The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Recent Clone Wars Finds/Purchases
« on: March 31, 2011, 09:12 PM »
My rule is to always wait one year for an item to show up before resorting to a seconday market.  Believe me, it works.

Years ago, I just could not find Lillipop Mace.  Looked for months.  Finally, I stopped thinking about him and figured I'd get him ebay at some point.  A few months later I was in a Rite-Aid and casually checked the toy aisle.  There he was.  Cheap too, like 5.99.

Patience is the key to cheap collecting.

Totally off topic...I sat next to Anderson Cooper in 1999 on my flight to Denver for the first Celebration.  He was on the phone and kept saying "One day at the show, then to the Ranch..."

At the time, I didn't know who he was, and he was obviously no big deal becuase he was riding coach as well.  I asked him if "The Ranch" was Skywalker Ranch, and he said yes, and we got to talking about SW and E1, which he was seeing early.

He was interested in me, because at the time I was working regularly with SW Kids Magazine and sometimes on "The Insider."  I was also working at Celebration (he was covering it for some news outlet) running drawing sessions at the kids booth.

He wasn't really into SW or anything, but he didn't seem to think that we were all nerds.

It's interesting to see the coomon thread here.  When we take charge of what we buy and don't buy, we're happier.

Truth is, my few favorite figure desires (Tatooine Biggs, Dr. Ezavan, Cz-3, anything McQuarrie related) have all been made.  I don't think I have any one burning desire for a specific figure anymore...well, maybe a few.  But otherwise, what we have been offered since 1995 has been beyound my wildest dreams, and I'm glad I've stayed with it...

I was just thinking about this.  We're trying to sell our house in May and I was packing up my collection for Open House events.  There was just so many figures...it just seemed endless.  While there's a ton that I really love, there were mnay I looked at and said, "Why did I buy that?"  (Many EU...sorry)

I've been collectiong my whole life it seems.  I was on board from 1977 to 1985, and the from 1995 to today.  I think that I just need to be more selective in what I buy.  I no longer buy them all, that stoped a while ago.  I think I may only buy whay I really, really want.

Here's an odd twist to the story...I've been dealing with depression for most of my post-teen/adult life.  It's come and gone over the years. A year ago, I finally decided to try some mediaction.  While it has helped some with the depression, this medication also helps with anxiety.  In truth, it has made me less anxious about collecting.  I don't really worry about "missing" anything.  I look at my collection and I'm happy with what I have, not worried about what I don't have.  I don't stop at TRU whenever I pass it.  I just seem to enjoy it more, and worry less about controlling it.  Maybe that's why I'm willing to just pick up what I totally dig.

I'm not out, but I am certainly not "in" like I used to be.

Years ago, there was a Target and a TRU that never stocked.  I walked through both of them three times a week, twice a day on the way to and from Grad school.

Eventually, I got so fed up, I started carrying little printed out cards I made that said "Please Stock The Star Wars Pegs," and on the back I had a list of assortments that were currrent.  I would hang these cards right on the pegs!

Nothing ever happened until the next film rolled around.

In a way I'm concrened as well...but somehow I think everything will show.  Yes, 2002/2003 was a huge drag, but I didn't miss any waves. They eventually shipped all at once.

Yeah, this is getting great.  Stay with it, no matter how much time it takes!

Speaking of armor and not including fantasy elements...you sould check out some history on Ned Kelly.  He wore armor!---Mike

These are just so awesome.  Chewie is, by far, the coolest thing you've ever done.  Keep up the excellent work.

Wow.  These are shipping?  I haven't even seen wave 4, and only three of wave 5 one time only.  I'm sure I'll see them, but I'm a little shocked to see people 10-15 figures "ahead" of me.

I think I'll have to bite the bullet and get a Blue Ray player in the fall for Star Wars.

Blue Rays terrify me.  I was reading about how I have to "update" it's software and all of that nonsense.  Not that I'm a luddite, it's just that I hate putting work into things that I spend a lot of money on.  It's more a time issue than anything else.

Watto's Junk Yard / Speedermike on Celebrity Apprentice
« on: March 7, 2011, 09:21 AM »
Hey guys, I thought you might like to know about this.  My ugly mug is going to be on national TV.

On March 13, I will be in "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC.  I shot my episode back in October.  I was on camera for about 10 hours, working closely on a project with one of the teams.  I can't say more until it has aired.  In all honesty, if I end up with 30 seconds of screen time, I'll be happy.

The following morning, I will be posting a story about the day of the shoot on my blog.

Hmmmm...I don't know about this.  I can't imagine these Maul cards, plus TVC, plus Clone Wars all at once.  I think TVC will take a break.  Personally, as long as I get some ANH stuff (RFT, Ezavan) on Vinatge cards I'll be satisfied.

Comercially, it would make sense to have Maul on everything for a year, then Jango with AOTC, then Grevious with ROTS, then Vader with ANH, then Yoda for ESB, and finally...hmmm who should be on the ROTJ card?  My vote is for Droopy McCool, but Jabba would be fine.
