The Bullpen / Re: The Avengers: The Toys

I ran into a couple Skrulls and a pair of movie Hawkeye figures at a KMart last weekend.  Didn't buy any but that Hawkeye figure is actually one of the best looking Avengers figures I've seen.  Much better than the Thor and Cap figures anyway...IMO.

They may have been sold in Dollar General but they were $6 each so that guy just did the standard and doubled it.  I really liked them more than what Hasbro put out for the Retaliation movie, though...well, I liked the GI Joe Trooper from the movie line.

But, yeah, the Dollar General figs have been hard to find.  I scored a full set in one shot at a store on the other side of the lake and then found 2 more at a store in a town about 15 miles from here.  Both stores are in really small towns and kind of out of the way.

I'm not really happy with a trilogy.  I'm okay with 2 because I have faith in Jackson's storytelling...but 3?  No.

Same reason I'm not happy to hear that they're splitting the 3rd Hunger Games book into 2 parts.  That book isn't significantly longer or more detailed than the first or second and I can't even come up with a good place that they'd break it up anyway.  Maybe other movies have done it, but Harry Potter was the first I remember that successfully split a story and because of the depth of the original material, kind of needed it.  I still have issues with Deathly Hallows part 2 but not because it was split.

Now it's just a blatant money grab by the studios because they'd rather milk the public than do something like, I don't know, come up with something else that doesn't suck balls?

******' accountants shouldn't be allowed to make movies.

I knew it was basically a skeleton on the bottom but that's too bad.  Has anyone got a link to a review of the SDCC version with pictures?  I'd like to see it compared to the photo Greg posted only with the Quinjet on the SDCC version for reference.

Even with its shortcomings, I was thinking about the SDCC version just because of the size and total ridiculousness of it.

No sightings of the Ninja Vamp here, but I didn't go in Target yesterday.  I'll probably pick that up if I see it, I think it's an excellent update to the VAMP, and I'm a big fan of this new design.

I'm actually happy I'm not the only one that had so many problems with it.  I figured I was going to be one of the only ones talking about how badly I thought it fell down while everyone else was praising its genius.  I felt throughout the movie that I was trying to catch up and as if I'd somehow missed 30 minutes from the beginning where they'd actually explained all the stuff I had questions about...but they didn't.

Spoilerish stuff below:

Quite a few of the problems Bill had with it I did also.  I didn't have as big of a problem with the final flight, but the redirecting of the truck and things like that, yeah, weak.

I accidently heard about the Miranda thing and it panned out, but the little kid, that I was surprised at.  I thought through most of the movie that maybe what was theorized before the movie was wrong and Bane really was the kid.  Loved the Liam Neeson cameo, that was a huge surprise.

Also didn't care for how Wayne just showed up back in the city, finds the one person that he really needs to help him and then takes on the bad guys.  I could have taken the healing part in the cave if it hadn't been piled on top of a limping, cane using Wayne at the start when it appeared the only thing that helped him back into the cowl was some fancy prosthetic device for his knee...and now he's healed his back and climbs out of a pit, which requires a huge physical leap on knees a 20 year veteran football lineman doesn't suffer from?  Whatever.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt getting so much screen time had me believing that he'd end up in the cowl at some point but I see where they went with it at the end.  But, even assuming there will be another Batman movie after this one, without Bale and Nolan, does anyone think that WB will bring JGL back for some role?  And what will that role be?  Robin?  Nightwing?  The new Batman?  I don't really get the time they spent establishing him when I doubt that they'll really continue to build the franchise on him either as an actor or as a character.

I will say that I definitely want to see it again.  I want to see if, on second viewing, did I somehow miss little things that helped hold the movie together or was I right after the first viewing and they really weren't there making the movie as disjointed as I think it is.  I thought the idea of the story was solid, but I felt there was too much extra in there that they got away from the heart of it.

I thought TDKR was a hot mess. I felt like I came in the middle and missed a bunch of stuff, wondering who all these new characters were that were suddenly key to the story.  Too little Batman in the movie as well.  It sort of felt like Spider-Man three at times, too many villains so other than Bane, some seemed to get the short stick.  Too much time on JGL's character....but I won't discuss my problem with this because it's spoilery.

There were flashes of brilliance but so few and far between I left the movie still wondering if I actually liked it or not.  I'm still not sure.  And, yes, there were a lot of flashbacks, all of which I  understood because I watched the previous two movies within the last 3 weeks or so.

