Watto's Junk Yard / RIP Sergei Zholtok

Center collapses after excusing himself from game
Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville Predators center Sergei Zholtok died Wednesday of an apparent heart ailment. He was 31.

The Predators announced that Zholtok died in Latvia, where he was playing for Riga 2000 during the NHL lockout.

"We are all saddened and shocked to hear of Sergei's sudden passing," Predators general manager David Poile said in a statement. "He was a hardworking player who was well-liked by his teammates and coaches. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Zholtok family."

TSN.ca reported Wednesday night that Zholtok excused himself from a game and collapsed and died on the way to the locker room.

Zholtok left a game in January 2003 because of dizziness and fatigue and was taken to the hospital for tests, causing concern for Wild coach Jacques Lemaire.

"I don't think he's OK," he said at the time.

Zholtok was also a late scratch two nights later against Buffalo when he skated during warmups but didn't feel well enough to play.

The forward then sat out early last season when the problems returned. Zholtok again left in the second period because of fainting spells. He returned to the hospital and was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and flulike symptoms.

After missing seven games, Zholtok was cleared by a doctor to return to the lineup.

"It's a very sad thing," former Wild teammate Filip Kuba told The Associated Press. "He was a very close friend of mine. He was a very good person. ... It's hard right now to talk about it."

Zholtok appeared in 588 NHL games from 1992 to 2004 with Boston, Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Minnesota and Nashville. He joined the Predators on March 5 in a trade with Minnesota.

In 70 games last season with the Wild and Predators, Zholtok had 14 goals and 17 assists. For his career, Zholtok had 111 goals and 147 assists.

"Sergei was a great competitor and a valuable member of our organization for almost three years and will be greatly missed by his teammates and his fans in the hockey world," Wild general manager Doug Risebrough said.

Nashville declined to make a qualifying offer to Zholtok after the end of the season, which ended in a playoff loss to Detroit.

In recent years, Zholtok hooked up with fellow countryman and former Carolina Hurricanes goalie Arturs Irbe to organize an online auction of hockey memorabilia to benefit abused children in Latvia. They collected pucks, sticks and equipment autographed by more than 115 NHL players from 18 teams, including the Wild's Marian Gaborik, for sale to the highest bidder.

"Sergei was the consummate team player," Senators president Roy Mlakar said. "He will be remembered in Ottawa for his sincere involvement in our community. Moreover, he was a class human being and family man, who will be remembered as such by the Senators family."

Zholtok is survived by his wife Anna, and two sons.

He was one of my favorite players when he was with the Wild... Guess I'll have to break out the Zholtok jersey to wear to work tomorrow in memorial.  :(

TRU Jedi Set 3 and 4 (junky though they may be), were both due mid-November, probably in time for the Post-Thanksgiving shopping crunch.

I think Amazon.com had a 11/15 date on them or something...
edit: just checked and they are listed as available 11/20 at Amazon.com, so yeah, just in time for Thanksgiving crunch

I've got 3:  1 carded, 2 loose.

My carded one is hanging on the OTC Wall of Figures, the two loose ones are flanking my FF Rem Helmet Vader as he overlooks my Bounty Hunters.

I think I'll stick with 2 for now and hope for a cheaper re-release army builder pack or something.  $10 each is just too much IMHO for massive army-building.  Buying anything more than the 3 that I have will eat too much into my budget, and then I'd have to start passing things up. :(

In fact, even buying 3 figures for $30 is starting to get excessive in my book...  :-\

Here's the stuff that is still on my "needs" list that I will probably find in 2004:

* 2005 Cantina Wave (due Nov. from EE)
* OTC-38 Imperial Trooper (x2)
* TRU Jedi Scene 3 and 4

That's about it.  I have caught up with my vOTC and I only need the Scan trooper for OTC.  I managed to find all the other stuff that I wanted, but I did pass on a lot of stuff this year thanks to all the re-hashes (Y-Wing, Vader's TIE, OTC re-hash TIE and X-Wing and more).

I guess I do have some other stuff I am tracking on the needs list, but these items probably won't show up before the end of the year:

* GH Tatooine Wave (Jedi Luke/Gam Guard, Skiff Lando/Nikto, Jawa/Tusken)
* Target Figure w/Cup Wave 2 (Han, Yoda, Fett)
* Star Tours Wave 4

I doubt that stuff will hit before Christmas though...

Yeah, if this drags on much longer it will only make things worse around here... I agree with ya Scott and Brian.  Hard to believe that we are basically right back where we were in 2000, only this time it's Ohio not Florida.

I hope in 2008 we go back to one of those elections where one guy gets his ass handed to him and there is NO question who's the boss (a-la Reagan 1984).  One of those elections where by 8pm Pacific one guy is ready to concede becuase he's losing by 200 electoral votes.

I pre-ordered mine through StarWarsShop.com using the $50 Gift Certificate from the March fiasco.

The total with shipping came to $17.94 ;)

I was pretty sure that my local comic shop couldn't beat that price, so I decided to pull the trigger on the SWS.com pre-order.  Now we wait until November to see if it ever gets released... and if I ever get it from them since their track record is so great.  ::)

I got my shipping notice today!   ;D

I hope this works out OK.  Given SWShop.com's spotty track record, I was a bit worried.  I got a great deal on the sandcrawler this way and I probably wouldn't have picked one up if not for the GC I had from the initial order fiasco...

Count me in for the "free" league then.

My 4-4 team is just about right as far as my Fantsasy Football skill level gets me every year.  I've never won, but I've never come in last as well.

So I was wondering the other day what the significance of this odd little difference between the Jawas was - one plastic sculpted version, and one "cloth" version...  When it struck me: This is yet another nod to the Vintage era.  Duh.  The "vinyl" caped Jawa, and the "regular" Jawa.  Cool!  No wonder they're making the Vinyl caped version so rare - it's mimicking the Vintage one's scarcity!

Another very cool display of collecting knowledge from the folks over at Medicom...   8)

HA!  Now Dale knows what it's like to have people not read HIS posts  Some Karma feedback from that Knight thread...  :P

Holy ****! Are my eyes seeing what they are seeing, the chase Jawa has what appears to be a Vinyl cape!  This is awesome & a very nice nod to the vinty line. Kudo's Medicom.

Either that, or you old guys don't read so well...

It's part my own detective work and some of the stuff I've read at HongKong and Japanese sites where ppl have opened their Master Cases.

I've been keeping track of all of the Lograys and Ion Rifle Jawas I see on eBay, Japan eBay (bidders), and both of the yahoo auction sites for Japan & Hong Kong.

Almost all the auctions state that with the Master Cases you will always end up with either Logray or Jawa, meaning that they are 1:96 if evenly split, but I keep seeing Logray much more than the Jawa being pulled.

No hard evidence yet (too early), but lots of circumstantial evidence pointing to a 1:192 Jawa and 1:48 Logray instead of both of them being 1:96.

Very interesting...

Seems like NewForce got in the wave 2.5 vOTC case and are shipping them now (I got my ship confirmation today... I totally forgot that I had ordered this case from them).

It would seem that the vOTC case wave 2.5 with C-3PO is starting to finally hit some places again, as 3PO has turned up in stock at Amazon, NewForce, and OMGCNFO.com too, I wonder if EE (who adjusted the ship date to Nov) is getting their cases in as well?

Maybe they will start popping up at retail again too?
