Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: EE exclusive Clone Trooper 4-packs!
« on: May 24, 2005, 01:30 PM »
I haven't got a doubt in my mind that he's lying Gregorbian...  Typical.  He's scamming to get the figures he wants and hoping to make a tidy profit at the same time.  The packaging to those Clones would be incredibly easy to pull the old switch-aroo on though, there's no doubt he's full of **** on this.

Stuff like this makes me wonder, are these models NOT available for looking at? :)

The Tantive IV is so clearly based on "resource" material like EGVV type books...  It's not even funny.  Where the hell was the model at?  Was it not available for photographing.

When I was in the LFL exhibit at C3, I went ape**** taking pictures so when I make customs of this stuff, I'm making it right...  Does ILM not realize, they can do that?

The Prequel Trilogy / The Tantive IV is... NOT the Tantive IV?
« on: May 23, 2005, 09:01 PM »
OK, this caught me off guard in all 3 viewings, but the Tantive IV didn't LOOK like the Tantive IV in ANH that I remembered...  I found this odd, but I noticed RIGHT away the major differences and so tonight I checked a site that I KNEW would be talking about it and I had my thoughts confirmed...

The Tantive IV CGI Model in E3 isn't accurate...  at all.

It's main flaw is that a whole mid-section of the ship is gone.  Cut away...  ANH footage puts the length of the ship at about 150m compared to the Star Destroyers...  I agree with that, the films are canon.

The CGI guys at ILM today appear, to me, to have cut away the ship in the middle...  This happened to many sources as well because a publicity shot of the TIV in ANH has it at an angle where you can't see a mid-portion of the ship.

I'ts incredibly strange though...  There's other little subtle changes and things by the CGI guys...

I'm not terribly irked...  Explanations can be fudged on it, but I'm sorta saddened that they did such a sloppy CGI model of a ship from ANH that would be easy enough to just research and make an accurate model of.  It appears (as I see it) though that the CGI guys at ILM just took some reference books and used those designs instead, in all their inaccuracy.

I often need to have a tight grip on the figure I'm working on (or helmet or whatever) so I don't trust tools...  The thimble (outof tape) isn't a bad idea though.  I have put bandaids on my fingers to sort of give me a means to hold a piece while having some protection to my fingertips from flying dremel bits or sharp blades.

I was just reading my news post on Jedi Defender's front page with that (under "cockney") and I laughed my ass off.  That was well worth it...  Very good link Rob, you made my night.

I just don't buy it...I think it was the Force and not Palpatine...I can be proved all I want to from EU

I'm so far with you on this Scott.  Till I see otherwise, I'm guessing it's merely another attempt to pull puppet strings, and that Vader is likely the chosen one, the prophecy just isn't playing out as expected.  It ain't no fairy tale ending in this one.

Luke and Leia are the products of "balance" right now, as I see it.

Yeah, Dave didn't like it...  But that's just Dave. ;)  :-*  (j/k)

When I left the theater last night my buddy told me he'd have questions, and low and behold he did today.  He asked why Dagobah/Yoda wasn't shown since the children and Obi-Wan were.  I've heard this was filmed but deleted as well.  I'm imagining this film has a lot more deleted footage to it than any other SW movie.  Just a gut feeling right now, but I bet he could do one hell of a bonus DVD for this movie if he were so inclined.

Apparently, not a real fan, eh?   :-*

Obviously...  Now, go be ashamed...  Or wait...  would that instead be "go be dignified"?  Eh, whatever...  Go see the movie.

3...

1 was a preview on Tuesday night with local collecting buds set up by Bobafett14 (Thanks Bob!).  I had an intense headache throughout the movie though, and that sucked.

2 was the premiere on Wednesday which I have had my ticket bought for a while now.  Again, Bobafett14 (Thanks Bob!) bought out part of the VIP section at the Pittsburgh Loews Cineplex...  For $25 you got a nice buffet, plush seating in the best seats in the house, a sorta "special" event...  It was a good time, and Bob also made up some PSWCS VIP badges for everyone which were neat to have.  The bad news was I again was dealing with a raging headache most of the night.

3 was just tonight...  My non-SW buddy wanted to see the movie but had to go out of town this week for training so he, I, and another friend went to see the film...  I actually had even a better time the 3rd time than the previous 2!  I actually had a migraine headache tonight as well though.  Go figure...

Lots of fun though.  The film's fantastic to me.

That's definitely a sweet Zabrak character you made CHEWIE.  That's the kinda guy that fits into almost any diorama unless it's a strictly military type of one...

