Power of the Force 2 / Re: Japanese Exclusives Jedi Spirits
« on: May 16, 2003, 11:57 AM »
I think the sculpts on these are much more authentic. The Kenner (Hasbro) sculpts are too animated with the poses. The customs are posed as they should be; they deserve respect, they are proud and they look wise. Obi-Wan's robe is also done much better. I have heard about these, and I am still split on whether or not to include them on my Power of the Force Foreign & Exclusive lists (I am currently editing and reformating them). I think I will since they are a more publicized and many were produced (limited, but most customizers do not have the $$$ or the means to do this...). I realize they fall under the 'unlicensed' category, but I think I'll grant an exception for this set...

You definitely were smart to pick them up Wai. Nice catch and at a decent price too!

I am glad you posted the Diamond Shop Locator Nicklab. Good call! We all need a good dealer, um, errr, I mean comic book shop.

Other good reads and comics I recommend are:

- Jedi vs. Sith # 1-6 or TPB
- Splinter of the Minds Eye # 1-4 or TPB
- Shadows of the Empire #1-6 or TPB

Power of the Force 2 / Re: which one is rarest?
« on: May 16, 2003, 03:40 AM »
My vote would be Weequay because of the inability to get him in the U. S. He seems to be more difficult to track down (rare) and more in demand than the other 2.

If we are talking about rare though, you have to include:

- Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi red card (headshot/longsaber ) & (short saber/longtray versions)

- Boba Fett figures that are missing an emblem or skull

- Luke Skywalker (Tatooine) red card transition tray

- Pondo Baba green card, Collection 3, gray beard

honorable mention would go to the Freeze Frame Sandtrooper or the Captain Piett 'Baton' figure...

Power of the Force 2 / Millennium Minted Coin Collection...
« on: May 14, 2003, 02:05 AM »
I would love for someone to help clear up a few things with these.

What I know...

Every figure was released with a .00 version and some with a .01.

There is an error with a photo of the Han Solo coin. They both say, 'Bespin Han Solo' but on some of the the .00 versions an image of the Hoth Snowtrooper coin appears.

Han Solo was packaged with a Hoth Snowtrooper Coin in some cases.

The .00 version all have 'Millennium Minted Coin' text behind the coin and all other variations have no text.

My questions and requests...

If anyone has one or more of these, I would love to see an image of the box back to clarify some things.

What version (.00 or .01) did the Han figure come with the snowtrooper coin?

Guess that's it. Any help is appreciated...

What figures do you know that come with the Han Solo text below the Snowtrooper coin image error? I know that the .00 version of C-3PO, Palpatine, Luke & Leia have this error. Do Han Solo, Chewbacca and Snowtrooper have it too?

Is there a .01 version for C-3PO, Chewbacca or Palpatine?

Vintage Kenner / Re: IG-88 variation???
« on: May 14, 2003, 01:53 AM »
Found some interesting auctions that apply...

Much like your figure on the left dustro, this one details rubbery legs, solid eyes and a 'creamier gray color...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3129936030&category=2475

this next one is for a 'hollow' eyed variation with wide stance and I assume a harder plastic. The color doesn't seem as metallic looking in the photo, but it is different than the above auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3129936289&category=2475

because the photos of these are at different angles and the lighting is pretty stark, the color and detail are a little less obvious. I'd say we at least have some confirmation to your contributions and it seems they are rather well known variations (at least to the seller).

hope this at least adds to the mystery or curiosity of this particular variation...

If you can find a comic book/collectibles shop in your area that would be best in my opinion. Here's why...

1. smaller market stores are homey and appreciate your patronage. If you become a regular face in the shop and create a relationship of sorts with the employees/owners, they usually will go out of their way to help you and usually offer discounts if you start a file there of monthly publications or comics you want them to hold.

2. Most of these places order from Diamond Comics Previews catalog. They will let you order from them and you can get any and all SW TPBs in the Darkhorse section. They order what you want for you and at no extra charge.

3. You would be supporting your friendly neighborhood and local Joe who needs the $$$ more than the big businesses of the world (sorry, trying not to be too political. I know how much trouble it can get one into).

anyway, that's my opinion. I also recommend that for collectibles sake, you check into the actual vintage Marvel comics themselves. While you would most likely not read them, they are great additions to any Star Wars collection and take me back to a simpler time. Still looking for the Giant Size movie adaption comics! Mine are beyond recognition from just being a kid...

Vintage Kenner / Re: Vintage Checklist Revamp
« on: May 5, 2003, 01:10 PM »
I know, we ended up discovering that the green limbs Chewbacca is not unique to one factory after I had submitted the lists to Chris. It's pretty amazing how much I have to add and to edit a bit already...

