Watto's Junk Yard / Re: stolen action figure - humbug
« on: August 5, 2006, 11:54 PM »
I don't  know if this is the same thing or not, but a couple months ago a receptionist stole Bacara, Yoda, and my Gran from my operatory and returned them and played it off as a prank when I started bitching.  I did think they were stolen for a little while.  I told her I'm going to rip her teeth out if she does it again and you should do the same.

How exactly will Brent telling your receptionist that he will "rip her teeth out if she does it again" get his Yoda back?  Are you suggesting she's involved somehow?

How I've missed you, Josh.

Yeah, I know. I neglected to take the blue pill and learn to hate that place like everyone else, so that makes me the a-hole.

Sorry, I'll shut up now.

I thought the blue pill made you a bigger dick, not a bigger *******?  But I'm not a pharmacist.

Happy birthday you sick Hooters-obsessed pink-sweater-wearing ****!  ;D

I second that! It's been too long, Matt.  I need to figure out how to get some time with you when we're in So. Cal. later this month.

I'm going through the ridiculous trading offer process over there. I've gotten about 20 PM's asking if I'd be willing to trade a loose Tie Fighter pilot for a carded Covert Ops trooper. Two or three people have had the audacity to PM back saying I was being unreasonable. ???

I have an open Bic pen cap that is missing the pen for trade. Would you consider a loose, incomplete pen cap for your carded Cover Ops Trooper?

Don't make me call you unreasonable.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Do You Tip?
« on: July 28, 2006, 11:29 PM »
I never understood the mentality of telling your employees (especially those making minimum wage) that they could not accept money for providing an extra service. I guess they don't want the tipping to get out of hand so customers feel obligated to tip, but tell that to someone back in the day where minimum wage was $5.50 an hour.

I'd guess that companies feel if customers are paying money as a tip to their employees it leaves less money for the customer to spend on products. May not seem like a big deal, but it would add up over time.

I think you're right about a corporate culture of employees soliciting tips possibly making customers feel uncomfortable in the long run.

Talk about extortion tipping, the taxi cab companies excel at that. I don't mind tipping, but the cabbies I've had lately have left a lot to be desired. Yet, they behave as if the tip is expected as their pay separate from their attention or level of service. I've had some great cab drivers in the past, but the recent bad ones have been stereotypical drivers in NYC and Las Vegas.

Of course there are good reasons for not tipping.  I really can't stand attitude, so that right is the deciding factor.

How do you let them know their service / attitude / whatever was the reason for not leaving a tip?  If you're making a point, how do you know they get it?

I wonder about that sometimes.

It honestly never occured to me to tip when I pick something up myself.  I'm not trying to stiff anyone -- but how does ordering a pizza, me driving to get it, waiting around for them to finish it and then paying for it merit a tip for them?  What's difference between that and me walking up to the counter at any other food joint and ordering a salad/sandwich/pizza and having someone prepare it for me?   Must I tip everyone? ???

Are you saying you don't tip the cashier at the grocery store? Wow, that's just low. You obviously don't appreciate the service they're giving you.  >:(  Yeah, I'm with you.

How about haircuts?

Yeah, I tip haircuts. In Minnesota I went to a place where the owner cut my hair, and I tipped him because I considered him a friend more than becuase it was customary.  I think I was tipping 3-5 dollars on a 15 dollar haircut.

In Utah, a woman (also a friend) cuts our hair and I tip her because I know she's having a hard time right now and because I feel her prices are a little low.  She's charging either 15 or 17 or 18, I honestly don't know because I've just been writing the check for 20 or 25 since we moved here in 2001. She worked with one other person when we first moved here, now she works out of her basement.

What about at the holidays?  Do you guys tip more for regular services (haircuts vs. eating out)?  Do you somehow acknowledge that it's more because of the holiday?  What about city workers, newspaper delivery or postal carriers?  I wish I did more at the holidays, but I'm not sure what is appropriate.

I'm with Rob.

Just because it's on the receipt doesn't mean they get a tip - that's lame. I'm trying to remember the exact circumstances, but there was one particular place I went that was especially forward about the on reciept tip line. I always put a slash through it because I didn't trust wherever it was to not write their own in should I choose to ignore it.

I was lucky to see this in person earlier this year – the pictures look amazing Rob. You've done a great job of arranging and grouping the different figures together. It's really impressive, especially all of the free standing figures that don't have stands.

Thanks for taking the time to share these!

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Comic-Con 06
« on: July 22, 2006, 10:24 PM »
It's easy to get caught up in all of the new product discussion and things that were presented at Comic-Con, but I'd like to thank the JD for the great coverage again this year.

Jared has done a great job getting photos of stuff, and I think he got the first images up from the Hasbro Powerpoint presentation. I loved being able to check in real time what they were announcoing during the Q&A. I'm missing a lot of the personal observations and stories and pictures from Hooters and drunk Colman rants, but I believe they'll be shared in the next couple of days. I'm talking to you, Jamie!

Thanks for all you guys do to report and share your experiences at Comic-Con.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think I've ever been offended by you Matt.  I'll think about it and see if I can come up with something.

01. Retaining wall and fence, backyard landscaping
02. Kitchen island, counter tops and built-ins
03. Stair railing to attic
04. 5th bedroom in basement
05. Resolve air conditioning issue in my attic/office

Bonus: 2 car garage w/patio top
