Watto's Junk Yard / Re: X-Men/Wolverine Movies
« on: June 17, 2019, 02:45 PM »
It certainly doesn't live up to the first two movies in the series.  Probably on par or a bit worse than Apocalypse.   I'm not sure if this one or X3 is a better telling of the story or not, so that should paint the picture right there.  Captain Marvel was a better representation of the 90's.  I'm not sure they seemed to care as much considering how well they did the 60's and 70's and to some extent the 80's.  For whatever reason, they chose not to use the actual President like they did with Kennedy and Nixon.  They certainly didn't do enough to make the characters look older.  Xavier and Magneto should be ~30 years older than First Class and that certainly doesn't appear to be the case.  They should be approaching the look of Stewart and McKellen from the first movie, but it isn't even close.

The problem is that we don't see Old Cap in the time travel suit.  Additionally, we can't be sure he had enough Pym particles to travel back to drop off the stones, go to marry Peggy and then come back as an old man.  We could assume in alternate timeline he could just go to Hank and get some more, but Hank seems pretty possessive of them.  This could be as headache inducing as all the Terminator timelines.

It is all a bit problematic since they didn't map out the rules besides Tony saying that when you go into the past, that past is now your future.  I think they were all good with the time travel stuff until they pulled the pre-snap Thanos into the future.  We even have what is essentially a grandfather paradox that isn't even addressed.  Older Nebula kills her younger self.  I think that act there shows there has to be divergent timelines.

Really, I think any time traveling actions that they took causes multiple divergent timelines.  They go back and gather all the Infinity Stones before Thanos can and use them to undo the snap.  Even though Cap goes back and puts the stones back so the timeline can supposedly play out as it had before, there are changes.  Loki escaping is a pretty big one I would say.  Since the attempt to get the Tesseract failed, I would assume Cap went back to the 70's to drop that stone off.  So the "new" timeline where Loki escapes would still occur which is different than what we saw in the first Avengers movie.  Additionally, we don't see how they convert the stones back to the Tesseract, Loki's staff, and the Aether as they were originally found in the prime timeline.

You talking about the girl squad?  Or something else?

Yep, the women. Just imagining the rage some people felt while watching that makes me chuckle

I saw that more as a shot at DC.  Oh, you have Gal Godot as Wonder Woman?  Look, we have a whole crew of female super heroes that are all just as bad ass as your one.

You never know, but the old EU timeline for Revan was ~4000 BBY while the article mentions "hundreds" of years before the Skywalkers.  You could easily make a trilogy out of all the KOTOR stuff, especially if you include the MMO story lines with the Sith Emperor.  I'm not sure if they would want to rehash a video game or just put a new spin on Revan, much like what has happened with Thrawn going from Legends to canon.

One thing I would like to see would be some sort of series that shows the lineage from Darth Bane to Darth Sidious.  I doubt you could effectively do this in the movies since the Sith were hidden for 1,000 years so you really can't have the Sith vs. Jedi confrontations after Bane establishes the rule of two.  You could probably do it in a series of books or comics though.

I have a hard time finding any mercy for the guy either.  It isn't like he stole some POTF2 carded figures.  He stole a freaking Rocket Firing Boba Fett among other rare items.  We are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars in collectables.  He also stole from people who considered him a friend and invited him into their homes.  Sansweet said he knew him for 20 years.  I would be pretty pissed, even at this point if I were Steve.  I have a hard enough time keeping track of my collection on excel that I can't even imagine having to re-inventory everything like Steve had to do.  I don't think the article really goes into to detail as to what was stolen besides the Fett, but I could hazard a guess that some of the stuff would be really hard to replace.  Finding a rocket firing Fett isn't an easy task.

I would say the easiest answer for the tesseract changing hands are the Skrull.  Anyone of them could have infiltrated Stark's facility and made off with it.  We really don't know how long the Skrull were living on the hidden labratory.

Got my email from Haslab as well.  Also a Friday delivery.  I'm glad I have the day off of work so I don't have to go pick it up somewhere due to the signature requirement.  I am also glad this thing is already paid for ahead of time.  I really have no clue what I'm going to do with it, but it was just too cool of an item to pass on.

King Kong Bundy of WWF/WWE fame has also passed away.

Man, I guess I should list mine.  I have been selling off 3 3/4" carded figures.  I had no clue any of them was worth anything.

Just wanted to see if there was any interest here in the Mara Jade Signature Edition saber hilt from Master Replicas.  It has only been out of the box twice.  Once when I received it and now to take pictures to sell it.  The signature plate has been attached to the plaque stand.  It comes with the original COA as well as the black storage box and the cardboard shipping box.  I figured I would post in the collecting forums before going to ebay.  Right now I'm trying to gauge the value based on completed ebay auctions so I don't have a price in mind yet.  Just wanted to see if there was any interest.  The edition number is 115 of 750.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but listening to the Star Wars Action News podcast, I believe these were made in a similar process to the Gentle Giant Jumbo figures.  They 3D scanned an existing vintage figure and went from there.  That is why they are a bit off on size.

Kenner Retro Collection / Re: 2019 Retro Kenner Tarkin with Board Game
« on: February 21, 2019, 06:43 AM »
When I heard the name of the game I thought of the POTF2 version, too!

Having seen this set?  And knowing that the Retro Collection will likely be LIMITED to the 6 figures AND exclusive?  This line doesn't seem like as much of an inherently bad idea as it did to me yesterday.  And the TBS and TVC reveals gave me a glimmer of hope, too.

Making a Kenner style Tarkin is actually a great idea, since he was always a notable absence from the Kenner line.

So the bulk of the line are the six figures we saw from Toy Fair that will be at Target?  That makes it an easier proposition to pick up the set.  The board game I would definitely get just for the figure.  I think I may still have the POTF2 version of game in a closet somewhere.

For exclusives, I hope they go the route of the board game and make OT characters that never got a vintage sculpt.

I think the line is neat from a nostalgia standpoint.  I remember the rereleases way back when POTF2 was starting.  I too would be worried about vintage fakes now.  I love the look of these, but I have the vintage counterparts loose and I have been trying to sell of my carded collection, so I can't see myself picking these up.

Now the Tarkin figure on the other hand, that I would like to have just because he never got made in the vintage line.  The new playset is calling my name as well.  However, I really want to downsize my collection.  It is a daunting task.  I have only managed to sell my orange card figures and my purple card SOTE figures.  I have had a listing for the green card POTF2 and my freeze frame figures and haven't gotten any hits yet.  I have so much in totes that I really can't bring my self to buy something new even though I really like the look of it.  Of course I foolishly signed up to buy the Barge...the playset lover in me just couldn't pass it up once it was fully funded.  If they decide to make a Death Star playset next through Haslab, I think I will just pass out.
