Watto's Junk Yard / Very cool optical illusion!
« on: February 20, 2009, 10:05 AM »
I found this on another of my regular sites.  This woman can be seen rotating in both directions, depending on how you see it.  Note whether she is turning to her left or right, and see if you can change it.  It DOES NOT change on its own; you have to be able to see her spinning the other direction.  Hint:  it's easier to change her direction if you watch her thigh crossing her other thigh.

Agreed.  That 3PO head is perfection!  I also read that DePriest stated only a few Hoth troops will make it out without the skirt.  That's great news, and I wonder if it will be soft goods or not.

I cannot find JACK.  I know it's just a matter of time, but damn!  Anyway, I'm going to buy 2 Spacetroopers, 2 jawas, and multiple Old Bens, so those extra parts will be available (though the first red droid I put together is already spoken for by a JDer).

I look at this 2 ways: $75 is frackin' ridiculous for this if it is truly the price.  On the other hand, it's pretty cool that we're getting individual and accurately-decoed starfighters and their pilots, something that would have never happened in vintage or even POTF2 days.

I don't recall well enough from the movies, but what is the second ladder for?  A groundcrewer to work on the R2 unit?

Yep, the dark ladder is for the pilot and the yellow ladder was for the techie preparing the astromechs.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Daigo-Bah's Customs (2/6)
« on: February 6, 2009, 05:38 PM »
Ever since the Indy figs have been on deep discount, I've had my eye on Sallah for some potential Tatooine residents.  So I took one, cut his dress into a skirt, cut off his boots and replaced them with Luke boots, added a utility belt, used a VTAC Bespin Luke head with hair painted black, and basically repainted everything.  This guy is seen several times walking around the cantina exterior.

Old Ben is by far the star of the wave IMO and they really have made the world's most perfect 3-3/4" action figure.  I really can't say enough other than the odd neck peg which Jayson pointed out, it works on every single level.

I'm so glad to hear that.  He's the one main character I've wanted re-done for so long, and despite being excited about him coming, the pics online haven't been stellar.  I've seen pics that didn't do the figure justice before, though.

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Re: Daigo-Bah's Dagobah diorama

Thanks guys!  I want to do the cave, but I think it's going to be a separate mini diorama later on.  I did consider putting it in though!

A couple interesting tidbits from this latest round:
1) New Gamorrean Guard in the next 2 years
2) New Han in this year's later ANH wave
3) A couple new cantina aliens in that same wave (neither of which is Bom Vimdin)
4) BG-J38 (from Jabba's Palace) will be a BAD in early 2010! Link: http://banthaskull.com/forums/showthread.php?p=89128#post89128

It'll be interesting to see how large or small the sculpt actually is.  If it's too big, it's a better deal, but perhaps less accurate to the film.  I'm bothered by the short apron, though there could have been one like that in the junkpile room; gonna have to do some research  :P

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?

I'm quickly reading through Fight Club and slowly reading through Return of the King at the same time.

I just completed a Debnoli from the cantina.  He's an obscure human you can see when Luke first arrives.  The recipe is Indiana Jones body and cloak (map room Indy) with hand-drawn stripes using a thin sharpie, and the head from the GI Joe Red Star in the comic pack with hair scraped off and head repainted.  You can also see my Takeel repaint with custom legs for sitting.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: My SW purist blog rant
« on: January 25, 2009, 07:23 PM »
Thanks again, guys, for taking the time to read and respond.  I'll admit that a lot of it is in fact just assumptions, or based on what feels right to me.  Objectively, Nathan, there's no reason why any alien race shouldn't have a jedi or 2 represented, but again, the OT gave us a certain dynamic that has been altered in the prequels.  The jedi in the OT- Ben, Anakin, Vader, (and potentially Leia)- were all human, and Yoda was given to us to show a very unexpected master: alien and very small.  When designing thugs and other shady roles, alien designs were made to reflect that: Weequay, Klaatu, Nikto and others looked the part, so to make a jedi of one just looks wrong to me (I realize that can seem "prejudiced"  ::)).  Jedi should look like cloaked monks, not hottie blue Twi'Leks or rough thugs!

LOL- well, anything worth discussing or debating could be argued to be a waste of energy  ;).  I'm not angry or betrayed or anything like that, simply outlining why a "purist" is one (from my point of view).

Watto's Junk Yard / My SW purist blog rant
« on: January 24, 2009, 09:48 PM »
Hey guys- hope this is ok to post here instead of the films forum; there's a lot more traffic here in Watto's.  I wrote an "essay" if you will on my purist thoughts about the saga on a blog site I created.  If you have 10 or 15 minutes to spare, I'd love for you all to read and comment on it.  Please let me know what you think: do you agree or should I get over it  :P.  Here's the link:
