The Vintage Collection / Re: Toy Fair 2011

Speaking of the big, long gaps in Hasbro product during the spring, I just wish they would let us know about it ahead of time, AND admit it is so that whatever movie stuff they are putting out does not have to compete with SW.

The Vintage Collection / Toy Fair 2011
« on: January 4, 2011, 10:56 AM »
It's that time of year again!   Time for imaptient goofs like myself to start daydreaming about Toy Fair.  At this point, I know to expect less than we were once used to, because Hasbro holds stuff for SDCC. While I don't understand this, since Toy Fair is for retail buyers, and SDCC for Fans, I have come to accept it.

I hope to see a few new waves of TVC and TCW figs.  I'm really hoping to see Dr. Ezavan painted up.  He's been my most wanted fig for years.

I am curious to see if there will be any special products for the Blu-Ray release.  While I'm not into packaging gimmicks, the Target Exclusive 9 pack format would be great.  Maybe one for each trilogy?

We have heard rumors of another big vehicle, but nothing concrete.  My guess is the Attack Shuttle from TCW. Maybe there will be some small vehicles we aren't expecting.  Who knows...

Feel free to jump in any time.

The only one that I think is weak is the Obi-Wan one.  It could have been a more exciting image.  While I don't love the logo, It's alright.  Skewing the text ala ESB would have helped.

Yeah.  Maybe a chain, and without the sitting legs, just so us people who found her last year can be bettter than the rest of you.

Height?  Maybe.   But since the vest never came off in the film, is it really that important?

I mostly agree, however, I do think that Hasbro could cater to collectors more.  For instance.  We have TVC and Legacy right now.  All of the Vaders, Anikins, Obi-Wans and Yodas and Chewies should all be in Legacy.  These are characters that are popular with kids, and Hasbro has excellent sculpts of each to work from.

TVC should only be collector oriented.  Did we really need another Vader?  Obi-Wan? Another Obi-Wan? Jango? I mean, come on.  They already had a sculpt of the little Utapau guy that was not used, and they didn't put him in the ROTS wave.

The new figures we've gotten in TVC have been great.  But imagine if there had been new figures in every slot that was a re-release.
Also, they have stated that they are not making "non-agressive" characters such as Jocasta Nu.  That stinks, and it shows that collectors are secondary.

Now, I understand their business model, and the scope they are working on, but they essentially don't have to do anymore work to satisfy the casual collector, and they could give the serious collector some more attention.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 3 - ROTJ
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:34 AM »
Finally found the GG after finding the rest of the wave a few times.

He's a very strong figure.  While the skirt is very poofy, if you don't want to cut it, it can be turned around with  the shorter part in front.

However...I am sick of removable helmets.  It was never something I ever wanted in my figs and I hate them.  Why?  Because they just fall off!  Sure, if there's  chin strap or a tight fit, I'll go for it, but this guy's helmet is just placed on.  Crazy glue here I come again...(Don't get me started about Cad Bane...)

Here's my take...TRU breaks the street date in Aug with TVC.  They sell really well becasue we all want new figs, despite price.  TRU orders more of the TVC.  However, it's still so early in the game that when the orders are filled, they are still all the ESB wave.  While they may have many more waves on order, and that includes ROTJ, they can't get them to the stores because the computers see the pegs as full.

Maybe. I don't know.

How do you know that TRU will not get this wave?

No.  There's a lot of cases in the pipeline, and too many new tools in that assortment to make a small run.  EE might have sold out becaus eit was such an awesome case/wave that people didn't want to miss it.

I agree...I've only seen the ROTJ wave once!  And I never got the GG.  So I assume there will be more.  I don't think they have even shown up at TRU, have they?

TV-9D9 / Re: The death or disappearance of Ahsoka?
« on: December 8, 2010, 12:02 PM »
Forget Ahsoka, I just want to see these two get killed, since they do not "exist" as of ROTS:

1) Asajj Ventress

2) Cad Bane

Huh?  Why don't they exist in ROTS?  Because they weren't mentioned?  That's a really literal way to look at fiction. Endor wasn't mentioned, but it exists...Hoth wasn't mentioned, but it exists...Sandcrawlers weren't mentioned, but they exist...Han Solo wasn't mentioned, but he exists...We didn't see Dodonna in ESB, but he existed...we didn't see the Kubaz spy in ROTJ, but he existed...and so on...

If you saw a movie about the U.S. Civil War, and they never mentioned Japan once, would you assume that Japan doesn't exist?

Anyway, about Ashoka...I don't think they will kill her.  She's become too popular and a symbol of girl power in the geek community.
I think she will be sent away, or run away at one point.  In fact, I think that Ashoka could return as a focus of more SW entertainment.

Who knows?  Maybe she's on that Outward Bound ship in the Thrawn Series...

Yeah...I think that any time you use a planet from the OT, you make the SW universe less epic.  There's tons of planets, and lots of cool designs to be seen.

Maybe the spoiler does happen, but it's the work of someone else...like a Sith Witch or something.

"As I posted many times before I cringe when I see Padme in the preview because I know the episode will suck. Now it crossed the line with their subliminal messaging." Jackoftradz

What subliminal message?  That war is bad? That peace is good? I don't think that's subliminal, I think it's been a huge part of Lucas's work since the beginning.  "Wars not make one great."

Also, I don't think the people in the Republic will pick up arms and fight.  I get the idea that many of them are too comfortable and too uninvolved to fight.
