I was kidding around about the hairy knuckles, based on this close up photo:

Salt Lake City is still at $2.04, they must have bought it a couple of months ago and then resold it with a markup to Jesse's station.

I should have said thank you for writing half of my post above, Ryan.  Thanks.

If the American Fork Walmart had the Modal Nodes my post wasn't a diss.  But if they were out...

I'm still downloading the episodes from iTunes.  When it played on Friday nights last fall it always took until Sunday morning to show up for download, so I'm hopeful the article is correct that new episodes will be posted on Monday vs. Tuesday.

We got a puppy last spring and I've been in PetSmart and PetCo more in the last 9 months than I ever was when we had our last dog.  Anyway, the kids like to stop and look at the reptiles whenever we're there.  They look like a lot of work, maybe just because they're so foreign to other pets we've had.  So we're holding off any more animals until we get the dog under control.

As a kid I had 3 box turtles (Arkansas Terrapins), and they were a blast.  They didn't have heat lamps and ate vegetables, we were probably pretty poor in taking care of them but they seemed to do really well.  Thinking about it now, we probably really messed them up.  Especially when my dad decided it was time to return them to the wild after a few years of captivity.  I never really thought about that as a kid.

Yeah.  We'll be passing on any reptiles any time soon.  Yours look really cool though, and well taken care of.  Thanks for posting the pictures, my kids were interested in their names.

I have read though that handling them can give you hairy knuckles.  Or something like that.

On another note, I've been watching this show religiously so I can have an opinion that doesn't suck balls when I post about it here :-* , I saw "The Return," and thought this episode was just dandy.  One of the best episodes ever, and a nice return to form.  Dwight kicks ass, and Michael's frustration with Andy was classic.  All things Dwight ruled.  "For your convenience I've prepared my work resume, my special skills resume, and Dwight Schrute trivia."  Classic.  "I don't want to do your laundry anymore."  And most importantly, relatively subtle.  I about peed my pants when Michael was hiding behind the door.  And Ryan telling Jim he might help prank Andy if he had asked 10 years ago.  And Andy freaking out about his lost phone.  Phyllis blocking her drawer from Andy.  Even Angela had a human moment inviting Oscar to be on the party committee.  We saw some movement on the whole Jim/Pam thing, and it was beautifully tied into Karen not wanting to help with the prank.  All that, and "gaycation" was easily my favorite part of it all.

Where was Toby?  I thought we would see him with Oscar coming back or at least when Andy punched the wall.

Vintage Kenner / Awesome read on yellowing plastics
« on: January 14, 2007, 05:11 PM »
I read an article on plastics from a design related forum.  It focused on SNES system cases and older Macintosh computers, but some of the points uncovered by the author relate to vintage Stormtroopers and vehicles.

This goes way beyond simple answers like UV and tobacco.  Check it out, and if this needs merged with another thread that's cool.  I tried a search but didn't see anywhere that seemed like a good place to add this.

Jesse Wall, the R2 MES has a cd/dvd combo tray in one of the front blue bands that will project video 80" wide.  I didn't catch the lumens of the projector, but in the video you can see another R2 in the background projecting ROTS on the backwall.  The image looked good considering the exhibit hall was well lit and they were projecting straight onto a plastic laminate exhibit wall with seams instead of using a proper screen.

One of the men demonstrating the R2's (not Jeroen in the video) kept telling people how the MES would be great for girls slumber parties, because it was so portable.  He told someone else (a specialty home entertainmnet electronics installer) it would do well in the vacation homes of his clients, without asking if that was the type of customer he had.  He kept making jokes about how I would never loose the giant Millennium Falcon shaped remote, and I explained that I'd have the new problem of never being able to get it away from my kids to actually use it.  He told me the CS remote webcam would be good for me, because I could use it to see if my roommates were drinking my beer.  Um... I don't have roommates or beer in my home, but I do have three kids.  My opinion is that Nikko has a niche product that could do really well in the fan boy market and modestly well with the Sharper Image market.  There are cheaper, portable projectors with better image quality for slumber parties (check out Optima) that target teenage girls and high school kid gamers in the hundreds of dollars rather than a $2500 R2-D2.  I wonder what their thoughts are about who is going to buy these two products?  At CES it felt like a real shotgun approach: "Your mother-in-law would LOVE this R2!  It will be the hit of the retirement community, if they can figure out the 100 button Millennium Falcon remote..."  Well, they didn't actually say that, but it wouldn't stretch the imagination.

It was fun to see these guys at the show, they're really passionate about their product and were super nice.  Thansk for giving me the heads up to go check the R2's out.  I probably would have missed them if I didn't know look for them.

If anyone has any specific questions about either product, I'll try to answer them.

Thanks, Jesse.

It's the Sony Ericson w810i Walkman phone on Cingular.  Not bad at all for $99, considering I've also got a 2gb card in it with a couple of iTunes playlists on it as an mp3 player.  I've got it linked to my helmet, so I can ski with music.  If a call comes in, I've got glove friendly buttons on the helmet to pick up the call, and then it transfers back to music after the phone hangs up.  I get good signal at the resort I go to, so I can bag work without anyone knowing if it's not too windy.

The camera shoots 2 megapixel images, and I can sync it with my Mac seamlessly.

There are a few more images from the camera phone here.

The scene with Dwight and Pam where she was crying is what I've been missing in the recent episodes.  He seemed like a character there, rather than a caricature.  It was short, sweet and his timing on asking her if it was that time of month was perfect.  I really enjoyed the episode tonight.