I am looking forward to hearing anything you may have to add Zoso. I am glad you guys think they are well done!

Just some quick notes...

To the variation/error faithful at JD.com, Chris and I are currently trying to figure out the best way to post member submissions and newly discovered or recent variations brought to our attention. When this happens, I will update regularly to the new lists that I am exhausted from creating and proud of now that I see them up!

I am working on a list of resources and people that deserve credit for assisting me in creating these lists. If you have submirtted something to me, you can bet you will be on this list. I will post it and then update it as needed. Thanks for your love and desire to make the vintage as vital and important as ever!

If you have any additions, comments, questions, desputes and/or input on things we can do to improve the vintage lists, please let us know here or through email. I hope you enjoy looking through them as much as I did creating them!

This was a labor of love. The first were put up with the introduction of the site and were pretty dicey. After months of further research, clawing my way through checklist after checklist, searching out and hunting down the obscure and rarest of the rare and putting them in a tidy, neat new format (with Chris' help) I have done what I thought would never see an end. I wanted lists I was proud of and eager to show the world. Now I have them. I them the time and attention to detail they deserve. As an old-school, die-hard Star Wars fan, I am dedicated to making these as good for you as they are for me. All I need now is the winning Power Ball ticket to start crossing out items on these lists!

Feedback / Re: cohens4's Trading Feedback
« on: May 2, 2003, 06:14 PM »
Just traded with cohens4 and everything went really smooth and he is an extremely good trader! His packing was perfect, the figures were in the condition promised and he is honest, communicates often and is concerned that everything goes well on both ends. Thanks Stephen,  you are far and above one of my favorites. Look forward to the next trade with you!

Sorry I haven't chimed in sooner!

First, if a major change occurs due to an error in manufacturing (text especially) that first one is rare and becuase it goes through changes (error, sticker, printed), it becomes out of print and off the pegs quickly. Some get attention and attract enough interest to create a demand that increases the value. I think over time, these will still hold their value and probably increase, but I am not an oracle or very good with judging the market...

The most difficult variations/errors I own are...

#1-16 with background inserts
Clone Trooper - missing black paint on visor
Clone Trooper - missing dots on photo
Bloody Luke
Luminara Unduli - cloak text visible/no bronze paint on necklace
Dexter w/insert - pipe text visible
Padme (Arena) with background insert and mole
Padme Amidala (Coruscant Attack) - w/correction sticker
Super Battle Droid - with correction sticker
both R2-D2 leg variations
...

Anyway, I have quite a few. The one's I covet are the original Super Battle Droid with the error printed on the back, all Imperial Officer and Rebel Soldier head sculpts, Kit Fisto with lightsaber packaged in bubble (not in hand) and Jango or Boba Fett without the black visor paint.

As for the questions...

Luminara is worth it I think. It's a hard find and a nice piece to have. I do not collect for value, I try and collect figures I like and figures that other traders want so I can get what I want. Any of the original text variaitons are good to have because there is always going to be the collector that is out looking for these things. I had the error text Super Battle Droid and traded it and recently tried to get it from someone and they were more interested in trading POTF2 ss/lt figures than that variaiton. I also am trading my Clone w/o black visor paint for a considerable amount of good figures. It's hard to let go of, but if the price is right...

When the stickers start coming into play (i.e. 'Force Action', or 'Slashing Saber Action' it can get pretty out-of-control). My rule of thumb is if there is a change to the figure packaging (text or photo) or a change in the actual figure (or error that is reported enough to warrant a variation tag) it's worth grabbing. Some (like Han Solo with white or silver belt lever) will never really be that big a deal because it is difficult to gauge which is the more rare of the 2.

I am very interested in any images I can get as verification of the existence of any and all variations and/or errors that are not on our lists. If you find one, send it in please! I am working on starting some forum threads with resources from our checklists and those that have contributed. Thanks and good hunting!

Vintage Kenner / Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
« on: April 20, 2003, 03:05 AM »
I want to start, but finding the coins to fund coin collecting is a little tough. I know where I can get 2 loose (R2-D2 and Barada I think), but have had other priorities. While they are only $15 for the pair or so, I always have found higher prioritites.

I have just finished submitting an extensive (maybe beyond extensive) checklist of all known coins (rare, prototypes included) and it will go up with an entirely revised vintage set of checklists on this site in the near future.

And poor you, DSJ, only having 5 carded...

Hope I can say that someday. Vintage collecting is a dream, hope I can find the $$$ to fund such a paasion someday.
