Vintage Kenner / Re: Sorely tempted to bid on this one

Honestyl, if you're looking to get into vintage then just take a few weeks to browse the auctions......ALWAYS keep the BIN page ready...and refresh it every 5 minutes......

You will see that if you can stay up till waaaay early in the morning to watch auctions then you will find the best deals ;)

Thanks.  I do my best to stay up as late as I can, but not quite the same living in the Central time zone.  Not up late enough to get those west coast posts and not early enough to beat the east coast buyers [/lame excuse]

I'll see what I can do.  As I said in the other thread, I'm trying to get a handle on decent prices as there is at least one local store selling vintage loose figs.  That way I can see them up close and check the joints, paint, etc before buying.  I see that as an advantage over ebay.  If I factor in shipping, I'll have a good idea of the prices I could pay up here after converting to Canucklebucks.

A lot is appealing, but again, tricky for me thus far.  Carded is totally out of the question at the moment for two reasons: price and scammers.  Knowing so little, there's just way too much potential to get taken.

Hey mosnab, glad someone started a thread on this here ;)

I love these things and have had good luck with them so far.  Through trading and luck in the store I have most of what I want from this line, but for the no mask Wolverine, which is way too expensive on ebay :o

From ML I I have ironman (inlcuding the gold one, which I saw four times in stores) and Captain America.  I paid only $5 Cdn for each, lucking into both on clearance at Walmart.

From ML II I have only the doombot ;D and the Thing.  I also got a trenchcoat thing from a friend on the Spawn board.  He is holding a Hulk with shirt for me until I get something else to trade.  I suspect those latter two and the movie DD I have are from the 'Best of' line.

From ML III I have Wolverine, Thor, Magneto and the movie Daredevil mentioned above.  I guess mine is from III since we never saw the Best of line in Canada (yet).  I keep passing on Ghost Rider, mostly because I think it will scare my daughter.

I also have the original DD and a yellow DD (thanks Dain) plus a couple of the spiderman figs.  From the spidey line I have the Hobgoblin (have a spare if anyone wants to trade) and I snagged a Venom with the ooze junk the other day.  I like that Venom marginally better than the one from the Spiderman classics line.  I need the black spiderman still, but can't find a deal on ebay that I'm willing to take (yet).

For interest sake, I "stole" this info from somewhere else: ;)

Vintage Kenner / Re: Take the time, train a rookie?

Thanks Dale.  I've been lurking and watching stuff on ebay for a couple of weeks now.  I'll see if I can score that book.

FWIW, I would like nice, but not absolute mint figs.  At this point, I seriously doubt that I could tell the difference between original and repro weapons, so either is fine.

Some of the BINs are downright scary and in part owe to why I was interested in that lot last night.  Several of those figures (those not deemed in ultra crappy shape) included had quite high BINs.  Example being Bespin Leia.  She was in the lot, possibly with a torn cape, but the next one I found had a BIN of $40 for loose.  No one says I have to BIN, I can just bid, but I have to wonder how accurate those prices are?

Duh, what are the easy ones?  I know, look on ebay and find the cheap ones in good condition, ergo easy.

What's your opinion of those prices on the Vader though?  Ranging from around $6-13 but is the $13 a bad deal?  The reason I ask is that there is a store here in town that sells vintage loose figs, so I can probably score some there to save on shipping.  Call shipping high on the $13 Vader, say $7 (for conversation, I'd never pay that) but that would make a total of $20 US or around $27 Cdn or so.  Is that too much for a good or NM vintage Vader?  If I can go out and buy the fig and have it in hand to inspect, check the joints, look for rubs or tears that is preferable.

I understand the variability.  That's the whole thrust of the Ewok village thread.  If you're desperate, impatient and dumb, you're bound to pay too much.

Are there any retailers online with "good" vintage prices for loose figs?

I think I'm pretty much aiming only for loose and only for figs.  I might watch things like AT-STs or Ties as well, but I can learn those as I go and not worry about questions for them.

Vintage Kenner / New To Vintage Collecting? Some Tips!
« on: June 9, 2003, 11:22 AM »
Thinking about getting into vintage.  Figs only for the most part (though now that I remember, my Rancor is actually the Vintage version :)).  To that end, I want to ask some questions of the knowledgeable folks.  Specifically I'll be curious about prices.

My goals are as follows:

complete loose figure collection, though not overly concerned about vinyl vs cloth cape Jawa for example.

not too concerned with the saber variations - eg. double telescoping vs anything else

not overly concerned about vlix or blue snaggletooth at this moment in time ;)

I think I will start with imperials, given my biases, so the first questions are:

Vader:  how many versions and reasonable prices (US bucks)

Stormtrooper: price?

vinty poster: price?

Links are helpful too, just point the way.  Always happy to have questions answered personally though.   ;D

Didn't know about that, but I was considering the Luke in there to be a throw away figure anyway.  From the description, LUke and Han's heads had fallen off and been reattached with a screw.  The way it read, that would be the regular Luke and the regular Han.  I presume with loose/reattached heads, they ain't worth a hill of beans.

I liked the assortment, I just wish they'd indicated which vinyl capes were torn.  I also couldn't tell if the Jawa was a vinyl cape or a cloth cape, though I guessed the latter.  The stormtroopers looked pretty yellow too.  Was wondering about the Bespin Leia and Ben as well.  They didn't look too bad, but the pic was not a lot of help.

There was also one ending last night listed as MIMP.  Pics included and the last bid I saw was $85.

Just trying to learn.

but didn't.  Now, did I blow it or not?  Some of those figures are throw aways, but a few seem worthy of the price.

is this a more realistic price?

Not that I'm looking to buy one of these homes for hideous furballs, just remembered the thread as I was surfing.

You know, were the ones who bombard ewok villages from our stolen Star Destroyer. ::)Seriously,ewoks are OK,but we don't need more.

No, no, no.  Ewoks must die, it's really that simple.  Hairballs everywhere, coughing them up.  Really quite disgusting.

Episode 1 / Re: Who else loves their Episode One collection?
« on: June 8, 2003, 11:12 PM »
I think the line had a lot of duds, and too many versions of the main characters.  It was a pretty decent line though because it started out with Obi Wan and Qui Gon with, for the time, was a good amount of articulation, the figures able to hold the lightsabers with 2 hands.  We got a few too many versions of Obi Wan, Qui Gon, Maul, and little Anakin for my liking.

Add Amidala to that list please.  How many were there?  7?  Well, maybe I'm adding POTJ to the list, but still, what's Lucas' fetish for clothing changes?  I was surprised in Ep II that she didn't change on the flight from Tatooine to get Obi ::)

What month (cover date) of Toy Fare June, July or August?

Oh man, that was yoor 666th post.  Yikes...

If you want, send me a PM and I can try and help you on some newer figures if you like.

 :P

Heh.  666, gone now, everyone remain calm, purely a coincidence ;D

Thanks very much for the offer Chewie, I really appreciate it.  I'm doing fine though, having pretty much given up the hunt and relying on online retailers.  LMK if you find a Hoth Han with blue coat.  The rumor is the case I'm getting with him will be brown, so it would be nice to have both.

cheers.
