The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 4 - AotC
« on: January 21, 2011, 07:56 PM »
It is fair to recognise the merit of the sculptors from this wave
Padme and Anakin very renaissance style
Jango has almost a complete paintjob on his surface, perhaps a small bit of Silver was necessary on the soles, except the heels of the shoes.
Mace is one of the best sculpted in gesture and configuration; this time he was depicted more atlhetic than previous versions.
The senate guard will serve as future background for next tfu royal guards, the face under the helmet looks nice, got the attitude of a security guard.
Fisto shares the torso of windu in certain way, except the collar zone, I wonder if the tentacles are some flexible, posable.
Also the paintjob of the tentacles is more detailed than previous versions.
Zam Wessel has got the evolution of the potj versions: more details, although darker paintjob on outfit.
Hmmm in sbd, I donīt see much difference, it could be forearms or stomach areas; but if they want to change the likeness, must develop an articulated head for this droid, or a removable one for battle damaged effects / dioramas.

Collect All 92! / Re: Lobot
« on: January 19, 2011, 02:37 PM »
Something I think about hollow spaces in action figures is the work Hasbro did with potf2 jawas, they put that yellow phosphorecent piece to recreate the glow of their eyes. Otc could have hold a similar red piece to simulate the glow of the lights of the headset (which is a wedge that enters a cavity).

The way the legs of otc Lobot are disposed is similar to tvc Ackbar (except for the knee joints of course), this could be one recomendable way to mold the new Lobot, and with the struggle for the ultimate paintjob, giving the soles a different gray shade from the shoes.

Looks like during vintage era, Kenner refused to sculpt or paint boots (example Bespin Han with boots the same colors as his pants, anh Luke same case; others who wore shoes didnīt have them painted: Bespin Lando, Lobot, Tusken, jawa, etc.

Ugnaught didnīt spot boots in the eighties, but his unique pig feet under special pig shoes.

Later vintage potf produced more characters with black boots; like Carbon Freeze chamber Han Solo and Endor Leia in battle poncho, but Kenner omitted to piant the yellow stripes on both sides of the pants.

TLC ugnaught needs more definition  on his fangs paintjob
vintage version was more piggish, his feet, his face
modern versions humanized them more, but it was due movie accuracy, I guess.

Lee Phenet would be an interesting asset for the collection.

Shadows of the Dark Side / Re: TRU Deluxe Yavin IV Tech and Sled
« on: January 15, 2011, 09:17 PM »
New mini rigs era, they can update or re-release pdt 8 with a generic pilot.

I think the tech with the Yavin sledge could satisfy people not interesed in the other two repaints or kitbashses; but on the other side, the buyer lose the opportunity of getting a complete battle pack.

What we can expect for the new tvc vehicles, creatures:

For the tvc Sandcrawler (bmf style) more room and better proportion of the computers inside.
Lights on front and on top in the cockpit area (perhaps seats for 4 jawas)
Sounds, movie phrases (ok, they always do)
Two jawas included, perhaps kitbashes; desirable the towering jawa for variation.

Endor Speeder bike:
larger than former vehicle, with seat for two action figures; to recreate Luke and Leia chasing the biker scout.
Including pilot (Biker scout; Removable helmet? ok relax Hasbro, but donīt forget to paint yellow, beige or cream the bootsī soles.)

New sculpt Taun taun:
Like potf2, Hasbro made a kicking feature for Hanīs taun taun
Open belly variation for Lukeīs Tauntaun (but in movie argument was Hanīs)
Removable and colorful saddle, with pegs to hold binoculars, sensors.

All 3 Lobot versions deserve merit, they conserve the enigmatic expression of the character, even in the naif vintage one.
I think a tvc version would represent a challenge in depiction, starting with a removable belt (buckel detailed of course), and if he comes with a removable headgear, sculptors must prevent doing a hollow head, it would be desirable a complete head under that headset.

TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Three Discussion Thread
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:30 PM »
Thereīs another thought: it was said that in season 3 of clone wars the characters were advancing closer to their rots looks, they did the most accurate job  for Anakin, Obi Wan improved but keeps a pointy beard (in the chin area) and Dooku looks the most unreal of the group; his head is very conical, kinda Ki Adi Mundi, almost pyramidal the beard area is wider than the forehead.

Dooku needs an update in his head, the designers must soften his traits. In aotc and rots figures, for example, he looks more like Don Quijote, with a decent proportion of head and body.
Iīm not against the plot, cause seems the series got the necessary balance on entertainment for children and adult fans.

I will only buy the Ot characters from this wave. Hope in the near future Hasbro give us a new classic stormie, using the new sculpt they asigned to those PT clones.

Quote
looks like they're using the 06 Vintage X-Wing Pilot Luke headsculpt rather than the superior Bespin Luke headsculpt from the ESB wave

MMM, it seems as this head has no extreme pointy chin like 06 Luke Pilotīs, and the hairdress is similar to tvc Bespin Luke.

Probably the perspective of the photo is upside down, so they can still show another pics

His legs are no completely from tlc snowspeeder pilot Luke, they are in some way derivated from tvc Bespin Luke: the holster, the thighs with pokets on pants. This is what make us hope this figure would be a bit taller than tlc snowspeeder Luke.

Excellent rendition of Luke pilot. Looks a bit taller than tlc snowspeeder pilot, the face seems to nail Mark Hamill likeness.
A definitely must have for the collection.

I watched Assaj chapter for a second time; sheīs growing his force powers over the top, like TFU
I think Republic 60 comic should not be deleted from timeline; it will serve as a proving battleground for her
with adoptive parents, the Jedi Mentor, her role as a commander previous to her Dooku allegiance.

So Rattattak could appear in the series too (despite its onomatopeyic sound for a machine gun blast)

Other role for Asajj was as pilot in this chapter, only surpassed by Anakin, who damaged her vesel in combat, previous to the duel in the hangar.

The ongoing chapters promise a very sofisticated fencing, I wonder if they are taking advice from Nick Gillard or another  eskrima expert.

mmm... the dark side is clouding the comics timeline continuity

regrets for the change of Rattattak for Dathomir
but the flash back is very quick, they said Asajj left Dathomir, so Republic 60 could be true in a certain point of view.

As a literature and Linguistics man, I suggest the change for this planet is due to the stronger and more appelaing name of Dathomir, cause Rattatak is kinda cacophonic and so childish for a serious name.

Only future chapters could tell us if zabraks are originary from this planet (that will proof a loss of continuity, certain lack of variety). Iridonia was appealing too, for Iridium the radiactive element which ended the reign of dinosaurs, sounds strong, perturbing, dark side connected.

The nightsisters show themselves an organized army inside the galaxy, thier mother is cunning and able to conspire, she projects herself a competitor to Sidious (less powerful of course, but enough macchiavelic).

I regret Luke Pilot comes without hilt and saber, in the case of Ben Kenobi he lacks the chair and Leia hologram, but they used a different tone of brown for the softgoods. (When Hasbro repacks, they always diminishes accsesories; itīs and old and very known tale)

Looks like the stormtrooper is the same for the anh wave: Han, lUke stormie, gree, r5d4.
