Title: "Pride Display" Vintage-esque Diorama
Post by: CHEWIE on December 23, 2004, 10:46 AM
Wow, this is very cool and has a lot of potential - what do you guys all think of these?  Yeah they are expen$ive at $69.99 and available in May 2005 (five more scenes are planned, no figures included), but I have to say this is a step in the right direction!

$70 Cool? No

Neat idea but that price is a killer :-X

I don't think I'll be shelling out that much for one either... but if they do a cool Death Star or Cloud City version, I might change my mind.

Wonder if these will be compatible with the modern day figures foot pegs?

Why in the world is it $70?  It looks like it should be $20 tops.  Are there chips of diamonds in the sand?

Anyway, yeah it's neat-o.

I was just thinking the same thing Justin, are they going to be Vintage or Modern Footpegs.  Since there are 6 of them planned maybe they will do 3 of each

I'm thinking it would be more vintage Scott but then we won't know till this thing comes out or get more information on it. It would be nice to have both.

Also, this is a UK import so this may take into effect of the high cost. I have a thread going in the vinty section here about it.

Looks like it comes with dual stands... 50 of them is pretty cool!

Also, note that there are not pegs on the actual ground of it, which to me is great!

This is from the actual manufacturer, which is not Hasbro.  http://www.pridedisplays.com/indexx.htm

Well there you go, it had a clicky on the picture on the site.  :-[

50 duel stands is great, mix & match if you want.  8)

Still pricey.  :-\

*edited* to reflect these are not made by Hasbro.

I'm excited to see what other ones they have planned.

Why not just buy a land of the jawas base and print out a background for it? Its the same thing!

What the hell are they smoking at $70? Or even at 30pounds is insane. I wouldn't give you more than $10 tops.

Well, I agree that it's WAY overpriced.  The price is outright crazy.

I would pay about $25 or so in a heartbeat for it, especially since it comes with 50 figure stands.

Anyways, I am really looking forward to seeing more of these - hopefully a Death Star and Cloud City one.....

Yes CHEWIE, I should've emphasized that it's NOT a Hasbro product actually.  They're from a small european company I was told, and have only been available to the UK (unless you wanna ship one over to yourself) thus far.

I'm unsure what their Euro price is though...  I'm wondering if it's close to the $70 SSW.com price they're charging to "import" this one?

It's unique...  I tend to display figures differently than that, but it's still sort of neat.  Very nice quality it seems, but I'm sort of surprised there's not a stink being raised by Hasbro on this...  Unless they simply don't care on this one.

Just did a quick conversion based on the rate right now, $30. GBP = $57.5891 USD.

Nice little profit shopstarwars is making on those.  >:(

It does however have a molded kryate dragon skelleton on it. I will definately pass on this.

Don't forget they have to add there shipping cost from the UK to them, no doubt they get a bulk discount.

Post by: Jesse James on December 23, 2004, 08:51 PM
Yeah, that sounds about ballpark...

Damn though, that's still pricey.  I'm passing either way, but if I was in the market for something to display SW stuff that I didn't build myself...  it'd be in the running.  it's a nice mix.

Yeah, and the dollar has been sliding against the pound for two years now, so come time for these to ship in the UK next year, 69.99 may not be too bad. I was going to have a friend order a couple and ship them over, and to do so (figuring the preorder price, shipping, and reshipping) came to about the same as what SWS is asking. I'm not justifying the price, but in this case it doesn't look like its SWS that is doing the gouging.

I wonder when they will annouce the other ones, and if Hasbro will realize there is a market for such items.

I agree Jesse that this isn't exactly how I display my stuff either, but I do think these have quite a bit of potential.  Mainly for a Death Star/Cloud City set-up.

Thanks BTW for not being anal and moving this thread like the mods did at another forum, as they thought it was only appropriate for vintage collecting.  I disagree since it comes with stands compatible with the modern line.

If I win the lottery or something I'll order a set of each, and maybe a couple extras for a few of you guys.   ;)

From our vinty section:

This running around between the vinty thread & the OTC thread is driving me  (http://www.cheesebuerger.net/images/smilie/frech/d055.gif)

I was thinking of merging both threads together but this is a vinty & modern subject so they can both stay where they are.  :)

If I win the lottery or something I'll order a set of each, and maybe a couple extras for a few of you guys.   ;)

I would like mine gift wrapped.  ;)

That was GNT alone being anal over at Scum, i think...  The vinty guys just merged the topics which is cool since they had one.  GNT on the other hand, was pulling power...

Honestly, that and the shot at it being "news" in his mind (Odd that someone not tasked with any reporting is setting personal guidelines of what is, and is not news...  I mean, if GNT's so adept at such things, why not appoint him as a reporter, ya know?  But I digress), are all little paybacks for (I think) a link or mention of Jedi Defender...  Typical kids stuff from him, pay it no mind.

Maybe since Galactic Hunter has the news too now, GNT will consider it more important?  He's not exactly Mr. Popularity over there either though...  Two sites who can't stand his ilk, so he's not welcome at either, and he lashes back at both a lot of the time.

I'm not suprised in the slightest though...  Just speaks of his character.

I totally agree with your description of GNT and him being anal - the guy does that quite a bit and is one of a number of hinderances to the forums there.  In my experience this is definitely the best place to go and chat, and although there's a few less people that post here, I think that makes it a lot better here actually.

Anyways, I hope they do show some more of the diorama displays from that UK company... the prices on these are pretty steep, but if they can pull something outstanding together for a Death Star or Cloud City version, I'm in.   :)

I'm getting the vibe that we may not see these come to fruition, at least not after the initial one.  Anyone heard any news?

In the latest Insider, these are listed but the price is TBD... hopefully they can lower the price on these a LOT!

Legends Action Figures here in Canada has the  Action Figure Display Diorama (http://www.legendsactionfigures.com/en/products.php?cat=187396134&prd=2184189134) instock for $69.99 CDN so about $58.335 US.

I'm still debating if I am going to pick this up.  :-\

That's a good price.  I have about $120 in credit with Legends right now.  I've not been able to find anything I want, so maybe I'll just snag a couple of those and be done with it.

70 bucks is too much, but if they lower the price maybe and if they get a Cloud City definetly.

Just a heads up that these are available on the "Pride Displays" new website for $54.99 with FREE shipping.  A lot better than the $79.99 + shipping most places were charging.

I thought I'd give it a shot and just ordered one.  Anyone else get one of these yet?

I have decided to pass on these... just not worth it to me, although that is a much better price Stim.   :-\

Honestly, I don't think something like this should cost more than $20.00.  If it did, then yes I'd order one.

I forgot to mention this, I was over at Tattoo Shane's a couple of weeks ago and I got to see this display first hand.

I was really impressed by the size if this thing and the box is very nice and large. :o

I'm still not sure if I want to get this tho.  :-\
