Hall of Justice / DC Universe Classics
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:58 PM »
This makes me a bit nervous.  The local comic shop that I bought series 1 from said that series 2 hasn't even been solicited through diamond.  And I know that I never get around to toy stores with enough frequency to find these things.  I'm looking forward to getting them, and my 3 year old is really looking forward to building Gorilla Grodd (though he's more excited about Solomon Grundy in series 3).  Ah well, if all else fails I suppose there is ebay.  I prefer not to go that route though.

Well I think I'm pretty much commited to this line - for now at least.  Picked up wave 1 and loved it, and the next two look even better.  I'm really hoping that the classic Firestorm is the regular one.  Firestorm #12 was the first comic I ever bought (85 or 86?), so I'm pretty excited about the prospect of a classic figure.  Couldn't care less about the new one though.

I'm in the same boat as a few other people though.  Seeing this line makes me want a few of the other line.  Big wants on the list are Darkseid, Braniac and Luthor.  As Brent said, they never made it to his and my end of the woods, so I've never seen them.  If anyone has extras kicking around let me know.  If not, one of these days I'll hunt them down.

This is the first time I've seen the Solomon Grundy BAF.  Wow.  Series 3 looks fantastic.

Picked up series 1 today.  I have no expectation of them coming to Canada, so I paid WAY too much for them from a local comic shop.  But I've always been a big DC guy, so that's alright.  I have to say, on the whole they look better then the initial pictures that I had seen for them.

Question for anyone who has been collecting these from the prior line (and has the new ones).  How do the other figures fit in with these in terms of looks and scale?  I was very interested in the luthor, robot braniac and darkseid when they came out (last year?), but wasn't interested enough to try tracking them down.  Now that I've got this wave however...

So if anyone can comment on how they look, or better yet post a pic, it would be appreciated.

For those who have seen them, what's the price point on these?

That sinestro is awesome.

I recently picked up the Batman and Joker from the DC Direct "Batman and Son" series.  Very nice.  I keep saying I'm not buying any more Batman figures, but then they keep putting out ones that really impress me.  Damn willpower.  I don't seem to have any.

Picked up my Dengar bust today, and the Royal guard should be out in a few weeks.  Top on my wish list is the Tie Pilot (why haven't they done that one yet!!!), 4-LOM, and farmboy Luke.  I'm also hoping we eventually see a re-posed Fett, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.  After that, I think I'm done with the line.

I gotta say, the Ackbar and Tusken look real nice though...

Other then Stormtrooper luke, I don't have a luke bust.  I would like to see farmboy luke, simply because it's his "classic" look (in my mind).  Other then that, jedi luke and dagobah luke are my favorite looks.  With that, I was pretty excited when jedi luke was first announced - until I saw pictures.  GG has always done a great job, but their choice of pose, and the sculpt, really don't do it for me with jedi luke.

The 70's batman is way too buff, but other then that the figures look great.  I've always been a big DC fan, so the chance at some obscure characters is pretty interesting (though scary).  The biggest issue is, these things don't really seem to have showed up north of the border.  I really wanted to get the brainaic, luther, and darkseid from the earlier waves, but never did see them.  So, I currently have no figures from this line.  Maybe that's a good thing though, I'm not sure.

Different topic from the raffle business, but I picked up my obi-wan bust today.  I haven't seen anyone else comment on it, but I have to say I quite like it.  I think they did a great job with the likeness.  As the human characters go, I think it's one of the better ones GG has done.

The classics look nice, but I really don't need another line to spend my $$$ on.  The royal guard however...

That and the Tie pilot are/were at the top of my "wish list", so I'll be getting that one for sure.  If there was a boring/old man style emperor, I would be tempted to get two.  Thankfully the only emperor is the ROTS one (which looks really nice, but I'm sticking with OT).

I was on the dc comics website last night, and in the DC Direct area they have a link to an "under construction" page for DC Unlimited.  Not a lot of details, but it sounds as though DC unlimited will be a new line of toys, and it says it will be seeing release in comic shops and retail outlets (or something like that).  Could be interesting.

Why is it that Dengar, who in my opinion is one of the lamest bounty hunter designs, always has really well done figures/products?  Of the POTF 12" line, he was probably the best done.  In the hasbro 3 3/4 inch line, the one that came out a few years ago was fantastic.  And that bust looks great.
My only bounty hunter bust is Bossk (which is fantastic).  I would get a boba if they ever re-did it, but the ig-88 and zuckuss don't really appeal to me.  That Dengar is pretty appealing though - even if it is a lame character design.

I'm also interested in seeing a hoth wave.  I haven't gone through the list of figures, but off the top of my head I'm guessing Empire is the most under-represented for figures.  Well, other then wave 1.

I also want to see some sort of a chewie and r2 one day.  I know I'll never get an early bird set, and those are two characters that leave glaring holes in the collection.

Just checking on anyone's thoughts on the recent Batman figure from the Crisis line.  I just picked it up and it's a pretty nice figure, but it's also a bit of a disappointment.  Lately DC has been doing a number of "artist specific" figures, where they're sculpted to match the style of the artist.  Generally I'm not a fan of this, but I'm a big George Perez fan so I thought it would be cool to have a batman figure done in his style.  From the promo pics I thought the figure looked pretty nice, so I ordered it.
Well, if it weren't sold as a Crisis (Perez) batman then I would really like it.  But it looks nothing like a Perez batman - especially the head sculpt.  Also (and I don't know if I just have a mispaint), on the promo pics and the box they show Batman having the black shading or whatever it is on his head.  In my figure, the head is all blue.
Has anyone else picked this up or seen it?  Is mine a mispaint, or did they produce them like that?
