Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Rebelscum Spam Mail? WTF???

If you guys ever hold a Pennsylvania JD meeting, be sure to give me a holler.

I think that'd ammount to myself, Bob, and you Bill....  ;)  I just don't run into PA guys much.  I think they do consider PSWCS their home.  I don't personally, but only because I can't abide email servers anymore...  I stick with Pittsburgh's local forum since it's the best for the local guys, and that's generally enough PA stuff for me.

I do like to think of myself as a pseudo-PSWCS member though since I did try it briefly, and since the meetings are always on my priority list.

Anyway, as far as content though, I have to agree with Chris that while there's some things Scum has that fulfill a need, I can't say that they're dominant in any way.

I look through the customs area there, however it has degenerated in the past year +, and I think FFURG.com does a better service to the customizing hobby.  Rebelscum is generally filled with people looking for praise.

Rebelscum's vintage area has taken a nosedive.  While there are still many of the knowledgeable folks there, many have also headed off for greener fields as well, and the truly knowledgeable there don't always speak up anymore.  I can't blame them either considering some of the people they've had invade that area.

The older collection areas (POTF2,E1, etc.) are more often than not just BAD conversation...  People asking for prices, value, etc.  I can't exactly look at that as quality.

Newer collecting areas (OTC, ROTS, etc.) are more often than not filled with A) the condescending, arrogant, ego-manaical pricks who (if they were here) would be (or some even are) banned...  B) the "newbies" who come in with the intent of running the show there...  C) the kids who are what they are...  D) the odd person trying to make conversation good.  I stress that D is the minority.

Other Collectibles, Lego, and their film/EU areas tend to have more traffic.  More people with more questions and such, but also these areas (especially the film/EU areas where I do go often still) are more and more filling up with what the newer collecting areas have.  A lotta jerks, a lotta kids, and a handful of people that it's fun to talk to.

Trading...  More people is good and bad.  We don't have the issues with bad traders they do, and I have to say that we act more swiftly on any situation that would arise.  For instance, Matkatnadam's blatant scalping of the Lava Vader would have garnered him at the very least a suspension here I would think.  His beligerence on the subject would've been banishment.  Simple as that.  Yet there he is at Scum (What the hell happened to "Collect to Collect" and all that ****?)...  Is that good?  I dunno if that's who I want to converse with personally.

EDIT: BTW, maybe I just don't trade much, but I think I've done 99% of my trading here and 1% at Scum.  More people is ok, but it doesn't necessarilly mean you won't get the job done here either.  Usually when I need something someone here's willing to help first.  AND, the few times I have traded at Scum I've gotten **** from the other end because it's often some new guy with no established record who wants things his way...  Again, is that quality?  Seems riskier than Ebay to me.

Wuher's is a joke compared to here IMO...  Not even a comparison.  I'll take less one-liner responses, good moderating, and generally good mature conversation over that.  Wuher's offers you some good posts, but you have to find them among the sludge that is 80% to 90% of Wuher's conversation.  From entire topics right down to single responses.

Basically what I'm saying is I don't really want to dig through a 12 page topic to see what the conversation between JoshEEE and JohnH was, when I have to weed through blight's, "Hey that is cool", Yodaboi's, "Sahdut upa you mron!!", or several  ::):P , or  >:(  ;D  :D 's...

Oh yeah, and the ever present "Me too!"/"I agree!", of course.

Smaller?  Less traffic?  Maybe...  but I think when I break Rebelscum's traffic down to what I ACTUALLY read, it perhaps evens out, and I'd actually say there's more here I'm actively reading and find interesting.

That's my take...  I started looking this way when Matt pointed my eyes this way...  Long before I even considered a job offer.  This was just better.  This was where the names I knew and appreciated had gone.

Some stuck by Scum.  Some went to GalacticHunter (more than are at Scum by a longshot in and of itself), and the vast majority came here.  And more have come over since, so I'll never look at Scum's traffic as anything more than clutter I am labored to pick through to actually read the INTERESTING post.  And they sure as **** are rare these days.

I'm cool with that I guess, but kinda blows that they're selling my information, basically, to others.  It's good, and it's bad...  At least it ain't spam, or my email address being passed around like a $2 prostitute to god knows who anymore.   ::) :-X

Yeah, but do YOU have a Target card Matt?  I don't.  I'm at a loss as to how they got my address.  Target doesn't ever ask for it, so I'm really curious where they got it from...  Unless they were somehow able to track it through my use of my Debit card, and saw I buy SW figures...  That's a pretty good Database they have though, if that's the case.

