I can't believe they are going so far as sending Dustin down here to Dallas this weekend to sell subscriptions at Phillip's convention!

I can believe it.  Face to face, he'll probably be able to sell a lot more subscriptions too.

Wasn't that leak intentional?  I always thought it was.

It tarnished his reputation.  Wouldn't you agree?

Not to me. I thought the whole thing was a ridiculous witch hunt to begin with.

His reputation was tarnished for other reasons that had nothing to do with his impeachment in my eyes.

Which brings me back to the topic at hand.  GW being impeached wouldn't save us from another 2 years of him.  I'd certainly think his crimes against our country are a lot worse than getting a blow job and lying about it, but I doubt he'll ever have to answer for them.

Didn't Clinton get impeached?  How exactly did that hurt him?

If only C4 could be held in Las Vegas.  Cheap hotels, tons of convention centers, and lots of entertainment when you're not at the con.

Why can't they just do it there?

I have heard a lot about the Jason Mewes drug problems on Kevin Smith's assorted web sites over the years, but reading the summed up version was a really good way to get a window into it and feel like you know the guy.

I'm not sure how I'd feel being one of his friends (or his friends friends).  It would seem that no one is safe from his blog.

BTW....one thing in that article disturbed me to no end.  It was not drug related, it was that Kevin Smith (even after making it big in Hollywood) is apparently a toy scalper.

Talk about a fallen idol.   Damn.

3.11 cents here in Seattle yesterday.

Prices have officially inspired me to look up bus routes to work.  This is what it has come to.  ;D

Back to the topic at hand, as you can guess, I was the unfortunate victim of infidelity, which is the major reason why my nearly 10-year marriage failed & I ended up divorced.

Man, that's a real bummer. After 10 years, I imagine you figure you have it made. I've become much less cynical about marriage since I agreed to partake in it myself, but stories like this always make me worry a little.

The thing that keeps ringing through my head as I read all these posts is that a good portion of the folks in this thread may have been cheated on more than they know.  It's not a hard thing to get away with and most of the time you only find out about it because the other person decides to tell you out of guilt.

It's happened to me before a couple of times (that I know of) back in my younger days and I have been the guilty party (or helped someone else cheat) before too.

The only thing I've learned from cheating, hooking up with someone who's in a relationship, or being cheated on is that nothing is forever and words are only words, no matter what people think.

I'd rather see someone win that didn't send out messages to the entire community to support him and banners on 30 different sites.

Well, again...I suppose like any election, it's not about the best candidate for the job, but the one who has the most backing.

Personally...I don't see how this contest is anything but a drive to sign up people for that piece of **** Hyperspace service, so Dustin deserves to win it as much as anyone.

I would have liked to have seen Jeff give him a run for his money to make things interesting, but I'm underwhelmed by the support for him so far.  It sucks that this USC guy isn't a collector we all know, I'd love to find out how he's getting all the referrals.

Are we talking a couple of boxes or cases of cookies?

What's the maximum before it becomes "unethical?"

As far as Girl scout cookies go, I think it's definitely in the cases these days.  Gone are the days when they would go around their neighborhood with a wagon.  Now, one mom takes her kids to Safeway to stand outside (both doors) peppering customers with sales pitches.

Another mom takes hers to the ferry terminal, where they ask every car waiting for the boat to buy a box (My last trip across, I bought two).

One co-worker buys several cases from his daughter then sells them at work a few weeks every year.  I've bought a few of those.

In the end, yeah....some girl scout without overzealous parents may lose out on whatever the prize is.....but the Girl Scouts as a whole win.

Dustin is surely making the folks at Hyperspace happy.  Imagine if he was taking referrals for a product that DIDN'T suck ass.

Not to fuel the fire, but I totally agree. I'm against buying votes, which is exactly what this is.

First of all, this entire contest is about buying votes.   It has nothing to do with your level of fandom, your platform, how many friends you have, etc.  It's all about "how many subscriptions can you sell?".  In an arena like that, I don't know that there's anything wrong with buying a few to put yourself over the top.  When I was a kid I sold "Captain O" products (stationary and stuff) door to door, so I could win cool prizes.  I remember when I was a few points away from the prize I wanted, I had not problem buying an item for myself (or selling more to the family).  I don't see how this is any different.  Dustin is running for a free trip to Comic Con.  If he was down by 4 votes, he'd be stupid NOT to buy a few subscriptions and pop himself over the top. That trip is expensive.

We should have a true fan win, not the guy with the most backing and money. I think the buying of votes would put a big hole in their "we are just doing this for fun" speech.

You don't think that Dustin is a true Star Wars fan?  I know some of you guys don't like the dude, but come on.  Just because he works for Rebelscum doesn't mean he's not a fan just like (and probably even more than) a lot of other people out there.   As for "doing this for fun", it's become very obvious it's not just for fun anymore.  He's trying VERY hard to win.....and that's why I think eventually some cash will have to be laid down.  Maybe that USC guy is already taking money out of pocket, who knows?

Like any election, the person who has the best campaign and/or the most cash will win.  Dustin has the backing of tons of sites, plus the Rebelscum juggernaut behind him.  All of that's free.

Whoever this USC person is, they're doing it rather covertly.  Do they really have that many friends? Are they picking up the referrals of people who don't want Dustin to win?  Is it Lucasfilm just screwing around giving Dustin a goal to beat?  No matter who that dude is....he's doing incredible for having no campaign at all.

Still...When it comes down to the last week or two, I'd imagine if it's really close, the candidates could throw a few bucks towards their free trip to Comic Con into the kitty themselves. Up until this point, it's all been free, right?

That would be a crappy way to win, and I'm not even sure you could do it.  Wouldn't you have to have legitimate names, e-mail addresses and home addresses for each "member" who signed up?  It's not like one person or entity could donate $800 and then assign memeberships to people after the fact.

It would be very easy.  They could just sign random staff members, friends, etc up.  OR...they could just send 40 kits to one address using a bunch of different names.  It's not about "referrals", it's about selling subscriptions, and I'm sure Hyperspace doesn't care how many go to one place, or to fake people.

I predict this is exactly what will happen, and I don't think it's a crappy way to win at all.

It's just like those mothers that sell the hell out of Girl Scout cookies during the competition and then end up buying 20 more cases for themselves (which they bring to work and sell to their coworkers) to help their kid win a prize.

Up until now though, Dustin has probably gotten all of his referrals through the endless spamming.  I would imagine that in the final hours, Rebelscum will start registering accounts themselves to put him over the top.

It's what I would do if the race were that close and I were in Dustin's shoes.  Basically just spend the money you were going to spend to go to Comic Con anyway.

Then I'd give the accounts away.

Still wondering how the heck this USC guy has so many referrals.  Does he really have 60 friends?  Is he picking up referrals from people sick of the spam?  I'm really curious.

Is what she did any less heinous than a man -- hot or not -- having sex with a 13 year old girl and then trying to contact her again?

In my opinion, (which I realize is totally a double standard)...yeah.  I join the rest of the guys here in wishing that I had a teacher like that back in the day.