I didn't compare it to The Avengers, I compared it to the first two movies and I don't think it stands up.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Thundercats, Hoooo!!
« on: July 19, 2012, 02:17 PM »
I think it's too bad that the show didn't get picked up for a 2nd season.  I never did see the rest of S1, after they took it off Friday night's, I kind of forgot about it and never remembered to follow it.

The toy line is on clearance at all the stores here and mostly sold out now.  I thought the toy line looked decent enough but after that first drop, don't think it sold very well.

I liked the looks of the minimates but not enough to buy any.  I didn't even buy any of the 3.75" figures in the end.

Hopefully the quantities of re-released "old" stuff will be on the low side.

You really typed that?  >:D Remember this next year this time when you still don't have Jinx, Blind Master, Bruce Willis or the cool army builders like Crimson Guard.  The fact is, even the hype behind a "cancelled" line making it to retail this year didn't generate a complete sell through. The 3-packs may be an exception, but it looks like the stores here got a second case and nobody has touched it.

Shipping more wave 1 next year is a complete cluster.  We'll see how it goes, but I have a feeling come SDCC 2013 the Q&A will be all about how Hasbro promised w2 and beyond and how we still don't have it.

Joe Defender / Re: 2012 SDCC Shockwave HISS and Jinx
« on: July 18, 2012, 11:34 PM »
I checked at the top of the hour, a couple minutes after and then looked away, saw a tweet saying the Carbonite site was up and when I hit f5 they were all out of stock already (except the Carbonite & Helicarrier).  Totally missed.

I already BINed a Hiss tank from eBay but no Jinx for me.  I'm kinda pissed because I was home and waiting just for this and still missed.  By reading the forums, looks like the tank was gone in 2 - 3 minutes and Jinx only a minute or two longer.  The Carbonite set lasted nearly a half hour and the Helicarrier a couple.

I'm still kind of pissed but nothing to do about it now.  From the interviews with Hasbro it's sound like it's only going to get worse from here on out.  They're focusing solely on SDCC now and the way they're talking, it sounds like they have even less interest in making these SDCC exclusives available after the show online.  My take away from this is that if you can't spend thousands of dollars to be in San Diego every summer you can go screw.  And, it took a Joe interview to get out the info, but they've already told the SW collectors to screw, no more Celebration exclusives by the sound of it.

Not really.  I think I only found two GI Joe Q&As from SDCC, The Terrordrome one you posted and one over at YoJoe.com.  I'm not sure if some of the other Joe sites actually had dedicated personnel at SDCC to do their Q&As.

The most interesting part of that entire interview, however, is the fact that HTS will only do one show per year now, and that show will alwasy be SDCC.  Anyone else think that's why they killed the Celebration VI exclusive, not because of some timing issue or whatever, but because the accountants decided that the store wouldn't travel?

And from all accounts, it sounds like Hasbro will have no presence whatsoever at NYCC anymore, not even a display booth and panels.  They're just not going at all now by the sounds of it.

So, basically, you get Hasbro at Toy Fair and SDCC and MAYBE Celebration and MAYBE Joe and Bot Cons...  But Celebrations aren't every year and who knows how much longer they'll decide to go to the two Fan Club events...I assume they'll want to be at those because it's their own licensed product but what about future Celebrations?  I guess LFL could demand they be there as the #1 license holder, but it sounds like the best we can hope for now is some display cases and a presentation out of them.

I just wish Hasbro would stop treating sales times like state secrets.  Just pick a day, Tuesday, Wednesday, whatever, and announce it along with the time.  Done.

But, instead, they play the "we don't know" game and push things off.  We deal with this with these companies all the time and there's not reason for it.  All it does is piss people off.

Every year I've been able to order what I wanted until last year.  Last year their site was so ****** it was ridiculous.  I managed to get 2 things off the site that I wanted, one because I was lucky and one because there wasn't the demand for it.  But the Joe figures?  Didn't even get a shot at them.

I don't think Hasbro knows.  I'm going with the "be at your computer for the next 72 hours or until they go on sale" method.  Starting Monday morning.  Or until we hear something from Hasbro.

I can tell you this, reports are that both Jinx figures, X-Force, Bruticus, the MLP and Jem figures are all sold out.  The Jinx figs are "sold out for show" while the other 4 are "sold out" according to the order sheet.  And word is only 5 Helicarriers left w/ 32 Carbonite Chambers in the booth w/ a handful in back.  Report courtesy of Galactic Hunter...

I didn't check them today but after the first post of them hitting discount I did and they were still original price at my store.

Anywone see the Tread Ripper and Ninja Combat Cruiser?  Apparently both were found at a Target in PA.
