Collections / Re: Mikey D's collection

Mikey D,

Thanks for sharing, it must have been a blast putting it all up and taking shots for us here.

So what is the scoop on the framed Lego Star Wars???

Unleashed, one of the few lines that I started but am considering selling as I know I will never be able to track down an unmasked Vader, Fett, etc. without using my house as collateral.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Storing vintage figures
« on: June 14, 2005, 10:00 AM »
inadvertent imitation,

I would imagine that this would be fine if the case is not stored in a hot or humid place.  But moreover what in the world are you doing by not displaying these gems ???

DBK

I bought those C-3PO and Vader carrying cases that were exclusive to Wal-Mart recently and have decided to store my vintage figures in them.

My question is, is that good for the vintage figures long-term? I just don't want to end up with discolored figures later on since I have put a lot of cash into updating my vintage collection.

Thanks and other love.

Dale,

I'll second that!  I have to add a Whoa Ha Ha for the price :o.  I'll sleep better that knowing I paid $60 for mine at a local collecting show last year.  My wife just came over to the computer looked at the price than walked out of the room.

DBK

ON the other hand... :o

Whoa, that is one of the nicest card walking R2's I have seen in awhile.  :o

Guys,

Thanks for the support.  I went the cheap route on my collection and bought some complete figures and some figures with no weapons and than bought lots of weapons to complete my figures.

The later was both educational and frustrating.  I consider myself darn near an expert on the repro weapon issue so if anyone needs some input let me know.  I had to earn the knowledge!  Dale can probably remember one of my first threads, a panicked one as I bought a lot of figures and something like 35 out of 40 had repro weapons :o!

2/3 of my collection was purchased from a great guy named Randy from the old Google Boards.  I bough in three lots and he sold each figures to me as a lot price of $2-$3 each including some POTF figures!  All were in C9-C10 shape.  I don't know what I would do without that deal.

All in all it was fun!  I have a total of 17 variations and will keep my eye out for more.  Personally I like the OT movies a lot more that the PT movies and there is so much sentimental attachment to this line for me.  So much so that I sold all my modern stuff and all I collect is the following:

Vintage
Rebel Storm Miniatures
Kubricks
Clone Wars
Code 3 Mini Poster Line

Gregorbian,

My advice to you would be patient, if you can to get those pieces at a price where you would have to donate a body part.

Cheers,

Vintage Kenner / Re: Favorite Vintage Playset(s)?
« on: June 13, 2005, 10:50 PM »
First, great topic!

Well, I have steered clear from playsets for the most part because I have no good way to display them.  Don't chastise me for saying the following.

I have an office / collection room that is 10 feet by 12 feet.  I just cannot get myself to fully make it a Star Wars Room.  It's just personal preference to make the room overwhelming with Star Wars stuff thus I never went after playsets.

Now that I am finished with my "100" I may start, who knows I could have a change of heart.

I agree with Chris M the Death Star Playset is the one playset with the most sentimental memories associated to me.  Every year we persuaded my dad to let us open one package on Christmas Eve.  One year I went for the biggest present, low and behold it was the Death Start Playset :) ;) :D ;D 8) :-*!  I remember opening it at about 11:00 PM and completing it and playing with it until about 12:30 AM.  I feel asleep on the floor next to my playset, fond memories.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Best vintage deals you've gotten
« on: June 13, 2005, 02:16 PM »
Anthony,

Good for you.  So are you complete on the 100?

DBK

To this point I got an imperial gunner for $20 w/o gun from a collectors shop and I think I got a decent deal on (all loose) a Yak Face, Imperial Dignatary, A-wing pilot, Imperial Gunner, pristine Y-wing, Falcon, Snow Speeder, Ewok Glider, Ewok catapult, Imperial Troop Trasport, 2 Endor Forest Ranger mini-rigs, desert skimmer and about 15 misc non POTF figures with accessories for $300.

Gregorbian,

Congrats, so how many more to go to finish the line?

I finally and I mean finally completed my 100 vintage figure collection last night  :) ;) :D ;D 8) :-*!

After needing a Lando General's cape for about 6 months, I won an auction for a complete one for $40.00 shipped.  Man it feels good to close those collecting gaps.

DBK

I finally got a POTF Imperial Dignitary and POTF Amanaman (both C-8+)  ;D
I'm that much closer to finishing the vintage line...

« on: June 1, 2005, 05:30 PM »
Brian,

Let's do it, my treat.  There is one right next to my job in Tempe off the 101 and Chandler Blvd.  Drop me a PM when you are up for lunch.

DBK

When I move out the Phoenix in a couple days I will have to eat at one of those In an Out places.  Back here in the Midwest I really like Portillo's.  But I think they are just in the Chicago area?

If we are going with the main chains like Burger King, Mac's, Wendy's, etc.  I would probably go with Burger King as well.  After all they are burger kings.  So, it all makes sense.

I just placed my order ;D!

IMO, these are just too cool to pass up.  Cost first than space are the major factors in my decision to collect a line.  Cost on these are high however these are "too cool fo school" and are small enough to display such historical recreations.

firesidecollectibles still has the first 3 up for pre-order for $65.00 each.

Well after just dropping some serious coin (serious to me at least) on a wall mounted plasma and a HD upscaling dvd, I cant help but buy DVD's like crazy in the near future.

These are my want list items:

Big Trouble in Little China SE
I Robot SE
Mask SE
The Professional Ultimate Edition
Speed 5 Star Collection
Starship Troopers Superbit

What do you guys find to be:

1) the most informative site on DVD Reviews?
2) the most comprehensive site to list upoming releases?

Adam,

Thanks, yeah it feels good to complete something.  I had a really cool guy (cjranck) trade me for the last six very rares I needed to complete my set including Fett and Palpy.

Yes, I used cd cases same as how I display my Kubricks inside a glass cabinet.  I think it looks clean.

Can you see my 3 pictures?  I see 3 boxes as if the pictures are not showing in my original post today.  Please advise.

DBK

Woo hoo I fininshed off my Rebel Storm Set!

DBK

Congrats!
Its a good feeling, heyna?
Your display looks sweet! Are those CD cases or something stacked up under them?
I have mine in a tackle box for when we play, but no one plays anymore and I think
I want to just display them, escpecially with the Huge coming and the AT-AT!