That is definitely sweet though, but not terribly complex either (no slight on you CHEWIE)...  The parts just match up really well.  The paint really obscures the figure a lot too, so the base is tough to tell...  Short of the sculpting on the shirt giving it away really, but it's looking pretty great I think.

A very neat background character...  You've gotta have one full set of dioramas with these types of figures.  They gotta be going somewhere after the photonovels I figure. :)  Your Cantina's at max capacity.  Time to put the velvet rope across the door I think.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: MetalJedi's Customs
« on: May 23, 2005, 01:03 AM »
Great customs MetalJedi, I like them both...

Like DD, Clones can draw a little bit of a burnout but I like a repaint as much as the next guy.  There's some talk of printable decals possibly in the works so people can make their own a little easier too.  Like astromech repaints, you see a lot of them it seems, but that's alright...

The Kyle's very creative I think...  The color on the shirt, and the pants, looks fantastic, and the pads on the shoulders look really great.

I think the Madine head is creative...  I'm not sold on it looking like Katarn exactly, but the paintjob helps it and it does look good.  I think Hasbro's head is a little closer (but still not perfect...  It's not close enough to the DF or JK Katarn for me...  Actually it looks more like a JO Katarn than anything, which is ironic).  The head is not a big issue though, it's creative and close at least.

If I'd suggest one thing, a holster for his Bryar gun would look good and help him match up to some pics of him more, but it'd be a bit of work too.  I like him though, he looks pretty great.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Post your ROTS reviews and thoughts!
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:53 AM »
I actually agree with Jedidz23's opinion on how Leia can remember her mother though it seems impossible...  I view it as a force thing mostly.  Potentially a difference in the way the two children are raised, or things they're told during childhood, form the visions they have through the force...

But to me the explanation that first came to my mind (and which I offered my buddy tonight who surprisingly cited the Leia flaw right away, he impressed me being a more casual fan :) ) was that Leia's having sort of "dreams" she perceives as reality/memory of her mother...  I don't take that as grasping at straws since my mind didn't even stretch to come up with an excuse, but rather that came right to me when my buddy asked about that.  Why Luke doesn't have a memory...  I suppose anything from the focus of his thoughts to the focus of his life in general could've had an effect on that.  Luke only asks about their mother after he's seemingly had some time to reflect on who he was told his father was...  Maybe Luke's lack of thought towards his family (since his Uncle had put something else in his mind) made him lose memory of her?  Lose the connection that Leia perhaps retains because maybe Bail/wife raised her with more talk of Padme...  Who knows.

It's one of those loose-ends I'm sorta sad that the movie didn't tie off...  That, the Qui-Gon thing, etc...  There definitely was room for another hour's worth of footage.  I feel that way about very little around the prequals. ROTS really won me.

The classic trilogy had me wanting more...  AOTC only had me wanting more about the war, maybe a tie-in space battle (Such a missing aspect of these 3 films), but ROTS I could've sat through another hour of just MORE.  :)  After 3 screenings I'm set for a 4th with anticipation.  Just hearing my buddies walk out with me tonight (Casual fans, but not die-hards who have to be at premieres or collect anything) and they're raving about the movie...  That felt great.  Guys that usually were critical of the films were now asking me questions, and actually discussing stuff with me without making fun of SW in its current state.  That rocked.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Is Mace Windu a "bad egg"...?
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:33 AM »
I tend to like mace in the movies too...  He's almost cold/emotionless to me which I think's more intentional than an acting flaw.  I can handle the scream during the fall in E3 too...  Luke was whining like a bitch in ROTJ when he got lightningninged, so I'm just wagering it hurts mighty bad (even for a Master).

Luke looked like he was passing a kidney stone actually.  Curled on the floor and begging for help.

I liked his death overall...  I just got back from my 3rd time at this movie and it's actually even better to me really.  My buddies went with me this time, and they're the "non-fan" fans who want to see every movie but don't do the whole collecting thing or premieres or whatever...  They usually are also the most critical of the films out of the distinctly separate groups of friends I have, and actually had no major gripe at all.

One cited a "plot hole" but I debunked it slightly with a potential excuse.  Doubt he buys the excuse, but it works for me to disregard it as a plot hole at all.

Here's the original bumped up for the masses.

I unlocked it since I think the C3 one's maybe got potential new entriees but mostly has run its course...  If one of the other staff wants it as the regular pic thread though, they can lock this one back down.
