I just put $5 on it, and figured I can use it on a figure or something later on (they didn't have anything new there really). I assume they will let you keep the gift card after you use it, at least if you ask right? :)
-
mosnab,
Yup, that is what I did.

I did not get one and kind of regret not picking it up 4/2 now. I saw one and it really is an interesting/neat little item, and a nice momento for the 4/2 experience... I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for it I guess, but having seen one now I'd really like to pick it up.
I was so out of it at Target that morning, I didn't even think much about the card... Didn't even look at one. Too early in the morning for me that day.
-
I have one but I want to get another one because they're so cool!
-
To all:
I my local Target restocked these, so check your local Targets.
If your local Target does not have one and you really want one PM me.
Thanks,
DBK

I found another one today, although apparently someone had pulled the card off and tried to hide it in another slot, but not hard to spot and place back on the backing. Put $5 on it and bought a bag of Skittles and a Pepsi.
-
I got another one last night. There sure isn't any shortage of them around here.
-
I hated to start a new thread so I just changed the title for this. Has anyone been able to pick up the three new Walmart gift cards yet? I ordered the online set but my local Walmart thinks I'm crazy when I asked about them today. I tracked down a picture so I can bring with me tomorrow but if they aren't out yet, I might as well wait.
-
Just a head's up that we've got one of these cool Vader gift cards included (with $5 on it) in our new JD Target exclusive giveaway with the Lava Vader figure. So head on over to the main page and get your entry in there if you wanna win one of these cool little suckers!
I actually stumbled upon another one of these just a few days ago at Target, and threw $5 on it to use it on a figure and then keep it (to pass along to a buddy). Nifty little gadgets, they are... 8)

I was in Target the weekend the new toys came out, but I didn't see the gift card. The next Monday, my mom got the discount card in the mail for $1 off on figures -- so I went back to Target and asked them if I could still get the discount because the card came late in the mail -- and amazingly, they let me use the card, even though the figures were already on sale. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to buy very many. It was that trip that I saw a space for the gift card on a display -- but it was empty. I asked about it, and they found another box in back, so I bought one, then paid for my purchases that day with the card.
And after I left, I realized that I should've gotten more of them, since they're essentially free. Oh well.
I also picked up three SW gift cards at Wal-mart (these are just the regular, non light- and sound-FX kind) -- but the cashier there knows of my obsession, so she didn't make me go through the "buy the card then redeem it" process, she just threw 'em in my bag. <G>
Back at Christmas, I got a gift card from Hot Topic -- funny thing, there's no copyright info anywhere on that card, which had me wondering if it was legit.
-
I've still yet to get a Target card with the light-up saber. Kinda bummed I missed those now because they are quite nice looking. I'd love one given the experiences I had on 4/2... A nice momento. :)
-
I found a bunch at both Targets I went to this weekend, so I bought another one and got the new TIME magazine and a Mother's Day card with it. Definitely a great little collectible.
-
Does anybody collect the Star Wars gift cards? Like the ones at Wal-Mart & Target.
-
I have all six of the Walmart ones (with some of the store ones to spare) and two of the talking Target ones. That was my cell phone message until everyone started to complain.

All six from Wal-mart? I have only seen three different designs. Do you have any pictures?

That's funny! I love it :D

Stephen, here's (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7091.0) the prior discussion on the Gift Cards. Check out my first sentence in there... I specifically mention that the thread should probably be over in the Other Collectibles forum, blah, blah, blah, but left it over there for the time being. But yeah, it should be in here, so I'll probably move it over here tonight, and merge your thread here in with it... Cool?
I only ever picked up the Target gift card myself. Were the WM ones ever available in the stores, or just online? I was under the impression it was the latter, so I never bothered with the hassle of ordering them. Had they been in the stores and I missed 'em, then I'll be upset with myself.
Didn't TRU eventually put one out as well? I thought I recalled hearing something about them following in line with the others and issuing one too.
Regardless, the Target one is by far the coolest of the bunch. A nice collectible in and of itself... 8)

You had to order the other three from Walmart.com in order to make the complete picture. It's pretty cool. I think I sent a scan in to someone here to post on the front page but I can't seem to find it right now.
I'll have to look around online more and if I can't find it, I'll see if one of the crew here can rehost it so you can see the entire picture.

No wonder I didn't see it. ;)

There were three in the store and three on line for Walmart. I pm'd you about hosting the picture the six make.
-
I didn't realize there were three online, nor was I aware of a bigger picture. That's pretty cool.
-
I found the 3 WM cards today at the Neighborhood store, first time I'd ever seen em. Very nice, now I'd just like to get the 3 online ones.
-
OK, here's a shot of Beth's Walmart gift card collection, so you can see how they all fit together...
Pretty cool, but if the online ones are sold out, there's just no way that I'm gonna bite only half a set. I had no idea that's how they were setting it all up. Beth, how much did you put on each card? Like $5 each, and then just used 'em on new stuff when it hit WM?
-
The online cards are NOT sold out yet. Just go to walmart.com go under gift cards and they still have them available. The minimum amount you can get each card for is $10 each...but you get to use that money at WalMart anyway, so the cost of all 3 cards is really just the shipping charge which in my case is $1.86 for standard shipping...not too bad!
-
Also have 6 Walmart cards, Target card, TRU card and Walden Book store card.
Missed out on Kmart cards... :(

Oops, sorry about the mis-information but when I did a search I couldn't find them.

Yup and Todd sent me a set as a surprise since I couldn't find them at first.
-
I can't seem to find any of the gift cards at any of me local wal- marts or target's. But I heard you can purchase them from off wal-marts web site.
