There are many different paints on the market. When I use to build plastic model kit's I used Humbrol, Tamiya, Testors & Gunze Sangyo.
I liked using Humbrol & Tamiya paints.
Another one is Modelflex paint. Great for air brushing.
As for doing figures, I do not make customs & I have not repaired any figures so I have no idea what would be good.
I'm sure the other members will help out.

This is a loose one I have. I bought him way back when it was released. The pink marks on the toes are from the light on the scanner.

Well, it sounds like it has the cross stitch pattern which is good. It may be cloudy from all the years in storage or being exposed to the air or something along the lines. It looks very good.