This is a mystery to me.  ???

I got mine in the mail today, completely unexpected, and I too was of the frame of mind that it really wasn't so big a deal now that they are putting stuff on $1 off sale the day after.

That's nice of them in a way, but it makes the coupon sorta redundant.

Revenge of the Sith / Target Coupon... Some hope?
« on: March 29, 2005, 07:21 PM »
Well I just got ahold of my mail, and low and behold I too got the Target ad with $1 off figures coupon...  I don't hold a Target card, nor do I ever get anything from them in the mail, yet I got one, so yay me.

Some hope for those wanting that coupon...  May be able to try using it over at Wal-Mart, or as I recall someone thought about trying to use it for a price adjustment too at Target, if I recall correctly.

Seems like more of us may get these coupons than we once thought though.  I'm really amazed I got this, to be honest.  But either way it seems that figures are going $1 off on 4/3 anyway.  Maybe picked over some, but either way it's good news for folks.

Emailing philip is all a ploy to get more emails.  It's a scam I tells ya!

« on: March 29, 2005, 11:16 AM »
You got better eyes than I do.  I thought that was Bespin Capture Han, but those legs did look goofily spread apart.  You're right, that's definitely some Endor Raid Han there.

Holy ****.  I can still get that for like $1 or $2 at KB right now.  I'm in some kind of "Are they this challenged!?" shock right now.

If that's what we're gonna get for the Classics though, I sorta wish it had been.

The Death Star duel Vader and LUke?  You gotta be ******** me!?

And that Commtech Stormtrooper needs to be retired.  I'd say the same of that Chewbacca sculpt too since VOTC exists for both those figures.  The Han looks like POTJ Bespin Capture with really widely spread legs for some reason.  That's sorta goofy...

Color me unimpressed with that.  That first set with Assajj Ventress intrigued me some but this is blech.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Deluxe Figures
« on: March 29, 2005, 10:08 AM »
Sounds like a 3-pack with E3 heads...  I'd be surprised if it isn't, and it is actually something like 3 of the SA Clones from ROTS or some such.  I'd be friggin' amazed actually.

This smacks of the army builder 3-pack with a new head, at most.

I gotta say, I long for a BD 3-pack of just 3 BD's anymore.  Damned if I'm not hearing that BD in ROTS's line isn't as flimsy as Saga's was though too.  :(  Why can't Hasbro make a Sturdy droid like they did in Episode One's line?

hmmm, I wonder what figures they include in that though.

I like the troopers better...  That Sith one could blow if it's really lame repacks.

This is sort of like action figure spam then.

Is this the wave of the future or something?  Seems like all the "cool folk" are doing it despite its perceived lameness.  :)

This totally rings of B-E-S-U-R-E-T-O-D-R-I-N-K-Y-O-U-R-O-V-A-L-T-I-N-E...  ::)

Jeff

A crummy commercial?!?  Son of a Bitch!

Yeah, I actually thought the same thing when I read this, but then my 2nd thought was ALSO that, "what the hell kinda kid is gonna get all 3 exclusives to play this goofy game?", when they basically are making all 3 exclusives a pain in the ass.  I somehow doubt a kid's choices of going to all 3 stores are really that broad.  At least mine weren't when I was a lad.

I dunno, this just is silly to me.

That was probably at someone higher's orders.  I'm sure behind-the-scenes it was discussed, and the conclusion was to simply lock it down and punish anyone who brings it up in the future.

To each their own...  If that's how they wanna run the show there, they're welcome to do so.  It's a real shame because to me you build a community by actually being a part of it.  Ruling it without concern for the people there is one major blight on Star Wars collecting though.  I'm really rather shocked on some level that no effort was made to ammend this though.  It's just "my way or no way" for those that the illicit emails actually effected though.

The only problem I have with EU prior to ANH is that there's some pretty good stuff established that I'd hate to see NEW stuff trample on.  I'd dig it if they looked deep in the EU, and made it all fit in one cohesive story...  It'd make any potential thing they try more entertaining for me personally, especially since a lot of the pre-ANH stuff I really dig...  Hate to see it get dumped on.
